I’ve been playing a Taylor 310 for 25 years and was looking for something smaller and lighter to transport. Having read a lot of reviews and listened to the videos I thought I would try the GS Mini Koa and see what all the fuzz was about. This guitar sounds amazing! The Koa gives it a depth AND sparkle that you don’t expect from a small guitar. I keep asking myself does it lack depth compared to my dreadnought, technically it does but actually I don’t miss it because the sound is so full. The volume too is quite exceptional, I tend to strum a lot with a pick and don’t mind digging in hard….. this guitar just sings under those circumstances. It get’s louder and louder without noticeably going out of tune. At the other end there is such clarity and sustain that quiet finger picking also sounds great. You can easily hear a single note melody within a chord. Are there any downsides? Well if you have big hands then the reduced neck length may feel too cramped…. For me this is actually more comfortable than a full size neck but you wouldn’t want it any smaller. In summary I’m blown away, just amazing.David
Wow… what a stunner! Opening the case for the first time was quite an experience. This is a seriously beautiful guitar with beautiful craftsmanship. As a beginner with small hands (even for a lady) I have found acoustic guitars in the past to be very uncomfortable to play, the size of the body, the width of the neck, the high action, and after struggling with a Lorenzo Flame Series for the past year I decided enough was enough, electrics aren't almost impossible to play so why should I have to struggle with acoustic? I did some research and everything was pointing me towards the Taylor GS Mini-E series. Holding this guitar in my hands for the first time felt like a revelation. It felt like Taylor had made a guitar specifically for me – wearing a strap the body fits easily under my arm and my fingers just know exactly where they're meant to go. The sound of the guitar is rich and vibrant with a bright top tone – quite a feat in a parlour size guitar. After watching reviews it seems that this is due to the Koa body. The guitar also comes with soft, well-padded case that feels like it'll protect well from bumps and bruises whilst travelling. It has some nice shoulder straps so it feels like you're wearing a large (but light!) backpack. The best thing about this guitar though is that it's such a joy to hold and play that I can't put it down; my playing ability has increased so much in the past few weeks since buying it. As a beginner I absolutely recommend this guitar as an introduction to acoustic guitars. Taylor is my dream acoustic guitar brand. And I always like the versatility and sound of a GS Mini in all versions: Mahogany, Spruce and also, Koa. Mine is Spruce 100% acoustic. It is worth to mention some details about how to extract the best sound of it: 1. The recommended string gauge is .13. Pay attention to all demos and YouTube video reviews. All of them use .13 string gauge. I recommend Elixir 16182 Phosphor Bronze Nanoweb HD Light Acoustic Strings 13-53. You can find here https://www.musicstore.de/en_DE/EUR/Elixir-16182-Phosphor-Bronze-Nanoweb-HD-Light-Acoustic-Strings-13-53/art-GIT0030955-000 2. For recording use two mics to get the best of it. See some youtube videos how to do it. 3. Increase the playability using a light strings. See the link in item 1. Pros 1. Excellent full sound. Easily mistaken for a full body western guitar because of the sound. 2. Highly portable 3. Excellent satin finish 4. Despite the size the playability is awesome with a more lighter string set 5. Despite to be not recommended to play on the sofa, it is so easy play on the couch with this guitar. Kinda made for it. 6. Comes with a well made not so soft bag, but still bag. Cons 1. Price, little bit steep 2. The back of the guitar is arched or little bit rounded. I’m sure this is by design to increase the resonance of the instrument but in some circumstances the guitar slips when playing it.

Physical condition this bass is in great condition with only some light examples of wear! there are a few super light scuffs on the top and back of the body. otherwise, there are a few light scratches here and there from everyday playing and handling, but great condition! overall, this is an extremely clean and excellent playing bass! fretwear this guitar only has some minor wear on the first few frets. plays great! action action is medium low and plays great! could use a quick tweak to your liking! electronics all electronics are original and work perfectly! case no case or gig bag included!

