Yes, the tonal range is great, especially the piezo pickup, nicely playable and overall looks and finish seem perfect. But, with nicely contoured access to the high notes let down by the overly large neck heal which starts a fret or two earlier than my other electric guitars. Another annoyance is the very cheap knobs which don't sit straight on the pots. I have a guitar costing a tenth of the price with better fitting knobs. The battery compartment is a bad joke of a design, as the battery holder comes out with the wires attached, you then have to prise up the battery from its contacts and the lever it out for replacement. Overall these are minor annoyances on what is a great guitar but, at this price I expected better. Oh yes, it came with a hard case. Which doesn't fit properly and with no tags or brand markings so who knows what it was made for. It did come with two loose bits of foam, one which was floating around unsure of its purpose.Kevin L.
PRS SE Hollowbody II Piezo — I've owned and played this guitar for about three months now. Bottom line: I'm very happy with it–and would recommend it–in spite of a couple issues. There are dozens and dozens of videos that go into detail about the appearance, fit, and finish of this guitar so I won't bother with all that except to confirm that it is very well made overall. The magnetic pickups sound fantastic, period. The piezo pickup was putting out FAR too hot of a signal, distorting at low guitar volume, but once I learned how to adjust the trim pot for it (thanks to the PRS guitar forum website), that problem was solved and now it sounds good. It's a tad bright in my opinion but that's easily fixed with the tone knob on any amp or with an EQ pedal. The battery compartment opens easily enough, but getting the 9V battery out of it without breaking the plastic frame is a challenge. Fortunately, the battery isn't used unless you plug a cable into the PIEZO/MAG jack. The 3-way selector is garbage and I was experiencing crackling and signal drop right out of the box. HOWEVER, this is a known issue and several reviewer videos mention it so I knew what to expect. My soldering skills are only beginner-level (and I've never worked on a hollowbody before) so I paid to have a pro replace the switch for me. MF has offered to credit me the amount of the repair once I send them the receipt, so that's good. The Guitar Case — This shipped with a hard case, which I'm not happy with. When the guitar is properly seated and the lid is properly closed and latched, there is a quarter-inch gap around the bottom (see pics). That's not good. There are several (expensive) case options that are touted as "PRS and PRS-style" cases but they WILL NOT FIT this particular guitar because the lower bout is 14" wide (at least an inch wider than other PRS models). Also, it's about an inch thicker (front to back) than a Jazzmaster so a Jaguar/Jazz case won't work either.RiserGrease
I received the Black Gold Burst version about a week ago. It's a BEAUTIFUL guitar. The pictures don't do it justice. The f-holes really add to the appearance. Fender ALSO makes a hollowbody guitar, but they went the round sound hole direction, which, IMHO, is hokey looking. The sound is INCREDIBLE! I have 4 other electric guitars, including a Fender American Standard Strat, Gibson Les Paul, Gibson SG and an Ibanez Prestige- They are ALL wonderful guitars, and each has its own personality, in how they play AND how they sound. THIS guitar has a sound that TRANSCENDS ALL of my other guitars. There are a number of videos on YouTube. BUT, as with the appearance, they simply DO NOT do it justice. The humbucker pickups ALONE produce a sound that is CLEAR and RESONANT. Adding the sound from the piezo pickup sends it over the top! ABSOLUTELY MARVELOUS. I was a little reluctant to purchase a guitar made in China. However, the CONSTRUCTION and FINISH are PERFECT! PLUS, the cost is WAAAY less than the equivalent US-made version. It's an Ibanez. I am a long time Ibanez fan. Even when they started the Artcore series. I own for PRS CU24's; American Fender Strat Deluxe and Tele; Les Paul elegant and Explorer. Except when I'm playing with our group I'm usually on one of my Ibanez. If they are lower end units like this I expect to change the electronics, nut and tuners. I did the tuners and had planned on installing Seth Lovers. Mean while I put some A4 magnets in the pickups and… NO SETH LOVERS! I love the tone, the responsiveness/sensitivity. See can be smooth as silk with the volume back or nice and crunchy @ 10. Pinch harmonics reach out and grab you in a nice way. Other than the tuning pegs, nut and strap locks she'll stay this way for at least a while. I got her for the color (I'm not into green guitars or fade finishes but she caught my eye for some reason) and what a friend "the Pickle" has become.Mondron
If you want a good looking semi-hollow body guitar that plays and sounds OK, this is probably the best value for money guitar out there. You still get what you pay for, but i think Ibanez has found a good balance in that regard. Craftsmanship : It looks amazing and sounds great for such a cheap guitar. Of course there are some features that could be better, but none of these really affect the looks, playability or sound of the guitar. Sound : the pickups are a little hot and punchy for me, but for a pair of cheap pickups they sound pretty good. They give plenty of output for a good fuzzy sound but also sound reasonably good clean. This guitar can handle a solid rock sound and a decent clean sound as well. A little bright maybe, but you have the individual tone controls to remedy that if you wanted to. Plenty of sustain too. Neck : If you're coming from a Fender electric guitar it could take a little getting used to the smaller scale length, the bigger radius of the fretboard and the smaller string spacing. But nothing dramatic. I would think this is the perfect beginner guitar for those reasons. The neck profile feels good to me. All in all a great guitar for the money.
