1. The Guitar: Tracing The Grain Back To The Tree [Book]
Product Details:
Guitars inspire cult-like devotion: an aficionado can tell you precisely when and where their favorite instrument was made, the wood it is made from, and that wood’s unique effect on the instrument’s sound. in the guitar, chris gibson and andrew warren follow that fascination around the globe as they trace guitars all the way back to the tree. the authors take us to guitar factories, port cities, log booms, remote sawmills, indigenous lands, and distant rainforests, on a quest for behind-the-scenes stories and insights into how guitars are made, where the much-cherished guitar timbers ultimately come from, and the people and skills that craft those timbers along the way. gibson and warren interview hundreds of people to give us a first-hand account of the ins and outs of production methods, timber milling, and forest custodianship in diverse corners of the world, including the pacific northwest, madagascar, spain, brazil, germany, japan, china, hawaii, and australia. they unlock surprising insights into longer arcs of world history: on the human exploitation of nature, colonialism, industrial capitalism, cultural tensions, and seismic upheavals. but the authors also strike a hopeful note, offering a parable of wider resonance—of the incredible but underappreciated skill and care that goes into growing forests and felling trees, milling timber, and making enchanting musical instruments, set against the human tendency to reform our use (and abuse) of natural resources only when it may be too late. the guitar promises to resonate with anyone who has ever fallen in love with a guitar.

Reviews:
I look at guitars in a completely different way now. This book is about so much more than guitars: it traverses the geo-political and climate change; the move from old, skill-based construction methods to modern, automated processes and the tension that exists between them. Guitar making, it seems, will always have a foot in both camps, to some degree. So many of the fascinating people in the book are conflicted about what they do. Guitars have specific needs, mostly old-growth and/or rare timbers. The idea that a tree that was a seedling before Christopher Columbus was born is to be felled to provide soundboards for thousands of guitars is hard to stomach, no matter how important music is to you. Chris Gibson and Andrew Warren have done a thorough job on researching this book. I'm envious of the places they've been, and the trees that they've see. You don't have to be a guitarist to find this book fascinating. That said, I'm a drummer, so I just looked at the pictures and intuited the above.AJ

Reviews:
The repetitive drills featured in this book are very good for the intermediate or advanced guitarist but would be very frustrating for a true beginner. The early drills are very hard to do at high speeds for me and I am an advanced beginner. The CDs are practically useless for me as I must play the whole weeks worth of drills rather then being able to play each days drill seperately. Being able to play a daily drill seperately would vastly improve it's usability.wnp

'a compelling journey in the company of a masterful (and mercifully ego-free) musician. i saved it like a cherished slab of vinyl.' ian rankin touring with ac/dc. befriending the beatles. writing one of the world's most iconic rock songs.this is the story of a young boy from a small town who dreamt of one day playing the guitar for a living – and ended up a rock n' roll legend.it follows bernie marsden's astonishing career in the industry – from tours in cold war germany and franco's spain, to meeting and befriending george harrison and touring europe with ac/dc. it's a story of hard graft, of life on the road, of meeting and playing with your heroes, of writing iconic rock songs – most notably the multi-million selling hit 'here i go again' – and of being in one of the biggest rock bands of all time. at age 30, bernie left whitesnake due to serious conflict with his management, something he explores in this memoir for the very first time.packed with stories and encounters with the likes of ringo starr, elton john, cozy powell, ozzy osborne, b.b. king and jon lord, this is not just a remarkable look into the highs and lows of being a true music legend, but an intimate account of the revolutionary impact rock and roll music has offered to the world.

Riktigt bra för förstagångsbyggarenMikael Y
This was a great value to me as a seasoned builder, I was able to create a very nice acoustic/electric bass guitar. Most of the hardware, like the tuners, are cheap and not worth the effort to install. I replaced the preamp with one that only required two small holes for the volume and tone, I used an end jack so I wouldn't have to add another hole. I pegged the bridge to prevent it from being pulled up by the string tension, and used up graded tuners and strings. I ended up with an instrument on par with ones costing much more. I would not recommend this kit to a beginner, there are too many things that have to taken care of before the kit was even started.mazdams3

