GREAT strings. Even though they're made for slap and funk, I've gotten great use out of them for metal. They have a biting, almost clangy sound when I use a pick, and tapping is very loud and responsive, which is fantastic.Although I'm not the best at slap, I've given it a good try with these strings and they seem to have great rebound for slaps and pops are pretty easy with them.thatguy-Q2iEf
I was inspired to get DR strings after reading that they were voted number one strings in Bass Player Magazine and decided to get Bootsy's because he's a bad a$$. These are so much better than any other brand of string. The strings are real good for slap and just sound so amazing. I can't really describe how good they sound. I'm going to also try out some LO RIDERS and maybe HIGH BEAMS. GET THESE STRINGS.UnKnOwNRULES

Reviews:
Folks, let me start out by saying that I am a former professional drummer and have limited experience on the bass. However, I spent years locking tight with bass players to creat a solid foundation for the band and I know what sounds right. This bass guitar is a beauty. I was originally going to buy a standard jazz bass MIM. But I saw this and had to check it out. One of things that sold me on this bass was that it came with Geddy's high mass bridge. For all intent and purposes it is a Leo Qwan bridge which Geddy has on his #1. It really makes a difference in the sustain, it just keeps going and going. Also, the bridge just looks good… big and meaty. The neck plays like butter and the black binding and blocks on the fretboard just sets this bass apart appearance wise. The pups are solid, I might change those out one day…but honestly they sound great. This is a really well built bass and I completely reccomend you buy this bass. Also, thanks to Alan at GC Tampa for his patience with me while I was looking and trying out different basses. Great customer service.Charles I
I'd been wanting a Fender Jazz bass since I was a kid. Started off playing on a Squier P-Bass Special and I always liked the Jazz neck. Better than I expected. The tone is bright and cuts nicely. The neck is fast and the body is comfortable and not too heavy. Set up was also pretty good coming out of the box. Definitely going to be buying another Fender through AMS next year or so. Definitely met and exceeded my expectations. I haven't put it down since getting it. Cant wait to leave work and jam on it. Awesome.Sapo
As a touring and studio studio musician I am thrilled to have a bass at this caliber. The sunburst design is breathtaking. The action feels and sounds great right out of the box. This is the first time I have ever had a bridge that looks and feels the way this one does. It really ties the aesthetic together! When you have all of the tone knobs up you get a really hot and bright bass sound that cuts through records. This can easily be adjusted on the knobs or in post cutting off everything above 4K. The neck is slimmer than most bassses I have played, which makes it super easy to glide up and down this bass. The soft case it comes with isn't too special and I will be upgrading to a hard case since I take it to the studio with me (will eventually gig on it). I've had it for a few months now and it can be heard on countless records coming out of the SF Bay Area. It meets and over exceeds all expectations I had set for it. It also sounds great using the old sponge trick to get the motown down you traditionally hear on a P Bass. Anyone looking to get a Fender Jazz, I would highly recommend the Getty Lee model.Ryan

Reviews:
Almost 40 years of playing experience and this bass is by far the best value that I've experienced. I've had my share of Precisions, Jazz basses, etc. over the years up to the $1500 range. When the pandemic kicked in I had sold most of my equipment but decided I had to have one bass. The neck is solid and similar to a P-bass thickness which I prefer and I don't need a 24-fret, 2 octave one anymore based on playing blues, jam, reggae, and rock. The tonal landscape is phenomenal rolling off the treble or bass dependent upon what I'm playing. Bright highs and deep lows are easily accomplished. I've never written a review before, but this was worthy of the time. Enjoy!Steve
Sound: when you own a sterling bass you do know, what your getting in quality . this bass is heavier then my sterling sub music man. same bass just diff color .the pick up of course is still amazing ,from my sub to this bass today. Ease of Use: i pulled out the box, was not in tune from shipping of course. used my d,addario head stock tuner on it, was only off a little from shipping. easy to retune and play out of the box. Quality: i love these bass., i have small hands. witha full scale to the get the best of the tone possible, long scale is the only way for me. small hand will use the neck as a whole. Value: would buy this for any one starting. would also buy another my self lol i have two lol Manufacturer Support: never had an issue Overall: awesome for the money, get great workmenship right out of the box, a small tune . after shipping of course. love the balance and small necks for my small hands. does not take away sustain. bass talks if you listen. so this is the second one i owned and would own another.Mickey
I'm a long time guitarist with some really fine instruments who decided to pick up a "value" bass just to learn for fun. Knowing what to look for in guitars, I translated that over to basses and went to GC to try some out, see what appealed to me, and how far I could stretch the dollars I was willing to spend on an instrument to start out and, maybe, stick with. I found this Sterling by Music Man Ray4 in mint green that filled the bill on all fronts. As usual, the guys at GC let me try several instruments and test to my hearts content. I do all my own guitar set-ups and would never buy a guitar sight unseen, being worried about how much adjustment might be needed. The Ray4 wasn't too bad out of the box (quite literally because I didn't like the display instrument and they had another in stock for me to try). Once home, I did adjust neck relief, string height, intonation, and pickup to a point that I liked best. The pickup required the most adjustment actually because it had gotten stuck in an odd and very high position, perhaps from being jostled in shipping. There is some fret sprout on the higher frets, but nothing that would bother my hand. Bottom line: Everything could easily be adjusted to where I really like it and has been stable now over several days. It's comfortable to play and is, in my opinion, a real "looker." The satin finished neck is great and, although I usually don't go for maple fret boards, I do like this one. I'm very pleased with my purchase decision and would buy it again. Now onto attack that fret sprout . . .AARP Rocker

