Very good condition with only two small chips in the heavy lacquer finish as shown on the pictures. if not for the chips, i would call this excellent condition. the chips are superficial and in no way affect the tone or playability of the guitar. i am the original owner and bought this as a campfire guitar but it's a touch heavy for me and i'd like 14 frets clear of the body where this neck joins the body at fret 12. i just don't find myself playing it as much as i'd like. time for someone else to have it. if you are a slide player or love that 1930's style blues, this is a great guitar. gretsch makes great inexpensive instruments that are fun to play.softcover gretsch case included. this is an extra that did not come with the guitar when i bought it.

I. Bought this G9200 several years ago. It's easy to play and has a great warm sound. I added a 12 Bar Blues pickup to it so I run it through my Positive Grid Spark amp with wonderful results. I use Ernie Ball Aluminum Bronze strings which gives it a sweet response. It's a great blues instrument but just as punchy with bluegrass.Earl

Someone I know bought one and mentioned it on Facebook, reminding me of my interest. I did some searching and checked "Watching" on a few listed on eBay and about a week later I saw a price drop on this one due to a rust spot on its metal cover so I purchased it . It needed a neck adjustment when it came but that was fairly easy to do. This is a nice quality dobro type for the money. I'm guessing its all laminate. Which is fine with me. The cone is good sounding, it has a bone nut, and came with good quality strings. I got it for a western gig coming up for the looks. The fact that it sounds good it an added plus to boot. I also play delta blues bottleneck slide. String heights on the lower seven frets is easy to play. (Someone once told me there is no money above the fifth fret) It gets a little high at the 12th but I'm not playing speed leads up there. Its perfect for bottleneck slide. I have lots of guitars. I really didn't need it but I like it regardless.AZ RESO

just thought i would do a follow up review after about a year of owning this beast. i have thoroughly abused this guitar, playing it mostly outdoors in any weather that happens by. spilled beer on it, dropped it once, never cleaned it, and its never seen the inside of a case. in spite of all that , it sounds better now than it did when it was new. it has a very swampy howl to it when using a ceramic slide, and a twangy country kind of sound with brass. i play this guitar almost every day. it seems to like d'addario reso strings best, and i change them about once a month. its built like a tank, but sounds so awesome. i can say without hesitation, this is the best money i ever spent on an instrument. get it, get yer swamp on.mrvrah
Been playing for 15 years never had a resonator before have been eyeing gretch and their wares for awhile now cause the things are just so dang classy looking and I've dabbled on a couple hollow electrics made by them at music stores throughout the years and found myself more dedicated to the idea that Gretsch was the maker of my next guitar but long story short my last remaining guitar a dreadnought acoustic was snapped in two but the children one day and I went a half year with no guitar till I found a very gentle used G9200 on craigslist for 250 guy had 20+ guitars and was offloading a few I bought it without playing it just because of what it was and when I got home and played for the first time I was like a child in a candy store I was basically floored by the guitars payability and tone responsiveness And action which I'm assuming the guy adjusted from what I've read on other reviews this is the best guitar I've ever personally owned and it was used when I bought it is easily best couple hundred and some change I've ever spent on music I would recommend one of these to anyone If it sounds this amazing used I can't imagine what it was like new if your considering purchasing one don't pass it up buy yourself your new favorite guitar and be done with itChristopher Boelter
Best value I found. Can't stop looking at it. Heard some resonators that had better tone, but none at this price. Love the style & size. Action is lower than I thought, and it's not stocked with resonator strings, as the neck is built like a standard roundneck guitar and may be stressed by the heavier guage. This is great for adding spice to pickin' your folk, bluegrass, blues songs, but not so much for laying it down as a lap slide; it SOUNDS great when you do that, but the action doesn't give it any advantage over laying down a standard guitar. It DOES sound fantastic for playing standard slide & pick songs. My only sound complaint is that the resonator doesn't pick up well on soft plucking (I don't use a pick), so if you play gently it sounds like a regular guitar with a slight twang. Put some fire into it, though, and it'll ring out like it came alive. All in all, great value, versatile, comfortable & easy to play. I have owned several resonator guitars and the Gretsch is one of the best for the price. However its drum type resonator cavity does not have quite the volume and tone as my previously owned Wechter Sheerhorn. I have had both the mahogany and the maple versions with round soundholes and F-Holes. That being said, the Sheerhorn I purchased for 600 dollars a few years ago has gone up to 1095.00 now. If you are a budget conscious person such as I am the Gretsch is a good buy at 499.00 I purchased mine slightly used at 359.00. I have no interest at all in buying a high dollar resonator when the Gretsch sounds so good for the price.mikeguitarbuilder
I injured my wrist so i can now longer chord a guitar or make the long chords on my mandolin. I still needed to make music. I had never played a dobro.. but took to this very quickly. This dobro is very easily tuned.. and stays that way. Its easy on the strings and when played thru the Jerry Douglas box.. it has unlimited sounds. It sounds the best when unplugged.. but i like acoustic music. For a beginner or an experienced player.. you cannot go wrong with the G9320.Boliver Shagnasty👀

