Gibson Double Neck Guitar For Sale (2024 Update)

I owned and played one of these semi-pro for a decade back in the '80s because it was a hassle switching from 6 to 12 string guitars and always having to redial the amp for the different pickup outputs. The heavy mahogany body (and it IS heavy, especially neck-heavy, the reason for the 4 rating) produces crystalline sound with excellent articulation and sustain and the output between necks is well-balanced. The 1275 gave me the versatility and ease of switching (one switch) that I wanted and a sound I loved. My single-neck 12s have been Rics. The 1275 lacks the Ric "jangle" but that's a minor drawback. I also owned a Carvin koa doubleneck: decent 12 string half, totally useless 6 string, but it was well-balanced weight-wise. I played a BC Rich "Bich" doubleneck and the thing is an ergonomic nightmare and didn't sound nearly as good as the Gibson. I installed a belt hook on my strap for the 1275 keep the necks from falling down when I let go and it worked well. If you want a doubleneck, get the Gibson.Jerry

Great guitar. I have several gibsons, some nicer Ibanez, and some of the upper end of the epiphone guitars. This guitar worried me before it arrived if it would have a loss of sustain or if it would sound thin due to the thinner body. It doesn’t. Full sound, great pickups, stays in tune perfectly and no neck dive. I’ve played the Gibson custom shop Frampton guitar, Custom shop Bonamassa standard, several other standards etc.. To me, this is more comfortable and I prefer the pickups here to the others. My favorite guitar and I would definitely recommend to anyone. I do wish it came in more colors, I’d buy a couple more if it did.David

I tried to be a Gibson hater for so long, but this guitar really converted me. I’ve always loved the look of Les Pauls but never like the thickness or weight of them (I’ve owned an Epiphone Les Paul which gave me the general body size to expect, at least). Also having a shoulder injury which makes heavy guitars basically a no-go, this ended up being an all-encompassing package for a perfect Les Paul. The weight of mine must be in the lower 8 lb, high 7 lb range (I haven’t gotten to put it on a scale yet, but it feels similar to my guitars that weigh in at those numbers). The thin body feels amazing and doesn’t push my forearm out as much as the traditional thickness of my Epi LP. I was also expecting some neck dive issues, but I don’t experience that with this one. I’m so glad they do the slim taper neck on these as it’s got to be the perfect neck shape, in my opinion. It fills the hand wonderfully yet doesn’t cause my hand to cramp and fatigue like way thicker or way thinner necks. The guitar played pretty amazingly out of the box. I did have to do a slight truss rod adjustment, but the provided Gibson tool makes any adjustments on this guitar a breeze. The 57 Classic +/57 Classic pickups are amazing too. Just the right amount of output with tons of articulation. I needed to back the neck pickup off a tad as it was a bit louder than the bridge right out of the box. Now it’s super even in volume between the selections and it can get so many tones just with the simple 3 way and volume/tone controls. Only real gripe I have about the guitar is that the nut isn’t cut too well for the low E string. It definitely will stay in the slot, but it maybe only has about the bottom 1/3rd of the string resting in it, and it tends to be the highest action of the strings at the lower frets. The guitar still plays like butter and I’m super happy I took a shot with this one. I also don’t have any of the typical tuning woes that most Gibsons seem to be plagued with, so I know the nut is cut pretty well, for the most part. I definitely can see myself playing more Gibsons in the future now, and I’ve already been GASing for some SGs. If they all come out of the box like this, I have no issue buying more whenever the money comes around. I hope they continue with the Lite series as well, because this guitar really gives me the best of both worlds with classic looks and comfortable playability.Ryan

Picked up a 2019, same exact model about a month ago. Quality and build is superb, the carved top has even more flame than I expected. I wanted an "understated" look, and it's perfect. Flame changes with light. The nitro finish is buffed like new, unlike the VOS models, and the natural dye on the back and neck is rich and deep. Instrument is plek'd, action and intonation are flawless. The CustomBucker pickups are all the rage, you can only get them on a new instrument, and are supposed to be the best PAF repro so far. I'm still trying to decide if I like them, my ears say that the 60s have more natural midrange than 59s, but I can eq it out on my amps. They also seem to be unpotted. I'm really inspired by the sound and feel of the '60 LP, the looks and quality are just icing.Ron

Hhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhkkkkk The new Standard 60s that I received was was being waited for like a scene in a movie when parents are waiting for a stork to bless them with a bundle of joy. Well the stork for me was gruff lookin FedEx driver that was delivering my new Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s. After it was delivered I placed it gently before me and began to unwrap the newest member of the family. So, you know those movies when you expect to see elation on the face of the actor after they open something up but instead it turns to the face of horror, well, that was me. As I opened up the the lid of the case I saw bits of gold flakes and plastic. It was the volume knob that had been smashed. I then looked at the case and the bottom of the case appeared to be damaged. After pulling picking up the pieces and placing them in a bag i played the LP and it was amazing but had obviously been knocked around too much for me to keep. It was tough though, the low end on this guitar was hypnotizing and the highs were like blissful chimes that rang clean yet without shrillness. The weight is amazing and the thus the sustain is like the Energizer Bunny. Anyway, I called AMS, they offered a replacement but I wouldn't be able to choose the serial number for the replacement, so I would have no idea what it looked like; I want to choose what guitar I am buying. So now I have a prepaid return shipping label in my email and a trip to the "stork" in my future. It's very unfortunate that this guitar was not packaged better because it is an amazing sounding guitar. I am buying another one.Mike

Overall: I've had 4 other gibsons and this one is the prettiest of them all. The color, how it fades from a dark red, to bright red then amber. The flame is just right on both sides. It has nearly every different kind of flame in certain spots but consistently has horizontal flame from top to bottom. It's a killer top. It's set up well but the action does need to be lowered and some relief put on the neck but overall not bad. The slim 60s neck is very nice. Its not chunky but not thin either, its right in the sweet spot. It sounds amazing, alnico Vs are hotter than a firecracker. Now the cons- It had about a 4 inch surface scratch on the top where your right arm rests when I inspected it after opening the case. The Grover tuners are nice and keep it in tune but I wish this exact guitar was offered with Kluson deluxe tuners. I prefer the green tulip look. Then there's the graph tech nut. I wish it had a bone nut but ill take care of that later. All in all it's a keeper, for life. Thank yoy zZoundsRyan

I've had the guitar for a couple weeks now and it's been the main guitar I've played during that time and it's incredibly hard to put down. The neck is thin but not too thin. It's a good medium profile. This is also one of the lightest Les Pauls I've ever played. The guitar is extremely resonate and loud acoustically. This could just be luck of the draw finding this specific Les Paul, because I've played a few 60's standards and not all of them were like this one. This one was definitely the best one I tried of this model. I have yet to gig with it yet, but I can't wait to. I've tried it in Standard, Eb Standard, Drop D, and Drop C# and it sounded and reacted great in all four tunings with little need for adjustments. The only con I've found is occasionally the higher strings seem to choke out slightly, but that should be easily remedied with some minor adjustments, and they don't choke out enough to really hurt playability.Eric

I was on the edge about this guiitar, 59 neck on an sg, when is an sg not an sg anymore, major neck dive from thicker neck, etc. I am glad I went for it, one of the best guitars I've played, and I own a few custom shop gibsons, r7 custom, r8, r9, etc. Awesome tone, somewhat warmer than small neck sgs and super comfortable. I was very surprised that it has no neck dive to speak of. Qc is top notch, playability is awesome and looks fantastic. Would buy again in a heartbeat. Like I said WOW. If you're thinking about one don't, just do it.Walter

Yes it's a bit pricey but you should play it. Too many critiques out there and PRS comparisons. Nothing compares to Gibson tones. Looks 100% better in person and on.GibbyFan

