Guitar Amp Ohms Explained For Sale (Jan 2023 Update)

I just completed my Mod 102 kit. An excellent experience! I was delighted with the quality of components, clarity of instructions, and, perhaps most importantly, the sound of the amp. It is very loud – currently running into my Fender Twin Reverb cab (2×12) and very sweet! I will be running it into a new 1×12 cab with a new Celestion G12 M Heritage 'Greenback' when I get a case for the speaker (on order). My only criticism (and something to look out for) is that the chassis is very nicely painted in gray gunmetal paint. Even following the directions to file all the holes, it is very hard to get a good ground connection at every point a terminal strip connects. I worried about this, and about 1/3rd of the way through the build, took an ohm meter to check all the connections, and as I had suspected, some of the connections were not great (9-10 ohms or so!) So I removed the terminal strips (with the components I had already soldered still attached) and scraped away the paint under the tabs of the strips to ensure a good connection. Re-testing showed virtually zero resistance. I'd strongly recommend scraping the paint away at all holes under the chassis before getting started on the build. Even better, suggest that Amplified Parts leave the inside chassis unpainted (at least around the important holes). Aside that one criticism, I am delighted with the kit and with Amplified Parts. I spent three evenings building the MOD102. The instructions are very easy to understand and the amp has a great Fender sound. I had one grounding issue that was easily fixed with a little help from tech support, which was excellent. If you're good at following step by step instructions and can solder well this is a fun little amp to build. Only small issue is the labels. They could stand an improvement.Brandon

I just finished this amp build and it sounds fantastic! I also just finished a Marshall 18 Watt clone and I have to say that the Mod102+ holds its own very nicely alongside the Marshall. In fact, I will probably use the Mod102+ for recording because it sounds amazing at lower volumes (the Marshall is loud AF). Honestly, if I were only going to build one of them today, it would be the Mod. I'm blown away by the tone! Great kit with excellent instructions. Great bang for the buck. The parts all seem to be top quality. I love the old style cloth solid core wire, too. I find it much easier to work with than modern stranded wire. The labels are a bit lame but I covered them with packing tape as suggested before cutting them out and they look fine. If you're thinking about building an amp, build this one.danjbeckett

Recently bought this thing after saving up for months. I pretty much ripped it out of the box, plugged it in, powered it on, went through the very quick and simple setup process, and in minutes it was ready for use. I’ve now had it for a few days and already it has made my life a ton easier. Being a musician that goes on the road a lot, carrying around an amp can be a huge hassle. The Kemper eliminates that hassle, while also maintaining an amazing tone. A few things to keep in mind, though:

1. It doesn’t create an EXACT carbon copy of your amp, but it comes EXTREMELY close, so close in fact that I, having played guitar for around 7 years, can barely tell the difference, and the very microscopic differences there are, are nothing that can’t be ironed out with small tweaking to the EQ, specifically the high end

2. The volume may vary depending on how the venue has their sound system set up, so that’s something to be mindful of. You may switch on and blow eardrums at some places, or you may switch on and barely hear anything in other places, so be mindful of that.

3. You will have an amazing tone, so just be mindful of that as well. Even the stock profiles sound great, but the Kemper is taken to a whole new level once you start using your own profiles, as well as commercially sold profiles, such as the ones from Tone Junkie.

The built in Performance mode also allows for a seamless switch between up to five different rigs at the click of a button, which would be impossible to do using only analog gear.

The Kemper can be a pretty big learning curve, though, especially for people like me, who have used analog gear for years, and were even leery of making the switch to digital at first. But after the initial learning curve and getting familiar with it, I promise you will be glad you made the switch.Brandon Johnson

