I've been using these string winders since they came with the name Scotty's on them. Their virtually identical in every way except for the plastic colors and name. They work great and their very affordable. There's no reason why a guitar player can't have several of these around. These strings are probably the closest thing to vintage strings available if you are into that old school 50s jazz sound. They are a bit stout for my hands even when set low, but no question they have great tone. Big and deep with a nice brightness to them. Check out some old records to hear that sound. Many jazzers like Mundell Lowe, Barry Galbraith and George Barnes were not playing the dark and rolled off sort of sound we associate with jazz now. These strings remind me of those aforementioned sounds the most. They aren't perfectly polished smooth but I think that is part of their sound.Aaron
These flat wound strings are pretty light as far as flats go but I really like them. I put them on one of my Fender Jaguars and I love the tone. I will say you should probably stretch these a good bit before regularly playing them but either way they're great and are very good quality as expected with Pyramid strings. For my jag, it really mellowed that super sharp brightness just enough to where I like it. I mostly play the Jag on the neck pickup anyways.Antonio

They sound the closest to uncoated strings as I have been able to find(i.e. less like your playing underwater or with a sock over them). The major downside is that they are also the least smooth and produce the loudest string noise on slides. If D'Addario finds a way to make them smoother they will be my first choice.
They sound pretty good for a coated string, and presumably last a long time. But the winding is very coarse and chunky and feels rough to your fingers compared to e.g. uncoated EJ16's of the same gauge, perhaps because of the coating getting in the way, and these strings are *extremely* noisy to do any kind of slide work with or to do moving bar chords with. Combined with the expense, I am not going to buy these again, there simply has to be something that both lasts a long time and doesn't feel/sound so rough when moving around on the fretboard.Badtux-QwGHT

The D'Addario Guitar Pro Winder not Only cuts the strings on your guitar. It's actually a Three in One tool. It shipped in a very timely manner. The packaging it came in was tied securely to a piece of cardboard. The winder did fit the pegs. However, the fit wasn't entirely secure. The peg shifted considerably while trying to wind making it a little difficult to to turn. The bridge pin puller worked perfectly and smoothly, easily pulling all the bridge pins neatly off. The tool itself is Extremely lightweight which is always a bonus. However, when opening the handles to be able to cut the guitar string they stuck together and made it rather difficult to fully open and extend. It did cut through the guitar string, although it did take a little more force then I would have liked it to. It sent the guitar sing flying across my counter. I didn't like the fact that there was a little piece of metal shaving left on the counter after cutting the string. Overall, the Guitar Pro- Winder did do exactly as it claimed. I don't think it would hold up to constant use. However, for occasional use and at it's asking price I believe it's a good deal.Kay

Ernie Ball produces excellent strings, most people know. These strings are no exception. They sound beautiful, on my dreadnought. Low end is nice and warm. While the high end sounds crisp. Perhaps what I don't like, is they loose their brightness in about a month (of course depending on how much you play). And I know they will keep sound if you clean them. But their price is comparable to their string life. And they don't break easily. I will keep using these sets for as long as they make them. And I would recommend them to any player.litlmooserichard
These are just fantastic strings. They're warm even in the lighter gauges, they break-in quickly, and stay stable and consistent for quite a long time. At this price point, I don't think their quality can be beaten. The way I see it is this: Everyone who plays acoustic has "that sound" that they're always trying to replicate. I bought the low tension strings for my 2003 Martin D18 GE. I have been playing them for only a short time but there is a difference in the feel – better- and the balance that I really like. Time will tell how long they last. I bought 3 sets so that I could give them a fair test over a long period.

I’ve used these Santa Cruz Mid Tensions for 4 string changes now on both my D18 and D35 and I continue to be impressed.
