I hardly ever write reviews, but after changing out my strings, I no longer go out of tune! I have to say this, I have never had new strings go on and not “adjusted” a million times after breaking them in. I tuned these twice! I bashed on my guitar, and played hard to try and knock them out, and they stayed perfectly in tune. Made a believer out of me and I just ordered another set. So although this is asking about strings, (which are great strings,) I bought them for my Epiphone LP. As a lifelong Fender guy, I never thought I’d tangle with the dark side, but a lot of my favorite rock guitarists used some iteration of an HH, and even though Fender makes them, the LP is the king in ny mind. I love the guitar, and CME did a great job of quality checking it. There are some craftsmanship issues I have, and I still prefer my Player Strat, but it is nice. (I will probably change at least the neck pickup though.)

I took a lot of years off and I had stock 10s on my G&Ls that was killing my hands so I played those for a while and endured my shortcomings as my hands were in training to regain the strength of my youth. Then made the switch to Ernie Ball Hybrid 0946s and that felt better but still felt like a battle when playing faster licks and solos. A friend suggested that I try the NYXL0942. Wow! I felt like I was in a time warp and back to my old self from years ago. These NYXLs have initially withstood my bending and time will tell to see if they are as tough as advertised. Also they feel like I am playing nylon strings so they are a lot more comfortable. Could be the lighter gauge but I think the string design also has something to do with that. The only thing I notice is that they do not ring out as loudly as my previous strings but it does not matter when you plug in. Really glad about these strings and will probably be putting these on all my guitars.MediumSexy
I love the sound of NYXL. They provide me with a pearl like sound that I can use for jazz as well as for heavier sounding music. The strings have qualities that last for a very long time. I usually change my strings every week. I left them for a month on my guitar just to see how they would sound. They sound fantastic… they would lose some freshness after about two weeks but they still hold a great deal of quality after two months playing. They also stay in tune after you pull your strings. These strings are a great sounding string with a full tone. I typically used an 11 string guage and went down to a 10 on my current guitar setup. When I tried the 9s I thought I would lose some of the warmth and fullness, but they sound fairly consistent with with heavier guage strings and are easier to play and bend. Very light tension and very responsive. Now I can barre with my index finger with little of effort. Strings 4, 5, 6 sound great. Strings 1, 2, 3 sound just OK, and they produce slight rustling sound when my fingers move between the frets. They also make rustling sound when I pick them using my bare fingers (no nails). I am not a classical guitarist, I am an acoustic/electric guitarist who has modified what I do to fit a classical format. When it comes to strings, I have always opted for the biggies, usually D'Addario extra hard tension (and the titanium treble set is my go-to). I believed in the SRV adage: Bigger strings give bigger tone. I picked up a set of these Augustines the last time they were on sale at MF. I confess I got 'em because they had Segovia on the package and were on sale. My heart sank when the strings arrived, they are the black label set and are marked "extra light tension." I teach in a public school and thought I'd put these strings on and beat them to death in a matter of days. That was over a month ago, and my mid 70s Yamaha (solid cedar/rosewood) has never sounded better. I don't know what it is about these strings (components, care of manufacture), but they seem to really lay flat on the board, and I mean that in a good way. I have already admitted that my classical technique really blows, but when I try to bear down on the lower strings, the heavier wound strings almost seem to "roll" under my stupid sausage fingers. These strings actually do what they are advertised to do. These 10-48's have the tension and characteristics of approx 11-52's. If your guitar is set up for standard or E flat with normal 10's, then you can expect to be able to tune down to D standard or even C# without making many adjustments. My 24 3/4 scale guitar is tuned to C# standard with these strings now and feel very nice, not all floppy and dull. I have read some other reviews that seem to exaggerate a little saying C standard and even drop A works with these, don't believe that, maybe with the heavier gauges in this line that could be done. The tone is good also, not muffled and dull like some strings get when tuning a full step down or more. Very cool. I have used the 10-46 Zakk W from this brand on a Custom 24 tuned to D standard and the bridge floated perfectly, I did not have to adjust the tremolo at all. So if you want to tune down a step or so without filing your nut, these are for you.Riffrawker
well, i recently switched out the strings on my les paul to the new dulop heavy core "heavy" strings (10, 13, 17, 28, 38, 48) – and i couldn't be happier. i have tried all kinds of different string configurations and i think i've finally found my perfect match. i've had everything on my LP from cleartone, d'addario, elixer, ghs, and i even had the zakk wylde icon customs from dunlop. the zw dunlop strings were the closest i could compare these too in terms of feel and quality, but i would up taking them off because i wasn't using my guitar in dropped tunings enough and i didn't need such heavy strings on the E, A, D. in terms of tone, these are amazing, imo. the d'addario's were way too bright – even on the low strings. but these dunlops give you a nice thick, warm tone, and maintain the right amount of brightness without being too twangy. the feel of the strings is fantastic as well. i really like the nickel over any of the other strings, especially ones that have a coating that breaks down. after i restrang the guitar and it barely took any stretching to get the strings 100% set – no going sharp or flat. they're right on point no matter how much i bend or move them. i did have to make a slight adjustment to the intination because of the small increase in gauge on the E, A, D strings, but it was very minor, and again, well worth it. also, there was no need to adjust the truss rod because the increase in gauge wasn't enough to bow the neck, like when i tried the zw icons. if you're looking for something new to try that will give you great performance and durability i highly recommend these.ZERO

