I am a guitar player and wanted to learn guitar bass; this bass is perfect for transitioning from guitar; it look really good and looks like a more expensive bass; considering that is a short scale bass the sound is really good, love it so far; time will tell but so far I am really happy with this item and would recommend it to anyone.
Really pleased with the purchase and the service. I bought a short scale bass as I am more used to a six string guitar and the reviews were helpful and the product description accurate. Really good value for money and a great sounding guitar even through a small amp. Delivery was from Germany and I was anxious about additional Brexit charges but I was kept informed throughout and no import charges came my way. Very pleased and enjoying my purchase!
This is my first bass, I'm just learning and have nothing to compare it to, but I could not be happier with it. I wanted to learn bass for some time and initially considered Yamaha TRBX174 and Ibanez GSR200. Then I found out that full scale basses can be hard to fret since with 34" scale length fret spacing is quite long, and there are short scale basses that don't have this problem, making them easier to learn. Ibanez GSRM29 was my first choice. I also considered Fender Squier Mini Precision (but it only has one pickup while Ibanez has two) and Cort Action Junior (also just one pickup and scale is 30" instead of 28.6" on Ibanez and Squier), but ultimately settled for Ibanez.

What a wonderful instrument! I have had this guitar for a few weeks now and been addicted to playing it. This guitar plays like something in the $350-$500 range. The build quality is really good. I do find that the 3 way pick up selector is a little wobbly but it hasn't been an issue for me so far. The Tone/Volume pots have a smooth action and they look nice to boot. The neck is super comfortable and a joy to play. The pickups sound awesome. I bought the Baltic Metal Blue version and it was a little darker in person than the images show so keep that in mind if you are looking at that specific model. Overall I really don't have any major complaints with this guitar. For $199.99 you can't beat it. This would make an excellent first guitar if you are learning, which is what I did. The thin neck will make learning easier as well.
Overall: First impression:Out of the box, this thing is downright beautiful. The Candy Apple Red just shines in the light without a flaw on it. In my personal opinion, it's the only one that the Tortoise Shell pickguard really works on and that's why I picked the color. Not disappointed. The Pao Ferro fretboard is gorgeous.I had the same Elite pickups in an old GAX 70 that got destroyed and the great sound out of them didn't catch me off guard, but the quality of the tuners did. They're smooth, just tight enough, and not catchy or jumpy at all. I actually get to keep a stock set for a while. I learned how to tie a "locking knot", so no need to replace them.The switches and knobs feel good, too. Nice and clicky switch, and smooth turns from the pots. The balance and feel are extremely nice, and the neck profile is just butter.I can't really say a bad thing about this guitar as it sits right out of the box, and then when I remember that it was only $199 it just blows my mind. This will go up on stage with me if I ever get up there again, no doubt.P.S. – We love you, zZounds!Robert

He must have bought from someone else or Ibanez just isn't with it anymore but it would have been nice to have any kind of accessory, even a thank you card. Did I say it was beautiful guitar though! Also it doesn't stay in tune for s***. But it is really pretty.

This is my second Ibanez. I liked my first one so much so I thought lets try another one. My first one was a SA Series, a little more expensive with a few more refined features but, this AX120 for a lower priced model is a very nice guitar. It needed a litlle setup, all the usual stuff that is necessary to make an instrument playable up to my standards but, I also enjoy doing all these things to achieve the final result of a well playing guitar. Only reason I didn't give 5 stars was the fret ends. Several were sharp and, could not be left alone. I have all the tools necessary to fix this problem and, in less than an hour the neck and, fret ends were smooth as glass. I have found that in lower end guitars that a lot of attention is not paid to this issue, I guess that's why they are not priced high but, I will say I have found more expensive guitars with this issue also. Overall appearance of the guitar is excellent and, all the electronics function perfectly and, the sound for 2 humbuckers are comparable with any other guitar with 2 humbuckers. I bought mine on sale so it was even sweeter to get a new guitar at a sale price. This one is a the light blue finish but, this pic really doesn't show it properly, much lighter than the picture. It somewhat has the feel and, appearance of an SG. It is a little neck heavy but, definately not a neck diver. For my second Ibanez I am very pleased and, would definately recommend this guitar to anyone.terrygh

