This bass is everything anyone could want. You can dial in consistent tones for Jazz, Rock, Blues; anything you can imagine. You're only limited by your amp and skill. Good for novices or pros, and priced for both of them. I play progressive rock/metal, jazz, classical, fusion, etc and the bass lends itself well to all these things. The hardware is solid: the tuners tight, the bridge stable, and the nut functions as prescribed. Some people have problems with the TEK bridge but I personally find it convenient. No cross-talk, easy stringing, reliable setup that DOESN'T BUDGE. The pickup/preamp complements the bass and its resonance qualities. Passive EMG HZ pickups with the mahogany body work together constructively. The bass and treble controls work well with amps, not adding much to the gain of the signal but still affecting the tone strikingly. The body and neck are well constructed and add a lot to the tone. Mahogany+maple+rosewood are the essential dream-team. Access up to the 24th fret is relatively easy. The satin finish allows more vibrations to transfer through the hardware and body. The quality craftsmanship is fairly decent. The fret ends are smooth and all the edges are clean. The factory setup is alright but I like my action low for easy playability. Overall, the bass is clean, simple, and contributes to any playing style well.ProgJazzMetalBassist
Overall: When I purchased this bass guitar, I did it on a whim based purely off how much I like the sound of Schecter 6 string guitars. I was prepared to be a little disappointed and make a trade in if necessary, but no, I pulled this baby out of the box and fell straight in love from the first ultra twangy acoustic note. A few hours tweaking my Fender Rumble amp (also courtesy of zZounds) and suddenly I had THE sound I had been chasing. The layout of the pot functions were confusing at best but Schecter released an online wiring diagram so a little research got me exactly what I needed; excellent customer support in that regard, but with the quality of this bass, I feel as if I'll never even need to contact customer support in order to give them a review on it! Everything from chunky 90's post-punk to soft jazz to slap bass in tha face to dad rock to death metal to orchestral, just turn a few knobs and this baby knocks it out of the park. I found this bass on ebay. It is a little beat up but that doesn't affect the sound and gives it a little character. I was pleasently surprised by the sound of this bass. I have only played it thru one of my amps (practice amp) so I really can't tell how it will sound thru a bigger amp. But, it sounds GREAT thru my practice amp which usually translates to WONDERFUL into my bigger rigs. It's got some good low end without being muddy and a great hi cut thru type of sound in the highs. Not as snappy as my P=bass but acceptable. Not real versital but what sounds you get are really very useable for most gigs. Overall, one of my favorites..

Overall: I love the sound and playability of this wonderful instrument. My only complaint is with FedEx, they delivered a day late and at 10pm. they did not walk it up tp the door they left it in the middle of a driveway I share with a neighbor and left with no notification. I just happened to hear their door slam. I opened the front door as they left. I walked out to the driveway and stepped on the package because it was so dark. If you are tired of searching for a professional sound buy this bass. I hated the mim fender deluxe model, but fender did something special with this bass. It has a clear piano like quality to it. My two sire basses sound like toys up against it. I have wasted so much money on lesser basses. I'm just trying to help my fellow bass players out there. Everyone says that I sound good playing my other basses, but there are certain ugly overtones that I don't want to hear in my bass. This bass doesn't have those unwanted frequencies, it is voiced beautifully. I know that most of tone is in the fingers, but at the end of the day you know what you want to hear. If you are an audiophile this is the bass for you. I have spent weeks demoing this bass and no matter what amp you run it through it sounds good. I played it at a church last week and all I can say is it was nasty. My wife ordered mine yesterday for my birthday and it's suppose to arrive today, fingers crossed.Eric