This is an extremely nice guitar, especially for the price. Great action, set-up, and play-ability straight out the box. Humbucker pickups are nice and warm, giving a nice "dark" tone to the guitar (strong bass and mid-tones) to my ears. Good variation of range of tone from the bridge and neck pickups and so is quite versatile. Lovely overtones/ harmonics going through a Blues Driver into an Orange Micro Terror — you can rock with this! — and the guitar combined well with a Roland Jazz Chorus 22 cancelling out some of the brightness of this amp. Quality of components and finish is very good. It's also a light guitar in terms of weight, so it's a practical instrument to play on stage, especially if you have a long gig — and are starting to get on a bit, like me. Of course, it's green, which might put people off, I guess… Then again, it's very eye catching and people won't miss it on stage! So I thought I would re review this guitar for you since I have now had it almost a year. I have to say it has far exceeded my expectations. Definitely my favorite of all my guitars. I recently decided to put Thomastik flatwound bebop jazz 13's on it, mas this guitar came to life. The Thomastiks are quite expensive, but I have not replaced them for six months and still play like new. gave this guitar such a smooth and fat tone. It really gave this guitar a whole new sound, not that the sound was bad with the 11's but it just has a tone that warms your heart now. I had to do some adjustments to the truss rod and tweek her in a bit, I readjusted the pickups and bridge, but man… WOW what a fine instrument. I am so proud to own one of these. It took a while for this guitar to really come to life for me. It is my first semi hollow body. I saw the video and fell in love with it, had to have it. It is beautiful not just in looks but in sound as well. It is a heavy beast, you may not like that, and it took me a bit to get used to the U shaped neck. I am used to play thinner narrower neck guitars. When I first got it I would not stay in tune, and took a few weeks of stretching strings and breaking it in to settle in. I have really come to love this guitar. It plays very well. I like to play jazz and mellow ballad type music with it. It has great tone, and sustain. I think as time goes by this one may grow to be my favorite. I have a Gibson SG, which I absolutely love the tone of. I also Have a Gretsch Pro Jet with Bigsby as of now is my Favorite to play. I would recommend this guitar, it has a sound all its own as is all Guild. I like tonal variation in my guitars because i do a lot of recording, and I like each guitar to set in its own space. This guitar definitely does that. It is the most expensive guitar I have purchased to date, so my expectations were very high. I started out a bit disappointed but as time has gone I am loving it more everyday. It came with an excellent case beautiful blue lining and a sturdy shell. The looks are good for stage (the audience doesn't look too closely at the f-holes), but I wouldn't frame the thing and hang it on the wall. But, that's not what it's for. I bought this because I am an ordinary mortal who cannot afford a Gibson 335. This eases my 335 lust quite handily. The neck intonation is precise, my guitar came set up ideally, it has a great palette of tones. Unlike a Gibson, it has only one volume and one tone control, so one accesses that palette of tone differently. A plus- I can do volume-pot roll-ons more easily than with a 4-knob setup. It stays in tune, and is happiest when playing with a good tube amp set just at breakup – it cleans up with the volume knob, fills its jockstrap when you crank it back up, and use a good overdrive pedal to take it over the top for leads. Epiphones seem to be, in my experience, some of the best-built Chinese guitars. Good tone, good playability and tuning stability, It's the first of my guitars that I grab when headed for a blues gig.the old bald guy
I love the Dot, but I am disappointed in the quality control. I purchased a jet black Dot and I could tell right off the bat that there were problems. The first clue was a scratchy pickup selector switch. The guitar is set up un-neccessarily high. Fortunately it is very easy to adjust the action height on this model. The biggest disappointment is the second day I went to pickup the guitar and cracks had started to develop on the neck! This one when directly back to MF and they seem to have been very helpful. This time around I chose the natural finish, because I want to see the neck wood and determine if I have a finish issue or a genuine structural issue. The Dot I sent back didn't seem to have a structural issue, but the finish at a minimum was below par. The second guitar I received seems to work really well and has consistent tone.Fred
The Epiphone Dot is a major bargain, especially when compared to the USA-made Gibson 335. It has outstanding tone right out of the box. Being a tone fanatic, I replaced the bridge with a Tonepros TPFG bridge with nylon saddles, pickups were replaced by Throbak SLE-101 humbuckers, and the tuners were replaced with Kluson Revolution locking tuners. Now it is an awesome tone monster, still for way less than you would pay for the Gibson 335. Players should be aware that the body is significantly larger than a Strat or a Les Paul — but that's what happens when semi-hollow resonance is what you're after. The center block design is very effective at eliminating unwanted feedback from your amp. Don't think you have to modify it to make it sing, like I said before, it packs a wallop even in stock form. What I do strongly recommend is to have a professional guitar tech or luthier give the guitar a pro setup, complete with truss bar adjustment and saddle adjustment.stonnman

