Hi I ordered the guitar and was told about the long delay and found that really honest and helpful, so many people nowadays don't mention the delay in advance then spend their time making excuses. When I reicieved the guitar I was very impressed, the action is perfect and I had spent lots of time worrying that I may find the action on a 12 string too much. It plays just as well as my six string acoustic and that's the best acoustic I've ever played, which is why I bought it. This was my 1st purchase from Richard and I am pretty sure it won’t be my last, whilst I am very much a beginner at guitar, returning after 20 years I have developed a habit for buying guitars that are somewhat inspirational to me, (well apart from my tele modern player, not my wisest purchase). I have always loved the sound of a 12 string acoustic, but was put off by the general implication they are not a good idea for beginners, however I came across a couple of YouTube reviews for the Godin A12, which suggested otherwise, one of which was Richards. I spoke with Richard fairly late one evening to enquire about stock via his live chat and he was still online which was surprising. The guitar was in stock and the order placed, each step of the process from order thru to workshop allocation, setup, testing and finally dispatch, were updated via email and on the website, the whole process took 10 days from ordering to my door step. Initial impressions were good, the guitar in its gig bag was very well packaged and arrived in perfect condition, after a quick tune up, the sound was amazing, the action is nice and low and it is considerably easier to play than I was expecting, in fact it only highlights how poor the initial setup on my tele was. Personally I have a long way to go but I definitely have an instrument that inspires me to pick it up anytime I have a few minutes to spare. If you are ever in need of a guitar and Richard stocks it then I would highly recommend Richard over some other online providers, you may not get it next day, but the wait is very much worth it. I received my Godin A6 a couple of weeks ago and I must say I am very impressed, not only with the guitar, but also the service from Richards Guitars. It arrived very well packed and ahead of the projected time. It's a little early to give a practical review of the guitar but suffice to say it's looking very promising, and will probably replace my Martin 000-28 for a lot of my gigs, especially when I'm playing in the full band. These tend to be longer than my solo gigs and a tad more frantic. One of the reasons I went for the A6 is because I have a bit of rheumatism in my thumbs and the narrower neck on the A6 helps a lot without sacrificing an acoustic guitar feel and sound. At the moment I'm experimenting with different strings. The guitar came with nickel wound but I thought I'd try some phosphor bronze which is more in keeping with my acoustics. The Jury is still out! I can certainly recommend Richards Guitars, their attention to detail and concerns over customer satisfaction are excellent.Brad B.

I had bought a Fender Acoustic 100 amp from here over a week or so ago which I love. The only problem was ,it doesn't work well with passive pickups as far as volume levels are concerned. I've been using a Taylor BBT along with a Duncan Woody SC which sounded great but just was not projecting the volume I needed . So I ended up going to a reputable dealer and ended up doing a cash/trade deal for one of these in the Natural finish just today. It is exactly what I have been looking for since I got my amp and it thanks to the Fishman Presys pickup, sounds great and projects the volume I needed and more in spades. I find that the tone on this one also projects more compared to the Mahogany model which I had for a while as well. I'm a happy camper and now have a rig that sounds really amazing that I can use with my solo Acoustic act.JeffO46
