Sound: I bought the Ampeg Microvr Head originaly with one Ampeg 2-10" cabinet as a part of matched set, as most people do – about three months a later I bought another cabinet – so now I'm often running two of the same cabinets and the head together. When you plug in the second cabinet the rig gets noticeably louder in this set up, and also appears to have a much more deeper bass tone(if you want it). Adding the second cabinet added $300 to my rig – but if you can afford it, the sound is far superior to just the single cabinet, and gives you a lot of flexiblity. For smaller indoor venues like playing bass behind people with pugged in acoustic guitars, I run the head with just one cabinet and it sounds fine – both tone and volume wise. When I playing along with a drummer most of the time I opt for using two cabinets rather than just one. At higher volumes – like playing with a drummer it just sound stronger and fuller in every respect than by using just the single 2 10" cabinet. I'm either running a recent custom C.F. Martin Acoustic/ Electric Bass guitar, or a Fender Precession Bass, through the rig – depending on who and what I'm playing on music wise. It works excellent with either instrument and I am very happy with the set up. Even with just one cabinet you won't be dissapointed. Features: Happy with everything that it came with feature wise. Didn't like the stock power cord that came with because it was very stiff and hard to wind up – Ampeg should switch vendors and get a power cord supllier that could offer them a more felxible cord of the same quality that you cound wind up easier. Ease of Use: Tone controls are easy to figure out and use. Rear connections on the amp are simple, straight forward and easy to use, and hook things up. I often use a Martin acoustic bass guitar with this rig – so I use a Fishman DI preamp in between my bass and the amp – this being done basically to help control feedback at higher volumes (especially when playing out door gigs) and to fine tune the tone on the acoustic bass a bit more. My Fender bass sounds fine with out the Fishman preamp and the controls on the amp head work well with it – giving you many mutiple tone combinations depending on how you set them. Also my Fender fretless bass sounds really good through the amp and the matched speaker that you will most likely buy with the head. Quality: Quality seems very high. After about two years of owning and active giging – it is holding up extremely well. Over the last year or so I have taken it out on local gigs about twice a week, So it's been out of my house more than a hundred times so far, and there haven't been any issues so far – all this in all kinds of weather and temperatures. I had black vinyl covers made for the head (from a custom amp cover innernet company)and for both speaker cabinets as soon as I bought everything – so even aften trucking the units all over the place for quite awhile now they still all look fresh and brand new. The power cord that came with it was very stiff and always hard to roll up – so I bought an after market cord on a website cord supplier that was more flexible and easier to wind up. I've used the after market power cord every since. The head has a fan in the back that runs whever the unit is powered up, that when you first get the amp drives you crazy – because it appears to sound so loud. Truth is though while you may hear it running in your house when practing – you never do at gigs. At any gig the room and enviroment background noise easily drown it out right away – you just never hear the fan running at all. When I first got it I though something was wrong with the fan – there wasn't. Its an Ampeg thing – that is the low fan noise in a quiet background setting. Keeps everything cool inside the head – so you can certainly live with it. I got used to it after awhile and don't even notice it anymore. No one has ever commented to me anywhere about any fan noise coming from my amp. So don't think something is wrong with the fan when you first get the head. Value: The original outlay (about $600 for the head and one matching cabinet) is a bit steep compared to several other small bass amps on the market out there – but you get what you pay for I guess. Due to the price saddly – alot of bass players might not be able to buy one and will go with something cheaper out there. Before buying this I looked around for about two months at other rigs on the innernet, at music stores, and at othet musicians' bass rigs when watching them perform. This unit was replacing a Hartke Kickback 12 – which I used for about three years for the same type of smaller gigs – which is for more low volume type of dealsthat I play at – where you don't have to worry about shaking the room and making the paint peel of the walls when you hit your low E string on something like Springsteen's "Pink Cadillac". Sound: I own the Microvr amp and 2 210svtav cabs. I bought the second cab after I got the Mircovr set up. The sound sound you get from this things for the money blows anything else out their out of the water. To get the rated 200watts performance you need a 2nd cab as the load with one cab is 8 ohms at 150 watts. Light weight portability and small footprint size are a plus especially if your space chanllenged. This thing rocks. Features: This is a no frills set up. Has what you need to have great sound with a headphone jack to play practice in a low noise enviroment. Ease of Use: It has a 3 band eq section that you can dial in easy to find a sound you like. Its no svtpro 7 but for the money you will not find a better amp in its class. Quality: This amp is made solid. Mimics the old school look of the 70s svt lineup. Value: With anything you purchase you wish you could get it for less thats just the way it is. But for the money you will not find a better sounding and well made rig in this class. The Microvr and 210 svtvr cab set up is da bomb. If you want portability light weight and the best sound get this AMPEG. Manufacturer Support: I have had no issues with this amp. Decent sound running my acoustic bass through it. Buzzes a little with the low frequencies but somewhat imperceptible playing live. Battery life has been good for several hours. The HOG has a cool look that sets it apart from most. My HOG was pre-owned and not sure how old it is but the The amp was bigger and heavier than expected but still very portable. Rechargeable batteries are a great idea. Someday when they finally wear out for good, the replacement cost is very low. Mine was sold with the caution that the pots are scratchy, which they are. But that is something I intend to work on myself and learn a few things in the process. The surprising thing (and my favorite thing) is the full, warm tone. Much better than expected, and quite suitable for home recording. This HOG will be with me for a long time.glennbuck2005
In my previous 4-star review, I didn't have a chance to play out with other musicians. Now I have, and I give this amp 5 stars. Other players have commented how clear and easy to hear this amp is. Each bass string is reproduced with equal volume. I use it with a Guild acoustic bass guitar, and that combination gives a pretty good simulation of an upright bass. Not identical, but certainly adequate for outdoor jams. Indoors, the amp provides more than enough volume and fullness. The amp is light enough to carry easily to gigs, holds its charge well, and is simple to use. Nice job, Pignose!Bruce