I got my Sheraton almost two years ago as a christmas gift, and I have played it more than any of my other guitars since then! It is a fantastic semihollow that feels perfectly suited to my playing style and my size (I'm 6'0"). It is comfortable to play sitting down or standing up, but I must say that for a semihollow, it is quite heavy. I love the classic twin humbucker, 4 knob, 3 way switch configuration. Usually I would use pedals to get my tones, but with this guitar I find myself just getting my amp to break up naturally, and play around with the tone knobs and volume knobs. I can get tons of different sounds that way, and I haven't used my pedalboard in a long time. My Sheraton in particular is quite bright, I don't know if all of them are like that, but mine is. This to me is great as I love bright guitars that can thicken up when turning the tone knob down. In fact, I keep my tone knobs turned down to about 7 or 8 90% of the time, and I turn them up when it's time to really dig in. I find that it can do blues comfortably, but it can also do hard rock and I even play fast Metallica songs complete with solos on it. When I got it, I immediately took off the not so great looking pickguard and put 11-50 strings on it. It was great out of the box, but I still needed to make a full setup just to get it to how I like my guitars set up. But still it felt too blingy for my personal taste, so I changed the gold screws on the pickup rings to black screws, and the gold knobs to vintage looking black ones. Now it looks so good that I sometimes catch a glimpse of it when sitting on my desk and feel the urge to go "oh yeah!" Some things that I don't like: the finish is quite plasticky and can get sticky after a while, plus it's not as perfect as I would have wanted. The neck has a very agressive thin shape that took me a while to get comfortable in, and still to this day will feel alien if I've been playing any of my other guitars. It is quite heavy, I haven't weighted it to see, but it is my heaviest guitar, and all of my other electrics are solidbodies. The pickup selector broke about two months in. Lastly, the split coils feel a bit useless to me, and the volume knobs have much less resistance to being turned than the tone knobs, which I imagine comes from the push pull functionality. But all of those are nitpicks for such a great guitar. I highly recommend the Sheraton. It is a fantastic guitar. Great sounds, great looks, and you get the classic ES-335 versatility that session musicians love. You really can't beat it at this price!
As with most people, I'm hesitant to buy guitars sight unseen through the mail. But with the current state of the world, that's becoming more and more the norm. Luckily the guitar arrived in absolutely perfect condition and set up nicely. The Red is really deep and rich. I know it's cliche, but the pictures really don't do it justice. I've been on a quest all these years for a guitar with a neck that properly fits my small hands and extremely short thumbs (nearly impossible to roll my thumb over the top of the neck ala Hendrix). I was torn between the Sheraton and the Casino, but decided on the Sheraton. When the next 48 month 0% promotion rolls around I may get the Casino as well. The tone of the Sheraton is very surprising for this price range. I also own a Clapton Strat (almost 3 times the price), and I absolutely enjoy the sound of the Sheraton more, as hard as that might be to believe. Obviously that is subjective. However, the place the Sheraton really shines for me is the neck! It fits my hands better than any other guitar I've ever played. Rolling my thumb over the top still isn't an easy proposition, but at least it's in reach (no pun intended), and with some practice I'll eventually get there. On the Strat it was impossible. I mainly play on the neck pickup, and it has a nice creamy, warm sound combined with my Blues Deluxe Reissue. I've never owned a 335 type guitar, as I always thought they were for jazz, but this guitar is very versatile. It's still a crapshoot with ordering through the mail, but I highly recommend the Sheraton if you (like me) can't afford a Gibson.Patrick B
Overall: Ive had this guitar a little over 24 hours now and cant put it down!! I got the blemished wine red model and the only blemish it had was a smidge of paint got on the binding where it meets the neck, i mean you had to really look close to see it and zZounds being the grandslam hitters that they are knocked 100 bucks off the price!!!I recieved it in a 1 1/2 days ( doesnt get any faster than that) and straight out of the box the action was perfect the intonation was spot on! The D string was maybe a cent out of tune. The guitar in wine red with the gold hardware is visually stunning, build quality you ask? Its built like a tank from the grover tuners, bone nut, loctone bridge and tail piece with a 3 way toggle you can litterally abuse and the probuckers sound amaZzing in full humbucker and coil split. This is a 1,000 + quitar with an intermediate price tag! Got to take a minute to shout out to the guys and gals at zZounds this is the third guitar that ive bought from them and they just keep knockin it out of the park!!! I will never shop for a guitar any where else you guys are first ballad hall of famers all the way!!! If your sick of the used car salesman approach and being followed around the lot, zZounds is the answer, they are the most professional ive ever dealt with period. The first thousand models were signature guitars and are now worth a lot of money. Rickenbacker however did not stop producing this guitar after the signature run because they knew a great thing was worth keeping. Tom Petty was not happy with that decision but it worked out wonderful for the rest of us . One suggestion to everyone is to buy a Janglebox pedal and play it through that in order to achieve the best potential so it delivers the purest classic shimmering chime 🎶😎🎶Billbass1
I'd been looking for a Rickenbacker for a while and kind of got this one on a whim based on availability. It's genuinely my favourite guitar. I play in a noise/metal band, and the versatility and tonality makes this a power house and goes way beyond the stereotypical Rickenbacker sound. It's definitely a smaller guitar, which takes some getting used to, but that makes it easier to use without breaking your shoulders. The smaller body also gives a very distinct characteristic in its sustatin, which means it takes pedals and distortion exceedingly well.