These are great guitars. I have one in each color (RFR, PN, and DY). Very fast neck, very easy to play once it's set up to my preference. Tremolo works great. I've had Ibanez RG560, 570, and 550's before back in the 90's and the Edge bridge is the best on the market, and I'm a longtime Floyd Rose user. Edge is super stable and stays in tune great. Finish is perfect, no issues. Neck is very stable (I live in the south where the humidity is bad in the summer). I used the RFR and PN at an outside show last month and they performed flawlessly. The only weak spot in these guitars is the pickups, they are not my tonal preference so I changed them out on all my 550's. Other than that, you can't get a better guitar for the price. I've owned an original black '87 since'89 and never have stopped loving it. If it's possible, I love my new 2019 RG even more. Why? Two things – I really wanted it in yellow back in the day, but found that fantastic black one and traded a guitar for it. So when Ibanez started making these again (in Japan!), I jumped all over it and got my yellow RG550 finally! I also love the neck. Originals weren't glossy per say, but they were indeed a shiny finished neck. These Super Wizard necks are the stuff! Satin finish and extremely strong 5 piece necks with the volute which makes me feel better about the strength of the neck. Superb looking, playing, and sounding guitar. I dig the stock pickups. They're incredibly versatile. Warm cleans will blow you away,especially in the 2 and 4 pickup setting.AustinPaul
Sound: The stock pickups sound great especially with high gain. Nice crunch and break up. Features: For me the reason that I bought this model is that it is the least expensive way to get a real Edge tremolo. I can do subtle things with the Edge that I can’t do on an Original Floyd Rose. The bar is easier to position and it stays where ever you put it. As long as the torsion bushings on the bar aren’t worn out, the pop in bar is neither too tight or too sloppy. Value: This guitar is worth every penny. Manufacturer Support: I did not use Ibanez customer service and I did order half a dozen sets of torsion bushings, but had to order them from different places. The Wow Factor: I love the color of this one, Desert Sun Yellow. Overall: In the last 2 months I’ve bought 5 different Ibanez guitars, both lower and higher price. I must say that this guitar is the most bang for the buck out of any of my 21 guitars that I own.Got more than 200 bucks off on mine as it was sold as a slight blemish. When the guitar arrived, I noticed it did have a hairline crack in the paint on the bass side at the neck pocket. That was the only flaw I could find and it probably would have happened anyway if I would have got a “new” one.This is the shreddiest guitar that I have. The only thing that I had to address is that the 6th fret was a little proud. Other than that the fret job was good. All the frets were shiny and smooth and no fret sprout.This is the guitar that is at the price point where if you spend more money, you aren’t going to get much better. Overall: I bought this brand new from zZ! It came quite swiftly. It was packaged good and no damage was observed! The guitar was not ready to play right out of the box. I had to adjust the bridge and the truss rod. Once I changed the strings, and got the guitar set up…I was really surprised how good it actually plays! The neck is one of the best feeling necks that I have ever played on! It is slim and fast. The finish on this guitar is really nice! I got the red sunburst. It's a poly finish and very pretty! The craftsmanship is really good for a mid priced guitar. The hardware is really nice and quite durable! I like the fixed bridge. The tuners are really good and it stays in tune well! The electronics are good. Decent Pots and knobs! I was surprised how good the pickups sound! I use a Blackstar HT40 Club amp, and this guitar sounds great through it. The guitar has a five way switch that allows for humbucking and coil tap sounds! The tonal options are very versatile. You should be able to use this guitar for Any genre you want to play! I really am pleased with this guitar! It looks great, plays awesome, and is very versatile. I wouldn't hesitate to take it on the road as my main guitar…it's that sweet. Overall: Impressive build quality, could not find any flaws. Pearl Black Fade finish is really cool and unique. The thin neck and jumbo frets are comfortable and fast playing. Tuners are basic but they seem pretty solid. The 5-way switch is an awesome feature for this price point, and allows you to get a wide variety of tones. As expected, the ceramic humbucker pickups do very well with high-gain stuff like hard rock and metal. The clean tones aren't the warmest or the most inspiring, but they get the job done. One thing I will say is that the sustain is fantastic…likely due the mahogany body and string-thru bridge. My only real complaint is that the factory setup wasn't very good. After getting a good setup, its been playing great. Overall, I'd say this is a great buy for the price.
Right out of the box this guitar was setup and ready to shred. I love the Wizard III neck and the Pearl Black Fade Metallic looks so good. I've been an Ibanez player since 1999 and played many models. The RG421 is up there with the best of them. The Quantum pickups are excellent, so no need of changing them. I own many RGs and this one has become my go to guitar for any style of music. I can't put it down. Well worth the price. What a wonderful instrument! I have had this guitar for a few weeks now and been addicted to playing it. This guitar plays like something in the $350-$500 range. The build quality is really good. I do find that the 3 way pick up selector is a little wobbly but it hasn't been an issue for me so far. The Tone/Volume pots have a smooth action and they look nice to boot. The neck is super comfortable and a joy to play. The pickups sound awesome. I bought the Baltic Metal Blue version and it was a little darker in person than the images show so keep that in mind if you are looking at that specific model. Overall I really don't have any major complaints with this guitar. For $199.99 you can't beat it. This would make an excellent first guitar if you are learning, which is what I did. The thin neck will make learning easier as well.
