I have been a Stringjoy customer now for 4-5 years(I think?) and they are the best strings I’ve ever used on my electric guitars! Love the feel of them and the tone. You guys have an amazing thing going. I would love to try them on my resonator guitar(it’s a square-neck). Beard Guitars makes the strings I currently use on it. They’re a little peculiar as far as the gauge goes though. .18-.20-.29W-.36-.45-.56 but I love the tone of that gauge and like Ariel Posen, I like a fight from my strings. I turned to Stringjoy because I wanted a 9-72 8-string set, for which there aren't many options ot there, unless you go for a custom set. I was tempted by the stellar reviews, so I decided to give these a go. Firstly, these are the clearest sounding strings I've ever tried. They're not excessively bright, but their articulation is amazing, which really helps that low F# string ring true. They are almost clear to a fault, because they emphasise every little bit of fret buzz and string rattle, so you have to watch your technique. Secondly, these are the longest lasting uncoated strings I've ever used. After a month of use, they have shown minimal aging. I don't play my 8-string every day, but still, this is impressive. Also, they don't rust, flake or turn black. They just gradually become duller, while still remaining playable. One bit of criticism I have is the tuning stability. These strings seem to need a certain amount of tension to stay in tune. They were fine on my 27" scale 8-string, but when I tried the equivalent set on my 25.5" scale 7-string, bending made them go out of tune very easily. I need to try the 10-60 set and see if it's any better. Overall, I'm very happy with this set for my 8-string, and I have already purchased more. Oh, and one more thing! Normally, whenever I use gauge 72 or higher, I have to partially unwrap the winding to fit the string into its tuning peg. With this set, the lowest string was somehow able to go in as it is. This is the 3rd action gauge I've purchased, after returning the first two because they were inaccurate. This gauge is accurate and feels solid. My only gripe is what appears to be a typo on the back of the gauge, 'guitar' is spelt 'giutar' three times. The measurements are also etched into the steel, unlike the other gauges where they were printed on. 10 seems steep for a bit it steel with some measurements etched into it, but after trying to cheap out and getting a faulty gauge twice I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this.axdx9x

I’ve been playing guitar for over 40 years, performing in several bands on rhythm and lead electric guitar. I currently mostly play a PRS Custom 24, a Fender Strat Elite and a couple ESP’s I’m fond of. I have always used the ‘big name, low cost’ strings until I decided to give Stringjoy a try and see if there is really any difference. I was blown away. The strings are smooth as silk, feel consistent up and down the neck and from low E to high E, and they stay in tune much better than any of my previous strings. I usually use my fingernail to run along the underside of the thinnest E string, to feel for bumps in the string caused by the frets. It’s a quick way to check to see if it’s time to change strings. After 2+ weeks of daily play, I feel very little fret indentation on the Stringjoy strings, much longer than I am used to. I find myself picking up the guitar more often, getting more creative, and figuring out leads I hadn’t pulled off before. I am sold on the sound, feel and reliability of Stringjoy strings, and I won’t be going back to ‘big name, cheap strings’ again. Thanks Stringjoy!.Leslie B
first thing you notice upon opening the package is the ball end and wrap of the string. the wrap goes right up to the ball end with NO slack (if you look at commercial grade brands the ball is loose and the wraps look weak) the length is extra long so you have plenty of sting for any scale neck the balance of the light 10’s is different in that the 48 on the low E looks like it would be heavy at first however, when you string ur ax up you notice a FULL rich tone and the stings feel very strong under your fingers. They bend with ease and the 48 does NOT feel heavy at all! although they are not “coated†the very tight wrap of the winding gives a smooth and fast feel similar to a coated sting. a HUGE plus for a guy that likes coated strings and is converting over! after giving them a proper stretch I tried to intentionally knock them out of tune with a heavy hand while playing both rhythm and lead playing….they stayed perfectly in tune put my freshly strung ax in my gig bag and headed out to my gig (hour away)..took it out once arrived, was still in tune…played the gig…stayed in tune… woke up the next morning and grabbed my guitar for my morning strum and some coffee…you guessed it…STILL in tune! Extremely musical and beefy tone from StringJoy! Everyone should really try these, its tricky to describe with words but no doubt, any guitar player would feel and hear the difference IMMEDIATELY! I’ve been a Happy Stringjoy user since 2016. I found them while surfing the net one day and was intrigued to find an American (Nashville, TN.) company actually making guitar strings by hand, the old fashion way. 4. Stringjoy Signatures – Balanced Super Light Gauge (9-42) Nickel Wound Electric Guitar Strings

