I was really surprised at how good this amp sounds. Years ago I tried Line 6 and was not at all happy with the tone; but this is another story. It does take me awhile to dial in a specific classic rock tone, but when I do, it sounds better than any other amp that I've tried. I have tried the Marshall Code, Blackstar id Core, Vox Valvetronix, Boss Katana; as well as some all tube amps. The only other amp that is a close 2nd is the Fender Mustang GTX; also a great amp. The Spider V is fairly easy to operate. It offers lots of choices for amp models and cabinets. I like that it has variations of a mic'd cabinet. The parametric eq is a plus. I haven't played around too much with the effects yet, so I can't comment on that. The only negative thing I could say is that when you're editing a preset and want to hear how it sounds before you save it, you only have a short time before it goes back to the Home Screen. This really is a small price to pay for the quality of the amp and all the versatility it has. I like the App too. Musicians Friend got me a great on this as well; and their agent is following up making sure that I'm satisfied. The funny thing is that I came across this by accident. I placed an order for a Peavey amp that was on back order. I called Peavey multiple times, but they never returned my call. I also emailed them, but they didn't respond to that either. As far as I'm concerned, Peavey doesn't have any customer support.crrkr
Been playing about a year, so my review is from the perspective of a complete newbie. The things I like- Lots of presets, mobile app functions, computer interface, and loads of user created effects available. Nice and loud, but no real basis of comparison to say if clarity is better or worse than other comparable amps. Don't likes- The micro-usb interface. I had to get an adapter and it's just not as good a connection as nearly anything else would be. IMHO, micro-usb is far too flimsy. Connecting to PC is far more problematic than just using the spider mobile app. It's probably a little more complicated than it should be for a beginner, but it's feature rich for the money.Nic T
I had a Line 6 120w amp for years that I regrettably sold a while ago and was looking for another amp. I looked at all the amp reviews I could find and decided that the new Katana was the way to go. I got the Katana home and absolutely loved it but the second day I had it it started a really loud buzzing that I couldn't stop. It probably was an easy fix but the fact is the amp was way too powerful for my purposes and their software wasn't compatible with the new Catalina OS. I returned and started looking again. I saw the 60w Spider V and the price was excellent so I made an on the spot decision to buy another Line 6 and I'm really glad I did. The tones this amp can get are incredible. There are so many amp models and cabs that you can dial in pretty much any tone you want from a crispy snapback country clean to the most vicious heavy metal and everything in between. You can use the presets as they are or you can use them as a baseline and tweak to your own liking or you can start from scratch and build your own rig from the ground up. The controls are intuitive and easy to use but there are some features where you'd have to be a professional to really know how to use or even care to use. The software and the mobile app are so easy to use and give you all the options at your fingertips. The amp comes with a lot of presets that I find are completely useless but there are a lot that are excellent as I already talked about. There are only four empty slots for your own custom presets and I wish there were more but if you use the mobile app you can have your own tone library on there. I bought the FBV3 foot controller so that gives me a lot of flexibility to have various effects. One of the limitations is the lack of good effects though. There's enough that if you work at it you can get a decent sound but there could be some better ones. Overall I would recommend the amp. Don't listen to the naysayers or the amp snobs, it's a quality amp and extremely versatile.Just Plain Joe

