Fender Princeton 65 1X12 65W Guitar Combo Amp For Sale (Jan 2023 Update)

I've been looking for a great, clean amp that would really accent my guitar's natural sound. I first tried the Blues Junior which was nice but didn't have quite enough warmth and power behind it, I needed something more. I did my research and landed on this beautiful Princeton. It has everything that I was looking for. I am an experienced player but also prefer not to have a super complicated setup with switches and pedals and knobs; this Princeton keeps the focus solely on the tone and sound. Yes, there is a reverb knob which can add a little more, but I usually keep that off. What's great about getting an amp like this is you really get CLEAN, crisp open/clean channels and can really hear your axe sing. Because of that, it also allows your pedals to shine without being bogged down with too much of this or that, or in my opinion not having enough power behind the amplification. This amp is perfect for those who just want a clean guitar sound, or who want to throw in an effect here and there and still get everything you want in the sound. 1000% recommend.GuitarGuy911

This is a fantastic amp after owning it for 5 months. I constantly wonder about getting rid of other amps and just playing this one all the time. It's a "just right" amp. It's extremely easy to get along with. It sounds good in any room, is less sensitive to placement in the room than other amps I've owned, it's easy to dial in with different guitars. The Reverb & Tremolo always seem just right and easy to adjust. It seemingly gets along with just about any pedal/effect you run into it, but you don't need any FX or pedals with this amp either if you don't want them. If I had to think of a negative it's the vintage style food switch that comes with it. You can't mount it on a pedal board because the back is just press fit and the cable doesn't detach. I usually just wrap up the cable and put the foot switch in the amp for transport. It's no surprise these have been popular for decades.Ben

I went back and forth between the Princeton Custom 68 and the 65 Reissue, and settled on the 65 as I will make better use of the clean headroom and 'pure' clean Fender tone (compared to the darker, snarlier sound of the 68). The amp is fairly light (compared to other Fender amps) and a compact size for transporting to gigs, it has plenty of headroom for small to medium-sized shows but is quiet enough for home recording. The tone is beautiful, clear and sparkling, with a very characterful spring reverb and a subtle but warm vibrato. It's a simple amp with 1 channel, no mid EQ control, no standby switch – but it has everything I ever actually need to use on an amp. It starts to break up around 6 on the dial, which is pretty loud in a small room, so if you're looking for a crunchy amp then this isn't for you.Robin M.

I'll always remember sneaking into his room when he wasn't home and playing his salmon pink Strat and Twin reverb amp. There was always a magic in them and they really inspired me. Fast forward 30 years and I've grown up just like him. Been playing professionally for a long time through some pretty nice gear but something in me always wanted to revisit that amp, it just had the perfect sounds I played lots of amps before choosing a Marshall 50w plexi as my amp of choice for gigging and it was good, no doubt a about that, played it for almost 15 years straight until one day buying that Twin I'd always so wished I also had. Found I played it far more than the plexi so actually ended up selling the Marshall and just sticking with the 65' reissue! It does everything the Marshall did and more I think. Playing them side by side before making the final decision to sell set my mind at ease because I couldnl get the same sounds from the Twin. Even did a little A/B recording with overdrive and no one could pick which one was which I play mainly classic rock and this amp is everything I'll ever need. Small wattage Amos always sound and feel small to me so was never interested in them, of it's too loud turn it down, the volume is far better than the plexi because that one sat on a hair trigger, really difficult to get a bedroom volume out of. The Twin is quote easy and pot smooth to use. Plexi goes from 0-almost full volume at half way to 1 on the dial. Love itJez

