The built-in tuner is what every guitar needs. the 12-volt battery compartment is easily successible at the plug-input port — no more cramping your hand to reach past the strings inside the tone-hole. The intonation is perfect, with no fret buzz all the way up the neck. Most impressive is the volume! This acoustic bass holds its own even without amplification. Add an amp and the built-in tone controls and you have a great electric bass as well. The black lacquer throughout gives the Fender CB-60SCE a classic look. I recently started playing bass guitar. My 12 yr old daughter plays the acoustic guitar, and my wife plays the harp. I chose an acoustic electric bass as my starter so we could all play together and have better cohesion and continuity in our sound in addition to the simplicity and flexibility an acoustic electric bass gives for playing/practicing. I am able to practice quietly, and it is extremely portable and very playable just about anywhere. I did some research and chose this one as "the one" to start on and very glad I did. The quality is outstanding, the sound is beautiful, and i just outright enjoy playing it. Plus I got it in black and love the look of it. I am very happy with this bass. This bass is perfect for just grabbing off the stand and playing whenever the mood strikes me, practicing while everyone else is sleeping (without need of sweaty headphones), or sitting out in the yard playing. I ordered it on a Sunday and it arrived that Thursday set up with about a millimeter of neck relief and about a 5 mm action, tuned down one step from standard. The onboard Fishman tuner is super handy and it agrees perfectly with my Snark Super Tight. It has a nice, rich tone across the spectrum both plugged in and unplugged. A word of caution if you do plug it in, though: have plenty of cable and make sure your muting technique is on point; it is LOUD! (In a good way!) I've only had it about 3 weeks at this point but I can foresee a long, lovely relationship with this beautiful bass!Vic B.

The biggest thing I noticed with this model compared to the other acoustic basses I've had is that this one really projects well and has great tone plugged or unplugged! I travel a lot and this bass has gone a lot of places with me and it's always sure to turn heads. I live in a place where i wouldn't want to crank my amps to play electric so this has become the main bass i use to practice with and i have a lot of fun with it. I brought this for a signature book for our wedding, we wanted a playable momento, but didn't want to spend a lot of money. It's a great $88 guitar, we have guitars upwards of $500 so of course it would not be as good. Well built, tunes easily, buy needs frequent tuning. I think if we replace with high quality strings we would definitely take this guitar up a notch. Good for beginners and will definitely teach them tuning skills.Tasha S.
I purchase this bass being motivated by its price and rave reviews. Let me just say that when I received my bass today I was blown over at the fit and finish on this bass. It looks like a $500.00+ guitar! I've been playing it for hours and the deep bass is so sweet. The action is a tad high but I kind of like it that way. The great sound projection from this bass made me chuckle while I was playing because the bass made a silver cup I have on a wall mounted shelf rattle! Now that's impressive sound projection! I can't wait to plug in this bass to my friend's Ampeg that's a 1X15 ported bass amp. It should be wild! This is a great acoustic-electric bass. I originally purchased it to use as an alternative to plugging in my electric bass. I instantly fell in love with it. It stays in tune. The nut is of appropriate measurements and the frets are greatly positioned. I changed the factory installed strings with some acoustic bass strings and it sounded so nice! Its a little by chance what you get from mex. fenders in terms of craftsmanship and details. Mine has a little dent and a little gap between neck and body but it is sturdy. Fret work is not like americans. Tone wise and playability is good. I like the look of pau ferro wood. Neck shape is comfy not like 70s baseball bat p bass more like 70s j bass. The orange color is the reason i pick this one, fender changing colors every two three years so if you have this color in mind go for it. Much much better in real than pictures. Overall, if you need a good practice/little jamming bass its a good alternative. Instead of squiers go for this. I have sire as well, if you dont like/need active preamp simple is the best. Also, this new pickups are good, have good bass and midrange not scooped like some american pickups. One final thing, I've tried couple of player series before ordering this, some of them is not well at all in build quality. So, it is a little surprise what you get, check after you buy it and then decide to keep it or not. Have fun..
