I think for the price this is a decent mic. It gives a clearer sound then what I had in my arsenal for my acoustic guitar. I've not tried it on anything else, so I haven't had a need to use the pad. I was trying large condensers on the acoustic and they were too muffled. This comes across much cleaner, maybe a little on the bright side but that's better than muddled. I'm using it to mic at the fingerboard and it gives a better, cleaner and more full bodied sound. I would note it's a little sensitive to being bumped. I found if I bump it I have to readjust the connection to get rid of a bit of hum it seems to pick up after the bump.Z
I used this product on a number of things. Timbale,Drums Overheads,Acoustic Guitars,String Quartets, Vocal Choirs,Steel Drums and well as room mic's. It comes with a 20db pad which is very helpful when recording loud percussion like Timbale,Steel Drums, and loud Drums. Make sure you have a low noise pre amp and you get really good results. I only wish it came with omni capsules or at least had that option. These mic's are great for the money.Joseph
I was reluctant to believe that I could make any type of Splash using this microphone to do my first ever voice over gig, but honestly it was all I could afford at the time. It came out smelling like a rose! Of course at that price point you're not going to get anything close to a u87ai. And the noise floor in my opinion leaves quite a bit to be desired, but with the little bit of offset compression and some other tweaking, this mic can sound as good as anything Shure has on the market, or possibly even the sm58 for voiceover work.RB

I recently installed a stereo pair of these mics on a grand piano for recording purposes. I was absolutely blown away by the quality of sound they delivered. This Pair of Neumann KM184 arrived well-protected in a well-made wooden box that is handy to carry around, with all their attachments included. I'd kept a vintage pair of km84s in an old sunglasses case in my drawer.. finally decided to give them a proper home. This box was designed for 2 km184s, but my pair of 84s fit fine. The foam cut is a tiny bit too short length wise, but they still squeeze in there just fine. Unfortunately I keep my clips fitted with quick releases, which prevents them from fitting in their designated slots.. I prefer AKG SA60 clips for km84s, which fit perfectly with room for the badge, and are almost $50 cheaper than the neumann clips intended for 184s, and they also are also more rugged. The Neumann wn110 windscreen doesn't quite fit in the windscreen slot without being squished, so ultimately I'm only storing the mics in here, which seems a little wasteful, but it still feels more secure to store the 84s in this box rather than a random drawer, so I'm glad I picked it up.Michael

I know, that there are more expensive in the market for the purpose of overhead recording (AKG 414, Beyerdinamic M130 and so on). But if you find very very usefull condens mic for cymbals, overheads, hi-hat – it's a perfect choice. I use them as pair (not matched) and they are great. Highly recommend!
I've used this product for many years going back to the regular 451 with a ck-1 capsule. this is one of the finest if not the best cymbal mics available for high hat or overheads. A bit pricey for overheads, but it is what it is. I can take one and make a snare and hat blend very well. great on anything you want to pick up hand sounds such as conga's, Horns, saxes. they're not cheap, but they are flat, very clear and transparent. you don't get a lot of the mid range metallic sound on Hat's like you do on a lot of mics. great mics all around.SteveinLR
I got this mic to record accoustic guitars, banjo and mandolin. It is a solid mic that emphasize fast transients and lifts up the high frequencies of the instrument. If you noticed that Jack Johnson has recorded most of his giitars with this mic, it will give you an idea of the type of tool we are talking about. Interestingly, although few people use SDC mics for vocals, it worked very well on my voice when using the windscreen. It delivers some nice and crisp vocals. Comparing the AKG451b to the famous Neumann SDC standard, the sound is a little thinner but in some case it actually helps fit the instrument in the mix. I bought this mic a few weeks ago and I was able to use it at work for some podcasting. The shock mount slides over the mic easily and locks in place. I attached the shock mount to a Proline Desk Boom mic stand, plugged the mic, connected it to a mixer, and then connected it to a Tascam recorder. Off in running in about 5 minutes. I love that the mic comes with a case for transport. The foam protects the mic and shock mount and allows me to transport the mic without having to worry about moisture or having the mic battered around in the car. I looked at some of the audio samples today and I great great audio at a small price.Jonathan

