Know your numbers and save your gas money and fees for buying gear! Glad I checked it out because I live 50 miles from the nearest music store. This is the 3rd action gauge I've purchased, after returning the first two because they were inaccurate. This gauge is accurate and feels solid. My only gripe is what appears to be a typo on the back of the gauge, 'guitar' is spelt 'giutar' three times. The measurements are also etched into the steel, unlike the other gauges where they were printed on. 10 seems steep for a bit it steel with some measurements etched into it, but after trying to cheap out and getting a faulty gauge twice I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this.axdx9x

I have a couple of these d'Addario gauges and they are accurate and easy to use. Some of the cheaper brands that you find on the internet often have rulers that do not line up with the edges or the printed lines are not clear or straight. I've never had problems with d'Addario.Ken

I was very excited to see and play a highly reviewed 12 string that costs pennies compared to my 12 string Takamine, Yamaha and Ibanez. Once I got through the box I saw the guitar had the look of some cheap pressed wood. The sound was as weak as a cup of Finnish coffee. The darn thing couldn't stay in tune to save mine or its life. How this guitar gets rated so highly MUST be a result of fake reviewers OR I simply got the ONE Rogue 12 string that seemed to be made by the Fisher-Price Company. This is NOT a musical instrument. It IS an instrument to make noise with. My edition was not worthy of the effort one has to put forward to learn and play guitar. One must have to have an instrument meet the musician at least half-way. With this "musical" instrument, you have to cross the block, pick the guitar up and fight against it to produce close to a tone that sounds musical. Best to buy a used good name 12 string guitar. Or save your pennies and get a Takamine or Yamaha. The latter will be excellent and cost in the $350 range. But a Yamaha will play forever and stay in tune. I recommend my Yamaha over my ash Ibanez. The former just has a fuller tone. If possible save for the Takamine which is on another guitar plane altogether. But don't buy a guitar based on price and/or name. I've discovered many of the friends I play with can't tell if their singing and/or playing is in tune!!. And yet, they own $5,000 MARTIN GUITARS!! Haha. Quite simply a waste of money. Be like me buying a red-green "masterpiece" oil painting, as I'm red-green color blind. But I DO have a good ear and this Rogue of a guitar is worthy of no one's money or effort. M.F. has many more-though more expensive-options that will bring the performer YEARS if not DECADES of playing happiness. Only misery lies in a 12 string Rogue guitar. Avoid.muskoxmike

Purchased this around December hoping to get my kids into it. As usually happens, it ended up being much more of a display use. I would imagine it was picked up about 12 times max total. It sat on display being ignored primarily. Still, by mid-June (in under 6 months) the bridge has warped and started to detach from the main guitar. I noticed this as I walked past it. The glue did not hold. Surprise though, because you can't just pull up a website for Rogue. I called Guitar Center for help to contact the manufacturer as this should be covered under their warranty. Guitar cCenter took my information and said they would forward it to their "contact" for the company and I should receive a response in 3-5 business days. It's been a few weeks now and I'm not impressed. No one called me back, they wouldn't simply give me an 800 number to call to handle it myself, and I still have no solution and no idea who to contact in order to make a claim on the manufacturer warranty. I am more than disappointed with Guitar Center's negligence to truly stand behind a beginner product they seem to offer a great deal of.Amanda V.

I'm so impressed by my RD 90. I think some reviewers are hesitant to give it the praise it deserves because it is an inexpensive guitar. I did a little work to lower the action and now it is perfect. Humidity and temperature changes cause it to need occasional tuning, no different that my other two acoustics. It has a full, rich tone. It plays easily. It makes me feel like I got a real bargain; I don't know how they turn a profit at this price.Charles

I've been a D'addario guy for a long time, and use them on all my guitars. I like the phosphor bronze tone on my acoustics, and use the extra lights because I have hand and finger joint issues. Actually 10s are pretty heavy for me, I use 8s on my electrics. Anyway, they sound great, are easy to play and have always been reliable for me.James

