The Ibanez GSR 200 is one of the best "bang for your buck" basses on the market. They are made with excellent quality, lightweight wood, agathis, maple, rosewood. The onboard P/J pickups and electronics sound good. They play good out of the box but they play excellently if set up by a guitar tech. These were choice basses for many of the bass players supporting MWR tours. Musicians would take Ibanez GRS 200 basses on tour and raffle them off to service members on the last gig.matt4717
I bought the jewel blue one and named it "Jewel". No, not like the singer. I thought it was totally beyond all expectations. I played it for a couple of years before I lost it when my marriage fizzled. Now I want another one. I'm no novice. I've been playing guitar for over 35 years, and Jewel was my third bass. I liked her better than a Fender Jazz. I want another one. To nitpick, I didn't like the square corners on the top of the neck (past all the frets), so I took the neck off and rounded them. Problem solved. I also didn't like that the threads stripped out on the E string bridge piece when I tried to back it up far enough to get the intonation right. But I think the real problem is solved with an Earvana nut. Anyway, if you can't afford to buy the bass everyone is telling you to buy – or even if you can – buy this one. If you don't sound good on it, you don't need a Fender or a Rick, you need lessons.Gravity Zen

As a learner who has been playing a cheap 4 string the move to this 5 string was an excellent experience due to the slender neck. The paint job is out of this world and the hardware oozes quality. I spent a few weeks trying out basses at my local music stores before settling on this bass. What set this bass apart from the others was the tone and the various tones I could get out of it, as well as it's playability. The active EQ is far better than the passive EQ's that I find on other basses. For example, the EQ on Jackson basses are all but useless. There was very little tone difference when varying the EQ controls on Jackson basses. But on this Ibanez, you really hear the difference in the tone settings. The Ibanez has a bass, mid, and treble tone control. So you can really dial in the tone you're looking for. Also, the individual string height adjustment on the Ibanez lets me tailor the action to exactly how I like it. The guitar is well balanced weight wise and so hangs naturally when I play it. I have a BC Rich mockingbird bass which is terribly weighted ad the headstock drops to the floor if I don't have my fret hand supporting the neck. The string spacing on the Ibanez 5 string is good, and I can still play slap bass on it. All the knobs on the bass (except the volume knob) have a mid point that you can feel as your adjusting the tone controls, so you know exactly where "flat" is. I really like that feature.beaglebuddy
Unexpectedly nice looking bass. 2 piece fllamed maple body with a darker burst than the website photos suggested. Not bookmatched, but a nicely figured body. Super versatile preamp and nice sounding, powerful and noise free pickups. Fast, slim neck and good quality hardware. I've tweaked the set up over a couple of weeks and it's playing really well. A far nicer bass than I expected for the price, after some playing in I think it will be better than my mid 90s SR. The Squier Bronco Bass delivers exactly what I expected. It's a 30" scale bass with a body shaped like the Fender Mustang bass; it has a single pickup (I believe it's a strat pickup), is fairly light weight (mine weighs in a 7 pounds 10 ounces), and it's a fun little axe. It's also the lowest-priced bass by an actual musical instrument company. How do they keep the price down? One way is that this is the only bass I've owned that has no fingerboard. It doesn't affect anything, but the front of the neck IS the fingerboard. The hardware is okay quality. But here's the thing – it sounds decent, feels great, plays well. There's going to be a little luck of the draw in a lower priced instrument, but my tuners stay in tune, intonation was on, everything is good. There was a little too much neck relief, but that was easy to adjust. If you're realistic about your expectations, the Squier Bronco Bass is an awesome value, looks good, and it gets you playing. It's not going to sound like a Stingray or a Geddy Lee Jazz Bass, but it doesn't sound bad, either – I would do a show with one without worrying about it. I have other basses, but wanted to add an inexpensive short scale to my stable, and this bass was exactly what I wanted. I may upgrade the pickup later – I may not. For now, it falls between my 34" scale and 28.6" scale basses, and it's fun to play. I'm very happy with it.Pcake
