If you like Fender modelling amp sounds, you'll find this perfect for headphone practice. The selection of Amps is a bit more limited than in a Fender Modelling amp, and the Effects depths similarly limited, but hey, the thing is the size of a matchbox and it allows you to jam along with your online selections, via Bluetooth. Your headphones must be cable, not Bluetooth, however, to avoid latency. But as the headphone cable goes over your shoulder straight into the Mustang Micro, you are not hampered by any connecting cable to your playback device. Until you try this, you may not appreciate how liberating and convenient this is. Its pivoting jack also allows it to go into a Strat recessed socket, many others don't.Geoff

Overall: I'm very pleased with the Micro overall. Read my review below. It really is great. If I were to suggest any changes to the Mustang Micro, it would be this: 1. Include some earbuds with the amp…I mean, why not? You can buy decent earbuds for ten bucks these days…probably cost Fender fifty cents and would mean ready to go out of the box. 2. In the new model, set it up to have a bluetooth output for using wireless headphones. While not a huge deal, I'd really rather not have that wire running from the headset to the guitar. I always end up fumbling with it when taking the guitar off or putting it on. 3. Go ahead and print the basic amp settings on the Micro. The reference card works. But, just having the amp models printed on the amp itself would be handy. There is enough blank space on the Micro to accommodate this.These are just my ideas for improvements. I picked this up on a friend's recommendation as a better than average headset amplifier. My Likes: In terms of sound quality it is quite good. It is compact and I do like the USB charging feature a lot. The amp models are better than I expected and sound different with each guitar I use, just like a good amp should. The effects were a nice bonus, simple and effective. I haven't tested bluetooth connectivity yet, but I presume that it will do its job. My concerns, Use while Seated – nearly impossible,as with most headset amplifiers, especially with a side mounted jack . With my Fender Stratocaster, it is more easily used because of the top mount, but with any side mount, it gets caught on my knee and can get pulled out when seated. EQ feature. It does not seem to impact the sound very much in clean or driven settings. I would have preferred paying an extra $20 for a small set of wheels for hi/mid/low Overall it is a B+ for Fender, which could be a quick A with some more mounting options and a small 3 band EQKAS

I bought this amp to have a small, cheap portable amp to play harmonica through. For that, it is decent enough. I use a Shure bullet mic and the amp produces good enough tone and is plenty loud for practice or small gigs. When I plug my tele into it the clean channel is decent and clear, but the overdrive channel is junk and hurts my ears. I would rather run the clean channel and use a fuzz or distortion pedal. So that being said it is decent enough to practice licks on and it is tiny so it tucks away easy. If you look around you can find a bigger amp with more features used for the same price but if you want a new amp, this one is probably worth what they charge for it. I would only buy it if you have a specific purpose for it though.Roy

It's small, and pretty portable. However, the sound quality is trash, given the speaker is tiny, but the overdrive is just horrible. If you buy this, try returning it. If you can't return it, just get a fuzz pedal and leave it on clean. Imo, just buy the mustang lt25-50Hotdog Games

This is a remarkable little amplifier. The positive reviews are all justified. Very diminutive, even senior management, who tends to frown when black boxes arrive, approves. And it produces a variety of great tones in remarkable amounts bearing in mind its small size. Perhaps not for the O2, but great in our lounge and enough muscle for a small venue before it gets a bit chesty. Very happy.biga268

I use it for practice. Although it has a bass setting you can program via the phone kit, the speaker is not as good as a basic bass amp like a fender rumble. The default presets sound the best, and if you need a different sound, it's probably best to use pedals on the clean setting. The effects aren't as good as I hoped for. The chorus effect is nice; but delay, reverb, and spring could be loads better. It gets the job done and I wasn't needing the other effects to be there at all so a good purchase for me, but if you need all the features to be awesome, look elsewhere.Waukegan

Purchased this along with the Squire Bullet Tele. Worked beautifully. All effects. Everything. Then nothing. No power. Nada. Probably why it's discounted $40 when you buy the Tele. Avoid.Joe

I was impressed from the moment I hooked this small tabletop amp up. It’s got big sound for such a small package. The app is decent too, but could use some more songs to jam with. I think that overall this is a fun way to work on your music late at night or when the mood and inspiration hits. It’s loud, but not so much as it would bug any neighbors or house guests. I use it just as a Bluetooth speaker as well to jam out to my favorite tunes. I would highly recommend this little beast of an amp for its tight bass response and it’s amazing functionality. Good for busking and practice with nice tones. The wireless and drums are nice features . Good size for traveling and no need for outlet with rechargeable battery. The jam tracks and artist's songs are limited but you can stream any songs you want via Bluetooth. The price was reasonable as well.Doug

