I wish I would have done the research first because I bought a rosin core with a different specs and I completely fried the board. I started to use this and the 60-40 Rosin worked wonders. The last core I had was non-lead which didn't stick at all. It was getting annoying but this mold worked so much better compared to the last one. I noticed that when adding soldering you have to wipe the tips and start with a fresh mold when restarting the process. I would recommend buying the Gold scrubby looking thing vs. using the aluminum probably would work better to wipe excess rosin and allow for a smoother application of the mold.ralfee051305

I had small amount of 0.1 70/30 solder left and tried it, and it turned out totally normal and shiny. After done, I had to go back and use a copper braid and de-solder thiteen other components made with this product because unit did not function properly. I went on Amazon and bought 70/30 0.1 lead/tin mix that was made in the USA. The unit functions fine now. Though I do purchase some items from Harbor Freight, and still plan to– your solder and combination solder/woodburning kits will not be on my list. Thank you.John

I am an electronic tech. Needed to use lead-free solder on recent electronic projects. There are several different formulations of lead-free solder. Have been using 99% tin, but it has a very narrow and high temperature range and does not flow well. Needed to try other formulations, but buying them in 1/2# or 1# spools just to try was expensive. This small "sampler" size was great. This 96% tin and 4% silver is a much better solder to work with. Lower and wider temperature range, flows smoother and better coverage. Will buy again. Now HF needs to also sell larger quantity package, 1/2# or 1# spools.Dan in Beaverton OR.

There's something wrong with this solder. It won't stick to the soldering iron and it won't flow into wires. It's supposed to be rosin core but I suspect there is no rosin core. I had to run out and buy solder elsewhere and had no issues after that. From reading the reviews, it's seems that others are having the same issue. I have another one of these that I bought many years ago from HF and it worked great so it's something with this particular batch.KReview75

Similar layout of controls and function, etc. Though I’m just a hobbyist mostly making RCA & XLO interconnects for my systems, just a few months after purchase, nothing more frustrating have your most important tool of the process just quit w/out warning. Good like finding replacement tips that fit properly. The Weller brand are hard to find, expensive, and the cheap no-names don't fit snug, so you won't get proper heat transfer. This will leave you frustrated, wondering why you're getting bad solder joints, or sitting there waiting minutes at a time for the solder to melt. Good station for beginners or once-in-a-while use, but beyond that, I can't recommend it.

I could have spent more and get a better product, but for a hobbyist, this is good enough. The iron takes a little longer to heat up than the one minute they say it takes. I like to have an on/off switch and a heat dial. It only comes with one tip and Weller branded tips are hard to find. They put 4 little rubber pads underneath but they don't even touch the table. Useless. I stuck a piece of rubber under to keep it from sliding. It gets the job done and it's not too expensive so, all in all, a decent buy.Normand223
