I have owned this Guitar for almost 2 years and I was very impressed with the finish on this Guitar the moment I took it out of the box. The gig bag and other accessories that come with this Guitar make it an exceptional value. I knew Nothing about Guitars when I bought it and All of my seasoned Guitar playing friends have played it and everyone has commented how nice it plays and sounds. I couldn't be happier. This is a solid build guitar, perfect for beginners. Mine worked well right out of the box (after tuning, of course). The amplifier works well also, for what it is; a low-power practice amp. The guitar kit came in fairly quickly, but right away there was a problem. It came with five strings, with what was left of the sixth stuck in the guitar, the tuner was shattered, and the kit was missing the Allen wrenches and the picks. The box was loosely packed with no styrofoam or anything, with the guitar in the gig bag and the rest of the stuff thrown into the pocket besides the amp. Seems like it was either a rushed job, or all come boxed like that. The guitar plays alright once the strings were replaced, but it loses tuning pretty quick. Theres obvious signs of neglect such as body chips near the neck, and scratches on the pick guard. The finish on the guitar is pretty nice, and it feels alright in the hands. I wouldnt recommend if you expect everything to come as described in the picture though.jonaba4165

Great little set for beginners or even intermediates as you get the whole package. The tuner is very nice and works well. Everything to get started and the guitar itself feels very solid and has better than average settings for the sounds you'd want. The extra strings were fine but I'm adding a better quality set which I already had anyway. Either way you can't go wrong on this package. The amp has good settings and sounds nice. Sound: The guitar came with Quantum pickups. I have Quantum pickups on another guitar, and they sound alright on my Jem Jr. However, they sound spectacular on this guitar. This may have something to do with the ash body on this guitar, vs. the Mahogany body on the Jem Jr.It is amazing that Ibanez can offer ash on a guitar in this price range, when Fender has stopped using ash on more expensive guitars. Features: The most useful feature on this guitar is the Edge Zero trem. As a matter of course, as I’ve done with my other trem equipped Ibanez guitars, I replaced the springs. The springs that come on these guitars are awful and won’t let the trem return to pitch. I replaced them with Floyd Rose extra strength, silent springs. Now the trem returns to pitch as good as my Floyd’s and original Edge trems.There is no string retainer on this guitar. If you put a few extra winds of strings around the post, it will increase the break angle from the back of the nut, where the strings exit. If you get the break angle right, you can lock down the nut without having to retune. Ease of Use: The guitar is quite playable out of the box, with the exception of the trem springs. There were a couple of high frets, but they weren’t high enough to cause buzzing with a normal action. I always do a level and crown as part of the set up anyway. Quality: The fit and finish on this guitar is excellent. I love the grey and black top on this. Definitely a looker. Also, the description of the guitar on the website, when I ordered it, said that the fretboard was Jatoba. Well, as it turned out, my guitar came with a rosewood board, which according to Ibanez’s website is what the guitar comes with for 2021.Also, the jack placement on the top, is really nice. The end to the cord doesn’t stick out. Just be careful plugging in. Value: This guitar is worth every penny I paid. I am quite pleased that the guitar is less than 600 dollars. Great bang for the buck. And zZounds makes it a no brainer with their payment plans. Manufacturer Support: I haven’t had to call Ibanez personally, but I have gone through the dealer before, and they have got fast service from Ibanez for me. The Wow Factor: This guitar not only looks good, but plays great as well. If you aren’t able to do work on a guitar yourself, spend the money for a pro set up. It’s so worth it. Overall: Well, I wasn’t sure what to expect, as I took a chance and bought one that was listed as minor blemish on zZounds site.It took awhile to get to me, but that isn’t zZounds fault. The FedEx hub in my state doesn’t have enough truck drivers, and delays at the Troutdale hub are just a reality at this time.It arrived well packed and it turns out that the minor defect was just a small crack at the neck pocket. This would have probably happened anyway, and it is really small.I did have to call customer service, due to a saddle adjustment screw rounding out when I set the intonation. This guitar rises above the 'super Strat' identifier. The playability of this instrument is incredible, especially if you are used to the neck profile of these guitars. All the standard pre-requesite Strat tones are here, instantly available for you via the 5 way switch. However, flip the dyna-MIX9 switch, and you have Tele style neck/bridge combo, the option of a neck humbucker (neck & middle PUs in series), 2 humbuckers, and bridge single coil (which I have used more than any guitar I have owned other than a Tele). The playability of this guitar is off the charts! Roasted maple neck & locking tuners keep it in tune for gigs beyond what I have seen in guitars before. I had one of the first series AZ back in 2019, a Premium model, which was very good although there were some things I didn't like that much or were not my cup of tea. The veneer was not to my liking, the pickups although good was a bit hot to my taste and liking, and no idea if it's the basswood body or the constructions difference, but when playing unplugged it didn't resonate as much, although plugged in was totally fine (but I tend to play unplugged as well so I look for guitars I enjoy playing unplugged too) Then I decided to go to a traditional strat and later on I went for a Suhr Guitar. Suhr is fantastic in every way. I sold my Suhrs because I was looking for a more vintage style strat but then decided wanted again a kind of superstrat HSS more modern sounding to replace a PRS I'm selling that it's great but a bit too much for me, and want a more player guitar. I was thinking on the Suhr, but then I saw the 2021 Ibanez AZ with rosewood and tortoise pickguard, covered humbucker, and less hotter pickups and wow, this guitar was perfect for what I was looking. Looks very classy, I got the blue one, single-coils sound great, very good clarity (not vintage style like my other strat, but I like that because they complement very well and serve 2 different purposes), the humbucker is great for rock, hard rock and like 80's rock (I'm not into extreme metal so not looking for that sound). And unplugged this Prestige resonates well, different than the premium I had, so unplugged sounds alive, and like these pickups much more than the Hyperion (but that's my personal preference) Neck is a bit thinner than the Suhr I had, but for a more modern approach is very nice and comfortable. I have no issues going from my 50's neck les paul back to the Ibanez AZ. And quality is there. Pros vs the Suhr, is that it has roasted maple that I really like, and the 9 switch sound options, that for me having the neck and middle parallel is like having a neck humbucker which is really awesome, what a versatile guitar. And of course the price! Pros on the Suhr is that those really are on the top of their game in quality and pickups I liked the Suhr ones a bit more. And the neck on the Suhr is fantastic. This doesn't mean the Ibanez is bad, on the contrary, I'm very very pleased and happy with the Ibanez, is more than enough for me, and even though the Suhr is amazing and overall I give them the edge over the Ibanez AZ, the AZ is top quality guitar too as well and I don't have the need to go for a Suhr with this AZ.Nico