I just purchased this for my sister for Christmas as she tried to run away with a lot of my personal guitars. I was looking for a basic guitar but not too basic so that it wouldn't become boring too fast as she began advancing. This guitar is far from basic. In person, this is a fantastic looking guitar. I picked it up and fell in love, and I have never been too partial to Fender (however this is the first time I picked up a Fender acoustic). Pictures don't do it justice. Wanted to try a double coursed instrument for lead playing. So I bought one of these open box and took off the octave strings leaving only the B and high E doubled. Tonally it's as fine as any mid range Martin I've handled, not as funky, purer sounding with better sustain than my myrtlewood Breedlove, Better made than, but reminds me of my rebuilt Yamaha 180 in character: it will grow mellow with age and only increase in value. Ok so it's Chinese made, but this is why it does not cost 1500. The build quality is good, the setup out of the box was great. Low action and easy to play, even accounting for wider than standard 6 string neck. ( And I don't have long fingers) The electrics work great and the hidden nature of controls is cool, if you don't want a big hole cut in the side of your guitar. Solid woods throughout, with great finish. Weakest point is the tuners, but it holds tune well for a 12 string, which in itself is unheard of!jacol-431
I've wanted a Guild 12-string since college, over over 40 years ago. Back then I had a Lyle Hummingbird clone 12-string, which sounded okay (laminated body, spruce top, Japanese manufacture.) Before I left college I also bought a Guild G-37, blonde, arch back 6-string. I still have both guitars. I loved the sweet, well balanced tone of the G-37, but could never afford one of their 12-strings to mate up with it. Fast forward to now – haven't played any of my guitars in several years, and wanted to get back into it. With the Westerly Collection, a 12 string was now affordable, and all the reviews and videos convinced me that this was the time! My new F2512E Deluxe arrived the other day, and it's stunning! Flawless finish, precision inlays, and oh that tone! Just like the tone of some of my favorite artists from the folk era, like John Denver. Can't wait to try Rocky Mountain High on this baby, but I'll also be learning or relearning some more contemporary tunes as well. Thanks Guild for making an affordable but terrific sounding 12!Mike
Bought this guitar to add to my acoustic collection. For this price my exoectations were low as I own a Martin, Gibson, Ovation Elite and Yamaha Transacoustic all which cost considerbly more so I was abslutely blown away by this guitar. It came perfectly setup out of the box with nice low action-no adjustment needed. The glossy sunburst finish over the flamed maple back and sides is absolutely beautiful-the top and is matched spruce and the back is matched flamed maple. Beautiful shimmery sound and the pickup sounds great plugged into my deluxe reverb amp. The satin neck finish is smooth and the frets are smooth and polished. The quality of this guitar is outstanding-I could not find a flaw in its material or construction anywhere. Nice bright maple jumbo guitar that I am glad I purchased. Don't let the price point and the made in China sticker scare you away-this guitar holds its own against my Martin HD-35, Gibson hummingbird and my other acoustic guitars. I bought a gator jumbo case to keep it safe and the ase fits nicely.DWB

Bought the guitar on line through Guitar Center; Guitar Center is great. Out of the box, the guitar was playable but when being set up by my guitar tech, he discovered the fretboard was bowed at the connection point between the neck and the body. Ovation covered the repair under warranty. After being set up, the guitar plays great. Now I have a problem with the on board electronics and it is back to the shop for more warranty repairs. The guitar otherwise sounds and looks great. I was dissapointed that the guitar was made in Korea rather than the U.S. You get what you pay for. I own two other Ovation guitars and am very pleased with the sound and playability of all three guitars.
I rated this guitar a 1, if a Zero would have been a choice I would have given it a Zero. I absolutely hated this Guitar. I don't know if it just wasn't set up right or that's just the way Ovation sends out their Guitars. The string action on the middle to high end was just terrible, strings were so far off the fret board it was just miserable to play. If you don't mind playing the Guitar on the the first 3 frets you might be in business. For what Ovation charges for this piece of junk you think you would get a better playing guitar. What really sets me off is it ships in a cardboard box, no case. I hope Ovation sees this review and streightens up their act, in this competive world there a lot of other decent guitars for the same money, Ovation must be really trying to cut cost. I wish them well and hope they open their eyes. Bottom line, don;t waste your money. I woiuld never buy another Ovation agaiin. As if you didn't know, I did return the Guitar and hopefully will receive a refund.