Reviews:
I'm an experienced guitar player and builder, but a dabbler in bass. My current instrument is a 6 string Ibanez with active pickups and 3 band EQ, but I wanted something simpler with a short scale. I originally looked at the Music Man version of this instrument, but as a hobbyist, $2000+ seemed a bit much. The Sterling version made more financial sense, and Musician's Friend's Memorial Day Sale sealed the deal for me. This is a good, workable instrument with decent action and great tone. (Disclaimer: I've only played this bass through a set of modellers – A bass amp is in my near future.) The single pickup is fine – And all of the positions on the 3 knobs are musical. The quality dropped copper finish and hardware belong on a much more expensive instrument.Mark V
I bought this mostly just for fun and noodling around. I hadn't had a short scale in a long (ha!) time. Solid instrument SUPER HOT output! This thing is loud. Somehow. It's passive which surprised me. When I tried this out in-store, nobody knew what the controls were. So, now I know. The electronics are completely different from (oh no do we need a new retronym now?) a … "regular?" … StingRay: 1. Volume with push/ push boost 2. 3-way switch in the middle on the plate allows you to run the pickup in series/ parallel/ single coil. 3. Passive tone control. In the looks department, it compares favorably to its Big Cousin, the StingRay. A case that fits just about perfectly: https://www.guitarcenter.com/Road-Runner/RRDWE-Deluxe-Wood-Electric-Guitar-Case.gc … I asked the staff at GC Atlantic City their opinion of the fit and they were like "Oh wow that really is a great fit!" This exact case is shown in the photos with the bass in it. Might want like an extra 1/2" of padding for top-to-bottom security maybe. We'll see. The bad: fret ends were not well finished. I had to get some putty to fill them in a bit. Not sure if this is a "sat in a box across the ocean for a while" kind of problem or a fit/ finish build problem.Mike
I was looking for a good short scale bass to ease my shoulder stress during long sets. I also didn't want to spend too much as I already have several basses. The cutaways, low weight, and thin neck make it very comfortable to play so I think I chose right. The pickup is also right up my alley as I have never really liked active basses. The three way switch has some good variance and haven't really disliked any of the tones I've gotten from the bass. If you're looking for a short scale you should definitely look into this one. My only gripe was I noticed some neck dive while playing. I bought the dropped copper version which is made of a different wood than the other colors so maybe the nyatoh wood is lighter than the mahogany versions. I plan on switching out the stock tuners soon to lighter tuners to correct that issue, but even as it stands currently I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker.Josh L

Reviews:
I have been wanting one of these since I saw Nathan East use one while performing with Toto. I am really impressed with the overall quality and sound of this bass. I own lots of boutique 5 string 35 scale USA made basses. This is my only imported bass. I am enjoying gigging with it. Great tonal range and great looking instrument. Don't hesitate to try one. I know you will be pleasantly surprised.Bgeetr
When I decided to make the jump to a 5 string. I decided to test out everything I could find. This is the bass I ended up purchasing. The moment I held it I knew it had knocked out most of the competition. The balance, feel, and the neck are fantastic. The neck doesn't feel any bigger than a 4 string even though it obviously is. You can dial into just about any tone you can think of. But what I love is that while this bass is about a versatile as is possible. It still has its own attitude It's not just a parrot. Also it should be noted that this bass is game and it wants to cut through. The bass and treble boost/cuts are strong (especially the bass). Finally this thing's build quality is just outstanding. I mean seriously you see one of these and they scream quality. Speaking of looking at it. These basses are gorgeous to look at. Seriously they're head turners. Get one. You need it.The Voice
The best bass I've ever played. As versatile as Nathan East plays in every genre of music. The mid sweep is so great to shape the tone that no other bass has. Very neat finishing and craftsmanship. You only need this one bass to cover all kinds of music you play. The low in insane, the treble is rich and sparkling. Very worth it with the price.

I just love the weight and tone of this bass. I bought my 1st one in 1964 and have had several others since. The only minus is that it is so connected to Paul it doesn't look as cool with other players. The tone and ease of playing make up for the McCartney cool factor. Would recomend for anyone who wants a bass that sounds great and is easy to play………Rivets
owning the Hofner is a dream come true, especially the Vintage 1962. I also have an an Ignition, Union Jack, which I purchased last year. I use the Ignition when I go to my lessons and if we are playing outside. My Vintage 1962 I also use practicing at home or when I play inside or with the church group.

