Yes, the tonal range is great, especially the piezo pickup, nicely playable and overall looks and finish seem perfect. But, with nicely contoured access to the high notes let down by the overly large neck heal which starts a fret or two earlier than my other electric guitars. Another annoyance is the very cheap knobs which don't sit straight on the pots. I have a guitar costing a tenth of the price with better fitting knobs. The battery compartment is a bad joke of a design, as the battery holder comes out with the wires attached, you then have to prise up the battery from its contacts and the lever it out for replacement. Overall these are minor annoyances on what is a great guitar but, at this price I expected better. Oh yes, it came with a hard case. Which doesn't fit properly and with no tags or brand markings so who knows what it was made for. It did come with two loose bits of foam, one which was floating around unsure of its purpose.Kevin L.
I received the Black Gold Burst version about a week ago. It's a BEAUTIFUL guitar. The pictures don't do it justice. The f-holes really add to the appearance. Fender ALSO makes a hollowbody guitar, but they went the round sound hole direction, which, IMHO, is hokey looking. The sound is INCREDIBLE! I have 4 other electric guitars, including a Fender American Standard Strat, Gibson Les Paul, Gibson SG and an Ibanez Prestige- They are ALL wonderful guitars, and each has its own personality, in how they play AND how they sound. THIS guitar has a sound that TRANSCENDS ALL of my other guitars. There are a number of videos on YouTube. BUT, as with the appearance, they simply DO NOT do it justice. The humbucker pickups ALONE produce a sound that is CLEAR and RESONANT. Adding the sound from the piezo pickup sends it over the top! ABSOLUTELY MARVELOUS. I was a little reluctant to purchase a guitar made in China. However, the CONSTRUCTION and FINISH are PERFECT! PLUS, the cost is WAAAY less than the equivalent US-made version. I went to guitar center with 1k cash to buy a guitar as a tribute to my recently passed grandmother who always loved hearing me play. I went in planning on playing everything until something spoke to me. I played some guilds and X series martins and also This PRS. I ended up walking back to look at the amps again but the way that PRS felt and sounded was sticking with me. After a couple hours or trying nearly everything in the store I asked if I could have the employee unlock some of the American Taylors and martins from the top shelf. Im a huge Taylor fan but while I waited I played the PRS cause it wasn't locked. I put the PRS down and when I played the 2000$ Taylor it didn't feel or sound as good as the PRS. By the end of my multiple hour stay at guitar center, that PRS haunted me in the exact way I went in there hoping for, and it's the best acoustic i've ever played, even though its from china. The blue wasn't my favorite at first but by the time I bought it, it had already grown on me to the point that I wouldn't have it any other way. Seriously, don't buy online, go in to a store that has the on display and play it. If it speaks to you, buy the one that you played. This guitar is awesome. I was actually really surprised right out of the box how playable it was. Feel like usually when you get a new guitar you have to get it set up to really see it shine, but this thing right away is super playable. Was definitely surprised how light this thing was also, its crazy, it looks like it'd be heavy but its lighter than even my strat. (this could be a good or bad thing depending on what you want imo). It reminds me a lot of my Les Paul, but the reliability of it staying in tune right away along with it being WAY lighter has definitely impressed me. In my own personal opinion it has taken all the good things about a les paul classic and done them better. Similar price, similar tones, but doesnt have those typical gibson issues that those guitars usually come with. Highly recommend, it sounds great, plays great, and feels great. Only complaint is that they should release some better finishes. But otherwise, who cares, its awesome.Graham
The PRS DGT is an artist spec'd guitar that belongs to the McCarty linage of instruments. Studio guitarist Tim Pierce says it's the best PRS, which has also been noticed in the guitar collection of Nashville studio ace Bret Mason. This Core model is top-notch and features exquisite build quality. The pickups were prototyped 40 times and are reminiscent of a Les Paul, ES-335, and Telecaster. The five-spring vibrato bar provides a nice shimmer with the signature .11 gauge string set. The fret dress is exclusive to this model, a requirement of David Grissom. Overall: Like someone else said, right now, this is my favorite. I'm quick to pick it up and play without plugging it in. Plugged in it has an awesome tonal range. Using in my DAW with LogicPro it's really easy to get quiet, noiseless tones but still the crunch and sting when you want. The neck fits my hand perfectly. Overall, the quality is what you would expect. One issue to be aware of. Could be my clumsiness, but I've noticed that small chips have developed on the bottom edge where it rests in my guitar stand. Stand has rubber over the prongs but I still I wish the finish was heavier or maybe clear coated somehow over the antique finish. All i all I would buy it again.