I gotta tell you…this little amp has very much impressed me in ONE way; it is very clean. This is my first experience with the Acoustic brand, and I am pleased, and have become a fan. I got mine as a display model at Guitar Center to play solely with my acoustic/electric Fender T-Bucket 300CE—and it sounds absolutely phenomenal (but only through the clean channel). This is an electric guitar practice amp; but I didn't realize that when I bought it, because of the brand name (yah…35 years of playing and I'm still that stupid, LOL)—I thought it would be a good 20 watt "acoustic/electric" amp, and my misunderstanding turned out to be a blessing. Obviously the 'drive' channel is gonna sound horrible with an acoustic/electric…I hated it, and never tried it a second time. The clean channel is fantastic though. Just out of curiosity (since it IS an electric guitar amp), I plugged in one of my Fender Stratocaster's, and THAT blew me away on the clean channel, yet still disappointed me on the drive side…so it's my conclusion that the drive channel sucks on this amp regardless of guitar type. With either acoustic/electric or just electric guitar on the clean channel, there is no hum, no pop, no squeal, no noise what-so-ever whether the guitar is being played or sitting with full volume. It is dead quiet until you hit them strings, and then it sings like an Angel. If you want distortion (at any volume), there are better amps in this price range. If clean is your thing, and 20 watts is plenty for you (it can be mic'd if needed)….then I don't think you can do better than this amp. It's amazing. On a side note, I am so impressed with this Acoustic brand amp using an acoustic/electric, that I just ordered an Acoustic A1000 today as a Christmas gift to myself…and I plan to buy another one of these G20's to have TWO as powered monitors (because the A1000 is capable of running two output's). I was solely a Fender guy (guitars and amps), but Acoustic made me re-think.White Dog
I have had this small amp for about a year now. I needed something for practice, and I thought I'd try an Acoustic amp only because at one point I had an indestructible 1970's vintage 100W 12×2 Acoustic that I developed a fondness for. At this price I wasn't expecting much at all, but not only is this little guy is great for at-home practice or rehearsals, it also has enough volume to consider for other uses, and the noise floor on the clean channel is quiet enough to mic. or to record with. The lead channel, by contrast, is extremely noisy no matter what you do, and you can't get decent tone out of it anyway. The G20 has a very good EQ, but there are no effects, which is okay for me because everything else I'd ever want would be on the pedal board. The build appears to be rock solid, it has held up well over time, and the look and feel is of a higher quality than the price would suggest. After buying this, I also bought an Acoustic B30 bass amp – it too is built like a tank, and I like the B30 even better. The long and short is that the G20 amp is great if you intend to use the clean channel by itself or in conjunction with pedals. If, for some reason, you need to push a button on the amp to add dirt, you would probably be much better off to spend more on a different amp, maybe something with tubes…… If you need a solid little practice amp and you don't care about on board effects, this would be a very good option.

Overall: Why is the JCM 800 regarded as one of, if not to some the greatest Marshall ever made? Plug in and see. While there are few knobs you still can find a large range of classic tones. From really nice cleans to that classic Marshall gain that the 800 is known for. I will not compare originals to this 20 watt rerelease. Although the only thing I will say is that you don't need a power soak to get that classic tone, you will not go deaf getting it, yet you can overpower your drummer in the 20 watt mode. I put a Boss Super Overdrive in front of the amp and crank the drive, and out comes the tones of Ride the Lightning and Piece of Mind. Get an overdrive to go with it if you want the heavier side of classic metal. Just get oneJohn
If your looking around you may see this same review on another sight because I love the amp that much. I have always wanted a JCM 800 but didn't want to have to use an attenuator to play a 50 or 100 watt amp at the house. This amp is awesome and you'll love cranking the gain and ringing out cords. I find myself constantly ringing out G cords and just listening to its growling beauty. I want to address some comments made from others on the internet… Some argue it doesn't sound like the original 100 watt JCM 800. If you're splitting hairs there is a slight difference when playing in 5 watt mode vs 20 watt mode. 5 watt is excellent, 20 watt is the bomb! 20 watt seams to provide a little more clarity in the sound. Best sound I've ever heard! That said I still use 5 watt mode most of the time so it's still great to my ears. I'm only mentioning this slight difference because that's