Fender American Standard Guitar For Sale (2024 Update)

Overall: Always wanted a Nashville Tele but several things were stopping me from buying it. I could have made some mods myself but that kind of defeats the purpose of a new guitar. No bridge + neck pickup option was a biggie.No locking tuners. All my guitars have locking tuners. 3 saddles instead of 6 individual. I just prefer the 6 even for a Tele.No noiseless pickups. Now they've also done a couple of things I wasn't necessarily looking for but are nice addition. The rolled fingerboard edges are a really nice touch as well as the belly cut. Again, not expected but very nice additions especially since I can roll my own fingerboards but have never attempted my own belly cut on a Tele and probably wouldn't but they are really nice on my G&L's. For the not so great stuff. The neck had entirely too much relief in it but this was rectified with a truss rod adjustment. I did have to do a fret level, crown and polish. The guitar also had a bit of fret sprout and some sharp ends. I easily fixed these issues but would understand others might have to take it to their local tech for a fret job. After a little work on my part the guitar plays wonderfully. The neck is really comfortable. This is every bit as good a guitar as the US produced Fender's I have played recently. The sounds are exactly what you would and should expect from a Nashville Tele. Overall, this is a very well made guitar. Played 4 gigs with it over the New Year break and I gotta say, this is probably going to be right there onstage with my EBMM's. No, it's not as good as my Cutlass and LIII's but it doesn't need to be. I think this guitar is a great bargain and I'm pretty picky. Fender finally got the Nashville Tele right. What a absolutely beautiful instrument. I got mine surf green and the online pictures don't do it justice. Guitar arrived flawless and played great out of the box. Action seemed a little higher than I like, but still plays great with the vintage frets to my surprise. Definitely has that telecaster sound with very nice cleans and twang. Also hitting it with a tube screamer or distortion pedal it has a snarl. Playing through a PRRI, 78 SFDR and 67 Vibro Champ. The C shaped neck does seem slightly beefier than other C shapes on my AVRI strats, but I find it just as comfortable and a nice difference. Clay inlays look really good on the rosewood neck also. There is also a tint to the neck that's more than what was on the previous line of AVRI guitars but I think it looks good.Don

This telecaster is legendary. First, the noiseless pickups immediately distinguish this tele from others and result in ZERO hum and stays that way on all pickups. Second, the C-shape fretboard design makes for effortless phrasing. Third, this guitar is impressively light (much more so than my strat) and is therefore my go-to guitar for gigging. And I should add the unique color configuration makes this tele stand out from the rest. Apparently "Aged Candle Apple Red" is Fender's own thing. Finally, I should note that I run this guitar through my Marshall DSL40CR. The combination makes for great depth and a fullness that rivals my strat — including on clean tones. I'm very happy with this purchase and highly recommend it to anyone seeking a compliment to their rig (particularly if you have a strat and want to expand the universe of sounds).Chad the Bad

I honestly feel that the Jeff Beck Stratocaster is the best value guitar that Fender offers today. For just a couple hundred dollars more than an American Professional Stratocaster you get an upgraded, hot rodded, American made Stratocaster second to none! Anyone that knows the history of the Jeff Beck Signature Stratocaster knows that it inspired the Stratocaster Plus of the late 1980s. Roller nut, locking tuners, cutaway heel, noiseless pickups, tweed hardshell case, and American made for just a little more than the American Pro?! Duh! Despite all the upgraded "value" I keep going on about, the Jeff Beck Signature Stratocaster plays great! My model needed slight tuning straight out of the box but the action and intonation was perfect. Remember, these are standard production line guitars, not Custom Shop pieces. Whoever is doing the assembly and final setup of these guitars really takes pride in their work! I highly recommend this guitar regardless of your opinion of Jeff Beck. Jeff Beck happens to be my favorite guitar player and I always wanted a white Stratocaster with a rosewood fingerboard like the one he plays and was on the cover of the Wired album. This is the first Signature guitar I have ever bought and I could not be happier.Ty