I have been wanting to get my own Taylor GS Mini since I first heard one, and when I saw the rosewood back and sides model, I knew I had to act. It wasn't in the budget at the time, but I was so anxious to have one that I called AMS, and man, am I glad I did! My sales associate Enrique made it SO easy for me to obtain this lovely instrument that I simply had to do it. First, the guitar itself: I've never owned a parlor guitar before, and wasn't exactly sure it would be suitable sonically, but man, the sound of this instrument just Blows.My.Mind! Every note of every string rings out as well as or better than any acoustic I've ever played, including several guitars costing three and four times as much. And the tone is simply astounding: huge,rich, bell-like clarity up and down the entire sonic spectrum, and the sustain is simply unbelievable. The setup was very much to my liking and suits my playing style perfectly, and the craftsmanship is second to none. I waited for several weeks before writing this because I wanted to play it for awhile before giving my opinion, and I love it more each and every time I pick it up. I'm not a luthier, but I am a finish carpenter with considerable woodworking experience, having worked in wood for more than forty years now, and I have yet to spot a single flaw anywhere on this guitar. Not only that, but every time I pick it up, I end up playing for much longer than I had intended, so it's good that I am retired! It's just such a joy to play that it really will become a time thief if you're not careful, but that's the kind of problem I think we all want in our gear. I own nine other guitars, mostly electrics, but this has become my go-to baby, because of its breathtaking tone and articulation. I just can't say enough about how glad I am to've made this purchase, and if you are thinking about getting one, think no more! I use this primarily as a finger picking instrument with occasional pick playing/strumming. It is such a beautiful instrument and so lovely to play. Action is perfect and the fretboard feels great (better than the other 414 special edition IMO). Plenty of volume but not over the top. Taylor guitar really shine in their ability to sustain each and every string and for them to sound distinct even when played together. This one does not disappoint in that regard. Having played nothing but a Martin spruce/mahogany dred for a number of years, I was surprised how much I like the body shape and dimensions; the guitar is perfectly balanced without the clunky feeling that you get with certain A/E guitars. The straight acoustic sound is bright, with a beautiful timbre – the plugged in sound had more of a jazzy warmth than a twangy, artificial "get a telecaster" sound. As a lefty, I had to choice between this and the same old stuff from Montana. This is definitely a unique instrument and a testament to the versatility of the Taylor line.gtrlfty
I have always loved the martin guitar and thought there was nothing better. I acquired a little money and wanted a new guitar so I went my local shop and decided to compare. After about an hour I went home so confused about the proper selection and did not purchase a guitar. I was struggling with the fact that I didn't think I would own anything but a martin. I played the taylor 414ce and fell in love with it. I went back the next day with a good friend of mine, that was a good guitar player and thought I would get his advice as he also felt like I did about the martin. Its a little by chance what you get from mex. fenders in terms of craftsmanship and details. Mine has a little dent and a little gap between neck and body but it is sturdy. Fret work is not like americans. Tone wise and playability is good. I like the look of pau ferro wood. Neck shape is comfy not like 70s baseball bat p bass more like 70s j bass. The orange color is the reason i pick this one, fender changing colors every two three years so if you have this color in mind go for it. Much much better in real than pictures. Overall, if you need a good practice/little jamming bass its a good alternative. Instead of squiers go for this. I have sire as well, if you dont like/need active preamp simple is the best. Also, this new pickups are good, have good bass and midrange not scooped like some american pickups. One final thing, I've tried couple of player series before ordering this, some of them is not well at all in build quality. So, it is a little surprise what you get, check after you buy it and then decide to keep it or not. Have fun..
Purchased the Fender Player Jazz bass. Overall great looks and sound, but some quality issues from the Fender Mexico factory (not Andertons' fault): – First bass had very clear weird uneven blemish under the varnish on the sunburst body. Not awful, but if I was in-store I would never have chosen that particular item. Returned and swapped by Andertons, no quibbles. Second bass arrived. Overall happy, sounds great, but still a few issues with quality control and design. – Control plate was missing 2 screws and was moving around – how does that get through Fender quality control? Replacement screws sent free of charge by Andertons. – Nut has not been slotted correctly – high G must have been passed through a machine and slipped, string is clearly a couple of mm too close to fretboard edge and you can see the failed first pass. Doesn't really affect playability, but is annoying and I will get it corrected at some point. Again, points to poor quality control. – Fretboard (Pau Ferro) is really thin – on the Player series, at least. Neck fret dot markers in white are half over the mid-dark fretboard, half over the light maple neck. Very hard to see in low light levels. OK, so they're just an indicator for position, but the design isn't great. So overall, the bass sounds great and Andertons service was very good. …and falls in love. Let me start by saying I actually have owned one other P-Bass. I had a 50s reissue Precision, but honestly the neck was just too thick for my liking after years of playing Jazz basses. Honestly, it felt thicker than the neck on my Yamaha 5-string. So, I picked this bass up after always dancing around getting what would be considered a more standard P-Bass. I have a 70s Jazz with a ton of modifications, I've had quite a few other brands of basses, but I wanted to see what the fuss was about. I ordered this a few weeks ago, and have been very pleasantly surprised. The action was pretty good out of the box. I adjusted it a bit, made a few tiny tweaks to the intonation, and now it's super smooth. And, on the pickups, let me say it's a great sounding bass. Pickups are clear, bass sounds great. I play through a little Ampeg Micro cabinet. Earlier this week, I bought some Flats to throw on it (because that's what you do with a P-bass, right?) and now it's quickly becoming one of my favorite instruments to jam with. It really cuts through the mix when playing in a group. I see why folks really love the sound of a precision. My Jazz still has it's place, but man, I really like the sound of this bass. The Player P is a great value for what you get. I've never owned an older MIM, but I research the heck out of pretty much any purchase I make, and it looks like Fender really stepped it up with this rendition of their MIM Precision basses. Good tone out of the box, no discernible pickup noise, good action, a beautiful neck, and a Tidepool Blue finish that just shines and shines.Dennis F

