I've wanted a solid all koa for a long time; the K24 BE is my dream but wow the cost. So when Taylor announced this beast I refreshed the GC stock lists until I found one local. Wasn't even out of the box so an employee brought it out…what a beauty! High and tight (new koa) but full of potential. It came with Elixir PB lights; not my style I swapped for Martin Retro MM13 monel. Immediate improvement in clarity and less jangliness. I advise at least moving to medium *something* at least if you find the highs too jangly anyway. Koa can take a LONG time to open. I knew that beforehand but…I am not a patient man. I got a Tonerite believing it would be effective on this guitar at least. Boy I was right…it's only been 48 hours on and every time I pull it out to play the bass and resonance are notably better, so strong now! Already my favorite of my guitars and what time will bring is so exciting. If you like the sound of koa you will LOVE this guitar. But, it might take some good play time to get what it can really do.Jethro
I go to the local Tucson Orange Grove Guitar Center frequently and just enjoy trying a lot of different instruments. I'm a musician of 32+ years, did some professional gigs and I record from home often. I didn't intend to buy this but Evan there just had to "ruin my day" as he so eloquently put it (sarcasm of course). I've been a fan of Taylor for years but never pulled the trigger on buying one, just a bucket list item. Well, today was the day – this instrument is literally the best acoustic guitar I've ever played. I've played the 916CE for hours…this thing blows it away. The frequency response through the entire note range can't be much better. The action is superb, very little effort to make booming bass tones, full chords, or rip scales like it's nothing. The pickups and EQ are as smooth as silk and every good sound you want to come through an amplifier is there, all bad sounds are muted very well. But here's the kicker…you really don't need the amp. It is a true acoustic performance concert guitar and the Koa wood takes the response and sustain to a new level I've never experienced. I'm not a luthier by any means, but the quality of the wood seems on the back, neck, frets, ebony fret board, mahogany neck, bridge, pick guard, tuners, neck, and top nut, is as good as it gets. Koa is such a rich and incredibly gorgeous wood, and the sound just matches every bit of what it can do. I've played literally over 1000 guitars over my life, this one is one of the best and I bought it :).Mike

I bought this guitar to check out a budget friendly offering from Yamaha. I have to say I was not disappointed! Excellent tone and volume, the top really resonates. The guitar was really well setup right out of the box. It needed about 3/4 of a clockwise truss rod adjustment, no prob. Other than that it didn't need any fret dressing whatsoever. That's really impressive for a Chinese guitar. Heck even one of my Mexican Martins needed fret dressing out of the box! Also intonation was spot on and this also is important in your guitar. Very impressed with this guitar, intermediate/advanced feel but priced at a beginner budget. You won't regret picking one up, I assure you!Big Bone Murphy
There is a point of quality when an instrument reaches when it stops being seen as "better or worse" but rather just a different flavor. This Yamaha has reached that point. You can play it alongside a guitar costing 5x more and it stands up well. Yamaha is also one of those rare companies with a long history of top quality across all kinds of products, and guitars are an area Yamaha knows well. This is just a beautiful guitar through and throughout. You can get beautiful uncompromisingly great studio recordings with this guitar. I've owned many acoustics over the years, MANY, and this Yamaha is one of the best sounding I've ever owned. Went to GC just to check out a few lower end acoustics to pick up for jamming on, and tried almost every one in the room. Picked this one up last just before I was ready to leave, and immediately was blown away by the sound and playability, brought a couple friends to listen and tell me which one they thought sounded the best, and hands down this won over all of them. It has the tone and warmth of a Martin D34, which I have owned a few, and it plays like a dream. The neck is so sliky smooth, easy to fly up and down with no effort. It has amazing sustain and beautiful tone, I fell in love with it and just couldn't put it down. I didn't expect a guitar of this price range to sound as good as it does, got it home and I couldn't put it down. Played