I bought the single speaker unit after being unhappy with a Fender micro and the GC manager recommended the Blackstar. Home run. I was so pleased with it, I also bought a Blackstar bass micro amp with the extension speaker. Both are superb. My primary use for this guitar amp is for when I go cruising and/or when I know I'm going to perform with acoustic players. This micro amp fits into a day pack along with my laptop and Steinberger Spirit guitar (which I love, also from GC). The flexibility of battery or AC power is wonderful. The sound for such a small unit is superb. Night before last I played my UBass with the Blackstar micro bass amp & extension speaker at a uke (two of which were amplified) jam and my bass was plenty loud enough. Can this amp keep up with big amps? Of course not. But it's perfect for certain situations … and that's why I have a collection of various guitars, basses and amps.Bill C.

Bought this as my music room is rather small and I didn't want a great big beast of a thing taking up too much room. This kit is exactly what I was looking for. It has everything I need and the nice touch with the reverb delay and distortion is a bonus. I was impressed at how loud the system is for such a small item. I run it alongside a RC300, 4 pedals and Tascam 8 track digital recIorder outputted to Techics amp with Denon speakers. I feel I'm neglecting the wife🙄, I just unplug from the mains, pick it up and wonder into the front room and serenade her ….brownie points for me 😁 I do agree with another post about no being equipped with a carry handle or even better a couple of d clips on the side where you can attach a strap and sling it over your shoulder and off you go. Bought this for quiet playing both at home and in my camping van. So needed to be battery powered and small. The sound quality was only secondary. But as with all other reviewers, I found that this thing sounds awesome. Just yesterday, I miked it up and recorded it for a part in my current song. I'm using it mostly with a Strat, and it is quite a dark tone. Not like a Fender style amp. The IMF control can brighten that a bit – however the sound of the amp is pretty fixed. But it is a good sound. The delay is awesome for ambience. I live in a small flat, and in the past, unless recording, I would always just play unplugged. But now I always grab this little thing and plug it in. Far more inspiring. I'm yet to need the 2nd speaker. But the power supply is useful. PMT also did the best price online. Thanks.B M.

This is a really good bit of kit (apart from the way it looks, which isn't the best!). It makes a great Bluetooth speaker for streaming music – plenty loud, with good (faked) stereo separation, and the bass isn't bad for a small speaker. The guitar modelling sound good, and works well at low volume. And I can get 3 sound sources running simultaneously, which is useful : 1. A guitar plugged into the Input 2. A keyboard plugged into the Aux In 3. Music streamed over Bluetooth So, the sound is good, the connectivity is good, the downside is the software: 1. Tone Room works well, once you've got it to work at all. I had to try several different drivers from the VOX web site before I finally got Tone Room to connect from my laptop over Bluetooth. I eventually gave up trying to get Tone Room to connect from my Android phone. 2. The bundled JamVOX III software is incredibly ancient (last updated in 2013!!!), and doesn't manage to chop out the guitar solo's particularly well on the songs I tried it with. 3. There's not much of a community out there uploading tones and patches etc. Finally, I could have paid less elsewhere, but I really appreciate The Captain's video reviews, so I decided to pay an extra £10 to get it from Andertons.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

Overall: I bought this after getting tired of waiting for my Positive Grid Spark to ship. I watched some videos and pulled the trigger. zZounds had the amp at my door in 24 hours. Wow! I immediately dialed up what I expected to be my primary sound — the "Brit 1959" amp. Absolutely horrible. The sound was weak and uninspiring. Even with the pre, post, and eq's dimed, the amp was nowhere near an early era Malcolm Young tone. (The target.) The JCM 800 and the Orange Rockerverb sims aren't bad–but those amps have completely different drive characteristics. At this point, I had not yet written-off the Adio completely. I streamed my iTunes through the Adio via Bluetooth, and this was the final nail-in-the-coffin. The plastic cabinet has a very specific resonant frequency that is only augmented by engaging the "Wide" mode. The songs I have known my whole life sounded completely different when played through the Adio. Even streaming "Avengers Endgame" through the Adio unpleasantly colored the audio. And again, engaging the "Wide" mode only degraded the audio further. I am returning the unit to purchase a Yamaha THR10II–which is what I should have done in the first place. (Damn your review, Lee Anderton!)They made me fill-in "manufacturer support." I have had no experience with Vox customer support.Brian