I received the amp yesterday and have only played it (both the vibrato and normal channel) for about half an hour in my living room, but I was so impressed that I wanted to go ahead and write a review, which I almost never do. I've been playing electric guitar almost 50 years and have owned many different amps, almost all Marshall or Fender, including a late 60s or early 70s 100 watt Marshall (no master volume), a mid 70s silver face Twin Reverb and Dual Showman, a 1987X 50 watt Marshall reissue, a '59 Bassman reissue (before the LTD version), a '65 Super Reverb reissue, a Twinolux, and a standard '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue. The only other amp I have currently is a wine red '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue (DRRI) with a P12Q Jensen speaker. The '65 DRRI has been one of my favorites. I like the 6V6 sound and I think it's hard to get a bad sound out of that amp. I really like the clarity of the 64 Custom Deluxe Reverb compared to my '65 DRRI. It is noticeably brighter than my '65 DRRI, but part of that may be because the '64 has a C12Q speaker while my current '65 DRRI has a P12Q speaker. Since reverb and vibrato work on both channels of this '64 Custom Deluxe Reverb, the vibrato channel is like having the bright switch on (it reminds me of the way my super reverb sounded with the bright switch on) and the normal channel is like having the bright switch off. I like the way both the reverb and vibrato work and sound on this '64 more than the '65 DRRI. The same guitar (a Strat with '69 custom shop pickups) has noticeably longer sustain when I play it through this '64 compared to my '65 DRRI. Some people have mentioned a possible problem with noise (hiss or hum) from this amp, due to the way the channels are connected together, but I hear virtually no noise at all from this amp, not when it is sitting still (with both normal and vibrato channels turned up to 3), and not when I turn any of the knobs. I wish I had bought this amp in the first place instead of the '65 DRRI.Kenneth

Amazing little tube amp! If you're looking at getting your first tube amp, this is a highly recommended starter amp. It sounds great as a studio amp and it gets plenty loud given it's 15W, which makes it suitable for smaller gigs. With the volume turned down, it sounds really clean, but it breaks up pretty nicely around 6-8. It also handles pedals and overdrive pretty well (especially with the fat switch engaged). The Jensen C-12N sounds really nice. The cabinet is particle board, which might be a con for some people, but it's not a deal breaker considering the price. Fender really got it right with the Gen IIIs, which is probably why they're still selling pretty well.Matt T.

I spent six months trying to decide between the tweed Blues Jr., the Blues Jr. IV, the Vox AC15, and the Roland JC40 (a bit of an outlier in this list), and finally decided to go with the tweed after several visits to GC and many side-by-side comparisons. I'm not a serious blues player, nor do I spend much time with classic rock influenced jamming/noodling, but was looking for an amp with a stellar clean sound for playing clean or as a canvas for pedals, decent distortion, and surfy spring reverb. The Vox is classic for a reason, but the clean tone was lacking personality. The built in tremolo is great, but the reverb wasn't heavy enough for me (although many others complain that it is a bit too much for them), and the overdrive tone wasn't exactly what I was looking for. Otherwise, it seemed well constructed and had a great look. The Roland JC40 is a solid state amp, so very quiet in comparison to the others in the list. I only was considering this because it has an incredible sounding chorus and is an otherwise perfect canvas for pedals, but the clean tone was bland and the drive couldn't compare to that of a tube amp. The standard Blues Jr IV sounds boxy and dark in comparison to the tweed, and the reverb tank is much more subtle. Although it has a good Fender clean tone, it is somehow lacking. The tweed is bright, really bright, but that is what I want. The reverb is killer. I imagine very few people will max it out, or even keep it above half-way, but I absolutely love to crank it up and get a super wet classic surf tone. Keeping the volume low and maxing out the master volume retains a good deal of clean chime without breaking too much, yet can begin to breakup if you have a heavy strum. Maxing out the (pre-amp) volume gives you a decent crunch, which only gets better as you turn up the master (Communication Breakdown sound). Yet, this gets LOUD, pushing beyond home use volumes. I am happy with my choice, but recommend you test your optionsRyan

The magic started as soon as I turned the amp on. This little amp has personality, with the retro look I felt as I had traveled to a time long past. This amplifier sounds great, it's actually loud, and the tones are nice and simple. I pair it with my favorite pedals, and I blast off to a whole other world of pure creativity. If you're wanting a classic sound to fiddle with, I highly recommend this beauty. I even purchased a cover for it since I was worried it would get dirty or our cat would treat it as a scratching post. It not very heavy or big and doesn't consume much electricity and is capable of being loud enough to bother your neighbors, since it's a very simple amp, you'll have to get your pedal collection ready. I hooked my crybaby and fuzz pedals and I swear I connected in some way with Hendrix himself. This little amp isn't just for blues or jazz, crank up the volume and you'll get some loud distortion. My only con would be that I wish it had a built-in spring reverb just like the BJrIV. but I already have 2 different pedals that do the job. Anyway, you'll spend hours just mixing and matching all your favorite pedals. Have fun players, this is a good one.Kevin