For years I refused to replace one of the low E machines on my Guild 12-string, as much on principle as anything else. I could only find a full set when I only needed one. The folks at Sam Ash knew my feeling and enthusiastically referred me back to the shop. Not only did I get a single machine, the price was more than right. A friend of mine put light gauge electric strings on his acoustic guitar so it would be easier to play. I did like the feel but the sound was too thin so when I came across the Extra Light D'Addario's for acoustics I was excited to try them. My preferred style of playing an acoustic has recently become almost all finger-picking without finger picks. I tried them on my vintage classic dreadnought Yamaha F335ii and they sound good with a little less low end and a little more thin high end which you would expect. Also there is a tendency for the little E string to rattle as I use an upward stroke with the index or middle finger to play it. I will try switching that string out with a little higher gauge to alleviate that problem. Your style (light or heavy) of playing may determine whether these strings are right for you. They are great for strumming light rhythm with a balanced bright sound using a Fender thin pick so I would definitely use them for recording rhythm parts. For recording finger-picked parts I will continue using regular light gauge strings on a Martin. The D'Addario extra lights are easy on the fingers and good for practicing any style. They would also be a good choice for beginnersdhughe1

Seems to do the job as the colour of the cloth after you wipe it down suggests. Not a massive fan of the smell personally. Nice little tin to store it in and should last a long time. The cloth provided does fray and leave little bits on the strings every now and then. I expect the cloth won’t last as long as the main product. Not sure yet how much it lengthens the life of strings and whether it pays for itself through that (I expect not) but it’s nice to know that the strings are being maintained.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

I've been using fast Fret for as long as I can remember. A quick wipe after every gig and the strings soud better and last a lot longer. Before I started using it I would break a string maybe every gig (and always had to have a spare guitar ready) but once I started using Fast Fret I was getting more like 6 gigs out of a set of strings. So it pays for itself quite quickly, and lasts a very long time. It is worth noting though, that it is essentially just mineral oil and is not really magic formula. You can buy mineral oil cheaply on eBay (search for chopping board oil) and that's the same stuff. But what makes Fast Fret worth it is the applicator – it prevents you from putting too much on and having a load to wipe off again. It also helps look after your fretboard too, as most lemon oil fingerboard cleaners/conditioners are just made of mineral oil too – there are no lemons in lemon oil 🙂 Anyway, I would recommend it – buy with confidence! I have been using Fast-Fret for decades on ALL of my stringed instruments and it is the ONLY string treatment I will use. I have found that applying Fast-Fret after EVERY use of my guitars, banjos and mandolin can prolong string life for more than twelve months. As an experiment some years ago, I left a set of Fast-Fret maintained stings on one of my guitars to see how long they would remain in good playable condition, and they lasted for more than three years. I'm not saying strings should be kept on an instrument that long as the wire will become tired and lose brightness and tone over time, even when kept clean and corrosion free. But I regularly keep strings on instruments for up to 12 months because Fast-Fret can extend string life for a very long time… If applied thoroughly and religiously to your strings after using your instrument. Experience has taught us that Corrosion and dirt are the enemies of metal strings. This because, the oily salts & acid from contact with fingers and hands is the Number One cause of Premature String Death. Finally, I have to say I love the new design of Fast-Fret. It's new plastic end cap and metal can packaging significantly extends the life of the product.Groovintheblues

I thought he could take it with him to kill time in the car or use to chill and easily practice playing guitar in bed or wherever he is. – Nope I also thought worst case scenario my 12 yr old son could practice his cords on it without having to bring his guitar around with him. – Nope You can't do anything with it because there is no way to strum it. There are no strings to strum! Just a plastic molded plate that looks like strings. Even if if you try strumming the neck (the portion that does have strings), it makes no sound either, so you don't really know if you are making the cord correctly if it's for practice purposes. The videos on YouTube make it seem like people are really enjoying jamming on it and as though the onlookers are actually enjoying as well – but you would get just as much pleasure out of picking up a broom to pretend to jam on. I got more musical practice and enjoyment out of those card sized mini electric pianos back in the 90's that you could get at the 99Cent store. Buyer BewareHildagilda

I'm a beginner and want to practice every day. I travel often for business and I bring my PocketStrings with me so I can practice my finger placement since I do not bring my guitar along. I'm surprised how many bad reviews are posted. This is only for practice – no sound. After only a few days of use, I'm already seeing an improvement! I highly recommend!David