That history and background left me with a bias against fender and an eye for other "better" production guitars like the Stingray which is my other go-to bass. That being said, I am blown away by this bass. It is a SOLID instrument with no flaws or blemishes that I can detect. It came from the factory with an almost perfect setup. I had to make a minor intonation adjustment on the low B and E strings but the string height, pickup height, and neck position were perfect. Fender's Ultra Noiseless pickups (a stacked humbucker really) sound great in passive mode emphasizing a fat bottom end and the tone nob adds a good bit of mids. The highs are kinda meh for me but the active switch takes care of that and I can get as bright as I want. The 18v active preamp provides a lot of room to boost or cut low, mid, and high frequencies to get just about any sounds I want (I still prefer my Sting Ray if I want to get real funky). This is about the best sounding 5-string I've had. Most 5-strings sounds great as 4-strings and SUPER muddy when you work the low-b string but this bass brings it out without too much mud.T. DeWees

After a tech looked at it, it was discovered that it was a bad front pickup. It was beyond the store warranty, so I took it up with fender. After 2 weeks of going back and forth between them and the store that I bought it at, it was determined that fender would send the pickup to the technician if my choice and they would fix it. But it would take 30 days because they send it directly from the manufacturer. Which still boggles my mind, because the slowest mail would be less than a week? So my opinion of fender customer service has dropped considerably. A working musician doesn't have 30 days to do without their instrument. This is unacceptable. I decided to purchase the pickup myself. I can get it in the mail in 2 days, and put it in myself. However this is a great base if you happen to get one with good parts in itJerry

I purchased this amp after buying a les Paul , plugging into my Princeton chorus and not getting the sweet warmth I heard hours before. I no longer want or need pedals (although occassional delay) its 3 channels are plenty for warm blues or rock. Tone rich. And a bargain at the time, as I see it for @ $1000 now. Best bang for my buck.

This immaculately fabricated Fender Precision (Japanese made) is the ultimate in understated seventies chic, think JJ Burnel or even Roger Waters – whether youre into punk or prog (or bothprunk?!?) this bass will do it. Its slightly neck heavy which is probably due to it having a basswood body but hey, it looks damned fine so Ill let it slip. The tone is superb, just slapping that E string is enough to shake a songs foundation. As Ive mentioned before, construction, fit and finish is top-notch, in fact as good as USA quality. Features: The materials are what you'd expect from a guitar in this price point. Ease of Use: Almost too easy. It's a very simple setup and ultra versatile when dialing in predictable tones from the jazz or P pickups. Absolutely floored at how well this bass sounds in recordings, etc. Quality: Build quality is questionable. The packaging from the manufacturer is absolutely abysmal and surprised it made it here without much damage. The guitar arrived with a detached knob, shifted nut and misaligned saddles. I've been working with guitars for around 2 decades, so this wasn't much of an issue for me as it was requiring a setup like 99.9999999997% of new instruments do. Value: An absolute steal. Sounds and feels better than most guitars in its price range and even beyond. Overall: I initially wanted to return this bass for a Spector Euro 4LX without having played it first. My concerns were rooted in previous reviews for Skyline series basses and the issues with quality and sound with the lack of a 2 or 3-band preamp for flexibility.Absolutely stunned at how well this bass sounds after getting over the small build issues. This thing punches well above its weight.

