I've been in the music industry professionally playing Trombone and horn section for 25 years. But the Guitar world still feels a bit alien to me As a complete novice, learning Acoustic Guitar for the first time, I'm starting from scratch with accessories and strings, straps to finger exercisers. I know a fair few Guitarists playing Electric, Electro Acoustic and Bass and they ALL recommend Planet Waves now D'addario. I can understand why! The 2 way Humidipak system is genius in its simplicity. 3 packets of Water Gel like substance that you put in cloth bags. Hang 1 of the bags over your strings into Sound Hole. The other bag placed under Headstock in the case. Easy. Totally mess free, no water near the Guitar or case. Takes a minute to setup. Looks great too. You don't need to loosen the strings to use the Humidipak. What sold it to me is the 2 way process. Not only does it add humidity to your Guitar and case, it takes it out too. So there's little chance over doing the humidity and making your Guitar too wet. Which I'm told is as bad as over drying. The packs last from 2 to 6 months apparently and then you buy refils. If your Guitar is over dry there are stronger Humidipaks available that either precondition or help restore. Then you switch to regular packs. Yes it's a little costly but if your Guitar is valuable to you or in money this is peace of mind. Especially as most insurance companies do not cover for over dry guitars apparently!William G.
This is an excellent product but a little common sense goes a long way. If you live in a very dry climate (e.g., Arizona, where I lived for many years) you'll need supplemental humidification. When I lived in Phoenix I used a room humidifier, an Oasis case humidifier, and Humidipak. On the other hand, if you live in a very humid climate (e.g., Houston, where I live now), your Humidipak pouches may never dry out because they're absorbing moisture, but they still need to be replaced every six months. I've never experienced a leakage problem in 10 years using Humidipak, but it certainly could happen. On balance, I think the small risk is worth it. Every solution for the humidity problem has its limitations, but in my opinion this is the best bet.Mark
I must've gotten a bad batch, the dehumidification does NOT get the airspace into the 40-60% range. I tested in freezer bag, some 70% basement air, two hygrometers and a bare humidipak (without the cloth cover). Within 2 hours the airspace in the bag was brought to 65%, impressive, however it did not go any further the rest of the day. It looked like it was hovering around 65%, which is contrary to the advertising. These were two salt-tested hygrometers to measure. So I will have to augment with silica gel packs to get it in range, the humidipak would then compete with the silica gel to keep the air from drying out too much hopefully in the 50% range. This is assuming the humidipak humidification function is working better than its de-humification function.Richard

I prefer the clay humidifiers to the sponge types. They dont drip or get lost in the guitar hole.a440melody
I've got several humidifiers, some are better than others. This on works well if your instrument is always in its case. I prefer to have my guitar out, where I can get to it. I've come to a conclusion that it's easier to keep my guitars in a bedroom and buy a small humidifier for that room, monitoring the room humidity. Works best for me.Gary T

I travel to Arizona several times a year and always take an acoustic with me. I was looking for a product that would work longer than a day or two and this one did the trick. Even in a dry climate this will last about seven days and then you just soak the Sponge in water for a couple of hours to rejuvenate it. My internal case humidity stays around 48-50% RH.Bryan
Living in Arizona is drying out my 6 and 12 string acoustics; these fit nicely between the middle strings and keeps the moisture content correct to avoid further drying out of the guitars. The pro model has a harder sponge, but let it soak for an hour and it will really hold water!biglion56