I'm not employed by Fender, have many terrific guitars from Gibson, Fender, Martin – most US, some Fender made in Mexico which are nice playing, quality instruments. They all need their tweaks here and there to get to your personal level of playability and satisfaction. As for Telecasters, currently have 3 including this new one in Miami Blue (we'll get to that in a moment) and this is hands down, the absolute best Telecaster I've ever played or owned. It is SO comfortable – out of the case (which is a new style and impressive on its own merit) was flawless. Put a strap on, tuned and felt something odd – nice lightweight alder, it felt different, smaller, more comfortable . . . it's the same size of course but the edges of the body are more rounded than the typical hard flat Tele body I've been familiar with for so long. The neck heel is contoured, the fretboard edges are rolled and fret wire are like butter! Pickups and push button which activates both pickups in series make the tone range so wide. Very impressed to say the least. Now, the Miami blue shown in stock photos here and elsewhere looks much lighter and brighter than in person. The actual color is darker with a greenish tint to it. Either way, the guitar is not going anywhere but would like you to be aware and search for pics on Google until you see or have a grasp of what the range of photos capture. It's not a traditional Fender color but looks fantastic – I know you will not be disappointed.PJ

In my previous review I stated that four saddles kill tone… but I meant six saddles. Four have way better sustain, brightness, and punch… but less adjustable for intonation. Six saddles on the American professional II killed the tone. For that reason the performer sounds way better, plus the push push option just sounds muddy… not worth the added cost except sounds decent for gain on the middle position. The neck on both the professional II and performer are both great it just comes down to personal taste on thickness. I have the performer, a Classic Vibe, and just bought the professional II. Returning the professional II and keeping my others that I think sound quite a bit better for clean playing. But the professional II is very well but and sounds good… just not as good… again probably because of the six saddles…or wimpy sounding pickups… I'm not sure why. But still a very well made guitar… just try them all before buying…Thad

There's no such thing as a perfect guitar and because of that I don't like to give 5 stars in any review but this Telecaster is exceptional. I own 20+ guitars including high end Strats, Les Paul customs, a Lucille and an outstanding USA made vintage Gretsch. I love all those instruments but this Telecaster is something special. It's the most versatile guitar I own. This Telecaster can play as sweet or as nasty twangy as you want. It can do any genre with style. This telecaster is the only instrument I've ever owned that didn't need any adjustment after purchase. It came out of the box in absolutely perfect intonation. There were No sharp fret ends like on cheaper models and the action was perfect. I couldn't find any imperfections anywhere. The neck is smooth as butter, slick and fast, very nice. The V-Mod pickups are outstanding, with all the punch you would ever need. I also like the angle molded heel cut where the neck meets the body. All I did was put on a new set of Fender Bullet 9-42s and she was ready to go. I can't recommend this guitar highly enough if you need or want an exceptional Telecaster. I've played virtually all the other models and brands of the Tele and while some of those were excellent guitars, some were cheaper, some more expensive but none were as good as this version of the Telecaster in my opinion. It's just an outstanding guitar. I'm thinking about buying another one for my son because he won't leave mine alone. You need to play it through a good tube amp to get the most out of it but it still sounds great out of lesser amps like say a Fender Champion 100. I use a tube screamer pedal and a vintage tube Fender Reverb and vintage Gibson tube Dual medalist amps mostly. This Tele still sounds very good even when using some of my digital practice amps. I can't find anything wrong with this guitar. I just wish that I had found it sooner.Dennie

I have wanted an American made Strat for the longest. Not just any American Strat, but The One built to my specs from the looks right down to the pots and of course the feel and sustain. This is it and AMS made it easy and in reach just as they've helped me to make other musical dreams to come true! This guitar feels great, sounds amazing, beyond my hopes & expectations, and even the price tag was a pleasant surprise! Tech has come a long way, but in a lot of ways we've lost craftsmanship. Well, not out of Corona California. Crisp tones, nuanced variation, and that wonderful Fender sustain! I have some other expensive guitars, which I love, but at under their price point the Professional II is going to be a close lifetime friend. If you are looking at these and don't need boutique trimming of the Ultra line or the royal treatment of the Custom Shop, look no further and pay no more. Strat-Halla is right here at a reasonable price point for a heritage worthy instrument. I won't waste time going over the specs. It's all here. Get acquainted with your new best friend!Pete