Overall: First impression:Out of the box, this thing is downright beautiful. The Candy Apple Red just shines in the light without a flaw on it. In my personal opinion, it's the only one that the Tortoise Shell pickguard really works on and that's why I picked the color. Not disappointed. The Pao Ferro fretboard is gorgeous.I had the same Elite pickups in an old GAX 70 that got destroyed and the great sound out of them didn't catch me off guard, but the quality of the tuners did. They're smooth, just tight enough, and not catchy or jumpy at all. I actually get to keep a stock set for a while. I learned how to tie a "locking knot", so no need to replace them.The switches and knobs feel good, too. Nice and clicky switch, and smooth turns from the pots. The balance and feel are extremely nice, and the neck profile is just butter.I can't really say a bad thing about this guitar as it sits right out of the box, and then when I remember that it was only $199 it just blows my mind. Overall: My first electric guitar so not much to compare it to but I feel like it's heavy. But it's so pretty :-)! Also the frets are a bit Sharp on the outsides this parts where the finish doesn't completely cover the surface. A big reason why I got an Ibanez was because of an ex-boyfriend getting one some years back and he was in love with it. A big part of that was because of the awesome sweatshirt and three picks that came with it. He must have bought from someone else or Ibanez just isn't with it anymore but it would have been nice to have any kind of accessory, even a thank you card. Did I say it was beautiful guitar though! Also it doesn't stay in tune for s***. But it is really pretty.

It's an Ibanez. I am a long time Ibanez fan. Even when they started the Artcore series. I own for PRS CU24's; American Fender Strat Deluxe and Tele; Les Paul elegant and Explorer. Except when I'm playing with our group I'm usually on one of my Ibanez. If they are lower end units like this I expect to change the electronics, nut and tuners. I did the tuners and had planned on installing Seth Lovers. Mean while I put some A4 magnets in the pickups and… NO SETH LOVERS! I love the tone, the responsiveness/sensitivity. See can be smooth as silk with the volume back or nice and crunchy @ 10. Pinch harmonics reach out and grab you in a nice way. Other than the tuning pegs, nut and strap locks she'll stay this way for at least a while. I got her for the color (I'm not into green guitars or fade finishes but she caught my eye for some reason) and what a friend "the Pickle" has become.Mondron
If you want a good looking semi-hollow body guitar that plays and sounds OK, this is probably the best value for money guitar out there. You still get what you pay for, but i think Ibanez has found a good balance in that regard. Craftsmanship : It looks amazing and sounds great for such a cheap guitar. Of course there are some features that could be better, but none of these really affect the looks, playability or sound of the guitar. Sound : the pickups are a little hot and punchy for me, but for a pair of cheap pickups they sound pretty good. They give plenty of output for a good fuzzy sound but also sound reasonably good clean. This guitar can handle a solid rock sound and a decent clean sound as well. A little bright maybe, but you have the individual tone controls to remedy that if you wanted to. Plenty of sustain too. Neck : If you're coming from a Fender electric guitar it could take a little getting used to the smaller scale length, the bigger radius of the fretboard and the smaller string spacing. But nothing dramatic. I would think this is the perfect beginner guitar for those reasons. The neck profile feels good to me. All in all a great guitar for the money.
This is an extremely nice guitar, especially for the price. Great action, set-up, and play-ability straight out the box. Humbucker pickups are nice and warm, giving a nice "dark" tone to the guitar (strong bass and mid-tones) to my ears. Good variation of range of tone from the bridge and neck pickups and so is quite versatile. Lovely overtones/ harmonics going through a Blues Driver into an Orange Micro Terror — you can rock with this! — and the guitar combined well with a Roland Jazz Chorus 22 cancelling out some of the brightness of this amp. Quality of components and finish is very good. It's also a light guitar in terms of weight, so it's a practical instrument to play on stage, especially if you have a long gig — and are starting to get on a bit, like me. Of course, it's green, which might put people off, I guess… Then again, it's very eye catching and people won't miss it on stage! In summary, a great guitar at a great price that provides a different blues or jazz tone in addition to your other instruments.Damian F.