OK, I do jokingly refer to this as the "Vox Tone Purse" because it's gotten such flack over its looks. In person I think it looks fine, and I don't really care that much. Here's the deal – I generally have to put my stuff away when I'm not playing, I live in a small place. Sometimes I don't feel like getting out the pedalboard and bringing an amp into the living room, etc. In those cases I grab the Adio and sit it on the ground next to me. This thing sounds plenty good for what I use it for. Generally practicing or noodling while watching sports. I like clean-to-slightly crunch tones with reverb. I don't use the other effects much, and I've played around with the Tonelab app a bit, but not much. I just dial in a tone and play. The tones I get are satisfying and good enough – I like the tones out of my amps better, but for a small practice amp I'm fine with it. About the 50 watts – there is plenty of volume but this thing will not keep up with your average 50 watt, 12 inch speaker combo amp. It's not that kind of thing. The 50 watts is likely for clean headroom, and it's probably 25 watts per speaker. You have to use the app to control effect parameters beyond speed or depth – not a big issue. You get plenty of variety in the available amp models – I use all of them up to the Plexi and don't really touch any of the high gain stuff. Not my thing. To my ear it sounds good for clean to mildly dirty tones and has plenty of EQ and gain options which easily cater tones to single coil or humbucking pickups. Lots to like. I give it 4 stars just because nothing is perfect, but I'm very happy with this amp and use it all the time.AL

Seeing that one buyer sadly gave this product only 1 star, I was obliged to comment. You can get good cleans and some sweet sounding OD tones from this little mini. I own 14 other minis, and this is the second best. Only the Blackstar Fly and a Pignose might be a better choice, but the Pignose is a bit more than a mini, and it doesn't have the built in delay that gives this Laney a good depth of tone. I've yet to play around with the download voicings/fx, but I'm sure that will only increase my appreciation of this little amp. I'm only deducting the one point since the Blackstar does a bit better at more output with less noise, but again, with minis you need to expect that when you are driving them hard, or putting pedals in front that tend to increase the frequency range further beyond its comfort zones. Most of the time, I'm not hearing noise, just hearing one of the sweetest OD tones I've heard from a mini. The dual voicings and AUX input are also a plus.GAS Man

Laney Mini STB . Looks great and seems to be well constructed, early days yet. The basic sounds from the amp are astoundingly good for its size. I like simple knobs, and knob twiddling is what its all about. Careful use of the gain knob instantly takes you from a really lovely clean sound through slight break up to fairly grungy crunch. The facts that you have a single tone control makes it easy to shape the sound to suit your guitar and taste. The guitar level knob serves as a second soft gain, or if you like channel volume to be topped of with the main master volume knob. Judicious use of the delay 'Leve'l and 'Delay' knobs can take you from gentle reverb like spaciousness to a more experimental long delay effect. The only issue i have is with the delay 'effect' control is the absurdly small level button knob, it is too short. I don't have the largest fingers but I find it impossible to adjust unless I shift the delay and tone knobs out of the way. The drive button shifts the gain starting point and brings in some very dirty sounds indeed can get a bit fizzy at the extreme but plenty of very usable overdrive sounds are there. Using the LSI cable link and Tonebridge App is fun. It takes a while to balance the output volume of your phone/Tablet, with the levels on the amp, and the levels on the App itself . You get there in the end and have some fun sounds to play with. Given that this is a very small portable practise amp which fulfils it basic purpose extremely well with the onboards electronics , I'm not sure how much I would actually use the LSI going forward.Each to their own I guess. Not tried bluetooth yet for playing along to backing etc.Also gives you the option to use the amp as a simple blutooth speaker I guess. I decided not to purchase the PSU straight off and to try the amp with rechargeable double AA's. So far they are lasting for many hours and still going strong.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

Have the Spark 40 and am very happy with it. The Mini, not so much. Biggest issue is that it is much to easy to overdrive the speakers, especially the bass. It is not very loud. It's OK for a small quiet room, but I really can't use it outdoors on the patio. It works best sitting on a reflective surface like a table. You don't want the bottom mount bass speaker facing, say, a rug. I love the iPhone / iPad app. It has a good variety of amps and pedals, but you really can't get the same sound as a tube amp like my Blues Jr IV. While it has a variety of reverb pedals, it does not have spring reverb. A big disappointment. I really like that it is battery powered, usb chargeable and really like the Bluetooth speaker function.Dave