This is great playing guitar. It looks great and sounds great the neck feels good to hand. The craftsmanship is superb I came set up right out of the box. T action was set fast though I will raise it up a taste to facitilitate the bends I make (thats personal) my preference. I don't agree with the other reviews, possable gwakers not buyers.Mikey

Wha wan waa, the PRS Schills are nose picking again trying to drive the price down or don't apreciate good workmanship. The fit and finish on this Mod Double Cut are real good the wood grain on all the wood id nicely grainedis excelent the frets are smooth and even the fretboard is tight grain metal parts ar consistant The set up was or is good except that the high E string was 1/64 to low, tisk tisk tisk Lol:) P. Smiths guitars are mass produced except for the real high end giutars.They all use CNC they all use robots to apply finish create metal parts etc. thats why everyones 4&5K guitars good guitars. Using mechanical creates and means consistancy. Yes I do like PRS gear I have PRS Sonzera amp, Its a Beheamouth, a cranking singing creation. I play at home and play, collect a few guitars that I feel are worth having and keeping. Pickguard looks perloid in the picture and solid white is what I got. Upper neck has NO pickup selection. I know because I took it apart and all 3 upper pickups are wired directly to the output!! The knob in the middle, should be a blend pot that allows one to have one, both or adjust volume between the 2 necks. What the factory did was McGeyver a regular volume pot to try to do the same thing that kinda works, but not very well. 6 string neck on the on I recieved was very unstable! If you push one way or another, you can hear it go out of tune. 12 string neck is actually a little better, but the string break angle at the nut is ridiculous and pulls at the nut. I had to glue the nut in place (should have been done at the factory) to keep the strings in their proper place. Now I know at this price point for this type of guitar, you might have to put some work in, but some basic stuff should be ok from the jump and quality control sucks. I am a tinkerer and 40 year guitar player. So I know some things and know how to fix stuff. Good Luck if you get one of these that is playable out the box!!Rodd

This is one of the better double neck guitar as Ive bought for that price point, if not the best. Plays great and the neck is straight and true. I highly suggest it if youre in the market for a double neck guitar.timhi1572

