Reviews:
What a brilliant guitar and superb value package! I have owned ‘real’ Gibsons over the years and bought this outfit as a birthday gift for my granddaughter who is learning to play. She has had a fender acoustic for a couple of years and now wants her own electric guitar. I chose this outfit as having previously owned one in the past I like Epiphone guitars. Before giving it to her I thought it best to check it over and set it up but there was nothing to do really, after tuning this guitar was perfectly playable right out the box! The feel, balance and weight is very like my Gibson and the sound is superb. The amp is excellent and packs enough punch to put a smile on your face too. She’s delighted with the built in tuner as well as the other essentials included in the outfit. What’s not to like? I can’t find a better value package!W O.
My original review still stands, but I made cosmetic-only upgrades for less than an average couple's meal at a casual restaurant that makes this look much, much more expensive. No tuner, pickup or pot swaps. Replaced black plastic parts with cream, added cream pickguard, replaced chrome tuner knobs with Klausen-style ivory-look knobs. Installed chrome pickup covers. Replaced speed knobs with gold top-hats.Easily done to make this look like a proper Les Paul. I'm happy with the looks for the little extra money spent.Steve
As the song says: "I'm a Sucker for a Cheap Guitar". I own over 30 – some cheap, some not so cheap. This one arrived perfectly set up: low action, no buzzing, no sharp fret edges, easy to play – amazing for a guitar in this price range. Although not great, the pickups even sounded acceptable. It's heavy, which to me means good, though not as heavy as my Gibson. It's OK-looking, but needed something to enhance it – a pickguard. I added one and it looks much better – more expensive. Instead of cutting off part of the guard to accommodate the knob as I've seen some others do, I drilled a hole big enough for the nut on the body underneath the knob to fit through the guard (see photos). Since the guard isn't much thicker than the nut, it allowed the guard to fit flush with the body and the knob to turn without any restriction of motion, and the pickguard is not butchered. It's a very clean look – like it came that way – not modified. So, I am pleased with this instrument, and would recommend it to anyone for any purpose: especially beginners to play or someone like me who just collects cheap guitars to hang on the wall of their studiio.Steve

If you are into wierd, Japaneese guitars, this book is for you. The author goes through the history of each Japanese factory, then shows the various names and models they produced, as well as old advertising. Most are ugly cool while some are just laughable but all are really intreging and wonderful to see. Jusat wish some of the pictures were a bit larger, butoveral the book is wonderful, and I hope it spawns more books like it.kyzivatfam2012