I wanted a pair of pencil condensers for the home studio; that I could use primarily for recording acoustic guitar, but that also sounded great in other applications as well. (overheads, room mics, etc.) On an acoustic as a pair these sound fantastic, the dry signal itself sounds practically record ready (Taking into consideration the instrument quality and room setup as well). There are probably "better" mics out there in this category, but not that I know of at this price, and in terms of sound quality alone maybe not by much. These NT5's absolutely blow away any lower end mics I've used (MXL, CAD) and as far as I can hear sound basically just as good as most higher end microphones that you'd spend twice as much on. (Go to Youtube and watch some Mic Shootout comparisons with these) I grabbed one of Rode's stereo bars for the pair which makes setting them up nicely convenient. (Couln't find this on musician's friend, GC, or Sweetwater though. Went to RODE's website and ordered separate.) A phenominal set of pencil condensers for the home studio recorder. At 0.5" capsules, they don't overkill high frequencies, but certainly don't lack in the bottom end either. I use these mostly recording acoustic & acoustic rock styles and the tonal balance is perfect in my opinion. Excellent clarity as room mics, haven't tried as kit overheads yet.Cully
I haven't had a chance yet to fully experience the microphone in any situation, but so far it's been pretty good. Definitely adjust the gain based on the distance it is from the source. Always keep it a little lower than you would usually like it because that will prevent it from clipping and you can always increase the volume in post production. I saw a review of this microphone by Warren Huart on one of his many You Tube videos. He raved about the quality of the Lewitt LCT 140 and so I went with his advice. I have not been disappointed. The quality I am getting when recording my Taylor acoustic guitar is excellent. To such an extent that I have had to carry out virtually no EQing after the recording. Pleased with the price/performance of these mics. Using them as drum overheads and plan to get a stereo bar and record guitar in the future. Strange is my description for this little microphone because I don't know of another like it! It is a small diaphragm mike, despite being side-address. Actually, a very small electric element, not that there's anything wrong with that. Some of the most accurate (and expensive) mikes out there have the same setup. I bought a pair of these C3s as spot mikes in live recording (choirs and such) and the multi-pattern feature is a definite plus for this. I know of no other microphone — at least at this price range — with the same feature set. It's also handy as a studio mike on acoustic instruments. The figure-8 setting is excellent in that role, surprisingly flat response with good side rejection.Quibbles: a tad noisy, but that's to be expected with the very small diaphragm. It's a trade-off. The fitting are mostly plastic and could degrade over time. No problems so far though, I would point out. There is a foam wind screen inside the mesh head-basket that will also degrade eventually and it's not so easy getting it out. I opened up the mike and removed it right away (there goes the warranty!) which improved the sound a bit too.Steve B-fDH9F
Looking for a really low cost, low end studio mike, this is it, but with limitations. You can't beat the features. Comes with 10db attenuation switch, hi pass switch, plus multi pattern for around $100. Got mine new for $65. The bad: frequency response is around 70-17000 so you don't have the highs. You can hear the difference compared to low end audio technica At2020. This mike would be good for broadcasting, announcing, & other non vocal applications or mid range instrument recording such as guitar, snare drums.radio10
I needed a microphone for a conference that would plug into my laptop, but did not want one solely for that purpose, so a USB mic was not my preference. Musician's Friend steered me to this Behringer mic. The price was right–especially for a condenser mic–and with the appropriate (Behringer) interface, it was plug-and-play into the laptop. But once I started using it, I found that it was much more versatile than that. It has great sound reproduction, and I really like that it has three fields: omni-, cardiod, and figure eight. I was able to pick up speakers from over fifteen feet away, and the quality was much better than boundary mics I have used. Firstly it comes in a really nice wooden storage box, very classy presentation I must say. For the prices I can't believe the sheer quality and crystal clear signal processing it contains. I find myself barely having to push my EQ or compression as I would normally with one of my old mics which found better use at a pawn shop! I've only had it about 4 months now, and since then every artist I work with including my own songs have been worlds easier to mix and also sound worlds better. I am more than pleased with the Bluebird SL. The upward curve in frequency response exactly meets my needs (recording a wind instrument whose character lies hidden in the overtones). I can easily imagine voices or instruments that this mic is unsuitable for but if you find yourself boosting the 5khz-8khz with eq to achieve a certain presence, do yourself a favor and let this mic do it for you.Mitchell
I love how clear my Bluebird SLs are on everything I've tried them on. Vocals pop in mixes without being too edgy. There's so much headroom there that I need less preamp gain, making for a much cleaner sound. They also sound nice and clean in various positions on my Guild D25 acoustic… even right up on the sound hole without being boomy. I find Bluebirds are brilliant on hand percussion, as well. I liked my first Bluebird so much, I got a second one for stereo. A pair of Bluebirds made my relatively mellow 7' Steinway B cut through an ensemble mix in much more the way a Yamaha does, so bonus… two grands in one! (For solo piano, I'm preferring a pair of Blue's Baby Bottle SLs due to their additional low end.) All in all, Bluebirds are good for just about anything you want to feature in a track, especially if you're going for a modern sound.Moogman