This guitar is not only gorgeous to look at, it sounds and plays like no other. I've been coveting this particular model & finish (360 Fireglo) for years, as they are hard to find — and worth the wait & money – no question. If you are new to Rickenbacker, they have a very unique feel that is both responsive and… WARNING, it makes it extremely hard to put down. The pick ups have a unique sound, superb range and versatility. You can add any effect to that and they just deliver out-of-this world tones. The little fifth "blend" knob is a great tool to balance your pick up sound. The more I play with this, the more stuff I discover. You can do rhythm or lead on ANY style, with 2 full octaves fretboard and easy reach to the highest frets, you can see why so many savvy guitarist have at least one of these beauties in their collection. BTW, this guitar comes with 2 cable jacks. The Rick "O" Sound (the hole for the cable on the bottom) will only work with a stereo cable when connected to two different inputs (amps/mixer). If you connect a regular cable to the Rick"O"Sound your neck pick up will not sound, it is not broken, it is because each pick up goes to a separate speaker with that mode (and it sounds like a fantastic beast). If you use the top guitar hole "standard" you will be good to go, because it still sounds amazing. Just don't connect cables to both holes simultaneously. The guitar came perfectly set up from the factory, the intonation, action and any calibration was spot on. Once I tuned it, it was close to impossible to put down. This is definitely an investment that passes down the generations as "inheritance." If you are interested in one of these beautiful guitars, please don't cheat yourself getting a "counterfeit" instrument. Even if you have to save for a while longer, it will be worth every cent and waiting minute. The pictures do not make them any justice. Purchased with expectation of needing setup (common with new guitars). Happy to report the guitar arrived in exclnt shape – virtually no setup needed. It plays smoothly, the string action is low and frets polished. This guitar's finish is impressive – I could find no flaws, pretty amazing for such an affordable instrument. The pickups sound great, very clear – again amazing for inexpensive import. Tuners are pretty stable, no tuning issues to speak of. Ive played it through a few diff amps and it sounds awesome. Happy to recommend the Squier CV Starfire – awesome bang-for-buck with these.hatterasgear
Actually better than 4 stars but the strings were horrid. At first I thought it might be the tuners. I liked it so well I would have replaced them if necessary but a switch to quality strings fixed it immediately. I can't understand why they do this; it seems this would lead to lost sales and returns from the beginner and intermediate players it is aimed at. The build is excellent. The shape is far more ergonomic than any other hollow or semi- hollow body especially if you set down to play. I've wanted one of these since the last millennium. The original was always too rich for me. I play acoustic almost exclusively but I changes coming. I gave away a Gib 135 a few years ago because I never bonded with it. Sound: Fender pick ups sound good with good range on the pots. Set up out of the box needed no adjustment. Intonation was good, action set up low no strings buzzing or dead notes. Very little fret sprout and have not dressed. Features: Body is comfortable to hold heavier than I thought but OK. Finish on guitar is very nice, no extra glue or uneven binding areas. No over spray. Neck a little sticky I may hit it with a little steel wool#0000 to get rid of that new finish stickiness. Ease of Use: as for as sounds I play clean and it sounded great in my Tube amp and also my Fender 40 watt Champion. Value: Worth buying. The Wow Factor: guitar was appealing because of the limited hollow bodies in the price range Overall: I've been looking at this guitar for awhile and finally pulled the card out. No regrets at all. 1st thank you to zZounds for the quick service as usual. I recently went to buy a different guitar from the so called "Friend" site because Z didn't have one and paid for a new guitar and they shipped me something worst then a blem. Broken from being dropped and wrapped in bubble wrap. Someone else returned and sent to me as new. New guitars don't come wrapped in bubble wrap and damaged that a blind man could see. They lost a customer needless to say. The Starcaster WOW! Very nice, no adjustments needed. Played for 2 days at this time and can't believe the value. I have an Ibi Hollow body cost twice as much and the quality of this guitar is on par. Has a good rockin sound, clean, Tuning pegs appear solid, pots have decent range , neck reminds me of a tele I have 9.5 and thin, really sounds good and looks great. Go for it and add another to your collection.Peter

