The first step in putting this unit together is to install the 1/4" connectors. right out of the gate, the holes milled for the 1/4" connectors are to close to the top of the box, and the connectors are not able to install and sit flush against the side of the box. the only fix is to oval out the holes, or maybe drill new holes. the only reason I gave 2 stars is that it still might sound good, and it's cheap. I'll revisit the review after i get it together.dickieziggen
I purchased this with the intention of modifying the original circuit. I used a 2n3904 and a nte123ap in a cascaded darlington configuration and I used a germanium diode with red led instead of the provided pair of silicon diodes. It functions as a dirty boost but when pushed, it has a raspy aggressive distortion with asymmetrical clipping that closely resembles early Led Zeppelin tones.Josh
Super easy to build and sounds great! It likes single coils and humbuckers! Throw this in front of an already driven amp and drive it some more…or put in front of a clean amp and get a nice rich overdrive. This pedal is on my pedal board now! Can't beat the price for a great pedal and a fun experience!Clint

This is a great pedal and a great kit. Fantastic instructions. Probably not the best choice if it's your first kit as there is some tight soldering required, but for anyone who's done point-to-point kits or assembly before it should be quite doable. The range of tones this pedal puts out is wonderful and it's really fun to experiment with different tubes.John
This is the first time I've built a guitar pedal that did not have a PCB. It made things a tad more challenging (making sure you don't ground out the components, etc.). That said, I loved building this pedal. It was really tons of fun. Took it to band practice. Me and my brother really put it through the ringer testing it and all the tubes. He loved it so much he commissioned me to build one for him. So, I bought another one. Hopefully will be here for the weekend. I cannot wait. TL;DR – This pedal was fun to build and sounds fantastic. DO IT!jajoyner
3. Ce Distribution The Trill Tremolo, Tremolo Tone Pedal Kit
Product Details:
The mod electronics trill tremolo pedal offers classic tremolo tones in an easy-to-build kit. the trill's speed knob provides a wide range from a very slow to rapid-fire effect. the depth knob varies the ratio between effected and dry signal. using modern, low-noise transistors makes operation of the trill quiet with no signal drop when engaged. the trill uses true-bypass footswitching so it is out of the signal path when not engaged. all you need to provide is solder and tools! uses 9 volt battery which is not included.

This was my first guitar related/non-PC board kit. All the parts were there, and the directions were very clear. It took me about 4 hours over two sessions, and it worked the first time I plugged it in. The switching is nice and quiet, the tremolo covers a wide range, and I had fun building it. Highly recommended.Pinetree

4. Korg Nu:tekt Od-S Nutube Overdrive Pedal Kit
Product Details:
Authentic tube sound nutube is a new and revolutionary fully analog triode vacuum tube developed by korg inc. and noritake itron corporation. the same as a conventional vacuum tube, nutube is constructed with an anode, grid and filament, and operates as a complete triode tube, effectively generates the same performance response and rich harmonic characteristics of conventional vacuum tubes in a more compact, stable and energy-efficient way. plenty of sonic possibilities the od-s has 2 gain knobs. in addition to adjusting the input level to the vacuum tube (gain), the anode load of the vacuum tube amplification circuit can be changed using the tube gain. this allows you to accurately adjust the sound from the vacuum tube to your liking. the od-s also incorporates a switch that lets you choose between 2 different overdrive types (with different low – high ranges) along with true bypass; making it an ideal pedal for live performances. for advanced users who want to customize their tone further, the modification-friendly layout allows you to change out discrete components to create your own unique pedal to match your desired tone and performance. the possibilities are endless. circuit diagrams are readily available in the download section.

The one I got was faulty, and had bad solder joints all over it. Really pricey for an overdrive.Michael S.
I built the kit up in 20 minutes. It was pretty easy and I had some parts left over but they weren't in the instructions and it functions fine! Sounds great, really meaty sounding like a British valve amp. There is a hiss as with other nu-tube devices, but it's no worse than most OD pedals and can be reduced by rolling off the treble or using a noise filter after it.Gareth W.

6. Mod Kits K-999 Effects Pedal Kit – Mod Kits, The Saturator
Product Details:
The mod electronics saturator is an overdrive pedal kit that can cover a wide range of gain effects, transitioning smoothly from a massive clean boost to a warm and saturated distortion with the turn of a knob. the saturation is controlled with the soak knob, which dials in the amount of symmetrical soft-clipping applied to the guitar signal. when fully counterclockwise, the signal is unaffected and clean. rotating the knob clockwise will incrementally increase the soft-clipping, morphing from a clean signal through subtle-to-heavy saturated overdrive sounds and straight into distortion territory. the level knob sets the overall volume of the clean or saturated output. unity gain is at roughly 8 o'clock. with the soak set to clean, rotating the level knob clockwise will increase the level to upwards of 30 db. lead sound sample blues sound sample heavy sound sample