I sold my old 1991 12 string Ovation custom legend and bought this guitar. I had GC take the two shims out of the bridge and the action is great; and the sound is great. A little loud compared to other guitars which is not a problem for me. This guitar sits on your stomach better than the old ovations; the back also provides access to the inside of the guitar. My 1991 Ovation was made in the USA and this one is made in Korea but has great craftsmanship. The Inlays on the neck are smaller and harder to see than my older model; I do miss that. This one sounds just as good or better than the USA made custome legend. This guitar is really beautiful to look at as well. I hope this helps. I am considering buying the 6 string 2778Ax too because I gave my 1994 6 string Ovation legend to my brother which plays excellently too. Note: Ovation backs will not expand and contract with the weather so I suggest you keep the guitar in the case when not in use with a humidifier as needed. Try them all and decide. Having relatively recently started learning guitar on an electric stratocaster-style guitar this was a great transition to the acoustic segment. The thinner body makes it much more comfortable to play than say a dreadnought and the neck is comfortable to transition too, yet the guitar doesn't seem to sacrifice as much sound as you'd expect from a thinner guitar. The finish of the guitar is that of a more expensive guitar for example the rosewood finger board. On arrival I actually thought the guitar looked better than the pictures on the website suggest but do note that because of the finish it is prone to showing finger marks which would need cleaning time to time. After suffering a permanent back injury I could no longer play my elictric guitar as it was too heavy or my acoustic electric guitar because it felt like it was twice it's normal size because I could no longer find a comfortable position for myself to play it. The only thing I'm not entirely happy with is the action. It's just a little too high. Other than that, I love it. It's a very nice looking acoustic for the money. It stays in tune extremely well and I was shocked at how full the sound was even with such a thin body. Sounds even better plugged in. The thinner body is super comfortable to handle and hold. It makes the transition from electric to acoustic very easy. The built in tuner is one of my favorite features. It works great and seems to be as accurate as any other tuner I've ever used. Overall, I would recommend this acoustic to anyone on a budget looking for a great sounding and feeling acoustic who doesn't mind the action a little on the higher side. (Side Note – I might be too critical on the action since I'm used to my electrics set up for such low action.)

I have owned a number of high-end 12 Strings. This Fender can hang with them and some Twice as expensive and more! It was perfectly set-up right out of the box. Great action and play-ability.I am still Impressed with this guitar especially at it's price point. The strings it came strung with were not for me. It is The one thing that I changed and it just made the sound POP, the voice INCREDIBLE and made the guitar even more impressive. The strings I used are the Martin Retro Monel Custom Lights. It opened a whole new sound for this guitar. I have owned this now over 4 months and am still awed. For a twelve string it holds its Tuning even when I am wailing and using my Dunlop Brass slide. You really cannot go wrong with this well built and great sounding Guitar! Don't wait if your looking, pull the trigger and BUY IT NOW! Things I like: -Noiseless pickups sound pretty close to regular single coils but without the annoying hum. They may not sound 100% as glassy as my Tele single coils, but if we're honest, very few people will notice the difference and the trade-off for quiet pickups is well worth it. -One volume and one master tone is user friendly like a Telecaster -Comfortable body and neck -Rotary switch adds a nice boost to get closer to Tele or p90 when needed Comments: -First time I tried out the rotary switch I thought it was kinda of dumb, but after setting it up, I think it is most valuable to add some thickness when the thinner Strat sounds needs a bit more. I like it now but still think the lower settings aren't truly necessary. Makes the neck pickup more suitable for jazz and gets the bridge close to a Tele. -After received, we tweaked it but adjusting the truss rod, filing the nut a bit for a couple strings, raising the pickups to the Fender specs (3.2mm), adjusting the rotary switch so when you turned it the knob would stop and not just keep spinning when you got to the end of the options. -Make sure you unplug the guitar from the amp or the battery will run down very quickly -Never owned a Pau Ferro fretboard before but it's very close to Rosewood. If you're on the fence, I wouldn't let it put you off. In the end, we've got a very usable, comfortable, versatile Strat that sounds great! If you are looking for a Stratocaster that can do Strat tones and can get close to Tele or even Les Paul (maybe a bit far on the Les Paul but again, close is the operative word–there is no ONE guitar) when needed, all with noise-free pickups, then this is a great choice.Steve

