What a brilliant guitar and superb value package! I have owned ‘real’ Gibsons over the years and bought this outfit as a birthday gift for my granddaughter who is learning to play. She has had a fender acoustic for a couple of years and now wants her own electric guitar. I chose this outfit as having previously owned one in the past I like Epiphone guitars. Before giving it to her I thought it best to check it over and set it up but there was nothing to do really, after tuning this guitar was perfectly playable right out the box! The feel, balance and weight is very like my Gibson and the sound is superb. The amp is excellent and packs enough punch to put a smile on your face too. She’s delighted with the built in tuner as well as the other essentials included in the outfit. What’s not to like? I can’t find a better value package!W O.
My original review still stands, but I made cosmetic-only upgrades for less than an average couple's meal at a casual restaurant that makes this look much, much more expensive. No tuner, pickup or pot swaps. Replaced black plastic parts with cream, added cream pickguard, replaced chrome tuner knobs with Klausen-style ivory-look knobs. Installed chrome pickup covers. Replaced speed knobs with gold top-hats.Easily done to make this look like a proper Les Paul. I'm happy with the looks for the little extra money spent.Steve
As the song says: "I'm a Sucker for a Cheap Guitar". I own over 30 – some cheap, some not so cheap. This one arrived perfectly set up: low action, no buzzing, no sharp fret edges, easy to play – amazing for a guitar in this price range. Although not great, the pickups even sounded acceptable. It's heavy, which to me means good, though not as heavy as my Gibson. It's OK-looking, but needed something to enhance it – a pickguard. I added one and it looks much better – more expensive. Instead of cutting off part of the guard to accommodate the knob as I've seen some others do, I drilled a hole big enough for the nut on the body underneath the knob to fit through the guard (see photos). Since the guard isn't much thicker than the nut, it allowed the guard to fit flush with the body and the knob to turn without any restriction of motion, and the pickguard is not butchered. It's a very clean look – like it came that way – not modified. So, I am pleased with this instrument, and would recommend it to anyone for any purpose: especially beginners to play or someone like me who just collects cheap guitars to hang on the wall of their studiio.Steve

I've always wanted a PRS and now I have one it was worth the wait. The range of tones, the sensitivity of the controls, the playability are all top notch. Not to mention it looks stunning. Out of the box it was all nicely set up, low action and very very playable. I've switched from the stock 9s to 10s and it sounds perfect. I've never been one for coil taps…all the others I have stay firmly in humbucker territory but there's something about these which really work for me – putting one in coil tap and then switching to the middle position is a tone I've not had on any other guitar and one I shall be using a lot. This is the first prs I’ve ever owned and I have to say if this is the quality prs puts out for their SE line, I can only imagine how good the core models are! I mostly play heavier stuff (djent, deathcore, death metal, etc.) and with the right eq settings these pickups do just fine. But they really shine with lower gain and crunch scenarios. I love playing jazz or doing some chicken pickin with the multiple sounds you can get out of the wiring setup. Superrrr versatile, very well built for an Indo guitar. My only complaint is the glossy neck, since I mostly play leads. But that can be solved fairly easily. It’s an easy guitar to play and it plays like butter. Stays in good tune even with whammy abuse. No sharp fret ends, fret buzz, high action, bad intonation etc. played great out of the box with a tuning. Now the only thing I would “upgrade” on this guitar are the tuners to locking tuners. If you are looking for a guitar that can be used on all occasions, if you are undecided and do not know which guitar to choose, if you do not know which way to go, whether a strat, super strat or a Les Paul. I patiently waited for something such as this. Debated on buying a used 90's model, or going with the newer version sparkle jets, but never bit the bullet since they just didn't call out and give that "feeling". In checking what this year's model/version would be, I was jaw-dropped and immediately knew this was the one! It was so worth the wait for this model; the best of both worlds (89/older version, but new). The stock pictures look orange, but it is indeed a perfect gold and exactly what I was hoping for. The pictures attached are good to help show it, but it's so much better in person. The quality and craftsmanship? Superb! The feel? Outstanding! The sound? AMAZING! My son bought this guitar for me for Father's Day and I absolutely love it. I had been in the market for a Gretsch and played a number of the Streamliners at my local GS, but this one really did it for me. The set-up from the store was superb, low action, no fret buzz, intonation spot on. The sound both plugged in and acoustically is awesome. I love to just sit on my couch and play it unplugged. I am still adjusting to keeping it in tune with the Bigsby, and I plan on smoothing out the fret ends a bit, but overall I couldn't be happier. I can't get over how fast the neck is! Guitar arrived in pristine condition beautiful colour that changes in certain light absolutely stunning. Binding and paint job is top notch on here can't find any blemishes anywhere. Frets are smooth level and rounded at the edges well done. Hardware, tuners and Bigsby all work as they should no tuning issues to complain about even after some Bigsby use. Set up with nice low action no buzz. Plays and sounds great also sounds sweet unplugged nearly as loud as a concert size acoustic. Only complaint is the tort pickguard isn't to my taste, a black or white one would have suited the beautiful candy apple red colour better but this is my opinion only. Overall: I have the 2420T in Gunmetal and she is beautiful. I replaced the knobs with chrome G-Arrow knobs and it has a great classic look. Fit and finish excellent. A little buffing compound under the neck/body joint but no biggie. Bigsby is smooth and the hardware is decent enough and holds tune. I wrapped on some D’Addario Chromes and the playability is excellent. The only let down for me is in the pickups. They sound hollow and muddy. I have to really do a great deal of knob twiddling on my guitar and amp to get it to approach what is termed “that great Gretsch sound”. I’m gonna try a lighter round wound set of strings to see if that helps, but the flat wounds have always sounded great on my Filter’tron equipped Gretsches. Overall a nice guitar with pickups that just aren’t as good as they should be.

