Ernie Ball 7 String Guitar For Sale (2024 Update)

These have been my chosen strong for electric guitar for a few years now. I put them on my epiphone les paul as well as my fender strat and they always serve really well. Sound and feel amazing!Harrison W.

These strings seem to have more bite and attack. Clarity is key here with these things. Very clear on every string. I will buy again for my 7 string guitar. Being tuned low and having the clear voicing come through is pleasant. Thank youMatthew

I was talked into buying these strings about a month ago by a sales associate at the Guitar Center in Jackson, Ms. Said they were the best strings Earnie Ball had to offer. I can now say that I disagree. I love Earnie Ball strings, don't get me wrong, but these are by far the worst I have purchased. I had them on for two weeks and played on them five times. Put my bass in its case after every session. Within a week, I started noticing that they were gaining rust. Dispite the fact that I cleaned them. By the time the second week came, they looked like they had been left in the rain for months. I don't recommend these strings to anyone. The steel and nickel strings, yes, buy those. I love them. But these new cobalt strings are a waste of money. Thankfully my local Guitar Center took care of me and gave me a free pack of strings when I showed them the wear and tear they had gained over a course of two weeks. I'll say again, don't buy these strings. You will be disappointed.Van Lee

However, for my purposes I find that they have too much ring and higher frequency harmonics and overtones, and don't give me that down and dirty sound I'm looking for. Perhaps after using them while they will mellow out and give a more pleasing tone. But for now I would say these would be best for slap and pop, where you want a real strong response in the higher registers. The new Cobalt, and Paradigm series strings are even better in my opinion, and it is the Paradigm that I use on my personal guitars now but for every guitar that I sell (several every month) it is always Cobalt series strings. I live on the Florida coast so anything made of metal is short lived especially guitar strings but the Cobalts do the trick, and last a couple of months for me.zombie415.2009

These strings need no credability having already been used and endorsed by the likes of Eric Clapton and Steve Vai and many more guitar giants. I only recently tried these cobalts and will probably never go back to the standard nickel strings. The big difference you notice right away is the feel of the strings when pressed and played, almost giving the feel of having a scalloped neck. The strings have a sort of elasticity to them, making for easy bending. Just a great feel. The next difference you'll notice is the higher output they give, while in my case actually making each note more distinct and clear at higher gains. As far as "output" I can't really discern any advantage over other strings, but these of course have that great bouncy Ernie ball sound to them. I play guitar in a hobby cover band that occasionally gigs. In my 20 years of guitar playing, I have never played a guitar that sounds as amazing and feels as nice as the JP15, even those disgustingly expensive PRSs and custom shop Gibsons. The neck is silky smooth. All the hardware has a solid feel: knobs, switches, tremolo, tuning packs, and so forth. I love how the guitar can provide a full range of sounds. The neck pickup is well rounded. The dual setting sounds just as snappy as a Strat with the single coil switch engaged. The bridge pickup has a sharp (but not harsh) attack and cuts through the mix. I didn't think I would use the boost switch as much as I do. It gives you just a bit more bite or feedback, if you want to add that sort of thing to your solos. Overall, the JP15 produces a beautiful crisp tone. The guitar is visually stunning.The color is a bit darker than it appears online (see picture), but that's a good thing because it contrasts well with the chrome hardware. The only complaint I have about the guitar is the case. It's a soft leather, and it's hard to load into my trunk with all my gear without wearing the leather corners off on the rough carpet. Plus, the latches are just a little misaligned so you have to work at it to close the case. These are minor in the grand scheme of things, but they should be noted on a $3000+ guitar.Eddie

I love this guitar. The color viola is awesome and looks great with the gold hardware. The wood is so smooth on the back of the neck your hand just glides with ease up and down the fretboard. I was on the fence about picking up the jp 15 because of the rave reviews about the oil finish but the majesty artisan neck is amazing and the upper fret access is 2nd to none. The peizio system took some getting used to, but once I got the adjustments on the back dialed in it gave me an awesome option for my clean tones that no other Electric I have played can produce. I can not stop playing this guitar it inspires me to wake up early and get a practice session in before work everyday. I would buy this guitar again in the blink of an eye.Sam

