I played a solid state boutique amp for years. It was a 100 watt Pearce amp, with a 2-12'' cabinet. As the great Amos Garrett once said, "The older you get, the smaller your amps get." I decided to go tube and purchased the '60s Fender Princeton and Delux Reverb re-makes. The '65 Delux Reverb remake is simply the best sounding amp I've ever played. I play classic rock, jazz, blues and some world music. It excels, and I mean excels, in every context. Warm, articulate and clean, and the break-up is just so silky. I had a '68 Super Reverb ($400 new back then!) which I sold back in the 1970's. Loved it! Big mistake parting with it (look what their selling for now!). I recently tried a Fender Champion 40. The Champ was a good amp, but just didn't match the tone and warmth of a tube amp. My '65 Deluxe Reverb is ear candy! Although it lacks the "horsepower" of the Super (my gig days are behind me now so I don't need it), it still has enough muscle to rattle your teeth and fill the room. More importantly it was instant smiles and fond memories the minute I fired it up! My Strat, '61 SG and Fender Acoustic (all from AMS!) lit it up! I couldn't be more pleased and impressed. Highly recommend the amp and AMS! Ordered Friday, arrived Sunday, and their payment plans make getting my gear from them simple, easy, affordable and a "no-brainer". My next purchase is already in my cart! High fives to AMS for excellent product lines and outstanding customer service! Just a classic Fender tone. The clarify of the clean tone is outstanding. Can get a great crunch tone as well when you get the volume above about 4. I play a lot of styles and have a lot of amps. I think I still prefer my Marshall JVM for very saturated distorted tones, but have been having a ball trying different overdrive pedals with the amp–which it takes very well. If you are ok using pedals to craft different tones, this can be a very versatile amp for all styles.Robb

It's beautifully hand-wired in an effort to emulate the original, but using modern production techniques. It's definitely a true classic beauty with a nice subtle vintage look. The Jenson P10R Alnico speaker and its solid pine cabinet sound really great and for 12 watts the amp is amazingly loud. It has all the dreamy tube tremolo and spring reverb that Fenders amps are know for. There are several reissue versions of this amp and they all sound great, but each has a slightly different vibe. This 64 edition is definitely a gig and road worthy little amp that recreates a true classic amp, sounds great and should last a lifetime.
I've been playing guitar since a kid. My Dad used to own a guitar store where he was an amp technician. I'll always remember sneaking into his room when he wasn't home and playing his salmon pink Strat and Twin reverb amp. There was always a magic in them and they really inspired me. Fast forward 30 years and I've grown up just like him. Been playing professionally for a long time through some pretty nice gear but something in me always wanted to revisit that amp, it just had the perfect sounds I played lots of amps before choosing a Marshall 50w plexi as my amp of choice for gigging and it was good, no doubt a about that, played it for almost 15 years straight until one day buying that Twin I'd always so wished I also had. Found I played it far more than the plexi so actually ended up selling the Marshall and just sticking with the 65' reissue! It does everything the Marshall did and more I think. Playing them side by side before making the final decision to sell set my mind at ease because I couldnl get the same sounds from the Twin. Even did a little A/B recording with overdrive and no one could pick which one was which I play mainly classic rock and this amp is everything I'll ever need. Small wattage Amos always sound and feel small to me so was never interested in them, of it's too loud turn it down, the volume is far better than the plexi because that one sat on a hair trigger, really difficult to get a bedroom volume out of. The Twin is quote easy and pot smooth to use. Plexi goes from 0-almost full volume at half way to 1 on the dial. Love itJez