Been playing for 20 years and I've had my fair share of instruments. This guitar is a cut above many in its price point. USA built, solid construction and rings like a bell. No it's not a core model that looks fancy but, you get all the goods of a PRS. Pickups in this are not really suited for metal out of the box but, you can go old school and boost it and get that saturated goodness. But if your thing is rock, hard rock, blues, country etc this guitar will be awesome in your arsenal. I was scared that the neck would be thin but when I opened the bag and grabbed the guitar, I was greeted with a full neck that fits like glove in my hand. Thin necks aren't my thing and never have been. However says you need a slim neck to play fast is wrong it only makes it a bit easier for some hand types. Bottom line, great guitar, great sound and amazing build quality. Grab one!Brian B
I had 10 guitars of varying build quality prior to buying this PRS. Everything from high end squires to Mexican Fenders and USA G&Ls. This guitar blew me away. The fit and finish are superb. Every tone is usable, it's resonant, it looks and plays like a dream. I ended up selling all but one G&L v12 and this Vela. Then I bought a few "key guitars" that I knew I'd like to have in the long run based on previously owned instruments. I snagged a Pro II Strat, a G&L ASAT, and a Relish that I got on sale here at Sweetwater. I now have only five guitars, but I am thrilled with them all. This swap was all due to playing a truly great guitar, this Vela, and remembering that quality matters. If you love a guitar you'll play it more and enjoy the experience in a slightly different way. The Vela is my number one. It's fantastic. Light, great sounds from each pickup, and neck is a joy to play. Love it, and now I love them all. Thanks for the help Jason Filloramo.

I got this guitar on September 14th, 2021, and have had some minor issues with it. When I receive this guitar, it was perfect. Not a single case of fret buzz, the nut was perfect, and it was an all around great guitar. However, after about a month. I realized the tuners were a bit out of wack. I would be a bit flat, and turn the tuning peg over and over and over, only to not tighten the string at all. Then when I finally did one last turn, I'd be sharp by a whole note! Whatever, just replace the tuners. I had been putting that off. The next issue was a bit weird. I play really hard, and over time, the bridge pins were starting to get loose, and eventually a whole screw came out, and I had to take the guitar to a tech. I know this is probably user error, but still. I eventually just decided to turn it into a Jonny Greenwood tele, with lace sensors, a kill switch, and all. And let me tell you, this guitar is perfect now. The neck is (and always was) exactly what I was looking for. It's a bit thinner that my Squier Affinity Strat, but I like a thinner neck. Bottom line, I would recommend this guitar if your okay with getting new tuners. No one else I know has had problem with the bridge, so consider that. (P.S. I forgot to say that the stock pickups are amazing! I almost just kept them, they sound really good)Cory
As attested to by all the reviews on the Capri Orange MX Player Tele, it is a great playing guitar in its original factory form. However, I chose this guitar as the platform for Sweetwater to custom mod. In collusion with friend and Sales Engineer Jeff Jent, we determined the component upgrades of choice for the project. The oem wiring harness was replaced with the Emerson 4way switch Tele wiring harness. The additional switch position allows for the pups to play in series. The oem pups were replaced with Fender Custom Shop Twisted Tele pups. All this modification under the hood was covered up by a Fender black pearloid moto pickguard. The oem string guide was replaced with the Fender American Standard string guide. The oem control plate and knobs were kept as was the oem bridge with box saddles. I prefer the 6 box saddles bridge to the 3 saddles bridge – just a personal choice. Upon receipt of the Tele, from my personal parts box I installed Fender all short post locking tuners and Fender locking strap buttons. Since the MX Player Tele doesn't come with either a case or gig bag, I had the guitar shipped in a new Fender Elite hard case. I provided Jeff with my preferred set-up specs by the numbers and he forwarded those to the guitar technician for the final modified product set-up. Guitar technician Brandon Harper did exemplary work in putting the mod guitar together and tech supervisor Marty Flaley verified the completed modifications "nailed" by Brandon. If you desire modifications on a new guitar, don't be hesitant to turn the Sweetwater guitar technicians loose on your vision project. The techs know their trade. But in full disclosure, modified guitars are non returnable so be sure of the modifications you desire. The standard Sweetwater warranty is in place though. All of these details can be gone over with your Sales Engineer to be certain, just in case I have misspoken the rules of engagement. Thanks to Brandon for his tech expertise and Marty for the oversight (prior to his promotion, Marty was my tech of choice for set-ups on new guitar purchases). Can't say enough about my excellent relationship with my Sales Engineer Jeff Jent. He knows his gear! If you don't have an assigned Sales Engineer, call Sweetwater and ask for Jeff. If you are ever on the Sweetwater campus, ask to personally meet your Sales Engineer and guitar tech. I've had that pleasure and glad to call them friends. OH, and what about the orange Tele? It feels, handles and plays great. It is on par with my Elite and Ultra Teles (except slightly less expensive) as a fine crafted guitar. If you have ever wanted to do a mod guitar, pick any platform and turn the guitar techs loose. My new Tele is a Sweetwater Custom Mod!