6. Guitar Fretboard: Memorize The Fretboard In Less Than 24 Hours: 35+ Tips And Exercises Included [Book]
Product Details:
Memorize the fretboard before you play another note! a fully memorized fretboard is one of the most underrated skills in the guitar world. it's not expected from a beginner, nor is it taught in the normal course of guitar learning. – but the smartest and best guitarists in the world know why fretboard knowledge can be the secret to being good at guitar. – why memorize the fretboard? apart from sounding extremely cool when you say "oh, you played a c instead of a c#", it amplifies every area of your guitar playing: area #1: guitar scales won't be just patterns on the neck: guitar scales are simply a couple notes repeated all over the fretboard. if you understand this simple concept and have the fretboard memorized, you won't need to memorize those endless patterns all over the fretboard. simply get set and solo! area #2: you'll unlock 1000+ guitar chords: chords are combinations of specific notes too. you can hold these notes anywhere on the fretboard to get chords in different contexts. but it starts with – you guessed it – fretboard knowledge. – area #3: song writing becomes child's play: break free from common chord shapes and sounds to venture into the wild west of music writing. add your own chords to popular songs, change the key or simply be more creative. – granted this is an advanced skill, but the shortest path to get there – fretboard memorization! area #4: and the biggest benefit of them all – improvisation! improvising is natural to a person who knows the fretboard! new note combinations, unorthodox melodies, playing fluently with a backing track or even writing new melodies. nothing works if you can't pick out the notes on the fretboard in an instant. – so, fretboard knowledge allows you to solo better, improvise better, play better harmonies and write songs. that's a major chunk of guitar right there! why more people don't memorize the fretboard. – it's hard! it seems impossible! it'll come with time! memorizing 24 frets across 6 strings is not the easiest thing in the world. and most guitarists only ever master it after 1000s of hours on the guitar. using these, absolute beginners have memorized the fretboard in less than 24 hours. some even in as little as 5 hours! simple! this will take the layout of the fretboard right to the brain – without any sort of blunt memorization. – with over 700 5-star reviews, this book has helped over 39,000 guitarists shorten their learning time and gain the skill of the guitar gods – in under 24 hours! and it costs less than a pack of strings! so, scroll up and click 'buy now' to gain the unfair advantage of the pros in under 24 hours!

Reviews:
This guitar is a breath of fresh air, something different from my collection of Strats, Les Pauls, Wilshires, etc. I love the looks and the sounds even better. The humbucker modes are strong and tasteful, the single coils are not quite a Strat but different enough to provide a great alternative sound. The mix of both provide lots of options. I have small hands and always went for thin necks especially the Gibson trim tapers but this thicker neck actually feels and plays great. I am amazed by the quality of modern guitars and the success of American builders who provide less expensive options through foreign manufacturing. We are living in the golden era of guitars – Thanks PRS!
I want to start by saying I did not get it from GC. I got it from another site where they had a charcoal option. This is a review on the guitar and not the supplier. They say a good guitar isn't necessary how it looks. I also read a lot about "a PRS sounds somewhere between a Les Paul and a Strat." For some reason people hold these sounds as the "gold standard" for musical guitar tone. Now I don't know about that either. What I can tell you is that what makes this a good guitar is how inspiring it is and how creative it's making me play. I don't know how to describe it- maybe a more experience person can weigh in (I've been playing on and off for a few years) but I seem so much more creative in my playing when I'm jamming with this as compared to my Gibson SG standard or Fender Player. At the end of the day, you want a guitar that not only sounds great (which this absolutely does) but also feels great and inspires you to play out of your norm. It does not have as much rock power when distorted when compared to my SG, so if you're looking for a rock heavy guitar, I don't know if this is for you. But it sounds incredible clean (which is how I mostly play). My Player sounds great clean too, but I love the wider and thicker neck profile it has compared to my strat (I got big gorilla hands so I like a chunkier neck). I've only had this for 2 weeks but it's become my grab guitar.Robbie A
I was looking for an entry level guitar that was priced right and built well. First of all, how can you go wrong with this beautiful style. It is also very light and wont leave you with back pain after a couple hours of riffing. Tuning keys are solid without any dead spots and dont slip. The guitar stays in tune very well with only slight adjustment needed due to temperature changes. Pick up selector is smooth and not notchy. Havent used the whammy bar and have been playing with studio headphones, so sound is subjective, but as someone that has been playing several instruments for 30 years, I like to think I have a good ear. All in all a great purchase decision.oxouk

I would say that making your own guitar is better, because you get what you want and how you want it to sound, far better than any you can buy off the shelf, if you are willing to put the time in, you will be rewarded with a great guitar. If anyone is thinking of building there own guitar, this is the book for them.davidw1734