I received the amp yesterday and have only played it (both the vibrato and normal channel) for about half an hour in my living room, but I was so impressed that I wanted to go ahead and write a review, which I almost never do. I've been playing electric guitar almost 50 years and have owned many different amps, almost all Marshall or Fender, including a late 60s or early 70s 100 watt Marshall (no master volume), a mid 70s silver face Twin Reverb and Dual Showman, a 1987X 50 watt Marshall reissue, a '59 Bassman reissue (before the LTD version), a '65 Super Reverb reissue, a Twinolux, and a standard '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue. The only other amp I have currently is a wine red '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue (DRRI) with a P12Q Jensen speaker. The '65 DRRI has been one of my favorites. I like the 6V6 sound and I think it's hard to get a bad sound out of that amp. I really like the clarity of the 64 Custom Deluxe Reverb compared to my '65 DRRI. It is noticeably brighter than my '65 DRRI, but part of that may be because the '64 has a C12Q speaker while my current '65 DRRI has a P12Q speaker. Since reverb and vibrato work on both channels of this '64 Custom Deluxe Reverb, the vibrato channel is like having the bright switch on (it reminds me of the way my super reverb sounded with the bright switch on) and the normal channel is like having the bright switch off. I like the way both the reverb and vibrato work and sound on this '64 more than the '65 DRRI. The same guitar (a Strat with '69 custom shop pickups) has noticeably longer sustain when I play it through this '64 compared to my '65 DRRI. Some people have mentioned a possible problem with noise (hiss or hum) from this amp, due to the way the channels are connected together, but I hear virtually no noise at all from this amp, not when it is sitting still (with both normal and vibrato channels turned up to 3), and not when I turn any of the knobs. I wish I had bought this amp in the first place instead of the '65 DRRI.Kenneth

This amp will need repair. it turns on and turns up all the way, all the knobs function but it has a harsh sound coming from it. also the reverb does work. i was unable to test the vibrato because i do not have the pedal for it. ( i uploaded a video to show what it's doing). if you're good at working on these, this will be a steal of a deal. also if you've wanted that super reverb sound without having to haul around a 4×10 huge amp, this compact version will do that and some in a much easier to move package (obviously once it's repaired). i am not able to diagnosis it but since it all seems to work, it most likely will be an easy repair but i am not sure. has upgraded warehouse american vintage 4 ohm g10c speakers. those alone go for $89.99 a piece on musicians friend and gc.

I bought this amp to provide a bigger vintage Fender tone, since I play in a band that does a lot of music from the early 60s (surf, R&B, rock-a-billy, country, etc). After looking at various reviews of different Fender amps (Twin, Vibrolux, Deluxe, Bassman, etc) I finally decided that a Super Reverb would be a good choice for what I was looking for. The thing that makes the Super Reverb stand out (tone wise) is that it uses a 4×10 speaker configuration (similar to a Bassman) and it has a tube rectifier (also like the Bassman). But unlike the Bassman it has this gorgeous reverb and tremolo. As compared with a Fender Twin, the Super is a little warmer sounding and a bit more "spongier" due to the tube rectifier. It also breaks up easier than a Twin, making it more like a Deluxe where you want just a big of grit but still plenty of headroom to play loud and clean. These aspects make the Super Reverb an excellent choice for doing rockabilly and country tones as well as Blues. It's the best sounding amp I've ever heard for a Strat or Tele. The Strat comes alive with a tone and responsiveness that put you into Blues heaven. I also use a guitar with TV Jones Filtertrons and it provides a fantastic tone for surf/rockabilly styles. The Reverb on this amp is probably the best spring reverb I've ever heard on a tube amp. It's huge sounding! Set the amp volume on 4, set the reverb to 5 and you have one of the best sounds for classic surf tone that you'll ever need. I'm digging this amp so much. The only down side is the size and weight. But it is manageable. The amp quiets down nicely also. It's one of the best sounding amps for clean finger-style Jazz (get's a fantastic Wes Montgomery tone, … he actually used these amps). So bottom line is that I highly recommend this amp if you play rockabilly, surf, country, classic rock, or blues. I wouldn't reccomend the amp if you play metal or are looking for more of a Marshall tone, however the amp does take pedals nicely.