This is my second American Stratocaster. My first is from 2007 and it has a rosewood fretboard. I wanted a maple neck strat as well. I bought the Miami blue version and love it. To me, Strats are each very unique in the way they play and sound. My other Strat has Dimarzio Area pickups in it (which I love), so I’m having to get used to the stock single coils. I love the bridge, but to my ears the neck pickup it too muddy. The trem system is good, and the overall construction is good. I had to re set it up because I use heavier strings. I may end up changing pickups before it’s all said and done. Only time will tell. I wish Fender would have put Locking tuners on from factory! That’s a must for me.Justin

I purchased this guitar about 3 weeks ago (working with Zach), it has quickly become my favorite guitar I own. The full rosewood neck is incredibly smooth and the the deep C shape is extremely comfortable. I mostly play through a Helix Stomp and have been really happy with the sound and tone variability I can get with it using the various pickup selections especially with the push/push for adding the top pickup to the mix for positions 1 and 2. The pictures in the listing look great, but it looks much better in person. The pictures have a lot of light which makes the blue appear lighter than it would in a normal room. The picture where the guitar is positioned in the case is a great representation of the color in a normally lit room.Kevin

I have twenty Fenders, including seven telecasters, and this is better than all of them. The neck feels like its been played for years, and the shape is perfect. Heavy rolled edges make it a pleasure to play with my thumb over the neck. First guitar I have bought that I had to raise the action slightly on the top two strings. Set up for fast playing or chords straight out of the case. The colour is sparkly brownish, but looks black in most light. Very well made guitar. The pickups are noiseless and are silent even with pedals. They sound like standard pickups, no loss of signal because of the extra windings for the noise cancellation. Sound fine. I must say, the pro 1 series pickups sound better. All in all a lovely instrument, well worth the extra few quid.STEVEN T.

Overall: I have an Ultra Strat in Cobra Blue, an Ultra Jazz Bass in Texas Tea, a Les Paul Standard Gold Top and other guitars. This has the most beautiful finish (Sunburst). Way better than the picture or videos. The tone is amazing. Light weight at 6.2 pounds. Officially my favorite guitar. Add to that they shipped it to me in 25 hours after promising 5 days. Ordered Monday noon and here it is. They had it in a warehouse near Reno and I got it next day. zZounds you ROCK.William

The Fender Ultra Telecaster Texas Tea is an amazing guitar, at first I noticed the D-Shape neck and quickly adapted to it. The neck feels silky smooth, hand glides over frets and is easy to play. The sound from pickups are brutally brilliant, and wit the S1 switch built into the tone knob, sends a slightly different signal, bit more gain with full richness depending on the selector position of course. I went initially seeking for the Jimmy Page Dragon Guitar and walk out of the shop with this Ultra instead, and for the few hundred dollars more, this guitar is totally worth it. The look of it is killer, and so classy – if there is an ultra guitar series in your guitar shop locally, don't hesitate to pick it up and test it out. This guitar is HOT! It's difficult to see in these photos but the colour under certain light angles are different and has small sparkling metallic substances mixed in with the colour. It's a black oily dark grey/brown. The neck has a vintage tone colour and the rosewood neck and skunk stripe just makes this guitar special.Jim T.

