Bought the Polytune 3 to replace the Polytune 2 on my board because I wanted the buffer without having to use a separate buffer pedal. First thing I noticed out of the box was that the Polytune 3's screen is only 60-70% as bright as the Polytune 2. Returned it and got a replacement; same thing. I spoke to TC Electronic and they confirmed that this is indeed a design change in the Polytune 3 because some people were complaining that the 2 was too bright (wow, I guess a lot of complaining people don't do outdoor gigs). Go figure. At all levels of the built in light sensor, the 3 is dimmer than the 2, including outside full brightness. Boo. This is a deal breaker for me as the Polytune 2's screen & brightness were perfect. The new one is too dim and hard to see from eye level, and other LED's on my board are actually brighter than the Polytune 3's display, which is distracting. So so disappointing as this could have been perfect. Such a puzzling decision on the part of TC Electronic. A much better solution would have been to make the brightness switchable between two modes if that really was an issue. I mean really: who wants a dimmer, harder to see screen? Especially outside in sunlight. They took one of the industry standard tuners and upgraded it with a switchable buffer, but downgraded it because the screen is dim. Going back to my Polytune 2 with separate buffer pedal.Tommy

Not sure if it will take a 9v battery because a specific hex wrench is necessary to open the unit. It would be helpful to have this information on a retailer's website to alert potential buyers.Steve
Does everything it says it does. I only have two complaints and two suggestion: 1) Tuning in poly mode seems to have you tune everything slightly sharp. I tuned all strings in poly first and then when switching to a single string to fine tune, ever single was string was just a hair sharp. I don't know if poly mode is accurate and single string mode is flat or vice versa, but that's a minor gripe. You can use poly mode to get close and single string mode to get every string perfect. 2) There is no way to "lock" the pedal in one mode or the other. You strum all strings for poly mode or one string for the other mode and the pedal automatically switches between modes. The problem is that you have to be sure ALL of the other strings are muted/completely silent to keep the pedal in single string mode. If you even accidentally bump another string while trying to tune a single string, the pedal will switch back to poly mode. It would be nice if there was a way to keep the pedal in one mode or the other to avoid inadvertently switching back and forth. Second suggestion, I wish there was a way to dim the display. When they say this pedal has an ultra-bright LED display, they mean it has an ULTRA-bright LED display. You could probably tune your guitar in low earth orbit with this pedal. That's fine in bright lighting or daylight, but at night or on a darkened stage, something that bright tends to affect my vision for a few minutes. Other than that, I found the pedal intuitive and easy to use. The only thing I had to refer to the manual for was to find out how to switch between alternate tunings. There is a TINY little button near the input jack and I missed it when just holding the pedal and giving it a quick once over. The pedal does not affect your tone in any noticeable way, even when you have your volume way up. This is an amazing tuner that does what it's supposed to with no issues. I would recommend this over a standard guitar/bass tuner since it can detect pitches that fall outside the range of standard tuning since it is chromatic, and that means it suits alternate tunings. The flip out stand on the back is also a great feature. I have the tuner propped up on top of my amp and it looks as great as it functions. Having an input/output makes it even more versatile since you can leave it plugged in to the amp all the time and not worry since it has bypass which means sound passes through even when the tuner is off. And if you have an acoustic guitar? No problem, this tuner also has a built-in microphone. The only downside is that is has no illuminated screen. Unfortunately is seems Korg does not offer an illuminated version of this model, but you really can't complain as this is one of the best tuners you can get at this price point. This is a good tuner for 6 string guitars, 7 string guitars, and basses, provided that they are in standard tuning. However, if you use alternate tuning, it may confuse one for the other. When I tuned my 6 string electric down to C#, the tuner kept trying to find the 7 string low 'b', making it useless. Having been a big fan of the Snark tuners for years, it was a big disappointment to find that it had to be removed from my new guitar in order to put it in its case. This little widget has really saved the day! Because of its ultra-small body, somewhat limited positioning ability and ratchet clamp design, there's only a couple of places this tuner can really mount on the headstock of a Gibson es339 style guitar, but it mounts securely and is easily operated and that is a great thing! Those two positions, by the way, are on either side of the headstock, between the nut and closest tuner key and even then the bulk of the truss rod cover almost makes that not work. But the display rotates a full 360 degrees horizontally, so it's easy to position it for easy reading once in place. As much as I am thrilled to be able to keep a tuner on the headstock while the guitar is in its case again, that's not to say this tuner couldn't benefit from some changes, however. 