Dearmond M65C Electric Guitar For Sale (Jan 2023 Update)

I love this little guitar. I bought mine from the GC store. I have Taylor GS mini for my RV, but it's still too big and too loud in a small rv with others. I saw the Traveller guitars and thought I'd go to a GC and try it out. I'm too new at this so got the GC sales person to play so I could hear the difference using a big amp. The ones with the pickups were hot and a little bitey for me as I only really play acoustic. The Piezo pickup acoustic sounded mellow and it was on the guitarathon sale for 100 dollars off. That tipped it for me. It's small, extremely light and when unplugged, extremely quite quiet. It's so small, I'm finding that I pick up this one more than the regular guitars. Bear in mind, it's not acoustic or electric, so it's not going to sound like anything else. I bought a headphone amp and also use a regular amp when I can be loud. When practicing unplugged at night, it's loud enough for me, but nobody else can hear it. Also, I've found that if I press it tightly to my side, the lower notes reverberate in my chest. With the acoustic pickup there is no tone or volume controls, so everything has to be done through the amp. I'm getting used to that. With no body and only the wire bottom, it takes a little time before it begins to feel normal. The only negative is if I don't hit the notes perfect, I can get some fret buzz. All in all, it's so different from any other guitar, I would suggest trying it in person first. You will either love it or hate it. And remember it's a small travel guitar you can also use regularly. Play it both amplified and unplugged and see if you think it will work for you.Mike

This guitar is lightweight very well balanced, it seems to almost float when wearing it with a strap, As I heard in another rating, it feels like every single note on every single fret is available and reachable at any moment. It takes me back to the early 90's when I played a early 70's Gibson Explorer. What an easy guitar to play! It just seemed to fall off the frets into your hands, and this ESP SnakeByte is no different. I've heard James Hetfield talk about his love for his Gibson Explorers, so it's not a surprise that his signature series SnakeByte has that feel and tone! I really like the locking tuners, what a great invention! It makes the horrible business of replacing strings easy and painless! The locking bridge is also a delight, keeps intonation intact when changing strings. I like the tone of the JH HET SET pups, they scream when needed, and purr when needed. This guitar matches up particularly well with a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier, or most any amp from Mesa Boogie or Marshall.mkcr33l

I was so excited to get this guitar and I hooked it up out of the box a played it for about 5 minutes. Unplugged it put it back in the case. The next day I hooked it up again and got a terrible flanger like sound out of the guitar so I switched guitars and my other one was fine. Before I sent it back I wanted to check the 9v battery in the back compartment for the pickups and discovered only 1.2 v of power coming out of the battery. I swapped the battery and now it's good. I just thought it was kind of annoying that esp would sell guitars with off brand dead batteries. I know it's not musiciansfriends fault but still.Chris

You can't expect any guitar at this price point to sound great. You can't expect any guitar with a bolt on neck to sound great. You can't expect any guitar with a basswood body to sound great. But this guitar is definitely worth the tiny bit I paid for it. It stays in tune, the frets don't have any sharp edges, the action is not high. It may sound better if I changed the pickups, but most guitarists like to try out different pickups, so that's not a big deal. The important thing is that this is comfortable to practice on at home, which is a big expectation for a guitar at this price pointtheLonnie

Had to file sharp fret ends and raise bridge one turn. Then it played as well as many of my other guitars. The pickup switch doesn't always make good contact and has to be jiggled – which seems to be common in this kind of toggle. The finish appears to be opaque brown stain over wood, with a flat polyurethane(?) finish. The grain is barely visible but it's there. If you end up filing the fret ends like I did, protect the rosewood fret board with tape or something and use a very fine file. Makes a good beach and party guitar – If it's damaged at this price, who cares?Uncle Willie