A lot of the reviews posted here are for Strats, so I'm not sure what's going on. Anyway, I bought the red sparkle Squier Bullet Tele. The finish is gorgeous and that's what prompted me to do a spontaneous purchase. I have only experienced owning USA Teles, but I've played some Squiers that really impressed me. This one? Not so much. I don't detect any finish on the back of the neck although I'm sure it has a sealer of some sort. The body finish is nice, but the bridge hardware is cheaply made and I'll be replacing that for sure. Same goes for the tuners. I'm pretty sure it has some high frets because it goes dead starting at the 10th fret, but some of that was back bow. I loosened the truss and got rid if it, but now when I sight down the neck the forward bow is pretty obvious. I don't notice the frets being sharp on the ends. It now plays plays pretty good after sitting long enough for the truss Rod to settle, but I may need to tighten it just a little to get rid of some of the forward bow. The neck has a very comfortable profile. The body is thinner than my American Teles, but it doesn't bother me – in fact it's lighter which I enjoy. The body is Poplar and that's fine by me. I may leave the back of the neck alone for now because it actually feels pretty good, aesthetics are certainly lacking, but the body makes up for that. I'm sure with a little patience and help from my friends I'll have a nice instrument. All the basics are there. As is, it's not all that great, but still better than my first electric guitar! -!an old Kalamazoo single pickup thing with a bolt on neck back in the mid sixties. Like the title says, this thing has potential. I probably couldn't buy a finished body for what I paid.Ronnie

I bought my black metallic Squier Bullet eight years ago when GC was having a Columbus Day sale. I was looking for a guitar to which I could permanently mount my Roland GR-33 guitar synth's GK2a pickup. Previously I had the pickup mounted on my '96 Strat, and I didn't like this fit because I couldn't close my Strat's case with the pickup installed. I have a gig bag for this Squier, and it fits fine in the bag with pickup installed. Anyway, about the guitar. Right out of the box, it played great, requiring only a minimal amount of action adjustment. I was surprised at how good the pickups sounded, it being a Bullet and all. But the humbucker sounds especially nice when playing the guitar through my Marshall. The neck pickup has a decent sound, but not quite up to the snuff of a good alnico pickup. Still, for what the guitar cost, I really can't complain. If I want to, at some later date, I can always change out the neck pickup to a better alnico model. One thing I especially like about this black Bullet is its looks. The photos here at GC don't show it off all that well, but the guitar body's finish is metallic and the pickguard is a heavy metal flake. It looks spectacular under the lights. And the black hardware does a great job of completing that black look. The Bullet's body is thinner than a typical Strat or Squier Affinity or Classic Vibe body. The result is a light weight guitar, but there is no sacrifice in tone.Michael