I ended up using this bass for songs where long scale can be a bit difficult. My main bass is an imported '54 P Bass copy, Alder body and maple neck/fingerboard. It had to go into a local shop for some major nut repair, and I needed something to play around with. Off the rack, it was a pretty great bass for the price. The neck is very well crafted, no sharp fret edges like some imported instruments. It's an agathis body, so the tone can be kind of bland, but compared to older Squier Broncos, it seems that all of the bridge and neck contact one piece of wood on the multi-piece construction, so sustain isn't too bad. The bad: The tuners are pretty sorry and are an oddball size, which makes replacement with good tuners very difficult. My E and A tuners rattle some, but all four do hold tune pretty well for cheap tuners. Also, the stock pickup is a six-pole ceramic Strat pickup, so it can sound…odd when bending strings. The other bad is the bridge: although it intonates pretty well, two saddles can make proper intonation difficult to achieve along with proper radius. Also, the bridge mounting pattern is almost impossible to replace with another bridge–four hole lock-down and quick-release style bridges DO work, but the bridge is mounted a little too far forward, and intonation is almost always sharp on the upper end of the fingerboard. Gotoh 201's are also very difficult to adapt to fit. But for its price point, some of these cons are easily fixed. I have a Mojotone Alnico V lipstick Strat pickup in mine with CTS 500K pots. It sounds excellent–it fools some of my buddies about how cheap it is. This bass could probably also benefit from a bar retainer near the nut. my dad, a professional and extremely experienced bass guitarist, bought me this for christmas last year, and i love it. this is the first bass i've ever picked up and it's easy to play, is well built, has a nice feel to it, etc. i highly recommend it for beginners. i play it in my school band class and it fits in very well with the rest of the instruments. however it can fall out of tune easily and the pickup isn't the best, but ultimately it's the most perfect beginner bassout there, especially for the low price, it's high qualityace

Overall: I wandered into a national Music store chain one day in Oct 2016 and went straight to the used guitars that were hanging on the wall in the used section. I'm always trying to keep an eye out on a good used Music Man electric as I try to collect these fine instruments. That particular day there was pretty slim pickings so I wandered through amps, effects and I ended in the pass guitar section. (I do play bass but usually when I write my own tunes) and this 6 string bass caught my eye. It didn't look cheap so I asked one of the vultures hovering there ( employees, just doing their gig) what he could tell me about this bass. It was pretty light-weight, first impression, so he gave me the run-down on the thing and I asked him if I could put it through the paces that I knew and we plugged it into an Ampeg mini brute what ever it was called and began a 45 minute of exploration where I passed this through an extensive test regarding tone, intonation,ease of reaching pots, tome control, The bass boost, I checked out the spec's which were pretty tight on with what was written. The balance was great, ease of use overall in case I plan to take a 6 string bass to a gig and perform for 3 hours was good weight-wise. I was particularly impressed with the bright tome. Overall: I bought this simply to see if I want to pursue playing a 6 string. Beyond a few brief encounters in music stores, I have not played one and opted to try the tried-and-true Ibanez brand. The price point had me a little scared but this was a great purchase. I don't expect to have this long being I will either continue on the 6 string, or it will be flipped into something else. This is my first Ibanez and I will likely give the higher end SR models a closer look regardless of string count. The Good: Price, the setup was perfectly playable out of the box, tone is decent, weight is good for a 6 string, the fret ends a dressed. The Bad: doesn't balance well (Raw leather strap helped), finish is thin and wood not worth keeping natural (wanted the black model but, out of stock), Odd EQC.j.
I had no trouble setting up this bass. I was able set the intonation perfectly. Even the low strings sustain pitch very well and were easy to tune. I added a slight relief to the neck, because there was a lot of string buzz. After this slight adjustment to the truss rods, there is only a buzz when playing hard on the bottom 3 frets of the lowest string. The action is still low and it is very easy to play (though I do have long fingers). The stock strings are very cheap. As someone else stated, I feel upgrading to higher quality strings may resolve the low B buzz issue. The tone is amazing thanks to the built in EQ bass boost. I found it easier to play harmonics than my other basses. Walking bass lines sound smooth and percussive playing sounds pro. This is my new favorite bass. Schecter, ( I read) takes great pride in their craftmanship. I was not happy with getting my fingers ripped up by the rough, sharp fret ends. I talked to a tech at Schecter I described why I was not satisfied. He told me to return it ASAP. I then went out looking for a bass at my local guitar shop, saw the exact same one but the frets were nice and smooth. Makes me wonder if I was sold and received a knock off. Been playing guitar for over 30 years but this is my 1st bass purchase. First off it looks great, I can't find a flaw on it. The hardware seems solid and it arrived in perfect shape only needing tuned up a hair. It's active electronics sound pretty good although the pickups sound kinda…generic. Maybe it's my settings on my amp which is a Hartke HD75. Anyways for the money I find it a solid bass.