I fell in love with the capability of the PG Spark 40 and I had to have this mini for it's portability! I pre-ordered mine direct from Positive Grid when they were running their pre-production discounts. I've been playing on and off for about 30 years. I wish this was available then instead of that clunky, weak Squire 15 amp I started with. The app for Android and iPhone opens up all kinds of possibilities! A starting musician and use the features to play along to their favorite songs or you can look up backing tracks to tinker along with. The standard hardware sounds are very warm, and the tone cloud gives you access to an unfathomable amount of tones modeled after near all of your favorite artists! It is more than enough to appeal to the budding guitarist to keep you interested! And for more experienced players, the options that are part of this thing are incredible, and will have you noodling with your Sunday morning coffee before you know it! Got the PG Spark 40, ABSOLUTELY had to get the Mini! If you're on the fence, you won't be disappointed!Dave

The sound and tone quality from such a small amp is amazing! It sounds huge. You will quickly forget you are playing through a 6 inch cube. There are a bunch of amps and effects to create your own sound, and the Smart Jam and play along features are both fun and inspiring. Plus, the various tones in the ToneCloud are great for matching a tone to a song you are learning to play. Believe the hype from the reviews online. I will say that this is amp may not be for everyone. At 10 watts, it is not loud enough to gig with. Plus, I would not recommend this for a first amp. There are a lot of options that can be overwhelming for beginners, and the limited on-board options do not allow for simple plug and play. Beginners may want to start with something like a Black Star ID Code. There are also a few things I am not crazy about. Because of the limited on-board controls, 6 to 8 presets would have been better, plus the default presets are not that good. The amp models in the app are OK, but some sound too similar, plus each amp has the same knobs (Gain, Bass, Middle, High and Volume). Nothing to distinguish one amp model from another (Channels, Presence knob, Intensity knob, etc.). The same goes for the reverb pedals (each has 6 knobs whether or not the pedal being replicated has 6 options). The Vox Tone room has better amp and effect modeling but does not have all of the other jamming and recording options. So all of that being said, this amp is still fantastic for someone with some knowledge of amps (for example, the difference between gain and volume) and is looking for something small and discrete to play around the house (or apartment) that does not want to sacrifice tone quality. The battery power is nice for playing anywhere without having to plug it in. I've played mine for a couple hours without having to recharge. It is also a great option if you want to record your work. All in all, this is an innovative amp that is just fun to play, has a ton of options and sounds way too good for its size. Get one, you'll love it!Dan

Theres no way this thing should sound as good as it does. It really does put the OR in MeteOR… I was surprised how well it pushed my old Laney 4×12 cab as well as it did. The only thing I wished it had was a foot switch to switch between the clean and OD channels but at least it has a clean channel.ushdaddy716

Bought one recently to pair with my Telecaster. Really good 2-channel amp for the money as long as you have a decent cab to pair it with. It's loud for its size, fairly versatile and extremeply portable. The Meteor is supposed to be modeled after the Orange sound, and while it doesn't quite get there, it does have tons of that British crunch on the OD channel and it sounds pretty convincing for what it is. The clean channel is quite passable and would make a great pedal platform considering these amps have an FX loop. The tone control on the Meteor is a bit too subtle for my taste, but again, the FX loop allows for tone shaping through other means. The Bluetooth feature is all but worthless and I wonder why the extra electronics and room wasn't used for something more useful like a footswitch input for channel switching, or built-in reverb/delay. Either of those options would have been infinitely better than Bluetooth connectivity. The headphone out supposedly has cab simulation; it's not the worst I've heard but it isn't all that great either. Overall, this is definitely a great amp that is easily worth the money if you're looking for a nice practice or studio amp for British crunch and classic rock sounds.barny1515

I use the Performer at my church that is a large room. I also D.I. out the back for the sound men to handle at the board. It has the right bass response, mids, and highs, to get a clean pro sound. I'm using a Taylor 210 and 814ce with ES2.Rockerduck

Just picked one of these and it's been a joy to play. Pretty easy to use with quite a few options. Was able to dial in some tones that sound like my $800-1k tube amps. Honestly this amp is the best bang for your buck amp available imo. I really love the Waza Craft Greenback speaker. I love the .5, 50,100 watt options. Haven't even explored the software yet but I'm confident enough in this amp to give it a 5 star already. This of course is keeping in mind the fact it's essentially a budget amp price. Sound: Right out of the box? I didn’t even adjust EQs. Set volume and gain, and started playing. Took 0 effort to get 98% of the way to my live tone that is an Orange Rockerverb 100W MK2 and Marshall 212 with V30s. Features: I love the Tone Studio. I did have to pull a star from Ease Of Use because it may be confusing if you’re not good with computers. Ease of Use: If you can’t get a good sound out of this amp, return it, sell your guitars, and find a new hobby. That’s how easy getting a good sound out of this is. Quality: Seems pretty decent. I wouldn’t call it robust, but it doesn’t FEEL as cheap as the price would suggest. Value: 100% worth the price. I’d have paid $100 more for it if I’d have known how good it would sound. Manufacturer Support: I’ve dealt with Roland/Boss in the past, and they’ve always been wonderful. The Wow Factor: Looks good, sounds good, price is good. A perfect practice amp, that could stand in for a small venue in a pinch. Naturally my live rig is a bit much for my apartment, but this is just what the doctor ordered. Overall: Solid state amps have come a long way. A REALLY long way. I’ll be honest, being a tube snob, I had very low expectations. I could have set the bar in the same area as I would a $2,000 and it still would have hopped it effortlessly.Kenny