Played guitar for over 20 years and haven't had a little practice amp in years due to the fact I play shows with half stack. This amp is decent quality, not enough volume to do hardly any type of playing with, no effects (which I understand that it's not a Line 6), overdrive is weak as well, and tone is very bland. I would go with a Line 6, Marshall or Fender amp for a practice amp, beginner or experience player.The Hendrix

I have had this amp for 12 years, and it has been used more than any amp in my collection. It has been my primary practice amp the whole time, and I've even been able to get some decent miked tones in the studio. It has had beer, water, soda, and other liquids spilled on it throughout the years and it still keeps on ticking. Just keep the jacks clean and you shouldn't have any issues. The distortion sucks, but it's better than nothing if you don't have a seperate pedal or processor (I still use an old Digitech GNX 2 modeler). It's not a bass amp, and you can't expect it to perform in a full-band scenario. It's a practice amp, and it definitely does its job well.guitar2mw

I purchased this guitar when it was $95 off full price. So that kind of makes it a worthwhile purchase. Definitely not worth full price in my opinion. Poorly packed with insufficient padding in the box allowed two of the strings to be bent during shipping. I assume this happened during shipping. They wouldnt send bent strings right? Thankfully they provided back up strings… The nut is very poorly crafted. You can visibly see burrs and imperfections in the nut that cause the strings to ring out of tune on certain parts of the fret board even after tuning. The pick-up selector nob fell right off first time I adjusted it. I will have to glue it myself. When the notes do play out true the triple pick ups sound better than the Peavy beginner guitar I used to have– Which only had two pickups and came in a similar starter package but was about half the price as this guitar. I think if I research how to fix some of the issues I can make it playable. But this guitar is far from playable out of the box. Fairly poor quality control.Cody