This is a really great deal. Unless you get lucky on Reverb or whatever you won't find a deal like this anywhere else. And let's face it–you need a Telecaster! It's as basic as a Stratocaster. Even more so. It's so versatile and has a bright (but not too bright) sound. It's HIGHLY customizable. The shape of the neck is very comfortable for both rhythm and lead play. I'd even go so far as to tell you to make this your kids' (or YOUR) first guitar. For one thing, it's a Fender. The build quality is rock solid. It's really designed to be a lifetime instrument. Cons–really just the shade of the neck itself. It's a little pale. But that's just me. Not only that, but later on you can purchase another Fender neck and just replace it. (It's easy.) Don't let this absolute steal for a real Fender Tele get away from you. You'll thank me.

I've always wanted a PRS and now I have one it was worth the wait. The range of tones, the sensitivity of the controls, the playability are all top notch. Not to mention it looks stunning. Out of the box it was all nicely set up, low action and very very playable. I've switched from the stock 9s to 10s and it sounds perfect. I've never been one for coil taps…all the others I have stay firmly in humbucker territory but there's something about these which really work for me – putting one in coil tap and then switching to the middle position is a tone I've not had on any other guitar and one I shall be using a lot. This is the first prs I’ve ever owned and I have to say if this is the quality prs puts out for their SE line, I can only imagine how good the core models are! I mostly play heavier stuff (djent, deathcore, death metal, etc.) and with the right eq settings these pickups do just fine. But they really shine with lower gain and crunch scenarios. I love playing jazz or doing some chicken pickin with the multiple sounds you can get out of the wiring setup. Superrrr versatile, very well built for an Indo guitar. My only complaint is the glossy neck, since I mostly play leads. But that can be solved fairly easily. It’s an easy guitar to play and it plays like butter. Stays in good tune even with whammy abuse. No sharp fret ends, fret buzz, high action, bad intonation etc. played great out of the box with a tuning. Now the only thing I would “upgrade” on this guitar are the tuners to locking tuners. If you are looking for a guitar that can be used on all occasions, if you are undecided and do not know which guitar to choose, if you do not know which way to go, whether a strat, super strat or a Les Paul. Selling a very nice 2014 prs mira. this one has a nice lightweight mahogany body/neck and dark rosewood fingerboard with bird inlays. the guitar has some small nicks/dings/scratches in the vintage cherry finish but overall it's still in very good shape. the frets show almost no wear and this guitar plays, sounds, and looks great. guitar has nice low and easy action and plays cleanly up and down the neck. the original pickups sound great and all controls work as they should. guitar looks to be completely stock and comes in an older hardshell case. the weight on this one is very comfortable at 6.49 lbs! no trade offers please.