Overall: overall – maybe the best sounding low wattage amp ever. only small difference in sound between this & a tube amp. weak point is lack of features. they really skimped. twice the price of other compared to other practice amps that have way more features. you're really extra paying for tone here.pro's – * truly terrific tones* even if you have a tube amp that sounds good at whisper volumes (i have a 15w egnater tweaker) it's so convenient to be able to play this on top of your desk.* clean and modern settings are fantastic. i don't use the other amp settings much, but they sound great as well. the only setting i don't like is brit hi.* effects sound good* tap tempo* good tuner* the features are weak* pricey – other practice amps have many more features. they sound pretty good themselves (just not quite as nice as this). so if features are important to you, get something else. digital amps these days all sound not bad to downright good.* are the tones here so much better that it's really worth double other companies' amps? honestly hard to say, but this one does sound the best* can't save settings* one knob control of all mod effects is really limiting* can use the software to tweak settings and effects, but as soon as you unplug, you lose them* max volume on delay is occasionally not enough. usually it's ok. but sometimes, you want a little more & doesn't have it* as mentioned, brit hi setting not that great* the name "modern" might be misleading. i mentioned that modern sounds good, but, it doesn't have enough gain to get you into mesa rectifier range. you're going to need a pedal for that.A

I dont normally write reviews but…. This amp is amazing! After my son played it for a few minutes his first comment was what I thought about him selling his tube combo. To me that spoke volumes. I bought the foot switch , a must have because it opened up the versatility of the amp, and now plan on purchasing an FV500L volume pedal to complete the package. We cant wait to get this amp connected to the Boss website to see what the capabilities are. It definitely packs a punch and the sound is so clear at any volume.rx7357

Affordable / flexible / portable / (hopefully) reliable – no need to lug a pedal board around, just a tuner – less stress about whether modern flaky valves are going to pack up mid gig (several outdoor gigs with generators have turned me against using my valve amps for those). I have previously borrowed and gigged a friend's Katana 100 head and GA/FC, so knew what to expect. Really needs an external 8 / 16 Ohm speaker jack socket (c.f. I just played a club that holds about 300 using this amp and was very satisfied. After putting it through the paces in a live situation I would easily recommend this for the gigging guitarist. I ran the 100 watt full volume mode and kept it around 3 with the master volume up full in the clean mode. As I was using pedals, (The usual selection of overdrives and delays) I kept it in the default clean setting that comes right out of the box. The amp was mic'd with an sm57 and the speaker sounded great. Upon further inspection the variable output and full array of effects makes this a good choice for the home studio. Lightweight, loud and pretty inexpensive, I give it 5 stars.DrJ

What an awesome little amp! And plug the line outs into something bigger and you can well and truly deafen yourself with sonic pleasure. Pretty straight forward to use but you do need to watch your levels when changing amp models – they can vary a lot. Longer battery life would be a bonus and I'll def need a little bag for it. When I buy something that does so much but I don't need to read any manuals to operate it I know I've made the right choice. Sounds are fantastic, my favourite amp so far is the boutique, it feels very natural, not boomy like my previous desktop type amp. The effects are great, particularly the reverbs. I find myself taking it out of our little 'work from home office' while my wife or the kids are in there and noodling in the living room or the kitchen with it because I haven't had to faff around with power cables 🙂 It has a flat setting so I use that when I'm playing around with modeller settings for gigs rather than dragging out my powercab at home. The app is really easy to use and opens up a nice compressor plus cab options etc. The clincher for me over the smaller units is the 1/4 inch line outs, I can chuck it in the car and it's there as a back up incase my gigging amp packs up. I'm no bass player but I play a bit at home and this sounds way better than going into a guitar amp or using a bass amp on amplitube on my pc. This is easily the best music purchase I've made in recent years and I'm playing more music because of it 🙂Archie W.

