Great tone, amazing sound, louder than expected, great quality, while being extremely portable! I am 44 years old, and wanted something easier to pack around. I play in two different bands. In one we play bluegrass, with a lot of outdoor fairs and festivals. The other is a gospel group at churches with anywhere from 50-200 people. For bigger churches, I plug into the PA system, but this amp has outperformed and completely exceeded my expectations. I have the MB112 circa 2011, which is exactly the same except mines got the silver metal grille, which I prefer for protection over the cloth front (although I sure like the look of the black grille cloth). Anyway… this amp is the living end. I've gone from shlepping a 68 lb. Kustom KBA100x around (great amp by the way) to this 200 watt 30 lb. dynamo. Where the Kustom has more EQ options and built-in effects (which aren't half bad used in moderation), the GK MB112 has less than half the weight, twice the power and that unmistakable GK tone. I recently played an outside gig with it, and at a little less than 3/4 volume it kept up with the rest of the band playing to around 150 people without going through the PA. Could have gone through the PA with the XLR out on the GK, but didn't need it. Just a few years ago this type of performance was unheard of in this weight class. Plenty of power, great tone and very gig friendly. No more trying to carry heavy bass amps in the dark at 2 AM!
This amp is amazing. I was looking for a lightweight powerhouse, and this it. Definitely loud enough for rehearsals and small to medium gigs. Large gigs need a PA system anyway – I'm glad the days of spine-crunching bass amps just to be heard are behind me. The tones I can dial in with this amp are heaven – clear – and organic sounding (so many bass amps just sound blah and artificial). This amp sounds like an extension of your bass. Bought this for small acoustic and/or electric gigs. I was kind of worried that it wouldn't cover the sound of a drum kit ( at 200 watts) but it does fine for small/medium rooms. Sound is very, shall we say, adjustable, seems to have a good range. I have a mulit- effect pedal and I was very impressed with the way the patches seem to sound through this. I have a GK MB 115 200 watt 1st. gen. and love it.I needed more power for outdoor gigs and was going to get the MB 212 500 watt combo,but if I wanted to add an extension cab it would only take a powered one.The Fusion allows me to add any of my bass cabs. With 800 watts, no issues with volume (I've never had it past 1/4 on the master volume),and it can go to the mains via the DI out. It has great features for that purpose as well. Dialing in my tone is easy as I just set everything @ 12:00 (except master volume) and EQ from my bass.It took a bit of toying with the various boosts and overdrive as the push knobs really add punch to each setting.The foot switchable overdrive is cool as you can add dynamics way easy. The 212's are perfect. Tight and punchy with the low B as well.The 3 tube pre amp adds warmth to the over all tone as well. At 41 lbs it is all I need. Great amp! GK nailed it!homebrewbrewer

This is a remarkable little amplifier. The positive reviews are all justified. Very diminutive, even senior management, who tends to frown when black boxes arrive, approves. And it produces a variety of great tones in remarkable amounts bearing in mind its small size. I use it for practice. Although it has a bass setting you can program via the phone kit, the speaker is not as good as a basic bass amp like a fender rumble. The default presets sound the best, and if you need a different sound, it's probably best to use pedals on the clean setting. The effects aren't as good as I hoped for. The chorus effect is nice; but delay, reverb, and spring could be loads better. It gets the job done and I wasn't needing the other effects to be there at all so a good purchase for me, but if you need all the features to be awesome, look elsewhere.Waukegan