I bought the 600w version after a ton of research and inner debate. I had solid state rack stuff in the early 90's and hated it. It always had something missing from the tone, it seemed shallow and fake. I turned into a die hard tube guy after that. I pledged never to buy any computer amp ever again. I dismissed the Kemper at first. But once I saw some videos and heard some profiles, I was a little interested. I couldn't get past buying a computer and having 1000's of tones at the turn of a knob. Once I heard it live, thru a cabinet in a rehearsal space, I was floored and very surprised. My friend went from a 68 Marshall to a 6505 to a Fender Twin Reverb with a turn of a knob in seconds. I've owned very expensive tube amps with very distinct tone signatures I thought could not be replicated. I was 100% wrong. I profiled my Engl head and did a blind test to see if I could tell the difference in tone once I shaped it up. I honestly couIdn't tell the difference. When I guessed, I picked the Kemper 4 out of 5 times. I went to the rig exchange and found a profile that was reasonably close to a 59 plexi. I tweaked it for 10 minutes. Within that 10 minutes, I saved thousands on a new tube amp. The Kemper is a perfect fit for the skeptic. There's a million forums and tutorials out there so you'll never feel lost. Once you learn the menus and how to dial in a tone or profile an amp, you're hooked. This is the most versitle amp I've ever owned. I am completely satisified.Rob

Like the title says, you can find 1000's of these for sale used and there's good reason for that. It doesn't sound like tube at all. I think it's good for the studio where I've used one. But live? If you're fine with a solid state head, then fine. The modeling really isn't any better than higher end Line 6 modeling. This past labor day, Great White was playing a festival near by. They had a total of 8 Marshall 4×12's on stage with 4 DSL 100 heads. Not one of them was powered on. So I looked around for what they were going to use, I saw 2 Kemper Profiler heads. 1 for each guitarist. The sound was absolutely terrible. Neither amp sounded anything close to a Marshall or like tube for that matter. You could hear the cab emulation a mile away. At this price point go another direction. Not only does this 5 watt lil' monster have enough power to rattle the windows, it also has class! At only 9 lbs. the Bugera T5 Infinium has enough "UMFF" to push your favorite 4X12" cabinet into the stratosphere! It's better having this reverb built into this lil' madman than not having any at all. Just like 9/10 of the other amp heads in its class. The 1 channel, "all tube" head has warm cleans. Push in the PHAT switch and crank the volume and gain and you get saturated distortion that will blow you away! All of that in a 9 lb metal cage like package for only $200! You won't find another 5 W head with all of that for this price. I love my T5 Infinium from Bugera!brmul-8207

What it's not: Not a $1k boutique tube amp. Not a mid-size club amp (unless you have great monitors and a good sound guy). What it is: A well designed, very affordable little monster that will give enough stage volume at 5W for rehearsals in a full rock band or small club, and will also allow you to drive the output stage at that 1W or 1/2W setting for recording at home. The amp sounds best at 5W and driven into either a 4ohm cabinet or two 8ohm cabs. If you use it to drive an 8ohm cab, you are getting only 70% of its potential. I only use el84 based amps. i love their dark, throaty sound, and while this amp doesn't have the punch or snap I get from my 15W custom built el 84 amps, it sounds great for rehearsal or recording. I am a little bit worried about long-term build quality. The input jack is plastic. I have a hard time seeing that surviving a year of rehearsals without breaking. This is a great supplemental amp for rehearsals and recording. Very smartly designed. Good feature set. And if you like the el84 style sound, it delivers it above expectations at this price range. In these days of small solid state, practice amps, this little amp gives you tube tone and more at a very affordable price. A 12ax7 preamp tube and an EL84 power tube provide the tone along with built in reverb, 2 band EQ, gain and a "phat" overdrive switch for added crunch. The three stage attenuator is a nice touch. The stock Bugera tubes are OK but I switched them out with Tung-Sols which provided a rich creamy overdrive more to my liking. Great sound when plugged into my Orange 8" or 12" cab plus headphone jack for late night playing. Great amp for the price!Isom

With C19 I was looking for a good home tube amp and the Revv D20 way exceeded my expectations. The sound is terrific. Works well with my hx effects + pedal board. Attenuates onboard from 20w to 4w. And when I need to be quiet (headphones) or just want to pull tones into my DAW, the Two Notes torpedo is really good. I'm really glad I bought this Amp.Ira