So these might look like a typical set of 9s (or super lights, or extra lights everyone seems to call em something different ), but trust me, they re not. the standard for 9s is typically 9-11-16-24-32-42, and while the gauges on the bottom end are solid, the top is all kinds of messed up. why some other companies make them that way, i honestly couldn t tell you but never fear! stringjoy fixed all that for you. see, the issue on most sets is that the .011 has far too little tension to balance with the .009 and the .016 has far too much tension. so, with their balanced 9s they fixed all that by using a .012 and a .015 instead. the result is a set of strings that plays evenly across the entire fretboard and intonates better when set up properly. if you re typically a 9s player, these are definitely the way to go.

I have been using Stingjoy string on my 3 Ibanez electric guitars and a 5 string Fender Jazz bass bass for a couple years now. I really cannot comment on the bass strings- I just do not change them often enough. The electric guitars on the other hand I change quite frequently. I have found that the Strinjoy strings make more and a broader sound 'acoustically'- that is with the guitar unplugged, and as I use low to medium output PUPS that 'acoustic' sound translates when plugged in. Over the years I have managed to get a handle on Floyd Rose double locking systems which can offer really solid tuning stability once you do learn how to manage them. With the Stringjoy strings the tuning stability on my FR guitars went from very good to ridiculously solid. Once the a new set of strings are settled in, If I stick to whole tone bends or < and nothing environmental intervenes, I can play 6 plus hours a day and be not need to tune, or if I do it is just to sharpen the high E and perhaps B string occasionally. The tuning stability coupled with the great sound and extended time the strings sound good has made Stringjoy strings my electric guitar strings of choice.Shaun F
This FiveStar review is really more of a projected rating. At the time I ordered the super balanced set, I also ordered a set of Broadways. They are beautiful strings – amazing tone and vibracy. Plus they’ve lasted 3 months- a LONG for all the bending I do. This may be partly because I also decided to use the StringJoy string conditioner, a product Ive always stayed away from. Stringjoys formula is awesome and most importantly safe for the guitar wood and finish (I ran a test on a couple beaters). I’m looking forward to trying the Balanced set- I’ve pieced sets together to get that combination- perfect for taming the loud G string on my Strat. (Guitar there were placed on is a Tom Murphy Painted and Aged Gibson Custom Shop 1959 Les Paul Standard w/ Brazilian Fretboard) Back in the day, Ernie Ball strings weren't packaged well; they weren't even sealed. If you haven't tried them since their packaging was reinvented, they're definitely worth a look now. Tried D'Addario pure nickel strings, found the wound three to be too low output. I swear the core wire looked like it belonged in acoustic strings. Maybe I got a factory defect, who knows. Gibson strings sound great initially but the 'G' starts to sound dead after a week and the wound strings sound dead and filthy in three weeks. These on the other hand sound marvelous. They sound great out of the package, stay balanced, and sound good for longer than I thought possible.MidnightRiderInTX
I have recently come back to playing the guitar, Sax is my primary instrument but I have had my Gibson RD Standard since 1978. I have since increased my heard of guitars to 10 electric guitars and 3 bass guitars. I have come to favor the Ernie Ball lights and super lights on almost all my guitars. I play the 9's on all of my Stratocaster copies and the super lights on the 3/4 size guitars. I have been using the Power Slinkys (11s) for a few years now. I had switched from another brand because the Slinkys made my Strat sound more Straty. After watching a few videos on YouTube about string gauge, I thought I would buy the Regular Slinkys (10s) and see what difference that would make. When I got online to buy I saw that Guitar Center had a sale on 12 packs and since there is a pandemic, I thought it prudent to hoard strings. My logic was that while I may run out of TP, I would never run out of strings for my guitars. Long story short, you cannot go wrong with the tone of 10s. I do like them better than the 11s. They are much clearer in the low end and you get more definition. I have to do less EQing when recording and they just seem to pop better in a mix. The only downside is that they are taking me time to get used to, I play very heavy handed and these are much easier to bend. But I can already see that I have less hand fatigue.Richard