Recently bought this thing after saving up for months. I pretty much ripped it out of the box, plugged it in, powered it on, went through the very quick and simple setup process, and in minutes it was ready for use. I’ve now had it for a few days and already it has made my life a ton easier. Being a musician that goes on the road a lot, carrying around an amp can be a huge hassle. The Kemper eliminates that hassle, while also maintaining an amazing tone. A few things to keep in mind, though:
1. It doesn’t create an EXACT carbon copy of your amp, but it comes EXTREMELY close, so close in fact that I, having played guitar for around 7 years, can barely tell the difference, and the very microscopic differences there are, are nothing that can’t be ironed out with small tweaking to the EQ, specifically the high end
2. The volume may vary depending on how the venue has their sound system set up, so that’s something to be mindful of. You may switch on and blow eardrums at some places, or you may switch on and barely hear anything in other places, so be mindful of that.
3. You will have an amazing tone, so just be mindful of that as well. Even the stock profiles sound great, but the Kemper is taken to a whole new level once you start using your own profiles, as well as commercially sold profiles, such as the ones from Tone Junkie.
The built in Performance mode also allows for a seamless switch between up to five different rigs at the click of a button, which would be impossible to do using only analog gear.
The Kemper can be a pretty big learning curve, though, especially for people like me, who have used analog gear for years, and were even leery of making the switch to digital at first. But after the initial learning curve and getting familiar with it, I promise you will be glad you made the switch.Brandon Johnson
I bought the 600w version after a ton of research and inner debate. I had solid state rack stuff in the early 90's and hated it. It always had something missing from the tone, it seemed shallow and fake. I turned into a die hard tube guy after that. I pledged never to buy any computer amp ever again. I dismissed the Kemper at first. But once I saw some videos and heard some profiles, I was a little interested. I couldn't get past buying a computer and having 1000's of tones at the turn of a knob. Once I heard it live, thru a cabinet in a rehearsal space, I was floored and very surprised. My friend went from a 68 Marshall to a 6505 to a Fender Twin Reverb with a turn of a knob in seconds. I've owned very expensive tube amps with very distinct tone signatures I thought could not be replicated. I was 100% wrong. I profiled my Engl head and did a blind test to see if I could tell the difference in tone once I shaped it up. I honestly couIdn't tell the difference. When I guessed, I picked the Kemper 4 out of 5 times. I went to the rig exchange and found a profile that was reasonably close to a 59 plexi. I tweaked it for 10 minutes. Within that 10 minutes, I saved thousands on a new tube amp. The Kemper is a perfect fit for the skeptic. There's a million forums and tutorials out there so you'll never feel lost. Once you learn the menus and how to dial in a tone or profile an amp, you're hooked. This is the most versitle amp I've ever owned. I am completely satisified.Rob
Like the title says, you can find 1000's of these for sale used and there's good reason for that. It doesn't sound like tube at all. I think it's good for the studio where I've used one. But live? If you're fine with a solid state head, then fine. The modeling really isn't any better than higher end Line 6 modeling. This past labor day, Great White was playing a festival near by. They had a total of 8 Marshall 4×12's on stage with 4 DSL 100 heads. Not one of them was powered on. So I looked around for what they were going to use, I saw 2 Kemper Profiler heads. 1 for each guitarist. The sound was absolutely terrible. Neither amp sounded anything close to a Marshall or like tube for that matter. You could hear the cab emulation a mile away. At this price point go another direction. I've owned this amp for a few years. With the clean channel engaged, it sounds great with pedals (mxr super comp into boss od) and gets surprisingly loud for a small apartment. I dont think it would be loud enough for most band practice settings as far as volume. The biggest gripe I have with it is that it defaults to the distortion channel, which is useless for any application. Muddy, buzzy, no low end, no smoothness… just rigid cold distortion that muddied your notes even with the gain at the lowest settings. It's in fact the worst distortion I've ever used. Whenever I turn it on, I immediately switch the channel to clean.Alan