I use one of these for my nylon string Godin Multiac. I blend the nylon with a GR33 synth and run both signals into this amp on the clean channel. The issue I've always had with amplified nylon string guitars is the 'plucky' or 'plasticy' sound of them through guitar amps. This bass amp solved the problem for me. With the amp's treble and bass rolled off completely I can get a very round clear tone by using the guitar's eq to provide the brightness. Very light and powerful, and an unexpected solution to a long-standing problem I've experienced. The electric violinist in the band tried his setup through my amp with almost identical settings and he bought one also! Works very well for bass also, in a small setting.Jan-Mikael
TLDR: BUY IT! I ordered this amp when I bought my very first bass. For years I was stuck with a school Ampeg Little Stud bass from 1973. The bass itself was 40 pounds, and for all of its vintage appeal, I was not impressed by its condition or playability. The amp was even worse. It was a Backline 112 that weighed 50 pounds, and when I performed with it in a school gymnasium with a capacity of a mere 400 people, nobody heard me playing. When I bought my bass I knew that I needed a new amp. Enter the Rumble 100. If this is your first amp, you might think this is a little pricey, but trust me, it is beyond worth it. I'm only 5'1", and while I could carry the heavy Ampeg bass and amp, it was starting to hurt my back. But this amp is incredibly light. I almost expected it to have zero bottom end. But when I played it, I was shocked. The sound was very well-supported, even if it's played with the bass, low, and mid down and treble all the way up (which I wouldn't recommend… I mean, it's a bass amp…) I've loved this amp ever since. But I'm not a "pro" yet, so let me tell you what some professional musicians thought when they saw my amp. I performed with a popular local brass band that has been together since 1980. Altogether they have 50+ years of touring and gigging experience. They're used to lugging some pretty heavy equipment. When I walked in to the auditorium, I had my bass case slung over my shoulder, my amp in my hands, and all my music nestled under my arm. Of course the stage crew at the door all thought that the tiny chick (me) was about to drop everything, so they rushed over to help me by picking up my amp. They went, "What? We're wondering where the inside went, Is this it?" They thought it would sound awful. But that night, in front of 2,000 people (and there was a bass solo), everybody said they could hear me perfectly. The design is simple, the onboard controls are very effective and not too complex, and it plays loud and proud without hurting you.Bass Clef Kid
Like the rest of the bass players out there I've used all of the major brands. From old-school Acoustic Control heads and cabs from the '70's, to Ampegs etc etc etc…Well I've reached the point where that level of stage volume isn't needed for what I'm doing now; I shopped around, and despite some of the amazing combos available, I landed on this one. Actually the guitar player in our band mentioned that he had bought the 50watt version of this. I played through it and was impressed. For me it's the ideal unit for what I'm doing now – I still play some heavy rock (Mountain, Cream, Cactus, Trower), but when volume is required we of course use the FOH and good monitors for stage support. Having the onboard direct out is the best as it allows me to go direct into whatever board is being used, whether live or recording. Don't be fooled by the small size; the size is a real asset in terms of portability. The head is where it all starts, and the tonal range is wide so you can dial in your sound. In a live situation there's plenty of lows, highs and depth of tone. Playing in various size venues is no problem – this will carry without going through FOH in churches, smaller bars & clubs (50-100 capacity). Larger venues or live situations where stage volume is needed for impact or performance, then my personal recommendation is to use this as a personal monitoring device and go through the PA & stage monitor as a direct through the board. One last thing; the amp sounds as good on 3 as it does on 7. Any more than than 7 and it starts pushing the speaker, and not in a good way. But I've had this for several months now, use it gigging and recording regularly and overall am simply satisfied with the purchase. Like everything, this amp has limitations. You're not going to get the punch or volume of a high powered rig, and you really shouldn't be using a combo for something like that. But whether you're a beginner, novice, or weekend warrior or pro this amp, as well as the rest of this product line, is a tremendous option.jb