I have a Marshall 1974x that I have not touched since I bought this THR30II. There is no real comparison but this Yamaha is so addictive. Clean tones are superb the crunch channel in classic mode is a my fave. The onboard effects are really good. I just shelled out e few Bob on a thorny flanger and this has a perfectly good flanger built in. The hall reverb is beyond good. In summary rock tones are good but cleans/crunch are fantastic. I trusted other reviews of this amp against things like positive grid/katana etc but this just hits the spot. I love playing the slow Peter Green blues stuff it’s perfect. It’s not a one trick pony it has loads of nice tones perfect for home use at friendly volumes than the Marshall 18 watt. Highly recommend.HappyYammyTHR p.

I bought this for a practice amp to have in my bedroom so when I feel like getting in some practice time it's always at the ready. (I have a vintage Marshall stack out in my rehearsal studio, but who wants to burn tubes and gobs of electricity for practicing.) For this purpose it's a great little amp. My only tiny complaint is that if you're hoping this is going to sound close to an actual tube amp, you're going to be disappointed. I wasn't because I didn't expect it to. I think even the models in my old PODxt sound better, frankly. Now, that said, it's good enough and with the true stereo sound and nice effects you'll still feel inspired. For example, nearly 3 hours ago I was going to go to sleep. Then I felt guilty because I hadn't really done much playing today, so I told myself that I'd just do about 15 minutes of practice and then crash out. I fired up this amp to my favorite lead/shred preset with some stereo delay and started playing. I JUST NOW STOPPED!! Even with the less-than-convincing tube modeling, this amp still manages to make practicing fun! I got it on a Stupid Deal sale and it was worth every penny!! 🤘🏻James, the Dean Guy!

I needed a small combo amp to keep bedside in my bedroom for night time playing – I have a thinline acoustic that was lacking a little in projection and bass, so I began a search for a quality affordable amp. What really appealed to me the most about this amp was the stereo speakers, and it had really good reviews. On sale I figured I couldn't miss – I was more than pleasantly surprised. This little amp took my average six string acoustic from a decent sounding guitar to a beautifully resonant, booming and crystal clear chiming guitar. The stereo set up even makes the output of the amp sound and feel like it's coming directly from my guitar sound hole. It took a few minutes for me to figure out the "Manual" and pre-set tone/effect/drive options, but it went quickly. I easily dialed in a great sounding ZZ Top-style fuzz, and really dreamy combination of modulation, delay and reverb. Speaking of the effects, these are the best sounding built-in amp effects I've ever experienced. On top of the massive stereo sound and great effects, I just love how this amp looks. Rarely do I write reviews on Musicians Friend but feel compelled to do one on this amp. I have quite a few amps from a dual stack Jet City, Vox, Mesa/Boogie and others. I just wanted to a small amp to practice on and to not lug around my bigger amps to church. The cleans on this amp are drop dead gorgeous. The crunch is really, really good. You can also manually make your own settings and save them. I don't know how Blackstar did it in getting such good sounds out of such a small package. I purchased mine here via Stupid Deal of the Day so I got mine as a real steal. If you want an amp that can be mic'd up to or just play in your bedroom, go for it! Before I review, I would like to say I am reviewing this product from a perspective as a gigging instrumental acoustic guitarist. Had to do an outdoor gig with no electric outlets available, that's when i looked into buying this thing, and it did the trick. Also had to fly somewhere across the country to do a gig where the venue didn't have a PA system, and I was able to pack this in my luggage, and this little thing did the job. For a tiny amp only a bit bigger than a Kleanax box, this thing is plenty loud. It's able to emmenate the volume to within about a 500 square feet coverage. Even louder if you play a distored electric guitar, as electric gutiar pickups don't consume as much power as an acoustic pickup. This is the perfect amp if you travel alot and need to fit something on the plane, for your living room, as a practice amp, for porch picking, camping, small coffeehouse venues (under 500 square feet), busking, or any scenario where there's no electric outlet nearby. Granted, this small little thing will not replace a PA system or something like an Acoustasonic Jr. I do a weekly coffeehouse gig (about 500 square feet) with my Fender Acoustasonic JR, and one day, my Acoustasonic JR wasn't working, so I brought in this little Roland instead. Granted, it was loud enough to fill up the whole entire coffeehouse volumewise, and although I much prefer to gig with this as it's super lightweight and won't hurt my back like the Acoustasonic JR, the sound didn't have the full definition as the Acoustasonic JR, or a real PA. Because of the tiny speakers, you only get treble, no bass response, less definition overall. However, as a portable battery-powered amp, this thing is awesome. It also serves mutiple purposes, I regularily plug my ipod to this and use it as a home stero system in my room.sman-eNpbJ