Collaboration between John Petrucci and Ernie Ball over 10plus years (three years on this model) has produced a guitar that is the best in terms of feel, tone, and playability. This guitar is nearly perfect in every way! The decibel booster and coil split functions are super easy to use when all you have to do is push instead of pull. The craftsmanship is impeccable! I'm a big Floyd Rose fan and was a little skeptical about the Music Man tremolo, but paired with the Schaller locking tuners, this thing holds as good a tuning as my original Floyd's do. I'm able to dive bomb, flutter and scream with this thing! I'm a huge fan of Jason Richardson and am very impressed with this signature/custom guitar. I'm not a fan of artist's signature instruments, but this guitar is definitely built for musicians who want to encompass a wide range of sounds without sacrificing playability. I only say it is nearly prefect because I wish it came with all of the tools to fine tune the instrument(had to tighten the swing of the tremolo arm) and did not come with the specifications of how or what is needed to make these adjustments. Other than that, I'm extremely happy with this purchase! Well worth the money!AdamDanimal

This is my first 7 string in 20 years and my first guitar over $1200 and it is absolutely amazing! Worth every penny. It looks better in person than in the pictures. The onboard boost is amazing! Very versatile as well, you can get anything from single coil sounds to full on high gain humbuckers, from jazz/blues to freaking metal! I’m not even a big metal player, I mainly wanted the 7th string for more range and to inspire some more creativity. I should have gotten a 7 a long time ago. The strings don’t go out of tune even when you dive bomb all the way down. I’ve only tuned it maybe 3 times in the last month and I’ve played it almost everyday. I have a strat and a Schecter PT Apocalypse and this is the best of both worlds. Highly recommend this guitar to anyone!Brandon P.

I have Ernie Ball Music Man Artisan Majesty guitar and I first purchased the "2623 Super Slinky 7-String Electric Guitar Strings" first from here and they sounded horrible on this guitar(very twangy) and the B string was dead. I would assume these size strings don't belong on this guitar. I purchased these Paradigm strings and they sound great. Time will tell how long they last. The packaging was very nice. It was in sealed air tight package and in a box.Treagor

This product gets a 4 due to how quick they seemed to fade. I bought the Ibanez FRIX7 and purchased 3 packs of these to try them out. At first I thought they were amazing, then after about a week I was kind of hearing less tone and it sort of kept declining from there. FYI I have extremely acidic fingers so it’s no surprise that I had this issue. It definitely last 2-3 times longer than a D Adarios so the tech does work. That said, I ended up buying heavy Elixers and using the low string from the packs of EBalls. Sounds awesome and works the way I need. Hope this helps! SamPSamuelPlayzon

The 7th String is not heavy enough for tuning down to A. The Tension is way too low and the string won't stay in tune. I swapped it out for a .068 and it matches the tension of the other strings much better for A Standard tuning.Andy

Ernie Ball makes fantastic strings for 6,7, and 8 string guitars. Including acoustic. Skinny Top Heavy Bottom strings are a perfect combination of heaviness but still giving them the original Slinky feel to them.Talon

I have been using Ernie Ball strings for quite some time. I've gone through most of the gauges and I was set on the Mega Slinkys. Then I saw that EB came out with the lightest strings available called Zippy Slinky. I was way excited to try these out. My guitar center carried the strings and I bought 3 sets. As I was putting the strings on my guitar, I couldn't believe how thin they were especially the high E string. I played my tele after tuning the strings and I was amazed at how awesome they played and sounded! They are extremely easy to play and stay in tune and not one string broke. You don't have to play soft or delicate with these strings. I play surf and these strings really do the job. I'll be sticking with Zippys for now on.Dan

