This here is an epiphone "inspired by gibson" firebird. comes with a gig bag too! these epiphones are on a different level compared to past ones, really solid guitar for the price. pickups are great, it's a joy to play as well. this one here has minor wear on it that is pictured in the photos, none of it affects playability. getting rid of to offset another guitar purchase.most notably, there's a little chip in the 7th photo, that's fixable (go on youtube) if it bugs you, and there's another finish crack near the nut in the 10th photo. the finish crack doesn't go into the wood and can also be fixed if you're into sanding and glue fixes. pointing all these out for transparency's sake and the guitar is priced accordingly, a few hundred bucks off!

Epiphone? Made in China? Don't let either of those things influence your decision, this is every bit a Gibson Firebird, at less than a third of the price. Through neck construction, solid mahogany body wings, with mahogany and walnut 9 piece neck, impeccable fit and finish, I am quite sure if the spec sheet said it was nitro lacquer you would believe it (apart from the missing nitro smell!) Full size CTS Potentiometers and orange drop capacitors populate the hand wired control cavity, lovely fret ends, and only one fret I could find that was a touch high with the trusty fret rocker, great setup from PMT. Now a few negative points, the pickups to my ear don't have "that" character that the traditional firebird pickup construction gives, they absolutely are not bad pickups, they sound pretty good, but I will upgrade them in the future. The pickup selector switch is cheap and it shows, I would happily pay £30 more and have a Switchcraft switch and output Jack, especially given those lovely CTS pots. I would have liked to have seen locking tuners, I know they are not vintage, but this model has modern Grover kidney tuners either way, again would gladly pay £70 more and have a tasty set of locking Grovers on there, but again an easy upgrade to do at home in the future! Overall 9.5/10 losing the half mark on the pickups and cheapo switch, and honestly has a better overall fit and finish than my GIbson Les Paul HP-II. If you fancy something a bit different with a glorious pushed clean, blues and rock tone, buy one, you won't be disappointedOliver M.
I love this thing. Tone was great right out of the box, but the strings stained my fingers so I did my usual switch to D'Addario 11s and lowered the action a bit and adjusted the pickup heights, but it ruined the tone. I'm just glad I played it a bit before changing the action. Buzzing was getting in the way of the amplified tones, so I raised the action back up and adjusted the pickup heights again and this thing is just awesome sounding. The G and B string of this guitar make it the best sounding of all my guitars and I tend to pick this one up the most since I purchased it. The only thing is, it makes it harder on the fingers to play, which still has me baffled because my Fenders/Squires all have 11s and longer neck scales at varying action but aren't as difficult to play. The tone is more than enough incentive to keep this plugged though, and down-tuning it to Eb helps. If you're coming from a Strat, Tele, Squire Starcaster, or Gretsch Semi-hollow or solid body, you may find the neck, specifically as it nears the body gets pretty thick, and string spacing will be a litte wider than you're used to. It'll be especially noticeable when switching back and forth between this and your other guitar. It may not be much of a deal breaker if you don't play with your thumb ever, but it definitely changes the way I play certain things. I've become fond of the wider string spacing though as I notice I don't accidentally hit the other strings as much. If you've always wanted a Firebird and this guitar looks amazing to you on the website, then get it. It's even more amazing than the pictures. I used to be strictly a Strat player and started branching out in the last few years. This guitar is, to date, by far my favorite branch on the tree.Zach
I'm trying for a balance here between reviewing this as solely "for the price" and also putting it up against any guitar regardless of cost. The final star rating is 100% value for the money though. Appearance: 8/10 It's not a stunner necessarily, but with Chinese made Epiphones what I desire with the finish is just very competent work. I am indeed impressed as the paint job is better than several American made guitars I've had. Lines are great, the various crevices are done well, the burst is quite good, it's just a nice looking instrument. Finish is poly, as one would expect at $600. The mahogany has some nice grain too. The Pau Ferro fretboard looks nice and dark, they've definitely gotten the hang of getting the fake rosewoods looking good in the past year or two. Those used to be super dependent on the specific guitar. Hardware: 7/10 Tuners are grovers and definitely feel good. New guitars are always a bit wonky with their tuning because of the strings, but it held pretty well while I was playing it. Strings are obviously getting changed right away so I won't comment on that. Pots are CTS and feel nice to move. They have the good kind of friction that you look for. Output jack is unspectacular, does the job. That's the type of thing that's good when you never notice it. Pickup selector is a bit weird compared to other three way toggles I've used. It's like it gravitates towards the middle position harder than most if that makes sense. Like being on the bridge or neck only giving it the tiniest tap will move it to the middle. I haven't had any actual issues with this due to its location, but something to note. Electronics: 9/10 I am legitimately impressed with Epiphone here. Alnico Firebird pickups that stay true to actual FB pickup construction rather than taking the easy way out and dropping mini humbuckers in there is impressive and the CTS pots and orange drop caps are obviously quality components. I really enjoy how this thing sounds. There isn't a single genre of music that I don't think this guitar could at least semi-adequately tackle. It doesn't even need coil splits to accomplish this. Sounded great through various drive, distortion, and fuzz pedals and also has a super chime-y high end on the bridge pickup. Setup and Playability: 5/10 I forgive poor setups from the factory 100% due to shipping changes, every customer having a different preference, and how easy it is to adjust this stuff with a simple multi-tool. This one came with super high action which I was prepared for and took care of, but I did pretty quickly find out that this is due to some pretty bad fret buzzing on the low strings. Even at moderately low action I was getting this. Now, I'm one who would much rather have higher action on the low strings than the high ones and I'm fine with how I was able to set it up, but some might be annoyed that they'd have to pay $50-$100 depending on the luthier to get the frets leveled and achieve truly low action. Fret edges are totally fine, no sharp points or anything. The neck is very comfortable to me, but that is so subjective to different people that it's not really worth diving into. The nut is fine too. I would say the fret leveling was the most disappointing thing about the guitar I got, but in reality it's not a huge deal to me personally so I'm still leaving it at 5 stars. There was no fretting out on bends or anything like that. Conclusion: Really, this has the features of a guitar more expensive than it is. It reminds me of a past PRS S2 guitar that I used to own that was $1,200, the difference being that it was made in the US. Is this a master crafted instrument of impeccable quality? No, it's a mass produced Chinese guitar that's probably mostly made by a machine. However, for those that value location of manufacture less such as myself, this guitar and the current Epiphone product line in general presents a wonderful opportunity to roll the dice a bit with build quality and go for $1000 guitar features at a much more competitive price point.