I've had this bass for about 6 or 7 years now and it has absolutely blown me away! I didn't play it much when I first got it bc of the weird transition from 4 to 5 strings but over time I've played it more and more. I love it more every time I play on it! I've used this thing for rock, alt metal , death metal, posthardcore bands, jazz bands, jamming with friends stangers in a bluesy way, I've recorded With it and made YouTube covers with it. It's suited more for rock metal punk abd subgenres but it's versatile. This thing will take thick strings if you want (135 B string), the dadario strings that came on it were great too. This thing has great low end roar but can also sing melodically I play a lot of chords/fragments and tremello with a weird playing style and this thing sounds great! It's my favorite bass, it's the best I've played although I haven't tried many abd my others are lower quality. I play guitar too but am mainly a bassist so I like how the strings sit a little closer together than on others or 4 strings. I've had guitarists ask me what I did to make this bass sound so great and they were blown away when I said nothing just took it out the box! I've only had to intoneate it once so far. It's set up was pretty great out of the box the strings were a bit higher off the neck than I was Used to but once I got used to the action I was glad they put it where it was. Only complaint is that the low b sometimes would make the low b harware rattle and I could feel it skake/vibrate the whole bass (it didn't come through amp or anything. This stopped over time and I think higher string gauges might have helped to smooth this out. Batteries for the active pickups seem to last for quiet awhile. I use this through a boss me50b with compression on and through a nice combo amp that can compete with stacks this bass roars through it. First off let me say I've been playing "P" bass for quite a while. My current model is 24 yrs old. Thought I'd shop around for a replacement. No gigging for me anymore. Last one was July 4, 1973. Then along came children. So now I just sit on the edge of the bed and play along with John Paul Jones. When I found this Schecter Omen Extreme -4, I was deciding between an SG standard, and the Fender Aerodyne. Then I picked up this one, simply because it is bezutiful to look at. What a suprise. The pan knob will switch you from a "P" bass to a "J" bass. Even though the Omen has a 34" scale it plays beautifully. I am not disappointed with this purchase. The shape hints at a Jazz bass which I like, hence the Aerodyne search. Never mind that, this plays sweertly. At this time GC us offering an %18 off sale. You just couldn't go wrong. I haven't been playing long. Bought my first bass in 2020 (Epiphone Thunderbird Goth). Started taking lessons online through BassBuzz (Josh is excellent!), after a few weeks of practicing for a minimum of 2 hours a day, I was able to start learning songs for our Praise Team at Church (we currently had no bassist). I'd take my Epiphone of course. I learned to play sitting down, now it's time to stand, my shoulder was killing me! 2nd week of playing at Church and my tone column failed! I took it to GC to get it fixed and spotted the Schecter hanging on the wall. I picked it up and couldn't believe the difference in the weight (again, I'm a novice), my salesperson explained the difference between active and passive and I knew then that I wanted an active guitar. The Epiphone took two uses of muscles for my left arm, one to hold the neck up and of course the other to go up and down the fretboard. This guitar is so balanced it will stay where you place it from the get go. GC gave me a fair trade on the Epiphone so I did the deal the next day. If you're a beginner or even an experienced player, this guitar can make a tremendous difference with ease and sound. I've purchased this bass about a month ago. I did adjust the string height to my preference and changed the strings to the DR black beauties but It quickly became my go-to! The tone and feel are incredible! The string spacing helps to pull off cleaner and fast licks compared to Ibanezs' traditional spacing. The lows are crisp and the mids are full. The lows don't "growl" but it most certainly cuts through. I haven't put it down since it came it. Ibanez broke the mold with this one. You will NOT be disappointed.Peace