The 65 SRRI is a very interesting amp that I've had quite a good amount of experience with now, owning a total of 3 of the reissues, 1 from 2001 and 2 from 2017. In my estimation first and foremost, the amp is too loud. If using this for anything but LOUD outdoor/indoor shows, than you're wasting your time and money. The good qualities of this amp are that it handles treble frequencies unlike any way I've ever heard an amp before. Not to be cliche, but it can really only be experienced what "touch-sensitivity" means in this amp. It's a really weird experience because you hear things you don't normally hear, and they're pronounced really articulately. This in my opinion is why Texas Flood sounded the way it did, there's all these harmonics going on that aren't normally produced at low volumes, in a 1×12 cabinet. So now the negatives, this amp is not a jazz amp, it's not a metal or even high-gain amp. It's clean, it's loud, and that's how it works. The 10-inch speakers cut out alot of bottom end that 12 inch speakers give, so you get a very narrow, focused frequency range. I think the speakers themselves and the voicing of the amp in combination give you that sound, but nonetheless the amp doesn't lend itself to anything less than bright, tight, and focused. It doesn't sway from that sound no matter how you EQ it. How I used the amp was in my apartment and it's too loud, too specific of a sound, and is just a real problem unless you need both of the qualities mentioned. If you want loud, clean, and nothing else, this is your amp. I would recommend this product based on it's quality and sound, but only if the person who wanted it needed what it has to offer.Nathan
To preface… I've owned pretty much all the major Fender amps at one point or another. Blues Jrs, Blues Deluxe, Hot Rod Deluxe & Deville, Supersonic, 65 Deluxe Reverb, 65 Princeton, 65 Twin Reverb, 68 custom Princeton Twin & Deluxe and the buck stops here. This is currently the best sounding, most versatile amp that Fender makes, and probably the closest an amp has ever come to being perfect. If you're looking for the world's greatest clean tone/pedal platform/sublime breakup this is it. Period. Save yourself a bunch of money and time and just buy it. One and done. I had a friend recommend me this expensive/heavy beast of an amp years ago and I didn't listen.. turned off by the price and weight. I proceeded to own almost every other Fender but none of them lit me up inside like this one. The reverb is heaven, the tremolo is perfect, it sounds WONDERFUL at 2 on the volume for home practice and WONDERFUL at 3-4 for a gig. Yes it's awkward to carry, yes it's heavy-ish (altho not as much as the twin), but none of that matters because of the sound it produces. It will highlight your playing dynamics, and the true sound of your guitar like no other amp. It will inspire you to play more, it will make you play above your abilities, it gives back. It can handle any kind of music. It sounds great with any guitar you throw at it (although you absolutely must experience it with a strat). It's got tilt back legs which along with the vintage style slot tuners are probably Leo's greatest underappreciated inventions. Don't expect to get this bad boy to break up at home or smaller stage volumes, arm yourself with some good OD pedals. It produces an extremely loud, FULL, 3D sound which spreads across the stage. BONUS- a little known fact… the often neglected normal channel makes a fantastic bass amp. Just try it! I played a solid state boutique amp for years. It was a 100 watt Pearce amp, with a 2-12'' cabinet. As the great Amos Garrett once said, "The older you get, the smaller your amps get." I decided to go tube and purchased the '60s Fender Princeton and Delux Reverb re-makes. The '65 Delux Reverb remake is simply the best sounding amp I've ever played. I play classic rock, jazz, blues and some world music. It excels, and I mean excels, in every context. Warm, articulate and clean, and the break-up is just so silky. I had a '68 Super Reverb ($400 new back then!) which I sold back in the 1970's. Loved it! Big mistake parting with it (look what their selling for now!). I recently tried a Fender Champion 40. The Champ was a good amp, but just didn't match the tone and warmth of a tube amp. My '65 Deluxe Reverb is ear candy! Although it lacks the "horsepower" of the Super (my gig days are behind me now so I don't need it), it still has enough muscle to rattle your teeth and fill the room. More importantly it was instant smiles and fond memories the minute I fired it up! My Strat, '61 SG and Fender Acoustic (all from AMS!) lit it up! I couldn't be more pleased and impressed. Highly recommend the amp and AMS! Ordered Friday, arrived Sunday, and their payment plans make getting my gear from them simple, easy, affordable and a "no-brainer". My next purchase is already in my cart! High fives to AMS for excellent product lines and outstanding customer service! Just a classic Fender tone. The clarify of the clean tone is outstanding. Can get a great crunch tone as well when you get the volume above about 4. I play a lot of styles and have a lot of amps. I think I still prefer my Marshall JVM for very saturated distorted tones, but have been having a ball trying different overdrive pedals with the amp–which it takes very well. If you are ok using pedals to craft different tones, this can be a very versatile amp for all styles.Robb

Fender 65 deluxe reverb amplifier. excellent condition. bought new in 2007 and has always been used in the studio. has not travelled much. recently replaced the power tubes and was checked out by my technician and sam ash music stores and amp is in perfect condition. more amp than i need now and looking to replace with a smaller practice amp. i play in a worship team and i plug into the church's sound system. it will tough to replace. powerful and clean. great amp.

I purchased this fender 65 deluxe reverb combo new from sweetwater in 2017, as a photo prop for my guitar strap business. it has been virtually unplayed since, estimate under 10 hours, always at small room volume. unusual (and great looking) wine red color is said to be a sweetwater exclusive, not sure of total number made for them. serial # cr 373181. absolutely mint condition throughout, no nicks, scratches or blemishes. never transported. includes original fender cover and footswitch.

