I just got my aqua model and I’m very happy. First off, it was in tune so it was great to be able to play it right away and not go thru nightmare tuning! The fit and finish is excellent as is the sound. Both plugged and unplugged. It plays so easily that I found myself playing leads in all positions. Unlike most 12 strings of the past. I bought a Luna wabi Sabi folk in January 2022, after looking for a cheap Yamaha to keep at work. The Luna was a bit more expensive but it felt and sounded great and I liked that it had electronics and a tuner. After 3 weeks the frets grew sharp to a point where it became unplayable, slicing my index finger. I humidified and filed the frets down. Then frets 1 and 12 started to buzz. Looking down the fingerboard, I can see frets have begun to rise out of their slots. My local shop said the guitar was not worth the repair, understandable. I decided it was unplayable, so I raised the nut to use it for slide and Dobro playing but when I changed the strings, I noticed that all of the tuners had a lot of play, I tightened the ring nuts on 5 out of 6 tuners. I pulled it out of it's case this morning to see the top has cracked clean through, from the sound hole along where the top meets the fret board. It wasn't dropped or damaged and it lived in a humidified guitar room.

I own several vintage acoustics and high end guitars and I treated this guitar as I would any other instrument I own. Very poor quality that could be excused if it was a $100 guitar but it's not.Gregory Tellier

In the words of Mark Knopfler, "Loving guitars means you've got to love the cheap ones as well," and so, in that spirit, on the hunt for a cheap, fun acoustic to add to the collection, and with Musician's Friend reward points to spend, Wabi Sabi, the concept of finding beauty in imperfection just made this kinda irresistible. The whole point of this guitar I guess is that the solid spruce top is classified as "B-stock" thus making a solid top acoustic available in a price range where laminated tops are far and away the norm. But why are these solid spruce tops regarded as lesser? Apparently because, well, cosmetic imperfections. In other words the grain is irregularly spaced, and there are a couple of wavy, knotty patterns that have no impact on the guitar's sonic quality. But it's a solid spruce top nonetheless. Mahogany neck, very smooth and has a nice feel. Laminated mahogany sides and back. The fit and finish are actually very good. Satin finish, a bone nut. Nothing earth-shattering, but all very attractive and, best of all, straight out of the box, this guitar required very little effort to get dialed in. The intonation was spot on across the fret board, and the action was lovely, 2mm on the low E side and about 1.5mm on the high E side. Unlike many acoustics at this price point, playability is a non-issue. It's a joy to play. Tone-wise, this is basically a folk or orchestra model, and so it's simply not designed to project like a dreadnaught, but what it does offer is very good. I would describe its tone as warm, woody, with a rather mid-rangey voice, definitely not boomy at all on the low end, nor brash or harsh on the treble end, but nicely articulated and very well balanced across the fingerboard. The lone notable flaw was a slightly high 4th fret which caused some very minor buzzing at about four different touch points on the neck. Depending on your comfort level with such things as dressing a fret, this is either a big deal or not. For me, it's not a huge issue, but I buy inexpensive guitars with the idea that they will require at least some tweaking, and for me at least, this one required much less than most. I have only tested out the electronics briefly but was able to dial in very musical, highly usable tones with little effort through a cheap acoustic DI and amp with a touch of reverb. Overall, this guitar feels like a keeper. It's a player. It sounds good. The setup was far better than expected, it required very little effort to optimize and, unlike many similarly-priced guitars, it holds tune very nicely. I can't really say anything bad about this guitar.David

First of all, the Wabi Sabi Grand Concert Acoustic Electric Guitar is a cutaway. The photos on the Musician's Friend page shows the Wabi Sabi dreadnought (I have uploaded a photo of the guitar I received from MF and perhaps they will post the proper photos after reading this). The design around the sound hole, the color, neck and headstock are all the same as the dreadnought. That being said, this guitar exceeded my expectations right out of the box. It is solid, maybe a bit heavier than similar guitars in this size. Also, I would not know that the top is made from "B-grade" wood- the finish is tip-top and it feels good in hands. Appearances aside, this guitar plays comfortably and sounds as good or better than most solid tops I have played. The spruce is perhaps a bit brighter than my past acoustics (usually mahogany-topped) but it handles the low end like a dreadnought and strums with a full, rich sound. The neck is fast and smooth, the tuners are quality and the action, on arrival, was low without any detectable fret buzz. Plugged in, the guitar sounded balanced but overloaded my Behringer practice amp unless I kept the pre-amp leveIs lower than what I was used to (the equalizer on the preamp offers 4 level controls and volume). Perhaps pre-amp volume should be kept lower than similar acoustic-electrics but I will defer that one to more experienced opinions. In conclusion, this guitar is a steal for money and I look forward to practicing and playing out with it at an open mic.Andyboy Georgia

Hi I ordered the guitar and was told about the long delay and found that really honest and helpful, so many people nowadays don't mention the delay in advance then spend their time making excuses. When I reicieved the guitar I was very impressed, the action is perfect and I had spent lots of time worrying that I may find the action on a 12 string too much. It plays just as well as my six string acoustic and that's the best acoustic I've ever played, which is why I bought it. Overall I'm really impressed with the quality of the guitar and the service I received. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend either Richards Guitars or Godin. GrahamGraham H.

