Reviews:
As a relative newbie to bass playing I thought I'd invest in something a bit better than my basic P bass. As soon as I picked it up it felt light and comfortable. I like compactness of the guitar and how easily could find the strings and frets when practicing . . which makes my learning process quite a bit easier. The sound quality is both good and varied with Hofners pick up set up. The bass just looks good too, which I know doesn't influence the playing experience etc but it makes you want to just pick it up and play. Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase and look forward to many an hour practicing . . . and maybe even making some progress too.Duncan S.
I got this exact bass in green here from Musician's Friend (stupid deal of the day). I have played about 20 or more live shows with it send it definitely holds up.. it has a very big sound and is extremely lightweight, which is fantastic because we move around a lot. The craftsmanship is pretty good, probably adequate to that of the Epiphone viola, but with a cooler color. I constantly get compliments on the color. The only thing I'd say I would have liked better is if they had put a little more quality or craftsmanship into the control panel. It's not horrible at all, it definitely does the trick, it just kind of looks plain Jane. I would suggest switching out the volume and tone knobs with the vintage style tea cup knobs. That's what I did, and it really helps dress the bass up.Arrow
I'm a keyboard player getting back into playing bass after decades away, so I did a fair amount of research before this purchase, and I'm glad I did. There is a very really difference in quality between the 'Contemporary' and 'Ignition' Hofners, both in terms of finish and sound – The contemporary has better sustain and more 'richness' in the bass end. If you are wanting either something approaching an 'electric upright' or a classic McCartney sound, then the Contemporary will get you nearer than the Ignition – it's not in the 'German Made' class but unless you've got 2 grand to spend… Mine arrived on time and well set up. Very pleased with it.Willow S.

I saw and played two of these in a GC and the were on clearance. But that was not good enough to drop 3 bills for them. They felt like toys, cheap and fragile. This is actually the same feel I have from my Hofner cheapo bass. I also own a Violin epiphone and an even cheaper Rogue violin bass which is much better made with a ballsy feel to it.. I thought of this for a collection piece and than thought better not. I will probably sell the Hofner bass version of this as well. Caveat emptorSaul MacCarthie

Never played a hofner before so didnt know what to expect. The experience with PMT was good. came well packaged 10 out of 10 for them. The bass has nice neck no sharp frets and the ends seem to be dressed nicely. seems well set up and even arrived in tune and the electronics seem good and do what they are supposed to do. There are a couple of small blemishes in the paint but nothing to fret about, however it says its transparent black of which it kind of is on the back, if you catch the light right, so a bit disappointing on that part. The other disappointing thing (and i dont know if this is a thing with all Hofners ) is neck dive. One more thing that makes it look cheap is the quality of the Hofner Logo, it awful. overall though its a nice bass to add to the fleet for a bit of variety.Adrian W.
Absolutely gorgeous bass. The smaller scale is comfortable and easy to play. There is a slight buzz that sometimes occurs at the tailpiece, but does not affect the sound when plugged in. The tone itself is beautiful, as is the finish! Fantastic bass for the price, and it looks so nice hanging on the wall.S P.
Superb bass guitar, perfect for my 14 year old beginner, it’s light, has a great sound and is meticulously finished. Postage was super super fast and I’m not based in Mainland UK! Well impressed with every aspect, from the easy to use website and purchase process to delivery and especially the guitar itself. Thank you!Louise H.