Reviews:
This is my third Mod Kit build, and the second overdrive (I posted reviews on Thunderdrive, and my subsequent mods to make it a Thunderdrive Limited). The Saturator was actually an easier build, at least in part because of the larger chassis/casing, which gave more room to work inside. This made for a nice afternoon project, instructions were clear and easy to follow. Finished pedal worked first time I plugged it in, and sounds great! Smoother drive sound than the Thunderdrive, nice and thick without being gritty. This was the first build I did with ModKits brand graphics on the box, I kinda liked the idea of being able to do custom paint jobs and graphics, visually it doesn't come across as "DIY". Totally worthwhile project for the electronics project experience, and a very usable pedal.Larry

10. Synthrotek Cosmic Echo Guitar Pedal Pcb
Product Details:
Attention this is the pcb only. you will need to source your own components to build this pedal. the cosmic echo is an analogsounding lofi delay that will work with just about anything you plug into it. the dark, lush, moody tones of the everpopular pt2399 ic provide an outofthisworld experience. our take on this classic pedal pushes the chip's limits so you can explore all the gritty elements drifting at the edge of long delay rates. features build a cosmic echo or cosmic echo 2 with the same board. dark, rich sounds with the analog vibe of a tape echo. contains pt2399 ic, a bucket brigade style emulation. this ic has 16bit sampling for 30300 milliseconds. after that, the sample rate goes down in relation to the delay length. this results in artifacts and noise being introduced into the audio for weird, cosmic, psychedelic sounds. use it like a typical echo or delay length 30ms1,250ms. 3 knobs feedback, mix and rate. the mix is a wet only control that attenuates the amount of delayed signal in the signal chain. the feedback controls the number of repeats in an organicsounding way. warp button. momentary pushbutton switch that gives a bright, "small" speaker tone. zone button. momentary pushbutton switch that introduces feedback into the circuit momentarily. great for adding rhythmic feedback and other strange sounds. the zone amount can be adjusted by an internal trim pot. pedal has a slight volume drop. great for shoegaze, surf rock, ambient and experimental sounds. takes a 9v battery or 9v center negative 2.12.5mm barrel power adapter not included.

fun to build and sounds greatJay
This was the first pedal I have ever built. I have had extensive experience with guitar electronics as well as building my own pickups. Suffice to say I am pretty handy with a soldering iron. My order arrived 3 days after placing the order……EXCELLENT! This was so much fun and so easy, my only complaint would be I didn't do this sooner. The instructions are idiot proof. If you check off your parts list and mark off each step as you progess you will have no problems whatsoever building this pedal. From opening the package to plugging in my Gretsch, I spent 45 minutes on this project! If you are the least bit hesitant about building your own pedal I highly suggest you buy this kit. It will give you the confidence to try more difficult projects in the future. Here is the fun part…..HOW DOES IT SOUND? This effect has been used by countless famous musicians as a "secret weapon" in their tone. From Frank Zappa, Jimmy Page, Billy Gibbons and Brian May, the "fixed Wah" filter effect was an essential part of their signature sound. Some people will critique this pedal poorly because it does not use an inductor….forget the inductor! The Tea Philter nails this tone in spades! I used my Flextone XL amp to really put this pedal through its paces, dialing in ideal rigs for each of the artists listed above. With a sweep of the knob I was able to faithfully replicate each of their respective tones. Plugged into my Vintage Bandmaster Tweed, this pedal produced even order harmonics with the amp in overdrive that let notes sustain forever (ala David Gilmore). I was a bit worried about volume drop with this pedal but was pleasantly surprised that this wasnt an issue. It was 100% noise free and it is built like a tank. I can see all types of players using this effect. From classic rock, blues and even hard rock and metal players pushing their distortion into even order harmonics, I think this pedal will find a place on many folks pedal board. I have been a semi-professional musician for 18 years. I have owned or still own just about every guitar and amp combination you could imagine. I have a stable of vintage and boutique amps as well as pro level Gretsch guitars, Vintage Les Paul Standard and custom built Telecasters. I have been using this effect for many years with my wah but am very Happy I can reproduce the same tone with a flip of the switch. Thank you MOD Kits!! I will be buying another kit very soon!
Very fun and easy build!Jeremy
13. Kit – The Verb Deluxe, Digital Reverb Pedal Kit
Product Details:
The mod electronics verb deluxe kit is built around the belton digi-log mini module (p-rbtdr-2h-x) for a great digital reverb sound. the belton digi-log module was built as a replacement for traditional spring reverberation units. features include both dwell and mix controls, allowing the dry signal to be blended with the processed signal – from just a hint of reverb to deep, cavernous echoes. the dwell control adds an extra flexibility, providing a full palette of sweet reverb sound. warning: the verb deluxe does not hold back on reverberation potential. at maximum dwell and mix settings you may be overtaken by a virtual tidal wave of sonic reflections. the effect pedal operates on a 9v battery. for a longer lasting option, a 9-volt adapter can be purchased separately. the godlyke 9-volt adapter (m-pas-s) may be purchased separately to power your new pedal.