The reason for four stars instead of 5 is because of the lack of having a fully accessible 2 octave reach to those upper frets, and particularly on the "lead" neck. (Epi really needs to fix that — just stretch that neck out there another 3-4 inches on the new model.) Otherwise … I've had this guitar about 4 years now (the white one). Everything except those upper frets are stellar — but that is a critical concern when reaching for certain leads. I do a one-man-band thing. About 1/3 of the night I'm needing the 12 string on rhythm parts, and about 2/3 of those songs require jumping to the 6 string for the lead parts. This one guitar has REALLY honed my playing skills. The material ranges the spectrum of genres (Bob Dylan to AC/DC to Styx to BOC & everything in between.) I played rhythm & sang behind dynamite lead players over the years, and never developed my own lead skills till starting the OMB thing, and having this doubleneck in particular. WOW. I'm a different guitarist (and singer) at this point. I knew that by using backing tracks, singing (even harmonies with a splitter), and doing such a range of styles (and often two guitar parts) would require either a '5 song per night' acoustic or a double neck for more flexibility. The 12 string aspect fills in things perfectly when you are the only guitar on stage. It's great for many of the "clean" songs on the list. I went with Epi over the Gibson for budget and an obvious "fear factor." (I can't imagine taking a $5k guitar into the average bar or coffee house to get stolen or banged up.) After years of playing it, I really doubt there is 10 cents difference in quality, which really surprized me. This is not the 'generic equivalent' of the Gibson. It is a precision instrument, right down to the feel of the frets (and I own and have played primarily Gibson all my life — a V-2, a standard V, a LP custom, a LP studio, and an SG). The 6 neck feels just like an SG — fast and tight. The 12 is just as great under my smaller fingers — yet another surprize. With a padded strap, it is tolerable through an entire set, and I only weigh 'a buck thirty-five soaking wet.' Many 2 neckers are back breakers. It's heavy — but not quite as bad as some of the guitar-shaped concrete blocks I have tried out. Also, I had to make my own customized stand for on stage. Pick up a standard one, get some angle iron and a pair of the wall mount guitar hangers, drill and tap the angle iron, mount the hangers adjusted to the neck spacing, then mount that bar to the head of the stand. Seemed the best option at the time, and it works. For sound, the original rig is/was a Digitech multi-effect unit on the floor into a 100w Marshall. The Digitech is a bit light on acoustic modeling, so I am about to make a change. By putting a dual 1/4" adapter on the existing output, I can split things into two chains. For the 12 string neck, I'll have that route into a more robust acoustic modeling floor FX unit (like the Boss AD-8), then into a Marshall AS100D acoustic amp. When I flip the switch to the lead neck, that will go to the existing rig (love the available options on the Digitech for that). So I'll be able to go from the bright rhythm parts of "Take it on the run" (REO Speedwagon) to the crunch leads, and back. There might be a bit more footwork involved, but with an OMB situation, I'm beyond noticing how much I play with gadgets under my feet. The point in having a 2 necker is flexibility. If that's what you want, and can live either without the upper few frets — or have longer fingers than I, then THIS is the guitar you probably want. (For the other 2/3 of the night, when I am on harder-edge material and absolutely require the end of the 2nd octave, I grab either my V or Strat. Either goes into the lead side of my FX chain, and that's that.) I strongly recommend looking at amplification as a first concern. If you can have two amps on stage — one for really tweaked-out 12 string dynamics and even acoustic modeling, and another for the hot side of the 6 string — DO IT that way. Just plan on it. You won't regret it. The heat of those lead pickups will have you crazy trying to balance one neck against the other on the volumes. Fact is, the lead neck on this guitar has the HOTTEST pickups of my entire collection (im guessing about a +15db boost). Period. It screams, and just loves the hard rock/metal. Without missing a beat, the quality of the 12 string side is absolutely higher than any acoustic I've ever owned. With modern FX units, and any skill at all — well, if I had to downsize to only one axe, this would be the one I'd keep. No doubt about it.Aaron-4M-5X

Alpine White is back! If you wanted one of these in something other than Heritage Cherry nows the time to buy one. Overall this is a well made Gibson EDS style double neck. With better pickup selection choices vs the Gibson. Three switches are better than two. I've got a Norlin era EDS 1275 ala Felder. And this compares favorably. Slightly lighter and seems more resonant. The resonence may be due to to the revised Page spec tail peice location. while it's personal preference I much prefer the ProBucker 2-3 over the Alnico Classic Pro pickups this ships with. Having a pair for some added punch on at least the 6 string side would be nice. Wheather your playing originals or covers, live or in the studio this is a fabulous way to add some 12 string girth, chime and jangle to your sound. If your doing covers in a band having one of these opens up a whole bunch of material. And playing it on a double neck is twice as much fun. I own this And a Gibson EDS. I highly recommend the Epiphone version. At the price point it's hard to beat and if you like the sound of a electric 12 string they are fun to play and add the sonic charactor only a 12 string brings.Scott from Cleveland

It seems every Epiphone guitar I've owned always has a few bugs to be worked out. However once they're fixed they're very nice guitars to play. This double neck was no exception as the 12 string neck cut out on me due to some wiring issues. Musicisnsfriend was very cool about the issue and sent me a replacement that's had no major issues so far. Given it's size you would think I guitar like this would be difficult to play both awkward and heavy. However I was pleasently surprised how comfortable the guitar felt. The guitar is actually a bit lighter than my Les Paul. Both necks are easy to access. Switching back and forth takes a bit of practice if your new to owning a double neck. This guitar features a three way switch to switch between the 12, the 6 or both at the same time. I find having both necks lowers the output of the pickups a bit. I prefer to switch between one or the other personally I seldom use them at the same time. In addition to the three between the necks, each neck gets it's own 3 way tone. There are two volume and two tone knobs that control both necks as well. As states earlier the necks are very nice to play. I find the action very comparible to a Les Paul. The pickups are very well balanced providing enough output for great lead from a good crunch up to a high gain metal. But the pickups aren't too hot to give it very clean tone when needed as well. As with the neck the tone also is very comparible to that of a Les Paul. I've not played many 12 string guitars prior to buying this one, so it's difficult to compare the top neck to another. It plays very nice. The action was just right out of the box with no setup needed. The only minor complaint I would make with this guitar is the access to the higher notes on 19th fret and on. Each neck only features a 20 fret neck which limits you a bit if you play lead using higher notes. The sg body doesn't have as deeper of a cut away body as some guitars so access to the 19th and 20th fret can be hardZack