They are always consistent great sound and playability. They are comfortable on the fingers and they last a good while. The longevity of strings all depends on how much and how often you play. I have used various D'Addario strings since the early 80s. I was 'aware' of them in the 70s but I typically used Fender strings on electrics and Martin on acoustics. I have always maintained that D'Addario strings are cheap, plentiful, and get the job done. The argument could be made that there are better strings out there ("boutique" strings) but D'Addarios are available in any music store and they are consistently good. I think I only had one or two sets where the unwound strings were nasty…. they looked 'kinked' and didn't sound right. One or two sets out of how many hundreds of sets?? As to these particular strings, I have a 1947 Gibson L-5 and it just feels more 'right' with caveman strings. I'm not one of those 30s rhythm players that go runka chunka all day long, I play it like any other guitar, and it begs for heavy strings. D'Addario has them available….not everyone does, ya know. I bought these for a Little Martin, which was recommended to me as the best way to introduce Nashville tuning to my repertoire, as the smaller scale takes better to high-string tunings. Nashville tuning is sort of a studio trick most often used as a doubling of a standard guitar in order to achieve a 12-string or natural chorusing effect with less playing effort, more mixing possibilities, and no worries about having to down-tune to D to avoid neck or bridge issues due to the tension of most 12-strings (other than Guild models). There aren't many choices for pre-configured Nashville sets (many people put theirs together from individual strings), but this set seems the best balanced of what's available, and is especially designed to work well on short-scale guitars like the Little Martin series. I just wish they also made this in an 80/20 formulation, as I am starting to prefer how that metal combination blends with other instruments in the mix vs. the more modern phosphor bronze formulation. But one could always use 80/20 on the main guitar and get an even richer sound when blended with this phosphor bronze set.

I like the strings, but the over advertising on emails is really annoying. I’m not sure who is your marketing manager, but your time would be well spent at NAAM, Local guitar dealers, online advertising, etc. Maybe even getting a contract to put your strings on specialty guitars from the manufacturer, along with specs that only you meet. I had been reading about these strings in forums etc and was intrigued. Decided to try a set or two and see what was up. I bought the 10-52 Signatures. Well, I have been using them for a month and a half and all I can say is, believe the hype. The feel great, nice on the fingers, and it seems like the difference in quality of the metal is noticeable. I mean, it feels that way. Maybe it's something else. I don't know but they feel good, hold tune very well and settle in easy right after they're strung up. In six weeks of home playing they have not diminished in tone or tuning stability at all. I'm always looking for "my" strings… after removing some Elixir nanoweb lights and putting these on my Taylor 224ce-K DLX, its like a dream to play, great tone that makes me just want to keep on playing… the bottom end isn't as strong as the Elixirs, but it's not bad, smooth across the strings. I didn't notice any more projection, but I figured that was marketing woo anyhow and wasn't looking for that. For more projection just increase the gage and go to mediums or larger… They seems much more evenly balanced for this guitar than the $Elixirs. I'd say they are well worth a shot if you haven't found strings that suit you… I'll be buying these for awhile I think. The one minor difference I did notice from the Elixirs, other than a little less bottom end punch, is the EB strings grab your fingers more making sliding a little more difficult, but this helps plant your fingers for cleaner notes, so I guess it's give and take, can't have it all… Overall I'd say they are top notch stuff equal to or better than anything out there.Rob
Got these strings as apart of an experiment. I wanted to find the right strings for the way I play (I do a lot of strumming and some finger style), and these fit perfectly. I installed these on an Ibanez pn1 parlor guitar that was experiencing muddiness on the low end with the 80/20 strings i had previously put on. Its a mahogany laminate that sounded a little too boomy to me. I purchased these aluminum bronze strings because they were recommended for improved clarity and projection. I found this to be true and it really improved the sound of my small body guitar. Will definitely buy again.Shan