Two weeks in, I'm enjoying this amplifier every day. Brilliant clean tones we all know and love, with both Fender Telecaster and Gibson Les Paul. I'm playing the Bright channel, volume at 4, EQs at 6, reverb at 4, tremolo speed at 6, intensity at 5. It sounds huge, without being too loud. For loud, I play the LP into a Dr. Z Route 66, and that's been my favorite tone. Now, this gives that a run for its money– different beast, but very complimentary. I have no plans to buy any more amps.BRENDAN
Wonderful amp. Sounds just like an original mid 60s Deluxe Reverb I just to own except better. Reverb and tremolo on both channels and the normal channel has the bright cap removed. Plus its new, so no worn out parts to deal with. Sound is lush and clean at lower volume and starts to sing as the gain is increased. Really outstanding. Its expensive – but still a very good value for a hand wired amp. An original would cost the same or more and there would be issues to deal with.alasinge0
All I can say is, "Wow." This amp sounds phenomenal. It just sounds so full and rich and clear. It just naturally compresses and breaks up in such a nice and subtle way. At 4 on the volume, there is just enough for the notes to be chewy without being too loud to play at home (in a twin house). I was just immediately blown away by the lush 3D sound, and I have always been a huge fan of the bias vary tremolo. Sonically it is very close to my special edition 65 Princeton Reverb Reissue which has a Jensen P12Q. the Deluxe just adds so much more on every level. I still love both amps, but I really can't imagine waiting to turn on any of my other amps after playing this. I've owned a ton of amps, and this is the first time I have felt I could actually see myself selling all of the others.Patman

It's beautifully hand-wired in an effort to emulate the original, but using modern production techniques. It's definitely a true classic beauty with a nice subtle vintage look. The Jenson P10R Alnico speaker and its solid pine cabinet sound really great and for 12 watts the amp is amazingly loud. It has all the dreamy tube tremolo and spring reverb that Fenders amps are know for. There are several reissue versions of this amp and they all sound great, but each has a slightly different vibe. This 64 edition is definitely a gig and road worthy little amp that recreates a true classic amp, sounds great and should last a lifetime.
I've been playing guitar since a kid. My Dad used to own a guitar store where he was an amp technician. I'll always remember sneaking into his room when he wasn't home and playing his salmon pink Strat and Twin reverb amp. There was always a magic in them and they really inspired me. Fast forward 30 years and I've grown up just like him. Been playing professionally for a long time through some pretty nice gear but something in me always wanted to revisit that amp, it just had the perfect sounds I played lots of amps before choosing a Marshall 50w plexi as my amp of choice for gigging and it was good, no doubt a about that, played it for almost 15 years straight until one day buying that Twin I'd always so wished I also had. Found I played it far more than the plexi so actually ended up selling the Marshall and just sticking with the 65' reissue! It does everything the Marshall did and more I think. Playing them side by side before making the final decision to sell set my mind at ease because I couldnl get the same sounds from the Twin. Even did a little A/B recording with overdrive and no one could pick which one was which I play mainly classic rock and this amp is everything I'll ever need. Small wattage Amos always sound and feel small to me so was never interested in them, of it's too loud turn it down, the volume is far better than the plexi because that one sat on a hair trigger, really difficult to get a bedroom volume out of. The Twin is quote easy and pot smooth to use. Plexi goes from 0-almost full volume at half way to 1 on the dial. Love itJez

I've been playing electric guitar almost 50 years and have owned many different amps, almost all Marshall or Fender, including a late 60s or early 70s 100 watt Marshall (no master volume), a mid 70s silver face Twin Reverb and Dual Showman, a 1987X 50 watt Marshall reissue, a '59 Bassman reissue (before the LTD version), a '65 Super Reverb reissue, a Twinolux, and a standard '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue. The only other amp I have currently is a wine red '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue (DRRI) with a P12Q Jensen speaker. The '65 DRRI has been one of my favorites. I like the 6V6 sound and I think it's hard to get a bad sound out of that amp. I really like the clarity of the 64 Custom Deluxe Reverb compared to my '65 DRRI. It is noticeably brighter than my '65 DRRI, but part of that may be because the '64 has a C12Q speaker while my current '65 DRRI has a P12Q speaker. Hello there! this amp is in near mint conidtion condition. only some very light wear to tolex on one corner. includes footswitch. works excellently, sounds incredible. a fantastic modern take on the classic silverface deluxe reverb, the amp simply sings and if i didn't have a "65 i wouldn't be parting with her! plus, it's loaded with a powerful sounding celestion g12v-70. great for gigs, recording, any context you need stellar fender tone. video on the page is of me playing through the amp at relix magazine in new york, it truly is an incredible amp and i will be sad to see it go, but look forward to hearing from you about its new home!!!

