Reviews:
This is a gorgeous guitar and plays amazingly well. The frets are rounded perfectly with no jagged edges. The frets are polished extremely well. The body is very comfortable, and the Duncan JB and '59 pickups are THE standard in rock pickups especially if you want those 80's rock tones ala VH, Ratt, Crue. BUT the ability to SPLIT the pickups makes this guitar extremely versatile for Blues, Country, and even Jazz if you roll the Tone off to warm it up. The Pro-Mod San Dimas is a sure to be a classic – Charvel guitars from the 80's are still highly sought after and retain their value very well. Not many people like to get rid of them though because they play so well and are made with quality craftsmanship. The Transparent Green Burst finish is gorgeous too. The spoke wheel makes for on the flow truss rod adjustments and it is DOUBLE reinforced – which makes it very resistant to warping. And finally, the Floyd Rose system is not the cheap version. The studs are quality metal which ensures smooth movement, the arm is also closer to the original FR bar which is also nice. TIP: wrap some plumbers tape along the outside of the collar to help close the space between it and the arm to tighten it so it doesn't swing so easily (old school trick 😉 FR bridges are incredibly stable and once you tine them and lock them down they stay in tune VERY well. Get a tremolo stabilizer or block it down to make string changes easier. Get this guitar – the combination of a basswood body, maple neck, jumbo frets, JB and '59 pickups, and a quality Floyd Rose bridge make this THE standard for rock and metal guitars. And they come in other great colors.mobiletechman
Sure, there are more expensive guitars that might have a bit more to offer…but for a grand? This is really superb quality and value rolled into one. The pickups are more than great. Seymour Duncans all around. JB in the bridge with no load tone. Cool thing is, if you feel its a tad too bright, just click down to 8 or 7 and it warms up nicely. I was afraid of the no load tone pot at first, but the little click helps tremendously. You know exactly where you are. The neck feels great. Like a thin C shaped Fender. Super fast! HSS config gives you plenty of options. It comes equipped with a Floyd 1000. Not their number one unit, but it is just fine and stays in tune very well. Even after a few dive bombs. I dont generally live in that realm, but nice to know it will hold its tune. Another thing, the guitar came set up just perfect for me. Zero adjustments needed. Quality on the build, paint job and finer points, is excellent. I bought this without even playing it beforehand and I was not disappointed. Good job Charvel/Fender!iluvnicki3
Pros: Neck feels amazing Coil spit delivers great tones Floyd Rose stays in tune great Sounds amazing Get lots of compliments about it Cons: The one thing I wish I knew before buying this is the "Extra Jumbo" frets. They're too darn huge and I often wish I knew that before buying this. The block where the neck is bolted on is huge and playing passed the 17th fret is tough. The pickup switch has a "dead spot" when switching so it's possible to go silent when moving the switch. I wish I tried the DK 24 HH FR before buying this because I feel that I would've been way more satisfied. Overall it's a great guitar. I love mine to death, but yeah beware of the cons if looking at this.Dan H