This was my 1st purchase from Richard and I am pretty sure it won’t be my last, whilst I am very much a beginner at guitar, returning after 20 years I have developed a habit for buying guitars that are somewhat inspirational to me, (well apart from my tele modern player, not my wisest purchase). I have always loved the sound of a 12 string acoustic, but was put off by the general implication they are not a good idea for beginners, however I came across a couple of YouTube reviews for the Godin A12, which suggested otherwise, one of which was Richards. I spoke with Richard fairly late one evening to enquire about stock via his live chat and he was still online which was surprising. The guitar was in stock and the order placed, each step of the process from order thru to workshop allocation, setup, testing and finally dispatch, were updated via email and on the website, the whole process took 10 days from ordering to my door step. Initial impressions were good, the guitar in its gig bag was very well packaged and arrived in perfect condition, after a quick tune up, the sound was amazing, the action is nice and low and it is considerably easier to play than I was expecting, in fact it only highlights how poor the initial setup on my tele was. Personally I have a long way to go but I definitely have an instrument that inspires me to pick it up anytime I have a few minutes to spare. If you are ever in need of a guitar and Richard stocks it then I would highly recommend Richard over some other online providers, you may not get it next day, but the wait is very much worth it. I received my Godin A6 a couple of weeks ago and I must say I am very impressed, not only with the guitar, but also the service from Richards Guitars. It arrived very well packed and ahead of the projected time. It's a little early to give a practical review of the guitar but suffice to say it's looking very promising, and will probably replace my Martin 000-28 for a lot of my gigs, especially when I'm playing in the full band. These tend to be longer than my solo gigs and a tad more frantic. One of the reasons I went for the A6 is because I have a bit of rheumatism in my thumbs and the narrower neck on the A6 helps a lot without sacrificing an acoustic guitar feel and sound. At the moment I'm experimenting with different strings. The guitar came with nickel wound but I thought I'd try some phosphor bronze which is more in keeping with my acoustics. The Jury is still out! I can certainly recommend Richards Guitars, their attention to detail and concerns over customer satisfaction are excellent.Brad B.

I usually wait awhile if I am going to review something and after buying selling and trading over 50 guitars over a lifetime I am well over the "Newest Toy" syndrome but I absolutely love this guitar way more than I ever expected I will. I love everything about it so far, from the important stuff like tone and playability to the superficial stuff like it's cool vintage cream paint job. I have yet to restring the guitar and my only concern is durability. I have one other Danelectro guitar that I have owned for close to a year and have had no issues with. Other than that I have no experience with Danelectro guitars. I should note that there is nothing about either guitar that leads me to suspect poor quality. The 12 string came with a nice straight neck and immaculate finish. It was very playable right out of the box. I should also note that this is my first 12 string electric guitar. I am primarily an acoustic guy and have owned several 12 string acoustics over my lifetime. I understand the pressure those strings put on a guitar's neck which is why I wonder how well this will hold up in the future. Providing it does it feels like a steal at this price. Of all guitars I have owned I have never had one turn so many heads when I went out shopping for a case. It's a shame Danelectro won't make or commission cases for their guitars. If it matched the aesthetics of their instruments they would probably be a hit as well.Patrick

The best thing about this guitar is how nicely and easily it plays. It seems to sing out and chime from any note that you effortlessly put your finger on! You also cannot beat the play-ability of this neck with most any guitar at this price level! These are about the lowest priced guitars that you can buy, while still having a sentimental nostalgia of very high-profile guitarists enjoying them, too! Jimmy Page on Kashmir! The pick ups are decent and sound balanced between neck and bridge positions. This guitar is a joy to play, I look forward to picking up this guitar and playing every night! I got the Blood Red model, which feels much more solid than the b/w classic version that I got earlier. The b/w classic uses inch wide, white tape as trim, which gives me the impression of being less durable than the superior finish of the Blood Red version!Rev316