I sat down tried all of the Ibanez, D'Angelico, Epi, and Gretsch's from $400-1k and walked out with this one. If buying online please read… The frets are not medium jumbo… more like vintage medium, they are thinner and shorter than a typical medium jumbo. Also the neck profile in the hand is a tad thicker than an Epi 335 and also a bit narrower… closer to my LP with a 50's neck… which for my hand was perfect and why I chose this over the Epi's/D'Angelico's. I will say all of the Streamliner Gretsch's in the store played well. You can tell the guitars were set up nicely prior to shipping and came out of the box that way. I was able to grab a new in box from the back of the store and the setup was great. No fretwork needed at all… which is something I RARELY see in the sub 1k price point. Tuners are die-cast nickle but they are smooth as can be and do not feel the need to change. Pickups sound good to me as well. The neck is very Jazzy and soft and the bridge has some bite but in the upper-mids, not ice-picky, and cuts well. Because they are standard humbucker size, replacement options are plenty. In order to make this guitar stay in tune with the Bigsby, you'll need to work that spring in a little and do some work and lubing the saddles and nut. Not a knock, just a warning if this is your first Bigsby bridged guitar. All in all a great playing guitar with a good size and comfortable neck with room to grow/upgrade if you feel the need. I was looking for a semi-hollow with Bigsby preferably to add to the collection, and this fit the bill perfectly. Plenty of that Gretsch vibe and at no point does it look like nor do I feel like I am playing a cheap guitar… Which is what ultimately drove me away from the Ibanez's in this price point.JJ in SC
Great guitar for the money. Bigsby included. The Torino Green is a great colour and at night or in the shade the guitar looks like black on black, with the pick guard standing out. All the trim is immaculate, though the machine heads are not the best and may need changing out for stability of tuning. The setup is pretty damn good straight out the box though I adjusted the string height to lower the action and checked the intonation which is all quite easy with a small screw driver. The playability is great though one needs to go easy on the strings when playing chords so as to not unintentionally bend them out of tune (Typical for a Bigsby setup). But, as I got this guitar more for playing leads and melodies this is not an issue and will facilitate ease of bending. Guitar came set up great for my playing feel. The neck shape feels really comfortable for my hand, with great playability up and down the neck. I typically practice at home on the couch with no amp, and the acoustic sound is great, and quiet enough to not bother my wife. I have been a Strat player for a long time, and wanted a guitar with a different sound for some of the different bands I play with. This guitar does a good job of taking me out of my "comfort" zone. I typically play pretty hard with a heavy pick for solos, and thus can break strings more than I would like. That being said, this is not a good guitar to have a string break on , as changing a string on a gig with this Bigsby is quite a challenge to do quickly . Gretch has so many awesome and different style guitars and I have wanted one for a while, I came across this beautiful guitar in Airline Silver! It is stunning! The finishes are impeccable it looks like a 5k guitar Im not even joking. The guitar came setup pretty good but Im very picky, I set the intonation and lowered the action to my taste, and this thing flies! so many great sounds and tone scapes, a very versatile guitar I would pit against any Les Paul, but Im am really happy with the craftsmanship and quality of this instrument. Picked up the case as well. I dont know how you couldn’t be blown away by this guitar. On the last note, Stock tuners seem good no tuning issues. Glad I bought this beast of a guitar, Its a little heavy, but it doesn’t bother me.Perryman
Overall: …at least in my case. I ordered numerous semi hollows from a well known maker, and had to send them all back for poor set up/fit/finish. Finally gave up and ordered this Electromatic Jet, mostly because the quality control got rave reviews and I was just tired of rolling the dice on the 335s. The rumors were true. For the price, this is just a great guitar. Yes, the Bigsby is a little gripey. I ordered some nut sauce and that should take care of it. I've read of some other fixes if it still needs a little love. In the meantime, I take it easy on the Bigs. Gigged with it right away. Looks totally pro and classy to all but total guitar snobs – of which I am one, for sure. So, at that level it's not a