I have wanted to get a mid-priced resonator for a while, and read some good reviews of this guitar, so pulled the trigger on buying one. It looks good, and has a nice tone (although it doesn't sound as loud as other resonators to me). I would prefer the action to be a little higher, but I think it might be improved by putting slightly heavier gauge strings on, so I'll probably try that rather than raise the action. The pickup is on the quiet side, but the sound from it is OK, and I can improve it quite a bit by running it through a SansAmp driver. When looking closer, I'm not so impressed with the finishing, particularly around the f holes, where it's just sloppy. It looks like the holes were cut then sandpapered rather than trimmed carefully. The edges of the f holes are obviously stained like the rest of the body, but no finish has been applied, so they look rough and dull. The headstock is also not finished well, and it also looks like a rough cut was then sanded. Overall it's a good guitar, but it does have a few build issues that I wouldn't expect to see on a guitar in this price range.Michael M
I am impressed with this little resonator. I also own a Regal RD-40 so this is more a comparison. The short scale gives this a nice tone that is a bit more for slide only than the Regal which is a 14 fret to the body. It comes with very light strings, which are more suited to picking vs. slide. I put on a set of Curt Mangan customs (check out his website), which are 16 18p 26W 36 46 56. This resonator is so sweet with heavier gauge strings it defies description. I have it tuned D A D F# A D which seems to suit this resonator. It has excellent harmonics and some very subtle overtones in this tuning. Seems to lose a bit (but is still excellent) tuned to a G or C. This is a keeper. I have actually played a lick that just raised hair on my neck and brought out some maniacal laughter…… this is what life is all about… and if someone tells you different they're just flipping lying. Really nice instrument. I had been looking for a Parlour guitar as intermittent arthritis in my hands has been making playing a regular dreadnought electro-acoustic or acoustic painful sometimes. I had my eye on Cort Parlour guitar as it had a nut width of 45mm and I thought it might help my fingers. Several times I nearly bought one but hearing them on various online videos there was just something stopping me. Then I came across the Jim Dandy. As soon as I heard it online I wanted one. I was dubious as the nut width is listed as only 42.86mm but took the gamble to order one. I was not disappointed. The tone is really bright and you can feel the notes ringing through the tiny body. I went to GC and tried out several small guitars, a Fender, Cort, Mitchell, I even tried a small Taylor. I honestly preferred this Gretsch to even the Taylor. The guy at GC had to go to the back room to get one, he took it out of the box and i tuned it up. Right out of the box it played great. It stays in tune and all the way down the neck each note rang true and in perfect tune (this was not true of most others). Its small but not tiny and the 24" scale makes it playable , its not just for kids. It will be an awesome travel guitar, but I play it at home too. Fantastic value!John
For the price this is am outstanding guitar. I opted for this over a little martin, mainly on the price tag. It doesn’t feel cheap at all. The fretboard is really playable and the parlour body doesn’t feel noticeably smaller than my grand auditorium shaped acoustic. I wanted a travel guitar, but instead I have put my other acoustic into its case and this has pride of place in my front room. Stop thinking about buying it and buy it!Kristian J.