for 4 hours straight, and even after trying to put it down to go to bed at 1am I found myself playing a for a few more minutes before I could actually go to sleep. Love this Yamaha more than any guitar I've bought in the last decade. The best thing about it is, It gave me the desire to pick up playing guitar again, after hardly touching any of my other guitars for almost a year it's the one I want to play more than all of them. For what it is – a very cheap, small, travel guitar, this is great. You'll need a strap as it doesn't sit high enough on your leg to be comfortable to play. Also – the action was high, but a bit of adjusting with a belt sander on the saddle and that came down well. The scale length is short, but plays OK – takes a bit of getting used to from my full-sized acoustics. Putting a capo on it and making chords further up the neck is tight, but OK. Sound is very good for a travel guitar of this size. This would be a great kids guitar or even for an adult beginner. I did put 11s on it – sounds a bit weaker, but is fine, and that's what I use on my other acoustics. I had a washburn rover before – this is better, though not as small, but worth the extra size, I think. I have a GS Mini, which is much better, but a good bit larger, and much more expensive. Tuner works good, haven't tried plugging it in yet. Bought this for the boat – seems pretty sturdy.Alexander
I bought this guitar because I have chronic pain and am a small lady and found that even smaller acoustic guitars are too big and bulky and unplayable. I like to play high up on the neck so wanted a cutaway and occasionally perform so having an electro-acoustic version means it ticks all the boxes. When play acoustically it does sound really tinny, there's not getting away from that. It also tends to be unbalanced toward the neck end, so I need a strap to keep it in place. But it is much more playable for practice and I am almost managing to play bar chords again. Not chance on a normal size guitar. It has a full fret board just smaller but not too small.Michelle S.
I ordered this for my pastors wife who wanted to learn a new instrument. She is tiny ( less that 5 ' tall) and a full size guitar would not fit her body type. I was shocked when the guitar came in. The photos on line do not do the finish justice. I was even more shocked when I played it. Most student guitars in this price point have horrible action. The set up on this from the factory was great. It was very easy to play and the sound was extremely good for a thin body acoustic . Then we plugged it in. I could not believe the sound quality of the electronics in this guitar. On Sunday, I pulled out after church and let the music team take turns with it. Everyone that played it raved about every aspect of this little guitar. The instrument also came with a quality gig bag. The material was thick, padding was good, the zippers and hardware appeared to by sturdy. Even more importantly, she loved the guitar. I highly recommend that you consider this one for your beginner or intermediate guitar student. Both Children and small adults should be pleased with this one.Greg H.

I had this on my wish list for a couple of years and after finally getting to try it out at my local Sam Ash, it did not disappoint. Online reviews were consistently good with a few mentions of the strings being coated and how it gave an unusual feel and sound. According to the Michael Kelly website, the strings are D'Addario EXP16 Coated Phosphor Bronze, Light, 12-53, so they shouldn't be some off the wall knock offs but my experience over the last few weeks has been that after a few minutes of playing, the tips of my fingers on my fret hand and the palm of my strumming hand turned black. I've never had this happen on any other guitars I have. I tried rotating after 15 minutes between my Jackson, my Strat, my Martin Backpacker and then my Michael Kelly and, every time, after a few minutes of playing the Forte Port, my fingers turned black. I've played a lot of guitars since the 80's (not professionally) and this is a new one on me. Obviously, the strings can be changed but I feel it is worth mentioning because for someone's first guitar, it may be off putting if they are unaware. If I can edit a review, I'll try to add a pic of my fingers (there's no way to make that sound right…) when I get time. That's my two cents…Sean