Great sounding amp and the built in two notes cab sim is great. Great metal tones but you’ll need an overdrive pedal to really get the most out of it. Clean tones are gorgeous. MIDI is simple to use to change the channel and various other parameters too. What a fantastic amplifier this is. Worth every penny. The High and Low power settings both give different sounds and are equally usable. For more gain I use a Korg Nu:Tekt Over Drive pedal, they go very well together. I use beyerdynamic DT770 Pro headphones with the cab sim output every day! Have not stopped playing this amp since it arrived and I would say to anyone looking for an amplifier like this that if they are in a position to do so, then buy it without hesitation. My Shergold guitar and my Gordon Smith guitar go so well with this amp- both guitars have Humbucker pick ups and definitely give me the kind of tone that I have been looking for since I first heard JoyDivision more than 40 years ago. The amp works well with my Gibson ES330 guitar too which has P90 pick ups and is sort of an upmarket Casino. If anyone knows the sounds of Bernard Sumner with both the Shergold Masquerader and the ES330 then this amp sounds a lot like his setup without the punishing volume of his Vox. I have also been able to get the Neil Young Cortez the Killer tone pretty convincingly too. No regret at all in buying this amplifier and if it breaks would buy another without hesitation. I should perhaps add that this is the first Valve Amp that I have ever bought after many years of building my own Valve Amps.David C.

Still early…I have not tried all of the advertised features. But instead of useless sounds, the factory presets are a set of very nice clean tones. Of course, the small, light box with 300 watts was what brought me here to begin with. As a bonus, I found that I can switch tones with my small midi controller (midi mouse) to give me a 16 channel amp. Love it. Cant wait to try all the other features.the-blues-man

Absolutely love this amp! Easy to customize, great tones. My only complaint is the lack of available rack ears, and the wired foot switch. Although I’m going to get a MIDI foot switch, the 4 button wired would be perfect for most gigs, and has a nice small footprint.Al and Tamara Hayes

Bought this amp based on many reviews on youtube, looked at many other models first but am glad I decided on the Amplifi 150. Also bought the FBV Shortboard MKII, a must have in my opionion, more on this later. Amp has excellent sound and can be used as a wireless bluetooth speaker. When I downloaded the Amplifi app that is when I really found out what this amp could do. You can play a song from your music library through the app and it will quickly find/display "presets" from the cloud to try. If you find one you like you can save it the way it is or edit it to your taste. With only the amp you can save 4 presets, by adding the shortboard you can save 100 presets, in 25 banks of 4. The shortboard also comes with a built in tuner and wah/volume pedal. Using the app you create your own sounds too. Choose from 200 different amps, many different stomp boxes, delay, reverb, modulation effects. Has noise gate, compressor, equilizer and volume. It took one short call to Line6 support to resolve a few issues I had initially, easy common sense errors on my part (how to store and retrieve the presets and how to increase the music playback so it was at the same level as my gutar). Once this was resolved I have had nothing but fun using the AmplifiErt68

Kudos to Line6 for such an innovative product. First of all, this is not a tube amp and Line6 never claims it to be…so please don't try and compare this to tube amps. It synced to my 3rd Gen iPad instantly and very quickly found tone suggestions for all my songs…even some of my own band. Some were dead on perfect…others required a little tweaking to get them to my liking. This depends on what kind of guitar you have plugged in – single-coil Strat, humbucker Les Paul, etc. The Tone Editor does a great job and is very intuitive. The included instructions are pretty lame; they basically show you how to plug in your guitar, turn on the amp and sync to an iOS device. After that, you are on your own to find more information. Luckily, the Line6 website has helpful videos and a great user forum for info. I had to update my firmware from 1.02 to 2.01 to be able to play all of the 100 mfg presets. Originally, I only had the 4 presets. The upgrade was easy, following the instructions on the website. This thing is plenty loud and I think it has a great tone and endless possibilities. I use it mainly for practice and it serves that purpose expertly! Song reproduction through the five speakers is excellent.Stanlo