Reviews:
I love this Casino. I knew I wanted a P-90, and I really wanted a fully hollow body. I wanted to see if I could replicate a I've been agonizing over the purchase for months, looking for every possible solution, and was almost ready to pull the trigger on the Epi USA version, and after MUCH research, finally decided to go with the regular Epiphone. The construction, from everything I read, is excellent, and I knew that if necessary, I could always switch out the pups. Well, I can't say enough about how good this guitar is! I am extremely fussy on setups (I do setups on my own guitars and for other people) and this thing was ready to play right out of the box! I literally didn't touch a thing except to tune it up. I won't even have to dress the frets. I may touch them up just a bit (again, I'm really fussy) but they feel better than most guitars that cost three times as much. It is really beautiful. I love the vintage sunburst. The finish is flawless. Now for the important part – it plays like a dream. The neck profile is extremely comfortable. I can move up and down the neck as fluidly as on any guitar I own. And the sound! I was amazed at how present it is, even before plugging it in. I see this little sweetheart spending a lot of evenings on the couch with me. Soft enough not to overly bother my wife, but again – very present. Plugged in – well lets just say I won't be replacing these pups. It is exactly the sound I was hoping for. I'm no Grant Green, but I can certainly understand why he loved this guitar. Would I recommend it? Heck yeah! Country? Check. Classic rock? Check. Rockabilly, surf, blues and even jazz? Check, check, check, and check.Jess
This thing is easily worth 4 times the price. The build quality is impeccable. The binding is perfectly flush, the finish is beautiful and evenly applied and the intonation was extremely close out of the box (I only had to move the G string saddle back a bit to set it, all the other strings were perfect). The headstock has a nice molded profile to the sides – this is something I haven't seen on other Epiphone guitars. The PRO p90 pickups are fantastic. I have 11 other electrics from an epi 335 to a Gibson Les Paul Traditional to modded teles and strats and I never could quite find that classic clear tone with a thick rich drive when you dig into it that I've been looking for – this Casino has that sound! Every website/listing likes to talk about the Beatles… that comparison doesn't speak to what this guitar is capable of. This is more in line with Gary Clark Jr., The Black Crowes, Jack White and The Allman Brothers Band sounds. Think rich, bluesy rock. It's much cooler than "the Beatles guitar". Plug this sucker into a Vox and you're in business. The C shape neck is very comfortable- it has a flat back with rounded sides. Plus, with the satin finish your hand moves more freely up and down the neck. It's nice to play unplugged too, it's fully hollow so it plays/sounds like a quieter acoustic unplugged. The knobs/pots are really cool looking and work great with no scratching. They have even adjustments – no quick falls after a certain number like you see with others in this price range. They have a cool old school tab to show where you are on the dial (no pictures show this little detail). All in all – super cool vintage vibe, sweet clean tone with a fun roaring bite on the gain – excellent guitar.
Had the money to buy any guitar in the shop. Liked the looks of the SG, worn ebony with rosewood fingerboard and the Gibson speed knobs. Having only played guitars with 9.5 radius, I found the 14 radius was better for bar chords. The craftsmanship is excellent, can find no flaws the body or neck. The truss rod was out of adjustment, considerable back-bow. I fixed that, and set the action low. The intonation was spot on. Frets were polished with no sharp edges. I plan to upgrade the cheap electronics with new pots. As for the pickups, they sound ok. Since I use a modeling amp, not a big issue for me. The nut is a GraphTech synthetic bone. Nice touch for an inexpensive guitar, since i do not like changing them out…too much risk of damage. I have fender Strat and Tele, but have not put this down since purchasing it. Once I upgrade the electronics, this will be a very solid guitar.Jeff

