I recently had some repair work done on my 79 Peavey T-60 and the tech recommended these. I haven't played my T in years, and back when I did, it was in my garage band where we cranked out a lot of Zeppelin and Hendrix stuff. The T-60 offers coil splitting via the tone knobs. At 10, you get single coil. Below that, you get a variety of full humbucker tones. It has a 25.5 inch scale. It's a perfect cross between a classic Fender Strat and a Gibson Les Paul, with some Telecaster tossed in on the neck pickup. I'm finding this time around with the T that I'm really enjoying the clean tones I'm getting, playing through a Fender Princeton Reverb Reissue, as well as playing through an overdrive pedal (to get some dirt without scaring the dogs out of the room). I'm never sure with strings how much is sales talk and how much is legit technical merit, but I am finding I am enjoying the feel and the variety of tones I'm getting – single coil or bucker – from myT with these strings. I've got about six hours play wear on them so far, and there is no visible discoloration so I'm thinking they should last as long as they claim, to justify the price, which is the only reason I don't give them 5 stars. Have almost every string. Have a new Eastman t486, 335 clone, that has not sounded right with other strings. Latest we're Tite Fit 10s but they were muddy on this git. The Gibson Vintage 10s are full, smooth with great overtones. Very musical strings. They also allowed me to lower the action to spec without buzzing. I have tried many other strings but have found none that can equal these Gibson reissue pure nickel. I have tried D'Addario, Ernie Ball, and others but these are the best sounding strings i have ever used hands down! I LOVE these strings. I have about 5 sets of Ernie Ball regulars in my guitar case but they will remain there and never get on my guitar. Why? These Gibson's are SUPERIOR and literally sound 5 times better than any other string in my opinion. I can't get over how good they sound. I know I am over the top here but to me they are that good. They have a deeper full beautiful tone and they stay in tune better and they just make my guitar sound so good. I am hooked on these strings. I just ordered 4 sets as I am scared as hell that they will discontinue them for some reason. (notice they are REISSUE). An experienced guitar tech put these strings on my 2000 American Standard Strat. At first I was a little angry that the strings they put on were expensive and not the set of D'Addarrios that I left for them. However when I played the guitar I was really amazed at how nice they sounded. Just nice clear balanced jangle that stayed in tune well (though credit must be given to the the tech for some of this). I like D'Addarios and still use them on a couple guitars. These Gibsons are expensive but I will get a few sets to use at some important gigs and when I do some recording. These clearly sounded better to me than the D'Addarios and Dean Markleys that I'm used to. Richer cleaner tones. I like to change strings often and so I hate to pay a lot for strings but this is a case where I will pay up extra to get the best sound when I really need it.Mike
The gibson brite wires "customs" use lower gauge strings for D, B, and E. Although this did brighten up the tone of my les paul, the lower three strings lose a lot of their sound for soloing, especially while performing bends high up on the neck. However, they did brighten up the tone, and made playing bar chords much easier on the fat gibson neck. Still a quality gibson product, but I would not recommend the customs for this series of strings.Anonymous

I've used probably every kind of stings out there and always came back to these. And not just any les paul strings, the signatures. They are extra light on the treble end for bending and thicker on the bass side for more volume. Les picked these himself and they will make any cheap guitar sound good. They are so smooth you will be amazed. Many strings I play with feel like sandpaper compared to these. And the best part is they come vacuum sealed so they have an indefinate shelf life, so stock up! Red silk stockings? Not the wrong review, stay here. These strings have a wound ball end dressed in red silk, just for show? NO they help anchor the string, they help to prevent slippage of the windings and they look fantastic. These strings are not cheap but you do get what you pay for. They sound great and have a high degree of corrosion resistance – I have never broken one. Apart from my Strats and my Tele I use these strings on all other guitars. If you have a guitar costing hundreds if not thousands of pounds why would you put cheap strings on it? They are getting very rare so buy a set now and try them.cerieds1957

I am setting up a Chinese Les Paul neck on a cheap thin body P-90 Les Paul body and stating with Gibson stings is a good place to begin as they have been making guitar work with their bridges and strings for decades. Switching to Ernie Balls right away won't work good as I have not used the guitar for enough time to be well satisfied with the intonation and bridge placement to be happy with how it tunes. Permanantly places bridges can be a real pain and someone else knowing a string set that is known to work is a good thing.
These strings feel the best under my fingers, and that is why I always come back to them. The VR9s are great on my 60th Anniversary Telecaster. They bend easier than the Fender 250Ls that came stock. I think they wear better than a lot of strings. I never break them. I've left them on for months out of sheer laziness and they still sound better than most strings. They do wear after a while, especially on these thinner sets, but they still don't break and they stay in tune. I've thought about pulling an EVH and boiling the wound strings because they really do keep their tone. I used to use the 10s on a Les Paul that I had and they were just as reliable.Dolan