I was looking forward to ordering this as my first guitar after taking some classes a couple years back. The shipping was remarkably fast–however, when the product arrived the amp was completely broken. Upon plugging the guitar into the amp and strumming, it would make a horrendous scratching, broken sound. Plucking strings has the exact same effect, and occasionally the amp will cut off after a second of playing. I've tried adjusting the dials, turning overdrive on and off, I even bought a new cord thinking that was the issue to no avail. To make matters worse I have called the customer support number multiple times asking if I could recieve a partial refund, or ship back the amp for a functioning replacement–every time I'm left on hold before the call disconnects, if I can even get through to begin with. The only reason this isn't a one star review is that the guitar itself works fine and looks beautiful! I wouldn't reccomend buying the full set if they don't bother to make sure one of the most essential parts is functioning before shipping however.James B.

In December 2020, I purchased the Beginner Electric Guitar Kit w/ Case, 10W Amp, Tremolo Bar – 39in. The packaging was excellent and the delivery was on time. Initially, I purchased it for my kids but they did not express any interest. So, I took up the guitar myself and started learning via YouTube. I popped a few strings and when I took it to the guitar shop to have the strings replaced, they were pleasantly surprised by the quality workmanship of the guitar. Since then, I've learned to tune the guitar and replace the strings myself – courtesy of YouTube. The guitar is really great and I play it everyday. I'm not a great player but enjoy guitars and have a few. The box says, "Everything you need to start playing." That's true! Here's some detail: It's made in Indonesia, not China. The guitar is a beautiful candy apple red (limited edition – though "bullet Stratocasters" are available in other colors too) with a great paint job. Like most Stratocasters it has a contoured body, very comfortable unlike most squared off Telecaster bodies. The neck appears to have little to no finish on it but is very smooth and quite playable. The fret ends I'd describe as normal on a budget guitar, no sharp ends, but some weren't very smooth either. I noticed no high frets, and after fingering every fret on every string, no fret buzzing. It comes with a spare tremolo spring, tremolo arm, and two Allen wrenches one to adjust the truss rod, one for adjusting string height. Even came with 2 owner's manuals and 3 months of Fender Play online guitar lessons – which are great! The only thing I had to do was tune the guitar and it stays in tune pretty good during practice sessions. The pickup switch, tone and volume controls, and input jack were all fine. It came with what appeared to be a cheap Fender strap, but upon further inspection it's made of sturdy nylon with leather ends that were easy to install on the guitar. It's rather short, so I extended it as far as it would go, which was good enough for me, but if you're tall of play with a guitar hanging way down, it will be too short. It came with 3 Fender tortoise-shell-colored medium picks. Also came with a 10' (9' 10" is what I measured) Fender brand guitar cord. I think the cord is high quality. The amp is a Squier 10G which is the same as a Fender 10G, just with a different logo (I have a Fender 10G also). The amp cord is about 5' long, which is nice and better than the short cords on my Marshall MG15FX amps. The amp has a 6" speaker and provides 10 watts of power into 4 ohms. Most guitar speakers are 8 or 16 ohms, so it really is a small solid-state amp (would have 5 watts into an 8-ohm load). The size of the amp is amazingly small. It will take up less space than a pair of shoes in your closet, fit under your bed easily, in a backpack, school locker, etc. You'd think it wouldn't be able to produce any good sound because it's so small, but it's quite surprising. I own two to of these amps and smile/giggle every time I play them. I know one professional music school that uses only these amps for numerous students – it's all they need to learn to play in a small classroom. If I put the amp on volume 5 and the guitar on 5, it's plenty loud in a bedroom for practice (actually I prefer "4" on the guitar). If I put the amp volume on 8 and the guitar on 10 its way too loud and uncomfortable in a bedroom environment. The tone controls on the guitar when set from 1 to about 4 or 5 sound bad, horribly muddy. But from 5 up (mostly 8 to 10) it sounds good. Want to play "Sunshine of Your Love" and need a little "crunch?" Put the gain on 7 and push in the button to select the gain channel (it has clean and gain channels – it's so small you have to be careful not to knock the amp over when you push the button in) and voila' it has crunch and sounds better than you'd think! Will it sound like a Traditional Gibson Les Paul with Gibson "57" pups through a Marshall Origin 50 cranked or an American Fender Strat Ultra through a Fender Deluxe Reverb (tube one)? No, it won't, don't expect it too, but you won't be paying thousands for it either! Look at the price! All I can say is, WOW! For the money if you don't own any guitars at all, or if you're a curious collector like I am, I think it's an amazing value. The Affinity Strat packs are nice too!Nigel