Overall: I got the black one. (GL finding a case..$200.) This guitar surprised me acoustically – the bass response is far better than I expected- but ONLY acoustically! I'll probably get a Baggs Lyric for it, like the one I put in my (EPI.) DR-100. The Fishman, like all Fishman mic/pup/preamps, is JUNK – totally useless- cannot reproduce the bottom two bass strings AT ALL. I don't know why guitar makers even bother with them.The guitar of course, will need a serious setup – (cautiously, as aways..get a backup bone saddle ) take the bridge saddle down by even as much as 1/4-3/8"! The nut was fine after that (!.. I know…) YMMV of course… A special string set (like my signature Curt Mangan monel DR-100 set) will also help. I like lighter bass strings (in a GOOD guitar-this one -just- qualifies!), a pretty light set (9.5's); and a plain (unwound) g. Now it plays like an electric and sounds great for its size! My other "parlor" -an old, slotted head Washburn (But I'm dumping this one's too-large fugly rectangular glitter truss cover) And -bottom line- after seeing Jack Elliott's, I always wanted a Rancher!Rodney
Very comfortable and cool looking guitar. Mine arrived looking like a demo, Had spots that looked like someone slobbered their licorice on it. The Protective film pickguard covering was mostly off and barely on. I have guitars that still have the pickguard film all intact, after playing them for quite some time. The shipping box was totally crushed on one whole side and the guitar was not double boxed. It was just sitting in a extra large cardboard box with just sparse rolled up paper to protect it. . No bubblewrap or inside box for protection. Luckily it wasn't damaged cosmetically. Surely not how any guitar I have ever bought has arrived. The sound is very good with the exception of the awful fret buzz. I took it to a luther who said it needs at least a partial fret dressing, possibly more. MF offered me hardly anything towards offsetting that. The Gretsch acoustics are known to have a "12th fret hump," and my White Falcon also had to be fixed. This Penguin has the same issues, I don't think a brand new guitar should need any repairs. Yikes. Been trying for over 3 weeks to get it figured out with MF. I reported the issues to MF and they offered for me to return it, or that they could help pay for the repair of the fretting out. He had to talk to his supervisor about how much they would help with the fret leveling, and it was his suggestion that they could help out on the partial dressing. The second call, he stated that the most they could help with was a fifth of the cost. I said give me a couple days to ponder the situation. Haven't been able to talk in person again. Left a message asking if instead of sending it back to MF, they would just send me a shipping label to Gretsch, to have it repaired properly. No answer back on that. It's no more expensive for them to pay for the shipping to Gretsch, than back to the MF midwest facility. Called 15-20 times and the person handling it has been unavailable.. I love my little Penguin. It has a nice balanced sound to it that I have struggled to find for a long time. The Fishman electronics and integrated tuner are wonderful. The fit and finish is spot on. It seems to respond really well to different sets of strings. More so than any guitar I've ever owned (I think I'm on my 12th?). It almost can sound like a different guitar. It shipped ready to play. The set up was perfect for me out of the box. Usually I have to run to my Luthier when I new guitar comes. Very happy with my purchase. I'll have this one for life. What you can't tell from the photos is the binding is a gold glitter. The whole guitar is trimmed in it. You'll either love it or hate it.Mike