So this is my first PRS and I took a gamble on getting an import SE model. Normally I prefer US made Gibsons and have got used to the fit and finish on those. So with that said that should put you into my mindset. So the finish is spectacular no blemishes, runs, or bubbles. So if you’re looking for a wall hangar yes! Now into the playability, the frets are finished and smoothed out perfectly. The fretboard is channel bound and rolled, so it feels really good. The tuners feel like real tuners, meaning not wiggly and they all have consistent turn pressure (not too loose, not too tight) hopefully they’ll stay that way, but since they are to standard PRS specs, easy replacement with an upgraded tuner if need be. The bridge is solid with brass saddles, feels great against the palm with no sharp edges. Wood under transparent finish has a little bit of movement and a nice grain. Electronics leave something to be desired. The push pull tone pot rolls like a skateboard wheel while the volume has a nice resistance with consistent roll. The selector switch is middle of the road, not great, but not “I have to replace this now”. However with electronics easily swappable this is not a negative mark at this price point. So to summarize everything wood that can’t be fixed doesn’t need to be, electronics are going to get you down the road but are candidates for full upgrade. For $699 this is a solid guitar and I have no regrets. It will stay in my rack.Clay

This guitar fits that bill and the some! Outstanding value for an American made guitar! This guitar is what I love: simple, solid build, can play literally everything, is very easy to play and setup, and sounds ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I literally play every genre: Metal, Classic Rock, Country, R&B, Worship, Funk, Blues, Jazz, Pop, etc. This guitar handles all those flawlessly! I've played guitar for 56 years and I have to confess that I'm not the player who hangs on to any guitar forever. I still have my first guitar, but I even sold it as a kid, but got it back later. Early in 2020 I decided to sell all my electric gear to buy the best acoustic I've ever owned, because as this stage in life – that is what I perform with. Toward the end of this summer I was getting close to the last payment on the acoustic and felt a tug to get another electric, but not one that would break the bank. Since 2004 my electric guitars were typically PRS core models (some 10 tops) or Don Grosh custom models (and Grosh guitars will always be my all time favorite). At this time I couldn't afford the Grosh I wanted, and though I could have pulled off a more high end PRS, I knew that I've always felt that the gorgeous flame tops were too flashy for me. The PRS S2 Standard 22 offered the pickup combo I wanted and the coil tap option. I wanted a trem and I wanted a simple finish. On top of that "made in America" was a must. Having enjoyed PRS necks and quality build, the S2 was a good sound choice for a guitar I could pay off in a few months. The pickups can sing, and I can dial in many tone options. I'll admit that I hoped the split coil feature would be bolder, but I'll be using the full humbucker mode 99% of the time. The pickups can rock, do jazz, country-fry your licks and even though others say they won't – I've dialed in some serious metal. Playing around the other day with a new pre-amp, I found myself with that amazing feedback you hear on many Larry Carlton tunes. I also need to mention that the trem and locking tuners wrok great and you won't find this combo on many USA guitars in this price range. Sustain, resonance, comfort, great frets and a ba-zillion other things that make this a wonderful guitar. These compliments come from a player who has owned many guitars now selling for $3500 to $4800 dollars.Jon

I first started playing guitar around the age of 15. Recalling the first experience of being on the stage was definitely thrilling. I remember that I sometimes forgot to breathe while playing, often switched to a wrong pedal, and even had to bend down to pick up the pick I had dropped. I got this PRS 509 after seven years of playing as a christmas gift, and things worked out way better while jamming in my bedroom. An awesome gear don't make you a professional guitarist overnight, but I still feel awkward and curious about where that courage and skill have come from at all of sudden. I bought this a few months ago (elsewhere). Mine has a translucent cherry finish (beautiful). Its offset body reminds me of a Salvador Dali painting, or a drunken SG. Sound/tone is great for everything. I noticed it produces a very subtle/natural/cool "feed-back" that is easily avoidable when needed, but is also welcomed when creating. It's pretty light weight, and balanced nicely. The neck/fingerboard feels comfortable. The open-back tuners are great and hold their own. The pick-ups are pretty unique sounding – thin to thick. Very fun and minimalistic controls that are highly functional and create a diverse array of tone. This axe screams: "Look at me. Listen to me".NoChrome66
I have been wanting the Gretsch version of this guitar but couldn't and wouldn't put that much money out, however I am glad they re-issue this Guild model from the 60's. I found it to be fun to play, responsive and the looks of the Vintage Sunburst is awesome. Definitely a keeper and will sing many genres of music with this fine Korean guitar.JSTJEAN