This guitar is a great value for me, here's what I like; Looks great (and headstock is beautiful) 24 fret (dot inlays, didn't want shark) Upper fret access couldn't be better. Tremolo bar Really dark fretboard (not ebony of course, but super nice) Dot inlays and side inlays are BRIGHT white, easy for me to see. Fingers slide up and down the fretboard with ease, which is not true of some of my other guitars, fingers tend to hang up on some, I could not ask for better frets. Cons/what I don't like: Set up was INCREDIBLY HORRIBLE, really omg, I don't know who was responsible, vendor/ibanez, hard to say, but the neck was BOWED like 1/8th of an inch or so , I mean ackk!! I thought I would need to send it back. The allen key that came with was a sloppy fit, too loose which could have stripped out the tension rod, so I found a tighter one in my tool bin, cranked the neck to about flat, then , NO MORE problems. The pickups seem to be muddy, definition in chording seems weak, single note lead playing is perfect, it's just 'chording' , my other guitars seem to have better clarity for chording, I haven't swapped out the pups yet, I have a set of SD Sat Night Specials, ready to try. I say seems, because, since I haven't chgd' pups yet, I don't know for sure the source/why it feels muddy. This is the only neg thing I would say about the guitar. I have some name brand guitars, and have owned hundreds, this is my main guitar right now, I love it !! Great value.riverstrat
i have a gretch i paid $1100 for and this $199 ibanez plays and sounds better ..it playes as easy as my prs. i am really shocked at how fast the fret board is.i really cant say enough good things about it. so please dont be afraid to take a chance on a $199 guitar from AMS.shipping was fastive been playing for 30+ yrs and now this is my favorite. thank you AMS will be shopping with you from now on …no more guitar center.thanks again tom zimmerman in ct
These guitars do not come from Ibanez very well setup,but after i did a proper setup on this guitar wow it sounds and plays great. The finish on this guitar is much better than i expected. It has a little smaller body than i am used to but it is a full 24 fret. Sound: The stock pickups sound great especially with high gain. Nice crunch and break up. Features: For me the reason that I bought this model is that it is the least expensive way to get a real Edge tremolo. I can do subtle things with the Edge that I can’t do on an Original Floyd Rose. The bar is easier to position and it stays where ever you put it. As long as the torsion bushings on the bar aren’t worn out, the pop in bar is neither too tight or too sloppy. Value: This guitar is worth every penny. Manufacturer Support: I did not use Ibanez customer service and I did order half a dozen sets of torsion bushings, but had to order them from different places. The Wow Factor: I love the color of this one, Desert Sun Yellow. Overall: In the last 2 months I’ve bought 5 different Ibanez guitars, both lower and higher price. I must say that this guitar is the most bang for the buck out of any of my 21 guitars that I own.Got more than 200 bucks off on mine as it was sold as a slight blemish. When the guitar arrived, I noticed it did have a hairline crack in the paint on the bass side at the neck pocket. That was the only flaw I could find and it probably would have happened anyway if I would have got a “new” one.This is the shreddiest guitar that I have. The only thing that I had to address is that the 6th fret was a little proud. Other than that the fret job was good. All the frets were shiny and smooth and no fret sprout.This is the guitar that is at the price point where if you spend more money, you aren’t going to get much better. Overall: This guitar was a total impulse buy and I’m so glad I bought it! It’s easily worth twice the price of it. Can’t get too many mid tier guitars that are neck thru with decent pickups and a 5-way switch that has a fast and slim neck at this price. I mostly play baritone 6 strings and 7 strings but I needed a 25.5” scale for drop C and this is perfect for it with 10-54 strings. I did upgrade the nut with a Graphtech tusq nut and Hipshot locking tuners with knurled tuner buttons and looks even more badass while staying in perfect tune! I have an Ibanez rgib6 Iron Label 28” baritone and this is up there with that as far as quality and playability. The stock pickups aren’t bad at all and definitely surprised me cuz that’s usually the first thing I’ll change in an inexpensive guitar. As you can see by the other reviews people say it’s a great guitar and they’re not lying so if you’re on the fence about getting it then go for it! You won’t be disappointed at all and if for some reason you are then zZounds has a return policy within like 30-45 days so you won’t be stuck with a guitar you don’t love.Josh
