Its a little by chance what you get from mex. fenders in terms of craftsmanship and details. Mine has a little dent and a little gap between neck and body but it is sturdy. Fret work is not like americans. Tone wise and playability is good. I like the look of pau ferro wood. Neck shape is comfy not like 70s baseball bat p bass more like 70s j bass. The orange color is the reason i pick this one, fender changing colors every two three years so if you have this color in mind go for it. Much much better in real than pictures. Overall, if you need a good practice/little jamming bass its a good alternative. Instead of squiers go for this. I have sire as well, if you dont like/need active preamp simple is the best. Also, this new pickups are good, have good bass and midrange not scooped like some american pickups. One final thing, I've tried couple of player series before ordering this, some of them is not well at all in build quality. So, it is a little surprise what you get, check after you buy it and then decide to keep it or not. Have fun..
Purchased the Fender Player Jazz bass. Overall great looks and sound, but some quality issues from the Fender Mexico factory (not Andertons' fault): – First bass had very clear weird uneven blemish under the varnish on the sunburst body. Not awful, but if I was in-store I would never have chosen that particular item. Returned and swapped by Andertons, no quibbles. Second bass arrived. Overall happy, sounds great, but still a few issues with quality control and design. – Control plate was missing 2 screws and was moving around – how does that get through Fender quality control? Replacement screws sent free of charge by Andertons. – Nut has not been slotted correctly – high G must have been passed through a machine and slipped, string is clearly a couple of mm too close to fretboard edge and you can see the failed first pass. Doesn't really affect playability, but is annoying and I will get it corrected at some point. Again, points to poor quality control. – Fretboard (Pau Ferro) is really thin – on the Player series, at least. Neck fret dot markers in white are half over the mid-dark fretboard, half over the light maple neck. Very hard to see in low light levels. OK, so they're just an indicator for position, but the design isn't great. So overall, the bass sounds great and Andertons service was very good. …and falls in love. Let me start by saying I actually have owned one other P-Bass. I had a 50s reissue Precision, but honestly the neck was just too thick for my liking after years of playing Jazz basses. Honestly, it felt thicker than the neck on my Yamaha 5-string. So, I picked this bass up after always dancing around getting what would be considered a more standard P-Bass. I have a 70s Jazz with a ton of modifications, I've had quite a few other brands of basses, but I wanted to see what the fuss was about. I ordered this a few weeks ago, and have been very pleasantly surprised. The action was pretty good out of the box. I adjusted it a bit, made a few tiny tweaks to the intonation, and now it's super smooth. And, on the pickups, let me say it's a great sounding bass. Pickups are clear, bass sounds great. I play through a little Ampeg Micro cabinet. Earlier this week, I bought some Flats to throw on it (because that's what you do with a P-bass, right?) and now it's quickly becoming one of my favorite instruments to jam with. It really cuts through the mix when playing in a group. I see why folks really love the sound of a precision. My Jazz still has it's place, but man, I really like the sound of this bass. The Player P is a great value for what you get. I've never owned an older MIM, but I research the heck out of pretty much any purchase I make, and it looks like Fender really stepped it up with this rendition of their MIM Precision basses. Good tone out of the box, no discernible pickup noise, good action, a beautiful neck, and a Tidepool Blue finish that just shines and shines.Dennis F

As the headline says…it's very enjoyable to play. I've even made several recordings using it instead of my Fender USA Pro 2 Precision. It does a decent job on the P pickup; the J has lower output. To my surprise I'm really digging the "raw" feel of the neck; it's bare, tho sanded well. Another surprise: neck profile width and taper is like a J bass, yet the depth/shape feels more like a P! Huh!? Hey, works for me! With its black body and pickguard and the maple fingerboard it looks like it means BUSINESS! Point removed for the too-stiff tuner action. And then…I've managed to get the action very low, just where I like it. (FWIW, even on my USA Pro 2 I had to shim the neck to be able to get the level of low action that I prefer.) Yes, ladies n gentleman, I really appreciate this Affinity PJ. I am considering using it for punk and classic rock parts of the band's gigs; not out of the question at all!Leo