possibly the reason some say it's not like the 100 watt older brother. Side by side they may be right. But I would want the 100 watts of noise anyway. I bought the 2/12 cabinet that pairs with it. I play at my house and have yet to turn the master volume up to even half way because it's that loud. So playing with a band or in a club would be no sweat for this amp. This amp gives you the sounds of all the hard rock played in the 70's and 80's and 90's. Want to play zeppelin, Bad Company, AC/DC, Aerosmith, Motley, or Greenday or Zakk Wylde? This amp does them all to a T. I love it and very happy to have it in the collection. Overall: I’ve tried a multitude of Marshall amps through the years and never found one that worked for me. Based on others I heard I knew I would like the JCM 800 but didn’t feel like going deaf to get that great tone. But now Marshall has created a JCM 800 that makes sense for a gigging musician. Here’s why: (1) It sounds the way I’ve always felt a Marshall should sound like. (2) It sounds great at 5 watts and is loud enough at 20 watts to be heard over our hard hitting drummer. I mean for 20 watts it is stinking LOUD. And I mean that in the best possible way. And (3) It is relatively light and portable to move to gigs which matters at my age lolDon’t listen to people that tell you this amp is a one trick pony. Lots of great tones here and it cleans up well using the volume knob on your guitar. It’s a simple amp that gets incredible tone when cranked. Thank you, Nick at SxFlls Guitar Center! Having told me that he has heard nothing but good things about this amp, I ordered it on the spot. upon receiving, I noticed the quality of build. With a humbucker in the neck position Tele, I immediately dialed in a gorgeous lush attack.. Rolled back the volume, and amplifier responded with a delicious and spacious rhythm tone. Single coil bridge pickup kicked in a spank and yet round full on Tele attack. But the middle position, it was so full of bottom end beef and top end sparkle, thanks to the amps internally bridged channels. I've never tried a Randall before. I use a PRS Archon and an MT15. I've used peavey ultras and 6505, EVHiii 6L6. Right off the bat, the clean channel is very forgettable. The dirty channel is a tight and very responsive metal tone. It is pretty much one flavor, tone. Great sharp rock tones, add a boost and get massive tight metal tones. I got a great deal on this amp and was very happy when I played with my own gear at home. It sounds very similar to Olas tone from his old Randall Satan vids. It's got that Fortin tone. The loop is decent. I'm running an oceans11, the RV6 had a harder time dialing in. With my Orange 212 it sounds really thick and tight. The Mesa212 (overrated) didn't take it as well until you really gave it juice. Only swapping out boost pedals give me a little variation in tones, but it will sound the same overall. Maybe an EQ would give more options. But for what it is, I love it. It's easy to use, has a noticeably better metal tone than many amps in its weight class. This amp has been out a while but IMO is does metal much better than the EVH and 6505. It's tighter than my Archon and much easier to dial in than the MT. It looks brutal. I got it at half the price of an EVH 50watt, no joke. It's not going to sound like a Randall Satan with options and 120 or so watts of roar, but it's close. I've tried with the 33 and Zuul. Brutal. Currently running it with a Waza SD1 and am getting tight, buttery tones. It took a HD precision drive very well also. I would say not having separate EQ for cleans sucks but That's not why I got this amp. Home use/practice recording.Ghostpuncher
This amp absolutely surprised me, some reviews on YouTube didn't have the best audio quality, but don't let that steer you away. I'm using this thing with a Boss SD-1, and let me tell you, this thing is CHUNKY. I was actually able to get some Metallica-esque tones out of this thing, and some really nice cleans, even a really solid bluesey tone driving the front with the od. Not that this thing is LOUD, and I don't even have any neighbors so I like to practice loud. Sounds a little muffled at "bedroom" volume but this thing reeally opens up, I'm sure you could do a bunch with an eq in the loop., Overall couldn't be more satisfied. Woke up to this thing on my doorstep and I've barely been able to put my guitar down.Stretch
