Great bass guitar, I had a copy of a P bass from 'G4M' & was'nt that happy with it. I have a Squire Telecaster which is very well made & sounds excellent so I went for the Squire Jass bass & I hav'nt been disappointed, again well made & no setting up require, stays in tune & is a pleasure to play. Although this bass is at the bargain basement end of the price range, I am very happy with it. It replaces my other Sunburst J Bass that had a truss rod issue and thus would never hold a tune for long even with ultra light weight strings. I love the colour, shame rosewood fretboards are not available on cheap guitars. The Laurel fretboard did come up nicely, and darker, after a clean and an oiling. Looks really great. There was a little scuff mark on one of the horns, a transit issue I guess, but came out with a little buffing. It is now fitted with D'Addario flats which look, feel and sound great. Thanks Guys.Pat

Its a little by chance what you get from mex. fenders in terms of craftsmanship and details. Mine has a little dent and a little gap between neck and body but it is sturdy. Fret work is not like americans. Tone wise and playability is good. I like the look of pau ferro wood. Neck shape is comfy not like 70s baseball bat p bass more like 70s j bass. The orange color is the reason i pick this one, fender changing colors every two three years so if you have this color in mind go for it. Much much better in real than pictures. Overall, if you need a good practice/little jamming bass its a good alternative. Instead of squiers go for this. I have sire as well, if you dont like/need active preamp simple is the best. Also, this new pickups are good, have good bass and midrange not scooped like some american pickups. One final thing, I've tried couple of player series before ordering this, some of them is not well at all in build quality. So, it is a little surprise what you get, check after you buy it and then decide to keep it or not. Have fun..
Purchased the Fender Player Jazz bass. Overall great looks and sound, but some quality issues from the Fender Mexico factory (not Andertons' fault): – First bass had very clear weird uneven blemish under the varnish on the sunburst body. Not awful, but if I was in-store I would never have chosen that particular item. Returned and swapped by Andertons, no quibbles. Second bass arrived. Overall happy, sounds great, but still a few issues with quality control and design. – Control plate was missing 2 screws and was moving around – how does that get through Fender quality control? Replacement screws sent free of charge by Andertons. – Nut has not been slotted correctly – high G must have been passed through a machine and slipped, string is clearly a couple of mm too close to fretboard edge and you can see the failed first pass. Doesn't really affect playability, but is annoying and I will get it corrected at some point. Again, points to poor quality control. – Fretboard (Pau Ferro) is really thin – on the Player series, at least. Neck fret dot markers in white are half over the mid-dark fretboard, half over the light maple neck. Very hard to see in low light levels. OK, so they're just an indicator for position, but the design isn't great. So overall, the bass sounds great and Andertons service was very good. …and falls in love. Let me start by saying I actually have owned one other P-Bass. I had a 50s reissue Precision, but honestly the neck was just too thick for my liking after years of playing Jazz basses. Honestly, it felt thicker than the neck on my Yamaha 5-string. So, I picked this bass up after always dancing around getting what would be considered a more standard P-Bass. I have a 70s Jazz with a ton of modifications, I've had quite a few other brands of basses, but I wanted to see what the fuss was about. I ordered this a few weeks ago, and have been very pleasantly surprised. The action was pretty good out of the box. I adjusted it a bit, made a few tiny tweaks to the intonation, and now it's super smooth. And, on the pickups, let me say it's a great sounding bass. Pickups are clear, bass sounds great. I play through a little Ampeg Micro cabinet. Earlier this week, I bought some Flats to throw on it (because that's what you do with a P-bass, right?) and now it's quickly becoming one of my favorite instruments to jam with. It really cuts through the mix when playing in a group. I see why folks really love the sound of a precision. My Jazz still has it's place, but man, I really like the sound of this bass. The Player P is a great value for what you get. I've never owned an older MIM, but I research the heck out of pretty much any purchase I make, and it looks like Fender really stepped it up with this rendition of their MIM Precision basses. Good tone out of the box, no discernible pickup noise, good action, a beautiful neck, and a Tidepool Blue finish that just shines and shines.Dennis F

My experience- The fit and finish is great. I didn’t have any setup issues as I’ve read here. Sounds great. Everything was set up perfectly even matched the fender setup guidelines I looked up. I didn’t have to do anything other than some lemon oil on the fretboard, and I run flats so I put new strings on. Really impressed with the bass. The necks the same as a jazz but medium scale. Rolling off the tones and bridge pickup volume I’m in Motown mode, or crank the jazz bridge and you can get close to Jaco tone. Very versatile bass. I will probably put a hi mass bridge on and I like the stacked knobs but they have some rough feeling spots when turning them, I’ll probably upgrade those at some point with fender parts. Happy with the purchase and definitely recommend the bass and AMS to anyone.Chris