This bass looks, feels, and sounds great! Did they nail the bodywork and neck lines? No, not completely. But that's about as much as I've got for negatives. This is one of the best 5 string necks I've felt. Less pizza shaped than the EHB but almost that good. Could have been nice to see a heavier finish on the fretboard but the edges are rolled with no sharp frets at all – unlike my cv 70s P. Sound on this Destroys the EHB and my sr505. Can't say how road worthy the pots and tuners are but I don't want to change anything and mess with this mojo. Unless you need silent pickups and can live with the tradeoffs. I don't know what you would need other than maybe a beefier jack. Setup was mind blowing. Literally took it out of the box in store. Got home, string height was dialed, haven't checked intonation yet but sounds fine. Was hardly even out of tune. Strings feel quality, I will probably even hold off changing those. This bass is making a lot of basses look and sound like questionable decisions. If you are worried about durability, honesty, get a good hard case. This thing feels plenty solid. Make sure the tuners and string trees are greased up and jam away.Arturo
I got mine in Black body, black pickguard, maple neck with maple fingerboard, It came with good setup right out of the box, I like the headstock's face with large "Precision Bass" 70's style logo, with gloss tint on it. The maple neck is one piece neck. I have other Affinities basses but this one sounds terrific, a lot of growl sound on P pickups , I like the P sound but also the J pickup is welcome. I always like this combination: black on black with maple fingerboard. I recommend this bass, Squier is getting better and better with the years. The only complain with this is that the Jazz Pickup is less sounding than the P bass pickup, I needed to rise the Jazz pickup to get better output but not the same output than the Precision pickup.Garedot

Sound: Been playing guitar for 30 years and have now started focusing on Bass. This is my step up from a beginner bass. Has Ibanez 300. It was ok but getting good tones wasn't so awesome. This bass nails the tone. Never have a problem being heard in the mix. Features: Had to Balance the cost of a Fender Player series vs this bass. Frankly the maple neck with block inlays and the bordered neck is just a great look that wasn't available in the Player series. What I wish I had was the heavier bridge with the through body string mounting and the tuners could be better quality. My goal was getting the Fender J bass tones and it certainly has that. I don't mind the glossy neck in the least. Quality: I had to adjust the neck significantly. Action was obviously too high. I would say for a beginner level know that you may need to take this to someone to have it adjusted to a more playable condition. It was playable out of the box but was stressing my hand the longer I played. Value: Not gonna get a better classic sounding bass at this price point. The Wow Factor: Squire certainly nailed the look of this bass and it comes with all the pleasing curves of a Fender J bass. Plays and sounds great. Overall: Great looking bass. I got the blonde. Bordered maple neck with block inlays. It has a more "roasted" color than my blonde strat, I really like the look and it plays very well after some adjustment. I did have one dead note high up on the neck that may require some fret work. Tomes cant be beat at this price.
I really like the bass I found, I played a bunch of these and they were all different. I got this one brand new in the box after playing a floor model. But after opening and inspecting, the setup was not really that good, so I did the setup, polished a few minor flaws and it plays excellent. I noticed the sound and the tone variation when blending the volumes and the tone pot really makes a difference, I can say that this was not the case of all of them I played. Mine has a three piece body, I've seen 1 and 2 piece bodies as well in this same model. I could not find another three piece, that's why I fixed the problems and kept it, because it sounds so good, there is something definitely different about this one. The tone, volume and dynamics between the strings is very balanced and it speaks bass if you know what I mean. I would be hard pressed to find another bass like this one. I've played this bass with a couple of bands and everyone likes the tone and I can say this bass has character and it is very musical and fun to play. So try it out and see and hear how you like it, I recommend this bass for beginners and professionals.Warren, F