I bought this wanting an amp with more gain for harder styles of music. I wanted a tube amp also. This fit the bill. I have the Diavlo 1×12 cab with a V30, and that sounds fantastic combined with this amp. If you think it can only do metal, think again – the clean channel can be pretty clean. Then when you go to the gain channel and set the boost on, you get hair and you don't need a pedal to get good hair. In fact, the pedal I tried with it (Line 6 M13) did not play well at all with this amp. So luckily you really don't need a pedal for it. They really should make the tubes a bit easier to get at for changing them out and setting the bias. It can be done but I wouldn't say it will be "easy" by any means. The stock Ruby tubes are surprisingly not bad in this amp. However I changed them out right away for Electro Harmonix tubes and for me, those sound better. If you are just a head banger death metal guy, the Rubies might be even better for you. I really love the tone from this beast. Clean it's really good and the hairy stuff is exactly what I was looking for. The corksniffers will disagree, but you don't HAVE to spend a fortune to get an all tube amp that delivers fantastic tone.Mr Bukkake

I was looking for a tube amp head and a 112 cab. Like a lot of people I don't have a ton of money to spend, but I wanted something that would work for what I do. When I got the amp it worked and as advised a let the power tubes warm up before I used it. this is a list of features I really like. 1. A good built in reverb. 2. An effect loop. 3. A switch for 4,8 and 16 Ohm speakers. 4. Came with a foot switch that that controls the channels and turn the reverb on or off 5. Two channels. A clean and a dirty. 6. Responsive tone and volume knobs. 7. Four pre-amp and two power-amp tubes. 8. The Infinity self bias feature for changing tubes. 9. One of the best clean channels I've ever used on a tube amp. 10. Works very well with pedals and effects units. 11. A indicator in back to let you know if the tubes need to be replaced. 12. A great price for a 50 watt all tube amp. 13. Looks great, almost like a Vox Night Train(which I believe Bugera modeled this after). 14. Works extremely well with the Burgera 112TS cab. Great cab by the way. 15. Has a fat switch which is helpful for people using single coil pickups in their guitars. These are the thing I didn't care for. 1. A fairly bad dirty channel. It tends to get fizzy sounding when bring up the gain. 2. The Tone Cut Knob in my opinion is pretty much useless. It kill your tone and sounds like a wet blanket was put over the speaker or speakers. Maybe if you use it slightly I could see a use for it, but you're better off using your EQ and/or adding an EQ to your effects loop. 3. The stock tubes aren't that good, but then again you can't except much for an inexpensive tube amp. I love and enjoy playing different kinds of music, but I love my metal :). I put in a set of GT 6L6GEs, a EH 12AX7 in V1, a Tung Sol 12 AX7 in V2, a EH 12AX7 in V3 and a EH 12AX7 in V4. This cleaned up the fizzy sound and tightened up my tone, but you still need separate overdrive and compression to put this amp in modern metal territory.Realmofreal
I have had the G20 for a couple of weeks and it has exceeded my expectations. I have had over a dozen amps in the past few decades, mostly solid state combos. One exception is an Orange Micro Dark hybrid I still own. This is my first all tube amp, and to me, the G20 provides "better" tones than any of my others. The G20 feels well built, with metal knobs & switches, solid connectors, and nice tolex with everything straight. The Morph knob adds great variety and tone controls work well. I have played it through 3 similar 1×12 open-back pine cabinets with Celestion Rocker 50, V-Type, and WGS ET-65 speakers. It sounds different with each one providing their own character. My previous right-angle instrument cable did not fit well with the input location and upgrading with a straight Kirlin cable was a noticeable improvement. The amp sounds good with a 1994 Fender Am.Std. Strat – getting nice clean and bluesy tones. Mostly, I've played a 2014 GLP Studio with 490s. With the Gain at 12 o'clock & Volume on 10, the Overdrive channel provides a nice, well, overdrive. The cleans are nice – clear and chimey. With Clean Volume at 3 o'clock, to match the gain settings when channel switching, it gets a bit dirty when guitar volume approaches 10. The Master allows you to get the tone you like and adjust the volume. With the above settings, the Master on 1, the amp is pretty loud in a 24' x 16' room. I have found it responsive to volume and tone adjustments on the guitar and pick attack. The reverb seems good (set on 1), but the cabinets with their location provide a certain amount of reverb so I have a hard time telling how effective it is otherwise. I really like this amp! It is quiet and can produce a variety of very nice guitar tones. I'm hoping the Infinium technology eases future tube changes and lets me know when it is needed. I will be using the amp at home so can't speak to its roadworthiness or relative loudness in a band setting. Worth checking!C-ville Brent