Purchased the Fender Player Jazz bass. Overall great looks and sound, but some quality issues from the Fender Mexico factory (not Andertons' fault): – First bass had very clear weird uneven blemish under the varnish on the sunburst body. Not awful, but if I was in-store I would never have chosen that particular item. Returned and swapped by Andertons, no quibbles. Second bass arrived. Overall happy, sounds great, but still a few issues with quality control and design. – Control plate was missing 2 screws and was moving around – how does that get through Fender quality control? Replacement screws sent free of charge by Andertons. – Nut has not been slotted correctly – high G must have been passed through a machine and slipped, string is clearly a couple of mm too close to fretboard edge and you can see the failed first pass. Doesn't really affect playability, but is annoying and I will get it corrected at some point. Again, points to poor quality control. – Fretboard (Pau Ferro) is really thin – on the Player series, at least. Neck fret dot markers in white are half over the mid-dark fretboard, half over the light maple neck. Very hard to see in low light levels. OK, so they're just an indicator for position, but the design isn't great. So overall, the bass sounds great and Andertons service was very good. …and falls in love. Let me start by saying I actually have owned one other P-Bass. I had a 50s reissue Precision, but honestly the neck was just too thick for my liking after years of playing Jazz basses. Honestly, it felt thicker than the neck on my Yamaha 5-string. So, I picked this bass up after always dancing around getting what would be considered a more standard P-Bass. I have a 70s Jazz with a ton of modifications, I've had quite a few other brands of basses, but I wanted to see what the fuss was about. I ordered this a few weeks ago, and have been very pleasantly surprised. The action was pretty good out of the box. I adjusted it a bit, made a few tiny tweaks to the intonation, and now it's super smooth. And, on the pickups, let me say it's a great sounding bass. Pickups are clear, bass sounds great. I play through a little Ampeg Micro cabinet. Earlier this week, I bought some Flats to throw on it (because that's what you do with a P-bass, right?) and now it's quickly becoming one of my favorite instruments to jam with. It really cuts through the mix when playing in a group. I see why folks really love the sound of a precision. My Jazz still has it's place, but man, I really like the sound of this bass. The Player P is a great value for what you get. I've never owned an older MIM, but I research the heck out of pretty much any purchase I make, and it looks like Fender really stepped it up with this rendition of their MIM Precision basses. Good tone out of the box, no discernible pickup noise, good action, a beautiful neck, and a Tidepool Blue finish that just shines and shines.Dennis F

Great intermediate acoustic. Thinner, lightweight body that makes it very comfortable. Neck design more like an electric with rolled fingerboard edges and smooth frets. Cutaway enables a surprising amount of high end fret access. Piezo amplifier is really deep and rich sounding. Colours and design features convey nice 1950s vibe: well made and very good finish. This Fender guitar is awesome. Out of the box it is almost perfectly set up. The intonation is off just by a little bit and only with 2 or 3 strings. The sound seems a little washed while playing chords, but single notes are loud and clear. All the frets have edge treatment, nice and smooth. The synthetic bone used for the nut and bridge are way better than plastic, allowing for a long sustain. The guitar could use better tuning keys, but the guitar stays in tune good enough. Over all my guitar was built well, and I'm glad it sounds good, too. I would recommend this guitar for all beginner guitar players because of the sound quality, and anyone else who don't have the money for their dream guitar.Tim