Reviews:
Just took delivery of a used Hofner shorty bass in black. Lovely instrument. Fit and finish was fine. I had to do a little bit of intonation setting which took no time. The neck is better than expected. Frets are finished properly and the neck has a nice satin finish. Its not to wide, not too thick and feels great. The pickup delivers and even sound across the strings. There are no dead spots. Volume and tone controls work great and the knurled knobs feel very good. I was able to dial in some of my preferred sounds using the VPF control on my Markbass Blackline 250 going through a Markbass NY604 cabinet. I was also liking the sounds going through an Eden World Tour preamp. Im looking forward to rehearsal tomorrow using the Eden directly into an EV ZLX 12 powered cabinet. The bass came professionally packed and really appeared to be new. Love the padded Hofner gig bad with the logo on it. All in all a great small, inexpensive (but not cheap) bass for practice, performance and especially travel.Miguel404
First of all, this bass is just what I wanted for practicing when traveling. Compact, 24 frets, decent electronics and comes with a gig bag. Intonation was pretty good too. I did adjust the intonation, but that's really only because I'm kind of fussy about intonation. One thing I will say is I had never experienced "neck dive" until I owned this bass like. in the resting position, the bass headstock will point right down to 5 o'clock. Since this is a practice instrument, I made some modifications. I put weight in the body cavity, but the body cavity is not huge, so with extra weight, I could get the neck to hang in the resting position at about 3 o'clock. I next removed the front strap pin and drilled a 3/8" in diameter hole 2" into the body at the same angle as the strap pin screw. I purchased 3/8" aluminum round stock and cut it to 7.5". 2" would insert into the body and 5.5" would remain outside to mount the strap button while extending out to nearly the 12th fret. I painted the round stock black (primer and paint). I mounted (drilled and epoxied) the strap button on the end of the round stock. I think epoxied the extender into the body. It looks pretty darned good and now the bass balances perfectly.Kevin1014
I have to say I’m so impressed with my new Hofner Shorty ct Bass. I’m used to gigging for years with Monster weighted P basses so the Shorty is such a relief. …. Like Air. Because body is so small it does allow this neck dip everyone cites but with a strap and playing on stage it’s not a problem. The quality and finish is flawless and was Lucy to get a Rosewood neck on mine not one of those horrible Jotoba Cites ones (Though fully understand we have to save planet somehow). The guitar sounds like any Bass circa £300-£500 bass and means you can leave your Musicman and Fenders at home in Studio. Great for touring Bassists who just want easy gigging experience. Well done Hofner!

I just love the weight and tone of this bass. I bought my 1st one in 1964 and have had several others since. The only minus is that it is so connected to Paul it doesn't look as cool with other players. The tone and ease of playing make up for the McCartney cool factor. Would recomend for anyone who wants a bass that sounds great and is easy to play………Rivets
owning the Hofner is a dream come true, especially the Vintage 1962. I also have an an Ignition, Union Jack, which I purchased last year. I use the Ignition when I go to my lessons and if we are playing outside. My Vintage 1962 I also use practicing at home or when I play inside or with the church group.

Reviews:
Fantastic bass for the price! I was definitely surprised by the build quality, sound and play-ability of this bass considering the price and where it is made. I rated it 4 stars as intonation was ok at best, still totally playable straight out the box regardless. I would recommend the Club Bass to anyone looking for a hollow bass guitar! Oh, and flatwounds are a must on this bass for that 'true' Hofner tone.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
I purchased this bass because complications from surgery made playing my jazz bass difficult. I was hoping that the quality would be at least acceptable. I have always heard that you get what you pay for, so my expectations weren't really high. I far underestimated my good fortune. The bass is very well constructed, beautifully finished, has great tonal range, and played like butter right out of the box. I was unsure at first how well I would be able to gig with it, but I sat in behind several different players at an open mic night 4 week after surgery, after not having picked up a bass in several months, and this instrument allowed me to play over 2 hours without any negative reaction from the other players. I was more than impressed and surprised, I was truly grateful. I don't know if it is possible for all of the models of this bass built to be this good, but I really believe that the one I received might be equal to the high-end models costing ten times as much. Thank you eBay, Sweetwater, and Josh.rjc55epi
I own 2 of these Sunburst and Black. I have Labella Flats on the Sunburst and Roundwounds on the Black. FIRST let me say these are VERY playable and useful in most rock/classic rock/blues/jazz situations. They are VERY different if you are a solid body/slap/funk bassist. You can do it but it won't feel the same because they weigh nearly nothing and take some getting used to as the neck is VERY small. They require ALOT of setup out of the box. On BOTH I had to dremel the bridge down alot to get the action low enough. Now they play like butta'!! You can spend the extra $$$ for the CT version but those have a sound block and don't sound quite the same, the build quality is better and the pickups are different. HOWEVER if you are on a budget you can get ALL the same stuff out of these basses. Once you get the action/trussrod/and controls sorted out, you'll be surprised at how versatile they can be. I have over 20 asst Fender/Gibson etc. basses and I've been using these 2 for almost everything and get nothing but compliments on the tone. Just remember be READY to do some serious setup work, take some meat off the bridge to get the action nice and low and you'll find it to be a keeper. Almost forgot the case looks nice in the pics and it would be better than a gig bag but don't expect anything of quality. Both of mine one latch doesn't latch and are pretty shoddily built.Acebassman