Reviews:
I am both surprised and please with this guitar I purchased this guitar at GC Nashville after returning a Gibson Les Paul Classic that I bought online. (lesson learned, don't buy from GC online.) The staff there were great and had no issues with me returning a $2200 guitar that I bought online. Even more supportive in helping me pick out a much less expensive guitar. Great people. This Epiphone is awesome. The fit and finish are great. The action is low and no buzz. The tone is great and It is lighter and easier to handle than the Gibson . The best part is it cost a third of the one I returned. I really wanted a Gibson but I am so glad I picked up this Epiphone. A word of caution. I looked at and played several guitars at GC before choosing this one. I even played a couple of other Epiphone Les Paul Customs. No two were the same. One had razors for frets, one had an action you could drive a truck under and this one was just right. Go in an play them before buying.Mike
I bought one on a whim cause I'm a sucker for SIlverbursts, then when I got it was so blown away by it I ordered a second to do a little modifying on. I own multiple high end guitars from PRS, Gibson, Ibanez, Shecter and ESP and some lower end fiddles from LTD and Epiphone. Up until this point I wouldnt say Epiphone was a bad guitar company but they were not on par with other brands in the same price range. Without a doubt you would need to replace the nut, do fret work, and most likely change out the electronics and sometimes even the tuners. My Slash Rosso Corso needed tuners, nut and fret work to make it a solid guitar. My Bjorn Gelotte custom needed frets and nut. Out of the box these 2 guitars need NOTHING!! They came setup perfectly fine for most players but they were not to my liking. After adjusting the neck, the action, the tailpiece and then finally the pickup height and pole pieces these 2 guitars are simply amazing and have become the first one I reach for. The stock pickups are really good but sensitive to height. The action is right there with my Les Paul Standard. One needed a little lube on the nut as the G string was pining. The resonance that translates through the bodies of these guitars is killer making them solid rock machines. Epiphone has really knocked it out of the park with this model. They sound exactly how a rocking Gibson Les Paul should. Also as soon as I grabbed the neck it immediately felt like my old 1986 Gibson LP Custom Silverburst and Ive never had another guitar, Gibson or otherwise, feel as good. If you're thinking about this guitar, buy it, its limited and its that good!Shane
This is my second 6 string electric, and I couldn't be HAPPIER with it! My first guitar is an entry level Epiphone SG Special that was a couple hundred bucks back in the day. It got the job done…good frets, good tune, good everything. I recently decided to step it up and get a "mid-range" guitar but still not break the bank with an Epiphone. And I'm not calling Epiphone cheap…they are just more in my price range when compared to Gibsons. Stepping it up is the right description for this guitar!! It is AMAZING! The feel, the tone, the look! It sounds great and feels good in the hands too. I especially love the Silverburst color!! The main reason I wanted this specific guitar. It's Adam Jones from TooL color scheme finish but on an epiphone! They are coming out with his own model of epiphone, but I'm impatient lol. Looks are important to picking out a guitar as much as sound! The inlays on the fretboard look beautiful. The pick guard and finish are beautiful, the trim/binding around the guitar… this guitar has reignited my passion for playing! As of this writing, I have no complaints! Excellent guitar!Matt
6. Fender Stories Collection Eric Johnson 1954 Virginia Stratocaster 2-Color Sunburst
Product Details:
Plays and sounds amazing. weight is approx 7lbs 6oz. this appears to be a pretty light one as i've read that because of the sassafras bodies, the weights of this model are usually in the 8+lb range. it sounds and feels as good as it looks. i've had other eric johnson models and there is certainly something special and unique about these. not sure if the lead pickup cover is the original – but i have confirmed that all the electronics are correct for this model. also, the second position is wired out of phase for eric johnson's koto tone as it comes from the factory. there is a very small mark (pictured) that i had to angle into the light to see. also a few light finish scratches that i couldn't photograph as they wouldn't show. i've seen many new guitars hanging in music stores that don't look as nice.