This would be better if the cover locked in place when you are playing. Since it doesn't, every time you try to slide up the neck the cover starts to close. So if you want to just play simple chords to work your calouses, great. but any other use is really limited by the closing cover. Also the string adjustment is poorly crafted. It is designed to be changed from the exterior with an Allen wrench, but the quality is so poor the holes don't line up. So you have to use a screw driver to open the cover to make the adjustments. Anybody try traveling on an airline with a screwdriver lately? Yeah. Thats a problem.Vrotate

I have been using Stingjoy string on my 3 Ibanez electric guitars and a 5 string Fender Jazz bass bass for a couple years now. I really cannot comment on the bass strings- I just do not change them often enough. The electric guitars on the other hand I change quite frequently. I have found that the Strinjoy strings make more and a broader sound 'acoustically'- that is with the guitar unplugged, and as I use low to medium output PUPS that 'acoustic' sound translates when plugged in. Over the years I have managed to get a handle on Floyd Rose double locking systems which can offer really solid tuning stability once you do learn how to manage them. With the Stringjoy strings the tuning stability on my FR guitars went from very good to ridiculously solid. Once the a new set of strings are settled in, If I stick to whole tone bends or < and nothing environmental intervenes, I can play 6 plus hours a day and be not need to tune, or if I do it is just to sharpen the high E and perhaps B string occasionally. The tuning stability coupled with the great sound and extended time the strings sound good has made Stringjoy strings my electric guitar strings of choice.Shaun F

This FiveStar review is really more of a projected rating. At the time I ordered the super balanced set, I also ordered a set of Broadways. They are beautiful strings – amazing tone and vibracy. Plus they’ve lasted 3 months- a LONG for all the bending I do. This may be partly because I also decided to use the StringJoy string conditioner, a product Ive always stayed away from. Stringjoys formula is awesome and most importantly safe for the guitar wood and finish (I ran a test on a couple beaters). I’m looking forward to trying the Balanced set- I’ve pieced sets together to get that combination- perfect for taming the loud G string on my Strat. There are no reviews for this guitar yet so I will leave one. I just got it a few days ago and I cannot put it down. I have also had to tune it only ONE TIME these past few days, it arrived in tune(a couple steps down but I don't really mind), which I suppose is rare but it's probably because we are in the middle of summer here, and our weather and California's is going to be largely similar in temperature for a while. Anyway, I love this guitar. I heard it would look cheap, and it doesn't, it looks normal for a guitar which is great for me. The colors are lovely, light colored wood is something I really enjoy. So it looks beautiful in a simplistic way, which I very much like. It's nice and glossy, there's no dings or any imperfections on mine. It's very much a fantastic looking guitar, I can't say enough about it. The neck was great, there was no setup needed, no fret buzz and the action was great. The strings sound clean and good, they are bronze strings of the Monoprice brand, they are very very good and I have played other strings before. So I will not change them until they get old. They also sent a replacement of these strings with the guitar which I am grateful that they included. It comes with a little bag with a microfiber cloth wipe, a smallish strap, (works good enough for me and I'm a big guy), tuner, some picks, This guitar comes with a tuner already inside it, (which I did not know they would include) and it works marvelously, I tested the pickup and it was very good. The sound of the guitar is what you'd expect of a spruce top, quick, nice and trebly, and a bit dry sounding. I expect it will set in and sound more mature in the coming years. Overall I'm very happy with my guitar. Five stars!Dimitri

Beautiful, amazing value? The instrument arrived carefully packed, without a flaw. It looks even better than depicted. I have been doing a comparison of silk & steel strings from multiple brands, and these are by far the loosest feeling and easiest to play. They really do feel like having nylon strings on a steel guitar. This is great if you want to make playing easier, and it definitely does. The sound is pretty good too, not as loud as regular strings but a more sweet sound. If your guitar has low action you will probably get fret buzz since these are basically extra lights. Also, another plus to these strings is that they are wrapped with silk at the ball end, which is good for delicate or older instruments. I would recommend these for people who want the easiest to play strings. Otherwise the LaBella 710L strings sound similar and aren't quite so light.Chris

