Guitar High E String For Sale (2024 Update)

These strings are absolutely fantastic for a FULL humbucker guitar (Les Paul or SG). Would not put them on single coil guitars though (Stratocaster or Telecaster). They are a lot brighter and tinnier than Pure Nickel. From this point on, these are all I'll use on my Epiphone SG….sound great and last a long time without losing their sound.White Dog

I usually use .10s on the Hendrix guitars and drop tune to Eb. I was interested in these strings because they are somewhere between light and heavy guages and could also use them for standard pitch (E). When I changed over I had to reset the action, re-intonate (expected) and re-set floating tremo block (surprising). At first these strings seemed unbalanced, but once that was done, the strings were great. This set has a heavier 1st string and (way) heavier 6th string, and lighter middle strings. Perfect for tone and 1-1/2 bends. Now you seen how David Gilmour does it!stratman

I've been reading reviews of these strings (customer and store's) for several years. Was never really sure whether to buy into the hype. For better of for worse, I finally took the plundge and tried a set. I'm 60 yrs old, 45 yrs playing gtr. I've used MANY types of strings over the years, through many types of amps. But when I slapped these babies on my 1974 Stratocaster (yes, black on black with maple neck – exactly like Gilmour's old one) the difference was immediate and profound!!! Smooth feel. Incredible sustain. Bends like butter. And the tone? Impeccable. Going from clean to dirty….it's amazing to keep that kind of tone between the two. Playing clean, straight into the amp, the tone is pristine – rich, smooth and sparkling. Plug it into the RATT peddle, NICE sustain, and they're fat and ballsy while still sounding smooth….exactly like David's tone! Believe the hype. The only thing I haven't covered yet is their durability (have had them on the Strat for about 2 weeks now). How long will they last between changes? Well I haven't see any complaints from other reviewers, so that's hopeful.Robert

My main guitar is a PRS and I play mostly Gilmour solos, some Santana and Gary Moore. However, I have always used 10-46 Elixir strings, brilliant but could never get the nice bass notes of Gilmour. A friend who tours with a PF Tribute Band uses the Gilmour blue strings which have heavier gauge bass strings and suggested I try them. So I bought some and they are fantastic. Living in New Zealand I couldn't get them locally and was a little reticent in buying on-line but can't fault the service I received. Been playing guitar since 2004, and started playing more metal/hard rock stuff shortly after. I used to always use my father's d'addario's as a kid, but bought these because of the dimebag logo when in 2007, and they did not disappoint. The feel, the tone, the longevity of the tunings are all exquisite. Have turned several friends onto these strings over the years. Excellent for my usage, metal and rock work in standard, Drop D, and Drop C. Will buy these strings as long as they are manufactured, specifically the 10-46 set.Scotty

These strings feel great on your hands and last a very long time. After the initial stretch they stay in tune very well and sound great. I see why Dimebag used them. I installed these on all 12 of my guitars and I buy them by the case from AMS. I have tried every string out there and these are by far my absolute favorite. These strings come Unwound from the bead once installed on your guitar. I've never had any other type of string do this to me before. Here's the scenario: my first string starts to detune gradually as if my tuning machine is loose… a slight mystery at first, then it won't hold a note, and comes unwound from itself at the bridge. Three times this has happened to me 9n two separate guitars. I will never use these strings on a guitar again. Failure of the worst kind.Ben

for the money they are great value ,maybe not for a real guitar player but perfect for a hack like myself who destroys high e strings with amazing ease. ive fitted two and they seem fine so far they appear to stay in tune fairly well and dont unravel when you first fit them like other cheap strings ,whats not to like at the price.easterr4

These strings are great value. I've used a number of these replacement strings and they hold their brightness and intonation for a longer period than expected. A lot of cheaper strings are quieter and have a rough feel to them, but these are quite smooth and their output blends with my other strings.rb2647-hypz1c

I've been using black beauties for years now. Originally bought them for the look they gave me on my black Tele. They really lasted a long time. And they produced good tone on the instrument. Of course some the coating wore off at the picking area after a few hours of use. Everyone expects that. But you could only tell if you get real close. the fingerboard area stays coated real well. And keeps that slick feel. I don't notice any sound degradation, and the intonation remains constant. And hey Kids, a black majic marker fixes the chipped coating! Just kidding ! I really do find that these strings last a long time and I bend them all over the frets. I constantly buy these.J W GUITARS