This "amp" (it does more than most guitar amps) is extremely versatile. The secret is in the bluetooth connection to the Line6 app called Aplifi (free download) which allows you to edit your patches on your IOS device (an ipad is much easier than an iphone). Pick from 80+ amps, a large selection of pedals and effects, and drop-and-drag them into any order you want – then hit SAVE and you have that sound at the touch of a button. You can share your sounds with others via the Line6 library – and you can download other patches as well. The unit has 4 preset buttons – so your first 4 presets are accessable even if you don't have the app, but you really need to the app to edit the patches. Match this with a Line6 floor pedalboard (make sure you use Cat5 PATCH cable and not CROSSOVER cables) and you've got a great rig. It's loud enough that you can hear it on a stage in a club against other combo amps. There are a lot of modeling devices out there (Line 6 boards) but the trick is finding the full range flat response speaker system that can let you really hear those sounds correctly – as if you were plugged into a recording console. This until has all the editing ability AND the speaker for the amp. It also doubles as a great bluetooth speaker system – so you can play yourspotify tunes over this with plenty of clear power. Finally, it's stylish that you can have it your living room and not look like Guitar Center. The 150w version is loud enough to keep up with most live gig bands on smaller stages (and most venues would mic it anyway). It doesn't have an option for a extention speaker or line out (to a mixer of FOH) but you can record from the USB port, so there's that option. If you have versatile playing style (I play in several cover bands so I need to go from Taylor Swift to Bruno Mars to Journey to John Mayer) it's a great purchase. I play noisy hard rock/punk/hardcore through a '81 LP Custom, '59 Reissue LP STD and '76 Fender Tele Deluxe. I have a cherry '85 JCM800 100w that I've cared for since the early 90's and was looking for a 2 channel in a smaller form factor that was still plenty loud. I originally bought the Soldano Hot Rod 25, and while it sounded great at lower volumes, I found it too compressed with not enough grunt when pushed to very loud volumes. It didn't fill the room the way my JCM800 could. I sent the HR back and picked up this Friedman. It's similar in nature to my JCM800, weighs about 20 pounds less which saves my back dragging it through the city to practice, and it sounds incredible cranked or quiet. Very responsive. Both channels sounds great. CH2 doesn't need it, but I was surprised at how great Ch2 sounds with some of the distortion pedals I have. I've gigged about 6 times with this amp and it really cuts the room. The lifetime warranty is an added bonus. At this price, it should have came with a slip cover.PTH

I can truly say after playing semi-professionally for almost 25 years that this is the best amp I've ever owned. I've had close to 60 amps: everything from the typical big names to the top boutique amps in every price range. Many were killer amps. But there has never been one, until now, that has let me honestly believe my search is over. Here's why: there's a huge difference between how an amp sounds at home or in the music store, and how it sounds, feels and performs on stage. I can get satisfactory, even excellent tones with cheap gear. But those same tones usually get lost in the mix or sound dull and thin in a live situation. In addition, while many high gain tones can sound big and intense and "wow" you at first, they lose a lot of dynamics because they're overly compressed. The Friedman Small Box sits in the mix like no other amp I've used. The mids are PERFECT. Both channels are voiced to cut through. Just put all the knobs at noon and go. There's not a bad sound in this amp. Channel one can get you into serious crunch, or it can have that mid-forward super clean EL34 tone that just punches through. It can get very clean, but the ability to add some gain makes your cleans come alive more. I actually prefer the Small Box clean to the cleans on the other Friedman amps (BE and Jerry Cantrell) that are much more expensive (in fact, price aside, this is hands down my favorite of the Friedmans). Channel two is absolutely amazing. At first I was surprised. It didn't have as much gain as I expected. Don't get me wrong, it's high gain. I just thought it would be more over-the-top. I'm glad it's not, because now I realize that any more gain would kill the dynamics. As stated, the mids are where it's at for this channel. It's ridiculously responsive. For a 1×12 combo, it's got a huge sound. The low end is just plain big, and puts my other combos to shame. Through a 2×12 or 4×12, the tone is just MASSIVE. It really is that in-your-face, hot-rodded Marsh*lly sound that so many of us crave. The Friedman Jerry Cantrell is equally impressive on the dirty channel but in a different way. It has more gain, and sounds meaner, more modern. But I prefer the Small Box dirty channel. It's simple, raw, uncompressed and just BIG. I've also come to the conclusion that a 2-channel amp is perfect for me. I'm using a Fulldrive 3 on the front end, which gives me essentially two additional tones per channel. And I actually LIKE having a shared EQ for both channels. While having separate EQs sounds more flexible in theory, in practice I found on those amps that I'd set the EQs so similarly, that there was really no point in having two sets of tone controls (not too mention I hate having too many knobs). And, if you set the EQs differently, I find that it's hard to get a good balance in volume. I like the idea of clean and dirty having the same base tone, just with a lot more balls and gain on the dirty side. It's a more seamless experience when switching tones, and in a live situation your levels can be more easily matched. The build quality of this amp is outstanding. Just turn a knob or flip a toggle switch, and you can feel the difference between this and cheaper amps. Of course, Friedmans aren't cheap. But if I factor in all the money I've lost buying and reselling lesser amps and pedals, I could've saved a ton of money if I had this amp years ago.Skinvoyager