I've had this bass for almost two weeks now, maybe a bit more. I didn't give my feedback befor today, since I would've given it less than a one. However, I waited for a reason. The sound is great, and I don't mind the sound of the stock pickups. It looks great, but that's trivial to me compared to the sound. Now here's a problem that few have mentioned. While some said, it's playable right out of the box, IT ISN'T. I got the bass in a pretty bad condition. Meaning, the action was too high, and the pickups were too close to the strings. It was virtually unplayable, even though I convinced myself that I could play it; which I did. But the pain in my fingers was indescribable, I almost got depressed. I changed my strings a week later to SH77 flat wounds .50 (heavy and thick strings), which didn't help initially. So I tried adjusting the action myself, but still wasn't enough. A day later, I sent it to a professional for setup. Now that made all the difference. I'm in love now. The strings sound amazing, the bass plays amazing, the feel is amazing, …. in brief it's amazing. Bottom line, have it setup by a professional ( unless you are a professional technician), otherwise you'll struggle with this bass. Unfortunately, the agent at MF mentioned that it's playable right out of the box, and I was naive to believe it. Anyway, live and learn. Set it up, and you'll already to go. I purchased a Sterling sub series stingray5 a week earlier and really wasn't happy so I went to return it. While I was there I was trying out some of the usual fenders that are in stock and just wasn't feeling it. Then, I noticed this one. I played it for 5 minutes and couldn't stop. It had the most comfortable neck I've ever played. After comparing it to a couple more expensive p bass options, this one was still the clear winner. The design may not be typical fender, and it's almost reminiscent of an Ibanez or a Washburn, but the ergonomic are like no other. Trust me this guitar is worth a shot. The tone is warm and growly. If you could imagine mixing the bass tone of the red hot chili peppers and the pixies, this would be what it sounds like.Chris
I got this bass recently and have to say its my go to bass for everything. I have a few others like a Dean which is nice, but feels odd due to its weight balance. But the Aerodyne sits well and feels comfortable. I think the tone of it sounds really good. Bought this in store so I got to test it out, action isnt bad. I have a Trans Amber Quilt Top and it's not only beautiful, it is fun to play! I took it camping with a little Flamma FA05 amp that can run off a small sine wave inverter that I have. That was so much fun. I have 5 guitars on a Hercules rack but the Steinberger sits next to my office desk where I can just grab it and plink away. It is so small and compact it doesn't interfere with my work stuff and it doesn't bump into things. It sounds great through my Orange amp and Boss ME80 when I want to kick things up. The people who moan about setup and the like need to spend a little time and learn how to tweak the setup which on the Spirit is really EZ to do. And once you dial it in, it stays in tune and properly setup for a long time. Got a little fret edge? Use a fret file and take it down. Done deal in 10 seconds. I have never understood peeps that don't want to maintain their equipment from start to finish. Oh well. The pickups are fine for ordinary purposes. The single coil is a bit high and maybe low output which can be annoying but I learned to live with it. You can always take it out or replace it. The humbuckers are solid and reliable. No complaints. The whammy bar is cool and can be locked. It stays in remarkably good tune due to the double ball ends. The little leg rest is all metal and has never given me a problem. I did have to tighten the cable jack nut a couple of times but that wasn't difficult to do. The quilt top is really quite good. i wish there were more of it but then the guitar wouldn't have the qualities that I bought it for… namely size and convenience. All in all it's worth every penny of the $400 they are asking.
I got the hotrod yellow. How often do you see a yellow guitar? I also have a $1600 bass and this sounds just as good! I had to do a complete setup which is unusual, adjust the truss rod,saddles,pickup height. It plays and sounds amazing now. Downsides are, you have to buy an adaptor(if you can find one) to use regular strings of your choice. The strap extender which made the bass sit right and more playable cannot be found and is no longer made. Lastly you need to buy a special stand which is also hard to find cause it wont fit on a standard one. I managed to buy the adaptor and the stand from Reverb. As always American musical delivers excellent service and has made many purchases become a reality with the payment system! I no longer shop at music stores all my buisness is done here! The crafstmanship is better then you would expect for the price point. The fit and finnish seems great no sharp edges. The gigbag has a larger pocket and seems a little better quality then the one I got with my GT-Pro years ago. I would recommend a hardshell if you play out a lot with this.Scott G.