Overall: I was reluctant to buy this Michael Kelly. I like to try it before I buy it . With that being said , The guitar come it flawless. It was packaged very good . I played for about an hour after opening the box. The action is spot on. It plays and feels more like an electric guitar. Hammer on pull offs pitch bends are perfect. The sustain goes on forever. The neck feels a touch wider than my Martin, but that's a good thing for me. There are no fret buzzes at. It's vert light and comfortable , light weight is a must , I have had shoulder surgery 3 times. The balance and weight are near perfect . Michael Kelly may not have the prestige of Martin. Gibson and such , but as far as the sound and quality build , it simply can not be beat in this price range.Mark
I was looking for an acoustic electric guitar to do some home recording with. I already own 2 dreadnaughts so I was looking for a concert style body. I also wanted something other than a spruce top guitar, as that is what my other two acoustics are made from. I happened across this Michael Kelly model and did a lot of research to see if it would fit my needs. It looked and sounded great. The price was amazing. I was thinking that it was almost too good to be true. I ordered it from AMS and it got to me in 5 days. It's all I had hoped for. Great sound, beautiful guitar, and it was set up well. Amazing guitar! 6 years after buying it and I'm still blown away with how it sounds. Very loud guitar, bright sound but produces a solid bass. Many people who own higher Taylor models like the 714 tell me that they can hardly tell the difference in sound between mine and theirs. It also feels great to play, although it may need some neck adjustment/setup out of the box to improve the action, but that's pretty normal. The 314ce is an excellent offering from Taylor guitars. The combination of spruce with Sapele is a slight variation on a popular tonewood combination. Sapele is similar to mahogany in tone, but not quite as deep. Paired together, these woods provide a very balanced tone which complements this guitars' versatility. The Grand Auditorium body style revolutionized the way guitars were being made, and quickly became one of Taylors' top selling shapes. This is a really nice guitar. Just got back into playing acoustically and find this Taylor to sound great – nice mids and highs, unlike another high end guitar that are really bottom heavy (in my humble opinion). This guitar plays extremely well, perfect width on the neck and action is great. Makes finger picking quite easy and no adjustments were necessary. I had some trouble finding the right strings when it came time to replace the ones that came on it from the factory. I recommend D'Addario EJ40 Silk & Steel Folk Guitar Strings 11-47. They keep the warmth of the original sound and have a great feel. I tried others like Martin Phosphor Bronze and they were too brassy/tinny on this guitar.k8thnote
Really nice guitar, aside from the price. Considering price, this is a great value. This small body Guitar fits Even my tall daughter and tall son, and I notice that friends who come over choose this guitar over others to just sit down and play with or without amp. Sounds really nice along with the piano also. I took this off of a local guitar store wall display, fell in love and purchased on the spot. Now, I do own more expensive guitars, but that doesn't mean lower cost guitars are lower quality. This Is a Well Built Guitar. The tone is rich. Tuning with the built in tuner is pretty darn accurate, Great playability and beautiful Finish. The D'addario EXP strings are a perfect match. There is a buzzing of the third string around the 2nd fret and 4th string open. I have had the action tonal balance adjusted and has gotten better, but not completely eliminated which has caused me to approach playing this guitar a little differently. My first guitar was a Yamaha and I have come back to them after playing approx. 40 years now. I would highly recommend this guitar.billr920

Beautiful taylor 312ce acoustic/electric in excellent condition. it was my #1 acoustic until i got my new taylor. i played it a lot, and took very good care of it. it sounds great, plays beautifully and comes with the original hardshell case. it has a few very small dings (one on the soundboard, one on the back of the neck and a chip in the bottom binding – see photos), so it's not in mint condition, but i rate it excellent overall. frets are like new, fretboard is well-maintained. electronics work great. this guitar is excellent for playing out at writers rounds, open mics, duos and bands. it's clear, balanced tone really comes across acoustically and through the pa. the body shape and size are very comfortable, both sitting and standing. i'd like it to go to a player who appreciates taylors and will play it a lot!