Very happy with my purchase only regretting that I haven't bought it earlier! Straight out of box was perfect. Well set up and playable. Packaged very well every detail is on spot! Sound-amazing punchy heavy sound even too many options for me. Variety of the sound is up on you cause knobs are fantastic (tone, volume controls) Feel / external – looks fantastic and any time can change pickguard to upgrade. I received this bass a little over a week ago and like it more everytime I pick it up. This bass is is a joy to play. The fit and finish are really good. The body paint job is flawless. The neck pocket is slug as it should be. The neck is very comfortable. The fretwork is great with no fret-sprout or rough edges, and they are nicely polished. The bridge is a standard bend metal bridge. The open back tuners turn smooth and hold tuning with no issues. The pickup is very high output, with lots of low and low-mids. It has a darker tone, partly from the placement and the ceramic humbucking design. I like this tone a lot. The playability is very good. The 32" inch scale makes long reaches a little easier than a standard 34" and the string tension is obviously tighter than a short scale 30". The only negative that I can see anyone having is the light body and the large tuners make it a little neck heavy, nothing that a good strap can't remedy, and still way better balanced than any Thunderbird and most Gibson EB style basses.I am very pleased with this bass. I really thought that I would be modding this bass with new pickups, electronics and possibly a highmass bridge and lightweight tuners, but at this point I think I'd keep it stock with one exception. I will probably shield the control and pickup cavities. I do that to all my basses since I have a lot of electronic interference where I practice. Squier/Fender hit a homerun with this bass.

The Squier Bronco Bass delivers exactly what I expected. It's a 30" scale bass with a body shaped like the Fender Mustang bass; it has a single pickup (I believe it's a strat pickup), is fairly light weight (mine weighs in a 7 pounds 10 ounces), and it's a fun little axe. It's also the lowest-priced bass by an actual musical instrument company. How do they keep the price down? One way is that this is the only bass I've owned that has no fingerboard. It doesn't affect anything, but the front of the neck IS the fingerboard. The hardware is okay quality. But here's the thing – it sounds decent, feels great, plays well. There's going to be a little luck of the draw in a lower priced instrument, but my tuners stay in tune, intonation was on, everything is good. There was a little too much neck relief, but that was easy to adjust. If you're realistic about your expectations, the Squier Bronco Bass is an awesome value, looks good, and it gets you playing. It's not going to sound like a Stingray or a Geddy Lee Jazz Bass, but it doesn't sound bad, either – I would do a show with one without worrying about it. I have other basses, but wanted to add an inexpensive short scale to my stable, and this bass was exactly what I wanted. I may upgrade the pickup later – I may not. For now, it falls between my 34" scale and 28.6" scale basses, and it's fun to play. I'm very happy with it.Pcake
I ended up using this bass for songs where long scale can be a bit difficult. My main bass is an imported '54 P Bass copy, Alder body and maple neck/fingerboard. It had to go into a local shop for some major nut repair, and I needed something to play around with. Off the rack, it was a pretty great bass for the price. The neck is very well crafted, no sharp fret edges like some imported instruments. It's an agathis body, so the tone can be kind of bland, but compared to older Squier Broncos, it seems that all of the bridge and neck contact one piece of wood on the multi-piece construction, so sustain isn't too bad. The bad: The tuners are pretty sorry and are an oddball size, which makes replacement with good tuners very difficult. My E and A tuners rattle some, but all four do hold tune pretty well for cheap tuners. Also, the stock pickup is a six-pole ceramic Strat pickup, so it can sound…odd when bending strings. The other bad is the bridge: although it intonates pretty well, two saddles can make proper intonation difficult to achieve along with proper radius. Also, the bridge mounting pattern is almost impossible to replace with another bridge–four hole lock-down and quick-release style bridges DO work, but the bridge is mounted a little too far forward, and intonation is almost always sharp on the upper end of the fingerboard. Gotoh 201's are also very difficult to adapt to fit. But for its price point, some of these cons are easily fixed. I have a Mojotone Alnico V lipstick Strat pickup in mine with CTS 500K pots. It sounds excellent–it fools some of my buddies about how cheap it is. This bass could probably also benefit from a bar retainer near the nut. It went from an around the house beater to a mainstay for certain songs.Isher
my dad, a professional and extremely experienced bass guitarist, bought me this for christmas last year, and i love it. this is the first bass i've ever picked up and it's easy to play, is well built, has a nice feel to it, etc. i highly recommend it for beginners. i play it in my school band class and it fits in very well with the rest of the instruments. however it can fall out of tune easily and the pickup isn't the best, but ultimately it's the most perfect beginner bassout there, especially for the low price, it's high qualityace