total love affair, but I will say that as of right now, I guess rather than saving for a 'real' 335, I'm saving for a 'real' Gretsch. For sheer umph, you can't beat the 335 – I know it – and the down market 335 sounded great – sent it back for having a totally unprofessional nut job. Not to mention fret sprout and truth be told, the finish is just not that good looking. Not to rag on the big E. I have a 339 that's a total gem. But this Gretch – just at the basic level of fit and finish, it smokes the 335s I've been sent. And then just the look of the thing. Heads turn, people gather to check it out. It's just good looking. Not all pretty girls are rich girls. I've heard of people preferring these Electromatics over the Player series. Sounds like a stretch to me, but on a cost/benefit comparison I could totally get that. Playability – it's totally playable, but such a different feel from the LP I usually play, that it was like learning to play all over again. I even got new blisters. It some ways it's actually easier to play than my LP. In some ways, mostly in not having a chunkier neck under my hand, not as enjoyable as the LP. I haven't picked up the Gibby in two weeks. The LP is a better guitar in pretty much every way, but it had better be, right? Then again, one thing it can't do is sound like a Gretsch, and even though I'd rather be playing the high end Jet (mostly for the thicker neck), I feel like I'm getting a good dose of 'Great Gretsch Sound' at a killer price. The Jet has a thinner neck and a slightly shorter scale, but it has a very different feel. It's very easy to play. And feels very well built. Neck feels great. Headstock looks so cool. The neck is not overly thin, objectively speaking. It's got a little meat on it.The Sound – woah! It's spanky! You will cut through! If you are a player who feels a little exposed if your sound is too out front, well, playing this baby is the sonic equivalent of wearing a Speedo with holes. You will be heard. Personally, I'm digging it. I'm used to fighting with PAF style pickups to get my sound out there. Problem solved. No EQ necessary. Don't get me wrong: it's a beautiful sound – smoky and airy and raspy with a ton of vibe and attitude. You can get a wide range of sounds out it, but it's a very different palette of colors for a Gibson guy to get used to. And it's a great palette. The notes come off with an immediacy that is just great. I find myself digging out pedals that I didn't really use with a Gibson. I'm putting away the Marshall type pedals. Pulled out a Fulldrive 3, which is kind of dark with PAFs.Anyhow, not to ramble. The Electromatic Jet is the real deal, the reviews are real – I think you can't count on receiving a good guitar when you order this. Oh yeah, I wanted to mention the volume control sucks… no taper… it's either off, then with a tiny little twist of the knob you are at full volume. Something that I imagine is easily remedied. Having gigged with this guitar now, for a few weeks, I will say this: why are there 3 volume knobs? That is just silly, I'm going to just put in a new Master Volume pot and totally bypass the two other volumes. I don't find myself using the tone knob a whole lot either. Partly because it doesn't really seem to do anything, partly because it just sounds so freakin' good at full knob. Anyhow, like I said, I'm a wicked guitar snob, on something of a budget, and I'm keeping this baby, and loving it.Many salaams and hat tips and thank yous to zZounds. Or is it zZounds? I'm an experienced player and musician having been playing for the last 15 years and being in multiple bands. This is my first Gretsch guitar as I am more of an Epiphone fan, however I am a huge Nick 13 and Tiger Army fan and as you know this is his signature model so I couldn't help myself. The guitar itself is beautiful and plays like a dream. I'm a Punk musician however I dabble in Psychobilly, Rockabilly, Ska, and Reggae and this guitar has no problem adapting to any style of music. The bridge pickup is nice and bright with the perfect amount of twang you would expect from a filtertron. The neck pickup and smooth, warm, and most importantly satisfying. However, a few days ago my toggle switch unfortunately went out and I can no longer switch between the bridge and the neck pickup. I bought this Gretsch in December and while it isn't 100% "new" anymore I am very gentle with my toggle switches so it is a bummer that it is already on the fritz. I'll be bringing it into my local GC to have the technician (Josh) to look at it and see if we can get her back into 100% working order. The other negative that I have is that the fret ends are a little sharp but that is an easy fix. Overall I am extremely happy with my Tiger Jet.Michael, C.