Reviews:
I've owned several Strats over the years, including a 1968 (my first real guitar) and a Custom shop with Ibarra pickups. The Eric Johnson is as good or better for me than any of them. I play mainly blues-based classic rock, Hendrix, Clapton, Zeppelin, Beatles, etc. I've had this white-blonde with maple fingerboard for a little over two months at this writing. The larger-than-usual neck is outstanding–much like a Custom shop. Although the 12" radius isn't as comfortable for chording as the standard, rounder 9.5", it provides a more consistent feel for fast playing, runs, etc., imo, because my fingers don't need to adjust to the larger curvature. It's like a classical guitar in that respect. The pickups with their staggered pole pieces sound lovely–almost vintage sounding with loads of classic character. The neck position is honky, midrangy, not smooth like normal Strats, so it cuts. Where I might have preferred the neck position on other Strats, I prefer the 4th position on this one, which has the fat smoothness appropriate for mellower rock rhythm or fills. The middle pickup (without tone control) is louder, and a great go-to for a quick volume and tone change for solos. 2nd position is quacky and biting, great for distorted solos that cut, and the 1st (bridge) position is good for higher gain leads (with the tone rolled back a bit) or for twangy country licks. I've never much liked the bridge pickup on Strats, but this one is less harsh than usual, and with the tone rolled back to 5 or 6 is definitely usable. I'm leaving the tremolo with five springs on, flat to the body for tuning stability; but I do miss being able to whammy in both directions rather than just downward. The staggered tuners undoubtedly help maintain tension, and a bounce on the whammy bar resets intonation pretty well, though not perfectly (this could be due to other factors such as the nut, string gauge, etc.), so I don't use it much. I'm using NYXL9544 (the 9.5 "half-size" gauge).Tanuki
Very nice guitar that is era correct. Has flash coat nitrocellulose finish like original 50's strats that is thinner than other model ej strats. Even has correct '54 patent pending stamped saddles and smoothed headstock corners. These are slightly heavier than alder body EJ strats and doesn't have as deep of contours but is correct for '54 models. Neck is dead on with '54 profile, very slightly larger than previous models. It is listed that it has quarter sawn neck but mine isn't, it is more between flat and rift sawn like original '54. You can tell that fender went through some effort, likely from ej's request, to make these as close as possible to original'54 specs. Only non '54 items are pickups and Bakelite knobs but "Virginia" had these changed out.N. Collins
Beautiful white blonde finish, silky smooth neck finish. The soft V is quite round and is a robust neck, but the V keeps it from being ball bat. If you really like the "Modern C" you may find the neck a little large. It's certainly comfortable to play, and I like it a great deal, even though most of my other guitars are modern C's or similar. So, maybe you won't. I've found that I like larger necks more the longer I play, and the resonance of this neck is just a great feeling. Hard to explain, but it seems more alive than most strats I've played. Some folks have found the neck sticky, but I didn't think that at all. Plays amazing right out of the gate. Intonation was perfect out of the box and setup was just fine, although I may play with it a little for my personal preferences. Tuning stability is good. Came with all of the springs installed on the bridge, so the trem bar was not even usable, but with one spring removed, it allows the trem to be functional while still keeping the bridge hard against the body for better resonance and stability. Pickups are amazing. I have some strats with Texas specials and I've had just about every pickup out there, but these are just perfect. Sounds like a strat should sound, and the "in-between" positions are more usable and pleasing that on any other strat I've ever played. Volume knob reacts perfectly and really changes presence and drive in a predictable fashion. Break up is sweet, and can get quite crunchy on the bidge. Neck is just a perfect blues tone with lots of options to shape character with volume and tone. The treeless headstock is nice…I've had better tuning stability for my plain strings than other strats, and I didn't find the plain strings dead or lacking in any way. This is certainly my new favorite guitar. I don't really know how much having no trem pocket cover on the back of the guitar helps tone, and it kind of looks unfinished without it, but I don't know that I'll bother to add one. Case is great, also.DJ

Overall: I was excited to receive this guitar as it was on back order I got the black and yellow bumblebee. After receiving it I made some adjustments to the tremolo and found that the spring cavity was bare wood / looked like it was chisel out with a screwdriver and it was not routed or CNC'd flat. Worse than that the wood under the Floyd rose was cracked and the finish was cracked as well. Basswood is a very light and soft wood so I am guessing the trem was pushed back during shipment or during setup at the factory and not seen by the staff as it is only visible when you remove the Floyd. I am a woodworker and beginning luthier so I corrected these issues myself and reinforced the thin section under the bridge with a custom fitted piece of maple and routed out the trem cavity so it is flat and sprayed the trem pocket with flat black paint looks like it should have when it left the factory now. I know I probably should have sent it back but overall I really like the guitar and I think Eddie would approve of my work.Douglas
This guitar has my favorite neck. The fretwork is amazing and the neck plays itself. This surprised me coming from fat Les Paul necks. Super easy to play, which, in turn, makes you sound better. I was very impressed with the sound and the functionality of the electronics. I’m a big Van Halen fan but don’t play a whole lot of it and this guitar sounds great for all kinds of other stuff, so long as you’re playing hard rock/early metal. Cleans up great with the volume knob but let’s be real – with no neck pickup, cleans aren’t really what you’re going for. Out of the box, was not intimated at all and there were a couple of paint dings and imperfections. Floyd also didn’t hold tune super well but with a solid setup and lubing up the fine tuners, it plays and sounds great. I had one of these a couple of years back and sold it foolishly to fund other purchases but hear I am, back again after purchasing again. It really is an awesome guitar and I am partial to the b/w color scheme with the Strat-style input jack. My Les Paul Custom is better quality but this guitar honestly sounds as good or better for a third of the price. And this guitar makes you a better player and you realize how amazing of a guitarist Eddie was considering how basic and simple this guitar is. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.Arpeggio5150
Eddie inspired so many folks to pick up the guitar. This is my second EVH model and I am amazed by this guitar every time I play it. This model was on my bucket list of guitars and when it went on sale at Adorama, I had to snap it up. It came perfectly setup from the EVH factory and the only thing needed to be done was to tune it properly. The D-Tuna is great to switch to drop D tunings. The Frankenstrat plays like a dream. The fretboard is like butter and the the action is ideal for playing hard rock and metal. The pickup gives you an excellent approximation of Eddie's brown sound. I am ecstatic with my purchase and this guitar is the perfect homage to the master. RIP Eddie!Tomas