I've had this bass for almost two weeks now, maybe a bit more. I didn't give my feedback befor today, since I would've given it less than a one. However, I waited for a reason. The sound is great, and I don't mind the sound of the stock pickups. It looks great, but that's trivial to me compared to the sound. Now here's a problem that few have mentioned. While some said, it's playable right out of the box, IT ISN'T. I got the bass in a pretty bad condition. Meaning, the action was too high, and the pickups were too close to the strings. It was virtually unplayable, even though I convinced myself that I could play it; which I did. But the pain in my fingers was indescribable, I almost got depressed. I changed my strings a week later to SH77 flat wounds .50 (heavy and thick strings), which didn't help initially. So I tried adjusting the action myself, but still wasn't enough. A day later, I sent it to a professional for setup. Now that made all the difference. I'm in love now. The strings sound amazing, the bass plays amazing, the feel is amazing, …. in brief it's amazing. Bottom line, have it setup by a professional ( unless you are a professional technician), otherwise you'll struggle with this bass. Unfortunately, the agent at MF mentioned that it's playable right out of the box, and I was naive to believe it. Anyway, live and learn. Set it up, and you'll already to go. I purchased a Sterling sub series stingray5 a week earlier and really wasn't happy so I went to return it. While I was there I was trying out some of the usual fenders that are in stock and just wasn't feeling it. Then, I noticed this one. I played it for 5 minutes and couldn't stop. It had the most comfortable neck I've ever played. After comparing it to a couple more expensive p bass options, this one was still the clear winner. The design may not be typical fender, and it's almost reminiscent of an Ibanez or a Washburn, but the ergonomic are like no other. Trust me this guitar is worth a shot. The tone is warm and growly. If you could imagine mixing the bass tone of the red hot chili peppers and the pixies, this would be what it sounds like.Chris
I got this bass recently and have to say its my go to bass for everything. I have a few others like a Dean which is nice, but feels odd due to its weight balance. But the Aerodyne sits well and feels comfortable. I think the tone of it sounds really good. Bought this in store so I got to test it out, action isnt bad. I did some innotating which only the E string needed it. I'm sorta new to bass, but I been producing music for 10 years. But being a new bassist, it feels great. I do highly recommend this bass. My main basses are 4 string American Fender P's but I've been thinking about getting a fiver for years and a recent project pretty much required one. I wasn't thrilled about spending over $1000 for a decent instrument that I wasn't sure I'd play all that much but after reading reviews on this bass around the web I decided to get it as the price made it not all that much of a risk.Upon first playing it, I was absolutely floored. It plays beautifully. The 19mm string spacing makes it feel natural. The hardware is far better than I expected. I won't be swapping out tuners etc. Although I had some concern about the ebonol fingerboard it isn't an issue for me at all. It feels quite good.I've already gigged it a few times and decided that it's definitely a keeper. I will be changing out the pickups and probably the preamp, as the electronics are the weak point here and not quite up to snuff, but that's a quibble. This is a an incredible value for the money and after a little bit of upgrading will go head to head with instruments that cost four times as much.Cerver
I'll tell you what, I never thought I'd buy a squire, but if you are making the switch from a 4 string I'd suggest this be your first bass. I bought a Peavy 5 string with a 45mm nut and struggled hard to learn on it and after some research I found players make the switch better with wider string spacing. IE, 4 string spacing with an extra string. Squire delivered on that and an O/A volume control which IMO it is stupid to build an instrument and not put an OA volume control like the Peavey I'm going to have to modify now, if I ever play it at all. Seriously aside from it being heavy like any other Jazz bass it is an awesome buy and I am saving money to purchase the sunburst one now. I got the black one. My only complaint is the weight, I generally hate Jazz basses because they're like strapping on a deadlift bar with strings, but the neck and the components make it worth the weight. when I save up enough money for the sunburst, I am thinking about drilling holes in the one I have to make it lighter. I've seen a few guitars with holes drilled in them, tactfully done it looks pretty cool. anyway good Job Squire! I'm not even afraid to say I bought a squire now. This is my first 5 string bass, and it is very nice. I took it to my guitar set up guy, James Hood Guitars in Carlsbad, CA and they did an excellent job on the set up. The action was a bit high when I got it, but easily fixed. The pickups sound very good, and it is a pleasure to play. It's a heavy bass, but I like heavy guitars. Neck feels great in my hand. I would recommend this bass to anyone who dosen't want to pay the stiff USA price, yet still wants a great looking, nice playing and sounding bass. Great road axe.allerando