I'm not gonna get technical here, I just wanna say this Hofner lefty is a work of art ; it's absolutely beautiful! It has a rich, warm tone that is unlike most contemporary bass guitars. And because it's a hollow body, it's very light and such a pleasure to hold and play. I've wanted a '62 Hofner lefty bass for decades and I finally pulled the trigger. I'm so happy with this guitar! THANK YOU!!chestbarr

13. Hofner Contemporary Verythin Olive Green W/bigsby
Product Details:
Based on the original classic hofner very thin guitar body shape from 1960 with the body depth of only 1.25 inches. the hofner very thin was extremely popular with groups during the 1960s beat boom era. the hofner very thin ct not only captures that unique 60s sound but also has the ability to produce tones ranging from deep gutsy blues through to cutting distorted rock. hofner achieves this by fitting a center block in the body to produce more sustain, deeper tones and less feedback. includes hard-shell case.

the guitar is excellent .every thing about this guitar is that it is the design and the sound is really goodsm-5669
Well the name really says it all…VeryThin. It is approximately the same width and length of a 335 or Casino buy much thinner. This makes it fit much more comfortably, especially when sitting. The pickups sound great through my Epiphone Valve Jr cab and speaker as well as through my ZT lunch bucket amp. Finish is great and the action was well set from the factory. This would make a great addition to any collecti9n and should be seriously considered when looking for a semi-hollow body.yoda133
So far fairly happy with this purchase. The input jack initially had a loose connection causing the signal to cut out if the lead was jiggled. I've tightened the nut and the problem seems to be fixed for now. Wiring issues would require specialist attention as they are rather inaccessible.djaichai

Reviews:
I've played a few German made Hofners, always thought the build quality was hit or miss….mostly miss! I found the Hofner Contemporary series, made in China with the German hardware to be far superior in build quality, and frankly I can't tell the difference in tone. The sustain block in the Contemporary Hofner gets rid of feedback at higher volume levels, and balances the instrument so it's not a neck diver like the German models. Very comfortable and still light. I bought the Violin and the Club, super impressed with the build, both are flawless, beautiful woods, laminate, but then so are the expensive German made Hofners. The blinding work is flawless, I never found a German built as well as these Chinese bass's…just put a nice set of flatwound strings on and you have a Hofner that blows the overpriced German Hofner away. You can buy the Hofner case's direct from Germany, and even with shipping the prices were less than buying them in the USA. Don't disqualify the Chinese, they're making some quality instruments!GregS
I fell in love with the Hofner sound from many of my favorite artists and had to have one. I think the club bass is more comfortable and looks much better than the violin bass. I bought this ignition version since it would take me years to save up for a German one. The setup was perfect on this bass right out of the box! Very smooth and clean. I did a few things to mine that I think were necessary. I switched the original flat strings for a set of Labella's, sanded the bottom of the bridge for better resonance, and adjusted the intonation a bit. The biggest weakness on this bass is the pick guard. It feels pretty cheap and doesn't look great up close. I had to tighten up the mounting screws to keep it from buzzing when I play the higher strings. It still isn't perfect, and needs a third screw by the bridge pickup. I might just try putting a piece of foam under the pick guard right there. Otherwise, the bass looks and feels great and sounds greatJared
I bought a "used" white Hofner Club from ProAudioStar a few weeks ago. This was actually my third "used" Hofner from them. The other two were Hofner Shorty basses. Every "used" bass comes shipped and packed as new – every time! Both Shorty's were perfect, needing no adjustments. The white Club fretted out all along the first fret. I liked the bass enough not to return it but instead took it to my local luthier who was able to fix the neck, reset a fret or two and file and dress a fret or two. The bill came to $55 and ProAudioStar reimbursed me that money. The bass is fantastic, very close to my German Club both acoustically and when plugged in. The only real difference is the German bass has a zero fret and the Chinese one doesn't. Keep that in mind when you buy strings for the Chinese Club – it needs an extra inch fr the binding clears the nut. I plan on touring with this bass this fall. In short, thes basses are a great value and sound and play very well and ProAudioStar stands behind their products.miguel404