I love the look of figured ash. I realize it can sometimes be sort of gaudy and over-the-top. That said, I loved the first guitar I received after I placed my order. It had lots of the swirls and 'bubbles' I expect from this wood. I previously owned a 6 string Ibanez with figured ash, a little darker in hue, and had always loved its appearance. But the onboard tuner of the first guitar I received did not work. By the way, the tuner should work without the guitar being hooked up to an amplifier. When I contacted Ibanez, they e-mailed me back that some of their acoustic-electric guitars have tuners that only work when plugged into an amplifier – this completes the circuit. I could not get a straight answer as to whether that was true for this particular guitar. I wanted to keep the guitar, as I've said I liked the look of it, so I contacted the local authorized repair facility to look into having it repaired under warranty. They told me that they have trouble getting parts from Ibanez and that it would be best for me to send the guitar in and exchange it. I contacted Musicians Friend and they e-mailed me a return label. The replacement guitar I received is not as 'showy' as the one I returned. The wood grain looks more like typical wood grain, no 'bubbles' or swirls on the top or back although there is some of that on the sides. It's probably for the best, as I said this wood can sometimes look a little gaudy. But for now I am a little disappointed in the appearance. That is the trouble with ordering online, but no stores seem to have this guitar in stock. Anyway, the tuner on this one works fine and the sound is very good. Some people have complained that it's a little quiet – sounds plenty loud to me, but then I don't play in public, just at home. For the price, you can't beat this guitar. The first one of these I ordered had bad frets and had to be sent back. After waiting four months, I finally received the replacement since these were on back order for quite a while. The second guitar came with a terrible setup. The strings were literally laying on the frets since the truss rod was over tightened. Also, the strings that came on the guitar were noticeably played and worn, which was strange. After adjusting the truss rod and putting fresh strings on the guitar, it sounds and plays great! The fret edges are a bit sharp, but I don't mind too much considering the price of the instrument. Overall this is a great guitar for a great price, especially on sale, just factor in the cost of a setup if you're not handy with setting up a truss rod on your own.Kevin
I bought this guitar based on hearing similar Ibanez acoustics, and the 35 reviews that seem overwhelmingly positive. The guitars construction is very nice, and it's a unique looking acoustic. Craftsmanship appears to be solid. When I unpacked it, all was well. However, I was a bit disappointed in the sound once I tuned up. I thought the sound was thin, and not as loud as a similarly priced Breedlove 6 string I purchased a few years ago. I'm going to try different strings, and the high G popped within a couple of days of purchased. The guitar sounds great plugged into an amp, and has an on board tuner and EQ. No case. Overall a good guitar for the price, but I would prefer something with a warmer sound. I'm hoping strings other than D'Addario, and some aging make this guitar sound better.rollinover

I've played a fair amount of guitar – and guitars – over 30 years, but never a twelve string. Narrowed my choice (there are a few but not a ton of choices in this price range) to this Martin and Taylor's 150e. The Martin neck just accommodated my uncertain left hand a little better. Laminate sides, so yes, there are some tonal sacrifices a more sophisticated listener than I would recognize. But if you are dipping your toes in the 12 string pool for the first time, I highly recommend this Martin. Well built, easy to play and not a budget buster!msh6691
You won't find better action on a twelve string. Nice combination of woods. Great sound and playability. Sounds good plugged in, miked up and with no electronics. Went shopping for high end Martins, couldn't find one that sounded or played well, saw this gave it a try and immediately said this is it. Great affordable 12 string from Martin, Nice punchy tone and it stays in tune well! Great workhorse guitar! The sound is unmistakable Martin and the high pressure laminate back and sides look good and don't ding dent chip or scratch easy. Built in electronics are convenient and easy to use. keep in mind that these guitars still have plenty of solid wood used in the construction so you will still have to humidify these guitars during the dry months. I ordered an open box guitar at a discount. It was the Black one. When I opened the box I found the documentation and the batteries for the electronics loose in the box. It didn't come with the sound hole cover either. This guitar had been played as the pick marks below the sound hole were obvious. This guitar was not a 2nd but more like a 3rd. I called to return it and decided to order a brand new one in Natural. I would really like to see a pick guard for this instrument but the sound hole is oval so I would need to buy one and modify it to fit. I received the new one and it seems fine but the jury's out on the playability until I get it set-up by some pro techs. Then I'll follow up with another review.Stan the Man