The Kelly Bird looks drop dead gorgeous and sounds absolutely thunderous. It's tone and tone shaping ability is amazing. Clean, gritty with some OD, or even some weird solo synth preset you never use on your effects- all sound like you handed the bass to a pro. It has enough punch to scare the dog but also enough top end to play high. The neck is just wonderful. Sanded from the factory without that sticky shellac on cheaper instruments. The fretboard perfectly laid out and the frets properly rounded. The fit and finish is top notch stage quality level. Stock strings are pretty good and it came to me almost perfectly in tune. I love this guitar. From a tonal standpoint it scores top marks. But whoever designed the body has never even held a guitar. The neck dive is just ridiculous. I've had basses that dived before like Warlocks and Mockingbirds, but the Kelly blows them all away in the sheer speed and violence this neck plummets to Earth. It's only saving grace is that it is light so having to hold the thing up with your fretting hand is possible, but ungainly. But for the pick player- it's a challenge. I've seen Megadeth live and Dave Ellefson's bass doesn't dive when he lets go of it. Mine dives like someone yelled 'Incoming! I ended up shoving tire wheel weights in the electronics box until the bass was half again as heavy– and it still dives, just more slowly now. You'd have to add enough weight that the thing is uncomfortable to completely eliminate the dive. Next I am going to hang weight off the rear strap lock. It's silly that I should have to do all this just to make it stay put. I expect neck dive on these body shapes, but the Kelly takes it to another level. Sitting down is no better. The body slides to the outside of your knee, putting the nut somewhere in the next time zone from your body. It is like playing a Steinberger bass, despite those being small you have a long reach to the nut. As a functional guitar body, the Kelly Bird is terrible. Standing or sitting- it's badly shaped and badly balanced. But man, does it look great. Because it sounds so good, I can't give it anything but high marks for actual playing. But only after I have had to resort to frankly silly fixes to try to make it more playable in the first place. Hands down wins the gold medal for neck dive. Still a great bass sound, still love to play it, still think it's the best sounding bass I've ever had. Just have to accept it's faults like any lady you fall in love with.thesollylama

This is the first bass I've ever purchased, I've only played (6 stringed) guitar in the past. This bass is an excellent value for money — it has a great look, and the sound is very good given the price point. The only issue I've experienced is that Rocksmith told me the volume on the instrument is quite low; however, this does not seem to prevent it from hearing the instrument, or being able to tune it correctly. Overall, if you're looking to get into bass for the first time, or moving over from guitar, but are not sure you want to drop $500-$1000 on a bass up front, I would certainly recommend this model. This is a good bass that I picked up as a beater and will probably use more than just for that. For active electronics and the cost, I figured it would be worth any set up that other reviews complained about. Mine didn't require any setup at all. However, there was a really noticeable chip off the paint on the headstock, and I bought new, not scratch and dent. It took two weeks to ship and I didn't want to go through a return process and get a less playable return, so I called Musician's Friend and asked for a rebate. They only gave ten, but I got it on sale and took the deal. As for the play-ability of this bass, it rocks right up there with a lot of basses three times the cost. I bought this for my son for his birth day a year and a half ago. I myself have played bass for over 30 years. I have had this thing professionally set up twice. Fretts needed dressed, action was way too high right out of the box. Electronics are fairly decent and playability is good after a set up. He is happy but already seeking a better bass.Scott
i bought it used, so that may affect my review but the bass was fairly easy to play, but the tuning was an issue. it would stay in tune but the pegs were kinda loose. i should note that this bass has ACTIVE PICKUPS. Meaning it takes a 9v battery to power. Not a big deal but you can't really play the bass without a battery. And if you forget to turn the volume knob all the way down, the battery will drain overnight and be complete dead before you pick the bass back up again. Would i recommend this to someone? yes but if they are beginning to learn how to play the instrument.zach m

I'll never see 70 again, and I finally got me a bass. When I was giggin' back in the stone age with a three piece band i jumped back and forth between lead and bass lines on my 6 string with the aid of a bass booster pedal. My dream was a bass/6 string double neck ax, but at the time I could buy a new car for the price of one of those. Then I managed to get the index finger on my left hand shattered. Only cure was to fuse all the joints so it wouldn't bend at all, and now the only thing it's good for is barre cords. I could still play lead and chords with a little practice, but a standard base was out of the question. The price was right so I thought I'd give one of these short scale jobs a try. Yeah, I know, the Squires have a bad rap with a lot of folk, but this is my third one (strat, tele) and for the price I haven't had much to complain about. For my very first bass, right out of the box, I was totally impressed. Plugged her in, tuned her up, and ran the scales all the way from the nut to the 17th fret with no fret buzz or water to wade in; set up was perfect. A little string squeak at first, but that soon disappeared. Tried every bass line I ever knew and had no trouble with only three fingers on my left hand. The controls on the guitar are rather limited, but with my amp (Fender rumble 15) and it's EQ and overdrive features I've got just about everything I need – 50's and 60's rock and country – and can throw in a little heavy metal if needed. I'm thinking that this baby would be perfect for a young persons first bass, or for anyone with short fingers or like me missing a finger, or arthritis, whatever. I am sure having a lot of fun with it. I work in a 11 x 11 foot room , so the strings needed a little damping – a couple of my grand daughters hair ties fixed that in no time. I could have performed with this back in the day.noshadow
I bought this because I have always been a big fan of the Mustang and Jaguar short scale basses. I am a guitarist and song writer and I have somewhat smaller hands, so I needed a comfortable bass that I could play for session gigs and our own recording. I own a fully modded Fender Telecast but I wasn't looking to spend fender money on a bass just yet. In the last few years Squire has really turned up the production, the bass has good weight, a very smooth and comfortable neck and fret board. Some people on here have talked about fret buzz, part of that has to do with how hard you play it, you'll get buzz on a full grown Pbass or a gibson Firebird if you play too hard, turn up the amp, turn down the fingers, lol. My only caveat, which I didn't count against my rating, is that the electronics are very introductory. The Pbass pickups are nice and fat, round and dynamic, but the Jazz pick up in the bridge leave more to be desired. Along those lines, the bass uses 250k pots. If you like the bass but want a little more, I found the replacement Seymour Duncan set online for 140 add 3 new 500k pots to that and you'll probably have ONE HECK OF A BASS. (this is what I'll be doing in the next month or so)Danny P
The biggest draw to this bass for me was the fact this bass has 20 frets. There aren't a ton of short scale basses available, let alone short scale basses with 20 frets. The last time I owned a short scale bass was probably 12 years or so ago, so I was pretty excited to give this bass a try when I finally got around to ordering it. I had never actually played one of these Jaguars, and since it based off the price, I was pretty nervous about the quality of it. Once the instrument arrived and I set it up, my fears were put to rest. Squier makes some great instruments, especially considering the price. The action is a tad high, but it isn't too bad. The split pickup sounds acceptable, but the bridge pickup is a little weak. I'm planning on replacing the bridge pickup for sure, but I might leave the precision pickup in there. I've replaced the pots with CTS pots, and replaced the cap with an Orange Drop. I also replaced the bridge with just a standard Fender Precision/Jazz bridge. The saddles on Squier passes are pretty horrible, and brass saddles can have a huge effect on the tone. The neck feels pretty great. The nut is the same width as a Jazz Bass, but since the Jaguar is a short scale, it ends up being thinner overall. For someone who prefers the comfort of a Precision Bass neck compared to a Jazz Bass neck's playability, this could be considered a bad thing. Overall, this bass is a great deal. Mine seems to be pretty much flawless, but even if it had a handful of flaws, it'd be hard to complain about them considering the price.Dan

I am absolutely loving this bass. I am a guitar player who wanted a bass for recording. I had been using a Squier bass but wasn't satisified. It just didn't sound and feel like Fender Precision Basses I'd played in the past. Decided to pull the trigger on this, and am so glad I did. It is significantly heavier and just feels much more solid. The fingerboard is fabulous. The back of the neck is so smooth and comfortable to play. The frets are perfect. Hardware so much better overall. Tuners much more solid…less tuning issues. And the sound is exactly what I was going for. It sits in my mixes so much better than the Squier bass was. And it is beautiful on top of everything. Can't recommend this bass enough.William