I love this Casino. I knew I wanted a P-90, and I really wanted a fully hollow body. I wanted to see if I could replicate a I've been agonizing over the purchase for months, looking for every possible solution, and was almost ready to pull the trigger on the Epi USA version, and after MUCH research, finally decided to go with the regular Epiphone. The construction, from everything I read, is excellent, and I knew that if necessary, I could always switch out the pups. Well, I can't say enough about how good this guitar is! I am extremely fussy on setups (I do setups on my own guitars and for other people) and this thing was ready to play right out of the box! I literally didn't touch a thing except to tune it up. I won't even have to dress the frets. I may touch them up just a bit (again, I'm really fussy) but they feel better than most guitars that cost three times as much. It is really beautiful. I love the vintage sunburst. The finish is flawless. Now for the important part – it plays like a dream. The neck profile is extremely comfortable. I can move up and down the neck as fluidly as on any guitar I own. And the sound! I was amazed at how present it is, even before plugging it in. I see this little sweetheart spending a lot of evenings on the couch with me. Soft enough not to overly bother my wife, but again – very present. Plugged in – well lets just say I won't be replacing these pups. It is exactly the sound I was hoping for. I'm no Grant Green, but I can certainly understand why he loved this guitar. Would I recommend it? Heck yeah! Country? Check. Classic rock? Check. Rockabilly, surf, blues and even jazz? Check, check, check, and check.Jess
This thing is easily worth 4 times the price. The build quality is impeccable. The binding is perfectly flush, the finish is beautiful and evenly applied and the intonation was extremely close out of the box (I only had to move the G string saddle back a bit to set it, all the other strings were perfect). The headstock has a nice molded profile to the sides – this is something I haven't seen on other Epiphone guitars. The PRO p90 pickups are fantastic. I have 11 other electrics from an epi 335 to a Gibson Les Paul Traditional to modded teles and strats and I never could quite find that classic clear tone with a thick rich drive when you dig into it that I've been looking for – this Casino has that sound! Every website/listing likes to talk about the Beatles… that comparison doesn't speak to what this guitar is capable of. This is more in line with Gary Clark Jr., The Black Crowes, Jack White and The Allman Brothers Band sounds. Think rich, bluesy rock. It's much cooler than "the Beatles guitar". Plug this sucker into a Vox and you're in business. The C shape neck is very comfortable- it has a flat back with rounded sides. Plus, with the satin finish your hand moves more freely up and down the neck. It's nice to play unplugged too, it's fully hollow so it plays/sounds like a quieter acoustic unplugged. The knobs/pots are really cool looking and work great with no scratching. They have even adjustments – no quick falls after a certain number like you see with others in this price range. They have a cool old school tab to show where you are on the dial (no pictures show this little detail). All in all – super cool vintage vibe, sweet clean tone with a fun roaring bite on the gain – excellent guitar.
Had the money to buy any guitar in the shop. Liked the looks of the SG, worn ebony with rosewood fingerboard and the Gibson speed knobs. Having only played guitars with 9.5 radius, I found the 14 radius was better for bar chords. The craftsmanship is excellent, can find no flaws the body or neck. The truss rod was out of adjustment, considerable back-bow. I fixed that, and set the action low. The intonation was spot on. Frets were polished with no sharp edges. I plan to upgrade the cheap electronics with new pots. As for the pickups, they sound ok. Since I use a modeling amp, not a big issue for me. The nut is a GraphTech synthetic bone. Nice touch for an inexpensive guitar, since i do not like changing them out…too much risk of damage. I have fender Strat and Tele, but have not put this down since purchasing it. Once I upgrade the electronics, this will be a very solid guitar.Jeff