The fret ends were so sharp, when I say it was not playable (both sides/neck in its entirety), I mean, it was not playable (THE DATE OF INSPECTION WAS EARLIER THIS YEAR, AND I IMMEDIATELY ASSOCIATED THE FRET ENDS PROBLEM BEING DUE TO THE SHIPS BEING DELAYED/SITTING IN THE OCEAN/ETC- It looked to me like maybe between March and July of this year, although, I couldn't quite make out the stamped month). As well, the serial # of the guitar, of course, was of this year/'22. I maintain/work on most all my guitars, and I normally would've tightened up the fret ends myself, however, there was a hairline crack on the red sparkle finish at the bass side neck joint (which i just couldn't accept, visually), as well as a small tooling gash along the top edge of the headstock. The replacement/reordered guitar arrives tomorrow. 2. THE NEWER UNITS (AS, ONCE AGAIN, THIS IS A 2022-BUILT UNIT) ARE TOP-MOUNT/STRING THROUGH THE BACK OF THE BRIDGE, NOT "STRING-THRU" as the description indicates (and, with Squier bridge mounting, these are 5-screw mount plates, which, if ever you want to upgrade your hardware, particularly, w/the bridge, you must find an aftermarket unit that is "string through the back", along w/the correct string spacing (with Squier, they're 54mm, typically), and you'll typically need to redrill given it's rare to find plates that have Squier mounting dimensions that provided string through the back holes. I'm upgrading to a Babicz, given the results found. Also, there are two string trees (the second being a tree for both the D and G strings), and it looks great, actually, with both. Overall, I was impressed with the finish, as it was nearly flawless (aside from the hairline finish crack mentioned previously). The fretwire/fretwork, felt great….I found maybe two or so "slight" dead spots, which weren't enough of a "ping", or string buzz to be of concern, or critiquing the fretwork negatively. Rather, I was impressed with the fretwork. As well, it's important to note that the mounting of the bridge, along with the neck positioning/etc, was spot-on. No misalignment of the bridge mount/etc (and the same goes for the nut spacing). I've always been impressed with what Fender/Squier/Jackson are putting out. The quality is typically quite high…as for this unit, the quality is high, but the results of the environmental dilemma with either being stuck in a container offshore, or, sitting in a facility for weeks/months/etc, have had quite the impact on this guitar. As an important example, I had purchased a Bullet Tele last year (the unit in Burst color offered here through MF), and it was/is flawless, and I completely upgraded every part. As I own approx'ly 53 guitars ranging primarily from ESP to Jackson (some of which in the better than $2K range), I love to take what's titled as a "beginner" guitar, and totally hotrod it with high end parts (such is the case w/this guitar). As mentioned above, I've reordered the guitar, as MusiciansFriend provided me a generous discount (without having to ask) to accommodate me. Upgrades- 1. This little amp is quite amazing in sound and features. With the Guitar input, Aux In, and headphone jack it nails the features desired for practice. EQ/Gain control and volume can make a huge difference. I read the one critical review below about no bass or treble/AM radio sounding, etc…I don't get that? Probably doesn't understand the gain/vol/ and boost…or his was pre-owned and maybe had issues. Hey, if you're expecting the Fender tube sound of a Princeton or Vibrolux or Deluxe…get real, this is a 10 watt practice amp. Im really disappointed with this amp. I know its not supposed to be super loud because its only 10 W, but I was hoping that the sound quality would be better. The sound reproduction frequencies are all mid range. Sounds like cardboard. Color is grey. Bass and treble tones are all but nonexistent. The eq is useless because speaker cannot reproduce bass and treble frequencies. The sound is very cheap and does not give a representation of the Fender vibe whatsoever. You are better off just playing your guitar with no amplifier at all rather than using this, because it make a good guitar sound bad. I equate the sound to that of an a.m. transistor radio. Its really bad. I actually read some of the favorable reviews on this amplifier before I bought it, and Im seriously starting to think that none of those reviews are actually real. There are better practice amps with better fidelity out there, and I would avoid this one if your ear demands quality sound.mrmarksiii

I purchased the 68 CPR I believe about September 2017 and I also had a blues jr and ac10 at the time and wanted to add another flavor or what my mistake was to think I would have something closer to the traditional Fender sound. I noticed a few days later the control face plate was misaligned with a larger gap on the left side. I didn't get the floor model received one from backroom. To get right down to it this thing is incredibly dark and muddy. I kept mine and used it until February so I gave the amp and speaker time to open up. The bass knob is useless, 0 is like 6 on a 65 PRRI (I now own one). No matter what I threw at it single coils, filtertrons, p90, humbuckers, and teles. The neck pickups could be decent on the tele/strat, filtertrons, but sounded terrible on everything else. I own 20 guitars but maybe 15 at the time. Everything just sounded bloated I couldn't believe it and I using the "let the speaker break in and such" shot the return window. I'll never use that practice. If you don't like the sound of something a speaker breaking in is not going to cure it unless you think something is slightly off to your ears but not a miracle. I read a lot of bass heavy reviews on this all over the net with the random opposite opinion or right in the goldilocks zone. I even see them with greenbacks in them and man I cannot imagine how bass heavy that is on an already guitar amp that can take on a Fender Rumble. Yet.. I want to give it another shot but thinking more the deluxe as I have a better understanding of the build and amps in general. I just wanted to share my experience more than review. Everything else worked great tremolo and reverb but the faceplate was deplorable how that passed QC is beyond me having big gaps on each side and some noise from maybe the baffle or something but once the volume hit four you heard rattling. Still I will go play them in stores and if the one I play sounds good I'll buy it and not one from the back. I love Fender so I'll try..Gary G'nu