The pick guard is just a cheap adhesive sticker thingy and it was already damaged and peeling off when I opened the box. Not a great first impression. But I chose to take it off completely and thankfully, the glossy finish that's all over the body of this guitar is also underneath the pick guard, so it doesn't look too bad at all and I can always replace it if I want to. The "champagne" color looks champagne in the right light, but appears khaki or even greenish the rest of the time. I do love the shape though. It's smaller, lighter, and sleeker than most guitars I've handled, awesome for a more petite person like me. I'm 5 feet tall and 90lbs, so a lot of guitars have been too bulky and awkward for me. In that respect, the Newporter has made me a better player since you naturally do better when you're more comfortable. I also love the neck/head with the electric style shape and inline strings. I like the strings it came with a lot. It didn't come properly tuned, but that was a quick fix, especially since the tuner works so nicely. The sound is surprisingly rich. Great volume, especially with a pick. Overall, it's a really nice option at a really nice price, I just wish the quality control was better. Getting a new instrument with peeling parts is really disappointing, feels like I got it used or something 🙁 but if you're lucky and get a unit that is perfectly intact, you'll love this rich, beautiful, comfortable guitar. But if you can afford to spend about double, then I would suggest you do that so you won't be gambling with the quality as much.Trudy G

I've had this bass for almost two weeks now, maybe a bit more. I didn't give my feedback befor today, since I would've given it less than a one. However, I waited for a reason. The sound is great, and I don't mind the sound of the stock pickups. It looks great, but that's trivial to me compared to the sound. Now here's a problem that few have mentioned. While some said, it's playable right out of the box, IT ISN'T. I got the bass in a pretty bad condition. Meaning, the action was too high, and the pickups were too close to the strings. It was virtually unplayable, even though I convinced myself that I could play it; which I did. But the pain in my fingers was indescribable, I almost got depressed. I changed my strings a week later to SH77 flat wounds .50 (heavy and thick strings), which didn't help initially. So I tried adjusting the action myself, but still wasn't enough. A day later, I sent it to a professional for setup. Now that made all the difference. I'm in love now. The strings sound amazing, the bass plays amazing, the feel is amazing, …. in brief it's amazing. Bottom line, have it setup by a professional ( unless you are a professional technician), otherwise you'll struggle with this bass. Unfortunately, the agent at MF mentioned that it's playable right out of the box, and I was naive to believe it. Anyway, live and learn. Set it up, and you'll already to go. I purchased a Sterling sub series stingray5 a week earlier and really wasn't happy so I went to return it. While I was there I was trying out some of the usual fenders that are in stock and just wasn't feeling it. Then, I noticed this one. I played it for 5 minutes and couldn't stop. It had the most comfortable neck I've ever played. After comparing it to a couple more expensive p bass options, this one was still the clear winner. The design may not be typical fender, and it's almost reminiscent of an Ibanez or a Washburn, but the ergonomic are like no other. Trust me this guitar is worth a shot. The tone is warm and growly. If you could imagine mixing the bass tone of the red hot chili peppers and the pixies, this would be what it sounds like.Chris
I got this bass recently and have to say its my go to bass for everything. I have a few others like a Dean which is nice, but feels odd due to its weight balance. But the Aerodyne sits well and feels comfortable. I think the tone of it sounds really good. Bought this in store so I got to test it out, action isnt bad. I did some innotating which only the E string needed it. I'm sorta new to bass, but I been producing music for 10 years. But being a new bassist, it feels great. I do highly recommend this bass. Overall: I purchased my first bass in 1976. I have owned many of the top notch, well known electric basses and a few acoustic basses.After I sold my last acoustic bass a couple years ago, I was in the market for another and decided to throw all in and purchase this Martin, sight unseen. I was expecting at least decent quality, and I knew if I found the bass lacking, at least I tried. I knew if I bought another "lesser" bass I would be left wondering "what if?"I received this bass mid January. Looking it over it was pretty much everything you would expect from a USA built Martin. I gave it 5 stars in every category except quality, which I gave 4 1/2.I attribute this to the fact the string height was high, and I mean way high. Like cheap pawn shop guitar high. Like had to go out if tune just fretting a string, especially higher up the neck.After careful consideration, I went ahead and pulled the Tusq saddle and gave it the sandpaper treatment to lower the string height. Damn the warranty, I am accustomed to doing most all my work anyway. In fact I've never had one of my personal instruments in a repair shop. To me it's like a soldier and his rifle, you need to know and