The looks are good for stage (the audience doesn't look too closely at the f-holes), but I wouldn't frame the thing and hang it on the wall. But, that's not what it's for. I bought this because I am an ordinary mortal who cannot afford a Gibson 335. This eases my 335 lust quite handily. The neck intonation is precise, my guitar came set up ideally, it has a great palette of tones. Unlike a Gibson, it has only one volume and one tone control, so one accesses that palette of tone differently. A plus- I can do volume-pot roll-ons more easily than with a 4-knob setup. It stays in tune, and is happiest when playing with a good tube amp set just at breakup – it cleans up with the volume knob, fills its jockstrap when you crank it back up, and use a good overdrive pedal to take it over the top for leads. Epiphones seem to be, in my experience, some of the best-built Chinese guitars. Good tone, good playability and tuning stability, It's the first of my guitars that I grab when headed for a blues gig.the old bald guy
I love the Dot, but I am disappointed in the quality control. I purchased a jet black Dot and I could tell right off the bat that there were problems. The first clue was a scratchy pickup selector switch. The guitar is set up un-neccessarily high. Fortunately it is very easy to adjust the action height on this model. The biggest disappointment is the second day I went to pickup the guitar and cracks had started to develop on the neck! This one when directly back to MF and they seem to have been very helpful. This time around I chose the natural finish, because I want to see the neck wood and determine if I have a finish issue or a genuine structural issue. The Dot I sent back didn't seem to have a structural issue, but the finish at a minimum was below par. The second guitar I received seems to work really well and has consistent tone.Fred
The Epiphone Dot is a major bargain, especially when compared to the USA-made Gibson 335. It has outstanding tone right out of the box. Being a tone fanatic, I replaced the bridge with a Tonepros TPFG bridge with nylon saddles, pickups were replaced by Throbak SLE-101 humbuckers, and the tuners were replaced with Kluson Revolution locking tuners. Now it is an awesome tone monster, still for way less than you would pay for the Gibson 335. Players should be aware that the body is significantly larger than a Strat or a Les Paul — but that's what happens when semi-hollow resonance is what you're after. The center block design is very effective at eliminating unwanted feedback from your amp. Don't think you have to modify it to make it sing, like I said before, it packs a wallop even in stock form. What I do strongly recommend is to have a professional guitar tech or luthier give the guitar a pro setup, complete with truss bar adjustment and saddle adjustment.stonnman

Bought without trying it out because I had seen a photo and decided I would like to try it but was out of stock for many months. Then it became available for $79 off and I jumped. – It came well packaged and in perfect condition. 'Played as well as it looked and it looks even better than the photos show it. The finish is as deep and glossy as any I have seen, and even the fretboard is bound. It seemed a tad bass shy at first but over the last few weeks has bloomed and now sounds beautifully balanced with tight well defined tones throughout the octaves and plenty of shimmer up high. 'Have not plugged in yet but it projects well without amplification and should be just fine for a small stage like a church or coffee house. I highly recommend this guitar to any enthusiast.Steven
I went to the GC in Palm Desert CA with a five-hundred dollar budget for a new acoustic/electric. There were three guitars that I had to play, but I was open to checking out others. I didn't see the Hummingbird in the room so I asked the clerk to check for me … he found one. Before he got back with the Epiphone, I had a chance to play the Guild and a Fender that were on my list, as well as a few that were not. The Fender was winning … until the clerk showed up with the Epiphone. The craftsmanship/fit and finish, the feel of the neck/action, the sound projection/tone … Everything about the guitar was perfect for me! I could not be happier!John
For the price it is exceptional value. Beautiful looking musical instrument. For me there are just two reservations. 1. There is no built tuner. 2. The pick up doesn’t work with my Xvive U2 wireless system. I have another electro acoustic, also with Fishman electronics, which does work with the Xvive U2 wireless system so I was sort of expecting this would to. Apart from that it is jewel of a guitar and punches well above its price tag.

I've wanted a semi-hollow for some time and I took the plunge to get this one. It's a very nice guitar that looks good and plays well. I was initially suspicious because of the price, as other guitars in the range did not play so well to me. Anyway, I had the store do a setup to ensure everything was fine and had the strings on I like to use. I change my own strings, of course, but I don't have tools for doing a proper setup. Good thing I did. Their Technician/Luthier CONNER, was very, very conscientious about his work, even fixing a slightly raised 14th fret. He was very meticulous in his inspection and work. If you don't have a semi-hollow body ax, this would be a good choice for the money. I have not had it long enough to say much about the two split-coil switches for the humbuckers. Maybe they'll turn out to add some good sounds as I play more. My only significant gripe is that the back of the neck has a standard gloss finish. If you play guitar, you probably hate that, as well. But some light sanding and oil should improve the playability.George
This was for my son, a late beginner, to add to his Ibanez s521. This was ordered online, not bought off the wall. It comes very well packaged for shipment and arrived with zero scratches or damage. The strings that it has are actually OK and I may keep them for a bit. I am not a huge fan of the gold metallic but it is the kid's preference, and the finish seems nice. I did not see much of the paint covering part of the binding in places as some have remarked, and the binding seems to be pretty decently done. The only really startling indicator of low build quality on ours is the very rough finish on the insides of the f holes. There are places that the paint has small runs in it and you can tell there was cost savings. There are guitars in the price category that are much better finished in there and I would have gladly paid a couple of extra bucks for this. At least they could have painted it black on the sides of the holes, like they did on some of the other colors, to hide it somewhat. On the gold, it is just jarring. I may do just that, after it is out of warranty of course. It is sad because there aren't any other significant issues on mine. The fret ends seem pretty nice and there really isn't any lifting, sprout, or sharpness on any of them. I am intermediate, so I can't really say authoritatively how the tone compares to others objectively, but to my ears it sounds pretty good especially compared to some others in the price range, like the stock Ibanez pickups. Seem to have clarity and not muddy. Like the neck profile. Neck required a slight loosening of the truss rod to straighten and the action was easily lowered to 1.5mm at the 12th fret low e without significant buzzing. The treble bleed does its job and single coil option is nice too. It won't sound like my strat but it does give some versatility. The guitar is very fun to play with its neck profile and radius once I did my mild setup on it, and hard to explain, but I don't want to put it down once I start using it. Despite the one flaw, I still think it is a good buy and recommended.JM
A great es-335 from Epiphone, especially with the alnicoV humbuckers, coil splitting, and quality control all around. I did very little set-up to get nice low action; I must also put on some new strings, loop-tie them, with some stop bar adjustment. I like this glossy ebony finish, but used steel wool on the back of the neck to take down the stickiness. Clear mellow sound with a bit of woodiness on the neck pickup; good for rhythm, CCR, country, jazz, and classic rock. The bridge pickup gives me more attack; good for clear chicken picking, and with pedals heavy distortion chunks and leads. With the coil split, I can almost get a Tele sound on the bridge pickup. The neck shape is sort-of D shaped; I prefer the rounded C-shape of the 1950s Gibsons. Great guitar at a super price on deal of the day sale. This is one of those rare very low priced yet quality guitars worth buying and playing.Professorchill