This guitar has a extremely beautiful sound I got it about 3 years ago and still is wonderful it has a pretty deep tone so I put so lighter strings but still has it but it can go for a more treble sound. Unlike some of my other guitars this doesn't make that shrill sound which is nice I highly recommend this for anyone the only bad thing would be that the whammy spring occasionally pops out and takes a while to put back but other than that perfect!T
My wife gave me this guitar as a gift and I couldn't be happier with it. My hands run on the smaller size, so this guitar fits me perfectly. Very comfortable to sit with, and it sounds fantastic. You can see where it's built to a price point, but unless you're geeking out on the build quality, you won't notice. With the Bigsby, it will be a pain to keep in tune, especially once the strings get a little older, but that's my only complaint about it.Jared
I love the size and feel of this Streamliner Junior. Lightweight, nice neck width, good electronics. But very disappointed with the final execution of paint and buffing. The plastic coating is sprayed on very thick and has air bubbles trapped. When these are sanded down and buffed, many are left in the finish as "divots" that do indeed show up. I looked at 5 total Streamliners and Juniors, and every single one had the same finish issues. I'm no paint finish expert but it seems that just a bit more time in sanding and buffing and this would all be taken care of. I love Gretsch and have 2 others about 8 and 6 years old, with zero finish issues. Maybe a bit more training of the new paint technicians, or give them the time they need to be actual craftspeople rather than giving them a quota that they have to meet..I did buy a Streamliner Junior, the one with the fewest noticable air bubbles/divots, but only because I really love the feel and weight. I wish GC would step up and sell these as factory seconds rather than saying "here it is, take it or leave it, for full price" This definitely lowers my opinion of Guitar Center's attention to quality. When I pointed out these problems in store, I was pretty much told, buy it if you want it or "there's the door". Not the GC I have been used to in the past. 1 star for GClet down buyer

This guitar is a breath of fresh air, something different from my collection of Strats, Les Pauls, Wilshires, etc. I love the looks and the sounds even better. The humbucker modes are strong and tasteful, the single coils are not quite a Strat but different enough to provide a great alternative sound. The mix of both provide lots of options. I have small hands and always went for thin necks especially the Gibson trim tapers but this thicker neck actually feels and plays great. I am amazed by the quality of modern guitars and the success of American builders who provide less expensive options through foreign manufacturing. We are living in the golden era of guitars – Thanks PRS!
I want to start by saying I did not get it from GC. I got it from another site where they had a charcoal option. This is a review on the guitar and not the supplier. They say a good guitar isn't necessary how it looks. I also read a lot about "a PRS sounds somewhere between a Les Paul and a Strat." For some reason people hold these sounds as the "gold standard" for musical guitar tone. Now I don't know about that either. What I can tell you is that what makes this a good guitar is how inspiring it is and how creative it's making me play. I don't know how to describe it- maybe a more experience person can weigh in (I've been playing on and off for a few years) but I seem so much more creative in my playing when I'm jamming with this as compared to my Gibson SG standard or Fender Player. At the end of the day, you want a guitar that not only sounds great (which this absolutely does) but also feels great and inspires you to play out of your norm. It does not have as much rock power when distorted when compared to my SG, so if you're looking for a rock heavy guitar, I don't know if this is for you. But it sounds incredible clean (which is how I mostly play). My Player sounds great clean too, but I love the wider and thicker neck profile it has compared to my strat (I got big gorilla hands so I like a chunkier neck). I've only had this for 2 weeks but it's become my grab guitar.Robbie A
I was looking for an entry level guitar that was priced right and built well. First of all, how can you go wrong with this beautiful style. It is also very light and wont leave you with back pain after a couple hours of riffing. Tuning keys are solid without any dead spots and dont slip. The guitar stays in tune very well with only slight adjustment needed due to temperature changes. Pick up selector is smooth and not notchy. Havent used the whammy bar and have been playing with studio headphones, so sound is subjective, but as someone that has been playing several instruments for 30 years, I like to think I have a good ear. This is my second fiddle purchase from AMS in less than a year. And let me say they don't disapoint. This PRS SE Custom 24 is one nice guitar. I have wanted a PRS for many years but didn't want to spend core money. After reading many reviews and watching the factory tour in Indonesia I was sold. The quality of this guitar is on point with a MIM guitar I bought last year. As to quality I am very impressed. The tone and clarity are ery nice. Not quite the same as the US made but very close. The only thing I did change per some of the other reviews were the tuners. I also highly recommend the PRS ones AMS sells. Literally drop in replacements. I do plan on upgrading the trem to some brass parts like the American made model. But all very simple upgrades bring this so called poor man's PRS that is already way above average to better. Oh yeah I also ordered the lampshade knobs. Very nice design as well.Oger