I own several six string instruments, but this is the first 12 string to my collection. I am very happy with the choice. I did a lot of research, and played several different brands and I would always keep coming back to this one. What did it for me: Smooth and easy is to play. Many 12 strings may get a bit tiresome after a while, and depending on the brand the tension of the strings can be very punishing on the instrument AND your hands. I can play thing thing for hours with no problem, and it stays in tune surprisingly long, even when I get spirited with this thing. I use it mainly as a rhythm guitar, not much bending going on with this. The preamp, with the incorporated tuner is such a great convenient tool. Speaking of that, I've met some people that like to have the strings in this model doubled up for their music style — such as "norteño music" (instead of the traditional octave type), and neck & bridge seems impervious to the added tension. I don't plan to do that, but I am happy to know that I have that choice. I went with the black finish, and it is gorgeous. It is nice when you open the case (I paired it with the Yamaha APX Vinyl Hardshell Guitar Case — it fits perfectly) all your friends get that "wow" factor. It sounds amazing unplugged, just loud enough to be a pleasant compliment to not-amplified vocals. Once you plug her in, this thing is a monster! Amazing, crisp professional sound! The tones are controlled, there is no distortion when you need to get that "forte" emphasis to the song. I haven't had any feedback problems, even though it actually comes with a convenient sound-hole cover. And the answer is no, it will not diminish the sound quality if you use the cover, especially plugged in. For the price, you're definitely purchasing a guitar that is much, much better than more expensive models. This guitar is probably all it was designed to be and also probably perfect for an electric player who just wants to throw a little 12 string into their set-list. It plays like an electric. It is well put together and has all the appeal of a much more expensive guitar. However, it is a thin body design. "Thin" being the key word, that's exactly what you get from the ambient sound of the guitar. It can be EQ'ed to sound thicker in an active environment, but that's not what I look for in an instrument. The tight neck feel also was not to my liking.SRP

18. Morris Morris Mb-50 Japan-Made 12 String Brasilian Rosewood 1989

Here is a great example of the beautiful guitars morris was making in japan back in the day. the morris company still exists and tells us that this model is rare with only 100 of them being made between 1989 and 1991. it features an all-solid spruce top with pearl inlay all around and at the rosette and ivory tone body bindings. sides and back are laminated of genuine high quality nicely figured brazilian rosewood (jacaranda) as is the headstock overlay where the "t. f. morris" logo is also of pearl inlay. laminated is quite unfortunate term regarding japanese made guitars. these "laminates" were made from 2 layers of solid wood glued together with natural resins. they were made so well that they performed as good as solid woods while being far less expensive in guitar production and far more resistant to cracking in regular use. there is an ebony bridge and a dark rosewood fretboard with decorative geometric pearl inlay. adding to the look is a d-35 style three-piece back …

I now have the 12 string that I've always wanted, a Guild 12 string acoustic/electric. I received it last week and marveled at how perfect the finish was. One or two very minor issues with the construction that I fixed (slight excess bonding material I believe) and perfect it is. In this past week I am surprised at how it stays in tune overnight. I do have it tuned down one full step. The action is surprisingly low with no buzz. I connected to my Fender Acoustasonic Jr to test the electronics and was blown away by the power and clarity. Zero regrets! Many hours of enjoyment ahead. I took months to come down to this choice, Takamine was the alternative. Only a week into ownership but all is great!Walter C.
The guitar iis great, but not happy with salespeople. Was told it was new and still in the box and that they had a case to fit it. I drove further to the store than the one that was closer to me because they had both. The Colo. Springs store not only didnt have the guitar in the box new, they didnt have the case either. They trough a set of strings in because the guitar on the walls strings were old. Guitar was dirty. I cleaned up the guitar in the store to make sure that there were no scratches had small scrape on top of headstock but not noticeable. They ordered me a case and had it sent to the Pueblo store because it was closet. Yhe case did not fit luckily they found one in there store that did.Kenny
I play out several times a month and have been playing guitar for decades. I spotted this Guild 12-string on MF – a friend highly recommends Guild 12 stings, so I bought it. It arrived well packaged, obviously new from the factory because the strings were all loose. The fit and finish are excellent. The back of the neck is smooth and fast. Frets are all well finished. Once tuned and strings stretched, the guitar stays in tune. Only minor item is the tuning machines are inconsistent. Some are harder to turn than others, and a couple of strings tend to "pop" or jump when tuning up. Probably just needs a little attention at the nut when I change the strings the first time. I still give the guitar 5 stars because of the price range it is in.Paul