1- the battery is a pain to remove, 2- the display is almost too small and information is cramped and not very crisp, 3- the ratchet clamp, although secure enough for my needs, might not be in some positions and with more active players. Two BIG Love/Hate issues I have with the Micro Tuner and changes I would make, if it were up to me would be: 1- make the display about 1/4" bigger all the way around. It's compact design makes it both great and troublesome. Just a little bit larger and text could be more readable. 2- Including a metronome is GREAT and its display works a lot better for me than the little beating heart of the Snark, but why wasn't the metronome function button made to be a TAP tempo button? The arrow buttons already default as calibration adjustments for the center reference pitch. The metronome button could have just been made to override the pitch calibration function, instead of to choose between functions. A metronome-on/tap tempo button would just be the icing on the cake here (in my opinion). Overall, great tuner – responsive, accurate, compact and appears to be of good build quality. This little tuner is really easy to use and discrete in appearance. I'm by no means a professional musician but getting my guitar and ukulele in tune is important to me. This is the second one which I purchased to put it on my electric guitar, couse I was very satisfied with the first one, wich is perfectly "on duty" on my other acoustic guitar. Bought the Polytune 3 to replace the Polytune 2 on my board because I wanted the buffer without having to use a separate buffer pedal. First thing I noticed out of the box was that the Polytune 3's screen is only 60-70% as bright as the Polytune 2. Returned it and got a replacement; same thing. I spoke to TC Electronic and they confirmed that this is indeed a design change in the Polytune 3 because some people were complaining that the 2 was too bright (wow, I guess a lot of complaining people don't do outdoor gigs). Go figure. At all levels of the built in light sensor, the 3 is dimmer than the 2, including outside full brightness. Boo. This is a deal breaker for me as the Polytune 2's screen & brightness were perfect. The new one is too dim and hard to see from eye level, and other LED's on my board are actually brighter than the Polytune 3's display, which is distracting. So so disappointing as this could have been perfect. Such a puzzling decision on the part of TC Electronic. A much better solution would have been to make the brightness switchable between two modes if that really was an issue. I mean really: who wants a dimmer, harder to see screen? Especially outside in sunlight. They took one of the industry standard tuners and upgraded it with a switchable buffer, but downgraded it because the screen is dim. Does everything it says it does. I only have two complaints and two suggestion: 1) Tuning in poly mode seems to have you tune everything slightly sharp. I tuned all strings in poly first and then when switching to a single string to fine tune, ever single was string was just a hair sharp. I don't know if poly mode is accurate and single string mode is flat or vice versa, but that's a minor gripe. You can use poly mode to get close and single string mode to get every string perfect. 2) There is no way to "lock" the pedal in one mode or the other. You strum all strings for poly mode or one string for the other mode and the pedal automatically switches between modes. The problem is that you have to be sure ALL of the other strings are muted/completely silent to keep the pedal in single string mode. If you even accidentally bump another string while trying to tune a single string, the pedal will switch back to poly mode. It would be nice if there was a way to keep the pedal in one mode or the other to avoid inadvertently switching back and forth. Second suggestion, I wish there was a way to dim the display. When they say this pedal has an ultra-bright LED display, they mean it has an ULTRA-bright LED display. You could probably tune your guitar in low earth orbit with this pedal. That's fine in bright lighting or daylight, but at night or on a darkened stage, something that bright tends to affect my vision for a few minutes. Other than that, I found the pedal intuitive and easy to use. The only thing I had to refer to the manual for was to find out how to switch between alternate tunings. There is a TINY little button near the input jack and I missed it when just holding the pedal and giving it a quick once over. The pedal does not affect your tone in any noticeable way, even when you have your volume way up. I have previously used TC Electronics tuners with which I have had no complaints. I was looking for a cheap alternative to prevent me from having to carry my usual rack of pedals for my acoustic guitar when I was only going to play bass at a gig. The Behringer fits the bill admirably. I've not experienced some of the difficulties some hard-to-please people have posted on Youtube – crikey some people are petty – and would have no hesitancy in recommending the tuner to anybody else. Ich took this tuner as my old Korg Tuner started slowly to send me goodbye messages. After using it for several days the Korg is not used anymore. I don't see any dissadvanteges of this device – the differences to overpriced tuners of other companies are synthetic. I simply have not had any problems with Behringer devices at all. Price / Quality ratio at its best.