First off, i have to say if i say anything negative, it should be taken with a grain of salt because in its price range, this is a great guitar. Right out of the box, i found the color not matching the image, however personally i found its true color pleasing. The guitar has a comfortable feel, not overly heavy, but not cheap feeling either. The neck feels comfortable, the tuners generally stay well in tune. i like the adjustable bridge, its a nice feature. The tone control is decently dynamic. the selector is a bit sticky sometimes, and that can become annoying. Also i find that the pickups are a bit close in range so as not to give the greatest differentiation, but still, its not an expensive guitar. So all in all, i recommend this model for the price, it has a good sound and i find it pleasing. it also has a lot of potential. I made just go crazy and drop some P-90's in there, who knows. lol 🙂 great for starter, or just a base for a custom.JDubya

I bought this guitar for my 6 year old daughter for her first guitar. I got the pink version, and it is VERY pink – brighter than it looks in the pictures. It's quite striking, and I kind of want to play it on stage just for aesthetic effect. It's a solid starter guitar. Nothing fancy sound-wise. Playability is good with a comfortable neck that plays smoothly. The sound is what you should expect in a low-cost guitar. Out of the box there was quite a bit of fret buzz, and even with some set-up, there is flat, buzzy sound to the guitar when not plugged in that makes it sound "cheapis." Plugged in, again, it sounds like what you should expect out of a starter electric. There is very little sustain – I'd say around 4 seconds of sustain, which might be a big deal if you want to play lead on this using it as performance guitar. I'm not using it for that, nor will my daughter. For a starter guitar, it's good. She's already learned a few chords. Her hands and arms are still far too small too really put this guitar to use, but I can see her growing nicely into the smaller scale neck, which should work well for her small frame. In other words, the fact that my daughter is too small is more a reflection of my daughter, rather than of the guitar. The guitar is a good size for a young learner. She squeeled when she opened it! She really loves the guitar and has played it every day since Christmas. If you're in the market for a starter guitar either for a child or adult, you won't go wrong with this. If you're an experienced or professional musician who's looking to perform on stage, I'd say this guitar doesn't really fit the bill, but then again, no guitar in this price range is really going to do that. For comparison, I played an Epiphone Les Paul for years that I liked better both feel and sound-wise, but an Epiphone is a little more expensive and certainly not as visually striking. So, in sum, for what it's worth, for me the guitar is "good enough," and my daughter LOVES itJason

Guitar is bright and the color is amazing! People love it, plays great on a clean/muff tone, but too much distortion is a bit much for either the strings, or the pickups themselves. I picked this up on Veterans day for the great price!!! Its nuclear green is great, and it has a nice feel to the fret board. I'm using it with Rocksmith and for jamming!!! I like it, it tuned up quickly and held it very well even after a couple of days of temperature swings in the house.Dude

I was gifted this beauty for my birthday. I had a 2PU version before, but through my own innatention, cracked the breadstick at the neck. I repaired it, but then sold it. I giggled and recorded extensively with that guitar. I was missing it, and thanks to my kid brother and his wonderful girlfriend, the Caddy has joined my guitar tribe. I love this guitar. This guitar completely rocks. Plays great sounds great and looks great. It came out of the box almost set up perfectly. The only thing is the action could have been Lowered just a tad. But this guitar is two thumbs up. This is my main guitar for now on.Lee

Not one single regret about adding this Dean Cadi to my arsenal!! No sharp frets, no dead frets, the neck plays super fast and this is a very comfortable guitar to hold! You simply do not want to put it down!! Get your wings!Christopher

