I have used nickel rockers since the 80's. The warm fat tone sold me the first time I played them. Great clean bass response and even non harsh mids and top end. They pair well with vintage or vintage style guitars, big frets, and amps like Tweed Deluxe, Super Reverb!, Tweed Bassman, Plexi Marshall, Blankenship Fat Boy Supreme. GHS must have stopped making them for a while, who knows why. Thanks to EJ, they are back and in his custom speck gauges. Basically the 10's are 10's on top, 11's on bottom. I haven't tried the 11's. I will admit that using strings this heavy with a Floyd Rose isn't exactly kosher, but it worked well aside from the obvious stiffness. The sound was nice and bright, but also full and booming (much nicer than my regular strings). My problem with these strings, however, is that they feel kind of sticky to the touch. This was not only noticeable, but it actually affected sliding. Too much friction for me to be comfortable with them. Might have worked with Fast Fret or the likes, but I'm not a fan of such products. I'm sorry to say, I replaced the the strings the next day with the D'Addarios that I normally use..spock84

(Guitar there were placed on is a Tom Murphy Painted and Aged Gibson Custom Shop 1959 Les Paul Standard w/ Brazilian Fretboard) Back in the day, Ernie Ball strings weren't packaged well; they weren't even sealed. If you haven't tried them since their packaging was reinvented, they're definitely worth a look now. Tried D'Addario pure nickel strings, found the wound three to be too low output. I swear the core wire looked like it belonged in acoustic strings. Maybe I got a factory defect, who knows. Gibson strings sound great initially but the 'G' starts to sound dead after a week and the wound strings sound dead and filthy in three weeks. These on the other hand sound marvelous. They sound great out of the package, stay balanced, and sound good for longer than I thought possible.MidnightRiderInTX
I have recently come back to playing the guitar, Sax is my primary instrument but I have had my Gibson RD Standard since 1978. I have since increased my heard of guitars to 10 electric guitars and 3 bass guitars. I have come to favor the Ernie Ball lights and super lights on almost all my guitars. I play the 9's on all of my Stratocaster copies and the super lights on the 3/4 size guitars. I have been using the Power Slinkys (11s) for a few years now. I had switched from another brand because the Slinkys made my Strat sound more Straty. After watching a few videos on YouTube about string gauge, I thought I would buy the Regular Slinkys (10s) and see what difference that would make. When I got online to buy I saw that Guitar Center had a sale on 12 packs and since there is a pandemic, I thought it prudent to hoard strings. My logic was that while I may run out of TP, I would never run out of strings for my guitars. Long story short, you cannot go wrong with the tone of 10s. I do like them better than the 11s. They are much clearer in the low end and you get more definition. I have to do less EQing when recording and they just seem to pop better in a mix. The only downside is that they are taking me time to get used to, I play very heavy handed and these are much easier to bend. But I can already see that I have less hand fatigue.Richard

What can I say about the Ernie Ball acoustic guitar string set? Ernie Ball makes great strings I've been using them for years mostly on electrics. The string breakage is little or nothing. I don't know, the only guitar strings I've ever owned that lasted and lasted and lasted were those very expensive Optima gold strings. But with those strings I worry about breaking them. so a nice little set of strings like the Ernie Ball acoustics do just fine. I've been playing guitar since 1969, and have used countless brands and varieties of acoustic guitar strings. My first go around with Earthwood strings was less than impressive, as I had the ball end fall off of the high E as I was removing it from the package. This put me off Earthwoods for a while, but when I came across an inexpensive project guitar a while back the only acoustic strings available to me at the time were Earthwoods. I bought that set out of necessity and strung the guitar up. I love the gauge of this set since it's only slightly heavier than the sets I've been using on my electrics for years and very comfortable to play, while not sacrificing much in the bottom end of the tone. I was thoroughly impressed with these strings to the point that they're now my go to acoustic strings. Naturally every guitar is going to sound slightly different and every player will have different taste in the way a set feels and sounds to them, but these are my favorite right now. Overall: I've been using these for a while now. I switched to a well know long-lasting brand for my MD60BG Alvarez just to see if it would like those strings because my other guitars seem to do OK on them. It lost all its sparkle and deep bass. those strings also sounded buzzy.I will never use anything except these on all my guitars. now I know these earthwoods are indeed the best strings. the best strings at any price.