Totally stunned at how beautiful this guitar is. After looking at the advertising picture, the Desert Burst colors looked "flat", and I had feared that the "flame maple top" on this would look like imitation wood stickum' vinyl flat color type looking stuff or something for some reason,…BUT NO…it is the REAL THING!, genuine FLAME MAPLE, and you can look down into it's wood finish "a mile deep", and as you move the guitar around, the natural flame maple stripes dance and change shape like a "iridescent 3D hologram type effect", it is absolutely AWESOME! The mahogany body back and neck is glossy, deep, and beautiful. It feels good to hold, has a nice weight. Epiphone has upgraded the humbuckers on this, the switches give so many choices, and I will definitely NOT be changing them in any way, they are perfect, and sound AWESOME! And I am impressed with the Epiphone's upgraded Grover tuners it has. Mine did have a bit of fret buzz, but my technician fixed it in less than 15 minutes. One thing that bothers me, is that this guitar needs better strap buttons, they are beveled inefficiently, and mounted at a outboard angle (as opposed to a Stratocaster's inboard angle). An outboard angle lets the strap slip off easily while playing, so use strap locks, or a slightly bigger outer washer "retainer" on the button. Some straps have excessively long attachment slots for some reason, and it might help to stitch up this slot a bit shorter too. I LOVE THIS GUITAR!Sir Ripstring
I'm amazed by the quality of this guitar at this price point. It sounds simply amazing. Rich, beautiful tone, with sustain that lasts for days. It is an extremely resonant guitar, quite loud even unplugged. I was very excited that it was not too heavy, as I was afraid it would be. While I haven't weighed it, it is clearly lighter than my 8 pound Strat, so guessing it is maybe 7.5-7.7 pounds or so. The neck is not too thin, which I like, and I love the radius. It is quite flat, and bends are a breeze.The craftsmanship on mine was fabulous. Not sharp frets, no issues with the finish, or the electronics, or anything I could see. The only disappointment I had was that the color was not as vibrant as the stock photos. I got the 'Translucent Blue' and it is darker and you cannot see quite as much of the wood grain. It is an attractive guitar, but that could be a bit better. The setup out of the box was atrocious, but that was a very easy fix. I only had to lower the bridge (like 1/2 an inch…it was ridiculously high…surprised the strings didn't break) and once I did that all was good. I've only had it now for three days, but this is very likely going to become my go-to guitar. In humbucker mode, with distortion, it is simply the best sounding guitar I've ever owned. Period. And the single-coil mode (which I haven't played with too much yet, but have tried it out to see how it works) makes this guitar much more well-rounded to different styles. I always wanted a Les Paul, but didn't want to spend thousands to get one. I still can't believe how reasonable the price was. My only regret is not buying this model sooner!!!William
I had a hard time choosing between the antique finish or the desert burst, they both look awesome. The guitar was set up pretty well right out of the box. Tuned and played right away. No buzzing, intonation was spot on and no tuning issues. The grovers are smooth and hold the tune well. A few things I noticed that I did not like were the tone and volume control knobs were set at all different heights and one was actually rubbing the top of the body. It was with some difficulty, that I managed to get that particular one up and in a good position without marring the finish. The others I adjusted to a matched height about 3/32 off the body. Looks fine now. Now I know while I didn't purchase a US made Les Paul and shouldn't expect perfection, I was disappointed that the guitar body is made of several pieces of wood glued together. But the real issue is they show what appears to be a one piece solid mahogany in the rear view picture but in fact it's just a thin mahogany laminate covering three glued together pieces underneath. I suppose on the desert burst model you'd hardly notice any difference in the color of the finish but on the antique finish it clearly doesn't match. Is this enough for me to send it back? Well no, I can live with it as it has no effect on the guitars sound and I don't regularly stare at the backside anyway. Just thought I was getting a one piece mahogany body. I did point this out to the customer service rep and told them they should clearly point this out so others aren't surprised like I was. For the price I paid, I'm satisfied. The fit and finish is every bit as good as my US made Les Paul Classic. Other than those little issues, it's a solid well built awesome sounding guitar and I really enjoy the coil splitting feature as well. At less than one third of the cost of the real one, this is a real deal. I'd give it five stars if it wasn't for the laminated back, but it's still a great deal on a great playing/ sounding guitar.JimmyD