This tuner pedal works almost same like Boss TU-3 tuner pedal. I bought it based on YouTube reviews, found it really good. The review says it has got very bright power indicator LED which blinds to see the tuner LED's. But the pedal I received didn't have this problem, I think Behringer guys rectified this in the new production batches. This pedal is bit slow in responding (which I can live with) but gives accurate tuning. I took this pedal to quite a few gigs, it has never failed me (I bought it in Jan-15). Now this sits on my Bass guitarist's pedal-board, and he takes it to every gig we go, has never failed him too (he has got a 4-string Ibanez SR-300 bass). Overall nice tuner pedal for the bucks I paid. Pros- Accurate tuning Bright LED for better visibility Cons- Plastic casing (if you want to use it roughly..) Battery charge does not last long. Also, after clipping the tuner onto the guitar (Gretsch G5222) the display housing located on the movable arm that hooks the clip to the display housing, is so loose at the housing that it spins like a propeller on a child's beany. I was looking for a good tuner that would be small and not too expensive. I read many reviews and came to the conclusion that this is a very good product that offers precision and comfort with a small size. It doesn't need volume for tuning, only vibration and it is very convenient to place it on the neck of your instrument. For the price i think it does the job and it is definitely not lagging behind other more pricey tuners. The tuner is more suitable for guitarist for it has some tuning options when using capo. Overall i think this is a good product for the price. The only drawback is that it consumes a lot of battery life because of the display, so if you are using a tuner frequently, take into account that you will need many replacement batteries (but the batteries are very cheap on E-bay so not a big problem)Michael
This little gadget is a definite must have for amateur and professional guitarist alike. A cousin of mine showed me his and I knew that I just had to have one. Very simple to use: Just clip it on to your guitar and tune. I especially like that it enables you to tune quickly and also that the display is large and bright, so it is easy to see. It also seems to be very accurate. Another feature of this model is enabling you to tune sharp or flat in half step increments. So, for example, if you wanted to tune to a keyboard that was tuned 1/2 step or a step sharp or flat, you could tune to the keyboard. This feature also enables you to tune with a capo on for more accurate tuning. If I lost it, I would purchase another one…….QUICKLY! Also purchased one for a friend. The PW-CT-20 seemed like the perfect tuner pedal for me, but I may have received a faulty one. This tuner required an excessive amount of volume from the instrument to register the pitch. My 9v active bass wouldn't work with it at all. I tested it with a random Squier Strat and its volume knob had to be at 6-7 to work with the tuner pedal. When I returned it, the worker said it's probably faulty. I bought a Korg Pitchblack Advance, which is perfect for me. Assuming the Planet Waves tuner is fine, I didn't like that you had to unscrew the back panel to replace the battery. That could be bad in certain situations. Korg Pitchblack Advance has an easy on-and-off plastic cover for the battery compartment.Aaron
I bought this to replace a modtone tuner a friend had given me when I first started my board. I will say this was a very welcome upgrade. The modtone did it's job But by comparison this tuner feels more solid and more accurate. I like the display the thinner design helps save some space on my board. The only downside I have really found is that the screws that hold the back plate onto the pedal are extremely cheap and very short. I wanted to switch to a battery and bought one so that my tuner didn't take up space on my power supply and using different size screwdrivers I couldn't find one that seemed to fit the screws or grip them well. The last screw ended up almost getting stuck in the pedal from stripping and then when I finally got the plate off I come to find there is a battery already in it! I don't recall this being advertised and maybe I missed it in the manual but this could be an issue if people are unaware and leave it in there over long periods of time. All in all it's good. It serves its purpose and I can't really justify buying another tuner pedal to replace it. For now I have the screws backed off to make swapping batteries easier in the future.Deepstaria
Before buying this tuner, I looked everywhere and couldn't find anyone describing the foot switch mechanism itself. I needed a tuner for a gig that weekend. Any tuner would do and this was all they had. Seeing that I bought this tuner without using it first, I wish I would have known that the foot switch mechanism "snaps" loudly when you turn it on or off (approximate noise can be heard through a conversation). The sound doesn't come through the speakers, but it can be very distracting when the audience is quiet and standing right in front of you. I'll probably shop for another brand that doesn't make the distracting noise. It's very versatile, well-built and easily useable, but I would still recommend it to anyone starting out or who doesn't mind it, but there are other brands available at almost the same price point. I really like this tuner. It's got a very bright display and it's very responsive. The construction and materials seem solid. I like it much better than my TC Electronics tuner that I bought for $100. Except for one thing…..the Monoprice tuner only lasted a year. At first it would occasionally make a loud "pop" through my amp when I pushed the toggle button. One time before a gig it "popped" and blew out something in my GK bass head so that it only worked through the line out jack (not through the bass cabinet). The next day the head worked fine. But gradually the tuner started to generate noise through my system so I have retired it to the junk heap. I'm back to using my TC Electronics tuner with the erratic tuning indicator. I guess you get what you pay for. $20 a year for tuning. Geeze.,,,.Ted