Reviews:
Overall: Let's start at the top. I have never had a guitar with in house tuners that are this good. The charvel locking tuners are phenomenal. Very smooth and precise, every bit as good as any gotoh tuners I've used. The nut does what it's supposed to, I've not had any tuning issues due to friction when using the trem. The neck. My god the neck is fantastic. It's a very comfortable thin shape that works for me perfectly. It is very very close to as smooth as my strandberg. The frets are about the only thing that leaves a bit to be desired. They're polished and rounded very nicely, however there are sharp edges. Pretty much every fret, bass and treble side. It isn't to the point where it's uncomfortable to play, but noticeable. I absolutely love the spoke truss rod adjustment wheel, not that I've needed to use it. The neck joint is absolutely the most comfortable bolt on I've ever played. The pickups are fantastic as well, not super high output but the clarity is insane. Exactly what I was looking for. The gotoh bridge was probably my biggest surprise. I've never played a non locking trem that actually stayed in tune and even after abusing it like I would a Floyd, lo and behold, still in tune! It's very comfortable as well. The output jack placement is genius and is comfortable in any sitting position. It would be perfect for sticking the cable in between the strap and guitar. I know it's cliche, but the pictures do not do it justice. It is a stunning guitar. The satin burgundy mist is about the coolest color I've seen on a guitar and compliments the roasted maple neck perfectly. Overall, the fit and finish of the guitar, aside from the frets, is flawless. I would still 100% recommend this guitar to anyone. It would be a great guitar for any type of music you play.
Overall: Not much more I can add to what’s been said so far (hit or miss QA, super smooth neck, really nice finish, crazy number of sonically pleasing tones, premium components work great..); it really is an excellent guitar. The matte blue version of this guitar I received had a really janky and loose pickup selector switch, so I had it swapped out for the exact part used in the (*ahem* almost identical $3500!!!!) American version. The fret edges were finished smooth right out of the box, but it badly needed a setup. Once that was done, it was perfect. It’s almost effortless to access all of the frets. The tremolo is different than a traditional Stratocaster style 2-point trem in that it’s way more sensitive and much tighter and way more stable. The only issue I’m having with it is, because of where the volume knob is and my way of playing, I roll the volume down on accident quite a bit. Kinda takes the edge off of a solo when it’s fading out as it’s building up. Also, I’ll eventually swap out the no-load tone control for a conventional one. The stock no-load tone control works just fine to control the tone, but I don’t like the extra click when it’s dialed all the way up. And at this price it should come with a bag.
On paper, a pink strat style guitar with humbuckers would be the last guitar I'd want to play. However seeing this Charvel Pro-Mod Dk24 on the wall in it's sort of darker pink (burgundy mist) just caught my eye so I played it. I knew I found a real player's guitar. The color grew on me even more and the functionality was great. Humbuckers you can run as single coils with the 5 way switch is very practical. I didn't want to put it down. Super strats have always been very versatile but I've never dreamed of buying one just because I always found the styling to be extreme. However the color is kind of soothing. The neck didn't leave much of an impression but I think that there's something nice about not having to think about the neck. If it works and I don't have to think about it, so be it. Played rock through a little orange amp well yet it also sounded beautiful with a lush clean sound through a Fender Princeton. I think super strat type guitars are starting to come around to the market. Between the Silver Sky the PRS Fiore I think the more mellow color/designs with the versatility they've always had are making super strats more desirable to new guitarists. This one's a great one.G

Reviews:
I got one of these in December 2014. That was 6 months after I put down my money and waited for Charvel to start shipping them. The two adjectives I've use for this guitar are 'practical' and 'tasteful'. The smooth feeling neck finish, the lightweight body, the super-slick volume knob, the sperzel locking tuners, big frets, two-tone neck dots, the accessible truss rod wheel, the super stable graphite reinforced neck, the tremel-no, the wide variety of usable tones from the pickups all make for a practical instrument. The 'half locking' trem with a bone nut, but a locking bridge (you cut the balls off and lock in the string, like a Floyd) is exactly right. No big lump of fine tuners to avoid. No locking nut to fiddle with. The size of the slots in the saddles are cut to depth for each string, so no need to adjust saddles to follow the profile of the neck. The body is pretty but not ostentatious. There is a tangible feel of quality about this guitar, which your should expect for the price. I dropped one star for two things that you may or may not care about. 1) The neck width is a typical Fender neck width. That is to say – too skinny. I have large fingers. It's fine for melodic work, but open chords are challenge to finger right without muting adjacent strings. GG has skinny fingers. I do not. When I'm finger picking chords I tend to use my Warmoth partscaster with the superwide neck for that reason. 2) The jack socket is on the base edge of the guitar. This is optimized for playing standing up, where the cord can loop around the strap and kind of wedge in nicely. It is not at all good if you are in the habit of standing your guitar on the floor. It rests on the jack and torques it. This guitar needs a stand, or you need to pull out the jack every time you put it down. It's a nice guitar. Lovely to play. Sounds great. Looks great. Draws appreciation from people who know what it is. Presumably it's perfect for GG. A wider neck and better jack location would make it perfect for me.David In Oregon
The frets ends were rough. It would not stay in tune. I was extremely disappointed in this guitar especially at this price point. This is supposed to be a custom shop guitar. Charvel needs to address their quality control. I took a big chance buying this guitar site unseen. It is going back, to be fair any company can let a dud slide out the door.Bill
This guitar is NOTHING But Amazing! Just got this guitar 2 weeks ago, so what I have to say about it is very much a Honeymoon Phase. First, what an easy guitar to play. The neck is amazing, so smooth, love the slinky SS frets, neck is thin but not too thin. Just fantastic. As for the pickups, I have never played an HSH guitar that was SO usable in all 5 (technically 7) positions. The neck is warm and punchy, the 2 and 4 spots have great strat quack (but of course not completely strat like), position 3 pushes tele type grind and the Bridge is just monstrous (almost too much) but talk about Modern Rock / Metal beauty! There is a switch that will put the neck or bridge pickup in single coil mode, it's very usable, but not exactly single coil. This has become my favorite guitar of the 8 I have. Well done Charvel!COREY