The case is excellent (5 latches, all working as they should). The guitar fit in the case is excellent too. Great wow factor when you open the case. This is one beautiful guitar. Fit and finish are impressive. Up there with the best of the Koreans, and better than some US. Very nice mahogany wood grain unnecessarily the same front and rear. In my hands, it has a really nice, familiar, and comfortable feel. Tuned up nicely, and though smallish, the Grover tuners are smooth and solid. A couple strums put a big smile on my face, as it played smooth, up and down the neck, and unplugged it really sings out acoustically and with impressive sustain. At 6-5/8 lbs, it feels very solid, but obviously not heavy. The strings it comes with don't send me running out to change them right away, either. My excitement was tempered a bit after I plugged it in, though. The only problem of any real significance was the toggle switch. (These toggles are about the only real problem I've had with any of my new guitars. Don't know why that seems to be my "problem of choice". But compared to everything else, I'll accept that, especially if it is the only problem) "Either" worked okay, but "both" was one only (middle position not working correctly). Same as my other toggle problems ironically. But additionally, the toggle was so loose in the switch housing, I thought it was a joystick at first. So that gets replaced. (Not as easy on a hollow body, though.) The pups are fine and I like them. Nice range and flavor. I'd have to play them more to define them better. The pots are bit of a concern though. Don't like the apparent taper, or should I say lack of. I'll have to give them some more time to evaluate too. After playing it a little, I looked closely at the setup and was surprised it was visually off a lot more than it felt. So it should be even better playing when dialed in. The neck needs just a little truss rod adjustment along with the bridge. I'll have my guy replace the switch and do the setup. The initial verdict? Very nice, and a keeper. In fact I was thinking that even if all the electronics were ripped out and replaced, it would still be worth it. The guitar itself is that good.wmachine

I've played for about 30 years – rock, R&B, country, jazz, blues – in bands in small venues. This is a steal for the money. Solid construction, light weight, great mini hum buckers with a clear low end. With a little gain, this guitar has a great classic rock humbucker sound, consistent across strings, cuts through the mix, really perfect in a group setting. The hollow construction allows you to get a good semi-amplified jazz sound. I play old swing/Gypsy, and it's great for that as well as a full-blown Wes Montgomery sound, but with a little more high end, which I like. Also has works great for country. A very versatile guitar, and a great buy for the money.Tim

I have been a tele guy for a long time but played a vintage Starfire years ago and have wanted one ever since. I really love the pickups in this guitar. To me they are the perfect middle ground between a single coil and a full on Gibson type humbucker. The clarity is unmatched and it retains a thickness that Im really enjoying. I can echo what was said here. I would consider this an under the radar guitar that represents a tremendous value. I guess it isnt popular because it doesnt say 'Fender' or 'Stratocaster' on the headstock..The irony is that it was designed by Leo Fender himself and represents upgrades and improvements over the Strat he designed, Anyway, this thing is a tone machine. More tones than a Strat…and better tones w. more resonance and sustain than the Strats i;ve played. (Squire Standard, Squire ProTone, Strat Clapton. Can control tone on bridge pickup and you just dont get those harsh icepicky tones unless you really want to dial them in. A couple small negatives. The frets on the one I got were not finished/polished. You could actually hear them rub when you bend..and the guitar comes with 10's not 9's. Makes it really hard to bend and i would think would wear out the strings quickly. So unless I got an outlier, be prepared to do < or have done> some fret work. Also the push pull is hard to engage. You gotta put a fingernail underneath the knob and pull up hard to engage…it does seem to become a little looser and easier to engage with some use. Other than that, levels above the Strats I have played in most all ways. Musicians Friend doesnt do setups I dont think…they just ship them out without taking them out of the box they arrived in. (double boxed) Oh, i bought the sonic blue one. To me, it looks like a very pale green..or maybe i have some color blindness. It's a cool retro colour though i thinkNoBadMojo

If you're looking for the Jazzmaster vibe with some modern touches, then this is worth looking at. This has the usual G&L quality fit and finish you would expect from their USA line. Nice neck profile, rolled fretboard edges make it feel worn in already, but comes with modern 55×110 frets which I like. Great sounding pickups too, have that JM chime and jangle with a little more full frequency response from the MFD pickups. They can be really bright if needed, but roll in the tone knob and you get some sweet smooth neck tones. I think the icing on the cake with this thing is the DF trem. It is a very smooth and stable trem that I much prefer to the fender 6 screw on the player series JM or even the traditional JM trem units. If you have never played the G&L DF trem you should really check one out. Overall just a great guitar that gets you into Jazzmaster territory.RickC