I bought this guitar because my back and shoulder have been hurting a lot recently, even with reasonably light guitars. I also tried the Strandberg Boden, but although it was lighter than this I could not justify the huge amount of money and didn't feel it was worth it. So I went with this, the original headless! (or version of) For the money, you can't fault it – I am very happy and play it all the time. So in many ways it deserves 5 stars. There are some bits I don't love though: The volume knob is so close to the strings I knock it a lot. If you are a very precise player this won't be an issue, but if you're going at it Cobain style you will. For the size, it could be lighter. It is still considerably lighter than a "normal" guitar though. The pickups are not great. However, I knew this going in, and with the guitar being so affordable and pickups being the easiest component to replace, this is what I plan on doing. The middle pickup is too close to the strings – I hit it a lot. Again, fixable. The neck profile gets weirdly thinner the closer you get to fret 1. I use this guitar for metal, so I don't mind, but I can't play chords on it, for that I need some girth! I want to end on a high, so here are the things I really like! General playability – it plays really well! A joy. Fretwork – top notch. Tremolo system – Why do more guitars not have the knob at the back to adjust the spring tension? It is fantastic. As is the quick way to lock it off. I've not had a floating trem in years because of the hassle, this is much better. Flip out leg rest – just what you need for seated playing. Been playing guitar for 18 years, but I started taking bass lessons about 6 months ago. I've had this bass for one week now, and I can't put it down. It has quickly become my favorite! I already own a 4-string double humbucker rock-style bass and also a 4-string passive jazz bass, so I was ready for my first 5-string bass—now I have three basses with different configurations that are perfect for my current needs. The BTB745 bass is wonderfully crafted. BUILD/QUALITY: The sense I get is this bass could withstand slipping from its floor stand and slamming to the floor. The sturdy build quality, finish, electronics, and individual controls layout seem first rate when you examine it closely. COMFORT/ PLAYABILITY: Its playability as a 35" scale bass is a little tougher for someone 5'-8" tall if you have small hands and average length arms like me, but I found that after the sixth day of playing 30 minutes every day that I quickly adapted. You may have to tweak the individual string heights, but mine didn't need a full setup. SOUND/TONES: I love the variety of sounds you can get from this instrument, but I find myself simply adjusting my amp to one gratifying low and tight thumping setting on my Markbass amp, then I just toggle the bass's mid switch to emphasize the level of what I want for any particular song, and finally, I was already familiar with the D'Addario NYXL strings that are a nice touch—so I'll stick with those for this bass. GENERAL NOTES: I do the Sunday church thing, so I primarily play on a Worship Team. This bass does take some getting used to because of its length, slightly heavier weight, wider fretboard, and the additional low B string. But if you play it every day for at least 30-45 minutes for a week or two, you'll adapt to it quickly. I'm already learning two songs that are so much easier to play, because of the low B. The Ibanez BTB745 series bass, which is worth its price, is my new favorite—I love it.Agape Guy
I have an Ibanez SR, 4 string, a Fender American Standard P-Bass, and was looking for a 5 string to get started with. Purchased this bass and have to say the richness of the tone is absolutely stunning. The neck does seem a little wide, but that suits me just fine. The amount of tone control with the three band EQ and the selectable mid band frequency is great. Also really like the ability to blend between the neck and bridge pickups. The finish on the bass is as good as any I have seen. The photo's do not do it justice. Surprisingly, for a Mahogany / Ash / Walnut body, the instrument is not particularly heavy. Having played Fender for years, and wanting something more modern aggressive tone for metal. I searched for another bass. After trying out several other brands with disappointment, and only having to return them. I took a chance on Spector. I ordered the Euro Lt because of the Bart pick ups and Dark Glass pre amp. Upon receiving it it was setup nice and no flaws. I plugged into my amp and was amazed by the sound, Nice highs, deep lows, but the mids, really punch. The feel of the bass reminded me of my older fenders. String spacing is perfect for the size of the neck. I'm not a big fan of tight string spacing. I love this bass so much I'm going to order a 4 sting in the future. It's that good. I also found myself turning down my amp and backing off the bass, mids and highs, which my Fender needed more of. I was a little skeptical at first, since this Mexican made