Reviews:
My biggest concerns were getting the R3 Floyd Rose locking nut (1-11/16" or 42.86mm) on a very straight and low action neck. This is not a USA or Japanese guitar, that being said it's quality rivals both. However it is a budget build nonetheless. Two piece neck, with scarf joint, three piece body, it's a bolt on neck (which I prefer). It has a very smooth and fast neck backing that is obviously unfinished but came out really nice at the same time. My only complaint is the frets are not as smooth out of the box as other guitars I've owned. Maybe they will break in after a few days. I just received shipment about 8 hours ago. The bridge pickup takes some dialing in on the amplifier. I'm playing through a 6505+ and I like heavy. To get the full punch you have to turn it up past 3. I went to 4 on my 120 watt with 412 cab. Got some good Iron Maiden tones, some good Megadeth tones, came up slightly short on the Pantera and Cannibal Corpse wasn't even close. But it's the original high output humbucker from the early 70s. The verdict is, definite buy. Top quality build. I'm really pleased and I'm not easy to please. This is the guitar I would recommend to everyone.Robert

Reviews:
I was a little hesitant with this being a Korean made 'High end' guitar but as soon as I picked it up any of that worry went right out the window… Absolutely beautiful guitar, the dimarzio pickups sound great and the neck design that Angel decided on for this model feels just right. If you're a shredder the cut away is perfect, usually I'm hitting my had on the horn but it's no issue here… Really I can't say enough good things about this guitar… I just wish it came with a case for the money, that's really my only complaint. Otherwise I couldn't be happier with it, quickly becoming one of my favorite guitars I've ever played.Tony H

Reviews:
Sounds and plays like a dream, I’ve wanted a Snakeskin guitar forever, love the Graphic, It’s light and sustains forever, at first I kind of freaked because the tremolo wasn’t recessed all my Jackson are, I have the USA Jackson PC1, Dinky DK2s, Jackson RR3, well I’ve owned a bunch, my 87 Charvel doesn’t have a recessed Floyd and the USA Charvel Warren Demartini isn’t recessed, but I never raise the whammy bar anyway. Just for vibrato and Dives. And it stays right in tune.
This guitar reminds me of the original Charvels . Probably not as good as the USA made version. But very very close. Fast neck excellent fret work. Very nicely done paint job. Bridge pickup is aggressive had to back the gain down a bit. Neck quarter pounder is just perfect in this guitar. Floyd works great stays in tune and intonation is spot on. Excellent choice if you are looking for a more traditional Charvel. P.s. nails the brown sound ??Sw
Excellent guitar. The stainless steel frets and the smooth, well-crafted unfinished maple neck are terrific. Feels great. The guitar has a very distinct, articulate tone. The neck pick-up has a big, punchy Strat effect and the bridge pick-up is searing hot. Together, they are very well-balanced for a growling, rock rhythm or lead tone. Needless to say, the guitar is perfect for rock and 80's hair metal! I got the snow white model and it looks amazing. Love the graphics. This one is a keeper.Jim

Overall: The Charvel DK24 2pt CM (Tri-Color Sun Burst) is a lot of bang for you money. The guitar is designed to cover a lot of ground as it offer ten different tone possibilities. The Baked Maple neck is smooth and fast, fairly slim but thicker than a wizard III. The backed maple looks amazing and is very soft to the touch. The finish is stunning and flawless. The wood grain on mine is really nice and comes through the finish making it very pleasant to look at. The bridge saddles looks similar to a graphtech string saver. For what I can tell it works the same way. Love the location of the output jack. It looks very functional and practical. The neck heal carving makes all the high fret accessible. My guitar is light and very resonant. Sounds amazing. The pickups seems responsive to the pick attack. I can only point out one flaw, that was fret sprout through the entire fretboard. This is my first baked maple guitar so I don’t know if it is still weathering. I can fix that so I am not concerned but I know it may to off others.Jm
Just about everything about this guitar is top notch, to the amazing Gotoh bridge to the impeccable sounding Seymour Duncan pickups this thing is amazing and so many tonal opportunities. I own a Jackson Pro Rhoads RR24 with a floyd and this Charvel blows that thing out of the water! pair it was a good amp and this thing will do whatever you need it toIan
I just received my first Charvel ever. First of all Michael Grebe is my musical spirit guide. He is always spot on with what I like and need. Thank you so much for always taking the time to make sure I am happy. You are the best. I have 2 Fenders: one American and one Mexican. I wanted a Super Strat that gives me a bit more tonal option. Boy the Charvel does not disappoint. From the roasted maple neck to the awesome color (which the pictures do not do it justice) to the pick ups to the craftsmanship. It is a very well made guitar on the same level as my American Fender even though it was crafted in Mexico. I couldn't be more happy. I had to do some minor set up which is expected. As others mentioned it plays smooth as butter. Right now it is my favorite guitar. Something strange I noticed though with the humbuckers. They sound a bit more Straty than a fat humbucker which I actually love since I am a Fender kind of guy. This guitar can handle anything from clean to funk to pop to progressive to metal and everything in between. It is a very versatile guitar. Did I mention that I am sooooo happy with it? As I said earlier the pick ups are awesome. Lots of clarity, detail, harmonics etc. You can get 10 different sounds with the 5 way switch and the small switch that switches the humbuckers from parallel to series. Brilliant. I highly recommend this guitar if you are looking for a Super Strat. The price is amazing for what you get. It feels like a $2000 plus guitar.