I haven't had an electric guitar since I was a teenager and wanted an inexpensive one just to get back in the game. After reading many positive reviews and watching several videos on YouTube, I thought I would give it a chance, although I had very low expectations given the price point. Boy, was I right. This thing is junk! It will not hold tune even during the tuning process. By the time you get all 6 strings "tuned"…the first string is already flat. And don't even think about actually playing it in tune. It ain't happening. I hate that they call this a "beginner's" guitar. I'm sure many kids have completely given up on the guitar, as I did, because the lousy Chinese piece of wood with strings was just too frustrating to enjoy learning. Now, you could do what all the bloggers and Youtubers suggest and put another $300 worth of upgraded parts in this piece of junk to make it close to playable. Or, you could save yourself, and/or your child, the frustration and just pony up the money for a good guitar. Also, the amp in this kit is about as good as the backseat speaker in your grandmother's car. If there is anything good I can say about this guitar, it is a nice color and seems to be painted well. I wanted a white guitar to offset my black Yamaha APX600 acoustic. Which, by the way, is a much better guitar.GSW1

Played bass and electric guitar in high school, I recently retired, and got back into playing with an acoustic guitar about 4 years ago, and I wanted a electric guitar just for playing around. Strings were dirty, and some minor adjustments needed to be made, but overall a good guitar. As long as you remember it's not a $800.00 guitar and don't have any unrealistic expectations, and know how to do minor work on it, you'll be just fine with this, you can't beat the price.Anthony

There is plenty to like about this guitar, and I got it for the features I was looking for: locking tremelo, 24 frets, fast neck, 5 way pickup selector, and nice looks. My first impressions of the guitar was slight disappointment with how sloppy Ibanez was. The tops and bottoms of the frets needed to be beveled as they were pretty sharp, there was a noticeable nick on the fretboard, and there was a black smudge on the back of the neck. None of those was a huge deal. The main two issues I have with the guitar are that the middle pickup, the single coil, has such low output that the middle three positions are much quieter than the neck or bridge pickups alone. I do like the tone of the single coil in conjunction with the humbuckers, but those positions are somewhat useless considering how quiet they are, and I have ordered a humbucker to replace it. The single coil alone (middle position) has too much noise AND is too quiet. Not a big deal to replace a pickup, but why they are selling it this way, I'm not sure. The second issue is the volume control. Instead of a gradual swell, there is a sharp dropoff in volume at one point in the rotation of the dial, making it pretty much useless other than having it full on or all the way off. I am not sure if that is fixable, but if it is, I'll need to have that done as well. All that said, if the guitar had not arrived in such sloppy condition and the two problems were resolved, I'd give this guitar 5 stars.hickory spork

The Ibanez RG 450 or any of the RG's are with the exception of the factory p/u and electronic. capable of becoming one of the best performance guitars to own. The base Ibanez Floyd Rose system is fiddley but, after learning how to adjust/tune quickly becomes appreciated for holding tune no matter the severity of attacks you use with the tremolo. The Wizard(ll or lll ?) You would need to go to custom built to exceed the easy play and comfortable frets you will find on and RG. This recent RG450 I upgraded to equal the higher priced models by adding the De Marzio Tone Zone (B), Air Norton (N). And instead of going with the True Velvet. Added the Seymour Duncan Vintage Hot Stack for the middle position and added better electrics to even out the upgrades.. End result; This guitar plays and sound equal to guitars costing over $1,000.00!! Good bones! Yes this can be played well and many will find happiness with this as stock., and, will perform well against the competition dollar for dollar!ikeus

