This is an amazing starter kit for anyone who is starting to play an Electric Guitar! One thing I really like about this starting kit is that not only it is affordable, perfect for college students, but it also has everything that you need to start learning how to play an electric guitar. I specifically wanted to start my guitar journey on an Electric Les Paul, so this kit worked out specifically well. The quality of the accessories is also pretty good. The only complain I had was towards the tuner— it doesn’t seem to work correctly; however, that could be due to my noob skills. Anyway, there are always online apps that you can use to tune. This is my first Gibson guitar purchase. I waited over 5 months for this guitar to arrive. I've had it for a few days now and I'm trying to process how this guitar passed Gibson Quality Assurance. The guitar for the most part sounds amazing, plays pretty good, despite action being higher than I expected. However, the reason for the low rating is craftsmanship is poor, the finish on the back of the guitar is different than what's advertised, and I didn't get the case it was supposed to come with. The fretboard has glue stains all over it, which I know is something that can be cleaned up. But what's most disturbing are the dents on the fretboard and these two hole punches on the 11th fret. I don't even think Epiphones are this bad. The top looks amazing otherwise and the guitar sounds great. I've made inquiries to Musicians Friend, twice. I was promised to receive a call from someone in the Private Reserve department or a supervisor. No one has called back. So I took matters into my own hands and called Gibson. They told me to email photos and they would make an exception to cover shipping costs back to them(thank you, Gibson!). However after I emailed Gibson, I never heard anything back and I'm not sure how they're going to fix the holes on the fretboard. This doesn't seem like something that's fixable. For spending this kind of money, I expected so much better from both parties. If I wanted a used Gibson with a mismatched case, I would've bought one for much less. It's very disturbing nobody from Musicians Friend is taking this matter seriously given the amount of money I've spent on this guitar. Anyone considering purchasing any instrument from Musicians Friend, especially one that is high end, I strongly suggest shopping elsewhere. They don't stand by the products they sell. I'm still holding out hope Gibson is gonna take care of this issue and make this right. Thank you, Musicians Friend for being my "friend" and advocating for me. (sarcasm)gofarkid
Overall: In a word: ******* amazing. No matter the price, you would think a guitar sitting in a warehouse for any length of time would need a setup. Not with this Wine Red Les Paul Custom! The only caveat is it was completely out of tune (to be expected); a little "nut sauce" and it was good as gold. And that lacquer smell still haunts my house! Well worth it…Mere words are not enough to describe the sound and the power with this guitar. It blows away my 2014 Traditional (a nice guitar in its own right); it is not even a comparison. The neck is so much easier to play. Fit and finish are flawless. In closing: save your money, eat Ramen noodles for a year if you must, wear your hole-in-the-crotch jeans for as long as necessary and BUY THIS GUITAR!Jeff
I never leave reviews, after receiving this guitar and examining the beauty and perfection I had to leave one.. The fifth and finish our flawless. Everything about this guitar says perfection from the tip to the viral. It arrived perfect in the box perfectly packaged even in tune. I was pleasantly surprised with the amount of detail page in there quality control department. Yes the cost is steep at $5,000 but it is an investment. Don't think of it as a purchase think of it as a family airline that you can play for years and years and it will only increase in value. The pickups are fantastic, the neck is so perfect and the weight is spot on.

What a brilliant guitar and superb value package! I have owned ‘real’ Gibsons over the years and bought this outfit as a birthday gift for my granddaughter who is learning to play. She has had a fender acoustic for a couple of years and now wants her own electric guitar. I chose this outfit as having previously owned one in the past I like Epiphone guitars. Before giving it to her I thought it best to check it over and set it up but there was nothing to do really, after tuning this guitar was perfectly playable right out the box! The feel, balance and weight is very like my Gibson and the sound is superb. The amp is excellent and packs enough punch to put a smile on your face too. She’s delighted with the built in tuner as well as the other essentials included in the outfit. What’s not to like? I can’t find a better value package!W O.