Amp sounds great a lower volume's, tried with several cabs but landed on a v30 greenback mix in a 2×12. This amp doesn't need to be set with everything on 10, it can be bright or warm meaning tone controls do a lot. The loop works great and is very transparent. Plexi channel is really good for clean stuff(at least for me) and can be goosed with boost or OD. Dirty channel is classic all the way to hard rock. We have a couple of nice amps kicking around and this Smallbox is a keeper, plus got a killer deal from MF. All around I'm super happy with the purchase.Joe

Overall: I run this into a Bugera ts1x12 with a WGS veteran 30 @16ohm and a Joyo vintage overdive in front. Very surprising how versatile the tone knob is with the different tone stack switches. Despite what people say this amp can do clean. You have to turn the volume up high and use the gain as a volume. It even says this in the manual. I have a Bugera G5 that does cleans very well so I don't worry about that. Before I even turned it on I swapped out the 2 12ax7 preamp tubes for a pair of matching Tung-sol 12ax7s so I can't speak to the sound of the stock ruby tubes. I am using a dean VX with guitarheads hexbuckers and a ephiphone strat with hsh pickups (guitarheads z-buckers and a no name dual rail single coil in the middle). It is a 1w amp so don't expect it to sound as loud as a bigger amp. I play about half way on the volume knob and that is plenty loud for my apartment and it has plenty of low end chunk at that volume. The overdrive just gives it a little sizzle but you don't really need it. For the money there is no better small tube head for metal or rock. The Bugera G5 retubed with Tung-sol pre and JJ power tube comes close but this is just thicker sounding distortion. I will never sell it.David

I bought it on impulse during Black Friday and I'm so glad I did. I had been looking to get a tube amp and at the price this thing went for it was a no brainer. But price aside this amp sounds great. I was looking for a high gain metal amp and this fit the bill. I only have combo amps which means I do not have a speaker cab to hook this too but I used the midi out and hooked it to my PC using an audio interface. The high gain sounds are tight, clear and perfect for modern heavy rock/metal. I do plan to get a speaker cab for it, however for recording rock/metal it is so easy to use and I personally love using a real amp to record with instead of a software plug in to emulate the high gain sound. It's also small enough to sit on my PC desk.Supergoat94

I picked this amp up hoping it would be a nice quieter tube-amp option. Randall is known for high-gain, and even at just 1 watt, this amp has gain for days. In fact, that was one of my knocks against it, i had a hard time dialing in a nice clean sound. The breakup happens very early in the pre-amp stage, so if you're looking for anything resembling a clean tone, this amp doesn't excel there. It would be great for the metal player that can't crank up a 30, 50, or 100 watt tube amp in their apartment, but you need high-gain tones. Overall, i wasn't as impressed with this amp as i am with the Positive Grid Spark 40. Two different beasts, but the Spark 40 has way more value to me in this product range.Tanner's Favorite Things

After hearing this amp in person i was very curious about it. I just picked up the head and matching cabinet and i have to say that it is amazing. The low end is so tight and focused and it really does sound and feel like a very high end tube amplifier. I also wanted to mention that this thing is capable of being incredibly loud. After spending some time with it I am very happy with the purchase and have dialed in some amazing sounds. I pulled it out of the custom wood cabinet and put it in a rack for easier transport to gigs. I know this is expensive for a solid state amplifier and i hear that argument quite a bit but after hearing it and playing it I am sold.Justonemoreguitar