I used to own an '89 Ibanez VBK JEM that I regrettably sold to buy a gaming pc. I wanted to get a newer entry level RG so I could have a floyd,HSH superstrat in E standard. I've had this RG for long enough to know it's a keeper. This thing has the same feel and vibe of my old JEM! Minus the monkey grip and other features obviously. The neck feels fantastic and I only had to do very minor setup adjustments to my liking. I would have liked a rosewood or ebony fingerboard but of course this is the lower end model. The Jatoba feels good under the fingers, similar to rosewood but with a slightly lighter shade to it. Like most guitars you buy online mine came desperately needing some good oil and cleaning. The Jatoba fingerboard seems to require a bit more lubrication than rosewood. The neck binding is done well, not perfect but to a good standard. I do wish the trem was an Edge lo-pro… But again, this is the lower priced model. There is nothing wrong with the Edge tremolo, it stays in tune well with whammy bar abuse but it is one of the bulkier Original Floyd Rose style bridges. The stock Quantum pickups are among the best stock Ibanez pickups I've tried. They are hot but versatile. However I did swap them out with the classic Dimarzio Air Norton/Steves Special combo and a True Velvet middle. I do believe a higher end Ibanez will obviously sound better than this but for the price it really is hard to beat! Well done Ibanez and AMS!Nevin

An absolutely beautiful instrument, this is my second SA360 and although they are no longer. Made in Japan, be assured they have not lost any of the build quality or attention to detail. The guitar was really well set up, is great to play, feels good in the hand and sounds the bee’s knee’s. If you are looking to start out in guitar playing get yourself an Ibanez Gio to start as a first upgrade from that, then the SA series is where you want to be at.Timbo

Overall: I have never purchased a guitar online but my have things changed. My Son ordered an Ibanez AS7312 as a gift for me. I unboxed it and it was stunning and I am particular. I looked high and low for a flaw but found none. I checked the neck relief, it was perfect, fret rocker, perfect – fret sprout, none, it was tuned 1/2 step down and the intonation was as close as you could with 6 saddles on a 12 string guitar. Then I plugged it in and I remembered why I missed my old 12 string so much. All I can say is great job Ibanez and great job zZounds.Stan

I have owned my Ibanez Artcore AS7312 for about a year now, and I will say it is one of the best guitars I own…..and I own many. I was looking for an electric 12 string without the price tag of a Rickenbacker. Even though I looked at this Ibanez many times, it took me a while to order it because I was trying to decide if on a semi hollow body design that the jangly, cutting thru sound that I was looking for would be there. When the guitar came in and I plugged it into my Fender Twin I could not have been happier. The sound continues to amaze me even after a year of hearing it. I don't think I realized at the time I ordered it that it had a solid maple block that the pickups were mounted into much less realize what a difference in the sound, and sustain that this would make. The solid center block, and the back and sides are all maple. The block gives the guitar bite and sustain, while the maple back and sides tends to project with a more brighter sound…….perfect for a great 12 string sound….at least to me anyway. I should have known Ibanez would know what they were doing, but I guess I more equate Ibanez with solid body guitars so it took me a while to order it. I equally enjoy just putting on 6 strings and playing it that way too. I have a '64 ES-335 but I actually like the sound to this guitar better probably because it sounds more like a solid body and that is mostly what I play. It was a little hard pressing down 12 strings until I read that a lot of players tune down a whole step and then capo back up to the 2nd fret. This made all this difference and was then easy to play. This guitar has a great action, great tone, and is pure elegance and eye candy on stage, lol If you're looking for a great 12 string electric at a decent price I would highly recommend this guitar.kareydunn1805

First of all the AR420 is a beautiful looking guitar with the abalone giving just a perfect amount of bling. The setup and action were great out of the box. The pickups are pretty good sounding alnicos and the tritone switching on each pickup give a wide variety of tones. The parallel sounds are a great alternative to the full humbucker and aren’t as thin as the split coils. The neck is very comfortable, fret ends are well finished and the hardware all seems fine. I find it very nice to play and easy to get the sounds I want. Design-wise the shape gives very good access to the upper frets but that also leads to the primary drawbacks, neither of which is an enormous issue for me but just annoying. Firstly the guitar is neck heavy so it does want to dive and secondly the pickup selector switch is directly above the neck pickup as it had to be brought forward towards the bridge due to the cutaway. That does make it susceptible to being knocked while playing with a resultant pickup selection change. Overall I am very happy with this guitar.Andrew C.