My original review still stands, but I made cosmetic-only upgrades for less than an average couple's meal at a casual restaurant that makes this look much, much more expensive. No tuner, pickup or pot swaps. Replaced black plastic parts with cream, added cream pickguard, replaced chrome tuner knobs with Klausen-style ivory-look knobs. Installed chrome pickup covers. Replaced speed knobs with gold top-hats.Easily done to make this look like a proper Les Paul. I'm happy with the looks for the little extra money spent.Steve
As the song says: "I'm a Sucker for a Cheap Guitar". I own over 30 – some cheap, some not so cheap. This one arrived perfectly set up: low action, no buzzing, no sharp fret edges, easy to play – amazing for a guitar in this price range. Although not great, the pickups even sounded acceptable. It's heavy, which to me means good, though not as heavy as my Gibson. It's OK-looking, but needed something to enhance it – a pickguard. I added one and it looks much better – more expensive. Instead of cutting off part of the guard to accommodate the knob as I've seen some others do, I drilled a hole big enough for the nut on the body underneath the knob to fit through the guard (see photos). Since the guard isn't much thicker than the nut, it allowed the guard to fit flush with the body and the knob to turn without any restriction of motion, and the pickguard is not butchered. It's a very clean look – like it came that way – not modified. So, I am pleased with this instrument, and would recommend it to anyone for any purpose: especially beginners to play or someone like me who just collects cheap guitars to hang on the wall of their studiio.Steve

Okay, I've been using this kit for years on new guitars. I use it for general maintenance during every string change. The fretboard conditioner is not to clean the frets, it's to add a nice moisture to a dry board. It leaves it nice and soft and dark… just be sure to wipe it completely dry afterwards. Follow the directions. I use Lem Oil to clean the frets and board FIRST, then the conditioner. The metal cleaner is not for frets, it's for hardware, and it shines it up amazingly. Use it on the bridge, tailpiece, and tuners and you'll love how it makes dull hardware shine like new. Lastly, the cream polish. This isn't the best polish I've used, but nowhere near the worst either. You need 2 cloths, one to apply and one to buff/clean up. Works like a charm for shining things up smoothly. It does leave a slight residue that has to be buffed out with a clean cloth and makes the guitar body less slippery… but I like it that way. It's all preference. I particularly love the smell of the fretboard conditioner, and the dust brush comes in super handy for cleaning edges of frets, saddles, pegs, the nut slots, pickup cavities, and all of those other tricky spots. When used properly it's a great kit. People always comment on how all of my guitars always look brand new. If you're looking to buff out scratches, you may want to turn to something more heat/friction based. I've been playing guitar for about 20 years and I am using this kit on mostly newer nitro finishes. Even a Danelectro. Remember, the key here is lem oil first for cleaning (on the frets too), use 2 cloths for polishing, and do not use the metal cleaner on the frets, just the hardware… it's abrasive and will leave marks on the board if you get any on the wood. This products practically don't work. I purchased this kit to restore the shine and remove the hazy look on the finish of different parts on the guitar (not even to get scratches off) and give a better look to my now aged looking Gibson SG Standard 91. The restorative cream only made the problem even worse, after applying as instructed the final result was only good in the areas that you don't get skin contact while playing, the rest of the guitar was all hazy. I wrote to Gibson to see the correct way to apply the polish and the response was "Once you see the polish start to dry and haze up a bit, that would be time to buff" but didn't make any difference. In the end after buffing off many times the restorative cream with the Gibson Pump Polish (which I usually use to maintain the finish) made it shine again, did not get the hazy parts to look like new, but a least my guitar wasn't all opaque. As for the metal cleaner, this wont get off even small amount of rust from the washers or screws as it says, very disappointing. Maybe the only good thing you get in this kit is the fretboard conditioner (looks great after applying it, and smells good) and the pair of cloths to clean your guitar after playing. As for the little brush that comes in the kit I haven't found any use to it.Horishas