Looking at the description, I wasn't sure if it had "silk" threads underneath the wrap wire. On the Martin website, "silked" seemed to refer to the windings at the ball end. I took a string apart and, indeed, it is a true silk and steel. I'm using them on a very old Gibson flat top with many repaired cracks. Also, my hands seem to be degrading where normal strings are too high tension.Roy

These are great strings be not for everyone. They are different in that they aid the upper register of vocals. I've put them on a 00-27 and a J 200; tow very different guitars. The affect is magical for those musicians who want a harp-like tone from their steel strung axe. They have an interesting configuration. From e to E; 12, 16,12,16, 23 W, 30 W. The result is crisp, clear highs and rich lows. These strings are different, but wonderful.goeller2006

I have tried countless strings over the years, and these John Pearse strings are fantastic! You name it, I've tried it. Everything from D'Addario, Elixer, Martin, Gibson, DR, Cleartone and even Dean Markley. Cheap and expensive, I have tried them. All I can say is that these are the best acoustic strings I have tried to date. I just went from a set of Elixers (which I thought were expensive, but good) to these, and these strings won out hands down. As soon as I installed these, my guitar absolutely came ALIVE! It was almost like night and day. Everything was better! Immediately what I noticed was the added volume and projection I was getting, but most of all, it was the tone that absolutely sold me on these. With these strings I heard more woodiness, percussive body, clarity, string to string definition, harmonic overtones, and resonance than any other acoustic strings I have heard to date. The top end also opened up and became even more tactile and transparent. These strings are just more organic, yet highly defined and less sterile than anything else I have heard, and they also have a very balanced output from string to string that is excellent. In no small measure, these strings have been a bit of a revelation. These strings are also very smooth, and I also noticed less finger noise between fretting notes and bar chords as well. However, regarding that smoothness, I also noticed something interesting as well. Just try to follow me with this: These are the first set of John Pearse strings I have ever installed, so I don't know if this is a "one off", but as smooth as they are, I also noticed that the unwound strings have an ever so slightly uneven and wavy finish to them in spots when you shine them in the light. I don't mention this as a negative IN ANY WAY, but just purely as an observation. Besides, I could care less because they sound so darn amazing. Anyway, my point of mentioning this (and this is based purely on conjecture), is I wonder if the barely perceptible finish inconsistencies contribute to the overall tonality of these strings? TBH, I have never seen strings that had this kind of "inconsistency" to their finish before, and I am wondering if this has anything to do with the great tonality of these strings? All the other strings I have bought over the years have been extremely smooth and consistent in their diameter and finish. Again, I don't mention this as a negative in any way because you never feel this while playing in the least. The only time I noticed it was when I looked at them under direct light. These strings sound fantastic, and obviously their specific alloy and construction plays a great part to their sound, but on the other hand, I have never seen strings with this kind of finish before, and yet I have also never been so excited about a set of strings before either. There has to be something to it. The only other thing I can mention is that these strings also have excellent string life as well. I have had these on my acoustic after about a month and a half of use, and they still sound fantastic! Had a pesky b and e string on short scale 000. Solution was it wanted more tension to ring true. The 13 and 18 did it; short scale so they play like lighter strings! The 22w g is awesome, the rest balance nicely. 52 is lite for E but not much of a sacrifice; drop D tuning still do-able. SO HAPPYJohn

One of my new favorite strings to play on my Takamine NP-17C model. These strings are deep and rich and stay in tune extremely nice and can be de-tuned and hold well no matter how much you throw at them. They stay clean and nice and have a richer tone spectrum than my all time Martin strings that I have played for 40 years. I am a huge Dean Markley fan and user. These strings have changed my tune a bit…. Happily Satisfied is the word and I cannot wait for the next string change…. Whenever that may be…. These are holding up well above average!!Bradley S