My brand-new red Tele arrived in perfect condition, set up and ready to play right out of the box. Nice black case too. I would have never bought one except for the fact I fell on the neck of my old one and busted up the headstock pretty good. Soo… I had a bit of money lying around so I thought I'd see what Fender has been up to the last 50 years. I was tempted to by a cheaper model, but, the caveat "you get what you pay for" is always a loud voice in my head. I love the finish on the blonde neck.. soft as satin on the back. I forgot what it's like to play with actual working frets.. feels nice and is easier to get around on the neck. Pickups sound great and aren't a bit noisy. The guitar cord socket is quite stiff, perhaps that'll keep me from pulling out the plug on gigs. The intonation was dead on from the factory. I haven't played live yet so I'm not sure if this guitar has the same country twang as my old one.. we'll see. So far in practice it sounds great. The one downside to me is the weight. This guitar is about 8.5lb, where my old one is 6.5. That's a big difference. I bought a new wide strap to help with that. There's a bit of string buzz on the open D, but I suppose all Teles have a bit of that. I'm not concerned. Fender has done an amazing job on this model. The fit and finish are beautiful and I just love looking at it! I think my audiences will like it too.2oldman

Its always personal but it felt natural right away. The action came slightly high but I like the way it sounds. I just might keep that way. The rosewood finger boards takes out the piercing sound that a strat makes. HSS configuration is wonder. I never liked a single coil at the bridge, the humbucker which sounds great takes the guitar to another level. So far I am not hear any reason to change the pick ups. No regrets. For all you Fender people like myself it's a must.Please no Nicknames

I am a tele convert. This guitar is perfect in every way for me. The sound is simply wonderful, its comfortable and relatively lightweight too, couldn't ask for more. These pick ups are about as perfect a sound as I would wish to have in a guitar The neck pick up is smooth & mellow and the broadcaster in the bridge has a ton of kick, power and grind. almost as much as a humbucker, so much so that it drives my Marshall JVM combo just wonderfully and I play most styles from light easy listening stuff through to classic & heavy rock. I had a 2013 Mexican tele before this. This is a huge upgrade in feel and tone I feel, its fairly light and the body cut means its very comfortable. Mine has a rosewood fingerboard which I prefer, the neck carve is just the right size for my hands and it plays fast and effortlessly with nice low action.Tele Player

After playing this guitar I was a little bit disappointed that it did not play a whole lot better than my 1996, 2009, 2011 Mexican Strats which all play good. If you are economy minded buy a Mexican Strat & upgrade the pickups to suit you & you'll be money ahead.dixiedarter2011

I got a good deal from Musician's Friend and 4 days later I had the guitar in my hand. I thought my LP was a beauty, this is a beauty. The finish was superb. Some don't like a channel bound neck but I do, the neck is so smooth, my hand just glides up and down the neck. The compound radius neck makes playing chords in the lower end great and soloing in the dusty end fantastic (the dusty end where we don't like to go sometime). The fat 50's, whats not to like. The 5 way switching give out numerous sounds to work with. I look forward to many hours playing this welcome addition and anyone wanting a strat will not be disappointed if they decide to pick this one.South Paw

Great guitar and an amazing value. My Olympic White Strat came in tune and intonated. There was one fret that was a few milimeters higher than others (only noticed because I dropped the action lower), took a minute to set up and then she was a dream. I own several American Teles, Strats, and Gibson Les Paul's, this is (with my head down) my first Mexican made Fender. I'm not gonna lie, it's darn good! The big thing on this guitar, and why it's a little more pricey than the typical Mexican Strat is that the electronics are flat out better. Vintage Noiseless pickups sing through my Blues Jr., and sound just plain mean through my AC15. I'm not one that adds guitars to my arsenal often, but I played this one a few times before pulling the trigger and each time I was reminded about the fact that a good guitar is a good guitar. The S1 boost button is cool, nice and hidden so it isn't annoying or takes away from the normal look of a strat. The finish on the neck is great (more of a satin finish versus a high gloss) – this is a plus in my opinion as it feels more like my higher end American guitars. A real treat to play and will join me in the road this summer.John