I have been playing for 50 years, and have played many electric guitars, some very expensive. This guitar is an amazing value,and plays better than some of the More expensive. The pickup is adequate, and with better strings it frets well. Blow the speaker out on that little amp, after all it's basically free. plug in to a good amp and you can make it sound surprisingly good For 80 bucks, just do it!Dano

Basically, it's a good guitar. I recommend to newbies and intermediate player. The head, neck and body are good. The finish is smooth just like mirror. The amp is good working as well as pick-up. Only one thing that i had been noticed are those fret-wires sharp-edge or burrs (top & bottom). I used small pile with lightly stokes to create chamfer at the edge, it takes me a couple of minutes to do that. It's fun to play this guitar.cyriescoba-0

It's no wonder Gibson is having financial difficulties, this guitar is a prime example of why. Purchased and delivered for around $75? Are you kidding me? Delivered? Gibson's main line guitars are priced beyond value these days. The other line they own, Epiphone, now makes some higher end guitars considered Gibson's near equal, while they are practically paying me to buy this. Subtract the costs of final delivery to my door, shipping from China to US, the extras like the flimsy gig bag, strings, DVD and the adorable amp(with KICKSTAND), they probably have about $30 in this guitar as it leaves the factory. Considering that, there is no better guitar made anywhere than this beautiful but awful guitar. Beautiful finish, solid feel and… well it is pretty. After a couple hours of filing away at frets that were sharp enough to cut skin on the edges and as level as a gently rolling MOUNTAIN RANGE, a restring with better strings, setting the action, tightening tuners and bridges and trying with almost no success to intonate it, I have a guitar that plays way outside it's price range. I'd say it plays more like a $100 guitar than the $30 guitar that Gibson sent. Sadly some may stumble upon this guitar kit as a starter, a way to learn guitar. In that respect, I hope it doesn'tstymie and stifle young potential talent who may not realize that the guitar can be improved upon, as the way it came out of the box would likely do. It sounded horrible, with good reason. Loose tuning pegs and bridges not being snugged along with crappy strings and a downright dangerous fretboard will do that. On the other hand, now it looks pretty AND sounds pretty… well OK, prettier. It's not a Gibson, it's not even an Epiphone, it's a Maestro. the neck wasn't leveled the frets were sharp on the edges, the six string neck set up higher than the 12. the electronics were cheap and micro-phonic. either neck didn't seem to have a finish on them. even as a beginning guitar it wouldn't be good without a lot of work.harrisonguitars08

This guitar is very nice in appearance but the playability is a bit lacking. The tuning keys on the 12 string were stiff and binding. The volume knob for the 12 string had a wiring problem. when I would turn the volume up,(10) for the 12 string the 6 string volume would be down quite a bit. So when I switched to the 6 string I had to put the volume knob on 8 for the 12 string to get full volume for the 6. I keep all my volume knobs on 10 and adjust my overall volume from the amp. There's supposed to be separate volume knobs for this guitar but like I said there was some kinda wiring glitch. Other then this it was very nice and the sound was exceptional.merw.tom

When I opened up the package, it was well packed but the top neck was not secured to the rest of the guitar so I have to contact them and find out how to get it fixed or fix itWayne