Overall: I'm really not that tough to please but these strings are a disappointment to me. I do like the black color, BUT – and I kid you not! – within ONE minute of playing the black was already coming off my high E string and I was playing with my fingers, not a pick! I saw what looked like a piece of fuzz on the string so I started wiping it off, only to realize it's the black color coming off further and further. Within five minutes I had about an inch and a half of bare string showing. It comes off so easy it seems lit it's just spray paint. I understand it won't last forever, but one minute?? Come on. The other thing I don't like about these strings is they have an uneven plastic type feel to them. It's not horrible, but they don't feel like "regular" strings. Other than that they sound OK, nothing special, so I'm definitely not buying these again.Tim

These look awesome and have a very smooth nylon feel. They don't sound bad at all. Maybe a little different I'm sure. They will shed the coating eventually, especially if u use a custom plectrum/pick made of metal or some other highly dense material. Metal will remove the coating immediately! The coating may also slow down the corrosion process. They are holding up good so far. I like these strings. I have a set of white strings somewhere. Those seem hard to find.jcfvintage

Pure and even tone from string to string. Edgy. Tight lows and sparkling highs. Bright, clean, clear. But not shrill. Just a bright, clean tone. Chords ring with authority. Leads drill holes into your brain. String noise is a minimum but yet the string amazingly retains special harmonic quality. These strings seem to be high quality and well-made. They help me make music. Would not hesitate to purchase them again.zippidydoo

First off, I am the biggest Van Halen fan you'll ever find and have nothing but respect for the Brown Sound. That said, you won't find it in these strings. They're awful. They're constantly at odds with my Floyd Rose and I've yet to keep them all in tune without the Low E flopping all over the fretboard. And the strings that do stay in tune produce a tinny, whiny sound through the same settings that were cranking out near-Van Halen tone from Ernie Balls. This is my first experience with the EVH equipment line and I must say I'm not impressed. The only connection to Van Halen I see here is that only Eddie himself could make these things sound good.Lee

So I ordered a five pack and so far two of the packs had strange issues. Pack number one had a missing high E string then pack number two had an extra G string. This was my first purchase of 5150 strings and probably my last.dkgetz

If and when you find these for a reasonable price BUY THEM!! Since Eddy died anything with his name on it skyrockets in price. I don't play as often as I'd like, but when I do I play hard. These strings are some of very few that stay in tune, don't corrode or flatten out on the fret side. ALL strings should be thoroughly wiped down after use. GHS Fast fret is a great choice, rubbing alcohol followed by mineral oil is another.blue-mike

The only issue I have is the coating causing the high strings to slip in my Floyd Rose, so I just clean the end going into my trem and all is good.mull2539

The strings I purchased lasted about as long as a normal set of strings, but were so much louder than normal strings. Thank you for selling these strings to me and for selling these works of art! I did have a disappointing moment when the paint started coming off of the strings. Too bad there isnt touch up paint but that is another story. The strings are beautiful! And they function so well! I've tried many string brands out there and have come back to Ernie Ball in the last couple of years. They sound and feel great, stay in tune (assuming you have a guitar that stays in tune), and are durable (no strings last forever). You can simply depend on them.Frank

I have used Ernie Ball Slinkys since I started playing guitar (time that can be measured in decades, that's all I say). I have been through other top brands, and just don't like them. I have gotten to know EB strings to the point where I can nearly predict when they'll break. That's good in my book. The lively tone and intonation stays for a LONG time. And they're good enough to scrape clean and, in the word of Billy Idol, Start Again. Well, that beats boiling them (RIP EVH). What's even better is all these new, attractive hybrid sets, allowing you to easily find your groove without having to get two packs for your ideal set! EB just keeps getting better.Guy lll