Many comments about price and value for the money. I actually own one and I can tell you it's a very well built, authentic sounding amp. The base amp tone and the included "brown sound" capsule cover a wide spectrum of tones – more than most would consider or need. In my opinion it's worth the investment if you can afford it. Open the box, tested with a Katana 2×12 cab, sound was awesome. Same goes to a Laney 2×12 but sounded much more better. Considering the size of the Amp1, the Nanotube is a real deal. Drives is authentic. Growls like the full tube amp head. Cleans nicely from high to low gain. Tried again with a Yamaha powered speaker and speaker out to a BluBox, cuts through with the band easily. Overall: I've been looking for portable, potent, Plexi and then some Marshall tone and kept trying little modelers. Most sounded fine, but I struggled to get them right. I have so many great Plexi sounds…and then some…in my Kemper, but wanted something to fit in a gig bag. I remembered having seen Jack Gardiner's video about this and LOVING the sounds he got. When I played this at NAMM 2020, Hall D was just too loud to really appreciate it. But I remembered liking it. So I ordered it. Wow! Let me tell you, I like it so much I just ordered the Remote1 switch for it to use it for more than just a travel option! This thing sounds phenomenal!More often than not, clean channels sound like afterthoughts. This amp has a beautiful clean channel and when combined with the boost gives you excellent, chimey, pushed clean and Vox-like tone. Henning Paulie had Thomas Blug on and they got really close to his Morgan AC30 style amp. Frighteningly close! Well, it really does it! And the dynamics of this amp are incredible. Even with the boost engaged, I can roll the volume down and clean up the vintage and classic channels nicely! I have a lot of amps. This hangs with the big boys easily. And it takes pedals as well as any big amp. I am so happy I can stop looking for a plexi for my gig bag. zZounds has a great return policy. It won't hurt to try it. But I promise you won't likely send it back. I know I won't. This is a keeper.Randy

I bought this for an upcoming camping trip and I am very happy with the tone and volume when using AmpliTube. I usually use an AXE-FX III through 4000w of FRFR speakers so I am really spoiled tone wise. I wasnt expecting much but at the price point it was worth a try and I must say I am quite pleased.galacticore

I didn't have huge hopes for this, but the second I turned it on the hissing white noise sound that came out made it clear that this amp was not for me. Even without anything plugged in and all of the knobs turned to zero, as much as I turned up the volume, that's how much noise I got. This DID not work at all for me with the Amplitube phone app, but did with the Amplitube computer app – with some significant drawbacks. The audio level was low, and when I turned it up to get some usable volume, that ever-present background noise just killed the tone. Sorry, but I cannot recommend this.B.G.

I ordered a positive grid 600W head it arrived defective and I returned it the next day I then ordered and paid for a second one because I didn't want to miss out on the deal. Well today I called them because the second head was not being shipped and I was told that I would not be getting the second amp because they were out. They are refunding all my money that's not the problem the problem is I was told they had another to sell me which I was find with even though they should have set one aside because they knew the first one was being shipped back. I was not even offered a deal a a rack one which they have in stock I think I should have been offered a deal on one of the other positive grid. This amp is incredible. Having pretty much any sound at my fingertips, in a unit which can go from whisper quiet (but still great sounding) to stage volume is awesome. The knobs/switches etc all feel like very high quality, and the added software licence is a nice bonus. It may seem pricey, but it is way, way cheaper than buying all those classic amps, and the sounds are indistinguishable. Can't recommend highly enough.malediction99

I was very excited to get the Bias head after many reviews online. To my disappointment, it seems that this amounts to a midi controller for the Bias Amp software and pretty much nothing else. Unfortunately, I was not able to get any kind of usable tone out of this (possibly due to my own lack of understanding or maybe it needs to be run out of a cab) but, the thing that made me give it a two star rating is that I found out the Bias FX software cannot also be used with this head. There is so much more that could have been done with this thing. This product does exactly what I wanted it to. I have to play a wedding with my acoustic at an outdoor event this week where there is no electricity. With an acoustic guitar, you do have to watch where you place it because it will feedback if you're not positioned correctly, but that's no problem because I'm outside. The squeal knob is pretty much worthless to me, but maybe it's better with a solid body electric. I purchased a battery operated ZOOM MS-50G pedal, just to add some eq, compression, chorus, delay and reverb to the Pignose and I couldn't be happier with the results — especially when you consider that this is a battery operated amp.inthesticks53