I spent over two years shopping for an electric 12-string guitar. I own many 6-string acoustic and electric guitars, plus a very high-end 12-string acoustic, but I've always wanted a high-end 12-string electric too. I played many of the best brands, but I just could not justify the cost of some of these 12-string electrics… yes, they played great, but the cost was insane, and I just didn't believe they were worth it. Danelectro recently upgraded their 12-sting electric guitar, and for the price, I could not resist any longer. I figured if it was no good, then no worries – since I spent such little money on it. However, when I received it today, I was COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY! I actually think that Danelectro is giving these guitars away for what I paid for it! Something almost doesn't make sense…. Anyway, I cannot put this thing down. It sounds great (dare I say as good, or perhaps better than the "R's" I tried out?). Not to put down "R", since I already own a 1990 360, but this Danelectro is a KEEPER! At a fraction of the cost, I have a really professional sounding and playing 12-string electric! I'm in my late 50's and have played for decades using many, many great guitars, but today is a day I'll never forget, when I unboxed this incredible guitar and played it right out of the box for hours of complete and total joy. The guitar performs and works as advertised. It's not a bad guitar by any means but it's a guitar that lives way past it's price range either. If you want a really nice D'ANGELICO acoustic then get something from the Excel line. But this is bottom of the premier line. This does the job for a early guitar, the neck is easy to play with low action to match. Put some warm strings on it. I recommend an 85/15 string and let it warm up and break in. It's a basic acoustic electric. It does what it says it will do. Nothing more or nothing less. I got it on an overstock sale but I'd buy it again at full price but maybe not the buttercream. The black or natural wood finish look the best. The buttercream is like they wanted the color of spruce with no grain. It's different for sure. If you're wanting something really nice save your money. If you want a decent backup not starter guitar this should fit the bill. My four star rating is with the full asking price in mind. If you get it on sale it's five star for the price.Nick

Neck is still exactly where I set it and the whole guitar feels nicely solid. The big surprise is that this thing sounds FANTASTIC through a PA. It's balanced, it's dynamic, it has none of the harsh quackiness you usually get with low end piezo systems. You can hit it HARD without overdriving the pre. It can get nice and loud without feeding back and the onboard tuner is super handy. The first time I played it in public I was basically mobbed by other guitarists wanting to know where I got it. And this isn't even their high end pickup system. Remarkable.Stu

I was needing a smaller guitar w/ electronics for small venues, not needing to invest a bunch of money and after reading decent reviews I said "why not?". After opening the box things got off to a rocky start – – 1st string was broken, and also noticed the neck was really bowed from a loose truss rod, but since I do my own setups on new guitars these was fairly easy to remedy. So was the excessively dry fingerboard and bridge, which I rubbed with 0000 steel wool and lemon oil. But, two of the faux mother-of-pearl position markers were sticking up on one end (loose) and that got me to thinking maybe this was a bad idea. I almost boxed it up and sent it back, but since it was so nice otherwise I decided to super glue them back and overlook it. Otherwise, a beauty of a guitar, and after it was all set up this thing really sang. Unplugged, it's fairly unimpressive, but with a decent tone and plenty of harmonics. The fingerboard turned out to play wonderfully, low nice action with smooth frets and I love the thin profile and fairly narrow width of the neck, the shining point of this guitar. Tuners were OK, and the BONE saddle and nut were fine after I lowered the action a bit. The sound of this guitar is amazing plugged in, and the D'Angelico branded electronics are outstanding. Plugged in it sounds equal to anything I've ever heard, and I heard and played a few in my 60 years of performing. Mine does not have a phase switch as is listed, so take note of that one point. The really great thing that I love about the electronics – – the input jack & battery are on the rear bottom side instead of through the normal end pin jack, a major convenience that is not listed, so this makes up for any other minor cons of the guitar. First the good. Neck is straight, properly fitted, and I really like a set radius as opposed to compound. The D profile feels "right" to me. Set bridge (screws vs pivot) is also a huge plus. Trem bar is a flat profile, where its closer to the body, instead of 2 inches too far out. The bad. Tuning machines are slotted too high, and a little wonky/loose. Fret ends are smooth , but not the cut, if that makes sense. So when you run your fretting hand up or down it'll catch on the burr from not smoothing out the neck side(s). The trem springs are way too loose/springy for an off the shelf guitar. Annnd it's really noisy. I expected some hum from vintage pickups but good god. This is something I'll have to deal with straight away. The gnarly. The sound and playability is simply ok out of the box. Not near enough "quack" for what its designed for. Namely doing Hendrix tunes. Barely there, really. All in all. I kinda knew it was going to take around 3-500 to get it where I wanted it. But it is a great starting point for hot-rodding/customization purposes. The headstock does take some getting used to!Bob