The color of the front of the guitar on this MF site is horrible. You can get some idea of color by the photo of the back of the guitar on this site. Best photos are on Paul Beard's store site. I ordered my first Gold Tone PBSDeluxe blind. The second one I ordered a year later through Paul Beard's shop because he goes through them and sets them up and changes anything that is not perfect. Once the second one arrived and I heard it, I shipped my first one to across country to have them do a set-up and also install a Fishman Aura pick up like I did with the other. After many youtube reviews on many makes and types of resonator I opted for the Gretsch G9240 Alligator as loved the style and trust Gretsch quality in this price bracket as have another guitar by them. I was not disappointed! this resonator rocks! fantastic quality of finish, build and sound. Came with quality strings fitted too so stays in tune and great fun playing with slide in open tunings. I don't normally review instruments because it's all pretty subjective (why do people complain about setup??). But this is a phenomenal instrument. Absolutely stunning tone! Tone! Tone! I bought this sight unseen because it was a great deal (after much prior research), but no videos I've heard do this guitar justice. Set up, as you might expect, is sort of a compromise but it suits me well enough out of the box. The instrument has no cosmetic flaws and construction is really quite good. I own other inexpensive guitars and I'd put the Gretsch near the top in terms of overall quality, and way way over the top in terms of sound. I just love that tone!DustyDreamer
A great guitar that performs well. Personal choice of course, however I tried Dobro's, Fenders, etc in spider bridge versions, and just loved the sound of the Gretsch Biscuit bridge Alligator as soon as I picked it up. I found the biscuit bridge has a unique sound compared to the spider's and the cone is def one of the loudest I have come across Build quality is good and really comes to life with open tunings. Again personal choice, however I find a steel slide is my preference over glass slides on this guitar. Playing with a capo is no problem if you so desire. I had a fisherman biscuit pickup installed with pre-amp, by a local tech, and I am happy with the result. My advice is to pick up and play as many reso's as possible until you find the sound you want. I did and I am happySimmo

Overall: I bought this guitar because I've always wanted an archtop acoustic and also because I wanted an acoustic electric for open mic nights that had a little more panache than a more traditional flat top acoustic. Score on both counts! This thing was awesome and ready to go right out of the box. I bought the natural finish because it just looked cooler to me, and man, is it gorgeous. The matte finish really lends to the look of the thing. It just looks like an old guitar from the forties, but not old in a beat up way, like a relic. So how does it sound? Plugged in, it sounds beautiful, perfect in a word. Warm and jazzy, but still bright enough to do rock n roll (or Rockabilly. Come on, this is a Gretsch). Unplugged? Well, not so much. It actually sounds kind of quiet and tinny, acoustically, but this is no fault on the part of the guitar. Anytime you have an acoustic using an electric guitar pickup, you're going to have to make a compromise. You see, this guitar comes strung with electric guitar strings. Flat wounds, actually, which are cool for an electric, but, let's face it, electric strings don't work on an acoustic. You could string it with acoustic strings, and it will sound awesome….acoustically. Electrified, it'll sound bad. So what's the solution? Well, I restrung this guitar with DR Zebras, which are hybrid strings, half acoustic, half electric. They are exactly what this guitar needed. Now it sounds amazing plugged or unplugged. So yes, definitely buy this guitar, and buy some DR Zebras to go with it and you will be overjoyed with the result. One other thing: there is one complaint I do have about this guitar. It doesn't come with a case, and it's extremely difficult to find one that fits it. Gretsch makes one that fits, but it's very expensive and no one seems to carry it.Richard
This is my first arch top acoustic electric guitar. The guitar was delivered to my house three days after placing the order. The guitar came in excellent shape. After digging through the cardboard, I was surprised to find it almost in tune. The fit, finish and appearance were perfect. I love the flat black finish. The strings were a little flat so I put some 12/56 round wound strings on. I made a minor adjustment to the bridge and it was ready to play. So far, I have plugged the guitar into a Behringer Eurolive B205 personal monitor and the The sound is rich and full, just what you would expect from a Jazz Guitar. I am very pleased. Regarding the case. Gretsch offers a hard shell case.This is, in my opinion rather pricey. I had a standard Roadrunner Classic Dreadnought case that I purchased from Musicians Friend, and from what I can see, the guitar fits well. The first time I placed the guitar into the case, it was just slightly tight when the cover was closed. Now that I have had the guitar, the padding has compressed slightly to create in my opinion, a totally acceptable fit.Brettsky
Overall: First off, I consider myself to be a hack guitarist, and as a former music critic, I should know. I have been playing a Baby Taylor 301-GB for several years, and a Taylor 110 that has been donated to my son for his musical efforts. (Happy 21st Graham!) I LOVE THIS GUITAR!!! I love the frettboard, it fits my big slow hands. I love the sounds I can get out of this guitar whether playing unplugged or with my small Fender Mustang Mini. I am hoping for big things from this guitar, and expect them to start happening soon. I don't expect to be Chuck Berry tomorrow…I'm at Steve Jones level now, but with the ease of playing, I won't be putting it down anytime soon. Joe Bonamassa by years end? Maybe.If I could nitpick, the F holes and sides could have been sanded a bit more and finished a bit better. Not sure what to expect from a Korean made product. Very impressed with this guitar. Awesome build quality. Set up perfectly out of the box. Plays great, very rich, balanced and full sound for a parlor guitar. The pickup is awesome for dirty blues, it sounds great with overdrive or fuzz but it can also stay clean with the right pick attack and amp settings. Much more interesting and dynamic tone than a typical acoustic preamp/pickup or piezo. The construction, fret work, and finish are all flawless. Stays in tune. I have been wanting to buy a Gretsch for a couple of years, so did lots of research and looked at various dealers. Delighted with my purchase from PMT. The guitar has a lovely sound without the need for using the quality pick up which is also a lovely unique feature of this model. Since been to their local shop ( Cardiff) and purchased a cover bag – again great value and quality as is the guitarJeff L.
Just got the guitar yesterday, sat with it for about 40 minutes before work.I haven't plugged it in yet, ao I can't comment on the pick-up. For a $300 price tag, I'm blown away with the quality of this guitar. It plays very nicely, comfortable neck, sounds great as an acoustic, well set up out of the box. There are a couple of dull spots on the G string– I may take it to my local guitar guy to make adjustments; but, then again, I may not bother because they're barely noticeable and may work themselves out as the guitar ages/settles in. Just thought I mention it in case someone's expecting it to compare with a $3,000 Gibson. This is a budget guitar, for sure, but it's a GREAT budget guitar– very playable with a very good acoustic sound. Highly recommend.Walter R.