I have been doing a comparison of silk & steel strings from multiple brands, and these are by far the loosest feeling and easiest to play. They really do feel like having nylon strings on a steel guitar. This is great if you want to make playing easier, and it definitely does. The sound is pretty good too, not as loud as regular strings but a more sweet sound. If your guitar has low action you will probably get fret buzz since these are basically extra lights. Also, another plus to these strings is that they are wrapped with silk at the ball end, which is good for delicate or older instruments. I would recommend these for people who want the easiest to play strings. Otherwise the LaBella 710L strings sound similar and aren't quite so light.Chris
Looking at the description, I wasn't sure if it had "silk" threads underneath the wrap wire. On the Martin website, "silked" seemed to refer to the windings at the ball end. I took a string apart and, indeed, it is a true silk and steel. I'm using them on a very old Gibson flat top with many repaired cracks. I got the first set of these as a gift and put them on one of my guitars. When I played the guitar it seemed a lot easier to play, silky smooth, and sounded very good. I would not think that strings could make that big of a difference but they do. I feel just like Yngwie ripping up the fret board. This 008 – 046 gauge is the ideal for heavy metal and fast players. You have a very soft 1st string for fast and easy pull ups, and a heavier 6th string for better palm muting and power chords. It is not random that Malmsteen plays with this set. Bullets also help to keep things in tune. If they were 008-010-014 I thing it would be better though.
These strings are awesome. I am a die hard EVH user. I own 27 guitars and have EVH strings on all of them. But I am now migrating towards these strings. Some of my top model guitars are strung with Yngwie strings. I buy them whenever I can. They feel great and sound even better. If Yngwie actually uses this product, I can see why. I have been using Stingjoy string on my 3 Ibanez electric guitars and a 5 string Fender Jazz bass bass for a couple years now. I really cannot comment on the bass strings- I just do not change them often enough. The electric guitars on the other hand I change quite frequently. I have found that the Strinjoy strings make more and a broader sound 'acoustically'- that is with the guitar unplugged, and as I use low to medium output PUPS that 'acoustic' sound translates when plugged in. Over the years I have managed to get a handle on Floyd Rose double locking systems which can offer really solid tuning stability once you do learn how to manage them. With the Stringjoy strings the tuning stability on my FR guitars went from very good to ridiculously solid. Once the a new set of strings are settled in, If I stick to whole tone bends or < and nothing environmental intervenes, I can play 6 plus hours a day and be not need to tune, or if I do it is just to sharpen the high E and perhaps B string occasionally. The tuning stability coupled with the great sound and extended time the strings sound good has made Stringjoy strings my electric guitar strings of choice.Shaun F
This FiveStar review is really more of a projected rating. At the time I ordered the super balanced set, I also ordered a set of Broadways. They are beautiful strings – amazing tone and vibracy. Plus they’ve lasted 3 months- a LONG for all the bending I do. This may be partly because I also decided to use the StringJoy string conditioner, a product Ive always stayed away from. Stringjoys formula is awesome and most importantly safe for the guitar wood and finish (I ran a test on a couple beaters). I’m looking forward to trying the Balanced set- I’ve pieced sets together to get that combination- perfect for taming the loud G string on my Strat. I went up in price of product in the hope that the strings would be colour coded but more importantly, packed singly to make identifying the right string during a gig would be easier. Given the latest price hike, one tends to use the strings for longer and the risk of breaking one during a gig is higher. Guess I'll just have to use old packaging…hey ho.John V.
I dont really know if there are any pros??? to be honest with you, other than the price was fair. I feel like i fell for another marketing ploy .. there is really nothing any different from these strings than your basic Ernie ball's other than the EB"s come individually wrapped so i dont have to Mic each string.. cons… well the fact that you need to mic each string before putting them on kinda bummed me out.. lucky I have a mic and know how to use it… wonder if you do?ronshalita

Habe die Saiten auf meinen beiden Brian May Gitarren. Der Klang ist spitze. So lange die Goldbeschichtung noch nicht abgespielt ist, setzen sie nicht an. Man kann die Saiten aufziehen und auch längere Zeit nicht auf der Gitarre spielen, trotzdem klingen sie nach längerer Zeit immer noch brilliant. Der Preis ist natürlich heftig, aber ist ja auch vergoldet 🙂 Auf jeden Fall empfehlenswert ! ! !

I had recently purchased another guage here a Musicians Friend from another brand, & was very satisfied, but was having a bit of a hard time seeing the markings unless in a very well lit room. I hate to give a bad review of Earthwood because I've played and loved the other Earthwood strings; however I tried these Rock & Blues strings on my Taylor as well as my Fender Sonoran and was not happy at all with the sound. For me I think it is the fact that the g-string is like an electric string and not wound like an acoustic string. Because of that, when I strum the whole acoustic sound is "off". Sure the string is easier to bend for lead, but to me it's not worth the trade off of having a bad sound when strumming.Strums the Word
If you have soft, weak hands, don't even bother unless you wanna toughen them up. If you want a warm tone, these strings give you the warmth that's expected from these gauges and the 80/20 is the difference. Perfect for that Country or Classic Rock sound. You definitely get the 'new string' sound starting off and the sound only gets better. They also stretch fine for open tunings such as open E which I love for slide playing, steel or glass. To my ears, bare-finger picking and medium gauge picks bring out the best in these strings.
I use to buy Martin Marquis strings but the price went up and I thought I would try these Ernie Ball strings. I put a set on my guitar yesterday evening and they sound good. I like buying the packs of strings instead of single packs. We will see if they have a long or short life. The sound is great.Hunter Dan
