(1) directions on the can are a little small for my old eyes (needed to find my reading glasses). (2) Followed them to a T – and the application of the finish was mostly as advertised. except. (3) the product was used (4 thin coats) over prepared maple, exactly as directed, but the instruction could have advised that one ought to raise the grain, and sand off all nibs first. (4) After the 1st coat cured and dried – I had to abrasively remove most of it because the (hard maple) grain had raised (on glue-laminated table top) so that the smoothness of just one coat – looked pretty bad. This is after-all water-borne urethane based finish – and the suspension of the uncured- finish will soak the ends of the wood fibers.. duh. Still a few words of prevention (raise grain ) would have prevented a whole lot of frustration…and time wasted …"oh no Mr. Bill" 3 more coats and 2 more fine sanding rounds later I stopped…not completely satisfied. But I needed to deliver the table tops to my client. Durability of coating has been almost meeting expectations, except for durability in the location where it counts: In my experience this urethane coat when exposed to the cleaning solution required by the local health department, cuts the expected lifetime of the finish by 60%- to 70%… the alkaline constituent in the solution slowly attacks and dissolves the cured finish. This product does have a learning curve to it. Works great on a small project, but the larger ones need a better understanding of how this product goes on. Despite following the multitude of YouTube videos and the manufacturers videos of just how easy this product is to apply, I was getting too many streaks while applying it to a large screen TV stand project. Frustrating. The only method of removing this product effectively is to strip it off chemically, then start over again. Practicing on smaller pieces is fine, but better off practicing on a larger piece to figure out the best method that will work for you. Looking back, I applied this product in January in my unheated basement (New England area) which might have added to my woes, temps in the upper fifties in my basement (RF of 60%). I wasn't able to heat the space effectively so I switched to GF's water based gloss finish and sprayed it on with an HVLP spray system which worked out much better and dried quicker.Thomas

Just used this product. I see potential but can't seem to get it right. At this point in time I would not recommend the product. Maybe if I figure it out If you use a thin coat as directed you always get brush lines. Plus the stuff is so thick it is very difficult to put on just a thin coat. Working in small sections the poly didn't blend well. Picture attached. I've used several of the Minwax Poly products. "One Coat" intrigued me so decided to give it a shot. Don't think I would use it again. The finish itself was satisfactory although I don't feel it is the equivalent of two or three coats but time will tell. Application is where I was unimpressed. Actually, pretty disappointed. It applies very thick and sticky and is not easy to spread evenly across the surface. It also results in a good bit of globbing and what I'll call poly-boogers. Honestly it was like trying to seal coat with Elmer's School Glue. I'll return to the Poly-Acrylic product for future projects.dschloder
This is a terrible product. Notice that most of the favorable reviews are from people that received the product for free. I tried this product on the back of some cabinet doors before I used it on the fronts. I am returning the product to Lowes for a refund. If you want to understand the problem it dries as you paint it on so quickly it leaves gloppy patches and brush marks everywhere. I sanded and then did a second coat – just slightly better. Now I just did a third coat no progress. It paints on just like Elmer's white glue sticky and thick. You don't have time to finish a long brush stroke before the coat is drying. Minwax doesn't have any tips "just call us" is the their suggestion. I think Minwax should take this off the market to try to salvage their diminishing reputation. It is no wonder Valspar is winning in the big box stores. No, I won't try Valspar's version of this product either. Very disappointing! I do like water based polyurethane but just use the thinner version and plan on 6 coats. They dry in an hour or two and then sand lightly with 220 grit or higher and recoat- just like we always have.DougG

Okay, I've been using this kit for years on new guitars. I use it for general maintenance during every string change. The fretboard conditioner is not to clean the frets, it's to add a nice moisture to a dry board. It leaves it nice and soft and dark… just be sure to wipe it completely dry afterwards. Follow the directions. I use Lem Oil to clean the frets and board FIRST, then the conditioner. The metal cleaner is not for frets, it's for hardware, and it shines it up amazingly. Use it on the bridge, tailpiece, and tuners and you'll love how it makes dull hardware shine like new. Lastly, the cream polish. This isn't the best polish I've used, but nowhere near the worst either. You need 2 cloths, one to apply and one to buff/clean up. Works like a charm for shining things up smoothly. It does leave a slight residue that has to be buffed out with a clean cloth and makes the guitar body less slippery… but I like it that way. It's all preference. I particularly love the smell of the fretboard conditioner, and the dust brush comes in super handy for cleaning edges of frets, saddles, pegs, the nut slots, pickup cavities, and all of those other tricky spots. When used properly it's a great kit. People always comment on how all of my guitars always look brand new. If you're looking to buff out scratches, you may want to turn to something more heat/friction based. I've been playing guitar for about 20 years and I am using this kit on mostly newer nitro finishes. Even a Danelectro. Remember, the key here is lem oil first for cleaning (on the frets too), use 2 cloths for polishing, and do not use the metal cleaner on the frets, just the hardware… it's abrasive and will leave marks on the board if you get any on the wood. And of course, I would only use this kit on electrics.NobodyFromNowhere
This products practically don't work. I purchased this kit to restore the shine and remove the hazy look on the finish of different parts on the guitar (not even to get scratches off) and give a better look to my now aged looking Gibson SG Standard 91. The restorative cream only made the problem even worse, after applying as instructed the final result was only good in the areas that you don't get skin contact while playing, the rest of the guitar was all hazy. I wrote to Gibson to see the correct way to apply the polish and the response was "Once you see the polish start to dry and haze up a bit, that would be time to buff" but didn't make any difference. In the end after buffing off many times the restorative cream with the Gibson Pump Polish (which I usually use to maintain the finish) made it shine again, did not get the hazy parts to look like new, but a least my guitar wasn't all opaque. As for the metal cleaner, this wont get off even small amount of rust from the washers or screws as it says, very disappointing. Maybe the only good thing you get in this kit is the fretboard conditioner (looks great after applying it, and smells good) and the pair of cloths to clean your guitar after playing. As for the little brush that comes in the kit I haven't found any use to it.Horishas

Great product, comes with everything you need a larger fabric cloth which is huge. When I ordered this product id figure the cloth would be 6×6 inches but boy to my joy it was about 1ft by 1ft. This product does what it promised to do at a great price. The quality of this product is good. The product does what is said it would and did it very well. I bought a used guitar with a few dings and the coat was about to start fading.