I purchased the Dakota Red Vintera Precision bass because I have been looking for that vintage feel and sound without having to mortgage the house. I wish I could afford a true vintage '58 Precision Bass, but the Vintera does not leave me disappointed. The first thing you will notice is it's beefy neck. If you are looking for a slim modern neck, this isn't it. It is the vintage "C" style neck with a wider fretboard which feels really good to me IMO. The gold aluminum pick guard really stands out next to the red of the body. The craftsmanship and finish is excellent; no fret sprouts or blemishes in the finish. The electronics are excellent with no buzz or crackle and the pups definitely have that vintage sound, particularly when the tone is rolled all the way off; you can definitely channel your inner James Jamerson and Duck Dunn. If you roll the tone back up it nicely brightens things up. I did have my luthier complete a set-up on it and I did change the stock strings with La Bella flats to further provide that old school sound. If you are looking for a bright modern sound then you may want to check out the Vintera Jazz basses. I play the bass through a Fender Rumble which allows this bass to sound it's best. Lastly, the tuners do their job well and provide stable tuning. This is an excellent bass and I have no reservation with recommending it if you want the old school feel and sound. I've been a Precision Bass player since I started playing bass years ago. This is my first "real" Fender bass however, after playing several different Squier basses over the years. While Squier makes great instruments at a fair price point, this Vintera Precision is like a different world compared to my previous basses. You can feel the overall quality of the parts, the fit & finish, and the materials just by picking up the bass and playing around on it. I received it in the mail almost perfectly set up by Music Store. Only the action was too high for me, but that was an easy adjustment. The bass has a wide, not too thin neck profile that is not very deep. Super comfortable to play. The nut width is slightly larger than on other modern P-Basses which is nice if you like the extra space. I really like the way this forces you to play a little bit different compared to a narrower fretboard, like for example on a Jazz Bass. The difference compared to a regular P-Bass is pretty small. You just get a feeling of more space for fretting. The fretboard radius is also a bit smaller than on a modern P-Bass. This makes for a very balanced playing feel in my opinion. These differences are all nice touches and make for a slightly different playing feel, but don't make it any harder to play than a regular P-Bass. The sound is absolutely wonderful. The 50s-style pickups have a slightly compressed sound that sound great on its own, plugged directly into a DI box or an interface. I replaced the factory set of strings with .045-.105 LaBella flatwounds which is a perfect fit for this pass. The low-mids are greatly enhanced by putting a set of flats on this bass. It sits beautifully in the mix and is never weak or overpowering – always perfectly balanced. The fit and finish of this bass is great. I'm not one to go looking for faults in the paint or anything like that, but I absolutely have not spotted any quality control issues with my bass. The hardware is absolutely fine and does the job. You don't get a massive bridge or fancy hardware here, because everything is done to vintage specs. You can, of course, modify these parts later on, but I really don't think that's in the spirit of this vintage-focused instrument. If you want to put a more massive bridge on the bass and modify it in other ways, I would choose a Fender Player Series P-Bass instead which is a bit cheaper – you can spend the difference on your mod parts. The bass is surprisingly light. If you have back issues or generally dislike heavy instruments, I would definitely recommend this one! The lack of weight does not impact the sound quality at all. The only drawback is that, in some positions, it can have a little bit of neck dive, not to a point where it really becomes a problem, however. I always wear a strap even when sitting down, and that takes care of the very slight neck dive very easily. One thing to keep in mind is that the hardware, specifically the bridge and trussrod, are truly built to vintage spec. This means that the string height adjusters on the bridge do not have tiny hexagonal screws but small slotted screws instead. You will need a very small slotted screwdriver to access these screws. The trussrod can only be adjusted at the base of the neck which can be annoying. You need to remove the neck in order to adjust the trussrod. Here, again, there is no hexagonal screw but rather a large philipps screw to adjust. Small minus points for these features that could have been left out in favor of more modern solutions. I guess the placement and types of screws used make it more true to the vintage specs, but I would much prefer if they had just chosen the modern versions instead. Overall, this is a very beautiful and great-sounding bass that I can only recommend if you like P-Basses, vintage sound, and flatwounds. The build quality is fantastic and I have no doubt that this bass will stay in great shape for a long, long time.