There are hundreds of reviews on this guitar, of course some good and some bad. The good reviews (4-5 stars) far out number the rest. Although I’ve read some really, really bad ones. I suppose every guitar maker churns out a turd on occasion when mass producing affordable beginner (read inexpensive) guitars.
I can only tell you about my particular guitar.
It is fantastic, it’s beautiful, sounds amazing (plugged in and acoustic), plays amazingly well, stays in tune, the tuners are smooth and work as you would expect on a much more expensive guitar. The neck is perfect, the action is great (Martin MA540 Authentic Acoustic Light strings 0.054-0.012). I haven’t a single complaint I can’t say whether the quality has gone up or down in the last few years. Mine is an earlier production model about 10 years old. They’re relatively common , You can find a nice used one locally in most cities for under $150. That way you can play and give it a thorough inspection before you buy it. I usually don't leave negative reviews. This guitar is beautiful, it sounds amazing. However, I just can't believe that guitar center would let this be shipped. The neck seems fine but every fret divider is razor sharp. It's so uncomfortable that I have quit playing it. Living in a small town it's very expensive to return stuff, so I guess it will just sit for now. To guitar centers credit, I have shopped there for many years and never been disappointed. But gee guys, why wouldn't you be checking this stuff? If I picked it off your wall I would never buy it unless you fixed it for me. Sorry but this sucksJohn

Tried out two of these at the local store looking for a first guitar for my son. Both sounded pretty good for the price point, but both had problems with the neck and really terrible frets. Terrible like not safe for children or unsuspecting adults – they both had sharp edges sticking out the whole length of the neck. Between that, some minor string buzz, a crazy high 9th fret on one, and iffy intonation on the other, it just didn't seem worth getting either of them. What's the point of getting a low priced guitar if you have to spend $100+ getting it worked over to make it playable? I suspect that the neck binding makes it difficult for the factory to really get the frets properly dressed and still pass cosmetic inspection. It may be I just had the bad luck to find the two worst examples of this model in the same store, but I suggest you move up notch in price range and you will be happier with what you get.triple.ratrider

Overall: I have a Gibson, Fender, Martin and now an Ibanez. I was excited so I felt it important to wait until I have had a few months playing before offering any review. To date the guitar has been a joy. I felt the finish was very good. It did require a slight bridge adjustment for the G string to intonate correctly and was a bit of a bear in the beginning. Once that was worked out the joy was everlasting. The sound options are immense. The single coil mode and the out of phase gives so many tonal options it will be a long time before I explore and find them all. I have broken several strings both at the keys and the bridge. Not sure if this is related to finish work but I have not done any work to remediate that. Guitar is light and easy to fit the body well. We'll see how things hold up over the long term.Ray

The Guilted Ash is stunning visually and sonically. The fit and finish is top notch. Ebony fretboard is flawless. The neck is in between the ES-339 and ES335 I owned, which is perfect. A far far superior guitar for half the price. Came in a hardshell TSA case.JK

This guitar is a high quality one! You can feel that everything is precise as far as the craftsmanship. This has an extremely smooth neck. I have never used these pickups , but I like them a lot. I get some good mid-range. There are 2 things that I would say are yellow flags. Not anything bad, but something you should know if you are buying this: Setup – I had to restring and also adjust the guitar to my liking. This is not necessarily a bad thing, considering I do that with all of the guitars I buy. Weight – this is SOLID. Definitely the heaviest guitar I own. I don't know if it is because of the Ash wood, the electronics, combination of the 2, the other wood, no idea. It is a heavy guitar. I don't plan on standing for a long period of time with this one. This is not a bad thing for me, more of a surprise.Elusive One