Don't think this amps 20 watts will be loud. My Jca22h 20w will bury this amp on less than 1. Most 15w and some 10w amps will out do the pig by a long shot[even a 5 watt tube amp] The pig does'nt have a lot of clean headroom either but it's enough for what it's for. It has a decent crunch and distorts easily with humbuckers at higher volume. I don't personally care for the "squeal" knob.Too much "odd" harmonics. What its good for is that it's rechargeable, super portable, and the charge lasts a good bit with the dual beefy battery packs in the back. You can take this anywhere and play. No electric….no problem. And that's a good thing. The best feature is the built in battery packs that can be recharged. Lasts quite a while on a charge too. Well built. Feels and looks solid. You can buy a Fender champion 600 tube amp for the same money or a Fender frontman 25 for less but they're either much larger and you have to have juice to run them. I got this as a kinda "backup" to my Marshall DSL40. Im mainly a home player, but this amp is well made and sturdy yet very portable. I think it would fair well in a gigging environment. Its smaller than most 1×12 tube combos which is nice. FYI, I'm using this amp via the four cable method with my GT-100 mainly for switching capability and some effects…delay, gate, wah etc(I have separate settings programmed for my DSL as well). This is a loud amp if you want it to be at 80 watts but also sounds good at lower/moderate volumes. The clean channel shares an EQ with channel 2 but that's not an issue for me. The clean is very clear and punchy. The stock speaker is exceptionally good. The gain channel is really brutal and gets you into Dimebag territory. It packs a lot of great features into a small 1×12 such as an effects loop, XLR speaker emulator out, mid scoop and bass boost features. So here's the thing. This really is a metal amp. If you're looking for a super versatile amp, this may not be for you. IMO, channel 2 it sounds best when the gain is all the way up and you are playing metals riffs and soloing. Im not saying you cant lower the gain and play some crunchy stuff, I just think it sounds best gain cranked. You WILL need a nose gate. I have an ISP in front of the amp and a gate from GT100 in the loop. This is one of the best amps on the market for the money for hard rock and metal. It may not have the bells and whistles of some of the modeling amps out there, but I think it blows them away as far as tone. You can always add effects via a MFX processor.Rob L.

I bought this because of the fairly positive reviews but, more importantly, because the description says that it has "spring reverb." Guess what! It DOESN'T!!! It's a digital reverb. I was specifically looking for a 40 pound combo to have actual spring reverb if that is what is listed in the specifications. Here's the rub: the customer service person here at MF, who admitted to me that he is, in fact, a guitarist, could not comprehend that there is a difference between an actual spring reverb tank in an amp and a digital model of spring reverb. "It has a reverb knob," he responded. I tried to convey that if the description said, for example, "tube amp" and it was a solid-state amp, that would be deceptive, and this is no less so. I argued and pleaded to no avail. SO, as a result, my return was processed as buyer's remorse and, therefore, I'm out the shipping charges. Preposterous! Even when I argued that, had it been properly described as having a digital reverb chip I would NEVER have bought it, I still couldn't convince these folks that this is akin to false advertising and that I should not have to pay to ship this misrepresented piece of garbage back to them – which cost me half the price I paid for the dang thing itself. CAVEAT EMPTOR. And watch these MF policies. . . they are not so customer-friendly any more, and have lost a 20 year loyal customer in the process of this transaction. .Taken advantage of and mistreate

This is just a no nonsense power house. They don't put clothes over the speaker because it's very high quality. They don't try to make it sound like 4 different amps with all these effects like my fender 40 watt champion, which none of those sound great. The gain on the clean channel adds warmth. The emulated speaker line out is nice for recording or wherever you need to run it. Very nicely surprised by this purchase. Best in it's class. I've owned the 50 watt Marshall solid state as well. You can't go wrong with this one. I've been playing guitar for 49 years. I've run my Gibson SG through it as well as my Les Paul special with P 90's. AwesomeRalph Eagle

I really like this amp. I bought it used at a really good price, so I was very pleasantly surprised at how nice it sounds. It has loads of power and nice tone. I bought it as a practice amp, but I wouldn't hesitate to use it on stage in a small club.voltyr

Fantastic amp for the price! The clean channel is great, and has time delay effects that is unexpected for an amp in this range. The overdrive is excellent too, and you can control different frequencies as well. It also has two inputs for guitars, and a microphone input! So you can jam with friends and sing along. At 40w output, it is pretty loud. If you are in the fence, get it! You won't regret it!integrationbyparths1