My Mitchell MS450 (single cutaway LP style guitar) came with D'Add's, which sounded decent. When I switched them out, I went with the GHS 10's on a hunch based on things I've heard. Great move! Nice, brilliant tone, rings out for eternity if you let them! I used 11's from D'Addario for years and I would break a string consistently for every show that I played. I do not know why I kept with D'Addario for so long. I figured I needed to have a heavier string gauge for durability and better tone. Searched around and came across these strings in the heavy gauge, and I could not be happier with them. These strings have great sustain, are durable, do not corrode as quickly as other brands I have used in my professional career playing music, and, despite their heaviness, are easy to play in standard tuning. Along with playing well with a pick and fingers, these strings also sound terrific when playing slide. You can get the same great tones out of these strings that Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks have with their lighter gauges, as well as channeling the fat tones that you hear from Duane Allman from the Fillmore East show. Great Garcia tones can come from these strings as well. Basically what I am saying is that you can still get those classic guitar sounds on these heavy strings without feeling like your losing tone or playing opportunities utilized by the players that inspire you who may use lighter string gauges. These strings also (as far as I know) have a round core instead of a hex core. I think that might be a reason why these strings have so much sustain, especially when you have some distortion or overdrive keeping them warm while playing lead. If you are on the fence about getting these, I recommend you give them a try just see how they work for you. They are no that expensive and its worth it to figure out what works for you as a player. Feeling confidence in the gear you use is so essential to being comfortable on stage. Buy a pack and see what happens. You might find yourself just what you've been looking for.JFromJUNCO
I used to use Boomers for about 10 years, on all my electrics (9s). Until arthritis started creeping in. Switched to EB slinky 8s, and playing became much easier. Everything still had a huge sound, but previous order added a test set of the Boomer 8.5s for my Gibson Les Paul goldtop with P90s. Took a while to get used to the rougher feel compared with the EB 8s. But will probably order another set for the goldtop, and a set for my ES295.Joe S.

I tried these strings on copy of an ES-335 style guitar. The pickups are not as alive as I would like. The strings appeared to add energy to the pickup and resonate well. The best sounding and feeling strings I have ever used. Most of my guitars have vintage powered pickups and these strings are extremely clear sounding. They sound great on my Strats and Teles. They sound fantastic on my '61 RI SG and LTD PB 500 (Duncan Alnico II pickups). They still have the "slinky" feel of regular Ernie Ball strings. They seem to last a little longer too. These are great strings. The feel like Slinkys to me, but are a little more slippery. Sustain is fantastic. I wore out a set of DR DDT (11 bottom) so, I put them on my Ibanez GRG121. This guitar has dinky weak humbuckers, but a pinch holds way longer with the strings…to the point that it feels more like upgrading the pickups. Maybe it's placebo, but I could swear they have a tighter swing too. I went thinner than the DDTs (obviously) putting these on and some of the first moment fret butt I got above fret 15 went away. After trying a few different brands and gauges of strings over a five year period I have finally found the perfect brand/set of strings for playing in C# and drop-B tunings. I started out playing Ernie Ball sets on a 25.5 scale guitar in standard tuning but when I began experimenting with down-tuning I found the EB sets to be lacking in tone and definition the lower I tuned my guitar not to mention constantly breaking my low E string. When I switched to playing a 24 3/4 scale guitar in C# and drop-B I had to start looking for a new set of strings because the EB "not even slinky" sets I had been using just were not cutting it. I tried Dean Markley Blue Steel .13's with a wound 3rd string and found the top strings to be cumbersome and the low .56 still not heavy enough for dropping the low E to B. I went to every single music shop in town looking for a light top/extremely heavy bottom set and I finally ran across the GHS .10 – .60 set on sale, two for the price of one. Perfect! These strings last forever. If you use some GHS Fast Fret on them they keep their tone better than any other brand of string I've tried and I have yet to break a string in the year or so I've been using the GHS .10-.60 sets. The tone is fantastic and they sound great on a mahogony/maple body guitar with EMG pickups. It does take some getting used to the difference in string gauge between the low and high strings but it didn't take me long to learn to adjust my pick attack for the lighter strings on the top end. If you know how to set up your guitar for heavy gauge strings get 'em and go to town! If not I would highly recommend you take your guitar to a guitar/music shop and have it set up by a pro. Oh, for you kids out there: these strings are NOT meant for standard tuning and they will not make you sound like Zakk Wylde but they might make you a better guitarist if used as intended. touring in the 80s I used GHS boomers GBCL, I stopped playing in the 90s and somehow ended up using EB hybrid slinkys. I found an old pack of boomers in a guitar case compartment i hadnt opened since 93. Somehow they were still fresh and strung up one of my guitars from the 80s. Wow, the wound strings EAD (or C# G# C# my tuning) are definitely Louder and breakthrough more than the wound EBs… (the plain steel sounded identical). There are soooooooo many fake garbage and laughable opinions on guitar products these days on the tube that I decided to do my own experiment to confirm what I was hearing. I proceeded to purchase 26 packs of these GHS boomers GBCL (which are the wound strings from a 10s set and the plain strings from a 9s set). Using 2 identical guitars (even color), Logic X via a PreSonus FireStudio input, dunlop red acrylic 1.5mm pick and as consistent as possible pick of each strings. The only difference was that each guitar had a new set of strings, one got GHS boomers GBCL and the other ErnieBall HyBrid Slinkys. I averaged the 12 picks of each string by merging the 12 waveforms into a single track for each guitar for each string, the wound strings of the GHS boomers were clearly louder, rang longer by at least 7.2, 5.9, 4.6 seconds respectively (tuned toC#, G#, C#). the Plain Steel string waveforms were virtually Identical between the sets though. If you arent sure what this tuning is, its simply DropD half a step down (aka dropC#). Plugged into a Dual Rectifier, Laney and a Vetta, on a high gain channel you get this Extra Gain that breaks through, so needless to say ill be back to using GHS boomers GBCLs on all my guitars!!!thundercab

