I put these .008s on a vintage Telecaster on 3/8/18. Today is 9/16/19 and I still have them on! I read that Billy Gibbon's guitar tech mentioned they never break, so I've been curious to see how long they last. I've been playing over 50 years and do ridiculous bends all the time…like 4 fret bends and beyond with these strings. I just did a gig with this guitar yesterday and it still sounded awesome. Just out of interest, I'm keeping them on until I notice they sound dead or one breaks. I do play other guitars, but this has been an interesting study for me to see how long they sound awesome. These strings give you a very warm sweet midrange just like it says on the box. I also bought the .007s for another guitar just to see how easy it would be to play and hear what they sound like. They are hilariously easy to bend, but by "going up" to these .008s, I felt better with them and they are still easy for doing 4-hour shows. Highly recommend!Mark B.
These strings feel like clothes hangers. Hard and stiff and non responsive. They do not stay in tune after stretching. I feel bad to review this product poorly. I have always played Dean Markley Blue Steels forever…. trying these makes me understand why I would never change what works. ZZ Tops sound is amazing and how Billy G gets there is all his own… just would never work for me. All the Dunlop strings feel stiff and hard to the fingertips…. sorry… not sorrylongwhip

Bending the strings, and holding a note are a breeze, with these baby's, Its almost to easy, I use to use #8 , So it was not to much of a change to the #7, I love them. They are amazing for blues. After trying a few different brands and gauges of strings over a five year period I have finally found the perfect brand/set of strings for playing in C# and drop-B tunings. I started out playing Ernie Ball sets on a 25.5 scale guitar in standard tuning but when I began experimenting with down-tuning I found the EB sets to be lacking in tone and definition the lower I tuned my guitar not to mention constantly breaking my low E string. When I switched to playing a 24 3/4 scale guitar in C# and drop-B I had to start looking for a new set of strings because the EB "not even slinky" sets I had been using just were not cutting it. I tried Dean Markley Blue Steel .13's with a wound 3rd string and found the top strings to be cumbersome and the low .56 still not heavy enough for dropping the low E to B. I went to every single music shop in town looking for a light top/extremely heavy bottom set and I finally ran across the GHS .10 – .60 set on sale, two for the price of one. Perfect! These strings last forever. If you use some GHS Fast Fret on them they keep their tone better than any other brand of string I've tried and I have yet to break a string in the year or so I've been using the GHS .10-.60 sets. The tone is fantastic and they sound great on a mahogony/maple body guitar with EMG pickups. It does take some getting used to the difference in string gauge between the low and high strings but it didn't take me long to learn to adjust my pick attack for the lighter strings on the top end. If you know how to set up your guitar for heavy gauge strings get 'em and go to town! If not I would highly recommend you take your guitar to a guitar/music shop and have it set up by a pro. Oh, for you kids out there: these strings are NOT meant for standard tuning and they will not make you sound like Zakk Wylde but they might make you a better guitarist if used as intended. touring in the 80s I used GHS boomers GBCL, I stopped playing in the 90s and somehow ended up using EB hybrid slinkys. I found an old pack of boomers in a guitar case compartment i hadnt opened since 93. Somehow they were still fresh and strung up one of my guitars from the 80s. Wow, the wound strings EAD (or C# G# C# my tuning) are definitely Louder and breakthrough more than the wound EBs… (the plain steel sounded identical). There are soooooooo many fake garbage and laughable opinions on guitar products these days on the tube that I decided to do my own experiment to confirm what I was hearing. I proceeded to purchase 26 packs of these GHS boomers GBCL (which are the wound strings from a 10s set and the plain strings from a 9s set). Using 2 identical guitars (even color), Logic X via a PreSonus FireStudio input, dunlop red acrylic 1.5mm pick and as consistent as possible pick of each strings. The only difference was that each guitar had a new set of strings, one got GHS boomers GBCL and the other ErnieBall HyBrid Slinkys. I averaged the 12 picks of each string by merging the 12 waveforms into a single track for each guitar for each string, the wound strings of the GHS boomers were clearly louder, rang longer by at least 7.2, 5.9, 4.6 seconds respectively (tuned toC#, G#, C#). the Plain Steel string waveforms were virtually Identical between the sets though. If you arent sure what this tuning is, its simply DropD half a step down (aka dropC#). Plugged into a Dual Rectifier, Laney and a Vetta, on a high gain channel you get this Extra Gain that breaks through, so needless to say ill be back to using GHS boomers GBCLs on all my guitars!!!thundercab

D'addario EJ26 Phosphor Bronze guitar strings are very good. I have played this strings for years. D'addario is a very trusted brand among guitar players. They are always consistent great sound and playability. They are comfortable on the fingers and they last a good while. The longevity of strings all depends on how much and how often you play. I have used various D'Addario strings since the early 80s. I was 'aware' of them in the 70s but I typically used Fender strings on electrics and Martin on acoustics. I have always maintained that D'Addario strings are cheap, plentiful, and get the job done. The argument could be made that there are better strings out there ("boutique" strings) but D'Addarios are available in any music store and they are consistently good. I think I only had one or two sets where the unwound strings were nasty…. they looked 'kinked' and didn't sound right. One or two sets out of how many hundreds of sets?? As to these particular strings, I have a 1947 Gibson L-5 and it just feels more 'right' with caveman strings. I'm not one of those 30s rhythm players that go runka chunka all day long, I play it like any other guitar, and it begs for heavy strings. D'Addario has them available….not everyone does, ya know. I bought these for a Little Martin, which was recommended to me as the best way to introduce Nashville tuning to my repertoire, as the smaller scale takes better to high-string tunings. Nashville tuning is sort of a studio trick most often used as a doubling of a standard guitar in order to achieve a 12-string or natural chorusing effect with less playing effort, more mixing possibilities, and no worries about having to down-tune to D to avoid neck or bridge issues due to the tension of most 12-strings (other than Guild models). There aren't many choices for pre-configured Nashville sets (many people put theirs together from individual strings), but this set seems the best balanced of what's available, and is especially designed to work well on short-scale guitars like the Little Martin series. I just wish they also made this in an 80/20 formulation, as I am starting to prefer how that metal combination blends with other instruments in the mix vs. the more modern phosphor bronze formulation. But one could always use 80/20 on the main guitar and get an even richer sound when blended with this phosphor bronze set.