I am sure this is a 5 star guitar but due to Musicians Friend 1 star performance I wouldn't know. I placed my order on Monday Sept 6. Item was listed "In Stock and ready to ship" on MF website, "Most items ship same day if order placed before 3 PM". I placed my order before 3 PM but is was Labor Day and I certainly wouldn't expect them to ship on a holiday. On Tuesday Sept 7 I received a confirmation email that the order was received. Then radio silence for the next 2 days. On Thursday September 9th I contacted them by chat asking about the status of the order. Immediately prior to initiating the chat I checked the website and it still listed the guitar as In stock and ready to ship. They looked up the order and told me the guitar was out of stock but they are expecting a shipment soon. So I get that just because an item is indicated as in stock on the website at any given moment, it may not be. I have no problem with that. I assumed that the website is not updated in real time and that's ok. Interestingly after the chat I refreshed the MF webpage and suddenly it said the guitar was out of stock but expected soon. Interesting. So I said ok I will be patient. Three days go by and no update from MF. I contacted them again via chat. This time they say they are expecting a new shipment to arrive on Tuesday 9/14. Sounds good thank you very much and I'm thinking they might ship to me by Wed 9/15. Wed 9/15 rolls around and still radio silence. I check the website. Guitar is now once again listed as In stock and ready to ship. What's the deal? It's been over a week since I placed a $3600 order and not a single MF-initiated email to tell me what's going on and what the delay is. I contact MF again via chat. Lo and behold, it is still out of stock! So wrong info given on previous chat, completely false info on their website. I have a minor tantrum. Chat person says she is contacting a store where they might have on in stock. She is very apologetic (continued below)Disappointed

This guitar is a breath of fresh air, something different from my collection of Strats, Les Pauls, Wilshires, etc. I love the looks and the sounds even better. The humbucker modes are strong and tasteful, the single coils are not quite a Strat but different enough to provide a great alternative sound. The mix of both provide lots of options. I have small hands and always went for thin necks especially the Gibson trim tapers but this thicker neck actually feels and plays great. I am amazed by the quality of modern guitars and the success of American builders who provide less expensive options through foreign manufacturing. We are living in the golden era of guitars – Thanks PRS!
I want to start by saying I did not get it from GC. I got it from another site where they had a charcoal option. This is a review on the guitar and not the supplier. They say a good guitar isn't necessary how it looks. I also read a lot about "a PRS sounds somewhere between a Les Paul and a Strat." For some reason people hold these sounds as the "gold standard" for musical guitar tone. Now I don't know about that either. What I can tell you is that what makes this a good guitar is how inspiring it is and how creative it's making me play. I don't know how to describe it- maybe a more experience person can weigh in (I've been playing on and off for a few years) but I seem so much more creative in my playing when I'm jamming with this as compared to my Gibson SG standard or Fender Player. At the end of the day, you want a guitar that not only sounds great (which this absolutely does) but also feels great and inspires you to play out of your norm. It does not have as much rock power when distorted when compared to my SG, so if you're looking for a rock heavy guitar, I don't know if this is for you. But it sounds incredible clean (which is how I mostly play). My Player sounds great clean too, but I love the wider and thicker neck profile it has compared to my strat (I got big gorilla hands so I like a chunkier neck). I've only had this for 2 weeks but it's become my grab guitar.Robbie A
I was looking for an entry level guitar that was priced right and built well. First of all, how can you go wrong with this beautiful style. It is also very light and wont leave you with back pain after a couple hours of riffing. Tuning keys are solid without any dead spots and dont slip. The guitar stays in tune very well with only slight adjustment needed due to temperature changes. Pick up selector is smooth and not notchy. Havent used the whammy bar and have been playing with studio headphones, so sound is subjective, but as someone that has been playing several instruments for 30 years, I like to think I have a good ear. I am a 59 year old guitar player, had expensive and cheap gear over the years. I don't think I'm technically great but know how to get a good sound. When looking for a cheap guitar to sit with, my Les Paul and even my '88 Strat often got a bit uncomfortable , I decided to try one of these, you can return them after all, no trouble. What a great little guitar! Obviously GAK probably don't get these out of the box to check them, my box was still stapled shut from the factory, and this is OK at this level but I worry a beginner would be put off if the guitar is poorly set-up. First off the finish is superb, no rough edges to the frets, the colour and gloss on the body was perfect, the unvarnished neck just sits comfortably in the hand, I picked this above the more expensive 'Affinity' as apparently the nut width is a little wider. I didn't need to adjust the neck, I just cut the nut a little lower on the G,B and E strings for comfort. The frets needed a light rubbing with fine wet and dry and that was it, a perfect, light practise tool. I would even gig with this no problem. Each and every one of the tuners work smoothly and firmly. Sound wise, it sounds like a Tele to me and this is always a very subjective and personal thing anyway, I don't like overly powerful pickups (my Les Paul has '57's) I prefer to push the sound with pedals. All I can say is, if not sure, 'Buy one'. I have done nothing but played this to death since I got it 4 days ago, hard on the finger tips as I haven't played regularly for a while. I hope I haven't just got a 'good one' and would like to think any of them would be as good, all the reviews I read suggests so.Customer