This amp is great. Unreal that anyone would say this is a negative purchase. If you need an amp with clean tones and good reverb this is exactly the one. I should mention that it takes pedals well which is great for such a light amp. I have played through many other in its class and this is second to none. After >50 years of playing, I've finally tired of lugging 45-65 lb amps to practice. I went to my local GC to check out smaller and low wattage amps. In my teens I had frequently played through my friend's Princeton Reverb (this was 1966…an original amp) and in fact we would both plug into it and I recall how great it sounded. I tried this 68 "whiteface" reissue and was blown away. Warm and fat sound even at low volume..with my Strat, Tele, LP, ES-335 and PRS CE 24…they all sound great. I bought it and I can't stop playing through it. I own a number of other great amps…Deluxe Reverb, Supro Dualtone, Orange TH-30, Marshall JTM 30. This amp, I think sounds better than any of them. As others have stated, extremely touch sensitive for those of you who appreciate how much of a tactile experience playing guitar can be. I predict it will be great for band practice and hope to use it in smaller venues. It works great with my effects pedals. I played a solid state boutique amp for years. It was a 100 watt Pearce amp, with a 2-12'' cabinet. As the great Amos Garrett once said, "The older you get, the smaller your amps get." I decided to go tube and purchased the '60s Fender Princeton and Delux Reverb re-makes. The '65 Delux Reverb remake is simply the best sounding amp I've ever played. I play classic rock, jazz, blues and some world music. It excels, and I mean excels, in every context. Warm, articulate and clean, and the break-up is just so silky. I had a '68 Super Reverb ($400 new back then!) which I sold back in the 1970's. Loved it! Big mistake parting with it (look what their selling for now!). I recently tried a Fender Champion 40. The Champ was a good amp, but just didn't match the tone and warmth of a tube amp. My '65 Deluxe Reverb is ear candy! Although it lacks the "horsepower" of the Super (my gig days are behind me now so I don't need it), it still has enough muscle to rattle your teeth and fill the room. More importantly it was instant smiles and fond memories the minute I fired it up! My Strat, '61 SG and Fender Acoustic (all from AMS!) lit it up! I couldn't be more pleased and impressed. Highly recommend the amp and AMS! Ordered Friday, arrived Sunday, and their payment plans make getting my gear from them simple, easy, affordable and a "no-brainer". Just a classic Fender tone. The clarify of the clean tone is outstanding. Can get a great crunch tone as well when you get the volume above about 4. I play a lot of styles and have a lot of amps. I think I still prefer my Marshall JVM for very saturated distorted tones, but have been having a ball trying different overdrive pedals with the amp–which it takes very well. If you are ok using pedals to craft different tones, this can be a very versatile amp for all styles.Robb

Just can't say enough good things about this amp. From the moment I plugged it in I was in tone heaven. Simply strummed a chord and just found myself listening amazed at what a good amp can do to bring out the tone of a guitar. Everything about the amp is just right. Great tone without having to shatter my eardrums. Simple tone controls that I honestly haven't had to really touch at all. Stellar reverb and very nice tremolo. I have used tremolo pedals and reverb pedals and there is no comparison to the real deal that this amp produces. Both channels are very useful, the custom channel takes pedals better for sure while the vintage channel just gives you a warm fuzzy feeling. I for sure plan to hook up an a/b switch so I can use both. Fit and finish were perfect and it came with a really nice dust cover. Only negatives I have found are that turning it off creates a loud pop. I researched and apparently it is normal and many say to turn the volume down and then power it off from the power switch rather than turning the standby off first which does make a difference. My understanding is that the standby is for turning the amp on to warm up for a minute or two, then turn the standby on and standby isn't for turning off. Also standby isn't for taking breaks though that is the urban legend. Only other negative is that I would prefer a pedal that either has lights on it to know if trem and reverb are on or some sort of light on the amp but since I pretty much always have reverb on and can clearly tell when the trem is on not a show stopper but would have been usefulmelodyguy