When S.I.T. (Stay In Tune) strings first came out years ago, they came shipped straight, not coiled up. That was their thing. I tried some 9's back when I used 9's and they were better than D'Addarios which always broke. I recently tried a new coiled up set and just be warned… They went on nicely, then got really stiff before slowly breaking in. They're just like that. I've tried worse. Though the strings had a bold and confident sound they lacked the crisp, fresh voice I was expecting. I seen people was giving these strings bad reviews because after 2 weeks of playing everyday, they said strings go bad. I have NEVER had any issues with these strings, i for one say replace your strings every 2 weeks anyway ESPECIALLY if you play everyday. But owning multiple guitars sometimes it never goes that way, i have now had these on my jackson, and i put them on 5 months ago, play everyday and there still going strong, hardly any rust, definitely tell their wore out but over all BEST STRINGS on the market, great tone, great durability, never breaks, and great feel.Durbify
These are punchy and dynamic strings, with a certain warmth and colour to them. Like pure nickel strings, only the wound strings have the cobalt alloy wrap. If you like pure nickels, to get away from that grainy/dark/grey of normal iron/steel strings, but wish for something a little darker and with more outright balls than pure nickels, you will absolutely love these!4992andy
Best strings I've came across so far, I always had a bit of an issue when getting into my jam and a string snaps due to too much "passion" when playing. I've used probably every kind of stings out there and always came back to these. And not just any les paul strings, the signatures. They are extra light on the treble end for bending and thicker on the bass side for more volume. Les picked these himself and they will make any cheap guitar sound good. They are so smooth you will be amazed. Many strings I play with feel like sandpaper compared to these. And the best part is they come vacuum sealed so they have an indefinate shelf life, so stock up! Red silk stockings? Not the wrong review, stay here. These strings have a wound ball end dressed in red silk, just for show? NO they help anchor the string, they help to prevent slippage of the windings and they look fantastic. These strings are not cheap but you do get what you pay for. They sound great and have a high degree of corrosion resistance – I have never broken one. Apart from my Strats and my Tele I use these strings on all other guitars. If you have a guitar costing hundreds if not thousands of pounds why would you put cheap strings on it? They are getting very rare so buy a set now and try them.cerieds1957

If you haven't tried them since their packaging was reinvented, they're definitely worth a look now. Tried D'Addario pure nickel strings, found the wound three to be too low output. I swear the core wire looked like it belonged in acoustic strings. Maybe I got a factory defect, who knows. Gibson strings sound great initially but the 'G' starts to sound dead after a week and the wound strings sound dead and filthy in three weeks. These on the other hand sound marvelous. I have recently come back to playing the guitar, Sax is my primary instrument but I have had my Gibson RD Standard since 1978. I have since increased my heard of guitars to 10 electric guitars and 3 bass guitars. I have come to favor the Ernie Ball lights and super lights on almost all my guitars. I play the 9's on all of my Stratocaster copies and the super lights on the 3/4 size guitars. I love the feel as far as tone, intonation, flexibility ease of bends and how the strings hold up as a whole. I would definitely recommend to a friend or buy this produce again.Antonio

After watching a few videos on YouTube about string gauge, I thought I would buy the Regular Slinkys (10s) and see what difference that would make. When I got online to buy I saw that Guitar Center had a sale on 12 packs and since there is a pandemic, I thought it prudent to hoard strings. My logic was that while I may run out of TP, I would never run out of strings for my guitars. Long story short, you cannot go wrong with the tone of 10s. I do like them better than the 11s. They are much clearer in the low end and you get more definition. I have to do less EQing when recording and they just seem to pop better in a mix. The only downside is that they are taking me time to get used to, I play very heavy handed and these are much easier to bend. But I can already see that I have less hand fatigue.Richard