I turned to Stringjoy because I wanted a 9-72 8-string set, for which there aren't many options ot there, unless you go for a custom set. I was tempted by the stellar reviews, so I decided to give these a go. Firstly, these are the clearest sounding strings I've ever tried. They're not excessively bright, but their articulation is amazing, which really helps that low F# string ring true. They are almost clear to a fault, because they emphasise every little bit of fret buzz and string rattle, so you have to watch your technique. Secondly, these are the longest lasting uncoated strings I've ever used. After a month of use, they have shown minimal aging. I don't play my 8-string every day, but still, this is impressive. Also, they don't rust, flake or turn black. They just gradually become duller, while still remaining playable. One bit of criticism I have is the tuning stability. These strings seem to need a certain amount of tension to stay in tune. They were fine on my 27" scale 8-string, but when I tried the equivalent set on my 25.5" scale 7-string, bending made them go out of tune very easily. I need to try the 10-60 set and see if it's any better. Overall, I'm very happy with this set for my 8-string, and I have already purchased more. Oh, and one more thing! Normally, whenever I use gauge 72 or higher, I have to partially unwrap the winding to fit the string into its tuning peg. With this set, the lowest string was somehow able to go in as it is. This is really interesting. I have always kept plenty of strings around and been waiting for the previous strings to be used before I use the StringJoy strings. Today I decided to restring my 50 year old Ventura Bruno, a D28 copy. I was just tuning the last string when this email popped up. My first thought was, wow if this company knows so much about it's customers that they know when they are putting strings on, they are going to be really great at crafting the strings I need to be playing. The second I touched these string I knew they were special, the quality materials and quality workmanship just jumped right out at me. The way they unwound right out of the packed screamed of quality in both workmanship and material. I do not think I have gotten any better at tuning new strings but these strings were the easiest I have ever tuned. Each string was off only about four steps. The sound is impressive and really don't know what to think. There is so much sound this six string guitar sounds like a 12 string. Used Martin marquis strings for decades. They quit making them and I decided it was time to try something else. Saw that Stringjoy's are made in Nashville and figured "Music City", must be good. Gave my guitars (acoustic) a thorough cleaning before installing the Naturals – phosphor bronze. Truthfully, I was not sure about their sound texture the first day. Great!!! I had recently bought a new guitar and the strings that came on it sounded flat. So, I put the strings that I’ve used on another guitar with similar scale length, different tone woods and then it went real bad, tinny. I was surprised by the lackluster brightness of the 80/20 strings. Nowhere near what I’m accustomed to with other brands. I realize in production at times an inferior batch can pass through. I may give them another shot someday. I already put the second set on my Gibson maple advanced jumbo and it was the same as the first set. I have no idea what happened unless the strings were improperly packaged as 80/20 when in fact they might have been recorded lain phosphor bronze? There was no bell like brightness to them which is surprising for a quality maple guitar.David K
The strings sound amazing! But I have serious trouble getting and keeping them in tune. In all fairness I only played my guitar maybe 3 times in the first week after putting them on and I keep it on a stand in my home. But the strings I had used in the same way had stayed tuned for weeks. Even in the same playing I found myself constantly retuning between songs and key changes, capo use and the like. Could this possibly be my guitar?I have a different kind of string I will change it and see! By the way I am certainly not an expert but I have played for 35 years!Damon M