Up to this point, my guitar collection has been all solid bodies. (four Strats, a Tele, Les Paul, SG and Firebird. I've been craving a good semi-hollow. But the ES-335 is just too expensive for my tastes. The Epis, and Ibenez clones were too low-end. I was looking for something in between. This turned out to be the perfect choice. First, the fit and finish was flawless. A beautiful cherry red with lovely grain showing. (Not quite as 'stripey' as the photo–much prettier, I think.) The binding was perfect. I couldn't find anything wrong with the finish or construction–not a single blemish anywhere. Acoustically, it sounded lovely. Rich and clean. Plugging it into my Vox AC15, I fell in love. I found I could dial in everything from super clean chords to wonderful, nasty, dirty blues. (I remembered seeing Son Seals play one of these on the cover of Midnight Son, and I could recognize the tone.) Dialing it back, I could get warm BB-esque tones, and playing with the tone knob got me a pretty convincing Woman Tone. As for the neck–I felt instantly at home with it.The 9.5 radius felt perfect, and the neck wasn't too thin or too thick. This guitar is really an extraordinary value. Even the case is solid and well-made. At about 1/3 the price of the ES-335, it is incredibly impressive. I would recommend having a look at one of these to anyone looking for that semi-hollow sound.Dante1963

I have to admit that I did try one in a Music store and I was very impressed. The sound,look,and feel are so good. The neck is rounder and a bit heftier than the original but is still very comfortable to play. It will kick butt in most styles and is a keeper. I own a 1970 Starfire and it is still a monster guitar,but as I mentioned above,the originals have a smaller U neck and full size humbuckers. The lacquer finish is now age cracked a bit but the guitar is in very good condition. I am a big Fan of the higher end Guild electrics and acoustics. Play one and you will be a Fan too.Wayne

Warm, airy, articulate pickups. Incredibly smooth to play. Beautiful appointments and finish. This is a beautifully made guitar. The pickups have a great texture to their sound. I love the master volume knob. The tremolo is smooth. The inlay work and binding are clean. Just kinda stunned with the build quality and playability. The nut on mine was binding just a bit, so I took it to my luthier. When I got it back, he was full of praise for the instrument. He said it was on par with any US Guild he had worked on. That's high praise indeed. Quick setup and the action is low and smooth. Can't put it down.
I play bass, but I’m occasionally called on to play rhythm guitar, particularly in a church setting. I bought this for its size (comfortable to strum, but not heavy or bulky) and for its versatility (the split coil gives so many sound options). In addition, I’ve been really pleased with its looks – the colour is a deep, rich, “woody” red: not at all brash or plasticy. The tone (unplugged) is fabulous, and through a practice amp it’s naturally clear & bright. Overdriven, it’s therefore easy to control your sound – unlike some semi-hollows, more gain doesn’t have to mean a muddy sound. The setup out of the box was ok, though the action was a bit high for me. But it’s a quality guitar, so even I have managed to adjust it with no problems. I wasn’t sure about it at first, but even after a couple of weeks I’ve really warmed to it – it has personality, style and grace.
Set up to perfection.. plays like a dream…. Sound and feel is perfect for 60s jangle, but then softens beautifully for those early 70s proggy sounds that I don’t normally own up to . Bought at the same time as my Furch. Red… I have spoken of the first class service that I received in more detail in that review, and I shall spare you a repeat, as I am usually a curmudgeonly old bu**er, and it’s not normally in my nature to speak so highly and warmly of someone twice in one day!!!😃😃😃😃😃Martin K.