Overall: I have been playing the epiphone les paul std for two and half years now,and started looking at semi hollows around five months ago! I did some research looked at reviews and then bought the am93 ays almost four months ago,and just love it! The body is bigger and its lighter then the les paul ,it rests real nice on the lap no strap is neaded.Pickups and tunners excellent !! I would say the neck shape is a (c ) standard! Not thin like a jackson or wizard 3 neck! With the string action low feels and plays very nice!! Flawless machine ! No sharp frets,no freting out, all notes are clear, fret boards nice and dark no gaps around the block inlays ! All smooth sealed and even. Amazing finish. Thanks to everyone at zZounds ! There is plenty to like about this guitar, and I got it for the features I was looking for: locking tremelo, 24 frets, fast neck, 5 way pickup selector, and nice looks. My first impressions of the guitar was slight disappointment with how sloppy Ibanez was. The tops and bottoms of the frets needed to be beveled as they were pretty sharp, there was a noticeable nick on the fretboard, and there was a black smudge on the back of the neck. None of those was a huge deal. The main two issues I have with the guitar are that the middle pickup, the single coil, has such low output that the middle three positions are much quieter than the neck or bridge pickups alone. I do like the tone of the single coil in conjunction with the humbuckers, but those positions are somewhat useless considering how quiet they are, and I have ordered a humbucker to replace it. The single coil alone (middle position) has too much noise AND is too quiet. Not a big deal to replace a pickup, but why they are selling it this way, I'm not sure. The second issue is the volume control. Instead of a gradual swell, there is a sharp dropoff in volume at one point in the rotation of the dial, making it pretty much useless other than having it full on or all the way off. I am not sure if that is fixable, but if it is, I'll need to have that done as well. All that said, if the guitar had not arrived in such sloppy condition and the two problems were resolved, I'd give this guitar 5 stars.hickory spork

The base Ibanez Floyd Rose system is fiddley but, after learning how to adjust/tune quickly becomes appreciated for holding tune no matter the severity of attacks you use with the tremolo. The Wizard(ll or lll ?) You would need to go to custom built to exceed the easy play and comfortable frets you will find on and RG. This recent RG450 I upgraded to equal the higher priced models by adding the De Marzio Tone Zone (B), Air Norton (N). And instead of going with the True Velvet. Added the Seymour Duncan Vintage Hot Stack for the middle position and added better electrics to even out the upgrades.. End result; This guitar plays and sound equal to guitars costing over $1,000.00!! Good bones! Yes this can be played well and many will find happiness with this as stock., and, will perform well against the competition dollar for dollar!ikeus
I used to own an '89 Ibanez VBK JEM that I regrettably sold to buy a gaming pc. I wanted to get a newer entry level RG so I could have a floyd,HSH superstrat in E standard. I've had this RG for long enough to know it's a keeper. This thing has the same feel and vibe of my old JEM! Minus the monkey grip and other features obviously. The neck feels fantastic and I only had to do very minor setup adjustments to my liking. I would have liked a rosewood or ebony fingerboard but of course this is the lower end model. The Jatoba feels good under the fingers, similar to rosewood but with a slightly lighter shade to it. Like most guitars you buy online mine came desperately needing some good oil and cleaning. The Jatoba fingerboard seems to require a bit more lubrication than rosewood. The neck binding is done well, not perfect but to a good standard. I do wish the trem was an Edge lo-pro… But again, this is the lower priced model. There is nothing wrong with the Edge tremolo, it stays in tune well with whammy bar abuse but it is one of the bulkier Original Floyd Rose style bridges. The stock Quantum pickups are among the best stock Ibanez pickups I've tried. They are hot but versatile. However I did swap them out with the classic Dimarzio Air Norton/Steves Special combo and a True Velvet middle. I do believe a higher end Ibanez will obviously sound better than this but for the price it really is hard to beat! Well done Ibanez and AMS!Nevin

The Jatoba feels good under the fingers, similar to rosewood but with a slightly lighter shade to it. Like most guitars you buy online mine came desperately needing some good oil and cleaning. The Jatoba fingerboard seems to require a bit more lubrication than rosewood. The neck binding is done well, not perfect but to a good standard. I do wish the trem was an Edge lo-pro… But again, this is the lower priced model. There is nothing wrong with the Edge tremolo, it stays in tune well with whammy bar abuse but it is one of the bulkier Original Floyd Rose style bridges. The stock Quantum pickups are among the best stock Ibanez pickups I've tried. They are hot but versatile. However I did swap them out with the classic Dimarzio Air Norton/Steves Special combo and a True Velvet middle. I do believe a higher end Ibanez will obviously sound better than this but for the price it really is hard to beat! Well done Ibanez and AMS!Nevin

I am a experienced player who has tried a variety of guitars from all different price ranges and this was the first guitar I was lucky to get. For a guitar this cheap it played amazing. I don't know if I just got lucky but the guitar hasn't had many tuning and electronic issues. As of right now I use this guitar as my main. I am planning on putting in Seymour Duncan blackouts for a more fatter tone and louder and better sound. I really recommend this for any player at any skill level. It's good for any tunings and any gauge strings. I at one time had 13 to 65s and it still played amazing and doesn't take a lot of adjustments.Chase C.