I've reviewed these several times before but my HO hasn't changed. I spend a lot of time traveling with many of my guitars stored at home. I know of no better way to ensure the proper humidity environment for my stringed instruments. Until now, I've really only used them with my acoustics and my ukulele. I now have started using a couple with each electric too, to prevent the fingerboard from drying out and popping frets. I even have a set with my upright bass. Highly recommended.MarkInTheGardens
i started using this system a couple of years ago. at a gig a strap on my guitar bag slipped loose – my guitar (taylor 310 kce) hit the floor (ouch!) as a result there wasa large area on the top, about 1 to 2 inches square that was chipped loose. i contacted taylor, and set it up to send the axe to them for repair – they did a beautiful job, and there is barely a scar along the edging where the guitar took the brunt of the drop. while i had it there i had them perform one of their total maintenance services – neck adjustment, new nut, fret adjustment if necessary, and re-humidification. when i got it back i wanted to maintain the proper humidity level, and this system seemed heaven sent. i used to get my replacements from my local guitar shop – but the last time i did that they were sold to me separately out of a bulk package, and i felt that they were a little old, and not as effective. to replace it i did a general google search for guitar polish and the gibson pump as well, and found that you had both, and at the best price. so. thanks!Cary
There are all sorts of guitar humidification systems but most of them only increase humidity. This one works both ways to maintain your (CASED!) guitar at a steady 50% humidity. Iv've been using them for 5 years and can say, with confidence, that they actually work. Most folk don't appreciate how hich the humidity can get in the UK. Frequently 70% and occasionally pushing 90% (next 10 days rage is 68-90%) so you want to reduce humidity, not increase it!. You MUST keep your guitar in its hard case and you MUST keep the case closed AT ALL TIMES as it is "conditioned" to 50% humidity. As soon as you have finished playing, put the guitar back in its case and close it up. Et voila a stable 50% humidity environment for your treasured instrument to live in. I am averaging around 3-4 sets a year but, with my Taylor 916ce tipping the scales at over 4,000, I recon it's worth it!alshubby

This system is unique because it keeps the guitar in the optimal humidity range. I've been using it on my guitars for more than a year and I just bought my second replacement package. Each package lasts more then three months for me, even though the manufacturer says it should lasts less, so that was a good surprise for me.
These humidification pack do exactly what you need them too. We are have a tough and dry winter but my guitars are resting comfortably at a constant 45 degrees relative humidity – no worries here! I've spent quite a bit of money on my acoustic collection and these provide the protection I need. As an added bonus, when summer (finally) rolls around, they also control over humidification so the instruments still sound great. Not cheap but worth the cost and easy to use. No need to check and refill.Dan
I have using these for a few years. I learned the importance of humidity control when I almost lost my 12- string Rickenbacker to fretboard warpage. If you've played guitar for a while, you have probably accumulated a lot of guitars. These packs save the problem of opening every guitar every day to add water in winter. These packs work as both humidifier and dehumidifier. These last 2-3 months. You can reuse them although they don't tell you that. When they feel hard ,you can put them in a closed container w small container of water and let them sit.Andy

I uses these perfect little babies in the guitar case to protect the head stock from dry out. Just fill the sponge with water and drop it in the headstock area of the acoustic guitar case. This is one of the few perfect, simple, and trouble free designed humidifiers I have seen. I've used them for years. Sometimes simple…is far better. And these are simple to use, and they work. One of these may also be dropped in the storage bin of case to protect the neck from drying out and bowing. They also usually in the main body of the case, however I think the green snake hose humidifiers work better in that area of will fit in the case beside the body or neck of the acoustic guitar. But the headstock needs to be protected. I have several Gibsons which have Mother of Pearl inlays on the Head Stock and these inlays can crack, and the nitro surface of the head stock also can fracture around the inlays, if the head stock gets too dry in low humidity conditions. These small drop in humidifiers are a God send of protection! I actually think they are way too expensive for what they are, but they work…and they last for years. It's better to use one or two of these in your acoustic guitar case, than damage your fine guitar by letting it dry out when the humidity drops below 45 percent.Mr. Alan

Humidifier works great but the HTS has issues. The battery cover wouldn't stay on and this caused the display to go on and off and the memory wouldn't hold since the battery couldn't keep constant power to the HTS. I wouldn't purchase this unit. I would look to something else.Sartor269