Hate to write a negative review and glad others received better instruments than i did. I purchased via SDOTD and the guitar received today 5/13/2021 was bad and returned. Had really great expectations based on reviews. This is aimed at G&L's qc dept. The guitar arrived with 1 inch scratch in the back on the lower horn, dimples in the finish, scratches on the belly cut, areas that were dull from not buffing to a high polish, dents on back of the neck that could be felt and frets that felt like playing strings over sandpaper. Returned back same day. No damage to shipping boxes and purchased new just extremely poor qc. I wasnt expecting this to play like a +1k guitar but this feels like a Rogue guitar. Needs alot of work and setup. No comparison to Squier's in the same price range.B

I was skeptical, having never heard of the brand, but am very happy with what I paid. It has a very solid feel to it, bridge and everything was already set up, and after a quick tune was ready to go. I am no expert by far, but I am happy with my purchase. Clean, quiet, has some weight to it, plays well, stays in tune, decent intonation, sounds somewhat like a tele, and I have no choice but to say this guitar is fabulous for the price.crafter4life

There are way……way better guitars out there in this price range. Mine was damaged on arrival due to terrible packing. Neck needed shims, tuner are terrible. Frets are very rough.Adam

The neck had a gap between on the body nd the tone knobs are frustrating. The pickups are muddy and low quality. The guitar is more china and not quality. Dean is low quality nowadays.sundrool

I bought this guitar to compliment my other two more expensive Dean's. I have a friend who is an EMG endorser and is sending me a free set of EMG 81/60 pickups, so I wanted something inexpensive to put them in. Having owned inexpensive Dean's in the past and having a good experience at this price point; meaning no overhanging frets, good to great factory pickups, nice action, great playability and a solid build; I decided on this Cadillac X only in Black because I had always wanted a Cadillac. Since I wanted Black I bought it directly from Dean but I'm sure my customer service experience would've been the same superb I always get from Musicians Friend. The guitar came in out of the box set up almost perfect and almost in tune, except for the low E string. All the aforementioned qualities of lower priced Dean guitars certainly apply and then some. Nice jumbo frets, no overhanging frets, no fret buzz, good action, nice comfortable C shaped neck and I really loved the pickups. I know Dean models their DMT Design pickups after their DMT USA Aftermarket resell pickups, I can't tell for sure which these are, but I am guessing their Time Capsule models which I bought one for the bridge of my Dean Custom 350 Floyd. These pickups pack a punch, tons of gain while retaining a huge surprising amount of articulation for stock pickups. Overall I could not be more pleased. I was also pleasantly surprised with the ease of access of the upper frets. Easier than my $1100 DCR #8 ML SWITCHBLADE. Overall great guitar, great looking, great playing, great sounding. Highly recommend!!Michael

I am rating it based on the price point expectations I had before ordering. It is a really great guitar. You have to expect that it will come with some defects and issues. Small paint/binding issues, some glue and wood chips loose inside the guitar that I took out. The guitar wasn?t set up well on arrival. I did a string change and truss rod adjustment to get rid of some fretting out on the first fret. The components are cheap, input Jack was broken shortly after my first show with it. The guitar itself is solid! Well built, stays in tune. Neck is very thick. I would purchase another even with issues. I wasn?t expecting a perfect guitar just something that I can play hard and maybe replace some components down the road.Cory

Very nice looking guitar. Set-up pretty well out of the box with fret ends nice and smooth. Needed slight intonation. Unfortunately the shipper basically smashed the box and the three-way toggle switch was damaged and not functional. Rather than send the guitar back I pulled out the switch and was able to repair it. Finish around the switch hole (under the retaining ring) was slightly damaged/cracked and had to repair that as well. The guitar plays and sounds quite nice and other than a small kink in the binding where it joins the neck (smooth and under the finish) it is a pretty guitar. Has a minor rattle somewhere that I can't locate (not string buzz), but doesn't come through when amplified. All in all, I am happy with it and its well worth the price.Michael