What can you say? Epiphone has always made a good guitar, even before they became part of the Gibson family. The Epiphone SG and Les Paul models are top notch guitars, and are a great value for the price. So if you're looking for a good starter electric guitar, I recommend Epiphone all the way.krimzo_96
Great guitar, looks good, plays quite easily. Barely had to tweak it at all. A lot more economical than a Gibson(most don't realize it isn't.) I am very happy with this guitar and would recommend it to anyone who wants quality on a budget.richa.schau
I am a professional musician and play 5 days a week — I play my Epiphone SG full time. I don't have to take my Gibson 335, Les Paul, SG or Tele. This guitar holds it's own with any of them. I've been a player for 50 years. Highly recommend…musiclane301
9. The Guitar: Tracing The Grain Back To The Tree [Book]

Product Details:
Guitars inspire cult-like devotion: an aficionado can tell you precisely when and where their favorite instrument was made, the wood it is made from, and that wood’s unique effect on the instrument’s sound. in the guitar, chris gibson and andrew warren follow that fascination around the globe as they trace guitars all the way back to the tree. the authors take us to guitar factories, port cities, log booms, remote sawmills, indigenous lands, and distant rainforests, on a quest for behind-the-scenes stories and insights into how guitars are made, where the much-cherished guitar timbers ultimately come from, and the people and skills that craft those timbers along the way. gibson and warren interview hundreds of people to give us a first-hand account of the ins and outs of production methods, timber milling, and forest custodianship in diverse corners of the world, including the pacific northwest, madagascar, spain, brazil, germany, japan, china, hawaii, and australia. they unlock surprising insights into longer arcs of world history: on the human exploitation of nature, colonialism, industrial capitalism, cultural tensions, and seismic upheavals. but the authors also strike a hopeful note, offering a parable of wider resonance—of the incredible but underappreciated skill and care that goes into growing forests and felling trees, milling timber, and making enchanting musical instruments, set against the human tendency to reform our use (and abuse) of natural resources only when it may be too late. the guitar promises to resonate with anyone who has ever fallen in love with a guitar.

I look at guitars in a completely different way now. This book is about so much more than guitars: it traverses the geo-political and climate change; the move from old, skill-based construction methods to modern, automated processes and the tension that exists between them. Guitar making, it seems, will always have a foot in both camps, to some degree. So many of the fascinating people in the book are conflicted about what they do. Guitars have specific needs, mostly old-growth and/or rare timbers. The idea that a tree that was a seedling before Christopher Columbus was born is to be felled to provide soundboards for thousands of guitars is hard to stomach, no matter how important music is to you. Chris Gibson and Andrew Warren have done a thorough job on researching this book. I'm envious of the places they've been, and the trees that they've see. You don't have to be a guitarist to find this book fascinating. That said, I'm a drummer, so I just looked at the pictures and intuited the above.AJ

This book was a very good read. It has lots of great information about some rather obscure guitar manufacturers that I knew little of before reading the book. However on some of the companies that I happen to know lots of information about (before reading this book, I noticed some incorrect information in print here. In particular the information about Peavey guitars. Despite this I still highly recommend it to any guitar geek out there.nickc35