I brought into the hype and got the 68 deluxe. Not a bad amp, but not worth the money. Besides the noise issues and lack of a mid EQ you can't switch channels without an AB box. It's a nice sounding amp, but the Hot rod deluxe has more channels and headroom and the Blues deluxe is also a better sounding and useful amp. I would suggest doing a side by side comparison before buying.Mike Hickey

The 65 SRRI is a very interesting amp that I've had quite a good amount of experience with now, owning a total of 3 of the reissues, 1 from 2001 and 2 from 2017. In my estimation first and foremost, the amp is too loud. If using this for anything but LOUD outdoor/indoor shows, than you're wasting your time and money. The good qualities of this amp are that it handles treble frequencies unlike any way I've ever heard an amp before. Not to be cliche, but it can really only be experienced what "touch-sensitivity" means in this amp. It's a really weird experience because you hear things you don't normally hear, and they're pronounced really articulately. This in my opinion is why Texas Flood sounded the way it did, there's all these harmonics going on that aren't normally produced at low volumes, in a 1×12 cabinet. So now the negatives, this amp is not a jazz amp, it's not a metal or even high-gain amp. It's clean, it's loud, and that's how it works. The 10-inch speakers cut out alot of bottom end that 12 inch speakers give, so you get a very narrow, focused frequency range. I think the speakers themselves and the voicing of the amp in combination give you that sound, but nonetheless the amp doesn't lend itself to anything less than bright, tight, and focused. It doesn't sway from that sound no matter how you EQ it. How I used the amp was in my apartment and it's too loud, too specific of a sound, and is just a real problem unless you need both of the qualities mentioned. If you want loud, clean, and nothing else, this is your amp. I would recommend this product based on it's quality and sound, but only if the person who wanted it needed what it has to offer.Nathan

To preface… I've owned pretty much all the major Fender amps at one point or another. Blues Jrs, Blues Deluxe, Hot Rod Deluxe & Deville, Supersonic, 65 Deluxe Reverb, 65 Princeton, 65 Twin Reverb, 68 custom Princeton Twin & Deluxe and the buck stops here. This is currently the best sounding, most versatile amp that Fender makes, and probably the closest an amp has ever come to being perfect. If you're looking for the world's greatest clean tone/pedal platform/sublime breakup this is it. Period. Save yourself a bunch of money and time and just buy it. One and done. I had a friend recommend me this expensive/heavy beast of an amp years ago and I didn't listen.. turned off by the price and weight. I proceeded to own almost every other Fender but none of them lit me up inside like this one. The reverb is heaven, the tremolo is perfect, it sounds WONDERFUL at 2 on the volume for home practice and WONDERFUL at 3-4 for a gig. Yes it's awkward to carry, yes it's heavy-ish (altho not as much as the twin), but none of that matters because of the sound it produces. It will highlight your playing dynamics, and the true sound of your guitar like no other amp. It will inspire you to play more, it will make you play above your abilities, it gives back. It can handle any kind of music. It sounds great with any guitar you throw at it (although you absolutely must experience it with a strat). It's got tilt back legs which along with the vintage style slot tuners are probably Leo's greatest underappreciated inventions. Don't expect to get this bad boy to break up at home or smaller stage volumes, arm yourself with some good OD pedals. It produces an extremely loud, FULL, 3D sound which spreads across the stage. BONUS- a little known fact… the often neglected normal channel makes a fantastic bass amp. Just try it! Sound: I write and play original jazz, blues, country, and ballads mostly in various finger styles. All my guitars and all these of these musical styles sound better on this TM Deluxe than on any amp I've ever played through or heard. Features: This amp has every feature of the original, except the weight and the ever-flaky tubes. The only missing feature is an external speaker jack (although the onboard speaker is *much* better than boutique amps costing lots more money). Musicians drool over this amp. Then they pick it up. Then they decide to buy one. Ease of Use: Easy to get great sounds – no learning curve – as long as you're using a really good guitar. Each knob responds just like the original Deluxe, except that the reverb is usable (and interesting) right up to 10 (not true of any Fender tube reverb). Quality: Very good quality construction. With an XLR cable from its integrated direct interface, I plug it into the house Mackie 16-track mixer most Saturday mornings and play on a live radio show that's been going for over 30 years – I've played most Saturdays for the past 5 years. I owned a 1960s Vibrolux Reberb and a 1970s Twin Reverb for years – neither one sounded as good as this TM Deluxe – and both broke down every other show and weighed *way* too much. Every Saturday morning, I get warm compliments on the sound of this TM Deluxe from audience members and other musicians. It's well worth the money! All that beautiful tone and neither a tube nor a capacitor will every give out right at the start of your gig. I gave one of these as a birthday present to an old friend in Detroit this fall (youngest person ever inducted in the Hall of Fame by the Detroit Blues Society). He has a whole lot of amps in his studio, but the TM Deluxe is the only one that he's using anymore for recording and for gigs.Ira