Having played just strats for many years (I'm a blues guy) I fancied a bit of a change in sound. Watching videos on andertons TV introduced me to PRS (Both the man and the brand). I went for this model as I loved the look. It arrived in one day and has totally reinvigorated my love of playing, the bright high gain sound has made me look at new music styles and sounds, getting me out of a rut of the playing the same artists. This thing doesn't have squeal when you want it to.. my runs sound cleaner as the wide thin neck actually is a better fit for my hand than the strats i own. I've started exploring the trem for the first time too. The core tap is great for my style, giving single coil for SRV type stuff then humbucker for Gary Moore and beyond.. just by pushing the tone control, very versatile instrument. It is very bright, so takes some taming but worth it. My only minor niggle is the tuning is not quite as stable as my strats, which have locking pegs. So I plan on investing in some PRS locking tuners. Overall I love it… sounds and looks amazing. If this is how good the SEs are then the cores must be out of this world. If you are looking for a guitar that can be used on all occasions, if you are undecided and do not know which guitar to choose, if you do not know which way to go, whether a strat, super strat or a Les Paul. Well, here you have the indicated guitar. I did not know what to choose, I tried many guitars, at the guitar center in Lynnwood WA, they were patient with me when I arrived and tried several guitars repeatedly, they are very kind. But in the end I was looking for a guitar that would be useful for everything, I wanted quality, comfort, good sound and versatility. Overall: I've always thought these looked cool with their single tiled bridge humbucker, so I picked one up. I am surprised this thing was only $180 before tax. It is made in Indonesia and it must have been made by one of the good workshops over there, because as simple as this guitar is, the fit and finish is amazing. The tuning machines are good quality, move very freely but also hold tune very well. The mahogany body is very solid, the black gloss finish on the body is free of blemishes and is very even and consistent. The finish on the back of the neck is very sleek feeling under my thumb. The fretwork is flawless. All the frets on mine are level and crowned properly. The ends are filed to prefection, absolutely zero sharp fret ends. The nut is a black plastic nut, so nothing fancy there, but it is filed to a perfect depth and the slots hug the strings nicely. I can't exactly speak to the quality of the tremolo bridge as I don't really make use of them, but it seems good and stays in tune (though I don't use it so I can't speak to how well it holds tune if you use it a lot). I'm not sure of the output of the alnico 5 humbucker but it sounds great and the tilted angle does indeeed seem to lend it a bit more bass than a normal bridge pickup, but without making it sound muddy. This guitar has me wondering why people buy something like a Rogue as a "beginner" guitar for a kid when you could get something like this for the same price or cheaper that is of much higher build quality and looks much cooler in my opinion. Best sub-$200 new guitar I've ever gotten hands down.
This has got to be the most value I've ever seen in a budget instrument. Out of the box it was set up good. Finish was perfect. I purchased the ruby red version. Stock pick up is aggressive and hot. Tremolo works as it should. Although I ain't a big user of them I can dive like EVH does on the first record with this thing and it comes back up in tune. Many people prefer something better but this works perfect for me. The only flaws I could find was one of the drill holes on the back plate was not lined up correct and a screw fell out. Not a big thing because I have take. It off for access to the springs and to change strings. The hardware is not the best. The screws on the claw stripped a little when I was taking it out for whammy use. Over all a very enjoyable guitar. Incredibly hot sounding and fast. The look is great too. I don't plan on upgrading anything just yet. Many buyers of this do hot rod them and that's also a very cool thing. Maybe in the future I'll consider some upgrades but stock is fine. I'd trust it on a stage no problem. Get them before they all go! There's a reason why very little of them are on the used market. For this price you cannot go wrong! Overall: Just got my Baretta Special guitar in black and all I can say is "Your kidding Me". I have played guitar for 50 years and have gone through so many brands, models of top name and bargain types of guitars. I have overpaid for some and gotten good deals on others. I mod guitars all the time to my taste. This guitar out of the box was intonated, perfect action, fit and finish top notch. Tuners are fine, neck is thin and fast. Best deal I have had in years, can't stop playing it! Hard to believe this is my 1st Kramer after so many years.