I got this guitar plugged into my Bulgera V22 amp and immediately thought, this is blowing away my Fender Players Strat (MIM)…how can this be? I did have to adjust the string height was easy to do I figured eh? its new thats why I think its so great. Then I get on here and read the other guys review…saying the exact same thing, about his Fender MIM on the Bulgera V22 (which is an incredible amp by the way). I, like him feel it kinda sux my much more expensive Fender can't out do it. I'm gonna dare say after adding good strings? It may well give my EVH Wolfgang Special a run!…thats gonna sting. After really enjoying playing an RG standard at GC, I decided I wanted a Japanese Ibanez. This guitar is gorgeous. You open up the case and it's a plush red velvet contrasting perfectly with the sexy nebula green burst. It is incredibly easy to play! Has a perfect balance slung over your shoulder or resting on your thigh. They didn't cut any corners with this instrument. Pros: – Black chrome hardware looks slick – Neck very thin and flat. Not just for shredding! Strips of walnut add a touch of elegance. Satin finish makes this a fast neck. Jumbo frets feel great. The birdseye fretboard is gorgeous. Locking tuners are robust. Stays in tune like a boss! – Very clear difference in pickup output from neck to bridge. Bridge gets nice and dirty when the volume is up – Pickups are a bit hotter than I expected, especially the tone zone in the bridge, but dialing down volume cleans them up very nicely (when you want them to be clean). I'm guessing the hot pickups are for shredders, who are a target Ibanez consumer. The parallel mode is a sweet addition allowing pickup to sound like a single rather than a humbucker – Pickups have dimarzio embossed on them, but it's subtle and not visible from a distance- branding isn't as obnoxious as on seymour duncans – Volume and tone knobs are knurled making them easy to turn with just a touch and resistance is light and smooth. Great gradual effect (doesn't just jump from 100% to 10% when you turn the knob only a tiny bit) – Action can be set super low and bridge is very comfortable to rest your palm. No sharp saddles as on some tune-o-matics – Amazing custom-molded guitar case that looks sexy and has a hard plastic outer shell. Took this model and the Ibanez RG Prestige RG652AHMFX for test rides. I ended up keeping this one. The Prestige is a better instrument, but not nine bills better. They play very similarly. The DiMarzios in the Prestige sound better, sure-but you can add those to this one later if you'd like. Honestly, I'll probably just keep the Quantum pickups in it-they sound fine. Love the creative 5-way switching and the volume and tone work as they should. Tuning stability is spot on. Mine even came set up well. The wood is not the cosmetic grade that the more expensive models have, but I bought it to play in bars and small venues-not to look at it. The body is three pieces. That being said, it's more attractive than an affordable guitar has a right to be. The ash does make it brighter than your standard RG, but that's what I was looking for. I'd recommend it to anyone that's not a cork sniffer and needs a solid instrument they can use without fear of breathing on it.TG

I've been playing this guitar the RG470AHM for about 6 months now. I'm very impressed by the blue moon burst it looks like a prestige level guitar. the ash body gives it very decent sustain. I see people complain that the rg370ahm got the edge zero 2 and we got the standard DL tremelo But I can't complain because if set up correctly it holds tune great and does it job well. The block on the tremelo appears to be steel which is nice from I hear. I haven't deemed fit to change anything yet due to it being set up perfect for my needs and working well. The quantom pickups do very well and give both decent cleans and take well to distortion. I had to dial them in to my preference due to the sounding a little foggy. That being said this guitar can be easily upgraded. By upgrading the pickups for Seymour or Duncan's. Also you can upgrade the tremolo itself or jus replace the whole thing with a tremelo that fits the guitars route. Also by upgrading the block to brass and the tremolo claw for a locking tremolo claw. May also put inlays in the neck to give it the more prestige look. In my opinion this guitar gives you premium product for a great price . Nice wood work on mine great finish and easily upgradeableyugi-JD