Bit of a clickbait title, but I genuinely sold my Gibson SG to downsize buy a cheap guitar + a load of other bits and pieces. Do I regret it? Not in the slightest. Now obviously build quality and sound aren't to the standards of the Gibson, but this cost a fraction of the price and honestly; I've not really lost anything. 15 years ago when I started playing instruments, buying a guitar at this price was a stop gap, and generally had more faults than positives… what has changed in that time!? Squires bottom of the range guitars are infinitely better than any other guitar i have played at the same price point, and this guitar holds up against mid range guitars. So, bad points? There's a couple of minors. The neck has a single rough spot that was fixed in less than 10 seconds with a fine sand down, but that was it in terms of looks and feel. The frets are perfect, the setup out of the box literally needed a quarter of a clockwise screwdriving to sort the intonation on the low E – I've never had so little to setup on any guitar I've ever owned (Maybe I got lucky, but to think this is possible on such a cheap guitar is magical). The only 'issue' I'd say this guitar has is, the pick ups aren't very hot. They're more than reasonable, especially at the price point, but dont expect to fill out an arena with the sound. Important to point out: this guitar costs about the same as a good set of pick ups… so this actually just makes this a great project guitar as well. Lovely smooth matt neck, which i'm a huge fan of, tight neck joint, well finished frets and reasonable tuners that are better than yesteryears tuning pegs. If you're looking for a starter guitar, a project guitar, a guitar for some home studio recording, a back up guitar or something you can chuck about and have a bit of fun with, this is the one.
Earlier this year, I decided I'd like a telecaster style guitar to give me an alternative to my Fender Strat. Originally purchased a G&L tele from a firm who shall remain nameless (hint: they're named after the generic name for the things I'm talking about in this review, times two!). Unboxing said item, I was really underwhelmed – it didn't come in its original G&L packaging for starters – and I ended up sending it back. Forgot about a new guitar for a few months until I came across the Fender Squier Classic Vibe 50s in Butterscotch. Loved the understated look, a proper "classic" look in this particular finish. Read some glowing reviews, looked around for the best price and found it here at DV247. Bit the bullet, and it was delivered without a hitch a few days later (think it's shipped over from Germany). The package weighed a ton! Well packaged by DV247, and inside another sturdy box well packaged by Fender – I should have done an unboxing video! When I finally got to the guitar – a thing of beauty! Albeit understated, as I said before. The most impressive thing? All that way from Indonesia, halfway across the world to Germany, then via courier to my door – the damned thing is still in tune!!! I have always wanted a Telecaster. This Squier Tele is the BEST brand new right out of the box guitar I have ever purchased. It's Incredible sounding and good playability. The neck and bridge pickup sound great. Not only do they sound great played in the just the neck or bridge position but together they compliment each other like no other guitar I own. This Squier has a black Nut that looks like it's made from Graphite. The Bridge is not a traditional Telebridge. It has 6 individual string saddles like a Strat. No Tremolo. The only thing I will upgrade on this guitar will be to Locking Tuners if I can find some with a set screw in the (four) eight o'clock position Don't let the "Squier name discourage you. Will a Higher priced Fender sound better than this entry level Squier?Jman
I purchased 4 Squiers over the past year, a surf green Bullet Tele, a butterscotch Bullet Tele with maple neck, a surf green Bullet Mustang and this sunburst Affinity Tele with maple neck. I had no problem setting up the 3 Bullets, the Mustang is the best but the butterscotch with 9s is a blast to play. This Affinity has been a major let down. After trying every trick in the book to get the high E string to stop sounding like a sitar, and fret buzz in odd spots all over the neck I'm at a point where it's going to need new parts and some serious surgery just to make it playable. That's a chance you take when buying a bulk guitar online, you get what you get.GrandpaPete