I got my Sheraton almost two years ago as a christmas gift, and I have played it more than any of my other guitars since then! It is a fantastic semihollow that feels perfectly suited to my playing style and my size (I'm 6'0"). It is comfortable to play sitting down or standing up, but I must say that for a semihollow, it is quite heavy. I love the classic twin humbucker, 4 knob, 3 way switch configuration. Usually I would use pedals to get my tones, but with this guitar I find myself just getting my amp to break up naturally, and play around with the tone knobs and volume knobs. I can get tons of different sounds that way, and I haven't used my pedalboard in a long time. My Sheraton in particular is quite bright, I don't know if all of them are like that, but mine is. This to me is great as I love bright guitars that can thicken up when turning the tone knob down. In fact, I keep my tone knobs turned down to about 7 or 8 90% of the time, and I turn them up when it's time to really dig in. I find that it can do blues comfortably, but it can also do hard rock and I even play fast Metallica songs complete with solos on it. When I got it, I immediately took off the not so great looking pickguard and put 11-50 strings on it. It was great out of the box, but I still needed to make a full setup just to get it to how I like my guitars set up. But still it felt too blingy for my personal taste, so I changed the gold screws on the pickup rings to black screws, and the gold knobs to vintage looking black ones. Now it looks so good that I sometimes catch a glimpse of it when sitting on my desk and feel the urge to go "oh yeah!" Some things that I don't like: the finish is quite plasticky and can get sticky after a while, plus it's not as perfect as I would have wanted. The neck has a very agressive thin shape that took me a while to get comfortable in, and still to this day will feel alien if I've been playing any of my other guitars. It is quite heavy, I haven't weighted it to see, but it is my heaviest guitar, and all of my other electrics are solidbodies. The pickup selector broke about two months in. Lastly, the split coils feel a bit useless to me, and the volume knobs have much less resistance to being turned than the tone knobs, which I imagine comes from the push pull functionality. But all of those are nitpicks for such a great guitar. I highly recommend the Sheraton. It is a fantastic guitar. Great sounds, great looks, and you get the classic ES-335 versatility that session musicians love. You really can't beat it at this price!
As with most people, I'm hesitant to buy guitars sight unseen through the mail. But with the current state of the world, that's becoming more and more the norm. Luckily the guitar arrived in absolutely perfect condition and set up nicely. The Red is really deep and rich. I know it's cliche, but the pictures really don't do it justice. I've been on a quest all these years for a guitar with a neck that properly fits my small hands and extremely short thumbs (nearly impossible to roll my thumb over the top of the neck ala Hendrix). I was torn between the Sheraton and the Casino, but decided on the Sheraton. When the next 48 month 0% promotion rolls around I may get the Casino as well. The tone of the Sheraton is very surprising for this price range. I also own a Clapton Strat (almost 3 times the price), and I absolutely enjoy the sound of the Sheraton more, as hard as that might be to believe. Obviously that is subjective. However, the place the Sheraton really shines for me is the neck! It fits my hands better than any other guitar I've ever played. Rolling my thumb over the top still isn't an easy proposition, but at least it's in reach (no pun intended), and with some practice I'll eventually get there. On the Strat it was impossible. I mainly play on the neck pickup, and it has a nice creamy, warm sound combined with my Blues Deluxe Reissue. I've never owned a 335 type guitar, as I always thought they were for jazz, but this guitar is very versatile. It's still a crapshoot with ordering through the mail, but I highly recommend the Sheraton if you (like me) can't afford a Gibson.Patrick B
Overall: Ive had this guitar a little over 24 hours now and cant put it down!! I got the blemished wine red model and the only blemish it had was a smidge of paint got on the binding where it meets the neck, i mean you had to really look close to see it and zZounds being the grandslam hitters that they are knocked 100 bucks off the price!!!I recieved it in a 1 1/2 days ( doesnt get any faster than that) and straight out of the box the action was perfect the intonation was spot on! The D string was maybe a cent out of tune. The guitar in wine red with the gold hardware is visually stunning, build quality you ask? Its built like a tank from the grover tuners, bone nut, loctone bridge and tail piece with a 3 way toggle you can litterally abuse and the probuckers sound amaZzing in full humbucker and coil split. This is a 1,000 + quitar with an intermediate price tag! Got to take a minute to shout out to the guys and gals at zZounds this is the third guitar that ive bought from them and they just keep knockin it out of the park!!! I will never shop for a guitar any where else you guys are first ballad hall of famers all the way!!! If your sick of the used car salesman approach and being followed around the lot, zZounds is the answer, they are the most professional ive ever dealt with period. Overall: The first guitar I bought myself was a PRS SE Custom 24, it was an amazing guitar especially for a beginner. As I played