If you are looking for a budget mic that is warm and tube like, this is it. I bought this because of reputation not because of the price. It is a fantastic mic. Nothing cheap sounding about it and I had no issues with self noise either. Used with a dbx 286s channel strip with a bit of compression and EQ going into my DAW. A clean preamp.. You can’t go wrong and it looks cheesely cool. Sounds above it’s price point. For the price you can’t beat it. By the way it is nicely made too. No worries there. Used on female vocals only. First, B&H got this here quickly even in these times, great job. I watched many online reviews of this before I bought it. The reviews I watched and read were correct, this microphone is amazing for the price. It has extremely little noise and sounds amazing for the price. It supposedly originally retailed for $200 and now is under $100. At that price it's a steal. I'm planning on doing home recordings of my wife and I singing some of my arrangements for fun. I want her to sound good (which she does) and this should bring out her true quality. This mic did not come with any accessories like some others do, so I have added a pop filter and shock mount which should take it to the next level. Other than that, I can't think of any negatives at this price point. Recommended.Robert

For this pricepoint I wasn't expecting top notch quality, especially since you get a shockmount, a nice study pop filter and the microphone itself. The durability of this microphone is good until you get to the grill/mesh covering the capsule, which you can easily dent compared to other microphones. It's not a problem if you can look after it and hold it in a good stand, but if you drop it a couple of times it could risk any dent if you cared for the look of your microphone. The sliders for the gain knobs are not difficult to push over, but difficult to find out where it is already located due to the slim spacing between the texting, making it difficult to find where the middle of the scroll to see what it's positioned. The high pass filter is extremely useful on top of the shockmount. I'm using a noise gate on top of it with a DAW software and I can not at all hear desk noises or any unwanted noise. That's pretty awesome to have. What I LOVE about this microphone setup is; The shockmount: I came from a Rode Procaster and had to use a Rode PSM-1 shockmount. The knob to screw the microphone on the Rode was SO difficult to screw on. This one, the microphone slots into place without passing through the hole, and you screw it on with a large knob. I own one of these already, and wanted to add more reinforcement of these microphones to my collection. Using the microphone I already own as a Internet Radio DJ microphone, adding on a desktop boom stand, and a professional dual-mesh pop filter. I purchased two additional AT2035 microphones to allow guests on the radio programme. The unit comes with a compact, well designed shock mount, and a convenient carry pouch. The shock mount attaches easily with some force, but the pouch is useless if you want to keep the shock mount attached to the microphone and travel with it. The pouch would better be useful if it were a protective satchel or bag. It feels like the included protective pouch was designed to just protect the microphone, before the inclusion of the shock mount. In either case, the microphone and shock mount are a good combination, and has nice warm sound. Using it mostly for vocal speech DJ hosting work, can't say much for the singing. My original AT2035 microphone has been in service, doing weekly radio programmes for more than a couple of years now, without fail. So the unit is well designed, robust, and even though I marked "Heavy/Bulky" under "Cons", it is ACTUALLY a PRO. This microphone is not intended to be hand-held, and should always be mounted on a boom, or microphone stand, along with some