I own the OG 6L6 50 Watt Fender EVH 5150, in addition to having owned every single (including all peaveys) variant of the 5150. The 5150 EL34 captures the more british extreme of the 5150 sound and manages to stay brutal and diverse. The concentric knobs were a great addition and the output balancing between channels helps even out channel switching. The amp's features in a 50watt package should be more than enough for semi-pro and professional musicians playing club-sized gigs without pro sound, or just about any venue scale with proper sound (the amp also has a preamp out signal as well). I got it with the matching cab and it's right up there with the OG 6L6 as my go-to amp. You won't regret it.
Got the 6L6 5150 Black Stealth last fall…it is incredible but there was something about this EL34 after watching several demos and deciding it needed to be home with its 6L6 Brother. The EL34 cleans are crystal like and pristine! Channel 2 has that grit, warmth, clarity yet buttery rock goodness! Channel 3 is excellent to round out and take the lead. This amp has been great in inspiration, performance and recording. It was more than I hoped for even with the positive reviews and demos. It is easy to dial in a sweet tone. In fact, I have done so blindly and it just makes each note resonate and stand out. I have it running through a JCM 1960 A cab. Together, they RAWK! Another awesome thing about this amp is the headphone jack for late night practice and you can get sweet tones without shaking the house unlike other amps of this nature. The green (clean) channel on this amp through the 2×12 cabinet is absolutely incredibly. Expressive, responsive, articulate, and full of character. I recently tried out a Divided by 13 LDW amp and was blown away by the clean tone. I had always considered myself a Fender/6V6 person until that point. That amp was already sold, was twice the price, and is impossible to come across. This amp is the only one I could find that has both the EL34s and 12AX7s, and has that same unique clean tone that's somewhere between a Marshall and Fender in all the right ways. I could do without the red channel entirely, and would prefer to have separate eq controls for the green and blue channels, but easy enough to compensate with a tone knob.Faisal

The Elf is like the Yoda of bass amps. Though it may be small, it is packed with the power of the force. I use this amp with a pair of the Trace Elliot 1×10 cabinets and it will easily cover 95% + of my gigging needs. The tone is classic TE and it is certainly loud enough (running at 200W) to keep up with an "average" rock band with a couple guitars and acoustic drums. Now, it's NOT going to make your trousers flap in the wind of excessive SPLs or send patrons running to the loo from super intense low frequency coming off the stage's backline but that's where the Elf's built-in Direct Out comes into play and it works and sounds great. Your audio tech will be duly impressed with your tone blasting out of the house (FOH) speakers. Many buy the Elf as a backup amp and because of its size and light weight that makes good sense but truthfully it can hold its own as a main amp. Well, certainly for my needs it can. I have owned Ampeg, Eden, SWR, Fender and a few other bass rigs. All were refrigerator-sized and weight. I plugged this little guy in along with the 208 cab and was totally blown away by the quality of the tone, the volume level and the size. The salesguy at the store even told me I was too loud. Put this baby smack in a corner of the stage and your presence is well felt and heard across the room. it won't knock your pants legs loose but it will be clean and powerful enough bass to be present amongst the other instruments. If you need anymore umph then the DI is a fantastic feature. The Elf puts out a really clean signal to the board. One con about the DI, there is no pre/post switch. I can imagine the components inside are packed like sardines so no more room for anything like that unless T E releases an Elf Mach II in the future. No Mute switch either. This unit is so lightweight and compact it's no issue to bring it along anywhere. Got rid of all of the refrigerator units to get the Elf with 2X8 cab. Well worth the investment. Just so small! Have this sat on top of a TC electronics BC 208 2×8 cabinet and whilst it's a bit too much for a home practice set up it's incredibly practical for home practice. Sounds great through the cabinet and can be stashed in a small space and moved around easily. Casting my memory back the first half decent combo I bought (back in the 1990s) was a Trace Elliot 1×15 with delivering about 130W. It weighed a ton. The Elf and 2×8 sounds every bit as good as the old combo (bit tighter, less rich low end from the cabinet) but moving it around is a breeze. If you're planning to use it only at home practice volumes be aware that although the fan noise is quiet, it is audible when playing at neighbour-friendly levels. Still five stars as there's no way to have 200W of power in such a compact unit without a fan and the fan is a very quiet fan.Ledgerwood C.

Evh 5150iii 100w stealth head and foot switch only. amp was bought new in november 2021 from sweetwater. amp has 10 hours or less of use. includes foot switch and power cord. the limited-edition, customized 100s is a different beast from the standard 5150 iii (an amazing amp in its own right). for the 100s, evh hand-selected eight jj ecc83 preamp and four wing c 6l6 output tubes. channel two has been re-voiced for improved low-midrange frequency definition, and it delivers more gain for greater sustain. there's also more gain available on channel three, along with an increased range on the low control. in addition, evh has given each channel a rear-panel resonance knob that lets you fine-tune your bottom-end response. these tweaks make what was already a killer amp, well, even more killer.