I purchased this guitar in hopes of getting an inexpensive tele sound for recording and for live audio. The guitar came quickly and upon initial inspection, I liked the guitar. The fretboard was smooth and I thought the playability would be great. However, upon plugging the guitar in, I noticed the pickups were likely not secured as the selector switch produced no tonal differences and the tone itself was buzzing and awful. Okay, that's frustrating but I can understand these things happen. When I called musicians friend customer service, they said they don't ship return boxes and that I would need to pay for a box to have it returned. That completely goes against what I believe principally. I would rather burn the guitar for firewood than pay nearly fifty usd for a box to return it at no fault of my own. I will not purchase from musicians friend again because of their lack of clarity on this issue. It appears most people have not had the same issues so this may not be a common experience, but why take a risk when they aren't willing to correct it.Owen

I had played one of these in a store and liked the feel. After having one for a few weeks, I like it even more. I'm slightly taller than the average guy. Hence my fingers are a bit longer than the average guy. Maybe it is just because the neck seems to get thinner as you get up to the higher notes, but it seems like the neck is a little wider than the rest of my guitars up around the 15th to 24th frets. ("rest of my guitars" include Les Paul, Strat, Ibanez RG550, EVH Wolfgang, and others for reference). Aside from how great the paint job LOOKS, it does not have a gloss coat on it. This is a good thing since the paint job extends up the back of the neck allowing your hand to slide quite freely on the back of the neck. The bridge humbucker is fantastic. It screams the notes clearly with ZERO noise or hum when not playing. I'm not that impressed with the neck humbucker, but that's comparing it to the neck hum on my Les Paul, Carvin, and PRS Custom. AND, for about 90% of the 80s hair band songs you are never using that pickup anyway. The Floyd Rose is great! I got tired of waiting for it to need minor tuning adjustments naturally, so I'm to the point of TRYING to make it go out of tune even slightly and it STILL stays locked in tune. Overall, this guitar is now my GO TO for anything 80s (the biggest chunk of my playing preference).Steve
Having tried playing MANY of these in my hands, it seems that the quality control out of the Jackson Indonesia factory is hit-or-miss. If you get a good unit without problems, it is a great guitar with a great sound for a great price! And the looks are so nice as well. The neck thru body construction is so smooth and sweet. However, you might get a dud that sounds horrible. Or it might have severe defects in the neck or locking nut. In my experience, about 50% are of poor quality.
I was keen to find a 6 string that had a fixed bridge that I could use for covers and so I can retune to alternate tunings easily without having to get the screwdrivers and spending a lot of time retuning like a Locking Tremolo guitar. Thankfully the guitar already had Seymour Duncan pick ups in which are essential to having a aggressive tone but as well allow good expression so this meant it would be a case of getting the guitar out the box and playing rather than buying separate pick ups having to fit them in and so on. As I wanted a guitar that wasn't black or brightly colored the desert sand finish on the guitar really stood out and attracted me. Most of the SLP2's have a great selection of finish's. As for the neck and wood finish it is very smoothly and allows you to get quick access from from end of the neck to the other. Behind each the tuners on the headstock, there is this interesting circular turning device to help lock in the strings. This may help keep it in tune more but I also just attribute it staying in tune due to the general quality of the guitar. I bend the strings a lot for my lead playing and I play very aggressively with thick picks and rhythmically so once I put some heavier strings on (my preference) and configured the bridge saddles with a very small L shaped Allen/hex key the guitar stayed in tune.Tom H.

Overall: Not to sound over exaggerated but this guitar is phenomenal and definitely worth more than what you paid. Fret work and fret edges, amazing. Top and color, just as advertised on the PRS website. Glossy body with a glossy stinger on the back of the headstock, beautiful touch. Satin neck, ohhh so smooth puts my Gibson satin neck to shame. Controls and toggle switch, satisfyingly high quality and the best I have felt to date. Neck is PRS wide and fat, slightly thicker than a Gibson 60s neck but no where near as chunky as the Gibson 50s neck. The only thing that is subpar on this guitar are the tuners, they are not bad but compared to the rest of the guitar they are lacking. This guitar does have some weight to it, probably in the 7.5lbs – 8lbs range. This PRS is tied with my Gibson LP in Blueberry Burst for top billing. The only thing missing is the nitro smell… lol.
Overall: This is an awesome guitar! Looks great, feels great, sounds great, plays great. The finish is perfect, great book matched top and the Myers blue is beautiful. Feels and plays perfectly; neck is nice, action is nice, setup is nice. PRS goes over the top on quality control. It was in tune right out of the box! Plugged into my Orange head and has bright clean tones to a nice bark with the gain turned up. There is a reason PRS has a great reputation and it’s because of the ultra high quality even on their affordable guitars. Some people might not get over it not being a Les Paul, but this is just a flat out awesome guitar and will outshine anything in its price range all the way up to a super high end guitar.T.j.