OK, since you asked, I'll be candid. I had high hopes for handmade-in-America strings, but honestly I didn't like their sound at all. It's hard to describe, but I thought they sounded lifeless. Maybe too tinny, with weak bass. Didn't seem to have much depth. I played them at a rehearsal right after putting them on, and I didn't like the sound. In fact, a woman commented out of the blue that my guitar didn't sound very good. I play a 1971 Martin D-28. By the time we played the next night, I had taken them off and put on a new set of my usual Martin strings, and she commented, again unprompted, that my guitar sounded a lot better, which was just what I was thinking. I try out lots of guitar strings – phosphor, 80/20, monel, hexagon, octagon, coated, uncoated, famous brands, not famous, and I usually go back to Martin 80/20 uncoated between trying new ones. I like a bright sound, but I also want depth and rich bass. I'm sorry to be so negative about these, but I didn't like the sound. After trying a few different brands and gauges of strings over a five year period I have finally found the perfect brand/set of strings for playing in C# and drop-B tunings. I started out playing Ernie Ball sets on a 25.5 scale guitar in standard tuning but when I began experimenting with down-tuning I found the EB sets to be lacking in tone and definition the lower I tuned my guitar not to mention constantly breaking my low E string. When I switched to playing a 24 3/4 scale guitar in C# and drop-B I had to start looking for a new set of strings because the EB "not even slinky" sets I had been using just were not cutting it. I tried Dean Markley Blue Steel .13's with a wound 3rd string and found the top strings to be cumbersome and the low .56 still not heavy enough for dropping the low E to B. I went to every single music shop in town looking for a light top/extremely heavy bottom set and I finally ran across the GHS .10 – .60 set on sale, two for the price of one. Perfect! These strings last forever. If you use some GHS Fast Fret on them they keep their tone better than any other brand of string I've tried and I have yet to break a string in the year or so I've been using the GHS .10-.60 sets. The tone is fantastic and they sound great on a mahogony/maple body guitar with EMG pickups. It does take some getting used to the difference in string gauge between the low and high strings but it didn't take me long to learn to adjust my pick attack for the lighter strings on the top end. If you know how to set up your guitar for heavy gauge strings get 'em and go to town! If not I would highly recommend you take your guitar to a guitar/music shop and have it set up by a pro. Oh, for you kids out there: these strings are NOT meant for standard tuning and they will not make you sound like Zakk Wylde but they might make you a better guitarist if used as intended. touring in the 80s I used GHS boomers GBCL, I stopped playing in the 90s and somehow ended up using EB hybrid slinkys. I found an old pack of boomers in a guitar case compartment i hadnt opened since 93. Somehow they were still fresh and strung up one of my guitars from the 80s. Wow, the wound strings EAD (or C# G# C# my tuning) are definitely Louder and breakthrough more than the wound EBs… (the plain steel sounded identical). There are soooooooo many fake garbage and laughable opinions on guitar products these days on the tube that I decided to do my own experiment to confirm what I was hearing. I proceeded to purchase 26 packs of these GHS boomers GBCL (which are the wound strings from a 10s set and the plain strings from a 9s set). Using 2 identical guitars (even color), Logic X via a PreSonus FireStudio input, dunlop red acrylic 1.5mm pick and as consistent as possible pick of each strings. The only difference was that each guitar had a new set of strings, one got GHS boomers GBCL and the other ErnieBall HyBrid Slinkys. I averaged the 12 picks of each string by merging the 12 waveforms into a single track for each guitar for each string, the wound strings of the GHS boomers were clearly louder, rang longer by at least 7.2, 5.9, 4.6 seconds respectively (tuned toC#, G#, C#). the Plain Steel string waveforms were virtually Identical between the sets though. If you arent sure what this tuning is, its simply DropD half a step down (aka dropC#). Plugged into a Dual Rectifier, Laney and a Vetta, on a high gain channel you get this Extra Gain that breaks through, so needless to say ill be back to using GHS boomers GBCLs on all my guitars!!!thundercab

I just installed my first set of Stringjoy Naturals 11/52 gauge on my Martin 000C-28 Andy Summers Signature Edition. My feedback : Tone is good initial impression.Not as bright as Elixir. The strings are longer than other brands, seems like an extra 5+ inches longer so you could save a bit on cost. I also have brights that I will put on my Breedlove Cedar top at some point.William J

I got the first set of these as a gift and put them on one of my guitars. When I played the guitar it seemed a lot easier to play, silky smooth, and sounded very good. I would not think that strings could make that big of a difference but they do. I feel just like Yngwie ripping up the fret board. I just bought 10 more sets so I don't have to wait for them anymore, the strings are popular and last time I ordered they took 4-6 weeks. This 008 – 046 gauge is the ideal for heavy metal and fast players. You have a very soft 1st string for fast and easy pull ups, and a heavier 6th string for better palm muting and power chords. It is not random that Malmsteen plays with this set. Bullets also help to keep things in tune. If they were 008-010-014 I thing it would be better though.