This rig just oozes swamp blues. I use it for open slide and the sound makes me feel like I'm on a river somewhere in the deep south. The action was high, which is a good thing for slide. This beast is heavy… I mean hella heavy, and tends to want to slip off your lap (opposite of neck dive); I use a strap even when seated. There are no electronics (it's *so* loud that you might not really need them) and there is no strap button near the neck; you have to tie off a strap to the headstock. Only gripe is that I wish the octave was more accessible; if you're playing with slide on ring finger it's tough to get past the 11th fret.Alexander

Well I wanted to go Resonator and this fit the bill. I compared it to high end ones and there is more a difference in "bling" than quality. For an active student and amateur performer this is a wonderful guitar. Great tone. Nice Frets. Sturdy soft V neck. Wide Nut for fingerstyle or slide playing. Very loud for an acoustic. The cone is great. For the price there is nothing to complain about. If I had to I'd say a matching case would nice – with faux gator skin. I purchased the G9221 with pickup and spider bridge – and though it was a nice instrument the tone wasn't what I was looking for. So I then decided to get the G9201. I was wanting that filthy grimy ka-dunk delta tone on the low strings and the G9221 was more chimey with a sweet bell like tone. If you're not a slide player or don't specifically want that thick swampy resonator tone, the G9221 is more for you in my opinion. You get a resonating tone that can play your acoustic riffs that adds a melodic chime to them. If you are like me and want a thick growl from your resonator, the biscuit bridge G9201 is what you are looking for. Though it doesn't come with a pickup- based on acoustic tone alone these are the tonal differences I found, and for my playing style with the tone I was looking for I much preferred the G9201. That's not to say the G9221 isn't a quality instrument but based purely on tone I prefer the G9201. From an aesthetic perspective, the G9221 looks almost chrome to whereas the G9201 has the brass/metal body look but is not a mirror like chrome look in its appearance. The spider bridge vs the biscuit bridge along with differing body materials on each guitar produces 2 completely different tones. Hope this helps you make your selection.Jesse