understand your equipment.Anyway, now to the good part:After the strings were situated closer to the fretboard where they needed to be, I began playing and enjoying this fine instrument. In the couple of weeks I've had it, I can honestly say it's the finest bass or guitar I have ever played let alone owned. If I had to pick just one instrument to keep this would be it, hands down. Currently I have Gibson's, Rickenbackers and Fenders among others (no crazy ultra high end stuff). I would give up any or all just to keep this bass. Why?The ease of play and the sound of this bass, especially unplugged is unlike anything I have ever played. This bass is like a triple shot of adrenaline straight into my psyche. I am doing things with this bass I have never done with any instrument, let alone bass I have ever played.It is such a joy to play, after all these years of not having anything like this I can't imagine not having it. I will never part with this bass.Did I just get lucky with this one? Yes and no. I imagine all of Martin's basses must be this good.As far as the action, I suppose if you bought one from a brick and mortar Martin dealer they would have taken care of the action upon delivery.By the way, the action, the set up at the nut was perfect and I did not have to touch the truss rod adjustment at all.So if you will excuse me, I have to wrap up this review so I can spend some time with my new best friend… my Martin bass…

Absolutely belting and beautiful acoustic bass, lovely to play, great sound and lovely to look at. Acoustic basses are great if you’re time and space limited and just need something to pick up and play without the faff of plugging in and finding headphones etc (which i find a bit anti social for my partner and kids). I’ve tried a few acoustic basses and this is the best and it has a surprisingly good slap sound, which I hadn’t expected from an acoustic bass! All in all if you want something to play at home this is the best. I can’t comment on the electric sound (this has a preamp) as I haven’t used it yet and it’s not what I bought it for.D R. M.
This is a great bass! I've owned and played a handful of acoustic basses from different companies in my time and i like this one the best. Let me state first, I'm not a fender guy but…I've always loved the sound of an acoustic bass and I always wanted one, so i shopped around for a while and went through a few different models to arrive at this one. I've had it for a year now and i grow to love it more all the time! The pictures on GC dont do it justice…The high gloss black finish on the body and headstock is sleek and sexy and the bold block inlays coupled with the jazz bass neck and headstock give this beauty a different attitude compared to other acoustic basses and it plays smooth and sounds great! The biggest thing I noticed with this model compared to the other acoustic basses I've had is that this one really projects well and has great tone plugged or unplugged! I travel a lot and this bass has gone a lot of places with me and it's always sure to turn heads. I live in a place where i wouldn't want to crank my amps to play electric so this has become the main bass i use to practice with and i have a lot of fun with it. It looks and sounds great, it's built and finished well, it's fun and smooth to play, it holds its tuning and the electronics don't drain batteries…what more could you ask for? I would definitely recommend this bass, especially for the price point.Ray

This acoustic/electric bass sounds fantastic. I had been wanting to buy an ABG for a while, and when I picked this one up, it immediately felt good in my hands. The acoustic sound is good, but when I plugged it in, it was the pleasant surprise of the year. The sound is so warm, woody and clean. It has just the right amount of sustain, having a wooden, acoustic guitar-type bridge. I have been looking for this type of tone for a long time, I don't know why I never looked into an acoustic bass guitar. If you're looking for the opposite of a heavy, long-sustaining sound, check out one of these. For the price, you can't go wrong. This bass will makes you want to play more. It really is that good! As others have noted, this guitar would be a lot better if Fender gave a bit more attention to detail relative to the play-ability. The action is high as others have noted. The strings that ship with the guitar are trash. Replace them immediately. The frets are also rough. Whereas most frets on most guitars (even cheap ones) are nicely rounded, these have relatively sharp edges. No cut fingers, mind you, but there is a definite squarish edge to the frets. I purchased this for my 11-year old daughter for Christmas and it works. I purchased an Ovation shallow body (about hundred more) for my son, and it is far better. As my personal guitars are all high end, I could be spoiled, but the action and frets on this guitar are the main problem. Otherwise it is an awesome beginner guitar. But, I wished I had spent a little more and purchased the ovation for my daughter.ndelregno