This thing is SWEET! Like reeaalllyy sweet. I have a solid body LP in my arsenal but the shoulder-wear gets to be a bit of an issue especially for practicing, this little guy? Play all day. The build quality is tremendous, the finish is gorgeous, the hardware is enough chrome to make late 90's rappers jealous. The only part I swapped out from stock was the bridge. I went with a TonePros locking tune-o-matic and instantly this thing went from good sustain to like, walk away and drink a coffee, come back and the guitar is still singing sustain. I bought mine as an open box level 1. The only flaw worth mentioning is a small finish crack on the fret binding at the 4th fret, not sure if this happened in the factory, with the previous "owner" or during shipping, to be honest it doesn't bother me in the slightest, if anything it makes me want to actually PLAY the thing and not just stare at it longingly as it sits in a case because i'm afraid I might make it imperfect in some way. Bottom line; you should own one of these.Daybone
IMHO there are two major considerations when grading a guitar.(1. Quality (2. Cost If I grade a guitar with five stars, (I do this one) it doesn't mean that I think it's the best in the world or even the best I've played. It does mean that at this price, this is way up top. 1. finish. I found no faults at all and it is beautiful. 2. Mechanical: Nothing broken, Nothing Bent, Nothing loose (so far). The frets are a little sharp on the ends but at this price range about as good as it gets. As mentioned by others, the tuning slips just a little, but I personally think this will take care of itself. If it doesn't and I find it to be really an issue with me, the guitar is worth new tuners. 3. Playability: It's like the guy in Indonesia new exactly what I wanted in a guitar. String height is perfect. Intonation is within a couple of hertz on every string and I mean this literally (my ear would never know the difference). For my ears the pickups are adjusted exactly where I want them. The volume of the Lows and Highs are very balanced. 4. Tone: Tone is something I've always struggled with. I'm not a great player and I have hearing difficulty so tone is something I'm working on constantly. I have a 1982 ES 335 that I believe is the best sounding guitar around; it will sound any way your talents will take it. I wanted this to sound like my 335: it doesn't and I don't believe it ever will but the tone that it does have is very pleasing and very versatile for just about any type of music. The coil splits are more fun for me than useful but I think for a professional they would really be useful. A Diehard Les Paul solid body lover may scoff at this new innovation.,,,,,,but just until they play it. You may get the idea that I like this Florentine and that would be a fact but keep in mind that all reviews are subjective and each guitar has it's own individual sound just as each player has their own likes and skill level. I'm not a good player and I need an easy playing. This is my guitar and I would buy it again.oge
I have had an older version of this same guitar for ten years and is my go-to secret weapon. I can't say enough about mine. Like all Epiphones you have to find a good one. By that I mean play several and pick the one that feels the best. There's always a remarkable difference between them – more than any other guitar. I won't list all my other guitars, but a lot of people can't believe this is my favorite model. The only thing that greatly improved mine was switching out the pickups for Duncan 59s. This thing now sounds so hot that you can't put it down. I'm not kidding, this thing is a steal if you get a good one. Your $5000 guitars may come and go – if you are ever lucky enough to have them – but this one stays where you can grab it when that riff comes to you at all hours of the day. You can't go wrong quite simply if you follow my advice; most importantly to swap the first one for a second if it's not right. You'll know when you hit the jackpot like I did. BTW, that swapping them out goes for all Epiphone guitars. If you were to line up ten, one will be much better than the others. I know stuff after many years and lots of guitars. I got this guitar in sparkling burgundy and the finish is beautiful. The workmanship on this guitar is great; it feels very high quality. The fretwork is also really good, with no fret ends sticking out to cut my hands. That being said, the pickups are not very good. I initially debated purchasing the guitar since it sounded very ice-picky and thin when I played it in the store. But I decided to take a chance, knowing the return policy that GC has. I brought it home and the first thing I did was go over it completely. The fretboard was very dry. Even my wife, who doesn't play guitar, looked at it and commented on that. So removed the strings and polished the frets and cleaned/conditioned the fretboard. Then I swapped out the Alnico Classic Pro pickups, which are rather bad, and put in a set of Probucker 2/3 pickups that I had sitting around. Better strings, polished frets, and some nicer alnico 2 pickups made a huge difference. It sounds full and thick and warm, and it plays like an angel. I highly recommend it, as long as you can swap out the pickups.Robert
I've been looking for the right Epiphone SG for years now, but it's been difficult to find one that I loved the feel of. I love this guitar. The neck feels fantastic. The fit and finish are very high quality. The pickups are great, if a little muddy at the neck, and they drive my Hot Rod DeVille just right. The split coils are decent and you really can get a workable single coil sound from it if you want. It sounds surprisingly close to my 40th Anniversary Stratocaster even though there is still a noticeable difference. The only real upgrade I'm thinking of is some locking Grovers in nickel, but the stock tuners are serviceable. I took a really close look at the Fender Classic Vibe Telecasters with humbuckers, but Epiphone is just crushing it with their Inspired By Gibson line. If you've always dreamed of owning a Solid Guitar, you owe it yourself to play one of these.Dustin
I saw the deal on the 4th of July at $399 but I wasn't sure if I should jump in it without testing one out. So I decided to take a ride to my local Guitar Center and check one out. Let me say the quality felt great and the tone sounded great and I was sold at the price. I own 2 Gibson SG Standards and this Epiphone hits all the marks. The tone sounds great clean or dirty and the setup was perfect out of the box. I did change the strings and tuned them to D standard. The guitar will last for years and I think it's a definite buy. Do not sleep on the new Epiphone guitars.Michael