These strings are awesome. I am a die hard EVH user. I own 27 guitars and have EVH strings on all of them. But I am now migrating towards these strings. Some of my top model guitars are strung with Yngwie strings. I buy them whenever I can. They feel great and sound even better. If Yngwie actually uses this product, I can see why. It has a very fundamental tone, good for mahogany guitars. But on rosewood guitars, it may kill off the overtones, which may not be right for some people. Recommended on larger guitars rather than small ones. They do last quite a long time, which helps justify the high price to an extent.J A.
recently asked curt mangan to make me up a custom set of round core monel strings in 12 string configuration. What a great set of strings. I loved monel strings on my maple bodied guitars. But when i saw they had round core available i ordered a set of 6 string strings. They were so good ,i asked about a 12 string set. They dont offer them as of yet, but rep. said they could make me up a set. i askedfor 10- 48,s round core monels, …What a great set of strings. My guild F 412 has always been a stunner tone wise with monel strings. But the round core monels enhanced that 5 x,s .. I put these on my Gibson J-55 and man what a difference over the phosphor bronze that came stock. I have yet to put them on my '29/'31 L3 or Custom Shop martin 0018, but I really adore the sound on my J-55. The J-55 has an Adirondack top, mahogany back/sides and is essentially a Gibson version of a Martin D-18 without the super boomy low end. I love these strings and they really bring out the natural woody tone of the guitar, which is how it should be in my opinion. After using these I really like the sound, and in a weird way I'm closer to that guitar than I ever was before, the phosphor bronze that were on the guitar were just too bright and metallic, I prefer the natural earthy tones. I put this guitar in different tunings and these strings really open it up there and in standard tuning as well. I can't wait to put these on my Martin 000, I just got it so the strings on it are fresh but they're 80/20s and I really don't like them. You can't go wrong with these strings. I'm going to be using them on my acoustics forever. Just vintage, natural, woody earthy tones and I couldn't be happier!Antonio

I’m actually really glad that I’ve been given the opportunity to write this review… I recently had my main Breedlove acoustic looked at by our local tech here in Gibsland Jon, I have been trying different string types for about two months and couldn’t quite get the sound I’ve been chasing. I don’t use the other bright brand that cost a bit because it sheds and I find other things I don’t like about the big E John told me you’ve gotta have a go at these mate… After considerable pressure I brought a set and I still can’t believe how great my guitar sounds every time I play which is every day. The people I work with have all been saying to me that I sound great all of a sudden. So I’ve just found my absolute go to new set of strings. And I buy from Mannys out of principle, because I’m 62 and they’ve been around… Just like me ha ha hahMark M.

I waited a few weeks before submitting this review because I wanted to see if these strings lived up to the promises. I have to say I am not disappointed. They sounded great (as you would expect) when I first restrung my guitar. However here I am, several weeks later and there is no noticeable deterioration in the sound quality, whatsoever. For the past year or so I have been using Ernie Ball Earthwood Phosphor Bronze which are excellent but these are better. Yes, at first glance, they seem expensive but given their longevity, they are a good buy.Mr T. J.