This is currently my favourite electric guitar. It has such a wide tonal range. Play soft finger style and you can get soft blues tones. Pul on the strings and it really twangs! Played with a pick you can easily push it from teang to breakup. Overall volume overall tone and two independent volumes gives great range with even small twists of the dials. Playability is great if you prefer a wider Gibson style neck. Great for sweet clean slide playing too.Vincent
The bad – very thin packing material in the shipping box & it arrived with the box open. There was a nasty quarter size ding and cracked finish on the back. MF took care of that issue. The Good – came out of the box perfectly set up for my playing style – Classic style rock and Blues. I mainly play thru a Fender twin reverb & The P-90s sound amazing to my ears. The strings feel like 12s but not sure. I use a Ibanez overdrive and then a touch of chorus when playing clean. Stays in tune well and the bigsby works as it should. I'm semi-pro This is the first time in my adult life I've bought a guitar that didn't come with a case but I had a spare archtop case that works fine. All of my guitars are made in the U.S, but this one plays and looks just as nice ( except the ding) I can't imagine anyone kicking this guitar out of their herd. I went to guitar center looking for a professional ii telecaster in Miami blue, but saw this gem out of the corner of my eye in my way out. I picked it up and it was just the magic I was looking for. Absolutely stunning guitar! The p-90s are Hot and clear, really good low end response and the bridge is nice a twangy how I like it. So glad I bought it and the neck feels super great. The nick is a little chunky on the sides but nothing you can't get used too. Only complaint is the tuning stability, it isn't bad just isn't ideal. Nothing a little lube on the nut can't fix. I cannot say enough about this guitar. Solid build, unique and classy styling (Cats eye f holes) and great color (Georgia Green). I have a big hollow body Gretsch Jazz Box and a smaller Ibanez Artcore. Both great guitars but this one makes them feel awkward and limited. The 3 pickups offers so much tone choice. Middle pickup is a fantastic addition, it is a shame Gretsch doesn't offer it on more guitars. The controls are so simple despite seeming complex and are so intuitive to navigate Selector 1 is the standard neck, mixed, bridge Selector 2 is middle pickup exclusive, mixed, off Each pickup has a volume knob for blending , shared tone and a Master volume. Thin neck compared to my other Gretsch's, butter smooth Bigsby and perfect setup and intonation right out of the box. I hesitated on this guitar, almost bought a used model but saw it fall below even the used price at the holiday. After pulling the trigger I regret waiting so long. This guitar is the one that gets me selling gear because it is just that fun and versatile.Kenn

I bought this guitar specifically for a "project" as the "Stupid Deal of the Day" price I got it for was a no-brainer. This is my 6th Gretsch… The guitar's fit and finish aren't bad actually, I was surprised by the quality, binding, fretboard, etc., were all better than I expected. Certainly better than some of the Epi Casinos / Dots that I've played / owned, and with a bit more character to boot. Compared to my '64 6186 Clipper, this guitar's measurements are identical. Width, height, neck angle, etc. Only difference is that the '64 is a single cut-away and the 2627T is a double-cutaway. No doubt many people will be happy with this guitar right out of the box. BUT… if you want a GRETSCH, there's more than a few things wrong with this guitar, starting with the pickups. Made by G&B, they're fairly lifeless (and certainly not the twang you'd get from a proper pair of Filter'Trons). I'll be replacing mine shortly. In fact, they pale when compared to my Hi'Lo-Tron models too. Extra points for the cats-eye sound holes, but the rest of the cosmetics are pretty bad. But, replace the ugly black knobs with chrome "G's" and swap the pickups and you should have a winner here. The Bigsby B70 is what it is, some don't mind 'em, some hate 'em. The pickup switching might be confusing to some (and the controls might be hard to figure out) but the easiest way to remember is that the first switch works just like a 2-pickup Gibson switch would (N, B, B&N) and the second switch turns the middle pickup off, on, or on by itself. There's five knobs; the master volume is where it should be (at least on a Gretsch!) and there's three individual volumes plus one master tone as well. People who complain about having only one tone knob should consider themselves lucky… a proper Gretsch would have only a mud switch! My other Gretsch's are a '63 Tennessean (6119), '64 Clipper (6186), '03 Nashville (6120), Broadkaster Bass (5123B), a Rancher Jumbo, and this one (2627T).LesB3