I took up the guitar in the 70's and played casually for about 25 years, before life got in the way and it fell by the wayside. Last year I decided to pick it back up and go with a decent quality electric, rather than an acoustic this time around. I've always loved the Stratocaster sound, so I perused the options before deciding on the Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster. The ability get so many different sounds in one package was the deciding factor, along with the price point. I have to say the quality of this particular instrument was surprisingly good to me. The forums make it sound like "Made in Mexico" guarantees you're getting a piece of junk. This couldn't be further from the truth. The fit and finish of this guitar is every bit as good, if not better, as the American-made 1978 Telecaster Deluxe I had in high school. Set-up was good right out of the box. The action is light and low and the tone is classically Strat. If you're not hung up on getting a US-made instrument, try the MIM models. Great quality at a great price.Dave in Edmonds

First impression is that this is a quality instrument, it feels very solid and well-crafted. No sharp fret ends or any other flaws (except for a fair amount of debris under the pickguard). It's hard to beat the classic combination of Alder, Maple and Rosewood for a sound that rings out loudly unplugged. I debated between the Vintera, Squier CV and the Performer models because these are the current vibrato-equipped Mustangs – in the end, the new and improved vibrato sold me on the Performer. I bought the Vintage White (butter-colored) and it weighs 7.7 lbs – I've seen this model as low in weight as 7.1 lbs. If the Sonic blue had competition stripes, that would have been my favorite. Out of the box, the setup was perfect (though I did put in a Stew Mac .25 neck shim to raise the bridge some – action-wise, it didn't need the shim, but helps with the trem action), and the urethane off-gassing potent. The Mustang, being on back-order for so long (I waited 3 months from order date), was probably just assembled when I received it on 12/7/21 (August and October '21 production dates are seen in the photo of neck pocket and neck heel). Besides being the only US production-run Mustang, it has the aforementioned revised vibrato – which is super smooth and stays in tune very well. [I did put on a set of locking tuners I had on hand, but I'm sure the stock ones are fine, too.] The obvious welcome revision is the nylon arm sleeve that replaces the screw-in type; it holds the arm in place at any angle. As well, the Performer body has a new rectangular rout, and larger spring routing, under under the tremolo (so, not interchangeable with a vintage unit or guitar without modification) – accommodating a metal plate that reinforces the fulcrum point of the two spring-tethered vibrato posts. This plate is attached with 3 larger screws on the face of the vibrato, giving it a slightly different look from the vintage Mustang vibrato/tremolo.The Fender script is also gone, maybe giving the initial appearance of a plain, cheaper import trem unit? Once removed from the body, the new vibrato feels heavy and substantial. The electronics are interesting – the spirit of the Mustang tone-control quirkiness lives on in the new Performer series Mustang. As a pickup set, they're well-matched and mine register 8k ohms for the neck pickup and 8.5k ohms for the bridge. Unlike a typical tone control that makes the guitar sound increasingly bassy as you roll off the treble, the Greasebucket circuit makes the pickups sound fuller as you roll the tone back – you're not losing the top-end until the very end of the tone range, like on 2. On 10, with the treble all the way up, the sound is very thin (maybe a substitute for the out-of-phase position found on a traditional Mustang?), and can be harsh if the volume knob is also all the way up – rolling the volume back to 8 will clean up the pick-ups. String attack is pronounced with the Yosemite set. The guitar sounds best with the tone rolled back 3/4's of the way, especially the bridge, imo – that's unusual and it gives the pickups a unique character and full sound, or not, depending how you set the tone circuit – from thinner to fuller is really the tonal range of the control set. Therefore, you might not get the immediate sonic versatility of a Strat or Tele (or, vintage-wired Mustang), but you do get cool sound-shaping controls that function differently compared to a normally wired guitar. As well, the Mustang has a more compact and intimate playing area, and with the very responsive vibrato that stays in tune, it's a lot of fun to play. The modern neck with its c-shape, 9.5" radius, medium jumbo frets and satin finish – will be easy to play for lots of different styles of music. String tension is pretty elastic, but still I'm fine with the 9's it comes with (it's what I normally use) as they work well with the spring setting of the trem – mine is set for the least amount of spring tension from the factory. I would imagine as you go up in string gauge you would want to take off the vibrato unit and move the spring position up 1 or 2 spots on the post. **I appreciate the included – made in Vietnam, embroidered Fender logo – light-duty – deluxe gig bag. There aren't a lot of short-scale case options out there and it fits this guitar perfectly, though not a super lot of protection. In the end, Fender has reimagined many aspects of the Mustang: upgraded vibrato; new electronics; medium-jumbo frets; satin finish neck. And, as an American made instrument it retains the traditional Rosewood fretboard, another plus (mine was dry and needed conditioning – to be expected from the fret install process and clean-up). I'm very pleased with this US produced guitar and the way it sounds, plays, feels – and looks!Jon