Build quality and initial impressions: This pedal is small and cute – smaller than a typical Boss pedal but larger than a "mini" pedal. The casing is metal, but it feels flimsy and I can hear parts rattling around. I'm not convinced that this pedal will have a long lifespan, but I guess I'll find out. (If it breaks, I'll update this review.) As other reviewers mentioned, it's branded as "Stage Right" but it's the same product so it's not a big deal. The screen was actually cracked when I got it, which saves me the trouble of having to do it, at least. Functionality: The tuner works well and locks on to pitches quickly, but it does feel a little indecisive occasionally. It handles lower frequencies fine for the most part, but had some trouble picking up the lower strings on my 8-string. One review stated that the tuner was a little off and needed to be calibrated to match up with what other tuners were saying. Luckily, mine seems to be accurate out of the box. The display is bright and although I haven't tried it outside yet, I think it would be readable even in bright sunlight. Operation: Despite being relatively small, this pedal can still run off a 9V battery, or off a 9V power supply. The switch feels extremely unsatisfying to press. It takes a little more force than I would expect, and instead of gradually giving way, it depresses all at once and makes an obnoxious "click". This doesn't affect the output signal though, so it's an inconvenience more than anything. Features: The "pitch" button allows you to set the reference frequency (436 – 445Hz, default 440), and the "flat" button allows you to transpose the displayed note up 1-3 half steps. There are two outputs: one mutes the output signal when tuning as usual, and the other allows the sound to pass through unmuted. Conclusion: If this weren't the cheapest tuner pedal on Home Essentials Direct, I'd say it's not worth it due to the questionable build quality and the awful switch. However, it's $12 at the time of this writing, which is crazy cheap, and with that in mind it's well worth the money. I have a confession to make. I made an adverse review on this tuner years ago that was due to user error. This is the third one of these pedals that I have purchased. I gave one to a beginner guitarist as a MUST HAVE. I keep one where I leave my equipment for rehearsal, and the one I'm purchasing now will stay in the storage compartment of my guitar case to take wherever I go. I love this guitar tuner pedal. I like the big, bright display. It is very easy to see in different lighting conditions. It is metal construction and feels indestructible. The switch is the soft type that does not click, so you do not hear any popping or noise. You can use a battery or 9 volt adapter. There is also an additional adapter out to power other pedals, although the power cable is not included. There is also a calibration button on the back for different tunings. To open the bottom there is a big screw that you can easily use a coin to open it with. The tuner comes in a cloth like case inside the box. There are also rubber pads to put on the bottom of the pedal. The tuner seems accurate and fast. When you are flat the lines will be red. If the note is sharp the lines will be yellow. When you are in tune the line will be green. Overall, this is an excellent tuner!
For tuning onstage, this thing can't be beat. Display is very visible, although I haven't used in in bright outdoor lighting. I play bass and many tuners just get lost on the low E. I can only imagine about 5 string players. This one is very accurate down to the low E with no problem. The best thing I like about this is it acts as a mute switch, so you can switch instruments easily while onstage. Just turn the tuner on with the foot switch and pull out your guitar plug and switch to another guitar. No popping or any sound at all. Very versatile. Highly recommended.M Prater
Tuner is sturdy and well built. Heavy enough to stay put during performances. It works great, kills the signal while you tune and has a bright easily read display. However that bright display comes with a price. If it gets turned on by accident, your battery will be dead when you go to use it. Keep spare 9v batteries around or buy the optional 120v adapter. Don't know how well it works yet. This is not ready to use out of the box unless you happen to already have a 9v DC power supply. Not sure if it will take a 9v battery because a specific hex wrench is necessary to open the unit. It would be helpful to have this information on a retailer's website to alert potential buyers.Steve