Ok first, the EVH 5150 IIIs Stealth in either 50 or 100 watt versions, is pretty much the holy grail of amps. Just an awesome sounding amp. And the EVH line of products will never let you down. The EVH line of products is Eddie’s legacy that he left for us. When you consider the quality and performance of all the EVH gear along with extraordinarily reasonable prices you just know that Eddie, in the last decade of his life wanted to share the things of his art with his fans and all aspiring guitarists, of all ages and income levels. Secondly, AMS just impresses me because of their wide selection and the fact that there has been things I’ve been trying to buy for months that every other music supplier doesn’t have and can’t get for months to come. There's lots of meat packed into the 5150-III Stealth's chassis, for sure! This may be "only" a 50W head, but it outweighs a couple of 100W heads I have. With selectable impedance (4/8/16), one can drive their choice of cabinets, or two, with its parallel outputs. NO problem pushing a full 4×12 cab to xmax (and Tinnitus). So is this the "5150 Sound?" I couldn't say, having never plugged into a legacy model. But taken at face value for what it is, this amp is definitely unique amongst others I own. Its "Green" channel being the least aggressive, is NOT a "Clean" channel, per se – but CAN run clean (and very dry). Sharing bi-level controls with Orange channel, gives one options. I suppose. But not really… Blue channel is what this amp's all about IMO, and I'm glad it gets it's own set of dials. I doubt I'll ever run this thing NOT on Blue channel. Twist the Gain & Volume knobs each past 40% – that sound is worth the price of admission! It's a seriously BEEF piece of hardware! Without taking it apart, the 5150-III 6L6 Stealth looks and feels to have a solid build quality. It's input / output tubes are cleanly displayed behind front & rear grilles. Again, there is an impedance switch, and parallel speaker jacks out back; along with a bias test point / adjustment. Weirdly, the Presence dial, Power and Standby switches are also out back. I really wish the Standby switch, at least, wasn't – this being my only qualm.Jay

Holy cow, how the Rumble series have come into their own! Back when I last played music the Rumble series was kind of naff but this has really grown up! I'm told the 40w is the lowest power Rumble to get Class D amplification. I don't if that's true or not (Class D is still solid state), but the difference in tone between this and the 10-25w practice amps is remarkable. This one just has that something extra and finally "sounds like a bass" vs smaller amps. And it's not volume, it's tone. I chose this over other amps for the 4 band EQ and having control over the mids; having knobs for low and high mids feels like better tone shaping for my purposes than a mids and a contour knob. YMMV. The only thing I would add to the Rumble 40 would be a built-in tuner. I would rather have a tuner than the rather weak drive Fender included. I would ignore the drive and use a pedal if you want that sound. But that's small potatoes because the clean signal is so, SO good. If you're looking for a home amp, stretch the budget a little and get the Rumble 40; the difference in tone from a 10-25w FAR outpaces the difference in price. This amp is one of the best bargains in bass playing.Eric

Even with these issues, the sounds alone are the selling point of this amp. It's pretty amazing.

First off I'm an old school Sound Engineer. This little Amp does it all. It has so many uses even though it is so simple. It will teach you to learn to use the controls on your guitar better. Unlike several modeling amps this little piggy takes most stomp boxes GREAT!! Maybe he best feature is its Pre Amp Out which allows you a line into the PA or it will blow you away going into the input of your tube amp giving you a realist boost over any stomp box. At low volumes using the proper guitars pickups sparkling cleans. and this Piggy was made to be dirty. Best tool to have as a back up. Great traveling amp. Battery Life is goes a long way just get rechargeable and carry a small battery recharger in its little closed stash compartment. I don't recommend using the power cord. I'm sure there are some youngsters that differ with me but the old schoolers that like it raw and understand how to dial in their tone without playing with mods will dig this amp/fuzz box. If you have a nice clean tube amp but want some growl and extra volume pre amp this baby into your amp. I have several pedals and over drives and most all become thin bringing up the volume compared to this. it just gets thicker and more meaty as you increase the vol. My buddy are blown away with what comes out of the PA with this little Piggy and just a couple of effects my 86 RAT with this work well together.Cool mixes
I have the tweed covered version of the legendary 7-100, so it sounds the same as the leatherette covered version. I was very surprised at the rich tone of this amp. I am using it with 6 AA's not the power supply (dont know what difference that makes tonally) and it sounds like a tweed champ. You can get clean tones that have just a touch of twang with single coils or weaker humbuckers (gretsch) at a lower volume and form 1/4 of the way up you get progressively more and more tweedish ( let's face it-tweed breakup is basically distortion that fuzzes up as the gain increases) type distortion. With a tele you are in rolling stones territory, and with a humbucker equipped guitar you are in Neil Young land. It is awesome for recording, just stick your mic in front and go! It takes pedals well also. I love the simplicity-no time spent tweaking controls, plug in and rock. That said; this is not an ideal amp for a young beginner guitar player. A young kid will not appreciate what this amp gives. But for experienced players who like a "tweed' tone at a dirt cheap price this cannot be beat. Also, dont listen to the nonsense from guys who own one of the "original" ones that these new ones are no good-that's crap. The circuit has not changed regardless of who constructs it.padraic9143
Mr. Chatter is a great. The Pignose sounds line a vintage amp that gives you vintage guitar sounds from the 60s and 70s. This is a real analog amplifier not digital modeling The. Pignose is hand made and a quality piece of gear that will give many years of enjoyment with its rugged construction and quality components. The Pignose is surprisingly loud and versatile. The output jack allows you to send the Pignose to an amp or power amp/PA. I recommend getting the wall wart to save battery usage for outside use. Even the adapter fits inside of the Pignose. I got the original brown and it goes with home decor very easily. The Pignose can do cleans, overdrive and fuzz tones and does well with single coil pickups. The Pignose is very dynamic and you need to use your volume knob and hand to control the amp, like a real tube amp. Inwish I got a Pignose years ago. Huge sounding and a lot of power for such a small amp. The Spark Control App gives you loads of choices from classic sounds to the most modern of amps out there today. You also have tons of effects to use in conjunction with all of these modeled amp choices. All of these possibilities can be saved as your own personal presets which can endlessly be tweaked to make you sound and play your best. You can also use the Jam Along feature which syncs to iTunes, Spotify, etc. while also displaying the chord changes as you play. The Spark amp also connects easily to any DAW for professional sounding quality recordings. This amp does it all for a fraction of the price.Javier