I have been wanting to get my own Taylor GS Mini since I first heard one, and when I saw the rosewood back and sides model, I knew I had to act. It wasn't in the budget at the time, but I was so anxious to have one that I called AMS, and man, am I glad I did! My sales associate Enrique made it SO easy for me to obtain this lovely instrument that I simply had to do it. First, the guitar itself: I've never owned a parlor guitar before, and wasn't exactly sure it would be suitable sonically, but man, the sound of this instrument just Blows.My.Mind! Every note of every string rings out as well as or better than any acoustic I've ever played, including several guitars costing three and four times as much. And the tone is simply astounding: huge,rich, bell-like clarity up and down the entire sonic spectrum, and the sustain is simply unbelievable. The setup was very much to my liking and suits my playing style perfectly, and the craftsmanship is second to none. I waited for several weeks before writing this because I wanted to play it for awhile before giving my opinion, and I love it more each and every time I pick it up. I'm not a luthier, but I am a finish carpenter with considerable woodworking experience, having worked in wood for more than forty years now, and I have yet to spot a single flaw anywhere on this guitar. Not only that, but every time I pick it up, I end up playing for much longer than I had intended, so it's good that I am retired! It's just such a joy to play that it really will become a time thief if you're not careful, but that's the kind of problem I think we all want in our gear. I own nine other guitars, mostly electrics, but this has become my go-to baby, because of its breathtaking tone and articulation. I just can't say enough about how glad I am to've made this purchase, and if you are thinking about getting one, think no more! I’ve been playing a Taylor 310 for 25 years and was looking for something smaller and lighter to transport. Having read a lot of reviews and listened to the videos I thought I would try the GS Mini Koa and see what all the fuzz was about. This guitar sounds amazing! The Koa gives it a depth AND sparkle that you don’t expect from a small guitar. I keep asking myself does it lack depth compared to my dreadnought, technically it does but actually I don’t miss it because the sound is so full. The volume too is quite exceptional, I tend to strum a lot with a pick and don’t mind digging in hard….. this guitar just sings under those circumstances. It get’s louder and louder without noticeably going out of tune. At the other end there is such clarity and sustain that quiet finger picking also sounds great. You can easily hear a single note melody within a chord. Are there any downsides? Well if you have big hands then the reduced neck length may feel too cramped…. For me this is actually more comfortable than a full size neck but you wouldn’t want it any smaller. In summary I’m blown away, just amazing.David
Wow… what a stunner! Opening the case for the first time was quite an experience. This is a seriously beautiful guitar with beautiful craftsmanship. As a beginner with small hands (even for a lady) I have found acoustic guitars in the past to be very uncomfortable to play, the size of the body, the width of the neck, the high action, and after struggling with a Lorenzo Flame Series for the past year I decided enough was enough, electrics aren't almost impossible to play so why should I have to struggle with acoustic? I did some research and everything was pointing me towards the Taylor GS Mini-E series. Holding this guitar in my hands for the first time felt like a revelation. It felt like Taylor had made a guitar specifically for me – wearing a strap the body fits easily under my arm and my fingers just know exactly where they're meant to go. The sound of the guitar is rich and vibrant with a bright top tone – quite a feat in a parlour size guitar. After watching reviews it seems that this is due to the Koa body. The guitar also comes with soft, well-padded case that feels like it'll protect well from bumps and bruises whilst travelling. It has some nice shoulder straps so it feels like you're wearing a large (but light!) backpack. The best thing about this guitar though is that it's such a joy to hold and play that I can't put it down; my playing ability has increased so much in the past few weeks since buying it. As a beginner I absolutely recommend this guitar as an introduction to acoustic guitars. If you're a beginner and you've been playing an electric for while but want to get into playing acoustic, try out a Taylor GS Mini-e – it might be the one for you.Laura K.

I bought this guitar online with high hopes, but got a seemingly used piece in which the knobs that tune the guitar were turning copperish, as if discoloured. Definitely got a used piece, despite paying full price for a BRAND NEW product. Very unacceptable practice by best buy. And on top of it, they expect me to go through the hassle of returning the product through shipping such a large item back to them and then get a new one. I bought this as a gift for someone, I don't have the time to keep returning and waiting for new pieces, which will probably also be used. Disappointed, never again. If you are older when you start playing the guitar, you might not make it to Eric Clapton levels of talent. That’s okay as he probably had one in utero. Sometimes I sit back in awe of him or Jimmy Page, and hear the notes and chords moving at a riveting speed. Both their hand eye coordination/hands, and mathematic abilities must be off the charts. They are the guitar heroes. Yet I’ve been quite happy with the Takamine Jasmine acoustic, which I bought for around $100. The sound quality for its price is impressive. A couple of friends of mine whom play in a band, believe it’s better than Yamahas that cost $50 to $100 more. I’ll trust their ears, as they have experience and talent. My neighbors are glad I got the acoustic, and with practice I’ve been learning some basic songs. It has been time consuming, frustrating, and yet so rewarding. Strings are easy to replace or tune on this, and it’s forgiving nature has helped with my self esteem. I won’t always hit the six strings as I’m supposed to, or mess up on the frets, but I’m pleased with the purchase of this.michael.r