I'm always looking for "my" strings… after removing some Elixir nanoweb lights and putting these on my Taylor 224ce-K DLX, its like a dream to play, great tone that makes me just want to keep on playing… the bottom end isn't as strong as the Elixirs, but it's not bad, smooth across the strings. I didn't notice any more projection, but I figured that was marketing woo anyhow and wasn't looking for that. For more projection just increase the gage and go to mediums or larger… They seems much more evenly balanced for this guitar than the $Elixirs. I'd say they are well worth a shot if you haven't found strings that suit you… I'll be buying these for awhile I think. The one minor difference I did notice from the Elixirs, other than a little less bottom end punch, is the EB strings grab your fingers more making sliding a little more difficult, but this helps plant your fingers for cleaner notes, so I guess it's give and take, can't have it all… Overall I'd say they are top notch stuff equal to or better than anything out there.Rob

I installed these on an Ibanez pn1 parlor guitar that was experiencing muddiness on the low end with the 80/20 strings i had previously put on. I had been using Ernie Ball Slinky sets and was still a fairly new player at the time, so I was trying to discover my sound. I put these strings on my Epiphone G-400. Tonally, the strings were pretty responsive and could really sing. However, I didn't like the fact that I had to crimp the wound strings due to the round core wire. It's just extra work, and I hate restringing as it is. Another problem: String breakage. Out of all the string brands I've tried, none of them have been as prone to breaking as DRs. Good tone shouldn't come at the cost of weak strings. Ernie Balls not only cost less, but their overall quality has been superior so far. Sorry, DR.

I have used Ernie Ball Slinkys since I started playing guitar (time that can be measured in decades, that's all I say). I have been through other top brands, and just don't like them. I have gotten to know EB strings to the point where I can nearly predict when they'll break. That's good in my book. The lively tone and intonation stays for a LONG time. And they're good enough to scrape clean and, in the word of Billy Idol, Start Again. Well, that beats boiling them (RIP EVH). I use these for tuning down to B standard and they are perfect with or without a tremolo. They feel firm enough, but not too tight and make for easy shredding. I wouldn't suggest going lower than B standard, but they would probably still hold the up well in A# or even A standard. I don't tune down lower than B and wouldn't know how well they do going lower. I get a lot of good old school death metal tones with these stings. I've tried a lot of different strings and these are the only ones that really are made for lower tunings. They do their job, sound great and last a very long time. It's very simple really. You put them on, stretch them out a little, tune up and you're in knee deep in metal \m/Foul Phil
I first used DDTs on my 4 string bass. I put this particular set on a Peavy Strat clone and it's sitting in BEADC right now will full string tension. Of note is the need for less extra string on the lower two since the "EAD" (or BEA in my case) are fundamentally light bass strings and you probably won't have enough room for a proper wrap due to the smaller machine heads.Jared

It has a very fundamental tone, good for mahogany guitars. But on rosewood guitars, it may kill off the overtones, which may not be right for some people. Recommended on larger guitars rather than small ones. They do last quite a long time, which helps justify the high price to an extent.J A.
recently asked curt mangan to make me up a custom set of round core monel strings in 12 string configuration. What a great set of strings. I loved monel strings on my maple bodied guitars. But when i saw they had round core available i ordered a set of 6 string strings. They were so good ,i asked about a 12 string set. They dont offer them as of yet, but rep. said they could make me up a set. i askedfor 10- 48,s round core monels, …What a great set of strings. My guild F 412 has always been a stunner tone wise with monel strings. But the round core monels enhanced that 5 x,s .. I put these on my Gibson J-55 and man what a difference over the phosphor bronze that came stock. I have yet to put them on my '29/'31 L3 or Custom Shop martin 0018, but I really adore the sound on my J-55. The J-55 has an Adirondack top, mahogany back/sides and is essentially a Gibson version of a Martin D-18 without the super boomy low end. I love these strings and they really bring out the natural woody tone of the guitar, which is how it should be in my opinion. After using these I really like the sound, and in a weird way I'm closer to that guitar than I ever was before, the phosphor bronze that were on the guitar were just too bright and metallic, I prefer the natural earthy tones. I put this guitar in different tunings and these strings really open it up there and in standard tuning as well. I can't wait to put these on my Martin 000, I just got it so the strings on it are fresh but they're 80/20s and I really don't like them. You can't go wrong with these strings. I'm going to be using them on my acoustics forever. Just vintage, natural, woody earthy tones and I couldn't be happier!Antonio

I received a set of these as a gift, have had them installed for about 3 weeks. I'm a lifelong Ernie Ball user and love the brightness of the wound strings that the newer, higher output versions like Cobalts and M-Steels have. These DR's are about equal as far as sound characteristics, but superior to the EB's when it comes to intonation and staying in tune. They come with 3 extra plain strings and the fact that they're less expensive is a plus, but price isn't the deciding factor for me… I'll pay good money for gear as long as it's high quality…Spruce Creeker