I bought this amp a couple of weeks ago, we're still closed down for COVID 19 where I live so I haven't used it at club volume yet but judging from at-home tinkering, its got plenty of volume. I have a silver face deluxe reverb and a reissue to compare this to and really, I'm surprised at how accurately Fender reproduced that punchy sound that's unique to the deluxe reverb. They've added a couple of, shall we say, quirky features. It has a "mute" switch where the standby switch would normally be, even though there's no need for standby on a solid state amp. The mute switch feels flimsy compared to the power switch, I'll probably just leave that on all the time. Time will tell how it holds up. Even though Fender doesn't mention it in the literature, they've made a fake warm-up, as if the tubes were powering up, except there are no tubes. There is a 10 or 15 second delay between turning it on to sound coming out. I don't understand the reasoning behind the fake warm-up but OK, it doesn't hurt anything. The amp has 100 watts, it take more solid state watts to replicate the tube sound and performance and again, it really sounds a lot like the traditional tube amp. On the back panel is a sort-of power attenuator that's got six settings labeled from 0.2 watts to full / 22 watts. The labeling doesn't have anything to do with the actual power output, I guess it has to do with keeping the 22 watt tube vibe. The attenuator is actually quite useful. The lowest setting is great for in-home practice and the other settings are much louder but let it break up at lower volumes until you hit full power which sounds like it's louder and cleaner with more headroom than the tube versions. Overall, I'm happier with this purchase than I thought I'd be. The amp is light and easy to carry, no tubes to go bad in the middle of a gig, great practice amp and I expect it will perform well at club volume when and if we ever get back to that.Johnny Rockabilly

I bought this amp because my gig amp died a cyber twin 2-12s 100 watts that was about 16 years old. I have had many Fender amps they were great. I do country and 50s and 60s rock and roll. I figured 100 watts would put it out there and it does. At performing volume, the distortion is a pure heavy metal on the clean channel. Mine is not much good for high volume for my type of music. I have an old champion 110 75 watt that I will be using It has worked for me when the others were down. Not sure what to do.stev_majo

Great starter/practice amp. It gives a great tone for a great price. Gives some really great crunchy distorted tones for metal and rock. Also gives a great clean tone. It is a great amp. Very good sound and options for the price. It is not heavy which is a big deal to someone who has had back surgery. I gave it a 5 in spite of one big complaint. When you turn it off you hear a loud "POP!" Wow, is that loud is what I thought the first time I heard it. I read about it online and there is a simple fix. Find an old set of ear phones or ear buds that you would use on a cassette player or a Sony Walkman. (Yes, these are ancient electronic relics from the past for you younger people. You might ask your parents if they have a cassette player and borrow the ear plugs.) Just plug that earphone jack into the "PHONES" input BEFORE you turn it off. THEN you only hear a little blip when you turn it off. THEN just pull the jack out of the "PHONES" input before you start it next time.chasmigu