Reviews:
Sound: The sound is that classic Kramer sound heard on all those killer 80's records. No other guitar sounds like a Kramer. Features: Everything is useful on this guitar. I love how simple it is. Two humbuckers, 2 volumes, one tone and a Floyd Rose. Rock solid tuning. There's a coil tap, but I rarely use that kind of feature. It does sound great when engaged. Ease of Use: It's super easy to get a great sound. Plug it into an awesome amp and you're in business. Quality: This guitar is built like a tank. Solid maple all around. It's a bit on the heavier side. I mean "guitar heavy". 8 pounds isn't heavy on it's own, but y'all will understand. Value: This guitar is a steal for the price. It should be around 1200 bucks, but it's not. Manufacturer Support: I have dealt with Gibson in the past. It works out if you're not jerky with them. Don't Gibson snob them and they won't Gibson snob you lol. The Wow Factor: I'm a huge 80's shred lover. I love 80's music and consider it one of the better times for rock/metal. This guitar embodies all of that. Overall: What a guitar! It was definitely worth searching around for. A lot of people do not have this bad boy in stock currently and I saw that zZounds had a customer return! I snatched it right up and now I'm in love with this thing. I have other Kramer Pacers from different eras. Kramer Kramers lol and Gibson Kramers. I gotta say, they nailed the replication of the original 83 Pacer Imperial. The neck is super fast, the finish of course is incredible, and it has that classic Kramer sound. I highly recommend buying this if you are a shredder or super duper lead guitar player. Another thing that's great is that I can leave my vintage Kramer's at home and play the new ones and be just as satisfied. Tremendous guitar! Talk to zZounds and get one today. They are the BEST company to deal with. Thanks again guys!Brad
Well, I must say, I bought this thinking, ok, van Halen all the way, but I'm glad it's not that way really. I love vh to death but I have played and own wolfgangs and this is a versatile breath of fresh air really. First, the trem is set to float. Vh heresy! But it's not bad at all. You can do Jeff beck, satriani, and believe it or not, strat stuff like, gilmour, clapton, and any strat stuff you may enjoy because the coils split and you can roll off the volume and get those sounds too. And the fret board feels like a strat because it's all maple with smaller frets. Yes, fender style medium jumbo frets. And a 12 inch radius which means some curve, but not extremely flat either. I hate when a guitar frets out, and this is like a gibson or even an eric Johnson shape, but remember no lacquer! Just a satin, or bare wood feel. It's not a thin neck like ibanez! It's classic, it's capable of vh too, just not exact because of the floating trem and the Duncan's may not be vh's preference, but it still does pretty good. Maple body is a little heavey, bit if George lynch can do it…. It's not that bad, really. Tone is worth it. All quality. Korean, yes. So what??? I have american made too…quality as well. Plus I'm thinking the neck looks quarter sawn to me. Only real down side was I thought it came with a hard case, but mine did not. Had to order separately and at this point it was hard to find. Awesome emerald finish too. I dont know what kramer's future is, but I'm glad to own this even though I used to hate kramer because in the late 80's I got kramer's ending junk. That's ok, it's all good now…R. Phillips
I love this guitar. The simplicity and tone is just in your face and smooth! I purchased it about a week ago and overnighted it to my office. When I received it I was BLOW AWAY!!! To be honest, the set up was a little eh, but hey it had to travel and it's summer so I'll give it a pass. Not to mention, most new guitars don't exactly have the set up you want anyways. Once I got it home and set it up this baby is a keeper! The neck is just like my 83 Pacer Imperial that I sold many years ago like a total Knucklehead. The reason for 4 1/2 out of 5 stars is that I ran into one little issue with the top mound Floyd nut. Whoever put it on in the factory must of really eaten their Wheaties that morning because the screws mounting the nut to the neck were completely sheared off! For me this is not a big problem because I was a luthier at one point in life. Tedious, pain in the neck fix, but quick enough. Now this baby will be rockin' with me this weekend! As always, I'd like to thank Ryan. He really is an awesome sales engineer. He always works with me and provides beyond excellent service. If you're thinking about buying this guitar get on the waiting list and when they're in stock again, pull the trigger!