Another set of great strings from Stringjoy. I did break my High E when installing these on my acoustic, but I think we all know that's bound to happen from time to time with guitar strings. I won't go so far as to say that the string was faulty, although I supposes it's possible. Luckily, I had a spare, but it's always good to have an extra high E string in the guitar case anyway. (I've never had a problem with any SJs breaking from playing.) One very cool thing about this company is they will sell individual strings. Stringjoys are my new go-to strings for all my instruments and I've really enjoyed them. Great sound, great sting-life. And I like supporting a smaller company that's making quality items in a tough market.Tim S

These are ok. I love your electric strings. I can’t play without them. But these acoustics were ok. They sound good but seemed a bit stiff compared to some of the coated acoustics (Daddario EXP) that I normally play. I am going to try your other acoustic formula when I need strings again and maybe make a personal set. I line a size down from 50 in the ERalph N

I've owned one of these for years. It doesn't hang well (neck dive), has the sound that you'd expect out of a shoebox sized cavity (no bass), and is over priced. The only reason for owning one of these is if you are severly cramped for space. Get a Baby Taylor, instead of this thing. They are close to the same price, the last time that I checked.Ken

When I first saw these in the CF Martin catalog, I thought how weird looking they were. When I asked at a local shop about them, I was told they would order one for me, but I would not like it! But I liked classical, nylon string guitars and I wanted to own something from CF Martin. Other than this, Martin GTR does not make anything else like that, unless they invented something since I quit looking. I was very fortunate to discover Musicians Friend, and they at one time had these with a passive pickup. These were on sale at a very good price! I ordered one, it arrived in very good shape, in very good time. I fell absolutely totally in love with it, weird shape and all. You could tell it was a Martin, it reeked quality. It's small, the tone is great, but the volume is not huge. Use it for travel, camping, hanging on the wall for odd moments of practice. It's not a case queen, fussy little guitar, but protect it from too much heat and moisture, it is made with wood and glue. With a pickup you could probably blow away a concert hall with it. Look in the sound hole, it will say where it was made there, and tell you to always use extra-lite nylon strings. No truss rod was standard for ages with nylon string guitars, the Backpacker does not have one. Most guitars eventually need the action adjusted to suit the player, including ones costing 10 to 20 times as much as this one. Mine came with a very nice strap and a special gig bag, both very useful. If this appeals to you, don't hesitate to give it a try. I've had mine for years and still love it. I have had mine for 10 years or more and enjoy it very much. It's not full body sound it's there to have something to practice and play when on holiday or outside on the deck enjoying a cold one. It doesn't take up much room when packing the car either And yes the one I have is an actual classical backpacker guitar that Martin made years ago. I use it with high tension strings DAddario Pro Arte at standard tuning and it holds up very good stays in tune never have a problem with it going outGerry

I usually use Elixir Lights or Mediums which is the recommended brand for all Taylor Guitars but I always wanted to try out Cleartone. Picked up the Cleartone Grand Lights which is a mix of medium and light strings and they do not disappoint. They sound beautiful on my Taylor Grand Auditorium! I highly recommend picking up a set of these and try them out on any acoustic guitar. If you like the crisp bright tones of lights with the rich and loudness of medium strings then these are the strings for you! They are corrosion resistant and have a thin flake free coating on them like Elixirs do. These just might be my new favorite strings! I will have to check out some different sizes and see what else they have. But as of now I am happy with my very first set of Cleartone acoustic guitar strings!mccaseyfresh

