PRS has been slowly improving this model over time and now, it's as close to perfect as you'll ever see for this price. The "wide thin" neck (10" radius, 1 11/16" at the nut) is very comfortable, the fretwork is immaculate (nothing sharp or sprouted), and although it's a gloss back, it's slick and fast (not sticky the way gloss can sometimes be). The 85/15 pickups are great: they can growl in humbucker mode or quack and sparkle in coil split mode. The coil split is a great feature and you'll actually use it, as it makes a big difference. The tone knob is responsive. The body is super light and very compact, and the ergonomics are great–both larger guys (I'm 6'2") and smaller ones seem to think it fits. And the trem system is much more comfortable and tuning-stable than any Fender six-screw system I've ever played: no sharp edges and it really does float and stay in tune (pop in arm, too). The only reasons NOT to buy this guitar are: you are a shredder who needs 24 frets or a compound-radius neck; you want 25.5" scale instead of the 25" that this has (the difference is noticeable only on the upper frets); you like a heavy guitar (this is light, at 7 pounds even), or you don't like PRS appearance. This is a fancy/pretty guitar, and it's hard to imagine giving it a relic look like an old strat. But really, looking like a strat is the only thing it can't do. It's now one of my two favorite guitars (the other is a self-built strat costing twice as much) and it so thoroughly occupied the niche that my Les Paul had, that I just sold the Les Paul. Sacrilege, I suppose, but the Les Paul felt like a thick rock (it was almost two pounds heavier) compared to this, and the tone was much less versatile than the PRS. Sad but true.Patrick
This semi-hollow PRS guitar is no different from others I've played. The quality is there in every category, right down the line. If I had to pick only one outstanding feature, it would be the in-house made 85/15 pickups. They produce the absolute best articulation of all frequencies. Every note can be heard evenly whether played clean or with distortion. Also, the natural sustain has few equals due to the materials and great construction standards of PRS.Indiana Bob
I'll admit, I don't play out much and haven't played this guitar out yet, but, the tones I get through my small boutique from these pick ups blow me away. It's easy to get great sounds from this one. I like where the volume and tone controls are located, I won't be hitting them while playing hard. As mentioned, the three way switch rattled, it seemed the hole that the hinge pin on the lever itself was too large. The switch functioned perfectly, but I replaced it myself. The fit and finish is otherwise outstanding! Fret work is great, Trem works flawlessly. The wide/fat neck shape matches my Singlecut Trem core model in shape and feel. It is nice that it came with a quality gig bag, many guitars at this price point do not. If you are looking to get started with PRS quality, this is a great place to start. This guitar covers it all. Simple, good pickups, great tones. Everywhere I play it musicians come up and as WHAT is that guitar? It sounds great. (They don't say my playing sounds great) Only mods I have done is a Tusk black nut and blocked the tremolo. That seemed to solve any tuning issues. I thought the all gold might be too much but soon got over that. Fit and finish is PRS fantastic.Wade
Um es kurz zu machen: Tolle Gitarre. Ich besitze bereits die Santana SE Double Cut, welche eine gute Gitarre ist. Allerdings bin ich mit deren Klang nie so hundertprozentig warm geworden wegen der Santana-„S“ Pickups. Sie sind, nun ja, etwas eigenwillig, um es mal so zu sagen. Gerade der Halstonabnehmer klingt mir zu dünn. Verzerrt gefallen sie mir durchaus, aber clean hat mich die DC nie begeistert. Nachdem nun die Single Cut mit ihren TCI S-Pickups hier zu einem günstigen Kurs zu haben war, habe ich sie mir mal kommen lassen und war vom Fleck weg begeistert. Freilich ist Klang immer Geschmackssache und sie hat ihren eigenen PRS-Sound, wenn man das so sagen kann. Und den mag man oder nicht. Aber mich hat sie überzeugt. Die Gitarre fühlt sich wertig an, spielt sich leicht und die Tonabnehmer holen aus der Gitarre definitiv was raus. Clean gefällt sie mir ihrem lockeren, klaren Sound. Verzerrt schmatz und singt es, wie man es erwartet. Wenn man dann noch das Tone-Poti bemüht, kommt man dem Meister aus Mexiko schon nahe. Geht mehr in die Santana-Richtung als die Double Cut, finde ich. Hervorzuheben ist auch das Volume-Poti, das wirklich sehr präzise regelt. Was Bryan Ewald im Produktvideo auf Youtube zeigt, kann ich bestätigen. Die Verarbeitung ist eigentlich sehr gut, lediglich der Toggle-Switch läuft etwas hakelig und könnte sich bald verabschieden, aber bei Gitarren aus Fernost hat man ja gerne mal dieses Problem. Der Gigbag war außen voller Styropor-Krümel, keine Ahnung was die da gemacht haben. Auch auf dem Korpus fanden sich schwarze gummiähnliche Krümel, die sich aber leicht abwischen ließen. Das habe ich so auch noch nie gesehen. Sonst gibt es wirklich nichts zu meckern. Besonders gefallen mir Griffbrett und Bünde. Das Griffbrett ist schön glatt und nicht trocken und die Bünde wurden wirklich spiegelglatt poliert, nichts schab und Bendings gehen wie durch Butter. Auch wurden die Bundstäbchen perfekt abgerichtet, man hat nicht das Gefühl eine Raspel in der Hand zu haben. Der Hals ist allerdings eher kräftig, liegt aber gut in der Hand. Eine Gibson SG mit Slim Taper Neck ist sie aber definitiv nicht. Also wer eine Gitarre will um auf Santana zu machen, ist mit der hier gut beraten. Aber auch alle anderen, die einfach eine PRS SE für Blues und Rock suchen, dürfen – allein wegen der Tonabnehmer – ruhig mal einen Blick riskieren – wenn man Gold mag 🙂 Wenn man den Preis bedenkt, bekommt man eine überdurchschnittlich gut verarbeitete und gefällig klingende Gitarre.