I was looking for an American-made Mustang and came across the American Performer series. I purchased the antique white version. It's more of a buttercream yellow than white. I was really surprised by the quality because I'd only previously played MIM models that weren't always great. The tremolo tail piece is different than the Strat and Jazzmaster systems. It's very sensitive and has incredible range. I see why some like to block it up because it bends at the slightest touch, but it works very well and stays in tune for the most part. Sound is great, both clean and crunch – it's very versatile. It's also very light and manageable. It's becoming one of my favorite guitars and I have an American Pro Jazzmaster, a MIM Tele, MIK Esquire, and a Gibson 335. My only quality gripe is the frets are a bit rough on the edges. I like the jumbos, but seems like they need a bit more smoothing over. Other than that the setup was great out of the box, tuners are great, and I like the greasebucket tone.Rojo

instrument looks and feels great. Neck, frets and body are gorgeous. However the finish elsewhere is not so good. Some tailpiece screws were only halfway in! The springs on the vibrato keep falling off the posts necessitating constant complete removal of the unit to re-attach them. This means loosening all the strings which are now knackered after about the fifth attempt to make it all work. The action is diabolical with frets buzzing on E A and D strings below the 12th fret. Adjusting the bridge means once again loosening strings and messing with the vibrato, which then drops it’s springs… The frustration level is very, very high. I bought this in the silver metal flake which is absolutely gorgeous! The center pickup tone is pure Strat. Combinations of that with the two humbuckers is just beautiful – I never want to put it down once I start to play it. The action is fast and your hand just glides up and down the neck. If you want an excellent Strat without breaking the bank, this guitar is the answer. If you have been dreaming of a Strat, dream no more and buy this!! I really like this product, I got it in the Tobacco Sunburst color. I think it has an elegant design & a great sound. It works best with a Fender Amplifier. I broke my own rule on this one. I ordered without trying. All my other guitars I've bought after spending a couple of hours in a guitar shop. I wanted a Strat with HB's. The Mexican has been a nice surprise. It plays well, has excellent quack and the treble and bass pickups are clear and not too hot. There's a slight dip in volume in positions two and four, but not a problem. It is a flexible sounding guitar. I've had it about two months now. Love my Original 50s Strat…however this one being auctioned is a partscaster. It has a non-original pickguard and possibly body as well, perhaps not even Fender. The only part that is an American Original 50s Stratocaster is the neck.fl749269

I love this guitar. For somebody who knows from the past what a cheap and nasty guitar is I really feel proud to finally own an American made Vintage Stratocaster. I will leave it to those who know more about the anatomy of guitars to define the differences between a vintage Stratocaster and a modern Stratocaster though I think it is mainly in the overall neck dimensions and slightly concave fretboard of the vintage Stratocaster which makes playing bar chords a whole lot easier though the real 'string benders' might find it not to their liking on both E strings which can slip a bit. The tonal quality of the vintage stratocaster is also a little cooler than the modern Stratocaster. Being a non professional player who is very much into playing the great guitar songs of the 1960's surf era I love the playability and tone of the guitar. The vintage 1950's hard case is also a quality and eye catching item.Graham G.