Received this guitar in great condition. It did need minor setup as would be expected. The guitar was finished very nicely and even had a rolled fret job on fretboard. I did pull the pickups and wiring covers while setting it up and it does have CTS pots with hand soldered point to point wiring as advertised. Plays great and the P-90 sounds awesome. Epiphone did a great job at reproducing this pre 62 Coronet. That being said, they used the post 62 compensated wrap around tailstop bridge which was a nice touch.Happy Go Eppie
Overall: I have purchased a lot of guitars in my life, many from you all. Let me say, that this Epiphone Coronet(red cherry), blows a lot of them away. I'm talking Fender, and Gibson alike. I mean, $399.99! Give me a break! I think it could probably go for $599.99 easily. i wouldn't be surprised to see the price go up eventually ,Anyway, I digress. First of all, right out of the box, the action was almost perfect. Intonation seemed to be pretty decent as well. The fret ends were not sharp at all( unlike some of the fenders I have purchased), and they are polished nicely. The P-90 screams, even through my little pig nose amp. Unbelievable. Overall: I eas in the market for a Firebird but did not like the Gibson bird without banjo tuners and the cheap out headstock so I elected for a Epi instead. Now..rather procure a few more VRS a single Gibson.I ordered mine as a Blem and must say..once again as Ive bought Blems before.Their was NOTHING WRONG with this bird.I suspect the original buyer did not like the color and returned it with claiming blemish as the excuse. Nothing was blemished. Ive expirienced this before with Kramers purchest here. The finish is..well pretty much army drab olive green as the color name states.. Looks ready kool and diffrent. It will grow on one even if one dont like the photos and reveiw vids. The set up is good. The fret work is SUPURB. And the fit and funish is top quality surpassing the dredded bankrupt era american Gibsons. And equal to todays. Sounds like a bird should. Little bright. They all were since day one in 1963. The vibratory impeadence is very long and strong even unplugged. Ive allready ordered a blank truss cover. The Orange drop caps work with hi fi quality as the roll off is full ranged. Very pleased. Hey freinds with all respects please stop returning stuff as blems due to other personal reasons. zZounds dont deserve that.This offering of the new firebird is allmost to good for their own good. So good I shall buy another instead of the Gibson firebird. Buy far the best of the Gibson inspired series. My other guitars are jelouse and wont let this bird rack with just yet. They will adapt. Serouosly. This is a must have . And yes…….The G***** 2020 Firebird truss cover fits exactly if that is a factor to you. Mine shall be blank for other reasons. As an Allen Collins fan I have long admired the Firebird but never really wanted one. After reading about the specs on these 2020 versions I became intrigued. This guitar has true “through-neck” construction and a beautiful sunburst finish. The pickups are rumored to be the same ones in the JB firebird and are so good. Very articulate and very responsive. Some have said the neck is too chunky but I don’t find that to be the case at all. CTS pots are good with a pronounced boost around 9. The fret ends were good and the intonation was set pretty darn close. I have no complaints about this guitar and I’m so happy I got it. I think this may be one of those models that will be very sought after once word gets around.Sparky’s Dad
Sound: when I unpacked it the nut was off, so a little super glue and I was in business. Then the shock…the frets hadn't been leveled, the edges were sharp. it was like they had just slapped it together. It has a great sound and when I do the fret work it should be great. Still for the money it will be a great player when I finish it. I thought it would have come with a gig bag but alas it did not. Well here's another 250 dollars for two new cases for the two I ordered. Overall: Upon unpacking first thing was the nut was off it. A little super glue and I was in business. Suprise…the fret work wasn't done. Frets were unleveled and the sides were sharp enough to cut your fingers. It had a good sound to not have a good set up, once I get the work done and set up it will be a great guitar. It didn't come with a gig bag so now I have to buy two cases for the two new ones I bought. Well away to do the fret work and set up.

Beautiful 2017 gibson firebird studio t in tobacco sunburst. there is a slight blemish to the paintwork just above the neck pickup which is covered up by the phoenix sticker. see photos for details. otherwise in stunning condition. really beautiful guitar. comes with fitted epiphone hard case as the 2017 gibsons didnt come with hard cases. this guitar plays beautifully. lovely finish on the frets. neck is really stunning (see pics). sounds and plays like a classic. as this is the studio t version it comes with full sized humbuckers.