Ive owned, sold, traded, and purchased several fretless (and fretted) basses. At the time I purchased this (from Musicians Friend) I did not currently have a fretless bass. Now that I've owned and played this Tony Franklin model for several months I can honestly say its easily the finest fretless you can buy for well under $2K. If money weren't a concern, I would have undoubtably re-purchased a Pedulla MVP Buzz bass (about the sickest fretless bass ever made). I had no idea who Tony Franklin was when I bought this, but I knew I wanted a quality fretless with an ebony fretboard, no fret lines, and classic-to-professional workmanship. Before buyin this one I also looked at and played a Godin fretless (very nice), and had just traded in a Carvin LB-50 fretless (not what I needed it to be). Between the Carvin, the Godin, and this Fender Custom shop fretless,..the Fender was easily the better purchase, the better bass,..and the sweetest looking. As mentioned in reviews above, it is neck heavy,..but thats easily solved by shortening you strap (just get used to playing it higher on your body than you other bass,..its gonna be different than your main axe and you should expect that of any bass,..they are all different). The case it came with is exceptional for a stock case,..and the sunburst finish is just outstanding! I put a set of medium gauge DR Sunbeams on this, and it sounds epic. Sure, the nickel strings make minute marks on the finger board, but so what,..they leave no serious impact thats detrimental,…(and if you actually wear into the neck that badly then you're playing like a monster and its time to have your bass worked on,..consider that a badge of honor 🙂 Its the sweetest fretless for the money. The next step up is a boutique custom fretless. If you can't spend more than 2K on a fretless,..get this one. If you can afford more,..def go with a Pedulla Buzz Bass,..(Bar-none the finest fretless ever made,..but this Fender Custom is an excellent, even supreme, second choice to that).jave brown

First of all let me say that I'm 45 years old. I've been playing various musical instruments for almost my entire life. I consider myself both very knowledgeable and savvy when it comes to gear. I'm extremely picky. Especially with tone and build quality. I'm not a gear snob by any means. I just prefer not to choose low budget gear. I believe quality is still out there and you get what you pay for. I've owned / own many top brands including Gibson, PRS, Fender Custom Shop, Warwick (Germany), Dingwall, Kiesel, etc. You get the picture right? The build quality of this instrument is right up there with any of those if not better. Tone wise this thing is a monster! Fretless Monster right? The DiMarzio Jazz pickup has a really sweet sound just as it should. It has a 3-way selector switch that allows you to play the pickups in three configurations. Jazz, J + P Bass, and just P Bass. All three sound simply amazing but the middle position is the real sweet spot for this bass. The neck is a dream and fits and feels terrific in the hands. Fit and finish all looked great and there were zero cosmetic blemishes. I got the 3-color sunburst and picked out the actual serial I wanted. It's a beautiful bass and so much fun to play. The ebony fingerboard was even completely uniform with no streaking which I happen to personally like. It has a D-tuner on the E string which is nice. If you're on the fence about trying a fretless for the first time like I was please don't be. Once you have this bass in your hands you will feel at home with it just as I did. Almost like an old friend has come home. It will be a new, creative, tool, in your palette. The possibilities are endless and you will have a new and exciting way of truly expressing yourself. You do have side marker dots so you will not be totally in the dark. I'm a big fan of Blue Murder and Tony Franklin. Check out his YouTube videos some time. He truly is a Monster of the Fretless Bass. I started taking his True Fire course after buying this bass and it has helped me make the transition to fretless more easy. It's a great course and I have learned a lot from the master. You definitely will not be disappointed in this bass. At the price point it's a steal in my opinion. This is a must have for any bassist to have in their collection. Go fretless!