Over the years I've tried many different brands of strings on my electric guitars. Looking for good tone was easy- because all strings seem to sound 'great' when they're new. But after a couple days other brands just go flat, and lose their life & bite. Y'all know what I'm talkin about! These Dimebags are different from ALL the others. Not only do they sound great & bring out all the hidden tones of a bunch of different types of guitars; (a Fender American Strat, Gibson SG, and of course, a Dean FBD ML for example) but man- I'm not lyin' when I tell you these things last and last! From straight out strumming to layin on 'em hard with a wammy- they're top notch! DR DIMEBAGS ARE THE BEST! Don't waste your time & money looking further. I use these for tuning down to B standard and they are perfect with or without a tremolo. They feel firm enough, but not too tight and make for easy shredding. I wouldn't suggest going lower than B standard, but they would probably still hold the up well in A# or even A standard. I don't tune down lower than B and wouldn't know how well they do going lower. I get a lot of good old school death metal tones with these stings. I've tried a lot of different strings and these are the only ones that really are made for lower tunings. They do their job, sound great and last a very long time. It's very simple really. You put them on, stretch them out a little, tune up and you're in knee deep in metal \m/Foul Phil

I first used DDTs on my 4 string bass. I put this particular set on a Peavy Strat clone and it's sitting in BEADC right now will full string tension. Of note is the need for less extra string on the lower two since the "EAD" (or BEA in my case) are fundamentally light bass strings and you probably won't have enough room for a proper wrap due to the smaller machine heads.Jared

These are great strings be not for everyone. They are different in that they aid the upper register of vocals. I've put them on a 00-27 and a J 200; tow very different guitars. The affect is magical for those musicians who want a harp-like tone from their steel strung axe. They have an interesting configuration. From e to E; 12, 16,12,16, 23 W, 30 W. The result is crisp, clear highs and rich lows. These strings are different, but wonderful.goeller2006

I have tried countless strings over the years, and these John Pearse strings are fantastic! You name it, I've tried it. Everything from D'Addario, Elixer, Martin, Gibson, DR, Cleartone and even Dean Markley. Cheap and expensive, I have tried them. All I can say is that these are the best acoustic strings I have tried to date. I just went from a set of Elixers (which I thought were expensive, but good) to these, and these strings won out hands down. As soon as I installed these, my guitar absolutely came ALIVE! It was almost like night and day. Everything was better! Immediately what I noticed was the added volume and projection I was getting, but most of all, it was the tone that absolutely sold me on these. With these strings I heard more woodiness, percussive body, clarity, string to string definition, harmonic overtones, and resonance than any other acoustic strings I have heard to date. The top end also opened up and became even more tactile and transparent. These strings are just more organic, yet highly defined and less sterile than anything else I have heard, and they also have a very balanced output from string to string that is excellent. In no small measure, these strings have been a bit of a revelation. These strings are also very smooth, and I also noticed less finger noise between fretting notes and bar chords as well. However, regarding that smoothness, I also noticed something interesting as well. Just try to follow me with this: These are the first set of John Pearse strings I have ever installed, so I don't know if this is a "one off", but as smooth as they are, I also noticed that the unwound strings have an ever so slightly uneven and wavy finish to them in spots when you shine them in the light. I don't mention this as a negative IN ANY WAY, but just purely as an observation. Besides, I could care less because they sound so darn amazing. Anyway, my point of mentioning this (and this is based purely on conjecture), is I wonder if the barely perceptible finish inconsistencies contribute to the overall tonality of these strings? TBH, I have never seen strings that had this kind of "inconsistency" to their finish before, and I am wondering if this has anything to do with the great tonality of these strings? All the other strings I have bought over the years have been extremely smooth and consistent in their diameter and finish. Again, I don't mention this as a negative in any way because you never feel this while playing in the least. The only time I noticed it was when I looked at them under direct light. These strings sound fantastic, and obviously their specific alloy and construction plays a great part to their sound, but on the other hand, I have never seen strings with this kind of finish before, and yet I have also never been so excited about a set of strings before either. There has to be something to it. The only other thing I can mention is that these strings also have excellent string life as well. I have had these on my acoustic after about a month and a half of use, and they still sound fantastic! Anyway, all I can say is that I have tried A LOT of strings, and these ones are the standouts by far. Buy with confidence. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Peace. 🙂Eywa Dude

Had a pesky b and e string on short scale 000. Solution was it wanted more tension to ring true. The 13 and 18 did it; short scale so they play like lighter strings! The 22w g is awesome, the rest balance nicely. 52 is lite for E but not much of a sacrifice; drop D tuning still do-able. SO HAPPYJohn