The built-in tuner is what every guitar needs. the 12-volt battery compartment is easily successible at the plug-input port — no more cramping your hand to reach past the strings inside the tone-hole. The intonation is perfect, with no fret buzz all the way up the neck. Most impressive is the volume! This acoustic bass holds its own even without amplification. I recently started playing bass guitar. My 12 yr old daughter plays the acoustic guitar, and my wife plays the harp. I chose an acoustic electric bass as my starter so we could all play together and have better cohesion and continuity in our sound in addition to the simplicity and flexibility an acoustic electric bass gives for playing/practicing. I am able to practice quietly, and it is extremely portable and very playable just about anywhere. I did some research and chose this one as "the one" to start on and very glad I did. The quality is outstanding, the sound is beautiful, and i just outright enjoy playing it. Plus I got it in black and love the look of it. I am very happy with this bass. This bass is perfect for just grabbing off the stand and playing whenever the mood strikes me, practicing while everyone else is sleeping (without need of sweaty headphones), or sitting out in the yard playing. I ordered it on a Sunday and it arrived that Thursday set up with about a millimeter of neck relief and about a 5 mm action, tuned down one step from standard. The onboard Fishman tuner is super handy and it agrees perfectly with my Snark Super Tight. It has a nice, rich tone across the spectrum both plugged in and unplugged. A word of caution if you do plug it in, though: have plenty of cable and make sure your muting technique is on point; it is LOUD! (In a good way!) I've only had it about 3 weeks at this point but I can foresee a long, lovely relationship with this beautiful bass!Vic B.

Just got back into playing in a band after a lengthy layoff from music and needed to update my gear starting with a new bass. After extensive researching of what's new out there on the scene, it came down to the Fender Jazz bass and the Fender Player Series Precision bass. Went to my local GC and spent nearly three hours playing both and while both sound amazing, the P-bass just has more punch and a thicker bottom sound that I love. I've had it a few weeks now and have spent hours in my little studio, and with the band and Wow! the P-bass despite only passive pick-ups does everything I need it to do for Rock, hard rock, blues, pop and funk. The P-bass was all but ready to play right from the store with the only adjustment I had to make was lowering the action to where I like it, and changed the strings out to D'Addario flatwounds. Lastly, the all black body and machine head and chrome trim, plus the Rosewood fretboard just gives it an incredible stage appearance.Shark

As the headline says…it's very enjoyable to play. I've even made several recordings using it instead of my Fender USA Pro 2 Precision. It does a decent job on the P pickup; the J has lower output. To my surprise I'm really digging the "raw" feel of the neck; it's bare, tho sanded well. Another surprise: neck profile width and taper is like a J bass, yet the depth/shape feels more like a P! Huh!? Hey, works for me! With its black body and pickguard and the maple fingerboard it looks like it means BUSINESS! Point removed for the too-stiff tuner action. And then…I've managed to get the action very low, just where I like it. (FWIW, even on my USA Pro 2 I had to shim the neck to be able to get the level of low action that I prefer.) Yes, ladies n gentleman, I really appreciate this Affinity PJ. I am considering using it for punk and classic rock parts of the band's gigs; not out of the question at all!Leo
This bass looks, feels, and sounds great! Did they nail the bodywork and neck lines? No, not completely. But that's about as much as I've got for negatives. This is one of the best 5 string necks I've felt. Less pizza shaped than the EHB but almost that good. Could have been nice to see a heavier finish on the fretboard but the edges are rolled with no sharp frets at all – unlike my cv 70s P. Sound on this Destroys the EHB and my sr505. Can't say how road worthy the pots and tuners are but I don't want to change anything and mess with this mojo. Unless you need silent pickups and can live with the tradeoffs. I don't know what you would need other than maybe a beefier jack. Setup was mind blowing. Literally took it out of the box in store. Got home, string height was dialed, haven't checked intonation yet but sounds fine. Was hardly even out of tune. Strings feel quality, I will probably even hold off changing those. This bass is making a lot of basses look and sound like questionable decisions. If you are worried about durability, honesty, get a good hard case. This thing feels plenty solid. Make sure the tuners and string trees are greased up and jam away.Arturo