I first tried the Blues Junior which was nice but didn't have quite enough warmth and power behind it, I needed something more. I did my research and landed on this beautiful Princeton. It has everything that I was looking for. I am an experienced player but also prefer not to have a super complicated setup with switches and pedals and knobs; this Princeton keeps the focus solely on the tone and sound. Yes, there is a reverb knob which can add a little more, but I usually keep that off. What's great about getting an amp like this is you really get CLEAN, crisp open/clean channels and can really hear your axe sing. Because of that, it also allows your pedals to shine without being bogged down with too much of this or that, or in my opinion not having enough power behind the amplification. This is not a stadium amplifier, or strong enough for a concert hall. It is a great small amplifier for practicing when overwhelming volume will wake everyone in the house or start the neighbors complaining. It has great sound and dissolves any fuzz or squelch. The controls are easy to use and adjust with great range for such a small amp. I bought the amp for an inexpensive junior guitar (38") so i could practice and improve my skill after a 3 decade hiatus. I did not want to invest a lot of money only to find that I was no longer interested in really stepping out. It is perfect for me to relearn, and to sample some new music with an electric acoustic guitar. I made a very good choice, and recommend this amp if you want to practice on your front porch or in your living or rec room. The sound is incredible for a one ampere peak to peak amplifier. It's a novelty item I keep on my desktop. I can actually play my guitar through it, but it doesn't produce "good" tone. I collect mini amps and added this one to the shelf. I did plug it in and as expected, not much in the way of power or tone, but I had no expectations beyond looks. It is nicely detailed with corners, handle and grille with logos. It's is what it is. A detailed scale model of a Fender Amp. Fits perfectly into the collection. Not likely to plug it up again. Equally poor on AC or Battery. Rated 5 as collectible replica. Rated 1 as an amplifier. Hence the 3. Wouldn't recommend as a guitar amp.Mike

I had to make myself stop playing this Amp long enuf to write my review. This 30 watt 1 X 12 Celestion V30 Tube Stack simply Rocks my World! Bucket List item for me! Always wanted a Tube Stack with a creamy rich mid – range and a narly distortion channel. Foot switch turns reverb and overdrive on and off. 3 band EQ, 1/4" speaker cable. I love me some pedals and they blend well with this Amp. Quality build. Simply the best Amp my Guitars have played. Jazzmaster , Kramer and Mike Rowan all sound amazing. Very nice tones from this amp, clean or dirty! I have been using it mic’d with a 609 clone, haven’t had the chance to crank it yet. I use a roadhouse Strat and fine on the dirty channel with the gain at 5 I can get a great, clear cleanish tone, and then hit the Strats preamp and have some nice grit! Not fizzy fuzzy grit, but nice organic breakup that is very pleasing to the ear. I run a TC Plethora in the FX loop and get great results, no jump or drop in volume, just sounds natural. For some extra gain I use a Boss OD200 into the front of the amp, glorious!! Quite surprising that an amp of this build and sound quality is available at this price point but it is and I’m glad I pulled the trigger on it. Looks to be plywood for amp cab and speaker cab, nice touch. All this and a V30 speaker! I don’t know when or if the speaker will “break in” but I’ll be using the amp mic’d most of the time so it may take awhile, and honestly couldn’t imagine it sounding any better! Only had it a few days, and haven’t moved it since I set it up so I can’t speak for how long it will last in the long run, but fingers are crossed.Ronald

Just received my stack on 3/16/20. Packaged great!. Overall build quality is very very good no particle board here all real solid wood cabinet for the head , speaker with a nice ply baffle I think it's 3/4 ". Light weight. Asthetics ,cosmetics tolex and Grill cloth with piping perfect. Reverb is digital no tank or Springs here it is not tube driven. Bright switch works great pedal for Reverb and gain Channel works great extra-long cable to connect the head to the cabinet with power cord great. Clean tones on this amp whether a low or hi channel are amazing . kind of somewhere between vox/ marshall cleans. Definitely Fender sounding w bright switch. Gig Worthy!. Loud amp!. Digital Reverb is okay. You must turn it up to around 4 or 5 to hear it. It's clean channels are where this amp shines . On the gain channel, Ican get some good tones but not super high gain here more in the classic rock 1960- 1970's tone. Great but no super High gain. Kinda on the thinner side, Not very Fat. 3 chinese 12ax7, ( maybe a swap out in this area may give better tone), all 4 el84 Are Eurotube JJ'S!!!! So happy to see this. Celestion V30 spkr cab sounds great, full with depth. Classic rock tone!. Highly recommended..strange looking chinese power tnsfrmr, but Ot looks good. Voiced similiar to monoprice. 15 watt duel el84 model, but not as aggressive. Blows away the Bulgara V22.. Etc. Nice product monoprice!New User