form of shock mount, and therefor, the heaviness and bulkiness of the unit is a POSITIVE thing. This quality not only adds to the sturdiness of the unit, but its stability in its use. Metal construction on the outside, and thick metal wire mesh to protect the internal cardioid capsule, the microphone can not be picked up without feeling that the unit is built with some degree of durability. This microphone brings out all the subtle details of an acoustic instrument or voice. Although it has a cardioid pickup pattern, it picks up two voices very nicely on a video call, better than with a typical dynamic mic. If you want to be kind to your audience don't rely on the microphones built into laptops or video cameras. My Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 provides phantom power, monitoring and a digital interface with my laptop. I prefer a single audio interface with quality preamps over a mic with USB interface. The shock mount works beautifully. A pop filter is a useful accessory but not always necessary.Peter
It's basically an upgraded at2020, and very much worth the money for the mic. It sounds just as good if not better then more expensive options, within reasonable expectations. It's not going to compete with an vintage mic, nor is it going to compete with a much more expensive mic with a specific sound signature. But for a flat, basic microphone, it is one of the best within it's price range. It picks up vocals where it is supposed to and drastically reduces sound from things like speakers positioned behind it. It is probably the best microphone you can get for video calls, streaming, and other activities where sound cancelation is important. Paired with a basic XLR interface with phantom power and it is the most clear you can get for your coworkers or friends for a very reasonable price. As someone that does work remote and as someone that hangs out with friends having a good mic is very important. My at2020 usb started having issues so it was only a natural progression to get the next tier up and an inherently better usb interface for it. Bought this mic for my little home studio. Have been using it for a few months now and I am very please with it. Works great for just about any application! I use it for acoustic guitar, drums, vocals and clean guitar. Have tried it on distorted gutiar but it just doesn't capture the crunch, but if you pair it with a good dynamic you get the best of both worlds! Built like a rock (but thats Shure for you. Used this mic along with another one that I already owned to mic a 20 person choir on Easter morning. Our contemporary Praise and Worship band usually runs around 98 db on stage so I was worried that I wouldn't be able to get the choir above the music. I was wrong. The mics have a tight focused pattern that let me really zero in on the choir without picking up a lot of stage noise. My gain before feedback was great with hardly a squeak of feedback and I had to really push them to get that. Didn't use much eq at all. On of the best small diaphram mics I have ever used. The other one I already owned, I used as a drum overhead. Worked very well in that position too.Bob
I think this was originally introduced as the KSM-109 in champagne finish. It was discontinued from the KSM line and became the SM-137 in black finish. I have used it for a variety of tasks including close instrument pick-up (both wind and brass), strings, controlled vocals, podcasts and orchestra. This is a sweet, FLAT microphone. So I have the other 2 popular mics like this, SM7B and RE20. Here's how it stands up to them. It has more high end presence than either of them. It is slightly louder than the RE20 and quite a bit louder than the SM7B. It is smaller than the RE20 but bigger than the SM7B. Like the other 2 mics it looks cool. It needs phantom power. It handles really loud vocals well. I prefer the sound of the LS-208.