Got this as B stock, and since I repair amps, I took this amp apart and tested the tubes. The tubes are Tung Sol reissue copies and they sound great—let them break in first, give it about four or five months of intermittent use. You'll be very pleased with the results, I can tell you, the sound stage and head room are outstanding, the EL-34's positively purr! I had to remove the lead free solder from all of the tube sockets, as they turned out to be cold solder joints (ergo, why I got a deal on the amp, as a B stock customer return.) I used leaded solder and since I have been soldering for over 43 years of my life, the work turned out very nicely… Surprise! The amp sounded far, far better than it had originally, if you have the skills with solder wick and a soldering iron, give it a shot, you won't regret it!! 99% of the problems with these amps are simply due to the tube sockets being hand soldered incorrectly, the main board, which is wave soldered, is 100% perfect, even with the lead free solder used. The Fender to Marshall ISF pot works, interesting tones produced by this, you'll enjoy the results… The PC boards use surface mounted components, for the most part, so don't buy this amp thinking that you can modify it that easily, you can't and it really is not necessary, the amp sings fine, just as it is!ejmendoza

It's a nice little amp head. It sounds great, looks great, and built with quality. Ive played around with it for about an hour now and tried out all the effects. The Metal and Redline effect are super heavy and sound excellent. I am running it to a 2×10 60w cab for right now. However, my complaint is that it would easy to believe there is a 1×8 speaker in the amp… since it literally says that in the specifications. So I plug in the power, plug in the bcrich and nothing. Which is fine cuz I got it for a 1×12 cab I'm building. But it would be easy to be mislead so look out for that. Other than that I really like it so far and I'm impressed with sound and quality!Spaz
Great little amp that has a really nice clean sound with built in spring reverb control. Aso has tone controls knobs for low, mid and highs and 4 built-in effects; I like 3 of them, the overdrive, distortion and Reline effects, the metal sound is meh and will probably never use it. I got a Livewire 2-way foot switch and works well with this. I recommend this amp.Mike

The guitar kit came in fairly quickly, but right away there was a problem. It came with five strings, with what was left of the sixth stuck in the guitar, the tuner was shattered, and the kit was missing the Allen wrenches and the picks. The box was loosely packed with no styrofoam or anything, with the guitar in the gig bag and the rest of the stuff thrown into the pocket besides the amp. Seems like it was either a rushed job, or all come boxed like that. The guitar plays alright once the strings were replaced, but it loses tuning pretty quick. Theres obvious signs of neglect such as body chips near the neck, and scratches on the pick guard. The finish on the guitar is pretty nice, and it feels alright in the hands. I wouldnt recommend if you expect everything to come as described in the picture though.jonaba4165
Great little set for beginners or even intermediates as you get the whole package. The tuner is very nice and works well. Everything to get started and the guitar itself feels very solid and has better than average settings for the sounds you'd want. The extra strings were fine but I'm adding a better quality set which I already had anyway. Either way you can't go wrong on this package. The amp has good settings and sounds nice. Below are two reviews out of five that mentioned hiss from the amp. Unfortunately, I ignored the warnings. They are correct. I received the amp today and before plugging in and with all pots cranked left (off) as they are right out of the box, I powered up to hear a very audible hiss. Not good. This is not a 60 cycle hum and has nothing to do with bad power or ground loops. It is amp hiss which cannot be rectified. I bought the amp to place in front of my couch pointing at me to practice at low volumes with effects. My ears are bothered by the constant unclean