I got mine in Black body, black pickguard, maple neck with maple fingerboard, It came with good setup right out of the box, I like the headstock's face with large "Precision Bass" 70's style logo, with gloss tint on it. The maple neck is one piece neck. I have other Affinities basses but this one sounds terrific, a lot of growl sound on P pickups , I like the P sound but also the J pickup is welcome. I always like this combination: black on black with maple fingerboard. I recommend this bass, Squier is getting better and better with the years. The only complain with this is that the Jazz Pickup is less sounding than the P bass pickup, I needed to rise the Jazz pickup to get better output but not the same output than the Precision pickup.Garedot

Folks, let me start out by saying that I am a former professional drummer and have limited experience on the bass. However, I spent years locking tight with bass players to creat a solid foundation for the band and I know what sounds right. This bass guitar is a beauty. I was originally going to buy a standard jazz bass MIM. But I saw this and had to check it out. One of things that sold me on this bass was that it came with Geddy's high mass bridge. For all intent and purposes it is a Leo Qwan bridge which Geddy has on his #1. It really makes a difference in the sustain, it just keeps going and going. Also, the bridge just looks good… big and meaty. The neck plays like butter and the black binding and blocks on the fretboard just sets this bass apart appearance wise. The pups are solid, I might change those out one day…but honestly they sound great. This is a really well built bass and I completely reccomend you buy this bass. I'd been wanting a Fender Jazz bass since I was a kid. Started off playing on a Squier P-Bass Special and I always liked the Jazz neck. Better than I expected. The tone is bright and cuts nicely. The neck is fast and the body is comfortable and not too heavy. Set up was also pretty good coming out of the box. Definitely going to be buying another Fender through AMS next year or so. As a touring and studio studio musician I am thrilled to have a bass at this caliber. The sunburst design is breathtaking. The action feels and sounds great right out of the box. This is the first time I have ever had a bridge that looks and feels the way this one does. It really ties the aesthetic together! When you have all of the tone knobs up you get a really hot and bright bass sound that cuts through records. This can easily be adjusted on the knobs or in post cutting off everything above 4K. The neck is slimmer than most bassses I have played, which makes it super easy to glide up and down this bass. The soft case it comes with isn't too special and I will be upgrading to a hard case since I take it to the studio with me (will eventually gig on it). I've had it for a few months now and it can be heard on countless records coming out of the SF Bay Area. It meets and over exceeds all expectations I had set for it. It also sounds great using the old sponge trick to get the motown down you traditionally hear on a P Bass. Anyone looking to get a Fender Jazz, I would highly recommend the Getty Lee model.Ryan

I am absolutely loving this bass. I am a guitar player who wanted a bass for recording. I had been using a Squier bass but wasn't satisified. It just didn't sound and feel like Fender Precision Basses I'd played in the past. Decided to pull the trigger on this, and am so glad I did. It is significantly heavier and just feels much more solid. The fingerboard is fabulous. The back of the neck is so smooth and comfortable to play. The frets are perfect. Hardware so much better overall. Tuners much more solid…less tuning issues. And the sound is exactly what I was going for. It sits in my mixes so much better than the Squier bass was. And it is beautiful on top of everything. Can't recommend this bass enough.William
I purchased the Dakota Red Vintera Precision bass because I have been looking for that vintage feel and sound without having to mortgage the house. I wish I could afford a true vintage '58 Precision Bass, but the Vintera does not leave me disappointed. The first thing you will notice is it's beefy neck. If you are looking for a slim modern neck, this isn't it. It is the vintage "C" style neck with a wider fretboard which feels really good to me IMO. The gold aluminum pick guard really stands out next to the red of the body. The craftsmanship and finish is excellent; no fret sprouts or blemishes in the finish. The electronics are excellent with no buzz or crackle and the pups definitely have that vintage sound, particularly when the tone is rolled all the way off; you can definitely channel your inner James Jamerson and Duck Dunn. If you roll the tone back up it nicely brightens things up. I did have my luthier complete a set-up on it and I did change the stock strings with La Bella flats to further provide that old school sound. If you are looking for a bright modern sound then you may want to check out the Vintera Jazz basses. I play the bass through a Fender Rumble which allows this bass to sound it's best. Lastly, the tuners do their job well and provide stable tuning. This is an excellent bass and I have no reservation with recommending it if you want the old school feel and sound. While Squier makes great instruments at a fair price point, this Vintera Precision is like a different world compared to my previous basses. You can feel the overall quality of the parts, the fit & finish, and the materials just by picking up the bass and playing around on it. I received it in the mail almost perfectly set up by Music Store. Only the action was too high for me, but that was an easy adjustment. The bass has a wide, not too thin neck profile that is not very deep. Super comfortable to play. The nut width is slightly larger