You'd think I hated these mics. Not so. I'm just not jumping up and down for them. I bought two. I tested them on acoustic guitar and a 2 fender amps only so I'm not being 100% all in here but I've been recording in my own pro studio for 33 years and other studios much longer than that. On acoustic guitar, they sound lifeless dull and boring. I'm comparing that to other mics, some that are slightly more and others that are a lot more. Either way, for about the same money you can find other mics that do sound stellar. On electric cabs, they are fairly true to sound and nothing special. I like a mic with flavor, this has no taste. Take it for what it is worth. If you want to something to sound just like it sounds, this might be an ok mic. Like I said, if the mic doesn't bring something to life I figure why bother. They feel pretty solid. I'm pretty sure they will last well based on how they feel. These are in no way near the same class as the ST169 tube mics these guys make. Those mics are stellar.OldRocker
Purchased recently due to good price and high spl capability, the real surprise is the simple fact that it is the best mic in my mic locker with the best air and inner detail over the full audio range while still maintaining a flat frequency response, and that translates into virtually no EQ necessary! This is also an incredible vocal mic I might add. This might be the best mic Sterling has come out with, but that's just my opinion…….CK in Carr

Based on classic microphone circuitry, the nickel warm audio wa-84 is a fully discrete, small-diaphragm condenser microphone well suited for professional studios, home studios, live sound, and broadcast applications. the wa-84 excels at capturing a variety of sources including acoustic/electric guitars, acoustic/electric bass, drums, pianos, strings, brass, woodwinds, and an array of other instruments. the wa-84 features a heavy nickel cinemag usa transformer in its signal path to warm up and enlarge the sound source. also, included are audiophile components including polystyrene and wima capacitors and a fairchild fet, which all contribute to produce a gorgeous sounding circuit with great signal integrity and a smooth boutique tone and a creamy-smooth top-end and a beefy mid-to-bottom. the cardioid capsule is replaceable and is easily unscrewed from the body. the enclosure features a -10 db pad to attenuate loud sources, while the gold-plated 3-pin xlr connector ensures a solid connection to an optional microphone cable. the wa-84 offers a frequency response of 20 hz to 20 khz and can capture sources with a maximum spl of 133 db (with the -10 db pad engaged). the warm audio wa-84 includes a shockmount, a microphone clip, a windscreen, and a carrying case.

The WA-84 is a small diaphragm condenser microphone. They come in a small body like their vintage counterparts, but they have a large sound. With their polar cardioide and their pad -10dB, you can use this mics in any instrument. They are ideal for drums overhead because they capture the cymbals with in a lively and warm manner. I love how they sound in the hi-hat, acoustic guitar, acoustic piano, violin, violas, and cellos. When using these mics with acoustic instruments in the studio, I combine them with room mics (in my case, I use the WA-47JRs or WA-87s). This is a perfect combination to capture the natural sound from those instruments. The results are astonishing. We are loving our WA-84s.El Cerrito Studio

This is a fantastic microphone for voice over work. I had another "professional microphone" by MXL, and it developed a terrible hiss after only 8 months of use. The sound is so much better with this one, and even though it isn't a noise cancelling type, it doesn't pick up half as much background noise as my old one. I didn't even need to reconfigure my audio software or mixer, it was just plug and play. Will recommend to everyone.laughingcat302
This is an excellent microphone. The shock mount and pop filter included in the package are super compact and designed so you can get as close as you want to this microphone. Because its so small, it also doesnt get in the way when doing VO, allowing me to easily see past it. The pop filter doesnt work quite as well as some others, likely just because it is so close to the mic, but with that in mind, it works pretty well. Build quality/fit and finish is good as well. It has a very low self noise and a very clean sound. I compared it to a Rode NT1 and sE Electronics X1 S. The LCT-440 Pure has a bit more presence in the high end than those mics, without going far enough to sound sibilant or harsh on my voice. The NT1 has a bit more boomy low end. Those other mics are great, but in the end, I prefer the Lewitt LCT-440 Pure.Tony
I'm not a pro and my ears are old but I know I like this mic and I can't wait to use it in anger. I have only done some short test stuff but it is breathtakingly clear and extremely low noise compared to my other condenser. It feels well built, very nice designed mount and pop shield. I did loads of research on the net, got massively confused, could have spent loads more (in theory) but I'm glad I didn't – this was all I needed.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