Nice, quick and reliable as always. Ordered the guitar one night, had it despatched the next day and arrived the day after looking just as perfect as you’d expect. The only criticism (if any) I’d give is that it would be nice if PMT would set up their guitars. It’s the one stage where many online shops fall short and their prices are no cheaper online vs in-store where as in store you may be able to negotiate the guitar be setup. PMT are not a shop who just happens to sell guitars, at one time your name stood for professional music technology and now it stands for play music today. Looks gorgeous, sounds great and is really fun to play. Incredibly high quality finish for a budget guitar. Nut is OK and frets are well finished, tuners are functional but have no issues and tuning stability is generally good for a Bigsby fitted guitar. Even only needed minimal set up out of the box. Holds its own against the cheaper US Gibson and Fenders for build quality and with a few setup tweaks and a couple of minor upgrades to the B50 for sustain it will be a great guitar. This guitar is GREAT……. Is as NEW, plays great, no marks, scuffs, etc. IIt needs a new set of strings, which I will install. The seller packed, as promised, and the guitar is STELLAR. The seller, and guitar are MAGNIFICENT. The price was great, and I will treasure it for many years to come. It is one of 14 in my guitar humidified and heated case. Delivery was on time also. I rated it 1, because I consider it a #1 perfect guitar, thinking #1 was the BEST, however, the #5 is the BEST, so, My mistake. If 5 is the best, then this one is a 6.bake1-5
Many tones are available with this guitar. The humbuckers are not the usual paf stuff they have plenty of mids but also better cleaner highs. When split they approximate fender singles decently. The extra capacitor (tone knob out) when rolled off darkens shrill highs nicely, works well with split or unsplit. Gives nice fat body jazz tone to neck pu. Excellent build, very pretty, easily playable. This is a winner!jaztooth

Loved this guitar at first and every time I played it at Guitar Center before I bought it. I bought the airline silver and I will say that it is an absolutely beautiful guitar. However, I would definitely recommend having a set up done. Pretty shortly after I bought it, certain strings were buzzing due to needing a set up. I bought it in July and in November I ran into another bigger problem. The neck pickup stopped working so I took in and they said that the pickup switch was bad. Once I got it fixed it worked fine again, however, now about six months since I had it fixed, the neck pickup occasionally goes out when I switch between pickups. It's very annoying and I am very disappointed about not having an inconsistent guitar that I can't count on while gigging.Dreamstone
This Guitar is SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Sweet! As a Luthier, and builder, I give this little lady a great big "No Worries Mate"!!! First thing needed though is a new Bone Nut, with REAL string spacing, order yourself a Schaller Roller Bridge, (remove the original Bigsby B50 roller bar till the Schaller arrives), add a BiggsFix Tensioner, and wail-on!!! Might add a "Squishy" Bigsby spring later, (?). After these upgrades, this instrument leaves very little,(if anything) to be desired. Another "ulterior motive for this purchase is to use the body to pull a female mold, then cast a male mold from that, and then————Geo, Harrison Duo Jet clone, here I come, with Dyna-Sonics, a Rocking Bar Bridge, "Proper" Switch, and Master Vol. locations, a "correct" Pick guard, Bigsby B3C, and the required neck set angle, and height off the body. Like I said, I'm a Luthier so, all it'll cost me is parts, since my labor is free, (to me, Har!). Buy one of these, and give it a good, and loving 'Home'!! Gb bgBeatle Geo.