than on other modern P-Basses which is nice if you like the extra space. I really like the way this forces you to play a little bit different compared to a narrower fretboard, like for example on a Jazz Bass. The difference compared to a regular P-Bass is pretty small. You just get a feeling of more space for fretting. The fretboard radius is also a bit smaller than on a modern P-Bass. This makes for a very balanced playing feel in my opinion. These differences are all nice touches and make for a slightly different playing feel, but don't make it any harder to play than a regular P-Bass. The sound is absolutely wonderful. The 50s-style pickups have a slightly compressed sound that sound great on its own, plugged directly into a DI box or an interface. I replaced the factory set of strings with .045-.105 LaBella flatwounds which is a perfect fit for this pass. The low-mids are greatly enhanced by putting a set of flats on this bass. It sits beautifully in the mix and is never weak or overpowering – always perfectly balanced. The fit and finish of this bass is great. I'm not one to go looking for faults in the paint or anything like that, but I absolutely have not spotted any quality control issues with my bass. The hardware is absolutely fine and does the job. You don't get a massive bridge or fancy hardware here, because everything is done to vintage specs. You can, of course, modify these parts later on, but I really don't think that's in the spirit of this vintage-focused instrument. If you want to put a more massive bridge on the bass and modify it in other ways, I would choose a Fender Player Series P-Bass instead which is a bit cheaper – you can spend the difference on your mod parts. The bass is surprisingly light. If you have back issues or generally dislike heavy instruments, I would definitely recommend this one! The lack of weight does not impact the sound quality at all. The only drawback is that, in some positions, it can have a little bit of neck dive, not to a point where it really becomes a problem, however. I always wear a strap even when sitting down, and that takes care of the very slight neck dive very easily. One thing to keep in mind is that the hardware, specifically the bridge and trussrod, are truly built to vintage spec. This means that the string height adjusters on the bridge do not have tiny hexagonal screws but small slotted screws instead. You will need a very small slotted screwdriver to access these screws. The trussrod can only be adjusted at the base of the neck which can be annoying. You need to remove the neck in order to adjust the trussrod. Here, again, there is no hexagonal screw but rather a large philipps screw to adjust. Small minus points for these features that could have been left out in favor of more modern solutions. I guess the placement and types of screws used make it more true to the vintage specs, but I would much prefer if they had just chosen the modern versions instead. Overall, this is a very beautiful and great-sounding bass that I can only recommend if you like P-Basses, vintage sound, and flatwounds. The build quality is fantastic and I have no doubt that this bass will stay in great shape for a long, long time.

Absolutely belting and beautiful acoustic bass, lovely to play, great sound and lovely to look at. Acoustic basses are great if you’re time and space limited and just need something to pick up and play without the faff of plugging in and finding headphones etc (which i find a bit anti social for my partner and kids). I’ve tried a few acoustic basses and this is the best and it has a surprisingly good slap sound, which I hadn’t expected from an acoustic bass! All in all if you want something to play at home this is the best. I can’t comment on the electric sound (this has a preamp) as I haven’t used it yet and it’s not what I bought it for.D R. M.
This is a great bass! I've owned and played a handful of acoustic basses from different companies in my time and i like this one the best. Let me state first, I'm not a fender guy but…I've always loved the sound of an acoustic bass and I always wanted one, so i shopped around for a while and went through a few different models to arrive at this one. I've had it for a year now and i grow to love it more all the time! The pictures on GC dont do it justice…The high gloss black finish on the body and headstock is sleek and sexy and the bold block inlays coupled with the jazz bass neck and headstock give this beauty a different attitude compared to other acoustic basses and it plays smooth and sounds great! The biggest thing I noticed with this model compared to the other acoustic basses I've had is that this one really projects well and has great tone plugged or unplugged! I travel a lot and this bass has gone a lot of places with me and it's always sure to turn heads. I live in a place where i wouldn't want to crank my amps to play electric so this has become the main bass i use to practice with and i have a lot of fun with it. It looks and sounds great, it's built and finished well, it's fun and smooth to play, it holds its tuning and the electronics don't drain batteries…what more could you ask for? This bass is awesome- great deal on higher end MIM fender line with an included Tweed hardshell case- countoured for the offset J-BASS perfectly. Mine clocked in pretty light at just under 9lb- way lighter than any Squier J-bass I picked up. The sunburst nitro finish is flawless- grain looks good-looking and the