Bought the Roland MC over 10 years ago. I still own it and thought a review might help someone shopping for an amp. In my opinion, the Roland MC is a great solo or small group, highly portable, extremely low watt, practice session amp. For electric guitar, it sounds great clean with a tough of reverb, but don't expect much bass or volume. IMO, the Overdrive setting is just OK, and the Distortion/Fuzz is terrible. Before I forget, buy the AC power adaptor as battery life is very limited, especially at anything but the lowest volume settings. For the built-in effects, the chorus button works fine for the simplest applications, along with the somewhat adjustable delay, but there are lots of limitations. Consider them a nice "toy" feature of the amp, nothing more. As a PA, I found the Roland MC very useful, and used it for years with my acoustic-based, rock band as a single mike PA during our quieter practice sessions. It provided just enough amplification for lead vocals to cut through 2 guitars and an electric bass playing at low to medium practice volume levels. However, as soon as we added a drummer, it was over for the little MC. As far as battery use, I font recommend it. I tried it once on Halloween dressed as Brett Michaels playing "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" on acoustic-electric. Terrible performance. People started singing along and a friend turned up the volume…the amp had no dynamic range and actually get LESS loud the harder I strummed the guitar. The ultra low wattage of the amp severely limits its usefulness in performance scenarios. My son took the amp to college and he uses it in his dorm room where noise levels must be kept low but prefers practicing with a Scarlett USB interface and headphones and is looking for an amp with more power. OK, I purchased this amp because of it's DC power, mic and instrument channels and small size. I'll use it for busking or jamming, anywhere I want without thinking about an AC outlet. I did purchase the AC adapter which came in very handy initially, given the batteries it came with were so weak the amp would not work properly. At first I thought the amp was malfunctioning. Strange things happen when battery juice is low. In my case there was sound break up, like there was short or bad connection. With AC power or a fresh set of batteries, it works well. If small and portable is your thing and you want mic and instrument inputs, this might be just what you are looking for. I've sure had fun with mine. So far, good. As I said in the review above, don't expect a really full sound with low end bass. All things considered, if you do not need the DC power option, I would see no reason to purchase this amp.More harmonica, please

To start I didn't keep this amp. This was my 1st acoustic amp and I was torn between this Fishman and the Genzler aa mini. When it arrived the packaging was perfect and so I set up and gave it a whirl. To my disappointment the amp was making a crackling and popping noise randomly as I played through it. Wasn't real sure why but knew for the price I definitely couldn't keep it. That said, the amp had great tone I thought and loads of features! So I could have just tried another but I took it as a sign and with AMS assistance swapped for the Genzler with no hassle at all! I've heard great things of these Fishman acoustics but…I love the Genzler AA Mini. Only downside is not as many effects but it's acoustic…I really am pleased with what it offers and the sound(mic and guitar) is fantastic imo!!! Thanks AMSBrent

I did a lot of online research and played a lot of acoustic amps in stores before I settled on this one. It's by far the best in its price range. You can get quite loud with excellent clarity that replicates the authentic tone of your guitar. Playing and singing through the amp sounds great with no distortion and it does a great job of giving what I'd call space to your voice and instrument. An all around great amp for practice, busking and other live performance venues.Geoff

This is so close to the vintage sound of an old plexi and vintage fender. Played it live at the lowest power setting, cranked up, and had no problems getting out front with little effort. Can't wait for EJ tone capsule I just ordered to arrive. This is fast becoming a favorite and that's over some I have loved. I guess being light to carry on top of great sound & price (got 20% off due to sale) makes this amp a great deal.Guitarted

In my opinion, there is no way in the world this amp is worth the price. If – like the original Blues Cubes – this amp was less than 50% of the current price, my review would be much more favorable. That said, price is a very relevant to a review, and more specifically, whether the features warrant a high price tag. In this case, my answer is absolutely not. Being familiar with the previous generation of Blues Cube amps, and liking a few of the additional features on the newer version, I decided to take a chance and buy one of these. As expected from most any Roland amp, the clean sound is great, and there's good bottom end. That's the good news. Far as the features: the boost and tone switches available for each channel were nice additions – particularly the boost. To me, the Dual Tone feature which allows you to combine both channels was pointless; it felt like a waste of resources. The tiny bit of tonal variance available using dual tone did not add much to the amp. As for the power attenuator and drive channel, this is where the Blues Cube was most disappointing. The crunch channel wasn't very crunchy at all. And I had no unrealistic expectations for metal tones or anything. All I wanted was a good bluesy overdrive. Compared to my inexpensive and old Peavey Bandit 112, the overdrive on the Blues Cube was non-existent. While the amp has a fine clean tone, the tube tone claims are mostly hype. I like and respect Roland as a company, but this is nowhere close to being worth the asking price.V