For a lower end guitar, I’m overall impressed. You really aren’t going to get good quality without going a few hundred more, but for the beginner / someone who plays a little as a hobby, this is better than some of the cheaper priced ones. Found this Special Edition in Guitar Center when I had to return a faulty Washburn. Don't let the all solid wood purists convince you that anything not all solid isn't worth it. My answer is, it depends. Nowadays, SOME laminate guitars are up there with all solid guitars. Type of construction and wood type/quality matters more than solid vs not solid imo. This thing has a Solid Koa top (all satin which I like better than high gloss), that matters most and it sounds amazing. The layered back and sides for me ensures that when I'm traveling with it and playing around, I will not have to worry as much about it getting damaged as easily. Quick note, I did upgrade the strap button (Chrome to Gold), bridgepins (plastic to ebony with pearl inlay), and tuners (chrome Taylor tuners to gold Gotoh tuners). My suggestion, IF you can find it at a local Guitar Center then definitely pick it up and play it. You may not be able to put it down.Ty, B

I was looking for a contrast from my very bright and loud Ovation, and this has a sweet buttery tone that is beautiful. I do find it to be much quieter than my other guitars, but it sounds good plugged and unplugged. If you have not seen one in person, it is even better looking than the pictures – just a gorgeous finish. The neck is very comfortable and easy to play, and the size fits nicely. I am mostly loving it but don't want to give it 5 stars for two reasons: First – I am having a heck of a time keeping it in tune. I've been playing it almost every day for almost 6 weeks now, I had a gig Friday night where I had to re-tune 3 times during the night The strings should be plenty broke in by this point. Possibly just more sensitive to environment/temperature then I'm used to, but I'm not sure, the tuners etc. all look to be high quality and setup correctly. Second, the hard case – while it looks nice and provides great protection, it weighs about a thousand pounds and I've already had to hammer the nails back in on the hinges.Dave

When I played this at my local Guitar Center. my wife said 'that is amazing. ' She does not impress easily. The tone was angelic, and the playability first rate. I went from ' I want a rosewood dreadnought' to 'this is the one.' The included case is one of the best I have seen. I have played it with amd without usng the built in ES2 system. Works either way. You do give up sone volume versus a dreadnought shape, but you get a way better neck and something special, that will only sound better as it ages. Most of the guitars I had in mind otiginally cost two or three times what this Taylor sells for. I recommend playing the one you buy- go to a store. The two examples Guitar Center had sounded quite different. I obviously bought the better sounding one. While the high gloss example of this model do look sensational, I am good with the satin finish- looks mote natural to me amd feels much better in your hands. Detailed sound analysis: Bass is stronger than expected for the guitar shape. Not as even as some guitars, scooped sound profile. Mids and treble are sweet. Koa sounds warmer over time, but this guitar has a great start in that direction. Sustain is there. Sounds good played soft to medium- if you want to thrash this is not your guitar. Better on fingerstyle then pick. But fine with a pick if you use the right one. The expensive but worth it Elixir strings it comes with are perfect. Thank you Taylor. This same investment in any other new guitar will not get you anything in this league. Overall: All I can say is I am really glad I bought this guitar. I am not going to go into a three page novel reviewing it. I will say this is my second Taylor. My first is a 416ce-R….I purchased a couple of years ago which I love playing, and enjoy thoroughly. That being said I love this GS Mahogany Mini more. For a fraction of the cost you have an awesome guitar here that plays incredibly. Bought a SKB hard case to protect it. The case that came with it is nice, but not for air travel. I just can't stop playing this mini. Great sound, playability, quality and beautiful. Glad I bought this guitar. No regrets!
This guitar is warm and rich sounding. The playability is incredible and feels amazing in the hands. It looks like it is worth more than what it is. Taylor took the care and attention to this line of guitars as it does with its higher end models. I used to have a 614ce and this mini is on par with the way it feels. Obviously not as loud as the 614ce or as pretty, but the care in craftsmanship is the same. Not that the guitar is pretty though. I love this guitar and could not put it down. Sweetwater also did an excellent job on inspecting and packaging this guitar to make sure it sounds perfect when it arrives in my hands.