tortisehell pick guard truly makes this bass a "time machine" The reverse tuners are a nice touch. The controls are straightforward J-bass- V/V/T. Roll each volume off from "dimed" (this way small volume adjustments act as tones tweaks) adjust bridge or neck to taste or genre- usually 80/70 or 70/80-85 will get you from classic rock to funk. Of course, th'"Jaco"..0/100, all bridge. Watch for hum there… Tone dial in to taste. I start low on tone, and dial in enough to cut through. These alnico vintage pickups seem good to me- I have no plans to change anything- I really like the growl and solid low end they deliver- The strings do need to go, but you know that buying ANY guitar- I had the tech throw flatwounds on it before I checked out (got it at my !ocal shop for the same deal as MF..I was planning on the VMjazz bass- that one sounds good as well..) it sounds seriously great- I've played two gigs with it so far- vintage frets take a bit of getting used to for me, but no problem- it sounds great. I've had my eye on the Fender Jazz Bass since I was a kid watching Joe Osborn with Ricky Nelson's band and since I'm not a professional, I never wanted to put out the money for one but finally said I'll compromise and get the Classic Seires. I own curenetly 3 different types of basses and have been attached to my Washburn RB-2000 for 10 years, but this Fender is pretty awsome and versatile. I've played the American Standard and you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between this Classic Series and the American Standard. These were produced for only a few years & Ive always kept on eye out for a good deal on one and Im glad I did. The jazz bass body is stylish and sleeker looking than the normal p-bass. Both p-bass pickups sound great. the bridge pickup sounds tight & snappy and the middle/neck pickup sounds bass & punchy. The Fender bridge is heavy & beefy. Two volume & 1 tone knob – simple and straightforward. I use this bass for classic rock / hard rock / metal and it cuts through the band no problem. Received the Special Edition Deluxe Ash Jazz Bass and I'm just blown away. I've read the other reviews that said it was ready to play right out of the box, and man, it was. The bass was practically in tune! The finish is beautiful and the ash body is absolutely gorgeous. Plugged it into my Fender Bassman and there was that Jazz Bass growl that everyone loves. There are a couple of things that I'd change, if I ran Fender. I'd do away with the satin finish neck. It just looks cheap attached to such a gorgeous body. Maybe tint the neck to match it more to the body finish? But that's a minor thing. I will upgrade it in the future with a Fender High Mass Bridge and possibly Schaller Keys. The jury is still out on how well they hold tuning. Overall, I'm really "jazzed" on just how good this bass is for the price. And there's just something about an ash body that adds to the overall tone of the bass. This one is definitely a keeper. Buy one! You won't be sorry!MudKatz58
The neck feels a lot like a Fender American Special Jazz I had. What is exceptional is the amount of sustain this bass exibits with the Stock bridge. I feel this is due to the Ash body vs. the Alder on the American Special. Another thing is it's light weight about 7.9 lbs. Fit and finish excellent. The pickups sounded mediocre until I adjusted them to Fender Spec's and they blossomed with tone. I usually like Alnico II Vintage pickups but these (ceramic magnet)do such a good job I am keeping them. If you are having a dull sound set them to spec. The Intonation was spot on (as read by my Peterson VS-1 Strobe tuner). The saddle height perfect and after taking some bow out of the neck action perfect. My one complaint was the pickup screws were installed at different angles making adjustment nearly impossible. I lifted the pickups out of the way, took wooden match sticks and wood glued them in the origional holes then set the pickups back in proper position and used a small drill bit to drill new straight holes. Problem solved. This bass would have definately rated 5 stars had the installer taken the small amount of care to install the screws properly. This is an excellent bass at a very decent price. I have looked at this bass and even bought one before sending it back. I am a Fender fan and I love the natural wood and ash. But I am buying an instrument and not a piece of furniture. Thia bass is just okay. the electronics are cheap and the pup are standard and the ash body is really heavy which is why I sent my original back. I am writing this because there is too much ballyhoo over an average bass. I have played squires that are just as good. Save your money and buy a used American or highway or G&L for the same money or even an EPI alloen woody or Hofner violin for less money and a bit more quality. I have them all, so this is not just hot air coming your way. I know looks are important so look for something else a lot lighter…your back will thank me. PS do not be fooled by the hype about the sound of basswood vs Alder vs ash the weight makes more of a difference except ash is just harder than alder which is harder than basswood.Bass Fisher