There are some interesting duets here, but not all of the creativity works out well. While this is certainly a rockin' CD, some of the songs are a bit disappointing. The epic guitar solos, while fantastic, have been recorded high and are louder than the accompaniment at all times. Although this strange mix does feature Santana aptly, his guitar can be ear-splitting at times. A better balance with the guest singers would have helped. However, while some of the versions are just beefed-up shredders, Santana does add some interesting interpretation periodically. With some Latino beats and bluesy additions, he makes his mark. However, some songs stay true while others are a bit overwrought. Riders on the Storm and Smoke on the Water take the most getting used to.pasturederelict

This is a wonderful guitar by any standard, it's sound is very full and syrupy. It has been very well built. I like it for clean stuff in addition to it's obvious Rock qualifications. I don't play metal music but I could see that it could be used for the heaviest stuff. This guitar is truly a split personality so the versatility factor is awesome. I've always loved Duncan pups and these are the best I've ever heard. Finish on the guitar is spectacular the hardware is gold and a bit gaudy; But that's what Rock is all about. This is a fantastic CD. It starts from the begining in 1969 and goes through 1989. The Compilation of music is fantastic. His Kindred music is awesome. The blend of cultures that he has used is truly a spiritual reflection of himself. If ou are a fan this is the CD to acquire.estimbo1962

The CD arrived quickly and well packaged – no problems with playing it. The music I am still considering being a very long time Santana fan. Billed as most of the old band back together again and music in the old style – the latter I would disagree with, but closer to the early days than many previous CDs. For me the CD improves music-wise about half-way through and not so keen on first half. I guess I will continue to listen to the earlier CDs as more my taste.jtri6196
This is not a blockbuster record that will catapult the band back into international acclaim. Its a few long time friends and musicians getting together again and proving that the past can be put aside and something new can be created. There is some excellent music here,…a few good songs and a couple of filler tracks. All in all a solid B effort. For Santana freaks like myself i was happy to see Carlos, Michael Shrieve, Gregg Rolie and Neal Schon together again. It reaffirms my faith that any obstacle can be overcome w/ respect for one another and, a belief that the past can be put aside and the Santana legacy continues on w/ new music from this band.zendrummer607
Great to hear the original lineup of Santana back together, I had to play this cd quite a few times to before I started to enjoy it .Apart for some very lame lyrics the musicianship wins out with Carlos,Neil,Greg and the drumming of Michael who basically drifted apart starting from Santana 3 and finally splitting that lineup for Caravanserai . I like the pieces by Carlos and Jorge Santana the most. Cousin Carlos seems a bit heavy for this particular CD (more Joe Satriani sounding then melodic). This is really not for everyone, it's very nice electric guitar work if you are into that. If you're looking for lyrics and more dance tunes, this isn't the right CD. Although Carlos Santana and 'guests' play drums on this CD I find it a little 'loop' sounding at times, but I can tell it is a real drummer. For the Relaxing, Melodic, Santana Connoisseur, you'll love it.scottb-630