Overall I simply can not find fault with this product. As a profession musician paying my bills with my bass, it's really hard to find fault in a fully functional, beautifully made, and super light-weight amp, which comfortably sits in my backpack. I use a 8 ohm Hartke XL series 2×10 and run a Source Audio BEF, Snarling Dog Bootzilla Wah and a Digitech Jamman (through effects loop) with phenom sound and tone. The "Deep" and "Presence" filters are exceptional additions to the GK's tone shaping super-powers. Additionally using the included pedal to swap between channels it is easy to dial in a overdriven tube tone in channel B and swap on the fly for solo moments or stand out moments. Two Channels, included quality footswitch (and cable), tones of tone sculpting ability, a clear and well written owners manual, intuitive design, and four pounds! Amazing. The features are better than advertised. I have never owned anything from GK before and this is an outstanding introduction to their product line, however, since the product comes prepared for rack mount system and at this price it seems like a rack mounting system should have been included. A local music shop told me NOT to rack mount the system as the tubes heat will become an issue…but then that begs the question of why does it come prepared for a rack system? Just based on size, portablility, and most importantly TONE this bass amp is simply unbelievable. I regret waiting this long to get a light weight amp. I can't believe I lugged around a 45lbs box for the last 5 years when I didn't need to! I feel like at the price this is a bit pricey and definitely made me think a while before dropping the coin, however, now that I own it I am kicking myself for waiting!
I would recommend the amp, but I still need to see how well it holds up over time. Nice features, but I can't give it a 10 because it doesn't have a clip light or a limiter/compression feature. I've only used it once so far, but it sounded great and it held up fine for a 4 hour gig. Bought it as a back up for my Mesa Boogie M-Pulse 600. Fair price for what you get.
I pair this with a new GK 212-II NEO cab rated at 600 watts at 8 ohm. This head at 8 ohm puts out 350 watts. I can always add a second cab to get the full 500 watts. I set channel A gain around 9 o'clock and the master around noon. Then set channel B gain around 3 o'clock and the master around 11 o'clock. That creates a super clean sound in channel A and a warm fudgy tubey sound in channel B. Headphone out for practice. Pre/post DI out. EFX in/out. Footswitch for channel changing. Limiter off/on. Deep bass off/on, bright treble off/on. You can set scoop mid-point at either 300 Hz or 800 Hz on the contour. Less than 5 lbs. If you own or plan to get one of the GK powered cabs, you can plug it directly into this head. If you pair one with the GK212-II NEO you cannot use the bi-amp feature built into the cab. So be sure to get the correct speakon connecting cable. If you purchased the NEO cab new you CAN use the speakon connecting cable that comes with that speaker. You can also use an old style 1/4 inch cable. The footswitch comes with a long cable – maybe 6-8 feet? I don't have a ruler so I'm guessing. You can practice with headphones (use the 1/4 inch plug) without having any speakers connected, which makes practice when traveling easy. This will fit into my gig bag but I will probably purchase a fitted bag made for it to protect it. Other than that this is a keeper and easy to learn and use.Florida basement dude

I was looking to replace my GK 800RB. The 800RB is working fine. It has been for a long, long time. I'm a working musician & it gets hauled around all the the time. I just began to want the addition of some 'modern' features. Speakon connectors, tuner out….I wanted a ground lift on the DI (which the 800RB & the MB800series does not have!!). I wasn't prepared to lose the sound of the 800RB. I've grown quite found of that sound & during my search, I wasn't able to come close to that GK punch with anything else (even other GK amps!). I found this amp used on eBay & got it at a decent price. I took it to a gig that night, with my 800RB in tow, just in case it the MB500 failed to deliver. It did not. In fact, it may sound even better than the 800RB. I has the same punch but also has more low end. On top of that, it weighs LESS THAN 5 LBS!!!!! I'm a happy guy & I believe anyone looking for the sound of an 800RB will be happy as well.dtwade0
To be honest it is early days with this amp. However, I played through it for a few hours the day it arrived and it has great features for sure. It is very loud meaning in the home you will probably need to use the pad to allow you to enjoy the tones on offer without shaking your place apart. Everything just works about this amp. I bought this amp in 2019 and I also bought the 112 chain cabinet. I rarely bring the extra cabinet out. This little monster can handle a wide range of venues. The sound of this amp is amazing. I love the look on people's faces when I show up with this tiny thing, but after the first song they get it. Anyway, I put mine through it's paces and it consistently gets the job done. You won't be disappointed.

Wonderful little amp. No frills….just what's needed to put a smile on your face. Running it into a 410 and a 118 Ampeg cab, for the 4 ohm power advantage. Not bad into 8 ohms, but 4 really brings it to life. It rocks the house with a low D into that 18 cab. Perfect for a lightweight backup amp and plenty of power for small to medium gigs. The contour switch is a gem. A mute button would be nice, but this thing is tiny and I wouldn't sacrifice any of the other controls. Get one, you'll love it!gmajor99
Small, lightweight, portable, and enough volume for almost any situation. I bought this a few weeks ago to replace a 1×12 combo and cannot believe how great this sounds! I have it paired with a lightweight 2×10 cabinet, and this is plenty loud to keep up with my band, and I only turn the gain knob about 1/2 way. The MB200 is so easy to use, anybody can get a good bass tone using it. Has a great 4 band EQ and contour switch for more tone shaping options. The only negative I would say is there is no effects loop, but it is not an issue for me at all. This is the perfect head for someone playing gigs in small to medium sized clubs/venues, or for home practice/recording.