This is a nice guitar. It?s well made, has a beautiful charcoal burst gloss finish, and has the wonderful mellow sound of a semi-hollowbody guitar. The blacked out hardware is a nice touch. I learned about this guitar from the guitar gear bloggers on YouTube. They ALL gave it great reviews. Some of the older reviews mentioned that the fret ends needed more polishing, and there was some nitpicking about the size and font of the Indio logo. More recent reviews indicate that these issues have been addressed. MY Indio guitar has polished fret ends and it APPEARS to me that the logo is a bit smaller. The fit and finish are EXCELLENT, so perhaps Monoprice has listened to customer complaints and has tightened up their QC. The BIG news here is the PRICE. EVERYONE, myself included, is STUNNED by how INEXPENSIVE this guitar is. The $250 list price is a STEAL! The YouTube bloggers claim that this guitar will go head-to-head with other 335 style guitars costing 3 times as much! I agree.Kevin

I've been playing guitar for 29 years and I'm super picky. This is one of the best guitars I've ever played in my life. Super butter neck, the stock pickups do not need to be upgraded, the guitar just resonates amazingly! I have to write a review since no one else has. Hopefully people catch on and start buying this guitar.Joe

I played this guitar the one day at a guitar center just because how often do you see a Dean, not often. I wanted to see how it was. I didn't expect anything special but right away I thought it had a very clear even tone. I thought maybe it was the amp doing that so I played about 5 other guitars with the same amp settings to see it that was it, nope. I didn't plan on buying a guitar so left the store. After randomly stopping by the guitar center 4 more times over the time span of about 2 months and playing that guitar each time I became more obsessed with it. Again playing other guitars in the store to compare it to. I play metal, death metal, and black metal. I like strats with humbuckers, Jackson, Ibanez, any strat shaped guitar that can do metal tones. I was surprised how clear this Dean was, a tune o matic bridge tends to make a guitar sound warmer in my experience. This guitar sounded more punchy, bright, and clear compared to every guitar I tried next to it. Besides the tone it's one of the easiest if not easiest playing guitar I've ever put my hands on. Finally I bought it few days ago. Taking it home all I did was lower the action ever so slightly and I've been playing it hours everyday since. Just hitting open chords is so satisfying, it's like the volume of each string in the chord rings out evenly. The guitar feels "alive" I don't know if it's just this particular Dean being like this or if all the other MDX X quilt top of this same model are like this too. The guitar has a mahogany body and rosewood fretboard but it sounds more like an alder body with a ebony fretboard. Maybe it's the binding and maple top adding to the brightness. Normally on a guitar I'll change the pickups but this guitar absolutely does not need different pickups. On a fender strat I have be careful to not hit the volume and turn it down while I'm playing. The volume knob on the Dean is in the perfect location. It's out of the way yet in a good location for volume swells. I hope Dean keeps this model around a good long time. Besides it playing and sounding amazing I do like blue guitars with a quilt maple top. I bought the guitar based on tone and playability alone but the appearance is a bonus. The headstock shape, Dean logo, and black hardware are all very cool!Derek

Father Christmas got this guitar for my 11yr old son this year and he hasn't put it down! He started teaching himself acoustic guitar a few months ago and has been absolutely fixated. He asked Father Christmas for an electric guitar and this is what turned up Christmas morning. He absolutely loves it. The pickup selection was broken from the start. The price is good for a beginner’s first guitar, however if the pick ups are broken it’s going to create big problems for a new guitarist when finding their way around their guitar for the first time.Henry

The strings that came on it are stuck in the bridge, so I plan on replacing the bridge. Incredible value, but in my case I got what I paid for.Tyler