A fantastic SE model. I have core models and various Fender Gibson Schecter Epiphone guitars. This is in my top 3. I've been playing 30+ years. Mostly hard rock and 70's bands and metal. I first bought a Jackson JS34Q Dinky DKA-M online without having seen or played it. I went to guitar Center to pick it up the next day and was blown away by how it looked. Way beyond my expectations. However, after getting home and playing it, it didn't take long for me to regret the purchase. I'm not going to go into it here, I will review that guitar separately but now you know where I'm coming from. I just dropped $400 on a guitar and was disappointed. I took it back and went right for this one. It had what the JS34 didn';t the abilityt to stay in tune and quality hardware. It looks and feels great but most importantly it sounds great. The knobs actually affect the sound wqith vewry little turning, like my Fender Strat. Mosat shred guitars I've ever owned sound good only when cranked up but these offer different levels of quality sound. The switch feels solid and knobs don't turn too easily. The neck is incredibly fast although my 6th string had a bit of a buzz when played open of all things. I'm going to have a local guy fix that tomorrow. Other than that this is my favorite guitar and I own 12 others. Prior to getting this, my fave was the Dean Dave Mustaine Angel of Death V and I still love that guitar but this one is lighter, easier to play and it inspires new riffs from me better than any of my others. I will upgrade the pick ups tho. Not sure which yet but I'll have fun trying to figure that out.Bruce M

Kudos to Fender/Squier for the paranormal concept. I love Telecaster style guitars and this one with a thinline body and jazzmaster pickups is really cool looking. The guitar is superlight (less than six pounds) and has a really resonant sound when played unplugged. Overall the build quality is really good at this price point. No issues with fret buzz or sharp fret ends. Plugged in this thing almost sounds like an electric/acoustic guitar, works really well for chords in the middle position giving it a bright and airy sound. It's not a true Tele but the bridge pickup on its own can get you somewhat close to a Tele sound. The tuners are just ok but will be looking to replace as they seem to slip a bit. Needed to file the nut slots down just a tad and overall the nut is probably something I'll also replace in the future. I have never owned a Jazzmaster so not quite sure I know what the pickups should sound like but I think these are a good pairing. The neck pup is a bit darker sounding and more suited for jazz type sounds. The middle position yields a nice country rock sound great for rhythm guitar playing and the bridge pickup is brighter and I have found it useful for solos. This is not a rock guitar although you could get by with it as that, more of a nice sounding rhythm guitar for someone looking for an airy acoustic type tone. Lead tones are suitable for blues or jazz. I did put some pedals in front of this guitar and you can fuzz it up with some success but overall there are better guitars if you're looking for a metal or hard rock type sound. Guitar plays great and the light weight is a big plus. The neck has a nice thin C shape and it's got a bit of a heavy gloss but its not tinted like a lot of squiers are and the grain int the maple on mine is really nice almost quilit like in some spots. I have this Thinline in Olympic white. It's a beautiful guitar, very lightweight with the hollow body. The tone is amazing out of the stock Jazzmaster-style pickups (which are actually p90s in disguise). I play through a Vox AC4 and can get anything from crunchy blues to ballsy stoner rock and everything in between. I brought it to a guitar tech for a setup and the only upgrade he recommended was swapping the output Jack for a Switchcraft with an Electrosocket mount. He was impressed by the weight and sound, and he said the tuners are great quality. He had to reduce some relief in the neck and dress the frets, but it was well worth the $100 setup as this guitar is a keeper. Love the slick maple neck and string-through body too.Brendan
Guitar plays ok (after a prolonged set-up), but there are some problems with the quality. For example, instrument cables don't fit snuggly into the input jack … they just fall right out. Not an insurmountable problem, I know, but I have never had that happen on ANY guitar I've owned. Also, the pickup selector doesn't stay in the bridge position (it also has an electrical buzz when you hold it there). Again, not something that can't be fixed, but I bought this new and I shouldn't have to deal with such problems right out of the gate. Where was the quality control? Buyer beware!Joe

Don't expect a custom shop handmade guitar; but for the money, this guitar kicks all kinds of tail! It plays very nicely with a very fast fretboard and thin neck. Stays in tune when abusing it with heavy pick attack. It does exactly what it looks like it was made for doing! Not to mention, it looks really cool, and plays as good as it looks! I have been playing for 25+ years, have owned many, many, many, mid-priced guitars over the years and this is definitely a big bang for the buck!