Does everything it says it does. I only have two complaints and two suggestion: 1) Tuning in poly mode seems to have you tune everything slightly sharp. I tuned all strings in poly first and then when switching to a single string to fine tune, ever single was string was just a hair sharp. I don't know if poly mode is accurate and single string mode is flat or vice versa, but that's a minor gripe. You can use poly mode to get close and single string mode to get every string perfect. 2) There is no way to "lock" the pedal in one mode or the other. You strum all strings for poly mode or one string for the other mode and the pedal automatically switches between modes. The problem is that you have to be sure ALL of the other strings are muted/completely silent to keep the pedal in single string mode. If you even accidentally bump another string while trying to tune a single string, the pedal will switch back to poly mode. It would be nice if there was a way to keep the pedal in one mode or the other to avoid inadvertently switching back and forth. Second suggestion, I wish there was a way to dim the display. When they say this pedal has an ultra-bright LED display, they mean it has an ULTRA-bright LED display. You could probably tune your guitar in low earth orbit with this pedal. That's fine in bright lighting or daylight, but at night or on a darkened stage, something that bright tends to affect my vision for a few minutes. Other than that, I found the pedal intuitive and easy to use. The only thing I had to refer to the manual for was to find out how to switch between alternate tunings. There is a TINY little button near the input jack and I missed it when just holding the pedal and giving it a quick once over. The pedal does not affect your tone in any noticeable way, even when you have your volume way up. The footswitch is smooth and there's no audible pop (either on the pedal or through your amp) when switching the tuner on and off.Heavyarms

The Cool Waves D'Addario Eclipse Tuner is the best tuner I ever seen. The color display is very bright, easy to read and allows for easy calibration. The display itself is surrounded by a red rubber edging, similar to a rubber cell phone cover. It is attached to a heavy duty plastic clip by a "hinge". Where the display attaches to the "hinge", it can rotate 360 degrees. Where the hinge is attached to the clip, it can also turn rotate 360 degrees. The hinge itself can be opened almost 180 degrees. So you can basically move the display into any angle you wish. The attachment clip is very sturdy, easy to grip, and has a rubber cushion its ends to keep it from scratching your instrument. The only negative I have is, that although it has basic instructions, it does not come with detailed instructions, or a link where someone could find detailed instructions, for beginners or those not familiar with the usage of electronic tuners. We love this D'Addario Eclipse tuner! It's easy and gentle to clip on. Very easy to use, and easy to read as well even in low-light areas. It came with a battery too! It uses a CR2032 button-style battery when the time comes to replace it. It has a nice colored and easy to read display, and is very no-frills. It is chromatic and calibrates from 435 to 450Hz, works with both our electric and acoustic guitar. It's actually very accurate, and works quickly too. It makes it easy to know when the guitar is in tune. It shows lights that guide you to the correct tuning and shows the note for the string you're tuning. It seems to be made well and it's a good brand name as well. It's reasonably priced and works just as well as the more expensive brands we've had in the past. It will work on all stringed instruments and comes in other colors too. One other nice feature is that after attaching it to the headstock, you can swivel it in many directions so you can view it easily. I've never had a tuner before, I was using an app on my smart phone which was good when it picked up the audio but wasn't ideal for a bass guitar. So I finally decided to look into cheap yet reliable tuners. I found this, loved the look, checked out YouTube reviews and decided yeah it's worth the gamble, can't be worse than the app on my phone! Obviously I've heard of the brand D'addario so I knew quality wasn't going to be an issue. When it arrived I restrung my bass (I purchased new strings too) I was VERY impressed how this picks up and how quick it changes depending on me tuning the peg. It instantly made the app on my phone seem as junk as it was. So so very happy with the price, the product and its performance. This tuner is great! It picks up the sound amazingly and have found it more accurate in tuning. And so helpful with having a metronome. It is my first time figuring out how to use the metronome but I am a novice when it comes to using these things but have found it quite easy to figure out how to use. Covers a range of needs whislt being very easy to navigate. (An excellent (& independant) "how to" video on youtube helped me decide to buy this model, and also made it very easy to use). Only 1 thing I was looking for was missing – it labels a produced tone with the note name AND ITS OCTAVE. I would love to see octave number displayed when a string is sounding during the processof tuning it. It would prevent breaking strings (happened with a newly bought & re-strung 8 string uke, where the pairs of strings were of different guages, the correct octave was important to know; also useful for novice players, or for complex instruments). My D'Addario tuner maintains whatever Hz adjustment was made prior to power down. I made the bad assumption that others of a quality brand would support this too. I bought a Snark tuner YEARS ago. I thought this one must be better (it's been years). Frankly it isn't (it's been years). It's OK. I don't mind it. I prefer my old one. That said, I bought two of these and will use use them all the time. When you're told that a product has been improved and the supposed improvements are are not only not perceptible but the product seems to be inferior then … what? YAY gold button! The gold button makes me SOOOO happy! I lurves me some gold button! Meh. Who needs a gold button?Rory

A neat touch is because of the ball joints, the tuner can be mounted on the back side of the headstock, out of view of an audience but still fully visible to the user. The other point is. It's simple. Turn it on, tune up, turn it off. Great little unit. Slightly more expensive but in my opinion, worth it.alsanjak