Although I was not throughly impressed I still say they are worth a shot if you are curious. If you don't like them, hey, go back to what works. I am unfortunately stuck with a stack of these strings (and intend to use them), but I'm not going to complain because I got an incredible deal on them. There's too many complainers out there today. Cleartone strings appear to be a well-manufactured, quality product, and I recommend them on the grounds that you try them to see if they are a good fit for you and your guitar. All the best! Cleartone coating versus other brands' coating – this is what the package touts. I notice the coating to be thinner but a good quality "coated" string has never bothered me much. In other words – it advertises a thinner coating and a more natural feeling product, but unfortunately it doesn't matter to me much. I'll rate this category a 6. The strings seem to be well made and are even packaged nicely in a durable poly wrap package, I admit I was pretty impressed just seeing what was underneath the pouch. Strings are color coded, which will be appealing to those who are familiar with D'Addario strings. Nice touch. Each string tips off with a long straight steel core. Strings tuned up fast and after a few stretches only needed one or two re-tunes. The area where I am dissatisfied is not in the durability or the feel of the strings. I am dissappointed in the sound. These strings replaced an old set of D'Addario EXL's on my Yamaha FGX720SCA Acoustic/Electric, and although they were brigher (as new strings tend to be), they were lacking a certain fullness and richness that the EXL's provided, both new and used, when played on my guitar. The EXL's have always been my go-to coated string, simply because they sound better to me than other coated competitors, so I may be partially biased here. But I know what I hear and I know what I like, and I don't feel these Cleartones are the best fit for my guitar. I want the readers to know that every guitar responds differently to strings. I have played guitar for quite a few years and have realized that some brands/gauges/lines of strings work better on some guitars, both acoustic and electric, than do others. So don't let this review scare you away from trying a set of strings that you might just fall in love with. On my particular guitar I wasn't impressed, but perhaps on your Takamine or your Martin these strings will shoot rainbows from your fingertips. It's all subjective. If you can find a special, I'd say give them a whack. You may not be dissapointed, and you'll know for yourself if these are for you or not. Absolutely can't tell that these are coated strings at all. They are bright without being super honky that you have to break in, they are smooth to play, and only sound better the longer you have them. They last an insanely long time with heavy use while still sounding fresh as can be, I play every day and change mine once every 10 months to a year. I guess I'll have to give Elixirs a fair try because they are the only brand I haven't used on bass yet, but have no idea what the last review was about saying these strings aren't good. They are downright amazing. I don't do reviews but I stand by the products that stand by me. The price is absolutely worth every last penny. Try them and you'll never look back!Mike B

My personal favorite coated strings, they have a great balanced tone perfect for rock and roll. They last forever, and keep their tone for months even with heavy playing. They have a warm low end and snappy responsive highs. I typically don't like coated strings as I find they impede my playing, however these strings feel like there's nothing there! I really like the tone and flexable feel of these strings. They have a good sound that does sound to bright or feel to slick, unlike elixers. I will probably purchase again if i find a great deal on them but unfortanatly i didnt get my moneys worth because the g string broke in two weeks. The only other thing i didnt love is that the big e string has so much wrapping at the ball that i had to jam my pin in a little more than was comfortable to hold it in. All in all the positives outway the negatives, the biggest thing to improve on would be durability.tyrw21

I had recently purchased another guage here a Musicians Friend from another brand, & was very satisfied, but was having a bit of a hard time seeing the markings unless in a very well lit room. Then I spotted this. It was a little more expensive, though still very reasonable, & the white markings on black make this much easier to see! Awesome!!James G.

I purchased the String Butler for my ES-347 that only slightly went out of tune. However, since installing the String Butler it going out of tune is a thing of the past. It works great! I don't like the extra hardware that the String Butler presents but its a small price to pay for the benefit it provides. I can now pickup the ES-347 after some days of not playing it and to my surprise its in tune (only slight adjustments are needed to get it back to being precisely in tune but its minor). D'addario EJ26 Phosphor Bronze guitar strings are very good. I have played this strings for years. D'addario is a very trusted brand among guitar players. They are always consistent great sound and playability. They are comfortable on the fingers and they last a good while. The longevity of strings all depends on how much and how often you play. I have used various D'Addario strings since the early 80s. I was 'aware' of them in the 70s but I typically used Fender strings on electrics and Martin on acoustics. I have always maintained that D'Addario strings are cheap, plentiful, and get the job done. The argument could be made that there are better strings out there ("boutique" strings) but D'Addarios are available in any music store and they are consistently good. I think I only had one or two sets where the unwound strings were nasty…. they looked 'kinked' and didn't sound right. One or two sets out of how many hundreds of sets?? As to these particular strings, I have a 1947 Gibson L-5 and it just feels more 'right' with caveman strings. I'm not one of those 30s rhythm players that go runka chunka all day long, I play it like any other guitar, and it begs for heavy strings. D'Addario has them available….not everyone does, ya know. I'm happy with the company's products, across the board.ksdaddy