This beautiful guitar is a slice of rock & roll history. It takes the classic sounds of the 50's and puts them into an astoundingly playable guitar. The soft V neck is a dream to play, it offers just the perfect amount of grip and comfort needed to make a perfect neck. Pro – Great sounding pickups, wouldn't change a thing. It is really easy to get all of vintage Strat sounds you want out of this. Pro – Really well made. Pro – The neck profile is a lot closer feeling to that era Strat then Fenders previous reissues of this guitar. Pro – It has the 5 way pickup switch as opposed to the three way that was on the original. Much better option. Pro/Con – (Con) Having to pull the neck off to adjust it is a drag. (Pro) To be fair it is like that on the originals and as such needs to be like that to be an accurate reproduction. Con – The setup out of the box was pretty bad. Not a problem, but if you don't do your own setups factor it in as an additional cost. Con – I could not get the stock tuners that came on it to stay in tune for long. I kept having to retune it. I replaced them with some vintage replica locking tuners (like the ones that come stock on the Vintera 50's modified) and it is now perfect. To be fair the tuners are meant to be replicas of the vintage ones so if you are used to guitars with higher end tuners this will through you off. Again just consider it an additional cost if it bugs you. With the locking tuners and a set up this guitar plays and sounds great. I would recommend it if you are looking for class Strat tones.Included pics of stock -vs- locking tuners, it does not really take much away from the look and makes the tuning much more stable. I’m no stranger to custom shop strats. No, it doesn’t have the nitro smell or the perfectly rolled edges, but this is one spectacular guitar. First impressions out of the box, it felt really nice in my hands, kind of similar to the deluxe Lone Star Strat I used to own, but the neck on this one is a lot more comfortable to me. I couldn’t find any flaws in the finish or the fretboard and frets. And best of all is how this guitar resonates, it’s deep and soulful when unplugged. Plugged in it sounds just like a strat should. I see no reason to change the pickups. The setup was a little off. A minor truss rod tweak and trem spring adjustment were all it really needed. I always put .10’a on anyway. The fret ends were nice and smooth and the fingerboard edges, while not “rolled,” felt rounded and smooth regardless. It really does feel like a high end USA made instrument. I was worried about the lighter brown colored Pau Ferro, but it really looks fantastic on this guitar. Also, the mint green pickguard is much greener than the photos and matches really well. Also the tint on the headstock and neck is perfect. It’s nice and dark but not too dark. It’s just right to make it look old and classy. The fretboard was very dry, though and a bit of oiling really brought out the grain and made it look a bit darker and much nicer. The ice blue is a nice color but it’s kind of weird. Almost looks green in certain lighting. The vintage frets are not for everyone but I absolutely love them. Also the radius is just fine, no fret-outs anywhere like everyone tries to tell you. I can see why most people would want the modified version if you’re a speed demon, but if you like a luxurious and smooth feel, you can’t go wrong with this one.Michael R.

I've played a lot of Stratocasters and this is the best vintage feeling guitar I have ever played. For being vintage I have no fretting out and the neck plays smooth and fast for me. I don't understand the complaints about this guitar, if your into a modern thin uncomfortable c shape and hum buckets or noiseless pick ups with jumbo frets that go out of intonation with hardly any wear than this isn't for you. If your looking for the absolute best bang for your buck that fender has ever produced than this guitar is for you. I've played American strats and deluxe and I don't like where my creative mind goes. You really get the authentic feel of what a Stratocaster is. Only recommendations I have as far as upgrading would be electronics. 65's would fit this guitar perfectly. But if your playing clean tones alot then the clean tones on this guitar are beautiful. My teacher set this up at practice and declared it one of the best Strats he has ever played and he owns 4. He loved the neck, pickups, tone. From a distance it looks OK but up close the finish appears to have been heated and put in a freezer. The finish fracture is worse up close with thousand of spider web, broken glass specs which could not be photographed. Sounds amazing but I prefer NOS.William