more I found that I didn't like the finished neck, the fret work wasn't as good as it could be and the pickups weren't the tone I wanted.So I started looking around. A friend of mine showed me his PRS CE and after playing it I was sold. His was the matte black, but when I went on zZounds I saw several colorways that I liked. A few of them had pictures of the actual guitar, so I picked one that had beautiful figuring.The neck, fretwork, and setup are all amazing. This guitar played perfect right out of the box. This is a beautiful guitar and if it were 1000$ it would be well worth it. For 2300$ though I would like to have some inlays that don't look like cheap plastic and not have fret buzz. The buzz could be fixed with a set up but for 2300$ I feel like it should come set up. On the back the slots for the cover plates are not routed so they just sit on top. Not a deal breaker but this does make it look a little incomplete. Overall it sounds great minus the fret buzz. I'd say no better than a se model and not worth the extra money unless you just want a bolt on neck. I prefer bolt on or through necks which is why I bought the ce but I plan to return it and either get an ernie ball music man or an American strat.Not satisfied with AMS quality c
I bought this because I was in the market for a US guitar and I already had a US Strat. I was thinking about a Gibson Les Paul Classic and then PRS showed up on my radar. I did some research and decided to play both. I have an Epiphone Les Paul so I thought I would prefer the Gibson. I played this guitar first and the Les Paul just didn't feel right after that. I bought this one a couple weeks later. After having it for an extended period (12 hours) I started thinking about selling my Strat and buying a Silver Sky. This guitar just felt so good I didn't want anything else. The neck feel is fantastic. The tone options are amazing The color is sooooooo much more vibrant in person than in pictures It is sitting in the rack in the other room while I type this and I wish I was playing it right now. This is currently my favourite electric guitar. It has such a wide tonal range. Play soft finger style and you can get soft blues tones. Pul on the strings and it really twangs! Played with a pick you can easily push it from teang to breakup. Overall volume overall tone and two independent volumes gives great range with even small twists of the dials. Playability is great if you prefer a wider Gibson style neck. Great for sweet clean slide playing too.Vincent
The bad – very thin packing material in the shipping box & it arrived with the box open. There was a nasty quarter size ding and cracked finish on the back. MF took care of that issue. The Good – came out of the box perfectly set up for my playing style – Classic style rock and Blues. I mainly play thru a Fender twin reverb & The P-90s sound amazing to my ears. The strings feel like 12s but not sure. I use a Ibanez overdrive and then a touch of chorus when playing clean. Stays in tune well and the bigsby works as it should. I'm semi-pro This is the first time in my adult life I've bought a guitar that didn't come with a case but I had a spare archtop case that works fine. All of my guitars are made in the U.S, but this one plays and looks just as nice ( except the ding) I can't imagine anyone kicking this guitar out of their herd. Absolutely stunning guitar! The p-90s are Hot and clear, really good low end response and the bridge is nice a twangy how I like it. So glad I bought it and the neck feels super great. The nick is a little chunky on the sides but nothing you can't get used too. Only complaint is the tuning stability, it isn't bad just isn't ideal. Nothing a little lube on the nut can't fix. I have one but from a different retailer. MF did not carry this brand when I got mine. These are the real deal or real Gibson product line from the same folks in Kalamazoo who refused to relocate. The quality is fantastic. The tone is genuine. My 535 is my fave semi-hollow humbucker 23.75 inch scal guitar I have. You can tell these guitars are hand made. You're not getting a guitar assembled from the band saw body guy, or the neck blank guy, or from some fellow who just mans a saw / sander for their entier shift. Each guitar is luthier made. The older models even have an ebony pick guard. If thats an option then MF should get that instead of the plastic.David Seattle

This one stands the test of time. What it does , it does the best in its class. Tom Petty incorporated his personal ideas into this particular design. The first thousand models were signature guitars and are now worth a lot of money. Rickenbacker however did not stop producing this guitar after the signature run because they knew a great thing was worth keeping. Tom Petty was not happy with that decision but it worked out wonderful for the rest of us . One suggestion to everyone is to buy a Janglebox pedal and play it through that in order to achieve the best potential so it delivers the purest classic shimmering chime 🎶😎🎶Billbass1
I'd been looking for a Rickenbacker for a while and kind of got this one on a whim based on availability. It's genuinely my favourite guitar. I play in a noise/metal band, and the versatility and tonality makes this a power house and goes way beyond the stereotypical Rickenbacker sound. It's definitely a smaller guitar, which takes some getting used to, but that makes it easier to use without breaking your shoulders. The smaller body also gives a very distinct characteristic in its sustatin, which means it takes pedals and distortion exceedingly well.