Reviews:
Okay this product is good. The pickup is fine and it's a great amount of fun. BUT: The fret work is terrible. Really. They stick out of the neck, and it feels like playing with sandpaper on your fingers. Terrible rash after half an hour of playing, still has not worn off. Also the action is really bad and the second fret is buzzing like crazy on mine. I need to get that fixed, but I hoped to get it working right off the box as I am travelling a lot and don't have time to take care of my guitars (which is why I took this one). Overall if the item and the object is really fun and smart and cool (you really get that "cool" factor when playing live and people notice and start laughing at your baby-sized guitar. Also includes a "cute" factor for those who are into that.) But the quality is really poor and needs quite a bit of work to be really useful without cutting your hand. Also a mild annoyance, but the headstock is not blue. I selected this one because the picture showed a blue headstock and it looked cooler than the black one. I got the black one. Minor annoyance, still an annoyance. I would not make this choice again I think, or be prepared to go to the guitar store and invest an additional 100 dollars in fret work and proper setting.pauwohre_0
I purchased this guitar a few years ago and it is my go-to ever since whether I am at home or while traveling. I have rather small hands and not very good stretch so it makes playing my other guitars rather painful after an extended period of time. I like playing this guitar because even though it has a full scale fretboard, everything just feels smaller in my hands when I play it. The width of the neck is smaller than my other guitars makes it easier for me to reach and my hands don't get as fatigued as easily. The sound is great! I only play for fun and have a small 100W amp but it sounds excellent no matter whether I'm playing metal or jazz. The only problem I have with it is there is a little bit of fret buzz when I am playing certain notes. It is not really a problem with the instrument itself. I ordered this by mail and never had it set up after it arrived. I am not comfortable doing it myself so I will have to take it into the store whenever I get the chance. I am sure that once I get it adjusted properly, I will have no problems with it. I love this little beast.Sordesco
A solid four stars. Travel guitars all have their limitations and this one is certainly no exception. But despite those limitations this instrument fulfilled its needs on a recent trip. Which is why I waited to write this review until after it was used for its intended function. It's size and weight were convenient for traveling through airports and overhead bins. It was durable despite being mashed by other carry on luggage. It was fun to play through Vox classic rock plug in amp with ear buds but difficult to stay in tune. Also used a basic leather strap with rough suede to compensate for awkward weight distribution. This kept the strap from sliding in that the guitar is neck heavy. All travel guitars like the Traveler series suffer the same malady. The Neck is straight as an arrow and the action is very good. Haven't changed the strings yet but the stop tailpiece is adjacent to the pickup which may make string changes difficult. All in all, I would not gig with this guitar but for the money it served its purpose preparing for a gig upon my return. A good value overall with some limitations.Rockinvet

Considering it’s price point this little Bass punches well above it’s weight, fit and finish is spot on with really tidy fret work. The roundwound strings fitted again are way better than I expected and makes the Bass very versatile but being a Hofner I fitted some La Bella low tension flats which really makes it sound like you’d expect a Hofner to sound, bouncy and rubbery, it really nails Macca’s Beatle tone. I only marked it down on operation because of the placement of the vol/tone knobs as they get in the way when palm muting using a pick, other than that I’m really pleased with my purchase.