These strings have suited me very well. The clarity that i got melded so well with the active emg pickups on my schecter hellraiser c-7. The clarity from these strings forced me to play more clean. My leads, especially above 12th fret, have become much more distinguishable. Combined with the active pickups, its almost like each note is now easier to hear as you play a fast lead run. Its worth the money because of the improved tone for sure. Not to mention the clarity stays fresh for twice as long as regular steel or nickel wound strings.C7 HellRAISER

In most cases, I would never buy Ernie Ball. I've tried pretty much every brand and Ernie Ball overall wasn't even something I'd consider back in the day. However, a couple years ago I was in a pinch and bought the Cobalts for my 7 string guitar. Ever since I haven't purchased another kind of string. These are the best in my opinion. My absolute favorite. I string all my guitars with Cobalts. Their only downside was that they felt really rough on my fingers when I started playing on them. I don't notice that anymore though. I was also getting back into playing so that could have been why. Maybe I've been lucky. In my experience Ernie Ball strings can break as soon as you take them out of their little paper sheath. In the case of the Cobalt strings, I have never had to change a Cobalt string due to it breaking. I've never had a Cobalt string break on me. In some cases a year has passed and the worst that's happened is the strings won't hold their tune as well anymore. Now, I'm not suggesting you wait a year. Typically, I change strings on my guitars every 3-6 months.And I'm not saying these won;t break. I'm fully expecting a string to break on me when I start playing today because I'm posting this. All I'm saying is if you can stand how these feel on your fingers, I think you'll start buying them on a regular basis like I did. Thanks for reading!Cyrillicide

Overall: I gotta say this is the best guitar I've ever had my hands on, and I've had my hands on some wild instruments!! When I first opened up the Rock Solid Case (SKB Style), I was blown away by how gorgeous the guitar looked. The translucent green and the high quality flamed maple shield just stood out, the fretboard was black, like how I always pictured an ebony fretboard should look!! I don't think there should be that moment where you are like "hmmm is that rosewood??", ebony should just stick out like a sore thumb. Once I was able to get past taking in how the guitar looked, I was again shook by how light the guitar is, not only that, but ergonomic to the bone!!! The guitar arrived slightly tuned down, and I sadly never had any experience with locking tuners so when I loosened them to tune the guitar, all three higher strings fell off :(. I now know how to use them though, and after a restring and setup (I did by myself, and super easy by the way) the guitar action is incredibly low, and plays like a dream, super silky neck which was awesome, since I'm used to playing high line Ibanez necks. I only really have 2 gripes about this guitar, and one of them is the pickups, I know that it is a Petrucci Signature guitar, and it's set to his specs, but I've never been a fan of DiMarzio, and it's sad that the pups don't even say "DiMarzio" on them, but even though they sound good, they are not for me.. I prefer something tighter with more sustain, I'll be changing them out with a set of Lundgren M7 pups. Finally the only other gripe I have is that the guitar didn't come with any sort of tools to adjust it, for a guitar that costs this much, I feel they should have included some starter tool kit so you could adjust everything which needed to be adjusted. But honestly with how the guitar plays, and looks, and even sounds, then looking at how easy it was to set up, it's a no brainer!! If you are thinking of getting a majesty guitar, stop thinking, and just get it (if you can afford it), zZounds 12 payment plan makes it super easy!! Get it you won't be dissapointed!!Rob

The product is a great product, but for the quality issues. Both guitars I received had loose acoustic boards and the acoustic volume knob was rattling in the hole. The second one was obviously open box with a scratch on the neck (fingerboard) as well. For a guitar of this price to have such problems means that quality control is zero to none. It also means that the manufacturing staff is driven to complete the product, rather than take pride in their product, since this is so immediately noticeable that the person making it could not have not noticed it. I will never buy a music man again, until they fix that. PRS may be more expensive, but they are ALWAYS playable right out of the factory! (I only own 5)JamesC

BB King famously convinced Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top to switch to lighter strings and Billy never looked back. Tone can be shaped so much by the amp so the primary function of strings is feel and playability. Lighter strings like these mean you can play harder for longer. I also find I'm playing more accurately because my movements needs to be more delicate.Jack C.