I bought mine in cardinal red. It's a show stopper. The color takes this iconic guitar and makes it unforgettable. I plugged it in and I was in love. The pickups are hotter than i expected, something along the lines of a Gibson Explorer. Two word to describe them, powerful and clear. My only issue is the grover tuners. They go out of tune faster than i'd like. Unlike the standard Firebird, this Firebird Studio is designed to be a working musicians instrument. It's light weight, the neck is thin and comfortable, the instrument is not neck heavy, and it features traditional tuners and humbuckers. I appreciate Gibson for making these changes, because i wouldn't have jumped a Firebird Studio otherwise.Jeff
Came in well set up but had a problem with the toggle switch that had obviously been looked at by somebody before I received it because the plastic over the pick guard had been pulled back. It just wasn't fixed and was sent out as new guitar anyway. Wasn't too impressed with the gig bag either. Mono and Reunion Blues have nothing to fear from this one. Should come with a hard case.Jeff

This got this guitar in the mail today, so I'm basing this review off first impressions, but so far so good. The bag is excellent quality. People are whining about the lack of case. Whatever. We whined last year when the prices were to high. Now the prices are lower and you still get a quality carrying case. Can't have it both ways. I really like the pickups. Great string and note definition. Can handle power chords, barre chords, single notes and what not really well. Don't get farty when cleaned up. Great balance and brightness. Tone knobs work to reign in any unwanted treble. The finish is great, fretwork is top notch, and the headstock is killer. Tuners are cool. Probably be a learning curve when changing strings, but keeps us on our toes. Overall I think the Firebird is an excellent value. I play garage/blues/rock and this will work just fine in many different situations. It's not for everyone, but if you're looking for a cool guitar this is the one. It'll take time adjusting to the offset body and the thicker-ish neck, but that's nothing.Mikey Mike

The Plek'd fingerboard has a super low, buzz-free action. The slim tapered neck has easy access to the 22nd fret. The mini humbuckers sound great and are very quiet. They produce a clear gutsy and low noise tone. I own many Gibson's. This has quickly become one of my favorites. I've been playing professionally over 45 years. I play over 475 shows a year. (no, it's not a typo). In fact, I currently hold a Guinness world record for most theatrical performances by a musician (male) for playing over 10,000 shows for a world renowned show in Las Vegas. Not too bright but never lost in the mix. Gibson continues to put out top quality instruments and continues to be a leader in musical instrument manufacturing. A year ago they went a little over board with the min-e tune systems and features that the customers didn't need or ask for. Today that's changed into bringing the kind of product the customer wants and is willing to pay for, based on quality. I opted to buy a SKB hard shell case. i am not a fan of gig bags because I do take my instruments out to gigs. Bags won't protect my instruments from clumsy roadies. haha. The Firebird also has a unique and fascinating tuning system from Steinberger. The tuners have a 40:1 ratio and really keep the instrument in tune with the locking mechanism. I am impressed with the weight of the Firebird too. The vintage guitars had banjo tuners and could feel a little top heavy to certain players, depending on tastes of course. This guitar was setup perfectly right out of the box and I believe they use the PLEK process to finish the frets. So, in my opinion, this is the best bang for the buck for a legendary instrument that has stood the test of time. check it out.

Horrible! This is such a wasted effort by GIBSON to even produce this guitar. I went through three units from MF and each unit had substantial faults. I bought a Blackberry, Pellham Blue and a Faded Pellham Blue unit. #1: Paint blemishes………..each unit had light and dark rough areas from poor paint work. There was impressions in the paint from being handled prior to curing. #2: Body routing………..was not consistent and very uneven around the entire perimeter. #3: Low output pickups……….The DS-C pickups measured just 7.25ohm across all three units I had. The bridge and neck pups are the same. They are stamped GIBSON on the underside but have a paper sticker displaying a different model number for each. They are exactly the same! #4: Improper pickup sizing……….the pups are designed as a one size fits all method which means they all measure exactly 48mm's pole spacing, yet the bridge spacing is 52mm's. This does not allow for correct string oscillation (and poor alignment). #5: Poor tuners………the tuners are 14-1 ratio and do not hold tuning well. I tried down tuning and they still had to be retuned after several minutes. #6: Cheap Head-stock design………it's a piece of plastic laminated to the wood (had poor routing on the edges). The truss rod cover is painted logo, not embossed. #7: Broken components……….one of the units came with a defective 3-way switch and another had screws falling out of the pick guard plastic. How does that get past QC Gibson? #8: Fret boards were unfinished………one unit had sanding dust still one it and another looked as though it was never finished out. It was as rough as an old rustic barn wall. The frets weren't dressed properly either. #9: Improper balance……..neck dives because GIBSON routed out TOO MUCH of the body cavity for the electronics. Hint to GIBSON = Less is More. #10: High action………could not be resolved. #11: Cheap metal components. GET THE PICTURE FOLKS?Speedforhire
Where to start. Loved this axe right off the wall. Great acoustic qualities. Easy on the shoulder with very good strap balance. 3 days later realized it needed some upgrades to truly live up to the Gibson logo on the headstock. I use a '65 Blackface Deluxe at low volumes, no pedals, and let the gear do their thing… This Bird fell short of what I expect. After a set of Gotoh nickle tuners, lightening bar bridge w/lags & studs, DR Pure Blues 11s, nickle covered P94 (neck), nickle covered 498 (bridge), CTS 300K linear pots, .002 Panasonic poly film cap as a treble bleed, .022 Orange Drop 100v cap for tone, vintage shielded wiring, Schaller mushroom head strap buttons, fret ends groomed, enlarge the side markers, shellac soak & buff the fret board, wet sand & buff the satin neck finish, wet sand & buff that stupid looking gloss from the body finish, Top hat knobs with pointers… This axe has the look & snap you'd expect from a neck thru Bird. Very sweet voice. Solid & stable on stage. I still want to knock some height & put a shoulder only crown on the frets. I'll put an amber toner on the neck at the same time. That can wait until a bit more of a break-in period. Still have less then 750. in it & it sounds, looks & plays like a million. How great a deal is that?Joe
I've read a LOT of negative reviews about these guitars.. fortunately, I decided to try it for myself. The ONLY way you will not enjoy this guitar is if you are expecting an expensive customshop instrument. There are obviously differences between a customshop guitar and a budget model, but NONE of the things I've read about these are accurate. It's a well constructed American made guitar.. quartersawn maple neck, poplar body, rosewood fingerboard. The bridge adjusts and intonates perfectly, the electronics and pickups work well and sound decent. There are NO corners cut on these guitars.. they are designed to be inexpensive to meet a price point and do this perfectly. If you are expecting a vintage holy grail instrument with all of the bells and whistles you will be disappointed (and probably aren't very clever). If you are expecting a decent instrument on a budget, you will be very pleasantly surprised.. I have MANY Gibsons that run the gammut from vintage to customshop reissues to floyd rose equipped Les Paul Axcess and I am very satisfied with this guitar. I recommend treating yourself and buying one, they are a joy to play.the realist