Reviews:
I built this kit a year ago and had plenty of time to test and modify this kit and i'll say that this is a suprisingly decent kit. At first I found the reverb to be to soft and muffled and decided to remove the .047μf cap on the output driver and proceeded to replace the dwell control with a tone control. This gave me reverb that had a "crisp, crunchy tone" that creates a "splashing" sound. the perfect sound for Surf Rock! The only two problems however was that the power supply had hum issues (which was fixed by using a high quality solid state power source). and when the reverb was turned too high it would go into feedback (a result of removing the capacitor on the output).Alex
This was my first time building a box, but not my last. All parts were there and the directions were awesome. I did put one resistor in the wrong terminal but there are so many good pics that I was able to find it and move it. Then it worked better than the sound clips sound.real quality!ozzy
14. Boss Ps-6 Multi Effect Pedal
Product Details:
Meet the boss ps-6 harmonist effects pedal, with four intelligent pitch-shift effects and three-voice harmony in one convenient unit. among the effect modes are harmony, pitch shifter, and detune, plus the all-new super bend for authentic pedal-bending effects and wild 3- and 4-octave pitch sweeps. with the ps-6 harmonist, you can even control pitch with an optional expression pedal. .
Reviews:
Actually if you play with the balance knob and harmony knob that control how much high octaves and low octaves and keys of various harmonies with the blend in guitar you can get this thing to sound kinds like Brain May's 3 part harmonies. You have to fiddle with it for days by your self and write down your settings….there a lot of bad ones and tracking can get loss if you add to much octaves or balance…play with it and experiment. I got at least 4 great harmonies. Example – I have it in F mode for instance and play in the C position on guitar and can get this to play a convincing double lead on one guitar in Bad company's "Cant get enough of your love" …it will work with things like "the boys are back in town"…etc. Work with it and take your time .Remember the trick is in the first knob and then find the best other settings that holds the harmonies in the best keys you choose. Not all of them will work great but like I said you can get steady 3 note and even two note harmonies to sound convincing enough to get by easy. Listen to alotta Queen for a starting point and try to match some of those harmonies and experiment in the different keys and minor and major positions …and then write down the settings that sound good to you. Being patience is the trick here. It took me a couple of weeks to get nice things out of it. But it was worth it. P.S. if you haven't got the patience to give this pedal…then it's not gonna work for you.perfect_christian.123
I decided to go with this lens after owning my previous Nikon f2.8 telephoto zoom lens basically because it is way lighter and more portable and I found myself usually struggling to take my f2.8 zoom with me just because it was huge and super heavy. Moreover I also found out that I was only rarely actually using the lens at f2.8 but mostly at f5.6 to f11 and sometimes at f4, so no big reason to carry the extra weight of a f2.8 one. The f4 aperture can still blur enough the backgrounds. Besides when I want fast apertures I always prefer my faster primes. And finally IS adds a very nice bonus to that for when you need to shoot at lower light or just be sure that you won't end up with a shaky image even by using medium shutter speeds like 1/250 for instance that can stiil be shaky especially at the longer end of the lens. The Canon EF 70-200mm f4L IS USM is a great option at an affordable price. I think it is a good upgrade to the original non IS version and a good alternative to the bigger f2.8 ones. I find the lens super sharp across the image at every aperture, super fast focusing and the IS is performing quite well. Being an L lens also means it is very well made and with weather sealing. I highly recommend this lens to anyone who doesn't really need f2.8 for action shoots and anyone that wants to carry this lens around without having second thoughts about it. By getting this lens you are not sacrificing any of the optical performance compared to the f2.8 lenses. You get the same lens only smaller and way lighter. It also works amazingly well with both Canon DSLRs and mirrorless cameras.georgeworst
Wow!!! Just Wow!!! I have had this for a few weeks now and i can't stop playing with it. There is a lot packed into this little effect and you really need to spend some time getting to learn all the little nuances of the pedal. I'm still finding new things with it. Individual effects can change drastically depending on the guitar used and the pickup/volume/tone control settings so you really need to experiment. It's very versatile. For an interesting use try running each output through it's own set of effects and amp. It truly sounds like two individual guitarists rather than one person playing through a single pedal. Having an Expression pedal input adds a lot to this already great pedal as well. Playing at moderately fast to fast speeds creates some tracking/latency problems. I found a few other minor annoyances but there is not enough space here to list them in detail. All in all this is a nice little addition to any pedal board and I would recommend it.Jim9k