The amp is awesome. Well built and solid, very pleasant to look at, easy to use and the sound! Oh man, the sound of that little amp is just beyond belief. Full and rich, it fills the room as though it were five times the size. With the app on my android phone, fine tuning the sound is easy and intuitive, and you can save your sounds as presets if you wish. But even without using the app, the presets that ship with the amp are simply stellar. In my opinion, the amp is well worth the price.Richard L.

I am one of those guitarists who does not use distortion; mainly playing 50's, 60's, and country. Having done my research the '59 Bassman seemed to be the ideal amp for me with it's clean and full-sounding tones when used with my Fender and Gretsch guitars. Previously, I had used modern-spec amps and simply ignored the high-gain options, but they usually sound too mellow and a bit muddy when used clean, presumably so that when switched to distortion mode, they aren't too "fizzy" sounding. This amp is hands down the best amp I have ever used; no frills, just Normal and Bright channels with common bass, mid, treble and presence controls. Good for humbucker-equipped guitars, too: simply add pedals if you must, but your starting point will always be good tone, which puts this amp ahead of most others. Higher volume settings are likely to induce a little overload (think early Kinks hits), but it all sounds natural and not contrived or OTT.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

SO no surprise that it excels on those duties. The big surprise was that this is now my preferred amp for P-Bass with Flatwound strings, vs. my modern Mesa bass amp. Perfect tonal balance, versatile across all playing styles, warm, and plenty of headroom (I only turn it up to 3 at small club gigs). It also excels on Hollow Body Guitars and Telecasters, giving a very even sound across the registers, with warmth, depth, openness, and room for expression. I already had the PRS MT15, which is a beast, a big wall of sound. So I was searching for something complementary and chose the EVH amp, which is perfectly what I wanted. * It is more articulated, louder in the high frequencies, it nicely pops out. * Also, the PRS doesn't break up nicely, the EVH has his own gain control on the clean, which goes from clean to (in combination with overdrive), to rock. * It can be used for a lot of music styles, for low death/doom metal sounds, my preference would go to PRS, but the more you go to rock style, the more the EVH which fit in. Don't get me wrong, it can sound a beast as well. For trash metal for example, they both rule, that is just personal preference. From AC/DC, Iron Maiden on, the EVH will have my preference. So basically like I stated, if you want a big wall of sound, the PRS, has it to be more articulated the EVH. * On the clean, the PRS is a warmer, especially with EMG pickups. The EVH is cleaner, more fragile sound. I like both, it depends on the music which one I would use. About some features, most of them work better on the EVH: * Switching to 3,5 watt still sounds good * the volume control works, I mean the PRS is so loud it is difficult to get on a normal level for home playing * Presence and resonance working as should * it has a different gain on each channel * the only benefit the PRS has, is the 2 equalizer, one for the clean and one for the gain. I don't have the EVH that long yet, but till now it is not really an issue for the EVH amp. The negative points: * The footswitch. That could be a bit bigger and heavier, it feels like a toy. * I prefer the knobs/switches on the front, now I am mainly talking about the on/off switch and stand by switch. I don't mind the 3.5 watt and resonance switch on the back, once you set them, you don't change them any more, but the power and stand by switch, that is just more user friendly on the front.
Ok..so obviously you're not going to get the full push of the 6L6 or EL34 brothers. But this is is loud even at 3 watts. I wish they could've designed the internals to throw out 20 watts but oh well. This isn't better than the LBX1..it's just different. This LBX2 has clean and lead channel which I personally like. I want either 0 gain or a ton of gain. The only real let down on this is that the knobs feel a little cheap and it's difficult to adjust the clean volume/drive without accidentally adjusting the lead channels. Also…the cable for the footswitch is too short. So shop for an adapter for the footswitch to extend the length. Otherwise it's a great amp for practice, studio and small full band venues.Jrod
First impression was that it is noticeably bigger than other 15 watt "lunchbox" heads I own. Plugged it into an Orange PPC212 to get jamming right away. I was thrilled that this head included as resonance and presence control, many other lunchbox amps leave those features off. As with many lunchbox amps, it's only 15 watts but it is a LOUD 15 watts. Plenty of volume for the shows I play, where the amp is going to be mic'd anyway. The clean channel is quite versatile. You won't get Fender-style cleans, but you can get a nice clean sound from the Green channel. With the gain turned up, you can get a good SRV or early AC/DC style overdrive sound. The Green channel takes pedals very well, which you will need to get a classic rock drive sound. The Blue channel is all metal all day. It sounds great, but it should be noted that even with the gain turned down and the presence turned up the Blue channel lacks some clarity and articulation when playing nuances in full chords. Even with the gain setting at 1 or 2, the Blue channel has a very high-gain tone. Turn up the gain to 6 or 7 and you're in thrash metal heaven. But if you're looking for a more classic rock drive, this Blue channel is simply too high gain. A few annoyances for me: 1) The on/off/standby are on the back of the head; not the end of the world, but it makes it a little more difficult to easily turn the amp on and off, especially in a gig setting. 2) This head does NOT come with a carry case. That was somewhat misleading since the demo videos both show the carry case. 3) The footswitch cable is kind of short, so in a larger stage setting it may be difficult to set up the amp conveniently. Then again, in a large gig setting you probably wouldn't be using a 15 watt amp! Overall, a great little amp that is easy to carry and sounds fantastic. Just be aware that the Blue channel is VERY high gain, and you may need to purchase a few accessories with it.Slick301