If you have an electric guitar or a 12 string acoustic, you will want to have a package of .009 extra light loose strings in your drawer. The can break occasionally and with some loose strings available, you can replace the broken .009's with a spare. These are good quality. Don't get caught without spares!gnm109

I got the first set of these as a gift and put them on one of my guitars. When I played the guitar it seemed a lot easier to play, silky smooth, and sounded very good. I would not think that strings could make that big of a difference but they do. I feel just like Yngwie ripping up the fret board. I just bought 10 more sets so I don't have to wait for them anymore, the strings are popular and last time I ordered they took 4-6 weeks. These strings are awesome. I am a die hard EVH user. I own 27 guitars and have EVH strings on all of them. But I am now migrating towards these strings. Some of my top model guitars are strung with Yngwie strings. I buy them whenever I can. They feel great and sound even better. If Yngwie actually uses this product, I can see why. I received a set of these as a gift, have had them installed for about 3 weeks. I'm a lifelong Ernie Ball user and love the brightness of the wound strings that the newer, higher output versions like Cobalts and M-Steels have. These DR's are about equal as far as sound characteristics, but superior to the EB's when it comes to intonation and staying in tune. They come with 3 extra plain strings and the fact that they're less expensive is a plus, but price isn't the deciding factor for me… I'll pay good money for gear as long as it's high quality…Spruce Creeker

I have tried a multitude of various strings. These DR strings are great. I have the Multi color; Yellow; Orange; Green and the Black Beauty ones. These are excellent strings. I bought them for my son, who loves them. They stay in tune well. He likes their feel, they feel like the Elixir strings he used before. They seem to last well, he's had then on his Schecter about 3 weeks and they feel and look good and hold their tuning well. And did I mention they look really good under black light?Richard

I had been using 0.13 baritone strings on a 25.5 scale Ibanez 6 string and never could get it to intonate well if I went lower than b standard. With these strings I can get it to Ab standard or Drop F# while still maintaining an almost perfect intonation. Plain steel 3rd isn't my Forte, but it works.Barry Baritone

these sound incredible at the B and A range. Particularly A because they are so thick. I dont play in F but they still hold tune and tension amazingly. They sound sharp and are very lively strings. Im going to try the 10-60 next week. the 65 gauge is a little to big for versatility. I plan on buying a third guitar and that will have these strings designated to it.Reza

These strings are okay for the price, but I've had several problems with them. 1) This is not a sealed pack, so when I bought it the .010 had rusty patches right out of the pack and maybe the .013 too. They're in individual folded paper sleeves all together in an open-air fold-over plastic sheath. 2) They're NOT for your standard extended-range/long scale 8-string. Short scale guitars only. These fit my 25.5" guitar nicely, but when I tried putting these on my Agile Interceptor 30" scale guitar, they were probably 5"+ too short. Didn't even reach the nut, much less the peg (partly because it's a string-through, tune-o-matic, long scale, and reverse-inline, so lots of extra string is needed. Also, on the paper sleeve, it tells you that it's a 30" taper, which means that the string gets narrow after 30" to fit through the tuning peg. On many extended-rang/long scale guitars, the taper will begin before the nut, which you do NOT want. You want the string to be the same diameter along the entire vibrating length. 3) The tension balance is all out of whack. The gauges are okay on the last 6 strings for 25.5" scale. A little too tight from the .054 down (I can imagine on your typical long-scale 8-string they'd be way too tight), but I drop-tune the low strings to E and A, and the .074 is totally floppy and smacking the frets and the 0.64 could definitely be thicker.The Kev

I wrote a review earlier about these strings, but I have definitely changed my mind. I do have an eight string, and I used these for it and wow…they were not very good. The most obvious thing was the .74 string gets smaller WAY before the tuners, even for my seven string. So playing the first fret feels extremely awkward. Second, palm muting on these things sounds hideously dirty compared my old strings or even the stock strings. I also have to agree that a .54 for the E string is very ridiculous. The only thing I'd recommend these for is softer playing or if you never play chords. Otherwise, get the D'Addario or any other 8-string set.Brian Dice