Less effects than a Katana, but better tones that are just that much closer to real tube tone. It is still just slightly wetter and compressed than a tube amp, but this amp still sounds really good and is very loud. I have a Katana and a Headrush set up, both of which I enjoy for different reasons, but the Nextone Special gives me the most realistic Fender and Marshall tones.( I typically use Teles and play with clean country and jazz tones to a gritty Danny Gatton-ish) I also need a Jeff Beck/Eric Johnson tonal setup but haven't had the amp long enough to see if it will deliver that for me. The 3 presets are great and the basic boost, reverb and delay effects are just what I would typically use. It also handles pedals very well. I hooked up an EP boost, delay, various overdrives, chorus etc. and the amp responded well to them all. With the power settings, power tube selections, 2 channels, 3 presets and effects it pretty close the perfect for my needs.M. Thee

Overall: I don't write many reviews, but this amp is something, uh…special. I recently sold a bunch of tube amps and use modelers at church to accommodate our silent stage setup. I have a large collection of various guitars, and I wanted one amp for home, and possibly for gigging, that was versatile, sounded great, was a credible replacement for my previous tube amps, and was reasonably easy to use. I was drawn to the Nextone Special because of all of the front panel knobs. While that got me 80% where I wanted to be, the excellent computer-based application editor got me pretty close to 100% happy.My go-to tones are Marshall-based, Fender-based, Vox-based, and, occasionally, Mesa Boogie-based. And yes, they are ALL in here, yet with some surprises. One of the most magical elements to this amp is the power section. Not only are the power tube emulations very credible, but the bottom and top adjustments (high pass and low pass respectively) make the difference in taking great tones from the preamp section and making them almost perfect. Low end a little flubby? Then bring up the bottom control to tighten things up. Top-end a little too raspy? Just increase the top control and its smooth sailing. Using these controls is easy and super-effective…and all recallable from the presets.Marshall tones are relatively easy to dial in, and the key is in the bottom and top controls in the power section as mentioned above (using EL34 emulation of course). Vox is also relatively easy to get to with EL84 selected. I had to work on the Fender sounds a bit as my Silver Sky seemed to emphasize a nasty mid-frequency, which, in the computer-based editor, was a breeze to locate and dial out. Amazing.One of the surprises was found when trying to get the clean channel to overdrive. It is hard to do…until you bring the output power down and crank the master. There it is! And it is really good. If you want a tone of headroom, then you can get that too. Just run it on full power and engage the extra headroom switch if you so desire. Amazing pedal platform if you so desire.The next surprise was how good the Mesa Boogie tones can be gotten. The trick is to use the clean channel on an otherwise fairly American setting (EQ and power section) and then use the computer-based editor so that the boost is the Metal variant. Whoa – it totally chugs and is very musical. I was about to purchase an outboard pedal to get this sound before I tried this technique, and it is outstanding.The amp is amazing. Built like a tank as any Boss product is, and it sounds incredible. I wanted a single amp that works with all my (20) guitars and would inspire me to go into my home office/studio and just play for hours, and this has achieved that. I have read where some folks have been put off by the need to use your computer for deep editing. I understand that to some degree and, while the amp is excellent without those tweaks, it is simply incredible when you do use the editor. And it is super user-friendly. With the ability to store presets, you could very easily get things set up the way you want for a gig using the computer and then add the footswitch to access your tones at the gig.This is an amazing amp and scratches a big itch between the digital modeling world and the tube amp world. Buy one before Boss realizes they should be charging more. It's that good.John

Wow, wow, wow!!!!! I've had a Boss Nextone Stage for a while, and was looking for a similar type of amp – good valve sounds, without the weight, servicing and with a degree of programmability. As soon as the Nextone Special was announced, I knew I had to have it. The greatest part about the Special is that it's a Stage or Artist upgrade, so the controls feel familiar and the available tones are known. It's easy to get good sounds very quickly. If the two channel upgrade, larger casing and increased output were all there were to it, it would be worth the additional cost. The good news is that there is so much more. The Waza speaker is sublime. Bell like clarity doesn't do it justice, yet it still has the scope to reach down and do the deep stuff beautifully. I can't state how much the speaker is an improvement over the Nextone Stage (which is a great speaker). The two channels allow easy switching between clean and driven tone. Add to this the boost, extra head room and American/British control and the amp moves into another league. Don't mistake the Boss Nextone for a modelling amp. It isn't an up market Katana; its.an excellent alternative to a valve amp. Try one – you'll be impressed.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