It is noticeably brighter than my '65 DRRI, but part of that may be because the '64 has a C12Q speaker while my current '65 DRRI has a P12Q speaker. Since reverb and vibrato work on both channels of this '64 Custom Deluxe Reverb, the vibrato channel is like having the bright switch on (it reminds me of the way my super reverb sounded with the bright switch on) and the normal channel is like having the bright switch off. I like the way both the reverb and vibrato work and sound on this '64 more than the '65 DRRI. The same guitar (a Strat with '69 custom shop pickups) has noticeably longer sustain when I play it through this '64 compared to my '65 DRRI. Some people have mentioned a possible problem with noise (hiss or hum) from this amp, due to the way the channels are connected together, but I hear virtually no noise at all from this amp, not when it is sitting still (with both normal and vibrato channels turned up to 3), and not when I turn any of the knobs. I'm selling my fender custom '68 deluxe reverb. i am not the original owner of this amplifier. i have used this amplifier live a handful of times but has mostly resided in my smoke free home. this is a rocksolid amp. great fender cleans and breaks up nicely when you dig in. the only thing that i had changed on this amp were the power tubes as the originals were dying out and the speaker cable replaced. the replacement power tubes are a pair of 6v6 jj power tubes. otherwise this amplifier works great and really really sounds great. also comes with the original foot switch as well.

This amplifier is a classic, with some new twists. It’s got a great tone, breaks up nicely due at a slightly lower level than both the original Deluxe Reveeb and the ‘65 reissue, and with the custom Bassman channel, it has two sounds to choose from: the standard Deluxe tone (but no bright cap, so the sound is thicker and warmer), and the more organic tone of the Bassman sound. Both channels have reverb and tremolo, and that is another big selling point for me. I’ve owned six other Deluxe Reverbs over the years, including original ones, and I think this amplifier is up there with the best Deluxes. A friend of mine has an original 1965 Deluxe Reverb, and we put this one up against the 1965 model, and this came up ahead of the other one. The custom features give it an edge, and the Celestion speaker makes it sound crisp and doesn’t flub out like an old Jensen speaker does. This amp can do it all, takes pedals extremely well, and it’ll help your tone get to a higher level. Like another friend of mine said, “It sounds like the record.” Says it all.
Just can't say enough good things about this amp. From the moment I plugged it in I was in tone heaven. Simply strummed a chord and just found myself listening amazed at what a good amp can do to bring out the tone of a guitar. Everything about the amp is just right. Great tone without having to shatter my eardrums. Simple tone controls that I honestly haven't had to really touch at all. Stellar reverb and very nice tremolo. I have used tremolo pedals and reverb pedals and there is no comparison to the real deal that this amp produces. Both channels are very useful, the custom channel takes pedals better for sure while the vintage channel just gives you a warm fuzzy feeling. I for sure plan to hook up an a/b switch so I can use both. Fit and finish were perfect and it came with a really nice dust cover. Only negatives I have found are that turning it off creates a loud pop. I researched and apparently it is normal and many say to turn the volume down and then power it off from the power switch rather than turning the standby off first which does make a difference. My understanding is that the standby is for turning the amp on to warm up for a minute or two, then turn the standby on and standby isn't for turning off. Also standby isn't for taking breaks though that is the urban legend. Only other negative is that I would prefer a pedal that either has lights on it to know if trem and reverb are on or some sort of light on the amp but since I pretty much always have reverb on and can clearly tell when the trem is on not a show stopper but would have been usefulmelodyguy
I brought into the hype and got the 68 deluxe. Not a bad amp, but not worth the money. Besides the noise issues and lack of a mid EQ you can't switch channels without an AB box. It's a nice sounding amp, but the Hot rod deluxe has more channels and headroom and the Blues deluxe is also a better sounding and useful amp. I played a solid state boutique amp for years. It was a 100 watt Pearce amp, with a 2-12'' cabinet. As the great Amos Garrett once said, "The older you get, the smaller your amps get." I decided to go tube and purchased the '60s Fender Princeton and Delux Reverb re-makes. The '65 Delux Reverb remake is simply the best sounding amp I've ever played. I play classic rock, jazz, blues and some world music. It excels, and I mean excels, in