My only complaint is with FedEx, they delivered a day late and at 10pm. they did not walk it up tp the door they left it in the middle of a driveway I share with a neighbor and left with no notification. I just happened to hear their door slam. I opened the front door as they left. I walked out to the driveway and stepped on the package because it was so dark. I’ve had friends that play Spector basses on a professional level. When I saw the Legend at this price point I jumped at the chance. I was a little hesitant and didn’t know what to expect sound and quality wise. Honestly I was floored. The active electronics are amazingly functional. The pickups have a punchy output that make it fun to play. The setup of the bass was great right of the box. Just a little tweaking and it plays just like I want. The frets were trimmed perfectly and the overall aesthetics of the bass is magnificent. This is one of the top purchases I have made from AMS. Thank you AMS for making this possible. The only negative I would have to post is concerning the shipping packaging. The bass itself arrived perfect but the box it was packed on was flimsy and had been torn open. Otherwise this is an amazing purchase.
If you want a premium bass for a mid level price this is the one! I bought this because I play in a Pantera tribute and as we know Rex loved Spector and now I know why. This thing is beautiful solid and heavy constructed but well balanced. It feels like power in your hands. Excellent tone controls and a great feel, cannot recommend enough. This came with a reverse P pickup, like the higher end Spectors. It has really nice flame, the best I've ever seen. Curved top and back too, really adds to the look + ergonomics. The fret ends were slightly sharp, but some light sanding fixed that. The tuners are solid, really smooth and easy to tune (best out of all my guitars and basses). Also holds tune well. Nice Spector logos on each tuner. The sound is great. You really get the Spector sound, no compromises. The preamp and EQ are really good, I can dial everything in easily, and it hits the right frequency bands. It's nice and light, I really love the shape of Spectors, and the balance is spot on. I can sit this on my lap, with no hands, and it just sits there. Zero neck dive. The back of the neck looks nice, feels like marble, ultra smooth. Comfortable rounded neck profile. The string spacing is great for slap and fingerstyle (17.8mm bridge, P bass nut width). The strings are high above the body, which is perfect for slap. My Jazz bass feels claustrophobic compared to this. And the bridge… I love the quick release. No more threading strings, you just drop each string onto the bridge and done. Intonation is easy. I really can't fault this bass. Every aspect of it has surprised me, and I'll never go back!

Owned since 2019, played intermittently, always stored in case and humidity controlled. sent to the taylor factory to repair two minor finish blemishes on the top of the headstock and front bottom binding. i took a picture of both spots. the headstock repair is barely visible as you can see in the photo. the binding repair is completely invisible i took a photo of the general location but can t find exactly where it was. overall it s a beautiful guitar with a beautiful sound. i particularly like the grain of the koa back and the thick trebles it produces. i cannot justify owning such a nice guitar anymore. i want it to find a home where it will be played much, much more!