bass carries an American price tag. However, after a few minutes of playing, that skepticism was dispelled. I have been playing bass for 25 years, over half semi-professionally. I own American Standard Jazz and Precision basses, and this goes toe to toe with them. I love the nitrocellulose finish! I don't really buy into the argument that it sounds better because the wood "breathes better", but it definitely feels better than the typical polyurethane on the American Standard that kind of sticks to you arm a little. The pickups are American made Pure Vintage 64, and while they have a lower output than the Fralins I added to my American Standard, I really like the softer vintage tone. I've put Leo Quan bridges on my other basses, and while this basic vintage style bridge doesn't have near the sustain, it seems to fit with the tone. I was not a fan of the road worn finishes at first, but this bass is just really looks cool. A tremendous amount of work goes into recreating the worn look, and I can appreciate that now. If you are skeptical about this bass like I was, do yourself a favor and check it out.Nick
Semi-pro bassist, 45 years playing. Anyone that's had a chance to spend some real time on a Roadworn bass beyond noodling around for 5 minutes at Guitar Center around already knows how good they feel… very playable. They have a broken-in feel that I can't readily define, just "that thing" that makes a person want to play more and stretch themselves further musically. I presently have around 20 basses in my stable, including American Fender Jazzes, Precisions (one from as far back as '71), Gibson T-Bird, Ric 4003W, etc, but these days I play out with two basses, the RW Precision and this Flea RW Jazz. Mine clocks in at precisely 9lbs, a great weight for a Jazz, and again it feels like a bass that's seen a million notes. A really cool functional difference between this Jazz and most other Jazzes is the stacked knobs, each with independent tone control. As an all-American Fender player for decades, I can't readily speak to other Mexican-made Fenders but I can say with no uncertainty that these Mexican jewels show off the best in their craftsmanship, end of story. And I'm tired of hearing some naysayers ask why you pay $400 more than a Mexican built Standard when "all they do is take a hammer to a new one"… this demonstrates an incredibly short-sighted view and fails to properly recognize and account for the painstaking additional effort, time, and cost involved in creating these basses.Dr. Random
The Fender “Flea” Jazz Bass is an amazing instrument! Very lightweight, and true to form of the Fender Jazz Bass, the neck profile is perfect! Very thin and fast! The pickups sound great and the stack knob configuration is a perfect addition to give this Bass it’s vintage feel and vintage look! From the vintage look of the tuners to the bridge this Bass is pattered exactly after Flea’s early 1960’s Jazz Bass! The tone is nice and punchy just as a J Bass should be! The balance of this particular Bass is perfect! It hangs on the neck and shoulder like a feather! I can easily do a four hour gig with the Fender Flea Jazz Bass! This Mexican -made bass captures the look, playability and sound of a late 1950s P-Bass. It is very well built and shares the exact same bridge, anodised pick guard, knobs, ,’reverse’ tuners and strap buttons as its twice as expensive US-built ‘Original Series’ P-bass. The electronics are the same as fitted to an American Standard Precision with plastic coated wiring. Finish is polyurethane but is well done and doesn’t ‘strangle’ the sound one bit. Regarding sound, this model holds its own very well with more expensive models of Vender P-basses. The maple board one-piece neck with walnut insert at rear looks authentic and this neck, while chunky to some hands, is very comfortable and the whole thing is reassuringly solidly built. However the range of colours available is severely limited. Mine is in the now-deleted Fiesta Red. This bass is quite likely the best value that Fender does, given its price to quality ratio. The ‘Classic Series’ 50s P-Bass is a very competent professional-level instrument and will not fail to deliver. Well worth a look for anyone seeking a new Fender Precision Bass, it really is that good.Eamonn
Don't let the MIM cast any preconceived notions about quality on this ax – it is worth the jack for build and the beautiful tone it generates. Straight forward P with no frills, just a great look – the two tone sunburst with the gold metal pick guard really go. The road worn is fine, I can take it or leave it, not overdone though. The weight and weight distribution are fantastic, guessing mine comes in at just 8 lbs, if not a hair less. Overall: Extremely well made, great quality control and a great attention to detail. Hipshot tuners and bridge, the fit and finish was top notch and it balances like a dream. It’s very versatile sonically too. I am able to get a great variety of sounds out of it even without a preamp. Pickups sound really good and even though it’s a passive bass, the output is still really good. Out of the box setup was pretty good, I made a few tweaks to the action but the intonation was spot on and the truss Rod was adjusted properly. I highly recommend this bass, I am very pleased with it and it has become my number 1 for playing out and for practicing.Kris