Overall: This guitar is modeled after the "Jimi at Woodstock" white Strat, and is a great looking guitar that captures that vibe. But, I also needed something I could gig with. The reverse headstock is great because the longer wound strings have a little more tension, and the shorter G,B, and highE have less tension for great, smooth bends. The C shaped neck isn't super fat, but very comfortable. It gets a lot of attention in a live setting. I actually took mine to Bethel NY and stood on the original Woodstock field, and played "The Star Spangled Banner" on the spot of the original stage with a little battery powered amp. Talk about Bucket List things to do. 😉 A great guitar with vintage tone, easy playability, trem holds tune surprisingly well, not too heavy, and captures that 1969 vibe while being a true gig-worthy guitar. If you like beefy straight maple necks, bright sounding ash bodies, and hardware that stays in tune for days – you should consider this guitar. This is a no-nonsense replica of a 50's strat that is not distressed to look old. It's exactly as you would have purchased it in 1956. Sometimes a design reaches its peak early on and later modifications only detract from the original. The boat neck carve pushes into my big hand but doesn't inhibit speed or thumbing the low e string. That translates into comfort and easy string bending. The six screw bridge looks funky but contributes to the fact this guitar just won't go out of tune. The stock electronics are the only thing I'd consider changing. It has a three-way switch (although a five-way is provided), and the pickups, although excellent, are low output. If I put in some vintage hot style pickups and a five-way switch, I think it will rival my master-built strat. This is a great bang for the buck axe.fstann1014

My wife thought the Inca silver guitar was beautiful. I thought it was very unique looking and assumed that since it was made in Japan, it would be very high quality. The Gotoh tuners are incredibly difficult to turn. Hopefully this is an anomaly. I could try to loosen them but I expect a guitar like this to need nothing from the start. Also the guitar would not hold tune and yes, the strings were stretched. The tremelo bar requires an allen wrench (provided) to install and remove. Although I'm no guitar tech, it looked as if the two fulcrum screws were not tightened enough. Regardless, even when not using the tremelo, just the heel of my hand resting on the bridge would make the guitar squirrelly. This was very frustrating. The low E string had a buzz on the lower few frets and I broke the high E string my 2nd day of playing it. I've gone years without breaking a string on other guitars and I just do whole step bends, nothing more. The pickups sounded fine, the TBX tone control is not something I claim to understand, but it sounds ok. The guitar is not very versatile – kind of a one trick pony good for cranked up crunch guitar, which I was ok with. The 12" radius and jumbo frets? Not very comfortable IMHO. Kind of a tiring guitar to play. I wanted to like this guitar, but again, I refuse to start out with it needing work so it 's going back and the days of me assuming that Japanese quality, or at least quality control, are over.Kelly G.

I was in the market for a Fender guitar so as I browsed I saw a beautiful Telecaster that I really liked but it didn't have a whammy bar so I continued to browse, then I saw this beautiful Stratocaster and it was love at first sight. Plus it plays and sounds great. I'm loving it! 👍🏻Clarence

This is a monster of a guitar! You get so much for your money! First off, the feel of this guitar rivals American build quality. The neck has that rolled edge feel to it with more of a satin back. The jumbo frets feel absolutely perfect. If you had told me that this was made in the US, I certainly would believe it based on the feel and quality of construction. The features are so cool on this guitar! While it has two humbuckers, the coil split turns both of them into single coils. Normally, split coil humbuckers do not sound like single coils, but both of these pickups are so good. The split neck pickup has that woody, full tone to it, just like a good quality single coil. The humbuckers have a good throaty feel to them, they are great for rock tones, but they have a vocal quality to them that gives them a really great character even when they are clean. This TBX tone control is an amazing addition and is what makes this guitar so crazy versatile. It has a notch that lets you know it is a halfway. This is like using a regular 250k tone pot. It sounds great with both the humbuckers and the split coils. But, when you take the tone to '10', it enhances both treble and bass by engaging a 1000k pot. It gives a higher gain, somewhat scooped tone. This is great for rock, blues, grunge etc. Just an amazing tone to me! To sum up the tone, this guitar sounds amazing playing high gain rock as well as playing John Mayer licks. It is seriously that versatile. I have never played a guitar that can cover so much tonal territory. The other appointments are absolutely top notch. This guitar has a bone nut, graph tech type saddles, and super high quality gotoh tuners. The crazy thing about this guitar is that I feel that I have just purchased two high quality guitars for a price that is less than one american strat. Gorgeous clean single coil tones, AND heavy, thick humbucker tones all in one unit. I can't recommend this guitar highly enough!Mike

You got it right. There's a mural just off downtown Tulsa featuring prominent black musicians including Hendrix but they totally missed it. The Hendrix image captured him very well except that he's shown playing right-handed Strat right-handed. If you're going to put something that well-known out there, it better be right ! ! ! Just saying, as an artist, a player, AND a Hendrix fan . . .Scantman