This Mexican -made bass captures the look, playability and sound of a late 1950s P-Bass. It is very well built and shares the exact same bridge, anodised pick guard, knobs, ,’reverse’ tuners and strap buttons as its twice as expensive US-built ‘Original Series’ P-bass. The electronics are the same as fitted to an American Standard Precision with plastic coated wiring. Finish is polyurethane but is well done and doesn’t ‘strangle’ the sound one bit. Regarding sound, this model holds its own very well with more expensive models of Vender P-basses. The maple board one-piece neck with walnut insert at rear looks authentic and this neck, while chunky to some hands, is very comfortable and the whole thing is reassuringly solidly built. However the range of colours available is severely limited. Mine is in the now-deleted Fiesta Red. This bass is quite likely the best value that Fender does, given its price to quality ratio. The ‘Classic Series’ 50s P-Bass is a very competent professional-level instrument and will not fail to deliver. Well worth a look for anyone seeking a new Fender Precision Bass, it really is that good.Eamonn
Don't let the MIM cast any preconceived notions about quality on this ax – it is worth the jack for build and the beautiful tone it generates. Straight forward P with no frills, just a great look – the two tone sunburst with the gold metal pick guard really go. The road worn is fine, I can take it or leave it, not overdone though. The weight and weight distribution are fantastic, guessing mine comes in at just 8 lbs, if not a hair less. Having a hard time putting this one down, it has been taking time away from my G&L American ASAT.RhinoLard

I bought this 70's Sunburst Jazz Bass to take the Place of my expensive Original 1966 Fender Jazz Bass that I did not want to take a chance of gigging with and to my Surprise it played very well without any changes but I added a Tortise Shell Pick Guard, Chrome pickup covers and put a Scroll F Neck Plate in place of the Plain one. I also changed the Strings to the Flat wound Stainless Strings and now it is a Bass Players Dream Bass and I enjoy Playing it as much as my 1966. You can't go wrong with this Bass even though it is made in Mexico. It looks and Plays GREAT and just as good as a more expensive Bass. This is my second 70's Classic. I had the first for a week before I realized could get rid of fret buzz and the neck pup was voiced to low. Returned it and was promptly presented with another, of which I've been playing for 1 month.I love vintage, and for me that means the 70's loved the music and the gear. I currently own a Geddy and Marcus sig based on 70 jazz bass. I got the sunburst, and apart from some string buzz its a keeper. It loves to be slapped and popped, the neck is fast and comfortable… the bass is just beautiful. And, If I wanna custom like Marcus and Geddy, now I have my own stock 70's Jazz to start from. I've had this bass for about five months now. The first thing that drew me to this bass is the beautiful neck. I am a sucker for blocks and binding; this bass delivers. It is pure eye candy. I put on a tort pickguard and it made it look even sharper.I love how the instrument feels. It is a joy to play. There are only two bad things about the bass that I can find:1) The electronics are not to my liking. After the initial lust for the bass wore off, I realized that I am too fond of active preamps. I recently put an Audere in and it has done wonders. I fell in love with it all over again.2) Neck thickness. I wanted a Jazz bass because of the thin neck profile. This neck, though beautiful, is chunkier than I would like. I have grown used to it and it feels great in my hands. I just had to get over that initial shock at how thick it is (front to back).The price is also a slight drawback. It is still a Mexican Fender yet priced high. What a great bass. I walked into the music store with my heart set on a six string bass. I saw this beauty and figured to heck with the six, this is better. The neck is wider, but more thin than my other p bass (Squier Classic Vibe 50's). The pickup sticker on it can come off and there is no Seymour Duncan Basslines logo on the pickups. The brass nut assds tons of sustain and the pickups sound amazing. I replaced to stock strings with some GHS Brite Flats and it has the perfect Waters sound. I gave it an eight in features because it only has volume and tone, but what more do you need? The quality is also an eight because the frets were sticking out a bit, but I live in a dry climate, so that's bound to happen. I got it at a great price too (800$). Overall it's an amazing bass. Sounds great, feels great, and it looks great.
I saw the description on this website. Being greatly influenced by Roger Waters I had to find out more. By the description it seemed to be the perfect bass in my opinion. One day I found one at the local SA shop in Hollywood and had to try it out. The fit and finish on the neck and body qualifies as perfect in my book. Love the sheen and feel! The brass nut gave a sonic plus to open string playing that I could never imagine! The Basslines Quarter-Pound pick up not only delivered the perfect bass sound spectrum but also renewed my faith in passive pick-ups. The black hardware gave it a great overall look and did not detract from the sound. Then came the deal-breaker; the frets were advertised as being "medium-jumbo". They were not. They were the thin "vintage style" that I can respect if I did not play with round wound strings. Those frets don't last two years with my string choice and style of playing, so back on the rack it went. I may re-consider one day, because for the price it is so close to being the perfect Precision bass. For now let's just say I'm sitting on the fence, leaning toward making the plunge.