Overall: Took me 2-1/2 years but I finally ordered this through zZounds on a blemished deal. Don't know if it matters or not but I waited 24 hours before opening. Well packaged. All accessories, tools, owners manual. Maple fretboard perfect. Small Crack in clear coat on body at neck joint. No worries. Paint missing where neck bolts to body. As I said blemished I understand. Time to tune. Ouch!!! Play 10 minutes retune, play 10 yeah you get the idea. Pick ups and bridge are not any where close to specs. Finally get days off from work. Now I'm no guitar smith but when I have time I can figure it out. New strings 9-42 NY/XL. Bridge alignment, tonation, adjust pickup height, slight neck adjustment, adjust tremolo springs. Totally amazing!!! Night to day. My old RG450 has the INF pickups and these quantums sound so much fuller. Sounds amazing through a Orange crush 20 and a Boss Mk100. I've been a long time Ibanez player. I have yet to have a guitar disappoint me. The first one of these I ordered did though. It came out of the box wrong. Weird is the best way I can describe it. It have "Jiva" on the headstock which is only on the Nita Strauss signature models, the neck felt rough, almost sticky and the tremolo creaked and refused to flutter. I promptly called AMS and started the exchange process. As soon as they saw that UPS picked up the old guitar and it was on it's way they sent the new one out. It got delivered on a Sunday! Upon opening this one, EVERYTHING about it felt different. Much more what I thought it was going to be. This guitar plays great! Fretboard and fretwork are solid, neck is smooth, action is right where it should be. The Ibanex trem does exactly what it's supposed and behave like a Floyd. The tone on this is wonderful. I've also played mostly DiMarzio pickups most of my life. These are wonderful pickups. Add in the coil tap and I've got a world of tonal options at my disposal. Overall: I purchased this guitar about a month ago and used it for my band’s last gig. The tone is phenomenal, the neck action is flawless and after hammering out 80’s solos for three hours it stayed in tune. In my opinion you will be challenged to find a better guitar for under $1k. The transition from dirty to clean is unmatched, the guitar looks amazing! If your budget is under 1k you MUST give this guitar a shot!My only complaint is be careful when bending the high E string as it can come off the fretboard…..Matt
I hadn't owned an RG in years and during the pandemic a lot of the ones I was looking and wanted were out of stock. I'm not big on gold hardware, but I love a blue guitar and this one caught my eye, so I bought it. It shipped to the house in two days and was set up well right out of the box. The DiMarzios sound amazing and the Ibanez FR style tremolo stays in tune very well. The fretboard plays like butter and the roasted maple neck is gorgeous! So I bought this from Sweetwater almost 2 years ago. The fusion edge pickups get a lot of slack for sounding muddy in all settings, and are supposedly very similar to the DiMarzio Titan pickups. I'm not sure on that last part, but on the first part I have no idea what the interwebs are talking about.I ran this through a bunch of amps (that I spent about a year dialing in the tones on each of them; little tweaks here and there over the course of a year) to get what I considered ideal metal tones for both recording and jamming. The Fusion Edge pickups sounded killer on every amp, in every position. Some of the amps I ran it through were the H&K Grandmeister Deluxe 40, Soldano 100 watt, Jet City, Triple Rectifier, Old School 5150, Engl Powerball and 2 different Line 6's: The Pod Go's Angl Meteor and a Flextone 3 head I've had for 2 decades. It sounded great.I bought this guitar because of the control placement; they're ideal in my opinion. The volume knob is out of the way, the pickup selector is in the perfect position and isn't a blade, which is huge for me, and it coil splits, which is a massive plus.The controls are the biggest selling point of the guitar for me.There's 3 things I hate about the guitar.1) The neck shape is NOT a Wizard. It is a super buly, fat and uncomfortable D shape. With my small hands, I eventually acclimated to it, but isn't my idea of a great ride. 2)The dot inlays look stupid. For a $… guitar, Ibanez should've gotten a bit more creative with a pattern. In a perfect world, there would be no inlays at all, just a beautiful blank canvas.3) My ultimate gripe with almost all Ibanez guitars: Bolt on neck. In spite of this, higher fret access is excellent and I barly noticed it's a bolt on, which is true of Ibanez in general. I called several luthiers in Texas, Arizona and New Mexico to see if I could find one skilled enough to reshape the neck for me. Only one offered to do it with confidence, but at a price that hardly seemed worth it. Therefore, in spite of the great tone and controls, I'm going to list it on Reverb today.The guitar is really for a big dude w/ big hands. My other huge gripe is that Ibanez will not open it's custom shop to the general public, so getting the right Ibanez for an individual player is impossible unless you're signed or touring, which is totally stupid. If they'd open their doors, I could've built the exact guitar I've wanted for 10 years, rather than constantly having to mod existing models, drill extra holes, fill holes and swap out electronics.This is a good guitar for any player of any style and is a worthy buy if you don't mind fad D shaped necks.