every context. Warm, articulate and clean, and the break-up is just so silky. I had a '68 Super Reverb ($400 new back then!) which I sold back in the 1970's. Loved it! Big mistake parting with it (look what their selling for now!). I recently tried a Fender Champion 40. The Champ was a good amp, but just didn't match the tone and warmth of a tube amp. My '65 Deluxe Reverb is ear candy! Although it lacks the "horsepower" of the Super (my gig days are behind me now so I don't need it), it still has enough muscle to rattle your teeth and fill the room. More importantly it was instant smiles and fond memories the minute I fired it up! My Strat, '61 SG and Fender Acoustic (all from AMS!) lit it up! I couldn't be more pleased and impressed. Highly recommend the amp and AMS! Ordered Friday, arrived Sunday, and their payment plans make getting my gear from them simple, easy, affordable and a "no-brainer". Just a classic Fender tone. The clarify of the clean tone is outstanding. Can get a great crunch tone as well when you get the volume above about 4. I play a lot of styles and have a lot of amps. I think I still prefer my Marshall JVM for very saturated distorted tones, but have been having a ball trying different overdrive pedals with the amp–which it takes very well. If you are ok using pedals to craft different tones, this can be a very versatile amp for all styles.Robb

This has to be one of the best stamps I've ever had with the exception of one little hiccup. This is replacing a Fender Blues Deville, which I absolutely loved. I had access to almost every Fender amp when I bought my Blues Deville and it just spoke to me. Well, they don't make Blues Devilles anymore, and I knew the Hot Rod Deville existed, so I went for it. To my ears, it's the same as my previous amp. This is a two channel amp in which each channel is independent of the other with the exception of the tone knobs, which are the same for both channels, which is not a problem for me. When I plugged it in, I couldn't believe how incredible it sounded clean. It absolutely blew my mind. I used both a Stratocaster and a Les Paul. Then, I took the second channel and add a little bit of gain to it, which distorted it. The distortion on this amp is so creamy that I don't even need to use my TS9. It has to be one of the best distortions I have ever heard from an amplifier. I usually use an Orange TH30C for my distortion. My Fender amp was always a clean amplifier. I may be using this one for the distortion and my Orange may get sidelined. The reason I'm giving this amp four stars is because of the following; when you go to switch channels using the included foot switch, there's a loud pop that happens every time you switch channels while you're playing. Apparently, it's inherent to the amplifier. It's the only reason I cannot use this amplifier with clean and dirty at the same time unless I use a TS9 on the clean channel. That really was not a well thought out process from Fender. For the price of this amp, I would think that problem would've been fixed, but it is what it is. I still love the amplifier and I'm still glad I bought it, although I will have to use my Orange when I want a distorted sound.Chuck
I bought my new Fender Blues Jr v4 about 2 months ago from a guy who decided he was more of a "Marshall Guy After All" so I got a bargain, but that was just the beginning. I wanted to spend some time and several sessions playing with this thing before I rushed into a review, but it turns out my first impressions have been even more reinforced since playing this thing for several hours, and the big word here is WOW. I have been playing for over 62 years (that's right, got my first guitar at 7) and bought my first Strat in high school. I've played and owned a LOT of different amps, and even now I have a few pieces for which I have some sentiment, but now it seems I will have to seriously reconsider. Good thing there is no "Amp Limit Law", but if there was I could finally happily liquidate all the others if I could have just my new Blues Jr. I have read voraciously for years about concepts such as "touch sensitive", "controlling breakup with the guitar volume", "takes pedals well", etc. Turns out these have only been myths to me all this time until now. Everything good and superlative that's been written about this amp is absolutely true. The preamp section is like pure magic in shaping the tone and delivering it to my favorite-EL84 power amp section. I have never been a fan of the usual Fender tube lineup, and when I heard this runs EL84s I was already excited. I am still a Strat guy to this day and love everything about it. But I have never even dreamed it could sound so good. I have an Egnater Rebel 20, a vintage Crate 15 watt blonde with a Dr Z speaker, and my prior favorite-a 5 watt Epiphone Valve Jr into a 12" Eminence Lady Luck. I have some others, but nothing I own or have owned can even come close to this thing. And what has been said about the Celestion speaker choice is again, absolutely right on. The sound from this amp would be as if you had an old Deluxe Reverb, did a cap job, retube, and maybe speaker upgrade. I guess I'm trying to say that it soundsMark, R