I'm glad I ordered this PRS bass from Pro Audio Star. I stumbled onto it while browsing eBay and asked for more pictures. This was supposed to be an "Open Box" purchase that I was very hesitant about. After receiving the bass I immediately took it to my music room and plugged it up. I surely didn't expect the volume I was getting from the passive pickup system or the gig bag I wasn't expecting to receive. The thru body neck and thru body string system provides plenty of sustain and phenomenal clarity and resolution. The clarity of each note was more than I could have asked for. I rank this bass right up there with some of my custom builds like Mike Lull and Status. Im not kidding. You really have to try this bass. The two massive Humbuckers deliver killer tones and plenty of volume for giging. I run all my basses through a Boss ME 50B pedalboard and then into a SansAmp for extra flexibility. The combination has been my goto setup for live performances and allows me to dial in whatever tone I want while on the fly. I would highly recommend this bass for any level of proficiency. The price was definitely a factor in the purchase.BradC
There is something about this bass that just works for me, its exceptionally playable with great feel and balance. Normally it takes me a long time to find a tone I like on a bass, but this PRS Kestrel just settled into a beautiful responsive sound within a few minutes, backed if the volume a touch and found the sweet spot between the pick ups and honestly havent changed it since finally found the bass for me!!!!bobbluemac

Overall: This is the perfect bass for me. I'm a J-Bass guy from way back but have always preferred a single EMG and the best bridge I could get. Anything more than a volume knob is too much for my taste – so much so that I used a couple of Performance basses from parts for years just because I could set it up the way I wanted. I think EMG read my mind on this. The ONLY thing I don't totally love is the reverse headstock because I just messes with me when tuning, but that's a minor issue. Everything else is perfect.

Bought this as an open box return. The finish was slightly scratched near the bottom strap peg (so slight I didn't notice it for several days) and one fret marker was missing leaving just the hole. For the price the damage was VERY minimal. I have yet to replace the missing fret marker and have never noticed any issues at all while playing. Overall, considering it was an open box return, the quality of the bass greatly exceeded my expectations. The bass itself is very nice. Good tone, ease of playability, sound electronics, solid construction, and overall of good quality. I wouldn't choose it over my Peavey T-40 but that's because I bought the Peavey new in 1980 and we've been best friends a long time. Otherwise the Rogue could have easily become my go-to bass. In summation, I would have no problem in recommending this guitar to a friend.Pokyhawk
There's not a lot to dislike. I thought I would have to strip the finish and redo it to my liking, but the blue sparkle actually looks quite nice. Tuners are sealed, and like the pickups and controls might need upgrading, but are perfectly serviceable right out of the box. Maybe this was because it was a scratch and dent special, but there was SEVERE fret sprout, so bad that I scratched my hand badly during initial playing. Fixing that isn't terribly difficult, though, and during that fix I noticed the action was a bit high, so I lowered it. Once I change the strings I'll give it a full setup for neck relief and all. I'm not docking it any points for this as you as the buyer should be aware that any instrument that you get in the mail, especially at this price, will likely need a setup done. I bought a rogue A/E guitar on a scratch and dent special and it's served me well over the years. I expect even better from this bass.SKR3N3S

This Bass sounds amzing!! great tone. Loudest acustic bass i haver heard. The issue is the first one i recevied one of the chrome "speaker looking ports" only had a small amount of glue holding it in in one spot. when it came off it took some of the finish with it. had it for an hour and sent it back. Just recevied my replacement looked over the whole and all parts are solid and in place. Then I while playing it I noticed at the top of the neck where the top F frett is on the neck looks like the clear coat is cracked. Not sure if the neck is or not. So as soon as these are bvack in stock I will send this one back and try a third time. If the next one ios good then cool. If not Regal can keep there bass. MF has been good about replacing and shipping just a pain and HUGE hassle. Bottom line sounds Great! Chia built.Chili514p