Normally I don't buy painted acoustic guitars, but this time I had saved up almost enough Back Stage Pass to buy this one outright. So, I did. It's an amazing little guitar. Arrived almost playable, needed only a little truss rod tweaking (wrench included). Action is acceptable, could use a tweak there, too, eventually. Only a couple of negatives, and really, at this price these shouldn't even be mentioned…. The tuning machines are junk (oh well), yet it is coming around and holding tune better. The bridge and the saddle are going to be the weak links on this guitar. The saddle lets the string spacing kind of wander a bit a cheap and easy Saturday project to upgrade and replace. The pass through for the strings is made of a softer wood, I think, than it's intended to look like, there's a little "saw through" where the strings are under tension. NOW, those little quibbles out of the way. THIS THING ROCKS! Sounds like a Grand Auditorium, resonates like crazy, Has amazing sustain, and has a great tonal balance (with the original strings!). I've got it tuned in Open D right now and it is an absolute dream to play. This one has a great fret board, flat and even, nice frets, and a playable neck. No buzz. The finish is kind of hokey, but that's OK, adds character, and this thing has tons of character. I'm going to find me a nice piece of hemp rope for a strap and hit the third box car, midnight train (the start of my world tour).barn
Well my first guitar I got shipped to me had a crack nearly all the way through the neck!! Had to send it back. I've yet to be credited for that. Ugh. Anyway, I've played guitar for about 25 years. Had to stop for about a year due to an injury. I started to try and play again after a year, and my Martin and Taylor both made my wrist hurt and I couldn't play. So after a few frustrating months, I decided to get a smaller scale guitar and it would be easier on my wrist. Hopefully playing it would build my wrist muscles back up and I could play my full size guitars again. I've only had this a few days but I can actually play again without pain. I honestly wasn't expecting much from this guitar because of the low price tag but I was sure wrong! It sounds really cool (ya this isn't going to sound like my $2000 Martin) it has a real clear but bluesy sound to it. And it's really easy to play. Love the smaller size! Fun to just grab and jam on the couch. The tuners kinda suck but I've got some extras I'm going to put on there and it's all good! Only gripe I have, which is so minor…is this 'synthetic bone nut and saddle' What is synthetic bone? Smells a lot like plastic when I sanded the nut down. So I replaced the nut with a real bone nut (the giveaway of a real bone nut or saddle is that it smells like burning hair when you sand it) now it sounds even clearer and much better. I'll replace the saddle next. Isn't necessary, but the nut and saddle were a bit high for my taste. As long as I had the nut off the guitar and I happen to have the exact size bone nut, it was a no brainer to swap them out. I'm super happy with this! Worth twice the price! Just don't tell Gretsch. I'd you're thinking about it, just get it!! You won't be disappointed.Terrell
Nut slots need relieving as string action is way way high. This makes guitar difficult for a beginer to learn on and probably cause them to give up. Fortunately I have a set of $120 nut files so its no problem for me. Everything else is fine. I like the neck, the frets are well done for this price range. Its a cool little guitar for old timey blues. I'm going to put on a gretsch deltoluxe pickup and some elixers and have fun !rosmit8753

Bought one because I liked tones from these on YouTube videos. Fit and finish is excellent. Real like headstock. Good feeling neck. Mine played well out of box after I lowered pickups that were set way to close to the strings. Probably wont do a thing to it. For more I’ll bust out a Gibson. Different guitars for different feels and tones is what Im saying. My other Gretsch is a 5420T and that rocks! I don’t think there’s better for this price.Mountain Rock
The Gretsch G2210 Streamliner Junior Jet Club is a mouthful to say, but it's worth it. The guitar looks great and sounds just as good. It came in set up well. No sharp frets or dead spots. Intonation was spot on. The tuners hold tune pretty well. Pickups sound pretty good for bluesy/rock sounds. I had one little ding by the neck on mine other than that its perfect. I definitely recommend it as a first guitar or even as back up on stage.60 second review