Lakland DJ5 w/upgraded EMG active preamp knocks it out of the park. Expanded tone variations and excellent output with practically no single coil hum factor. For someone with average sized hands, this 5stringer neck is totally comfortable to play with easy access to all frets, including the low frets on the B string. Astetically beautiful stylish design with the maple fingerboard w/white binding, white MOP block inlays and matching white body and headstock. Pros: This is a beautiful neck-through bass with a luscious satin mahogany body, and matte gold hardware. 5 control knobs – volume, pickup selector/tone, then 3 band EQ. Stays in tune. Great tone. Cons: The active pickups/EQ require TWO 9v batteries! Don't need changing often though (like every few years, playing 2 hours a week). The matte gold hardware is prone to some mild patina formation. In some electronic environments you get a bit of hiss from the pickups. I think fluorescent lights contribute to this. Mitigated by turning down the treble EQ knob, and fixed if your sound guy kills the highs on the mixer.blueflame1611
Overall: Absolutely BEAUTIFUL looking 5-string bass!!!! In your hands, in your sight, and in your lap, this guy is stunning. Stunning to look at and to handle. Schecter really nailed it on the Stiletto series. That low B sting is what I have been looking for in a bass for a while now. I mostly am into classic rock & country type of stuff. But I am also into 70's funk like Stevie Wonder. The low B is a MUST for old school funk and reggae. When I first got the guitar, it was way out of tune and every string vibrated like mad. So when you first get your guitar from zZounds, it is not set up. That is a chore for the end user. Which is great because a musician should not have to be completely reliant on a "professional" tech in order to perform basic comprehensive maintenance on their instrument. So, I emailed zZounds requesting some help and advice from them for the proper setup of my newly bought bass. As quick as that, they replied with a bunch of links to help me get myself up to speed. After reviewing the guides, I was able to tune my bass and set the truss rod properly. Now my Stiletto sounds dang near perfect! To be honest, I am not that great of a player. I do have a musical background, but I am pretty new on the bass. But I can tell you that the more I practice with this guy and listen and appreciate its wonderful sound through the Markbass I'm using, the more I am happy with this purchase. TL;DR Excellent instrument. I now own 5 solid body neck-throughs: Two 4003's, two Warwicks, and this Schector, which just arrived yesterday. I don't think I'm a good enough expert to sit and analyze each bass's pros and cons, and then try them out with a bunch of different amp/speaker combinations. That's what they pay the guys at Bass Player for. All I can say is I haven't stopped grinning about this Studio-4 since I opened the box. Easy playability, excellent build quality, sexy looks, and a good, loud, punchy sound. What's not to like ? I will say this: The EQ knobs don't do a wide range of tone-shifting. The EMG pickups are very bright, modern-sounding, and with the stock Ernie Ball RW strings, that's exactly what I wanted. Plenty of glass up top, and a bit (maybe a bit too much) at the bottom. If you're looking for P-bass thud-thud Motown sound, my first thought is this may not be your best bet, although with flatwounds it would probably be within dial-able range on your rig. The rest is all good, and this would make a great bass for a student, a working bassist or the dedicated hack (that's me). If you're a world-famous bass soloist, this may not necessarily be the axe you'd take the stage with, but I'm betting you'd spend lots of time practicing your moves on it. It will keep up. I no longer want or need pedals (although occassional delay) its 3 channels are plenty for warm blues or rock. Tone rich. And a bargain at the time, as I see it for @ $1000 now. Best bang for my buck.

This is a beautiful well balanced instrument with outstanding tone flexibility. Both active and passive.I've had it a litte over a month and have not put it down. I had to have it set up out of the box but other than that it's exactly what they say it is. It has a lot of features that I see in the more expensive basses and it sounds, feels like the higher end basses that I own. I can gig and travel with this bass with no worries. Sustain and attack, the custom collection element 5r bass is an upgraded version of the standard custom collection bass guitars. featuring a roasted maple neck and head, pau ferro fretboard, and a striking buckeye burl top over the lightweight indonesian mahogany body. the body still has all the comfort features like the arm and belly cut you have come to expect from michael kelly. the impact of a bridge on the performance of a bass guitar is something that people too often underestimate. in fact, the bridge is key to many aspects of tone and we gave it the full respect that it deserves. you will see that we used a solid molded bridge with tight slots for each fully-adjustable saddle, a big enhancement on its own. we, however, took that further. under that bridge is an aluminum tone block. we add that hidden block to add sustain and attack. since it is aluminum, it does not add weight to the bass, but has a similar sonic impact to using a heavy bridge. we call this bridge-and-internal-block combination the mk stealth attack bridge system. in addition to the upgraded neck and stealth attack bridge system, this guitar has our element active circuit electronics, but we have changed it up a little by utilizing a push/pull volume pot to switch from active to passive modes. we have also added a pickup blend knob in place of the 3 way toggle switch, giving you loads more control over your tones. add to that separate bass and treble controls, and rockfield 5sw pickups that are specially voiced for the element basses, and you have a super comfortable, lightweight, highly playable and fully controlled tone monster. california proposition 65 warning warning: cancer and reproductive harm – www.p65warnings.ca.gov.