The two examples Guitar Center had sounded quite different. I obviously bought the better sounding one. While the high gloss example of this model do look sensational, I am good with the satin finish- looks mote natural to me amd feels much better in your hands. Detailed sound analysis: Bass is stronger than expected for the guitar shape. Not as even as some guitars, scooped sound profile. Mids and treble are sweet. Koa sounds warmer over time, but this guitar has a great start in that direction. Sustain is there. Sounds good played soft to medium- if you want to thrash this is not your guitar. Better on fingerstyle then pick. But fine with a pick if you use the right one. The expensive but worth it Elixir strings it comes with are perfect. Thank you Taylor. This same investment in any other new guitar will not get you anything in this league. I use the guitar mainly for practice. Currently I do not have a band or know any people personally to have jam sessions with but I truly cannot wait to play in a group or a band. The guitar overall sounds amazing with pretty bright tones. This guitar is great for fingerpicking style rather than strumming but it still sounds great for strumming. The pickups are fantastic on this guitar and have a great sounds connected to an amp as well. I simply love this guitar and would highly recommend for any chords that may require "thumb-overs" the neck feels nice and is really easy to wrap your hand around. There’s a lot of products, items, tangible man made things in this world, and most things I would give a 4 star rating TOPS! But this guitar? This damn Taylor 214ce guitar? Bro, it’s a no brainer. 5 stars all day through and through with no hesitation. Let me just say, if you are even remotely considering buying this guitar, I will tell you as a proud owner, just buy it and rip the band-aid. I promise you it will be 100% worth it and you will thank me later. This is my first Taylor guitar and what a guitar it is. The set up was to the tee right out of the box. A quick tune up and it was ready to play. The action is totally amazing and so easy to play whether regular or bar chords. As far as lead runs it is amazing and the tone and projection are out of this world especially for a guitar in this price range. I have a Martin, Guild, Fender,Luna,Briarwood acoustic electric guitars and this is my new favorite. Acoustic guitars all have their own special voice, some low and some high but the Taylor's is just about in the middle which is perfect for most of the music that I play. My brothers I jam with all want to take turns playing this guitar and have decided to invest in their own. Whether this is your first guitar or an addition to your collection, you can't go wrong . Overall: So, I have owned this guitar for several months now. It is without a doubt a very good sounding guitar, it's up there with my Gibson's and Martins. Strumming or finger picking it just sounds amazing. I did not love the string spacing, so I replaced the nut with a bit wider spacing for my style of playing. The whole point about me taking the plunge on this guitar was that it was all solid woods, ebony fingerboard and bridge, and one of Yamahas absolute best acoustics available. I have no regrets buying this guitar at all. My friends are amazed at the beauty and sound of this very well-built guitar. The electronics do a good job plugged into the PA for playing live, and it will amaze you how good it sounds unplugged all by itself. I never thought I would buy anything but Martin or Gibson's…. this changed my mind completely. if you're thinking about one of these just buy one!! My honest opinion is the price will go up on these as the solid woods and craftsmanship are stunning.Michael
I’ve had my A3M for three years now. I still look at mahogany wood grain in awe. This guitar has a nice rounded tone that can compete with Taylor and Martin guitars made from mahogany. Plugged into an acoustic amp sounds even better. I notice the price point has increased $100 (not sure of due to inflation) which shows that it is a respected instrument. I spent months spinning around for a acoustic guitar and I was truly pleased with the Yamaha A3M. I think it can keep up with Martin and Taylor on stage as a reliable gig machine.bryan nuñez
Had my Yamaha Fg140 1972 red label stolen. Bought this guitar as a lower price replacement. It has the Yamaha sound I was looking for. Very close to my vintage one. It lacks the depth of the original. With laminated back and sides,I was expecting this. I'd say it gets me 90 % there. Playability is excellent. Nice low action without buzz. This gives me a good guitar while I save for a better one. The fit and finish is excellent. No blems or flaws. Nice tuner, haven't tried the pickup yet. I hope this is a valuable review to someone looking at this guitar.