This guitar is the best of both worlds, it is like a Strat mixed with a Gibson. The humbuckers give it sustain and power, and the strat body and neck make it feel like a Strat, and also give the woody tone associated with a Strat. The stock pickups are very hot, but you can achieve cleaner tones by rolling back the volume knob. Perfect guitar for blues, rock, hard rock, metal, shredding, etc. If I could only have one guitar, this would be it!bluesagent2

Product Details:
Here you have a beautiful mim charvel. this is one of the best charvels i ve gotten my hands on. neck is super comfortable! this guitar comes with a few upgrades:-dimarzio super 2 in the neck (super distortion in the bridge)-floyd rose big block -stainless steel string screws and nuts-dunlop strap locksa couple of things worth noting: the olympic white has yellowed a tad. i bought it this way because i dug the aged look. definitely gives it character. the pickguard is also a tad warped. it s hardly noticeable unless you point it out and not noticeable if you re playing this on stage. the guitar overall plays phenomenally. wish i didn t have to sell it but i need the money.

This is the perfect guitar for a versatility of sound. The amazing high output Seymour's will leave no doubt it is more than ready to perform. I am am a true 80's metal fan and I play a lot of it on this guitar. The playability, quality, and sound is the best I have ever played in the past 35 years. I pair it with my Standard Pro Les Paul and Line 6 V240 for a powerful set at the club. This is probably the best guitar I have ever put in my hands! Only downfall is it's locked tuning so I use the Les Paul for DROP "D".Darin
I bought this guitar to shred some Van Halen with when he passed and while it isn’t an EVH guitar, it’s pretty darn close! I absolutely love this axe, the tone is very bright and warm, the Floyd rose functions smoothly and changing strings isn’t as bad as I thought it would be. Not to mention it had great action and good feeling strings right out of the box. The So-Calus are a staple of what a superstrat should always be, and Charvel seems to nail it on the head every time with these! Definitely recommend if you’re looking for your classic 6-string Floyd ????Nolan