Simplicity itself, with great tone and a big sound from a small package. I've a few amps, ranging from heads and cabs to combos, but had a hankering for a small tube combo – one that could do a rehearsal if needed. This has a great sound with a 335 and a Telecaster, and so easy to dial in a fantastic tone – infact hard to get a bad tone. Plenty loud enough, I would happily take this out and gig it. I love the fact you can unplug the internal speaker and plug it into a cab, makes it a great package. No perceivable noise when winding it up, and the stock speaker is great, good tight bass and nice and chimey on top. Seems solidly built, but I guess time will tell on that front. All in all, very pleased with this, and great value.Customer

Fender has knocked it out of the park with this amp, in my opinion. The bias tremolo is better than the trem in my Princeton, it can be both less intense and more intense. The speed of the trem can be slower than on any other Fender amp I have used, and plenty fast as well. The reverb is more usable through the sweep of the knob, BUT it won't do the crazy washed out reverb of a Princeton or a Super Reverb. It has the warmth of the Princeton, nearly the power of the Super Reverb, and weighs 35 lbs. The box itself does not suffer from high volume. Mine has no rattle or vibration. The 6L6 tubes have a deeper, bass/low mids quality in the bottom than 6v6 tubes, so expect a deeper quality to the amp if you have used the Princeton or the Deluxe prior to this. The mids knob allows you to bring in high mids, and not the darker, nasal mids of a tweed. You can get the tweed tone (or close) by experimenting with high volume and bass, almost no treble, and mids to taste. The bright switch on mine is relatively subtle, but I leave it off when using pedals, as I feel they interact better with the cap off. Your mileage will probably vary though. Finally, contrary to popular belief, I think the more powerful, room-filling amps are the best practice amps. They sound awesome and full at low volume,. My 4-10 Super and 2×15 Bandmaster sound amazing at low volume (were talking even 75 dbls in the room here), and so does the Custom Pro. Fender, you listened to players, and you nailed it with this totally usable, portable, plug and play amp.Craig S.
I once owned a Fender Vibrolux and sold it and regretted it almost immediately. I tried a few boutique amps and a modeler but missed that warm chimey sound that my Vibrolux used to get. I went to GC to buy a new VL but decided to try the '68 Custom Pro and WOW! This thing sings! It has that same warm, chimey sound but has a beautiful breakup IF you have the chance to push it. I say IF because this bad boy gets LOUD! It is 40W but seems more powerful. I hooked up an attenuator so that I could really push those tubes without my wife filing for divorce. This is MY amp now. My original review was in depth and compared it to my SF Champ and Princeton Reverb. I still like the amp, but wish it didn't have the PC board, more for the repair capability down the line than any impact on sound. I did swap out the speaker. The poor Celestion 10-30 doesn't get much love among some people, then again it's not a $100 Celestion. It is what it is; I don't "dislike" the speaker, but wanted to see if I could eke out any improvements with a swap. Anyway, I thought I'd try a different speaker and went for the WGS Veteran 10. There's not a lot of 4 ohm 10" guitar speakers out there and luckily WGS does offer some 4 ohm options. I hooked the speakers to an old DOD A/B box so I could immediately switch back and forth. I found the WGS Veteran 10 to my liking over the Celestion, but j-u-s-t barely. Top end,low end and volume were about the same on both to my ears. Where I perceived a slight difference was in the midrange, where the WGS Veteran 10 seemed to have a bit more clarity, and after all, the guitar lives in the midrange for the most part. When I cranked it up to "10" though, I definitely preferred the Celestion, which had more clarity; the WGS 10 seemed a bit dark and muddy. To my ears the Celestion 10-30 handled the full out distortion better. Then again, sound is very subjective. Was the WGS 10 a "big" improvement? To my ears no; I could live with the Celestion 10-30. And if I was gonna dime the controls and go for that bluesy grind I'd keep the Celestion in there. But for the lower volume clean sounds I favor I'll go with the WGS 10 for now. Bottom line, in my opinion and to my ears, the Celestion 10-30 is a pretty good match for the amp, but feel free to experiment like I did. After playing it for a while I'm not bothered by the lack of a spring reverb, the digital HALL emulation works fine for me.