I typically play steel string acoustics. I wanted a quality nylon string guitar without the wide flat neck of a standard classical guitar. This is it. Extremely well made with quality woods (no laminates) that has a great sound (both amplified and unplugged). It does not have a large body and projection is somewhat limited when playing unplugged but has incredible sound both amplified and not amplified. Can be played quietly when everyone else has gone to sleep, or can flood the house with music if they're awake. The action and intonation on this guitar was fabulous right out of the box and I didn't have to make any setup adjustments. This is an awesome guitar and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nylon string acoustic.John
In 1981 I had three guitars, two of them acoustics, and one of those was an Ovation Country Artist–a nylon-string guitar with a 14 fret, comparatively narrow neck. It was my first good guitar, but when I left for grad school, I kept only a Martin OO-18, and sold the Ovation. In the 30 years since, I have been trying to find a replacement, I tried various Ibanez and Yamaha guitars, but they didn't have what it took. Then, a couple of months ago, needing a brain break, I left work and took myself to the acoustic room at Sam Ash. There was another guy in there playing, so I looked for a quiet instrument, and took this one down off the wall. Immediately, I knew that it was special. The clarity of the tone, and the richness of the bass, it was all there. The other guy liked the sound too, and soon we were jamming and telling stories. Both of us tried other neoclassical guitars, and agreed that this one was best. I loved the guitar at first note, but when I looked at the price tag, I knew I could never own it. So I bought (online) a similar guitar, but it lacked the feel and sound of this one. My wife heard me playing, asked what I thought about the similar guitar I'd bought, and I explained that it wasn't the same. Then she told me to buy this one. So I did, And I have been playing it daily since then. The OO-18 is still with me and still gets some time, but right now my fingers itch to play and hear this one. Did it replace my long-gone Country Artist? Not exactly–this Takamine is significantly superiod to the Country Artist in all respects. Even if I don't play it plugged in 🙂Andy M_S

Very nice guitar … However , There are no tuning instructions or string height instructions . And you may find the the standard "E" tuning is to high . And will stress the neck joint . Which is why many of Older Martin Guitars require a Neck Reset . And is why the Martin players . Most often recommend "D" tuning . CMNchris
This is my third Martin although mine is slightly different in that it is a 000-28 EC Eric Clapton version. In 1972 I bought my first one, a D-35, then acquired a D35-12.later. I played the D-35 exclusively for many years professionally along the way acquiring a beautiful custom hand built guitar, Bertoncini, but I always wanted a smaller body that I thought would be better for finger picking and wow does the 000-28 meet that! I have become so addicted to it I play it almost exclusively. Not only is it wonderful for finger picking it is wonderful for flat picking too. The action is set perfectly. I love the feel of the smaller body size, it cradles into your arms perfectly. The neck on mine has a slight "V" shape which is terrific with a slightly wider nut which really enhances the finger picking style greatly. It's no wonder it is Clapton's favorite acoustic. The 000-28 predates the Dreadnoughts and was and is more the Martin "Classic" and for a good reason, it is a very well balanced guitar tone-wise not overly boomy which can interfere with the bass if you're playing in a band and the tone is dead accurate all the way up the neck so an E played open is in tune with an E played up the neck. So many guitar makers miss that by a mile. I love this thing so much my only regret is the poor D-35 sits in the case too much! The 000-28 has a signature tone to it that you can not mistake for a Taylor or something else – this is a true classic. Now something else I want to add about a Martin and their service. After I bought the D-35 years ago the neck moved just slightly and after 30 years of playing the plastic binding began to separate. When the wind knocked it over on its stand on a break I finally sent it back again for repairs. It came back in PRISTINE condition! The tone was not hurt in the least by the necessity of refinishing it and it plays beautifully – all no cost to me! Martin is fantastic. The 35 is wonderful but I love the 000-28 – my Go To!Rick