Reviews:
This is my second Ray 34. I preform live and do records so a good bass that sounds great and holds tuning is key. This meets every requirement I need. The tone is spot on for the Hard Rock I play. Sounds great in Pro Tools with no added effects other than a simple EQ. The finish looks great. I would definitely say if you want a Stingray bass and can not afford one get a Ray 34. I have had no problems or complaints with them.Bob On Bass
Overall: I own quite a few bass guitars and this one is fantastic. It's is well balanced and feels incredibly comfortable. Practically plays itself. Electronics are high quality as is all the hardware. Mine is in Natural and it looks beautiful. All the quality of a Music Man at an amazing price.Robert

Reviews:
Bought this on a whim after demoing a good portion of the basses on the store wall. This one had better sound than most of the basses I played at a price that doesn't break the bank. Bought this a week after buying a high end bass as the Musicman sound is what I was after. The bass is on the heavy side, but so are my high end basses. I do plan to swap out the 5-way switch, bridge, tuners, and nut down the road. But for now I'll use this to jam and record as it's great out of the box. No visual imperfections that I can find on it.Musicman

Reviews:
I've been performing and recording electric bass for 50 years and this bass is my 1st 5 string bass. But it is my 2nd MM stingray, my other being a 4 string from the 80's that sounds great, plays great, but is very heavy. Up until recently I've avoided extended range basses as a traditional style "fender 4 bassist" but I've also acknowledged the advantage to having a low B string when working w/ keyboardists so I finally took the plunge, and am I glad I did. It's taken me the better part of a month of not playing anything else to begin to get used to this new string configuration but it's happening and I'm enjoying the process. So, about the bass; I pulled the trigger when I saw the advertised weight of 8.2 pounds, for a 5 string?!?!?! When I weighed it at home on my hanging digital scale it was 8.16. WOW. The new stingray special really is something special, 1) it's light 2) it's incredibly stable, I tune it about 1x a week and I practice every day, 3) the NECK! the new gunstock oil/wax finish is the best feeling neck I've ever played, the radius is perfect for it, and the maple board is nothing less than a racetrack. I've got one other bass who's neck I appreciate this much , a 1965 pre-cbs L series precision. 5) all of the aluminum hardware works perfectly and is gorgeous 6) it arrived w/ perfect fretwork and a perfectly cut nut. I ply w/ low action and this bass holds it; very minimal relief and 5/64" clearance at 17th fret on the B string. This stingray special is tight!
I recently purchased this bass (smoked chrome single H) and I couldn't be happier. The bass looks better in person than online! Besides the looks, the bass weight is balanced (no neck dive) and light. This is my third Musicman purchase and I will say the setup wasn't great with any of them. I don't mind that since I will change out the strings and adjust them to my own liking anyways. I added EB cobalt flats to mine and love the tone I'm getting from it. Be warned! This bass punches through the mix! I played it recently at my church and I was asked to dial back the volume because it was to much for the mix. I don't mind that because it's better than not having enough power and it was a simple fix! The neck feels amazing, better than the satin finish on my fender P and J basses. I had a choice between this bass and a Fender Elite precision and the difference was in the feel and weight. They both sounded great but the low weight and feel of the neck did it for me. You won't get that from a picture/description online! If you're on the fence about getting one try it out at your local GC like I did. I have no regrets with this bass, it's craftsmanship at its finest.Adam
I have always avoided a Music Man because of the price tag. I decided to trade in two of my top line Schecter basses for this and I DON'T regret my decision. This Stingray has perfect balance, perfect tone, and perfect set up right out of the box. My bandmates love the deep growl of the low end and the clear highs on the upper end. The HH set up allows me to get all the various tones I need for my Alternative music band. I get the punch I need for my RHCP, Green Day, Blink 182 songs along with my deep tones needed for my Foo Fighters, Weezer, Muse, Killers, Toadies and all my other songs. My Schecter basses were great but were not this versatile. I will never go back to middle of the road basses now that I have been stung by the Stingray!Bean

Reviews:
the good – this bass is fantastic. it feels and sounds really good to me. I love the adjustable nut as well as the super adjustable bridge. the pot cavity plate isn't screwed on, it attaches kind of like a battery cover. the included strap-locks seem to work very well, don't see any issues with them. the width at the nut is an inch and a half and the neck is a D shape I believe. it's a smidge chunkier than an Ibanez neck. two volume and one tone works like a champ – lots of different tones can be had. the whole bass is balanced really well. the bad – I got an open box discounted bass. what can I say, it was calling to me and they were back ordered a month or two plus it was listed as "mint". when I opened the carton my heart sank. normally there is the shipping box and another one containing the instrument. my bass was put in the shipping box and then half heartedly covered in bubble wrap and paper. it looked like a five year old with greasy potato chip hands packed it. the bass was not "mint" at all. there is a good sized gouge at the rear of the body undoubtedly caused by the included eight inch long truss rod allen wrench that was floating around in the one and only box. packed by a five year old. with greasy potato chip hands. if this bass was anything but brilliant I would have requested a refund. despite the bad, which is not the fault of Warwick, I would buy this bass again in a heartbeat.Bob
Perfect bass. Lightweight with big tone. Well-made and feels great. There is literally nothing I don't like about it.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