I Love Rhythm and blues, jazz and swing. But I also like folk music and great C&W riff lines. To be honest, I have only been using these strings for about three weeks but I like them so much that I plan to use them on most of my instruments. So far, In my opinion, these strings are clean and crisp and they have a very satisfying tone even at higher volumes; and, at the present time, they appear to be pretty flex-able and easy on the fingers. I have a used 2005 hollowbody Cort Yorktown. I tried D'Addario ECG23 (10-48 "chromes" flatwounds). They were nice, but for this guitar, they were too bright, at least on the treble strings. I put on these DR flatwounds (11-48) and immediately heard the difference. The tone was mellower, including (especially!) on the treble strings. Don't ask me why. After all, the high E is just .001 inch heavier, but the consistent softened jazz sound was there, from low end to high end. Guitars differ in variables (woods, pickups, etc), so all I can say is that for my guitar (laminate maple back and sides, laminate spruce top and original humbuckers), DR 11-48 flatwounds did the trick. Will stick with these from now on. (By the way, both brands have a wound 3rd string, but DR's is 22 instead of 20. Go figure!) At one point, I was even thinking of replacing the neck pickup. The fourth string is always the first to go, so I was glad to find this inexpensive pack of five – I have a pile of new but useless 6-sets minus their fourth! However, I have found that this string lacks durability – I have to replace it after a couple of weeks, as opposed to a normal two months or so, because the copper wrap is too soft and soon comes apart. These strings are probably the closest thing to vintage strings available if you are into that old school 50s jazz sound. They are a bit stout for my hands even when set low, but no question they have great tone. Big and deep with a nice brightness to them. Check out some old records to hear that sound. Many jazzers like Mundell Lowe, Barry Galbraith and George Barnes were not playing the dark and rolled off sort of sound we associate with jazz now. These strings remind me of those aforementioned sounds the most. They aren't perfectly polished smooth but I think that is part of their sound.Aaron
These flat wound strings are pretty light as far as flats go but I really like them. I put them on one of my Fender Jaguars and I love the tone. I will say you should probably stretch these a good bit before regularly playing them but either way they're great and are very good quality as expected with Pyramid strings. For my jag, it really mellowed that super sharp brightness just enough to where I like it. I mostly play the Jag on the neck pickup anyways.Antonio
Long lasting strings with no fret slide noise on the guitar neck due to being flat wound. Excellent value. I have used these flat wound Pyramid Gold 12 string sets for more than 10 years. i bought a set of these because i loved their phosphor bronze strings and wanted to see if the mixing of metal types for different strings had any merit to it or was just a gimmick and since they were a little cheaper than the phosphor bronze. Well i liked them better than the all phosphor bronze strings, so i bought a set of these in the custom light gauge to try as well. Right now it's a toss up for me whether these are the best for me or the Santa Cruz parabolic tension strings both are pretty great.JImK

I used to have to buy the Skinny Top Heavy Bottom and Power Slinky set in order to get the low and high strings that I preferred but ever since Ernie Ball came out with this set I don't have to. It's my go to set of strings for standard because I like tight strings that I can chug or shred on. Plus they last forever. Get these!Rollin
The biggest selling point for Super Slinky strings is their magnificent tone. There really aren't any strings that sound better than these for hard rock. But as others have noted, they are sometimes prone to premature breakage of the unwound strings at the ball end. It you use a locking tremolo like a Floyd Rose, then this isn't an issue, as you'll be cutting off the ball ends anyway. But for everyone else, he's a trick that I (and many other players) have been using for Super Slinky's ever since the 80's. Just grab your soldering iron and solder the string down where it's twisted around the ball. Just be sure that the twisted part is nicely coated with solder and you shouldn't have any more problems with early breakage. Don't worry, it won't mess up their tone of anything like that… not if you do it right. Try it and see!Rasterburn
These are really nice! They deliver very warm and round tones when playing clean; however, when using overdrive or distortion, the tone becomes pretty monstrous! Because of their thickness, understand they're not made for easy bends and jazzy licks. Additionally, if your guitar is set-up for 9's, or even 10's, you'll need to make slight adjustments in your action, especially if you're using a trem.Shane S.