Back in 2008, I bought my dream guitar, a Martin HD-28. In the last 12 years it has been my baby. However, I only play for myself at home. Lately, I had been reconsidering it's large size and loud volume, and I started trying some smaller guitars. I decided to sell my dreadnaught, and used the proceeds to buy this 000-28 that was redesigned in 2018. Let me say that it is amazing. While the HD-28 had a beautiful deep bass-like response, this 000-28 is more shimmering and a chiming sound. It is extremely comfortable, and the fretboard seems a bit wider than my HD-28, which makes it very comfortable. I was concerned about how the aging toner would look, but it turns out looking very warm and buttery, and the top color will definitely age more on its own. I was also worried that it wouldn't be good for strumming, due to the shorter scale length. But this guitar sounds just as good strumming as well as finger picking. I've never tried an OM-28, but I can say that this 000-28 is also a great chord strumming guitar. This is a very intimate and lovely guitar, and I don't know if it will ever leave my house. If I were playing gigs or in a band, I would probably prefer a dread size, but this is perfect for my personal use at home. Also, the scalloped bracing seems to have been a massive improvement. I imagine this is very close to the Clapton model now, in terms of sound.Chachi

I have had the guitar for a few days now and have been thoroughly enjoying it. I played one at the NAMM 2020 and I was immediately hooked. Now that I have been able to play for a few days in a quiet environment I can say the 324 builder's edition is truly AWESOME. This guitar excels in low tunings, e.g. open C, C+2 (first string tuned to D), or Cm (1st string tuned to Eb)–it has this dark and intriguing voice from the bass strings and clear, liquid treble. When you fingerpick the sound is sweet and clear; and when you strum, the sound is smooth and rounded. I have had several Taylors (714ce, 514ce, 324e, GS Cedar/Rosewood, and a 314 Ltd), and this one is unique–it sings differently from your normal spruce or cedar top guitars. I know the mahogany is supposed to smooth things out but I suspect it has a lot to do with the combination of the back and side urban ash. The look, what can I tell ya, is simple and elegant at the same time. Try playing one. Just be prepared that you may want one.JB
I was excited to get this guitar. Mahogany top plus new urban ash as a builder's edition. I was stoked. The builder's edition finishing and beveled arm rest, cut away, and edges was so, so comfortable and the finish was amazing. I wanted so badly to love this guitar. But the tone was just not what I was hoping for. Mahogany is usually warmer in tone to me than spruce. Maybe I got a funky specific guitar, but I wasn't a fan of the Urban Ash. I finger picked, flat picked, chorded with rhythm, and ran riffs. I couldn't hear the high end for the bass which is so much opposite from any other Taylor I have heard. I'm not a huge fan of the typical brightness of Taylor's where the high end drowns out the bass. I took this back and traded it in for the standard 324ce mahogany top with Blackwood back and sides and THAT guitar is where it is at! Wonderful balance of tones and the warmth you would expect from mahogany. I do like the v-brace sustain and intonation. That was great on the builder's edition as well. Like I said, maybe I just got a funky example of the builder's edition or maybe the tone just wasn't for me. If you're in love with Taylor's, maybe it will be great for your collection. I have various high end Martin's, Breedloves, and Gibson's, but I was looking for a great mahogany guitar to add to my collection. The standard 324ce met that and actually exceeded what I wanted.CCC
After playing for over 20 years, hearing hundreds of guitars…you tend to not be blown away when picking one up for the first time. This has happened 3 times in my own playing journey, and the third time was picking this guitar up for the first time. I couldn't put it down. I had shown up to demo a few different Taylors (and a Martin or two) and this was not on the list being considered. After playing a few Grand Concert style bodied guitars (and much preferring it in recent years), I was hesitant to pick up a Grand Auditorium body guitar. They've never been quite comfortable for me to play, and this is a major exception to the rule. Comfort here is top tier, a whole other level. The beveled arm rest, chamfered edges, and beveled cut away should be on every acoustic guitar. It creates a "slim" feeling while maintaining the full body size and scale length. Incredible, to say the least. The tone that pours out, the dynamic ability to play loud and immediately transition to softer, tactful playing…it's honestly mind blowing. This guitar sits right in between the "midrange" that Mahogany is known for and the "brilliant highs with deep base" that a combo of Spruce and Rosewood typically brings. The pairing of Mahogany on the top, with the Urban Ash sides brings the best of it all. Warm tone, but shining top end with great low end delivery. You don't miss a thing when it comes to sustain either, the notes can ring for what seems like 10 times longer than it should. The clarity within the decay is unreal. The fretboard and neck? Smooth, comfortable, wonderfully shaped. The feel of the satin finish? Divine. The Gotoh tuners? Insanely accurate and fine in rotation. The setup out of the box? Literally, perfect.