5 string bass in burley wood. Fit and finish first class. Unbelievably light. Fantastic value for money. Mine played very badly out of the box, with the neck seemingly overdone on the truss rod. Relaxed that a turn, set intonation and saddles and it's pretty good now imo. Think it would benefit from having some frets filed a bit. But all in all it's excellent for the money. I could spend 3-4 times as much for the next up cheap 5 string, but I doubt it would play better and I bet it would be significantly heavier.
My second Glarry bass. the first purchase was a 4 string fretless – flawless instrument. Obviously I was happy with it – I bought another instrument. This 5 string arrived today. I spent a brief time setting up the action, as you would need to do with any new instrument. It was not at all necessary to have a shop do it, as they send the tools you need included with the instrument and it is great for a player to be able to do this themselves- it will make you a more knowledgable player and take additional pride in ownership. But the real reason for leaving this review is to convey just how great the quality is. My wife's initial reaction: "that is beautiful – a work of art!", and she is so correct. Having owned many basses and played for 35+ years, this is as good as any bass I have had. You will see many other reviews state the same thing. The action, the finish, the sound – there is nothing to complain about, even if you took the affordable price out of consideration. Buy one of these now before they figure out they could charge 2-3x as much and I would still recommend buying even at those prices. I am installing a thumb rest on it and using this the next weekend for a songwriter showcase. Can't wait to see what compliments I get on it. Glarry, you guys do a great job and my hat is off to you.
There's nothing really spectacular about this bass, except for possibly the bang for your buck. What you get is a fairly well made solid instrument that does the job without any unnecessary frills! Mine arrived well packaged and in good condition. There are a couple of minor finish blends, but they aren't noticeable if you're more than a foot away. The set up was nearly spot-on, only a few minor adjustments were required. The neck and fretwork were well done. Frets are smooth with no sharp ends. The fretboard is dry, but that is somewhat expected, and not a big deal. I did send the back of the neck with 1000 grit paper so it is now silky smooth and plays great. The pickups sound very good, though the volume puts taper rather abruptly. Overall, this is a good sounding, very playable bass! I am a happy Glarry customer once again!

Should you be in the market for a decent, inexpensive bass, you really should consider this model. Having just arrived home from jamming with six friends, three of whom (including myself) are gigging pros, I felt obligated to congratulate Yamaha Corp for creating such a marvelous bass for the price. I brought my favorite jamming bass–a Squier VM 70's jazz bass–to the jam yet ended up playing this TRBX for four hours. (The guy who owns the studio remarked that he just bought it (used), and he wanted me to try it out.) I'll admit that the controls for the pots are cheap plastic, but everything else about the bass was top notch. It's a passive bass, but the EQ is very responsive with a wide range of voicings from its P/J style pups. Beautifully finished neck, a fretboard with a generous slab of rosewood–it sure looked and felt like rosewood, despite what it's being called in the GC write-up–a really smooth fret-edge finish, solid body wood, but not too heavy. Tuners worked great, and the sunburst stain under the urethane finish was masterfully done. The studio owner bought the bass with flatwound strings, but the pups made them sound clear, with a nice degree of sustain. This TRBX will serve a bassist well as a back-up, but I wouldn't be surprised if some would use it as a main axe (maybe after ditching the plastic knobs for better-quality ones). btw, I had it input to a Tech-21 bass Sansamp (which I use all the time), and into a GK MB210-ii. Even with the Sansamp bypassed, it performed quite well. In summary: Nice surprise!BassesRBetter
After building myself an in home studio, I quickly realized the only thing i was missing was a bass. Swung over to a local store (sorry MF, i was in a rush!) and checked out their large selection. Being that i'm a drummer, I was looking for apparent quality as I didn't much know the specifics or traits that i should be mindful of. The price tag, finish, weight and balance of this thing caught my eye. I toyed around with it for a moment and purchased it about 15 minutes later. I would be lying if i said this was the most played piece in my studio – BUT whenever i do pick it up i am always impressed. Plugging it directly in to a preamp and hitting record with this thing is a dream. You can go from a very washy sound to some solid attack with the knobs. Contrary to one of the previous comments, it does have a volume knob. As i have developed my skills in the studio and on a guitar/bass I have never felt beyond or limited by this guitar. Exceptional piece, I can say with confidence that if bass was my main instrument, i would love to have this guitar as a backup. But for someone like me?…..perfect.Chris