Sound: If you're coming in looking for a distinctive amp character sound… this ain't it. This is for clean headroom that allows you to sculpt your sound with pedals if you need to or with modeling… or for seriously hearing what your bass actually sounds like. For me personally, I've really come to enjoy it (and I lusted after the SVT grit sound forever) and I can't believe this does good of a job for the price. Features: The power section on this is just unreal – I'm sure the wattage measure for volume is probably a little relative (then again, so is 1-10 or 11, right?), but I don't ever take it much over the "40W" marker going into a 2 x 12 cab (yeah, you read that right) and I've never had a problem keeping up with two guitarists and a drummer, either on stage or in our practice space. The EQ is a little weird if you're coming from a low/mid/high setup like just about every piece of equipment out there has, but it honestly ends up being more intuitive for adjusting to a room or different bass in front of it. I took a gamble on the line out, which I understand isn't "true DI" in the sense that it isn't an independent signal from the rest of the amp (so if you mess with EQ or volume, your FOH has to adjust on their end), but in the end I ended up pairing this with an MXR Bass DI+ for a FOH signal and to get another distortion sound, so it sort of renders that point moot. I also wish they'd put 2 Speakon jacks instead of 1 Speakon and 2 1/4" outs, but not the end of the world for me. Ease of Use: I think the biggest learning curve on this is the EQ, but as I mentioned, once you understand it, it makes much more sense than your standard 3-band. Quality: For as light as it is, it feels like a tank! The only thing I'd even be a little nervous about is the small mute switch – which just feels light because, well, it's a tiny plastic switch that you just tap, no need for a big ol' mechanical clunker, right? And as silly as it seems, just the basic case is still a great touch. Value: I was very much on the fence between this and the Mesa/Boogie Subway series, and I think if they had been the same price (and both available from zZounds with pay as you play) I would have probably ended up going with the Mesa ONLY because of the name… but I don't at all regret going with this instead. It's done everything I've asked of it. Manufacturer Support: Haven't had to deal with them directly but a big reason I purchased was that it seems like they're extremely good about direct support (including from Pat himself!) The Wow Factor: Would this blow me away as a gotta-have if I had the funds and the means? I mean, tonally, no – alone, it's not tickling my ears, but it does rumble the rump in a rather pleasing way (hey, this is a safe space, don't judge my kinks.) But as someone who needed (fine, WANTED) a physically-smaller bass amp that did the job so I could keep spending my money on rebuilding crappy guitars instead, this 100% does the trick. Overall: I'm not a bassist, I'm a guitarist who just plays one on stage. One of my favorite amps and amp concepts was the Crate Powerblock (which I still use as a travel/audition amp sometimes) – and the Bass Block is what happens if you make the Powerblock 1000 times better an at least 5.33333333 times louder (that's science, baby, I wouldn't lie to you.) Simply put – if you want stellar, clean power that you can put just about anything in front of but also carry around IN A BACKPACK, this is where it's at.Matthew
This amp is a real winner. The power, as with many Class D amps isn't quite as much as the stated wattage, but it is loud and punchy. The amount of grind and kick may seem restrained because I am playing an upright, though I did test her with one of my 5 string electrics with a larger speaker cabinet, and I ran more pre gain on that run. With the upright, all knobs are at 12 0'clock, because uprights love flat sound waves. It is set up to do a great job as a double threat if I ever go back to gigs that require both upright and electric. She's gigged with me a few times and seems to have an intuitive set up with the Active and Passive inputs, Mute button, and the Depth and Contour knobs. I enjoy playing around with my electric because in conjunction with the throttling up or down of Master Volume vs. Gain and varying EQ via Depth and Contour knobs allows for a lot of very handy tone colouring.bill
I have a mixed review. I originally bought this amp because of the great reputation QSC products have had over the years under Pat Quilter's leadership – well-designed, highly-regarded products at a reasonable price, especially in the amplifier category. In the months I've used the Bass Block, it's been reliable and works without strain when I connect two cabinets, one at 4 Ohm and one at 8. That's a load of at least 2.67 Ohm, which is impressive. It never heats up, never shuts down. Bottom line: this amp has been bulletproof. The amp is light – about 15 pounds lighter than the class AB amp Eden Highwayman 500 I'd been using. Before purchasing, I spoke with Pat at the Quilter booth at the 2019 NAMM Show. He explained the tone controls, which are quite different than the usual 4-band passive or semi-parametrics you find on other units. In over 20 gigs with a number of different cab configurations with and without horn tweeters, and both active and passive basses, it has been a challenge to get the tone I need from this amp – it seems skewed toward a bassy/midrangey tone with no ability to juice up the treble. (I play classic rock in a club band, use my fingers mostly, and a pick on a few tunes) For example, when I play my Rick 4003, I can only get that clanky Rick tone if I bypass the amp's preamp section and use an outboard preamp that has more traditional tone controls. With that said, the roundish tones I can get from this unit are good; I'm just disappointed that either the unit is unable to provide the treble definition I want, or I'm unable to figure out how to get it with this amp. On the industrial design side: the amp chassis feels one step from finished – sharp folded edges stick out (versus, say, the smooth packaging you find in a GK or Genzler head.) From a marketing perspective, I wouldn't have applied the graphic of a caution sign (red stripes) to the top of the amp, and the word "block" in the product name, think "verb.Countbassy