Overall: If you are a super strat fan, especially if you already like the way an RG feels and plays, this guitar is the ultimate. The guitar came literally perfect, the attention to detail is on par or above any guitar I have ever owned or played in my 36 years of playing (and I have had other custom shop guitars).The pickups, which are in other guitars as well, definitely have a slightly different tone with in this mahogany body with a maple cap. They are warm but not as dark as in some other mahogany Ibanez guitars – I'm attributing this to the nice maple top at this point.While the specs are the same, the neck feels slightly different than a Prestige but in a good way. The frets and the inlay were is flawless. The look slightly smaller due to the design but play similar to the jumbos on a Prestige but again, better.The guitar was packed well, came with the Certificate of Authenticity and everything needed (including strap locks)I had planned to get a different guitar this price range but after some reviews and knowing I already enjoyed my other RGs I decided on this and couldn't be happier. Truly this is the best guitar I have ever owned and possibly every played, it just feels right and the Edge Zero trem is phenomenal. I had it on an older model before they quit sending them to the US about 7 years ago. The tuning stability is perfect, as you would expect. The price? It's not cheap but this is basically a custom shop guitar where ever single detail is not only of the finest quality but the finest craftsmanship. Then you compare the cost to others custom shop guitars or from boutique builders, it's actually a bargain for what you get. The versatility of pick up combination means this can do everything from Jazz to Hardcore Metal with ease.While it actually doesn't matter in regards to playability, it pretty darn beautiful as well. The binding on the fret board is even flamed on the one I got. I couldn't ask for more as far as I'm concerned. If you are on the fence between this and another guitar, get the J Custom, you won't be disappointed on any level.Joe
Overall: Great guitar with A++ QC, not a flaw i could find, and i looked for a while. PRS which is known for great QC does not even compare to this. The play-ability is nice and the Edge Zero ii trem smokes the Floyd Rose, so easy to setup and returns to pitch very efficiently. The little stopper bar makes it so flutters are not as easy to do, but i'll give up those hot dog moves for superior function everywhere else. zZounds also was very patient with me when i was badgering them about the overnight shipping not arriving on time, they refunded me the cost no problem. I would buy this guitar again no questions.Robert

I'm a drummer who is a beginner to the guitar. After a lot of research and asking buddies, I made my decision on Ibanez for my first guitar, and then chose the RG421 due to its style, and the price. I knew I would dedicate more time to practice if I was picking up a nice spec'ed guitar, and this has proven true. The RG421 is a great model for both a learner and intermediate player. It feels great in the hands, the pick ups are great, 5 position switch giving the best options too. I chose this model because I wanted a fixed bridge. The Ibanez RG120 is not the most expensive guitar model in the Ibanez range so one cannot expect it to be a top model. There are better Ibanez guitars. But this guitar is firstly affordable and because this one was refurbished, the price made made it an affordable entry for me into Ibanez. A well known and well used by top guitarists brand. I also have a lower model of another well known guitar brand and the Ibanez plays much more beautifully. Once tuned at the lower frets it remains in tune all the way up unlike the other guitar which has to be retuned depending on where one will play on the fretboard. This guitar remains in tune when I use the tremolo bar. It has a solid feel about it and it gives a nice non tinny sound. This sound is due I believe to the pickups. I bought this guitar because the price was right and coupled with the shipping cost did not reach the taxable range for my country. It was a bargain. Also, I wanted to test Ibanez and this one has me hooked to the brand. I prefer guitars with the plug hole on the side close to the volume/tone knobs. This Ibanez has it on the bottom corner of the thin edge. I know that plugs break off if the wrong cable connector type is used which happened with my other guitar. But this guitar feels solid. I also prefer tremolo bars that can both flatten and sharpen the sound. The Ibanez tremolo only flattens or bends down only. I prefer weighted end tremolo bars that can be flicked making the rrrrr sound. This tremolo is weighted, has a nice feel and is not the screw on type yet the inner mechanisms of the guitar prevents it from resonating. It just bends once then stops. Overall, I will buy other Ibanez products but will be more careful to check on these features that I have mentioned because these make a guitar fun and safe for me.petaiab

This is a sick-looking guitar. The turquoise sparkle finish is off the charts amazing. Craftmanship leaves something to be desired though. It's only when you inspect the guitar more closely, and nothing that affects playability. Some cavities aren't finished, some light fret edges, and the screws of the pickup selector switch aren't exactly perfectly done. You can't compare it to a Prestige Ibanez made in Japan, of course, but for the money it's pretty darn awesome. The Quantum pickups are high output, and I actually love them, as you can do high gain lead, as well as clean funky, stratty and tele sounds. Super versatile, and hum free! 24 frets on a maple fingerboard with fantastic access to the highest frets, so playability is terrific. The neck is more like a slim Fender neck rather than a Super Wizard Prestige neck, but it's quite comfy. No sating finishes on neck and fingerboard, just nicely sanded maple. Tuning stability is very good, and I am not sure I'll even replace the no-name tuners with locking tuners down the line. The bridge is alright too. I wanted it for the sparkle finish, the maple neck/fingerboard, 24 easy-access frets, and hum-free pickups, and to attach my Roland GK-3 pickup on it, which works great.