Beautifully built guitar with some nice appointments. It sounded a bit too bright / clear for me out of the box (coming from Martin tones) so I switched the strings across to a set of Ernie Ball Earthwood Phosphor Bronze and it’s improved the tone for me. The brightness is probably a factor of the Koa back and sides and I really struggled for a long time on deciding between a 914ce and the K14ce. Even when it arrived I struggled for a week or two mulling over my decision and whilst the deeper woodier tones of the rosewood would’ve probably suited me better, the builder edition appointments on the K14ce were the deciding factor. It just looks and feels superb. Sometimes I wonder was it the right decision from a tone/sound perspective but then I still have the Martins to play and Taylor’s have always been a bit less muddy / a bit more clear than a Martin. I previously purchased the U.S. version of this bass in tangerine and I loved it; except for the color. The color was more like bright metal flake orange than tangerine metallic and although the bass played great and sounded amazing I returned it. After seeing Ed Friedland (the Bass Whisperer) review both versions on YouTube I decided to try this one. Although it looks kind of plain it plays and sounds almost as good as the U.S. version for half the price. You can read lots of pros and cons online about this model and this is just another perspective, but based on my 50 years of professional guitar performance on solid bodies, hollow bodies, dreadnaughts and salon size steel strings, nylon string and acoustic and electric 12-string. Folks who pan this Taylor apparently would be disappointed that a vintage Gibson 335 doesn't sound exactly like a D-28 and a Les Paul Custom rolled into one. Anyone who researches this model HAS to know it is not a compromise concept, it seeks to take the characteristics of both acoustic and electric guitars and make them available in one instrument. For what it does, I think it does it superbly. I play with bare, short fingernails and no picks so this may influence my tonal perception but this thing through my JBL EON One sounds gorgeous, as good as any hollow jazz box I've had and better than most of them. Solos on the humbucker can get about as much sustain and crunch as a competent player would ask for. And as for playability: this thing is a dream to play. Pulloffs and hammers are effortless, the neck feels perfect with just enough fret height to let me thumb the strings without bottoming them. The hardware is well positioned for the most part with the tone and volume controls unobtrusive as I like them; I don't need hatbox knobs that are bigger than my bathroom faucets. Fit and finish are the usual Taylor standard, which is amazing for a mass produced instrument. All in all, my purchase of this T5-C1 with maple top was one of the best guitar buys I've ever made…and I've made a lot of them. This match feels like one made in heaven and I would encourage those players who are sophisticated enough to appreciate a concept that is fresh and well executed to look closely at the T5-C1 or variants of this model as they are available. Put it to work for you and I am confident that the more you use it, the more you will come to appreciate how well the design concept works in allowing you the artistic freedom to express yourself through your instrument to the fullest.son_of_idiot
This guitar has all of the sweet sounds an functions of a T5Z guitar the form of a 12 string guitar. There is little add to this review that I haven't say in my T5Z review, except that it is in a 12 string. I could play for hours with this guitar, that I would not or could not do with other 12 stings. Playing is effortless, however it is dependent upon which songs you are playing. Great for Folk songs and single performers, but not for hard rock or Reggae. As with most 12 stings, it fills the void with sound in songs. Bar cords are relatively easy as in most 12 string guitars. I reduce the rating because it does not fit into other T5Z Taylor guitar cases. Yep! You need to buy a Dedicated Taylor case, since the T5Z cases are of a slightly narrower dimension. Like wise, other accessories are also of a slightly different dimension, rendering a need to duplicate seemingly identical accessories. I loved the look of an open pore body and I had researched Michael Kelly basses and took a chance. This is a good bass and when in active mode it has a lot of volume. This is the ONLY bass out of 20 in my collection that came without a nine volt battery and out of the box did not work as a result. The tone is extremely flat and the active EQ does not really add or take away hi or low end in a noticeable fashion. There is no pick guard and the hardware is a little on the "cheap" looking side. Two of the four knobs were not turning correctly and had to be taken off and re-set . I have since bought the Michael Kelly Element 4 vintage bass and it is night and day better than the open pore. This is a "good" bass and looks nice in my collection. I have basses that cost less and sound better.
Wasn't even planning on getting this bass but went to the store and the Sterlings and Squires couldn't even come close. Really surprising find and happy I got it! It really made the squire and sterling feel like toys. There are a few blemishes but the construction is spot on and has a really tight neck pocket. Only downside I'd say is that the finish is kinda cheesy up close (I don't think it's wood grain looks way more like a dip to me) and the head stock decal could use a redesign but besides that it's great!A Badger

I ordered this bass because I was looking to emulate a particular sound (I'm in a tribute band). It's a beautiful instrument and sounds great. It stays in tune pretty well. My only minor complaint it is that it is a little unbalanced (probably because it's hollowbody), so the neck will dive if you're not supporting it with your fret hand. Other than that, I love it. On a side note, we were messing around and I got a lot of crazy feedback from it by putting it up to my amp with delay and overdrive on.D-Hook
It caught my eye hanging in my local Guitar Center in Goodlettsville, TN, which has a terrific staff btw. I asked to try it and was quite impressed with the overall build quality and set-up. I cannot fault the service I received, the guitar was set up very nicely. The guitar itself however could have been finished better. The binding around the neck is a bit rough and upon removing the coating over the scratch plate and control plate, you wouldn’t expect to find scratches. None of this affects the playing and sound of the guitar obviously, but I’m a little disappointed in the quality control from Vintage guitars.Paul M.

The bass was in near perfect condition and was delivered quickly. I had to get on line to understand the switches and their correlation to the knobs- but they are lined up in a logical manner and bottom line, i really like the bass! As a matter of fact, it has replaced my other basses as my main axe. It has a great sound that has growl when played hard and good tone all around. It has active, passive, parallel and series pick up options and more. The bass is put together well and is what i would call- 'Solid'. i am very pleased. I bought this bass for use in my project studio. I needed a bass that would cover a lot of different sounds and textural feel. I have not been disappointed. It is extraordinarily easy to play and very versatile and I think you would be hard pressed to find better build quality for the money. The G&L is leagues better than the Fenders I've played in the same price range, and much higher. Great for Studio use, or intermediate players looking to move up to a serious instrument.jacobassus