This was my second run at a D'Angelico. My first try was an all mahogany acoustic offered through M/F as an exclusive. The neck on that one required the full run of the truss rod, and even then didn't come close to straight. I thought about sending that one to the luthier, but traded it at GC. So, this was my second try (I really want to like this brand). It is a pretty guitar (all white), but it just doesn't like to be looked at up close, like a car that looks great from fifty feet away, and then you find out it's all bondo… Again, neck straightness problems. But even more troubling, was a flaw in the neck on the treble side between the 6th and 7th fret. Looked like an impact to the neck, binding, and fret board during the manufacturing or packaging process, maybe after paint. The finish was cracked, and had a noticeable ridge when playing. A strong light source parallel to the neck revealed the damage that was clearly felt. There were paint runs on the neck, as well. The pickups were mounted in reversed position, neck mounted at bridge, bridge mounted at neck so it was impossible to level the neck pick up, and tone was weak and muddy, so the wiring was suspect as well. There were small wounds in the fret board that were visible. The binding didn't line up well at joints. Guitar was well packaged (so was the acoustic) and came in a hard case, so can't blame UPS. I didn't make it to checking out the setup and fret condition, as every defect showed itself in the first ten seconds. I hope other people have been luckier with this brand than I have, but sometimes it just works out like this. All in all, I regret going through the hassle of ordering this guitar, it was a stupid deal of the day/clearance special at more than 50% off list, even at that price, and then returning it. I'm afraid it will show up as an open box…. ps. gave it a star for the packaging and case, and gave it another star 'cause it sure would look pretty hanging on a wall somewherebarn
D'Angelico, in the current iteration anyway, is a relative newcomer to the market, and these guitars are made in Korea. Ten years ago I wouldn't have touched a foreign guitar with a ten foot pole…I was one of those guys that believed in American F's and G's…but I saw this thing on the STOTD for like 60% off and had to pull the trigger, as I'd been wanting a 335 style for some time now, and I figure i'ts better to have something than nothing, at my price point. Well…my oh my. You'd never know its a MIK…they must have some outstanding quality control in the factory. (If you read up on D'Angelico's current production system it sounds like they do, probably in the spirit of living up to the legacy of the D'Angelico name). I've had it for about a month now, and the quality is only improving. Listen to this: the guitar sat on my front porch for a week in winter–delivery got delayed by a day and I left town before it got there–(don't worry, I live in the boonies and it was safe)–and when I got home, I didn't have to touch the setup, it was absolutely pristine out of the box–and I still haven't had to touch it! Unreal! I'm actually fairly amazed by this, this is a pretty telling bit of information regarding construction quality. Ok, so now to the real stuff. This thing plays like a dream, all the way up to the 22nd fret. Bends are tangibly better/easier than my Te** and St***. Strummed hard, it responds with solidity to laying into it with the right hand. And the tone is perfect. And what a range of tones! From spanky country clean to gritty overdrive, and then from warm jazz box to fuzz machine. The embedded harmonics and overtones of chords are so rich! Complex intervals like major 9ths and 13ths played with the drive cranked up retain their character and don't get muddy. It is really a special guitar. I honestly am a little surprised, pleasantly so. If they keep this up, I think D'Angelico will stay in the picture for a while.
I was looking for a hollow or semi hollow guitar to provide the sounds and textures my trusty Tele can't quite deliver. I found the perfect fit with the Excel SS. It's design is exquisite and the build and finish are first rate. The attention to detail is as good as I have seen on any guitar regardless of price. It's got wonderful playability and feel of the neck and fretboard. Independent coil tapping for the two super sounding, very quiet, pickups delivers the sounds I was looking for and then some. My go to Sweetwater guy,Alan Carter, helped walk me through my final selections the guitar and had it in my hands within two days. Thanks Alan!

I've always considered Gretsch a quality brand, so I was happy to get one at the price I paid, and hoping that it would still be up to standard I was accustomed to. The quality and craftsmanship were what I expected, and it plays and sounds great. The only thing I don't like (and why I gave it 4 stars) is that the angle of the Bigsby tremolo arm is way too high to actually use. I have 2 other similar Gretsch's: an Electromagnetic 5420T and a vintage 6120DC. Both of these guitars have Bigsby tremolos, and on both the arm is readily accessible and very responsive. On this new one, however, the angle is way off and a little stiff: basically unusable as is. I am trying to find a shorter spring, which I hope will resolve the problem. But I am disappointed that someone at Gretsch did not realize that the way this Bigsby ships is not what I would expect from Gretsch.John
The guitar looks great and is set up nicely. My only complaint is that the Tremelo bar didn't appear to be installed correctly and fell off the first day. The only way I could figure out how to get it back on was to cut off the strings to get to the spring and the nut/washer assembly. It looked to me like the nut was put on backwards and unscrewed itself every time I'd swing the Tremelo bar into a position to use it. Restringing is a bit of a bear and I'll have to figure out an easier way to do it than my first try.Chuck
Always wanted a Gretsch guitar. Saw several models on sale at Guitar Center and liked look of the Sapphire Blue and wood grain back. Also liked combination of Bigsby with pickups and gold hardware. Lowered strings and checked intonation which was very close and did a small truss rod adjustment to get rid of a bit of buzzing on the A string. After this set up guitar plays great and sounds quite good. To me weakest part of guitar are the knobs which are cheap feeling. After market Gretsch gold metal knobs might be a future upgrade. I do feel for a $500 plus guitar should have better control knobs. Overall guitar workman ship is quite good with only a couple very small finish blemishes which buffed out. I would recommend this guitar as a good intermediate guitar you could gig with.Ron