Overall: Let me start off by saying that I am a pick player. I only ever play a precision bass with a pick, and I have been on a quest to find the best bass head that would get me that punchy mix I need. I have quite literally tried every high end head available. Ampeg Svt Classic, Ampeg Vintage Reissue, Orange AD200B, even the Aguilar DB751. Each one of these were great and they had something distinct about them but they had me missing something. The Fender Super Bassman 300 fills all gaps. It is powerful like an Ampeg, ballsy like the Orange, and has that ability to cut right through the mix like an Aguilar. The two channels allow this head to be the most versatile amp on the market for a bassist. I gave the ease of use factor just under a perfect score as I am not too accustomed to EQ'ing the passive tone stack of the Vintage channel. The overdrive channel is active tone stack and it is so incredibly simple to dial in any tone you want. Speaking of the overdrive channel- the built in overdrive on this head is better than ANY overdrive pedal. You will lose ZERO low end when the drive is engaged. It's a beautiful thing. When I purchased a brand new Ampeg SVT Classic the tubes blew after 5 months. I take incredible care of my amps (always warming and cooling tubes, making sure things are biased). This amp literally takes care of itself with the auto-biasing feature. It gives me an incredibly piece of mind knowing the amp is always biased and ready to play. It comes with a footswitch AND a speaker cable which I think was awesome of Fender to include. THE ONLY PROBLEM with this amp is that everything else you do in your life will suck because you'll wish you were playing it while you're at work. Please buy this head.David
Overall: I received this head about a week ago and just played through it today. The reason for the delay was I was waiting on a Fender Neo 410 to connect this head into that just arrived today via FedEx……I am getting a second Fender Neo 410 as well and should have the second cab in about a week.I cannot even comprehend how ridiculously awesome this head is.I plugged my '75 Jazz reissue into it with PJ pickups and steel strings. With a pick or with fingers I can get instant Squire, Geezer, and 70's Wetton tones from it. It can cop an SVT tone easily plus much more. Both channels are brilliant.I'm thankful to now have this rig. Again, I can't even imagine what this will be like with the second Neo 410. When I say "it almost made me cry" I am not joking…..I haven't even plugged my beloved Precision into it yet (my main bass) and I am already completely blown away. Floored. The GK head and Ampeg 810e I had was great….but this is an entirely new tonal realm. I will update this review when the second cab arrives and when I have had a chance to play through the whole rig loud with my band and see how everything sits in the mix…..But let it be known ….that from the initial plug-in…..this amp…..IT ALMOST MADE ME CRY…..Barnabas
Overall: First impression – this is a big, well made tube amp with huge, warm, room filling tone. It is about 20lbs lighter than an SVT, so an easy schlep for me up two flights of stairs to my apartment. As long as you understand how the Fender passive tone stack works, dialing in a nice clean tone on the vintage channel is really easy. It is clearly a bigger, thicker and more powerful tone than the Mesa Walkabout Hybrid it was replacing. I was able to cop a reasonable SVT tone with it almost immediately, which was great. Pulling out the bass knob acts like a deep switch, which I found more usable than I would have expected, though would likely keep that feature off in a gig at volume. The thing has plenty of lows without it (and I have no use for the treble boost at all). I liked the idea of being able to switch over to a mildly overdriven and more mid-forward tone for cutting through on the more rock-oriented stuff we do. I've been able to get close to that on the overdrive channel, but there is still quite a bit more tweaking I think I need to do to get it where I want it. getting that tone has been a bit more elusive than I would like, but I'll get there. The Super Bassman has all of the features I would want on an amp. The DI is nice to have. There is an 8,4 and 2 ohm switch on the back, so you can match with different cab setups (using a small 8ohm 115 for example for smaller gigs then switch over and power two 810s on the other extreme). The auto biasing system is cool and (having dealt with cranky tube amps in the past) this brings about a certain peace of mind. On the other hand, I wonder how reliable the system itself is as well – in my experience, simpler things are sometimes more reliable. Another feature that is available on the Bassman 100T is the ability to step down the power section to lower wattages – this is really nice, but not part of the Super Bassman design. Not sure why. This amp is designed for big stages, but I suspect most hobbyists use them in clubs and smaller rehearsal venues also, so having the reduced power mode would be nice. Would be great to push the power section a bit without blowing everyone else off the stage. Finally, it's a pricey amp – but you get what you pay for I suppose. This is the kind of amp I could see holding onto for a lifetime and I think its a good investment.Dave