This guitar is great for any evh collector and for the price its well worth it. Sounds great plays great highly recommend it!!robz25
Never before have I had an axe that had ZERO issues. The nut is Perfect (the E Strings(two outside strings) are perfectly measured from the sides of the fretboard. The floydrose stays in tune when you use it, the D-tuna is great, and if you break a string(at least a high E so far) there is no issue just keep playing because you are still in tune. One pick up is great because of all that space to not bang your pick on anything. The action is super low, and with 009's you are all set. Nice bridge humbucker and cleans up very well. The neck is great with no finish and overtime your own oils condition the wood(great idea EVH). Best of all no floating trem, Yay!surf_ping
Overall: Placed my order for the EVH EVH Frankie Red White and Black striped guitar, Friday 7-30-21 and received it a day earlier than expected Tuesday 8-3-21. This guitar exceeds all expectations for the price. If you know how to properly set a Floyd Rose style temolo, which it tedious in it's own right, it will consistently stay in tune after excessive abuse. The EVH Wolfgang pickup brings out the harmonics like you've never heard from any other pickup. I highly recommend this guitar for all Eddie Van Halen fans. You will not be disappointed!!!!Steve
13. Play It Loud: An Epic History Of The Style, Sound, And Revolution Of The Electric Guitar [Book]

Product Details:
The inspiration for the play it loud exhibition at the metropolitan museum of art"every guitar player will want to read this book twice. and even the casual music fan will find a thrilling narrative that weaves together cultural history, musical history, race, politics, business case studies, advertising, and technological discovery." —daniel levitin, wall street journalfor generations the electric guitar has been an international symbol of freedom, danger, rebellion, and hedonism. in play it loud, veteran music journalists brad tolinski and alan di perna bring the history of this iconic instrument to roaring life. it's a story of inventors and iconoclasts, of scam artists, prodigies, and mythologizers as varied and original as the instruments they spawned.play it loud uses twelve landmark guitars—each of them artistic milestones in their own right—to illustrate the conflict and passion the instruments have inspired. it introduces leo fender, a man who couldn't play a note but whose innovations helped transform the guitar into the explosive sound machine it is today. some of the most significant social movements of the twentieth century are indebted to the guitar: it was an essential element in the fight for racial equality in the entertainment industry; a mirror to the rise of the teenager as social force; a linchpin of punk's sound and ethos. and today the guitar has come full circle, with contemporary titans such as jack white of the white stripes, annie clark (aka st. vincent), and dan auerbach of the black keys bringing some of the earliest electric guitar forms back to the limelight.featuring interviews with les paul, keith richards, carlos santana, eddie van halen, steve vai, and dozens more players and creators, play it loud is the story of how a band of innovators transformed an idea into a revolution.

Every electric guitar player needs to buy and read this book because it gives the complete history of the electric guitar. You won't regret reading this book.Paul
This is an outstanding book that's well written in a compelling style. A very personable history about the origins of how the guitar as we know it today became electrically amplified. The authors have obviously done extensive factual research and share a great deal of background on both the people who were pivotal in creating and improving the instrument, as well as highlighting the many musicians that inspired the industry, market, music and use of the electric guitar-steelydan72