This guitar is not only gorgeous to look at, it sounds and plays like no other. I've been coveting this particular model & finish (360 Fireglo) for years, as they are hard to find — and worth the wait & money – no question. If you are new to Rickenbacker, they have a very unique feel that is both responsive and… WARNING, it makes it extremely hard to put down. The pick ups have a unique sound, superb range and versatility. You can add any effect to that and they just deliver out-of-this world tones. The little fifth "blend" knob is a great tool to balance your pick up sound. The more I play with this, the more stuff I discover. You can do rhythm or lead on ANY style, with 2 full octaves fretboard and easy reach to the highest frets, you can see why so many savvy guitarist have at least one of these beauties in their collection. BTW, this guitar comes with 2 cable jacks. The Rick "O" Sound (the hole for the cable on the bottom) will only work with a stereo cable when connected to two different inputs (amps/mixer). If you connect a regular cable to the Rick"O"Sound your neck pick up will not sound, it is not broken, it is because each pick up goes to a separate speaker with that mode (and it sounds like a fantastic beast). If you use the top guitar hole "standard" you will be good to go, because it still sounds amazing. Just don't connect cables to both holes simultaneously. The guitar came perfectly set up from the factory, the intonation, action and any calibration was spot on. Once I tuned it, it was close to impossible to put down. This is definitely an investment that passes down the generations as "inheritance." If you are interested in one of these beautiful guitars, please don't cheat yourself getting a "counterfeit" instrument. Even if you have to save for a while longer, it will be worth every cent and waiting minute. The pictures do not make them any justice. WAY better than I expected. I wanted an inexpensive yet playable 335 style axe, and after researching extensively, settled on this one. When it arrived, I gave it intense scrutiny, and after playing it for a bit decided to do the following: polish the frets (they were a little "gritty" on bends) and LOWER the action a bit. I didn't have to touch the neck truss rod at all! The fit and finish were perfect. I then changed strings going to my normal 11's (it comes with 10's) and hemp oiled the fretboard in the process. Then I intonated it…it was close out of the box, but needed a slight tweak. Then I played it for 4 hours at band rehearsal and grew increasingly impressed with the tonal characteristics of the pups Don't let anyone tell you that the pups are in need of replacing. They are fine, and have just enough "bite" to cut through the band mix. I happen to like ceramic pups over Alco's. We do everything from Dire Straits to George Benson to Frank Sinatra to the Stones and George Strait. This axe can handle them all. I particularly like having only ONE volume and tone pot…no one has the time in a live setting to adjust 4 knobs until the "sweet spot" tone mix is achieved. Studios? Yes. Live? No. Next, I installed a LesTrem vibrato and roller bridge I had and they literally just dropped in. All said, I love this guitar. I have Fenders, A custom made Carvin DC-127 and have also had Gibsons and Epiphones. They are all fine instruments. But the neck on this gem stands above them all. And I like the medium frets over the medium jumbo's that most manufacturers put on their guitars. It's a great little player and definitely a keeper. But if you find one, snap it up because they are telling me that the next shipment won't be for 6 months!!! I had to call three sellers before I could find someone who had them in stock. Ended up with AMS, who did a fine job in the sales end.Jazzer John
Overall: I've had this for about 6 months now, so the honeymoon period is over so this isn't a review of, Oh I just got this and it's great, no, It takes time to develop into your style and your environment. So, after 6 months of playing this guy (or girl – I name my guitars) this has been a real pleasure to play. I wanted a semi-hollow and at $300 I figured I couldn't lose, and I was right. Well made, good fitment of knobs, although I did have to tighten the input jack. As for tuning, it keeps tune real well if kept in the house, no problems at all. If I leave it in the garage (where I practice) it needs a little lovin to get it back in tune, granted, this in Vegas where my garage hits 100 degrees easily so that's actually not bad, seriously, it's not bad. The one thing I'd say is a con to this guitar are the pickups but ONLY if you drive your amp hard, they tend to get muddy. Changing these out is a major PIA but I may try at some point. For now though, it really is a good buy and a fun guitar to play.
I've been a pro live player for nearly 50 years. This is my first Ibanez. I bought it just to have a 335 style axe for variety. When it arrived, and I unboxed it, I have to say I was pleasantly surprised at the fit and finish of the guitar. But the proof is in the playing. After playing it for a few hours and making a few minor adjustments to bridge height, neck tension, et al, I fell in love with it. Forget what people say about the pickups…they're just fine. A pickup is just wire and magnets, and all the hype about tone differences is just that…hype. Some pups are louder than others, but that's why amps come with volume and tone controls. Use 'em!. These pups are a nice "in between" of single coil "bark" and hummer "deep." Which makes this axe able to handle anything from jazz to country. I can't leave a good thing alone, so I mounted Hipshot locking tuners that I had in my parts box on it, a new Tusq nut, and found a perfect old Bowen Handle trem to mount on the TOM studs. Then I polished the frets, gave a file to the fret ends (some small fret sprout) and dressed them… now the beast is comparable to my Carvin DC-127 koa body $1500 guitar in ease of playability. I'm serious. This axe is a sleeper worth three times the cost. I especially like the fact thatit only has one volume and one tone control…who has time to adjust FOUR knobs when playing live, right. This is easy to use, easy to reach, and the pots are just fine without scratch of slop.expertprinter0