This has become my absolute number one guitar. I'm primarily a hard rock/metal player, but I've found my dabbling in fusion style playing to be quite pleasing with this guitar as well. First and foremost the tone achieved by the unique combination of mahogany body and ash top with the Fishman Fluence pickups is wonderful. For over eighteen years I was team passive, really not liking active pickups except. With that being said, I did find them useful for precise and technical rhythm playing, but sterile and non-dynamic for lead playing. I'm happy to say that not only is the active tone far superior in every measurable way to that other brand that introduced active pickups, but with a flick of a switch you engage a passive voice that sounds like somewhere between a JB and Distortion. This mode is well suited to clean tones and is great for playing classic metal. Switching between the two voices is an extremely engaging way to experience the instrument and makes you feel unbelievably connected with her. I don't think I've ever read a guitar review where someone says "the picture doesn't do it justice", but I assure you that in this example it is absolutely true. You can see the ash pattern through the finish quite easily and the glossy coat really makes it sparkle and shine. The only tradeoff I would point out is that the glossy finish is a little less smooth than a satin finish, but you smile every time you look down at the guitar and its beauty so not really a big deal. The neck is wonderful, smooth and FAST. Again the pictures do not do that awesome birds eye maple justice. The stainless steel frets are enormous and will give you absolute confidence with your bends and vibratos. One other thing to point out is that I'm not an Ibanez fanboy. I've always respected their instruments, but found some of them a bit too lightweight feeling. This guitar has a great solid feel to it and the resonance and sustain is far superior to any Ibanez that I've played before. Perfect.Tirpitz

This guitar plays really easily, the action is low and notes have great sustain. The pick ups give a wide range of tones and sound super clean. The finish is stunning, it looks close to black in some light but has glints of green and purple if light is shined directly on it. The quality control is top notch and I can't find a fault with it. Once the new strings have settled it stays locked in tune.Scott D.

This guitar is great, I went in shopping with my guitar teacher and we both decided that this was going to be the best for me going forward and I have no regrets. Looks great, sounds solid and consistent, feels amazing, and at a price point that contrasts with its "thousands-of-dollars" feel!Hudson

The neck profile is even MORE smooth and inviting than the 2001 JS1000 black pearl. I don't usually go for rounder radius fretboards (this one is 9.8"). I prefer 10.5"-12.5" minimum – and love compound radii – but the JS profile manages to satisfy me in ways words can't express. It's got "mo' Joe", to pardon the pun. The pickups are creamy and milky, with some gritty bite when you start pushing the overdrive into distortion. It has slightly more of "fuzz" compared to older model JS series pickups. You can always tweak EQ somewhere in your audio chain to boost the treble/tone a bit (which is what I do). Crunch is aggressive, while retaining excellent note clarity and precision. It has a Strat-style throaty growl with a hint of quack. What separates it from a Strat, though, is a warmer, creamier tone with less sparkle or crystalline chime of a Strat. The Sustaniac is a fun curiousity, but I'm not really sure how much I will use it. Honestly, I may prefer the coil split option over a Sustaniac, but being so in love with the Chrome Boy design, it's a sacrifice I'm willing to accept due to all the other benefits of actually OWNING a Chrome Boy(!). I have found a lot of interesting compositional concepts with the sustain settings and use of the whammy bar. With the Sustainiac engaged, it also increases the feedback response of a high-volume amp with overdrive/distortion, which opens the door for unique harmonic overtones while playing, making unusual audio flourishes easier to jump into, then out of on a whim. CONCLUSION: This is essentially the same as the Ibanez JS2480, but with the chrome body. A much steeper price tag goes with the finish, but Satch fans may find that price discrepancy acceptable, if they happen to have the ungodly amount of cash to get it. I have been eyeing a new Ibanez JS model since 2013, and finally bit the bullet on this beast. Is it worth it? For me, yes, it is. However, if you want the same options as this guitar, you can do JUST as wellKcMsterpce

Well being a Satch fan boy for three decades may have biased me slightly in favour of this guitar, but it is the real deal. Fretboard is super nice to play. Whammy bar action feels about the best I've ever found. The sustainiac is really fun. Body shape is quite comfy to hold. Not very nice. Box came opened, missing instruction manual and documents. Tags cut off. Scuff marks on back. What’s with that AMS? I ordered a new guitar. The guitar after needing to be set up is amazing otherwise. I love it and still want to keep it even though I was disappointed at first. My only complaint is that the gig bag is flimsy, no protection and the guitar doesn’t really even fit right because the gig bag is too big.Leo