You have to try these strings for yourself. No matter what anyone reviews or says, this is a matter of preference. So I say spend the money and try them. I will relate my personal review now. First off Ernie Ball strings are very good strings. I would say that about Curt Magnum, DR, GHS pure Nickels and Fender pure Nickels also. I play pure Nickel strings which are mellow strings btw. I normally use .10s and .11s. This was an experiment for me because I went down a rathole one night on the internet reading about what strings "the stars" use. I read what people said and honestly it is entertainment in itself!!! If you use 10s or heavier, you will have to adjust your neck, action and intonation. These no getting around that. The tension is very different. If you re-adjust your tone settings on your pedals and amplifiers, you'll get a usable tone with these strings. You'll have to play with your pickups also since they respond differently. Don't use these strings if you have a heavy picking hand like SRV. If you have a light hand or can switch it up and play softly, try them. DON'T go out and play a gig if you haven't spent some time with them, especially if you are dropping down from 10s or 11s. If you use 9s, you'll probably be ok. I am all for playing without tiring and playing without hurting my tendons. Maybe I will stick with these OR NOT. I have them on a PRS Custom 22 SE. I use 2mm V-picks. You had better use light picks with these strings. I switched to a Fender medium. So I use 11s when tuned down a half step. 10s up to pitch. If you have tendonitis from playing guitar 3 or 4 hours a day for 50 something years, these will be a refreshing change and you may not have any pain whatsoever. These are certainly the strings to use on a guitar that has a neck issue where the truss rod won't handle 11s or 10s. Nowadays, necks don't seem to be made to handle the medium or heavy gauge strings that I grew up with. Whatever I say doesn't matter. When it comes to strings, you will have to try them yourself and decide if they work for you or not. I purchased four sets to try on numerous guitars. I may get up enough nerve to use them at a gig. These may be strings to put on student guitars so they don't get discouraged.Rick

Ernie Ball has always been a high quality guitar string. Used by beginners, every day pickers, and professional musicians. They provide great sound and a great feel when played on a cheap guitar, or high dollar instrument. Im no professional guitarist , but I do know The Ernie Ball Slinky series string should be your number one choice when looking for a great all around string. There on all my guitars. Guys, these strings are AMAZING! Let me tell you, if you put these strings in after having a different brand in, you will totally feel and hear the difference. It makes your guitar sound great. You can easily bend strings and make a beautiful vibrato with these! Overall: I got this guitar a hair over a month ago, and wanted to wait awhile before I wrote a review so I could get past the "honeymoon stage" and write a fair review. Well it turns out I might as well have fired this review off on the 1st day, because nothing has changed!!This beast arrived set up so well that even the stock strings sounded good for my initial riffage, but once I got my preferred strings on there, man, that Ibby lit up!! The chugs were thick and grindy, the chords chimed, the leads sang, and I was blown away!!The pickups in this guitar are maybe the tiniest hair lower-output than my personal preference, but nothing to ding points over, and the 5-way switching opens up the possibilities! Build quality, fit, and finish are outta this world for a guitar at this price point, and yes, this guitar does sport a slightly larger neck than the traditional Wizard 7 string profile, which for my giant hands, feels like home. In conclusion, if you are looking for a great new flavor of 7 to add to your collection, or need a first one that won't let you down, dive in!!Chris

Let me just start off by saying that I've been playing 6 string guitar since 1995, however this is my first 7 string guitar. This Ibanez gio has amazing craftsmanship and playability unparalleled at its price range. I have guitars that cost three times as much that aren't as well made. This was setup well no buzz on the frets. If you want to change it's tone later on just buy new pickups.