Overall: First guitar that came in bad a dismantled tremolo and a stripped screw in the neck. What’s up with that? I sent it back to zZounds and they shipped out another same day. Excellent customer service by zZounds!! Thank you.New guitar showed up last night. I opened box this morning… Trem is all out of wack and the bridge pickup is touching the strings after I tuned it (standard tuning). Come in Charvel….. you need to step up the quality control this is pathetic… after a setup and adjustments the guitar will be epic but I can’t even play this one either right out of the box. I expect better from you Charvel.Wallace
I got this as utility player for my eclectic covers band – 2 HB pickup voices, a great s/c voice, hard tail (for drop D and back), and I'm not disappointed. It sits well, next to my traditional one of a kind custom builds and is of a good quality throughout. (not quite custom but close!). The neck and frets are brilliantly finished. As with any guitar I did need to get it professionally set up – out of the box the nut needed a bit of TLC (then a set up) but plays superbly now. Be aware the the neck is wider and thinner than a modern C even if the the dims are not too far apart. That said I really like the neck and it's very easy to play. It did take an age (seem to be v popular) to get here but the customer service at PMT was great and I was kept in constant contact about ETAs etc.Simon A.
This is one of the most interesting and enjoyable electrics I've owned in a long time. I'm 66 and I've owned them all sometimes a few times over and I'm not some old dude stuck on tradition. Obviously, since I ordered this guitar. I must admit I resisted active pickups at first because of the legacy of this style, but I sure am glad I got over that. The pickups are just fantastic. Maybe not a totally genuine single coil tele sound, but close enough – and NOISELESS. You can get a lot of really good sounds from the settings available. Going back and forth from humbucker 1 & 2 is like switching between an LP and a PRS bolt on, as in a tad muddy to snappy. The single coil tones have a clarity that got me from the start. The neck is one of the nicest I've ever played and I just love it. The balance and feel are wonderful. Two things I don't like about it are the tuning heads and the 3-way pickup selector's position in relation to the volume control. The tuning heads are awkward to get to and too closely spaced. Tuning adjustments are not comfortable. The pickup selector is placed too near the volume knob so that when you're flipping the switch, you can brush against the (very low resistance) volume pot and suddenly notice you're way too low or too high and needing another immediate adjustment there. These two things are not minor to me, unfortunately, so the jury's still out while the clock ticks on a return. I've got the hard tail and it's nice to maintain the guitar's tuning when bending strings that a vibrato tail won't, so I like that too. It looks like a Tele, but is really totally its own, unique, thing – and I like it a lot!jthore
14. Charvel Pro-Mod San Dimas Bass Pj V Metallic Black
Product Details:
For the seasoned player who defies the status quo and demands more from a high-performance hot rod bass, the charvel pro-mod san dimas bass pj v does it all by combining modern appointments with throwback charvel dna. the sleek alder body shape is a familiar one straight from the original charvel san dimas basses of late 1970s, with the deeper cutaway that gave adventurous bassists effortless upper-register access. the super-thin bolt-on maple charvel speed neck is crafted in the original style, with a gorgeous caramelized treatment, graphite reinforcement and heel-mount truss rod wheel for easy adjustment. the 12"-16" compound radius caramelized maple fingerboard gradually flattens from nut to heel for fast, smooth playing, and has rolled edges, 20 jumbo frets and luminlay side dots. the pro-mod san dimas bass pj v blends the powerhouse voice of dimarzio (just like our original charvel bass guitars) with a charvel five-string pickup an area j dp551 at the bridge offers well-rounded punch while the charvel 5-string split-coil p in the middle delivers classic warmth, kick and clear tone. versatile electronics include three-band active eq, pickup blend control and a master volume control with push/pull selector. the push/pull selector eliminates the risk of losing sound due to a dead battery as a quick pull on the volume knob bypasses the eq's active circuit and regains sound from the bass without the use of battery power. a charvel himass bridge, graph tech tusq xl nut and open-gear tuners combine for stellar tuning stability with improved note punch and sustain. this 5-string, 34"-scale bass is presented in metallic black or platinum pearl finishes with chrome hardware, black pickup covers and licensed fender precision bass headstock shape.

Reviews:
I Test drove this at GC yesterday a good/great instrument is a sum of all its parts. If this guitar was judged by everything but its electronics it would be a 4 to 5 star hands down. Charvel A.K.A Fender should be ashamed of themselves for still not having Fixed the preamp in the Charvel basses still extremely noisy. The pickups also are very lackluster on the PJ V. Part of the noise issues of the PJ 4 is the pickups are very hot and the bobbins are not coated thus introduce noise into the output. The pickups on the PJ V are not hot rather tame actually and if I bought this bass they would have to be replaced. Although some might like the old school tone of the Area J not I. The winner on this bass as the PJ 4 is the neck and body extremely comfortable and light weight. Unfortunately to get this bass right you'd have to replace the Preamp (which I did on my PJ 4 with a Audere Classic) and at minimum replace the neck pickup if not both. So, once you buy parts and the installation charge you're now well into the $1800.00 USD price range and with so many other Great 5 strings basses out there from $750.00 to $1200.00 why waste your time and money on instrument that needs to modified to get it right. When you can get great bass after a Pro-setup that is spot-on for far less money. I was excited about this bass but I'll pass. Also, the black sparkle paint job wasn't nearly as nice as the blue just another strike against this guitar.MaxiFunk
FENDER/CHARVEL the fact that you have not improved the grounding and shielding issues of the components and cavities its sheer neglect to your customers. 11 months later to make no strides to improve the well documented issues with the quality control of these bass guitars has lead to ne never buy another Fender or any brands you own ever again. 2nd time this year I bought a product from you that has to be modified. At this price point there should be no need to modify these basses except for personal preference. No wonder Sire is killing you market share in the bass world.Maxi funk
Very Happy with purchase, very good bass to have in your collection, well built nice modern and vintage tones can be dialed in. My advice change the strings the bass was a little bright with the factory strings. Very comfortable and fast neck easy to play down the neck. Hats off to AMS service very helpful and knowledgeable!Tom