I bought this amp to use for practice at home, and to do some recording into an audio interface. To my surprise this amp gets quite loud, I suspect it will hold its own in a jam session or even a small gig. Tone on both the clean channel and with SGT engaged is excellent, SGT level goes from very low (slightly dirty, warmer tone) all the way up to full distortion – can't wait to play a rock solo with this.Isaac D
This is a great little combo at a terrific price! It gets quite loud without unintentional distortion, the SGT gives a nice, warm distortion effect, and the features include a balanced XLR output (for easy connection to a mixing board), plus 1/8" headphone output and aux input, so you can play along with music in your headphones and not disturb others. This is a great practice and small gigging amp for the price range. Built well as only to be expected by Ampeg. To be honest though, I think my Fender Rumble 40 has better tone with same size speaker and lighter in weight for a lesser price. I love the option of having both amps because I keep one at church and one in the spare bedroom for private quiet practice as both have that feature..not to take away from this Ampeg at all, I love the looks of the checkered tolex and color better than the silvery Fender grill. I use a Korg Pandora Mini multi effects processing unit to achieve a large spectrum of sounds. That is another unit that I recommend guitar players to use to compliment the sound and functionality of this Pignose Hog 20 amplifier. The Hog handles pedals very well, as I also unit a Biyang Compressor Unit and an Electro Harmonix Linear Boost Unit (both seperately). I have not tried a Distortion or High Gain pedal unit to achieve METAL-esk sounds but I am very sure (almost to a certainty) that this amplifier can handle it. I hope that my review has helped guitarists make an informed decision about this product. It is a very practical and inspiring product that EVERY guitarist should have as a practice aid. The Pignose Hog 20 is a RECHARGEABLE amplification unit that does what it is supposed to do; produces a clean sound. This sound is very clear and articulate. I will be yet another reviewer that mentions this amp's strong suit is it's CLEAN setting. The amplifier also has a TONE knob to adjust the brightness of the sound, as well as a SQUEAL knob to add an OVERDRIVE voice to the sound. This SQUEAL knob IS NOT a distortion knob. It is best used as a clean boost or to add a small amount of GRIT to the sound. If you are looking for a GAIN suited amplifier, this unit is NOT for you. If you are looking for an amplifier that inspires you to create and play than look no further. This amp is for you! This amplifier is 100% portable. Once the unit is fully charged one can easily take it to a park, garden, school, play ground, lake, beach, or ANY place that does not have an electrically input. Be warned; the juice on this unit only lasts for 8 hours so plan accordingly. The amplifier is very sturdy. Though it is small and compact, and can easily fit into the trunk of a car, it is somewhat heavy (weighing at about 15-20 pounds; maybe less). I can not attest to it's long term functionality for I have only owned it for a week. This amplifier is a STEAL! Its value and practical use far exceeds its cost. This product does exactly what I wanted it to. I have to play a wedding with my acoustic at an outdoor event this week where there is no electricity. With an acoustic guitar, you do have to watch where you place it because it will feedback if you're not positioned correctly, but that's no problem because I'm outside. The squeal knob is pretty much worthless to me, but maybe it's better with a solid body electric. I purchased a battery operated ZOOM MS-50G pedal, just to add some eq, compression, chorus, delay and reverb to the Pignose and I couldn't be happier with the results — especially when you consider that this is a battery operated amp.inthesticks53

Most 15w and some 10w amps will out do the pig by a long shot[even a 5 watt tube amp] The pig does'nt have a lot of clean headroom either but it's enough for what it's for. It has a decent crunch and distorts easily with humbuckers at higher volume. I don't personally care for the "squeal" knob.Too much "odd" harmonics. What its good for is that it's rechargeable, super portable, and the charge lasts a good bit with the dual beefy battery packs in the back. You can take this anywhere and play. No electric….no problem. And that's a good thing. The best feature is the built in battery packs that can be recharged. Lasts quite a while on a charge too. Well built. Feels and looks solid. You can buy a Fender champion 600 tube amp for the same money or a Fender frontman 25 for less but they're either much larger and you have to have juice to run them.