Bought my black Stratacoustic used, at a flea mart. It was in sad shape. Re strung it twice. 12-53's were way too much tension although that's about what Fender used. The action was way too high for me. Too much tension. I decided to re- string with Elixir 10-46's. I carefully adjusted the truss rod for minimal relief and tweaked the back of the nut with a few strokes of break relief and some graphite lubrication and now, I can't get enough of this guitar. I also sanded the bridge piece down quite a bit. Plugged in, it sounds like a top of the line Ovation with its Fishman electronics. Unplugged, it has decent sonal qualities for practice purposes, but it's no Martin D-28 Un plugged. I was going to shim the neck for perfect action but have decided to hold off for now since the Elixirs and the truss rod adjustment have made this baby a joy to play. Not too much tension, and not too loosey goosey either. I've been looking for a guitar like this for years. It's well balanced too. The Fender neck is skinny for those who are used to fatter necks like Martins and Taylor's, but the adjustment comes easy. Mine is an older version. Bridge saddle flat is towards headstock, with no USB port.Tim the toolman
Ok….so it doesn't sound like a D28 unplugged. It's not supposed to. OK….so the factory setup isn't perfect. Simple fix. What it DOES do is give a workable "acoustic" sound in a live setting, with much higher volume before feedback than a traditional Acoustic with a pickup. The neck is also very familiar if you double on a regular Strat, Tele, etc. MIne is set up with 9/42 Electric Strings (like my Tele), and after a basic setup, plays like butter. Yes it sounds a little weak unplugged, but I run it thru an amp (and FOH) and it works very well. The Fishman electronics have the usual gain and 4-band EQ, but it still has the signature Piezo sound. Some folks like it, some want a more traditional sound. Easy fix? I run a Korg Toneworks modeler and have 4-5 "acoustic sim" patches preset. Boom. Done. Play the gig, collect the money, go home 🙂Old Dude

I have a number of acoustic type guitars – both steel and nylon strung. When playing these I rarely strum – it's a finger style combination of rock, flamenco, folk, blues and jazz ( a real mixture). The first thing I did was to change the strings (D'Addario Silk & Steel). As a result this little Fender beauty has turned into an excellent parlour guitar: it's responsive, lovely to play and remarkably loud for its size. Build quality is good and the sound projects well. If you're a chord strummer, I wouldn't suggest that the Sonoran is for you – but it responds superbly to finger style playing. It's subtle and responsive. For the money, it's very, very good. And of course, it's very, very easy to lug around. Love it!Gillian B.
Pretty nice sounding instrument! Way less money than most solid wood, small bodied shorter scale guitars, & stacks up decently against “higher end” offerings. As a traditionalist, the onboard electronics were an annoying detraction, but in practice the pickup system sounds far more natural than I was expecting. And as a couch/practice guitar, having a tuner on the instrument is handy, I’ll grudgingly admit. If I were the type to plug in an acoustic on stage, I’d get good use out of these features. There are a few other general things that caught my attention, listed in no particular order. The dynamic range is an interesting departure from typical full scale acoustics. It’s quieter when finger picked softly, but as loud or louder when dug into with a pick. Definitely doesn’t sound small when played with authority, & generally has great resonance. I’ve yet to try lighter strings, but with 12 gauge phosphor bronze, it doesn’t feel too slinky or incredibly different than a longer scale length acoustic. I do find it a tad more comfortable, but not a night & day difference. The only lesser aspect is mostly down to the stock setup. Action was a little on the high side, & the G# fret under the low E string was a little high, so G chords buzzed on that string. This doesn’t detract from my over all impression, as I’m imagining most folks buying a decent instrument will end up setting it up & leveling fretwork to taste. All in all, mine’s a very nice acoustic guitar by any measure, & its sound punches way above its weight class in terms of cost. I dig it.WJJ