All right… First, I have to thank Brad at Musicians Friend for seeing this purchase thru, for me obtaining a true Time Machine. In 1958, I would have been 9 years old, but I was already listening to Rock and Roll music on the AM radio, here in the San Francisco Bay Area(KEWB). If my parents would have given me this guitar, I know I would still have it, and now I do. I'm not a big lead player, so, I'm content to be the rhythm guy in the band. Not a problem. This guitar is Aztec Gold, but the Custom Shop aged it to Perfection. When I hold it, and play thru my Bassman Re-Issue, my mind goes now where no other guitar in my Collection can take me. I've noticed that there aren't too many reviews on these high-end axes because maybe their minds are blown by how good they feel, or they're too busy jammin' to write a review. I don't know. But this I do know, these Relics, from 50-odd years ago, will get you thinkin' about what your life would have been like IF you had one in Grade School, and how your life would have changed. Just a note: Leo Fender started making the Esquire when I was born, so maybe I feel like I'm in a parallel universe with the solid body guitar in California. So, if you think you can afford one of these Relics, pick a year, and get one that you like from the looks, and I think you'll be on your way to a totally different place when you plug in…..Hope this helps.John out by the Golden Gate Brid

Guitar arrived quickly and double boxed as a guitar off this level should be. As I tuned it up I noticed that the bridge was pulling way up, like it was never tightened to where it should be for a playable set up. So I looked down the neck and saw that the low E side appears to have more relief than the high e side, such a let down.. The nut was cut just enough to hold strings. Due to that poorly cut nut, strings.were really far from first fret So even though I already wasn't going to keep it, I plugged it in and WoW! This strat has just enough glass in the highs and still has grunt with a little drive. I'm not sure how it does both, but despite how poorly it played, it sounds incredible! If the neck wasn't twisted and it had even a decent set up, I would keep this guitar forever.D

Sound: The vintage tone noiseless pickups are perfect for what I wanna play on this guitar. All my other are humbuckers, high gain passive and active humbuckers at that, so the vintage tone single coils give me that sound I simply cannot get from my other guitars. Granted, my other guitars have split coil options, but there is a noticeable difference between a split humbucker and a noiseless single coil. Features: The S1 switch serves me no purpose, just turns the tone into mud. Ease of Use: It's not rocket science, but I'm used to 3way pickup selectors, and an all or almost nothing attitude when it comes to my other guitars volume controls, and never touch the tone controls, so for me personally there is a learning curve when it comes to all the tonal possibilities that come with a typical Strat setup.If I could change one thing on the guitar, it would be using 6100 jumbo frets, but generally speaking the guitar is a breeze to play, after a day or so… It's very stiff out of the box.The tremolo has a very nice feel to it, and the pop in arm should be standard on all trems at this point. Quality: The guitar is very well made. This is a professional guitar! Value: This is where my issue is… I just can't see how this guitar is worth $400 more than the Professional series. With everything being made on CNC machines, that little contour on the cutaway and the compound radius fingerboard seem like an unjustified mark up, the only thing on this guitar that should be a logical price mark up are the locking tuners and the pickups, neither of which equate to $400 in parts… But I liked the finishes more, and didn't feel like swapping out tuners and bridge saddles. Manufacturer Support: Never had to deal with Fender customer service. Overall: This guitar is a purists nightmare, but it's a dream to me. Compound radius fingerboard and satin neck finish are up my alley.Rob

First things first, the manager and the guys at Guitar Center in Pensacola were very helpful. About 3 weeks ago I bought the Plus Top Stratocaster and I loved the guitar but wanted to upgrade to the Ultra so I started shopping around for one and found one at a different music store down the street for a significantly lower price than what was advertised at the local Guitar Center. So I figured I would have to return my guitar to the store. When I got there I asked about the price match guarantee that Guitar Center provides and I brought it up to them that I found the Cobra Blue Ultra guitar at a lower price at another store and after a few minutes and the manager doing some research he pretty much told me " if you're are going to buy this guitar, I would rather you buy it from us " I was very surprised. In my mind I thinking that he was going to come up with some sort of excuse to not match the price. That is what customer service is all about!!!! Middle finger to other stores! From here on out I am a lifelong customer of Guitar Center. Oh and this guitar is the best of the best!! It's like being handed the keys to a brand new Corvette ( or a Ford Cobra, whichever you prefer). So, hands down the best guitar and the best customer service you could ask for!! I'm already looking forward to getting an Ultra Tele this year!Steve