sound at these low volumes. If the amp had a mic on it for stage work, the hiss would definitely be heard when not playing and possibly within the music. I am disappointed at myself for not taking those reports seriously. I did so because I trusted the brand and because the design of the amp seemed perfect for my needs. The amp otherwise is really sweet. The effects are usable and the EQ is very sensitive with fantastic range. It also delivers brilliant highs and soothing warm low end. It is a powerful 20 watts and my baritone ukulele sounds wonderful through it. But the hiss … it never stops. It is never clean even with the volume off. I really wanted to keep this amp, but I will be returning it and looking towards a Roland or Fishman both offering higher wattages which I do not need, not to mention the much higher price points. The experience is a bummer but I have faith in MF's return policy and honest service.Scottie
I was looking for a small amp with some bells & whistles to use for all sorts of applications, but not spend a bundle. This model fit the bill perfectly. Unfortunatley all it's great features can't out-weigh the "hiss" sound all the other reviewers are complaining about. I took a chance and ordered an open box model which was noisy just like all the other reviews mentioned. MF sent me a brand new one and it was just as noisy. I am now awaiting a third amp hoping it's from a different batch. I can't believe that Acoustic would allow an entire crop of amps circulate with such poor sound quality. I have owned the Acoustic A20 for a few weeks. I am a long time player/musician. This amp is pretty good as a bedroom shed amp for acoustics with pickups. You can get a clear sound with enhancements, like more bass or reverb. Retains the "acousticy" quality way better than some electric guitar amp. I have tried it with Takamine classical & steel string, Eastman archtop & flattop. The amp provides a pretty good sound for all. Not enough power for an actual gig. I was not expecting that, so OK. No good for an electric archtop; too distorted. Biggest bummer for me: no gain setting/preamp. To get a decent volume from some guitars, turn this amp up to "10". Or, use an external preamp. Also, the feedback elimination works OK, two knobs. But, even with "level" on "0", the other knob still has a big effect on the sound. Just saying. Poor design there. Reverb is cheesy but better than nothing. Chorus same; adds feedback. Borderline useless. I like the amp for the $$; but it is not some pro gear. Good for light home practice use only.reviewer

Huge sounding and a lot of power for such a small amp. The Spark Control App gives you loads of choices from classic sounds to the most modern of amps out there today. You also have tons of effects to use in conjunction with all of these modeled amp choices. All of these possibilities can be saved as your own personal presets which can endlessly be tweaked to make you sound and play your best. You can also use the Jam Along feature which syncs to iTunes, Spotify, etc. while also displaying the chord changes as you play. The amp is awesome. Well built and solid, very pleasant to look at, easy to use and the sound! Oh man, the sound of that little amp is just beyond belief. Full and rich, it fills the room as though it were five times the size. With the app on my android phone, fine tuning the sound is easy and intuitive, and you can save your sounds as presets if you wish. But even without using the app, the presets that ship with the amp are simply stellar. In my opinion, the amp is well worth the price.Richard L.

Hey there, ya'll! this retro-styled guitar research vl-20 in rockin' red is in excellent condition, with only minor blemishes. she's the big sister to the more common vl-10 and runs at 19 watts. you get a three-band eq, overdrive switch, gain control and a volume control. also a headphone jack and, somewhat unusual for an small amp like this, you get a footswitch jack too. controls are on top, mostly closed back, four sturdy rubber feet, and a led power indicator. megatone speaker; about 8" i reckon. approximately 12" x 12" x 6.5" and about 13 pounds.the vl-20's got a cool, unique look and a practical design. unlike a lot of amps this size, the clean sound is on the darker side. dark, but clear and not muddy. with my joe barden equipped thinline tele, the clean sound starts breaking up around 6 on the volume knob and it's not a bad distortion sound. the overdrive switch delivers cray-cray distortion and, if you want, plenty of compression and feedback. for recording purpose…