I had a red 2012-ish era Casino for a few years that I liked but didn't love. I was a big fan of the overall vibe of hollow-body plus 2 P90s, but the pickups were a little dark, and it didn't play very well (small cramped neck, some fit and finish issues, fret buzz even after a professional setup, etc). I ordered this new model back in December and just received it last week (7 months later). It was absolutely worth the wait. It fixes everything I didn't love about the previous model – better sounding pickups, wider neck, improved fit and finish. I wouldn't consider myself a "real" guitar player (mostly just play for songwriting and recording projects), but this new Casino is extremely fun to play and has reignited some of the passion I had for playing back in my teens. The techs at CME clearly did a great job setting up the action before shipping, and the color is truly unique and handsome – my partner has remarked several times about how beautiful of an instrument it is! First ever guitar that was perfectly setup out of the box. Not only is the fit and finish perfect, all it needed was to be tuned and played. I tried to do some setup, but I couldn't improve on it. It plays as smoothly as any guitar I've ever handled and I love the tone of the P90s on the hollow body. I've had it about two weeks. It took a while to get the hang of the breakup levels through my tube amps. It's definitely different than the humbuckers on my Gibsons. The finish is rich and deep. I have a Chinese Casino in the same finish, but you can tell the difference between them from a distance. Look closely and the USA is absolutely gorgeous. The difference in sound between the two is like night and day and I used to like the way the Chinese one sounded. I haven't found any flaws in fit or finish. I got it out of the box and put my gauges on it. Everything was in spec so I tuned it up. It was a half step low all the way around. Tuned up, the intonation was perfect. I've just been playing it ever since and it gets a little more comfortable every day. I love the neck and being light as a feather doesn't hurt either. This will be my gigging guitar for the foreseeable future.RTonka
Sound: YES COMPARABLE TO MORE EXPENSIVE MODELS THE AMERICAN MADE P90s sound outstanding….However the chrome finish wore OFF in just a few months. And the finish on the GUITAR BODY scratches VERY easy..The bridge saddles move on their own while playing..I would LOOK into that ..or change it to a roller bridge. It plays MUCH smoother and no more adjustments had to be made tuning machines are a little on the loose side .The pickup select switch on mine sometimes DOESN'T ALWAYS make a good connection on the bridge pick up (although I believe it's a switchcraft switch ) Also it took about a month of playing before the BLACK residue from the fingerboard stopped coming up on my fingers. But besides all that minor stuff I love the guitar… and is there any way you could bring the Cutaway up more about four frets?? Overall: It plays and sounds BEAUTIFUL…however the chrome finish wore off rather quickly…also the saddles in the bridge had to be reajusted frequently because they moved on their own.. Also went out of tune alot BUT..OTHERWISE plays like silk and I absolutely love the sustainability and sound of the P-90sLarry

In good used condition. does have some scratches and dings, as seen in the pics. a previous owner changed the truss rod cover to a gibson one. there's a finish repair on the edge of the headstock. frets have some wear but the action is great on this guitar with no issues. tuners are all super smooth, except the high e string. it tunes fine and easy, but feels gritty when turning it. holds tune perfect though. electronics tested and working. pickups have scratches on the covers. neck is good and straight. great player!!! up today we have a killer limited edition epiphone firebird studio. these were only made for a short time in the mid 2000s. and are extremely rare. guitar plays and sounds excellent! a previous owner changed the truss rod cover to a gibson one. the high e tuner feels a little "gritty" when turning it to tune the guitar, but it turns easy and holds tune perfect. rest of the tuners are super smooth with tuning. besides some dents, some fret wear, and a touch up/re…