Reviews:
A humidifiers is a tool for guitarists in the dry Western US that keep the guitar from drying out. I've used the Planet Waves humidifiers for years. I haven't tried their new series that has the high-efficiency sponge, but here's why I like the Humitars: The high efficiency sponge is large and holds a lot of water, so it can keep moisture inthe case for considerably longer. The flip top is super easy, which makes it quicker and means you can't misplace the top.Tuck
This product is easy to use and easy to check to see when the special sponge needs more water. My forced hot air home heating system has a humidifier system built in, but when its 32 degrees or colder outside (which is 5 months of the year where I live) the inside home humidity only gets as high as 28%, far below the recommended 40 – 45% range for acoustic guitars. I was using the OH-3 Oasis in my acoustic guitar but discovered recently that it has failed at the fabric seam and was slowly leaking water which caused damage to the finish of my guitar. I no longer trust, will not use, or recommend Oasis guitar humidifiers after my experience with their OH-3. I was careful to check to make sure that the Music Nomad sponge wasn't going to leak water before putting the device in the sound hole of my guitar. I checked after two minutes, 20 minutes, 2 hours, 1 day, and it didn't drip any water out onto/into my guitar. I've been checking the sponge daily to see when it needs to be replenished with distilled water and it's been a week so far and the special sponge still has water in it. So far so great!R.
I believe that this is the best sound hole humidifier on the market at present. The small Chinese options are not openable but have a tiny sliver of "oasis" that stuff they use for flower arrangements which dry out pretty much instantly and leak if over filled. The Planet Waves version is smaller and consists of a sponge holder, and a lid and the holder has to be squeezed hard to open. In side is a very ordinary piece of large holed sponge which dries out very quickly. The Guitar Nomad can be refilled without removing it from the guitar simply by opening the hinged lid. The very high density sponge is, thus far, the best I've seen. I've now ordered one for each of my higher value round hole instruments.perry686

11. Oasis Oh-30 Hh Combo Humidifier/hygrometer
Product Details:
The oasis hh combo oh-30 is the only humidifier/hygrometer designed to fit in the soundhole of a steel string acoustic guitar. when using a humidifier to boost the humidity inside a musical instrument it is important to monitor humidity levels. otherwise, maintaining correct humidity is just guesswork. the hh combo has two parts. above the strings, the upper portion of the unit contains a clearly visible and accurate hygrometer, which can be calibrated by the user if necessary. the humidifier clips securely into the bottom of the hygrometer. suspended by the strings, the humidifier releases moisture evenly and slowly inside the guitar yet never touches the instrument body. a specialized, drip-resistant sponge holds 10 times its dry weight in water, which allows for longer periods between refills. there are four openings on each side of the humidifier for the water vapor to escape. this is sufficient for most dry areas. in dryer climates like arizona, there are four additional openings which can be punched out to provide more humidity. the sponge is easily recharged by moistening the sponge with distilled water. using the hh combo during dry months will protect your instrument safe from cracks and warping.
Reviews:
Since this product is composed of two parts, I'll review them separately. The sponge/water reservoir that disperses the humidity is a good system. I'd rate it a 4. The special sponge holds more water than regular sponges, and the design keeps the water from dripping into the guitar. The electronics section showing temperature and humidity is junk. I'd rate it a 1 or less. I did a test of it in a dry room, with accurate measurement as 25% humidity. This junk started off showing humidity at 47%. It slowly decreased to about %37, then started increasing again back to 47%. What a lie! The intended positioning on the guitar doesn't allow me to close the guitar case, another poor feature. It'd probably break the guitar or the strings if I forced closing it with this attached. And storing the guitar in the case is the only way to go if you're concerned about humidity. The solution I've come up with is to remove the worthless electronics section (tossing it in the trash), and use a binder clip to hold the sponge reservoir to the guitar strings. This generally keeps it from falling through the sound hole. A better design would have been to have had some extendable arms to keep it above the sound hole.JR
The device holds a lot of water safely, and the hygrometer appears to be accurate. It is designed to hang from the strings into the body of the guitar so beware that if you have a "thinner than normal" guitar (or bouzouki or …) you will have to improvise a little. It also came with a bag you can use to recalibrate the hygrometer. That was a nice perk, even though I haven't needed yet.Joe

This is a replacement for the same type/brand of humidifier that's in it plus adding the in case hygrometer will help a great deal.Ed