Sound: This is probably the best sounding guitar I have ever played. I had the privilege of playing a '48 Fender Jazzmaster, which to date was the most versatile guitar I had used…until I played this one. It literally sounds great with any style I have thrown at it, blues, metal, folk, classic rock, even some country my buddy plays… they all sound great, I was really surprised. The five way switch allows for excellent low end, mids, and highs, I really would not change anything. Features: The Edge Zero II tremolo is unbelievable, I have beat the crap out of it and it doesn't lose tuning even a little bit. There are videos of Nita picking it up by the whammy bar and bouncing it and it stays in tune, I haven't done that (yet) but I have been rough with it and I find it flawless.The Dimarzio Pandemonium pickups in the bridge and neck are the star of the show as far as sounds, it's incredible what you can do with them tone-wise. The True Velvet single coil is really top of the line no complaints at all with the hardware or electronics. Ease of Use: This guitar is designed to play fast, but really I found that it can handle any sound, The five way switch and the tone knob make it super easy to dial in what you want on the guitar itself. Once I had it setup, the playability is great, I can't think of anything I would change. The S style body is light and comfortable, I have played for hours with a strap and barely notice that it's there.As far as restringing with the floating tremolo, I must say it was the easiest floating tremolos I've ever restrung. Once it's setup just use the same brand and size string and it was like tuning a fixed bridge.I did have to have the guitar setup the first time, but that's pretty standard for any guitar out of the factory. Quality: The finish is fantastic. As I stated above, you really have to see it in person to get the full depth and effect of the finish, it shows more in some videos I've seen, but I don't think the photos do it justice. The Beaten Path inlay really makes the ebony fretboard pop out. the 3 piece Nitro Wizard neck is effortless to play on, I really like that the finish on the body is also on the headstock. The body and hardware are professional quality, I found no flaw in mine at all. I think the guitar will last more than a lifetime if properly cared for. Value: I thought the price was a little high compared to the Jem and other higher end Ibanez products, but once I played it and compared it to the other products, I feel it was worth the extra couple hundred. The ability to get practically any type of tone and have it sound amazingly good in all of them… well it was worth it to me anyway. I definitely recommend trying one out and seeing for yourself. Like I said earlier, I dismissed it and once I saw it and handled it in person, it's the one I bought…so… Manufacturer Support: I have not had to contact customer support but Ibanez is known to have good support. The Wow Factor: The Jiva looks amazing, sounds even better than it looks. The craftsmanship is not lacking in any way I can think of. You can find guitars that look and sound great, but I have not found any that are as versatile and fun to play as this one. I would recommend it and maybe even purchase a second myself. Overall: I purchased this guitar through a local store. I actually was looking at the Blue Floral Jem, or Genesis RG series reissues, I played a couple of Jacksons and a Charvel too. Then I tried this JIVA 10 and I must say it blew me away, the sound is just killer, and the way it looks is fantastic. The finish is really one you have to see in person to get the full effect of, the pics don't really show it, but it has a greyish green tinge to the color that I think is really awesome and gives the guitar a great look. Honestly I had dismissed the guitar when looking at most sites online due to the photos and lack of reviews, but I was wrong to do so, seriously this is worth checking out and comparing, I walked away with it over the Jem and it was an easy decision…(sorry Steve).Jason

This guitar has great sustain and has some nice clean tones also. Much crunch with string buzz/hum which isn’t ideal. You’ll need to plan 3-4 hours to get the strings at the correct height to decrease the pick-up/string buzz.CBGB

The electrics on this guitar are the key difference, the pickups are very articulate and for high gain with control they are superb. The trem is weightless and wonderful to use, The neck is more profiled than I expected, nowhere near as flat as the Vai models like PIA, but I’m finding it very quick and more complex runs are coming more easily than usual. The sustainiac mode is a bit nuts, unless you really want to be satriani I’m not sure how often you’d use it but it’s a lot of fun; hit a squeally harmonic then listen to it sustain for months. Overall everything about this guitar is pure quality but it’s the overdriven tone and the solo friendly Mids that are the highlight.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