Reviews:
This guitar is a breath of fresh air, something different from my collection of Strats, Les Pauls, Wilshires, etc. I love the looks and the sounds even better. The humbucker modes are strong and tasteful, the single coils are not quite a Strat but different enough to provide a great alternative sound. The mix of both provide lots of options. I have small hands and always went for thin necks especially the Gibson trim tapers but this thicker neck actually feels and plays great. I am amazed by the quality of modern guitars and the success of American builders who provide less expensive options through foreign manufacturing. We are living in the golden era of guitars – Thanks PRS!
I want to start by saying I did not get it from GC. I got it from another site where they had a charcoal option. This is a review on the guitar and not the supplier. They say a good guitar isn't necessary how it looks. I also read a lot about "a PRS sounds somewhere between a Les Paul and a Strat." For some reason people hold these sounds as the "gold standard" for musical guitar tone. Now I don't know about that either. What I can tell you is that what makes this a good guitar is how inspiring it is and how creative it's making me play. I don't know how to describe it- maybe a more experience person can weigh in (I've been playing on and off for a few years) but I seem so much more creative in my playing when I'm jamming with this as compared to my Gibson SG standard or Fender Player. At the end of the day, you want a guitar that not only sounds great (which this absolutely does) but also feels great and inspires you to play out of your norm. It does not have as much rock power when distorted when compared to my SG, so if you're looking for a rock heavy guitar, I don't know if this is for you. But it sounds incredible clean (which is how I mostly play). My Player sounds great clean too, but I love the wider and thicker neck profile it has compared to my strat (I got big gorilla hands so I like a chunkier neck). I've only had this for 2 weeks but it's become my grab guitar.Robbie A
I was looking for an entry level guitar that was priced right and built well. First of all, how can you go wrong with this beautiful style. It is also very light and wont leave you with back pain after a couple hours of riffing. Tuning keys are solid without any dead spots and dont slip. The guitar stays in tune very well with only slight adjustment needed due to temperature changes. Pick up selector is smooth and not notchy. Havent used the whammy bar and have been playing with studio headphones, so sound is subjective, but as someone that has been playing several instruments for 30 years, I like to think I have a good ear. All in all a great purchase decision.oxouk

Reviews:
I missed getting a Brian May signature Red Special when it came out a few years ago, so I wanted to make sure I got one of these new tribute guitars before the limited supply dried up. Overall, I am very happy with it; it's actually a lot of guitar for one in its price range. Comes with a so-so soft gig bag, whammy bar, Allen wrenches and a lint free polishing cloth. No documentation included, but if you understand his switching configuration and use of gain and volume on a VOX tube amp, you can easily achieve authentic Red Special tones as recorded throughout Queen's history. The pickups are incredible; I can achieve "bell like" chimes and real dirty rhythms. Great Grover tuners and beautiful binding on the body. I love the thick, chunky baseball bat of a neck! My fingers are not near as long and thin as on Brian's large hands, but I love the feel and the way I'm able to perform perfect bends, slides and vibratos. The only three (very minor) negative comments I have about this guitar are, 1) cheap plastic throughout ("wavy"), 2) cheap control knobs that don't fit the pots properly (why didn't they use solid shaft pots!?) – and with poorly painted markers in red paint (just plain sloppy workmanship), and 3) I wish the back plate was subset into the body – it sticks out and just looks awful. Aside from these very MINOR complaints, this South Korean manufactured tribute guitar is a keeper, and I have been enjoying it very much. I think you will too.Commish
I wrote a review complaining about the pickups. Because there is only one volume control the pickups have to be balanced to work together by adjusting the height of each pickup so they complement each other when more than one pickup is selected. Even which side is slightly higher is important to give you the sound that you like. Upon closer inspection I found the pickups were not balanced. Far from it. After adjusting them to my tastes I'm very happy with the pickups. I apologize for the premature complaint. Over all this is a fine guitar and I highly recommend it.Rick
Please note : Be careful reading the comments. Some are VERY old and refer to a previous version of this guitar. I just got mine on May 16th. This guitar is very solidly built and the quality is great ! There are several quirks to it so although it may take a little while to get used to it, but it will be worth it. Even though it's made out of a chambered piece of mahogany, it has some nice weight to it. The neck is very fat (fatter than a '50s Les Paul) yet the scale is only 24". And the entire guitar is short but very wide (about 15"). Also, each of the 3 pickups have their own on/off switch and in/out phase switch. This gives you 24 possible choices (not including how your amp is set) to get "your" sound. The locking Grover tuners and Wilkinson vibrato work great. The adjustment screw (to set the arm tension) on the Wilkinson is hidden. You have to push down on the arm completely so that the back of the bridge rises off the body. Then you can get to the adjustment screw (on the right side under the bridge) with the included allen key. A gig bag is included but I always buy hardshell cases for all of my guitars. If you also plan on getting a hardshell case, be aware of the width.Igmar
