Best Jazz Guitar Under $500 (Jan 2023 Update)

I am a professional musician/songwriter (also a Berklee grad-1981). While guitar is not the principal instrument I was trained on (piano/keyboard are my primary), I have been playing guitar on and off since I was a teen back in the 1970s. However, over the last couple of years I've been putting a lot more dedicated practice time on improving my guitar skills for both for songwriting and solo guitar playing. I've been particularly focused mastering the layout of the guitar fretboard so I can put all my harmonic knowledge to work on the instrument, something I wish I did many years ago, but better late than never! I purchased this guitar because I wanted an instrument that was reasonable, easy to play, and enjoyable to listen to. I tried guitars in a variety of price ranges and was surprised at how much more I liked the F335 than guitars 2-3xs more costly. Although this guitar has a laminate rather than solid spruce top, it has a clear yet warm sound that I find really pleasing sonically. The fretboard is also very comfortable and easy to play which adds to the enjoyment of making music with it. I was so impressed with this instrument that I recently also purchased a Yamaha FS800 to use more for fingerstyle playing while using the F335 for flat picking. Those are a nice combination of instruments that cover all my guitar playing needs at this time. Regardless of what level you are playing I highly recommend this (and the FS800) for anyone looking for a very reasonable option that you can use for playing and songwriting.Scott F.

First of all, I own 2 Yamaha Guitars, the F335 being the first one I have owned. For an entry-level dred, you could not ask for a better quality, easy to play right out of the box, althought I would recommend a set-up with any instrument right out of the box with the addition of a bone saddle. Did this with this one and it brought its already rich tone to another level. I only give it 4 stars because I have owned a number of high-end instruments. If you are a brand new player, or one who is in the market just to have a dred to beat around with, look no further. This is the one for you.Chris

I purchased this guitar while it was on sale so can't really complain. There are several QC issues I would expect better from Yamaha even in a cheap imported product. Fit and overall build seems solid but there are odd finish issues that make no sense. At the neck joint there seems to be the remains of a tape line from the body to the neck all around the joint. This neck feels quite thin and comfortable but again, the finish is inconsistent. Just before the headstock, the finish goes from semi-gloss to mat in a very visible way that can also be felt in the hand. As I said in the beginning, cheap guitar, cheap price, hard to complain.Robert

I'll second the review that says he'll leave her stock. I do like it as is as well, and I also hear Strat/Teleish sounds out of this thing. I thought when buying it would be a heavy rock type guitar not so it's very fender single coil like w/ out the hum… nice! I will say the amp makes loads of difference tube vs solid state. It sounds great through a tube amp and mehh through the other. Had some fret buzz that needed adjusted out but other then that I like it. It's a good buy in either color I'd say.👍🏼🤘🏼✌🏼Brado

Who knew Monoprice sold quality guitars! I ve been buying cables,adapters, and lots of other stuff from Monoprice for years. I had no clue they sold guitars. This ES335 clone came next day shipping at no extra charge and it plays like a dream. I m a professional musician, so I can tell you that for $199 you ll never get another guitar like this for the price. It s fully binded front and back. A beauty. I m going to shave a couple fret ends, but they re really not that bad. A killer deal.Jillian

I was excited about getting this guitar because I am so impressed with the Idyllwild acoustic I purchased last year. I was very disappointed with this Boardwalk hollow body electric. Almost all frets had sharp unfinished ends that needed to be filed and polished. The nut was improperly cut for the strings making it impossible to stay in tune. The pick guard was attached with oversized screws that were not properly tightened because they were too long. Needless to say intonation had to be adjusted. No amount of truss rod and bridge adjustment would clear some fret buzz when set to normal string height at the 12th fret. If this guitar went through your California set-up shop someone should be looking for a different career. The general fit and finish is pretty good and the electronics seem to be ok. I’ve been playing, maintaining, and repairing guitars for over 50 years and was able to make this guitar playable. If someone without my knowledge would have returned it as unplayable.Larry

As an owner of 3 other Indio guitars–Cali Classic, Retro Classic, and Helix–I know the quality of the Indio line, but I was unprepared for this beauty. Frets level and smooth, D'Addario strings, flawless transparent red finish, flawless binding–body and neck, set neck, decent tuners. Great playability. I LOVE THIS GUITAR!William

For what it is – a very cheap, small, travel guitar, this is great. You'll need a strap as it doesn't sit high enough on your leg to be comfortable to play. Also – the action was high, but a bit of adjusting with a belt sander on the saddle and that came down well. The scale length is short, but plays OK – takes a bit of getting used to from my full-sized acoustics. Putting a capo on it and making chords further up the neck is tight, but OK. Sound is very good for a travel guitar of this size. This would be a great kids guitar or even for an adult beginner. I did put 11s on it – sounds a bit weaker, but is fine, and that's what I use on my other acoustics. I had a washburn rover before – this is better, though not as small, but worth the extra size, I think. I have a GS Mini, which is much better, but a good bit larger, and much more expensive. Tuner works good, haven't tried plugging it in yet. Bought this for the boat – seems pretty sturdy.Alexander

I bought this guitar because I have chronic pain and am a small lady and found that even smaller acoustic guitars are too big and bulky and unplayable. I like to play high up on the neck so wanted a cutaway and occasionally perform so having an electro-acoustic version means it ticks all the boxes. When play acoustically it does sound really tinny, there's not getting away from that. It also tends to be unbalanced toward the neck end, so I need a strap to keep it in place. But it is much more playable for practice and I am almost managing to play bar chords again. Not chance on a normal size guitar. It has a full fret board just smaller but not too small.Michelle S.

I ordered this for my pastors wife who wanted to learn a new instrument. She is tiny ( less that 5 ' tall) and a full size guitar would not fit her body type. I was shocked when the guitar came in. The photos on line do not do the finish justice. I was even more shocked when I played it. Most student guitars in this price point have horrible action. The set up on this from the factory was great. It was very easy to play and the sound was extremely good for a thin body acoustic . Then we plugged it in. I could not believe the sound quality of the electronics in this guitar. On Sunday, I pulled out after church and let the music team take turns with it. Everyone that played it raved about every aspect of this little guitar. The instrument also came with a quality gig bag. The material was thick, padding was good, the zippers and hardware appeared to by sturdy. Even more importantly, she loved the guitar. I highly recommend that you consider this one for your beginner or intermediate guitar student. Both Children and small adults should be pleased with this one.Greg H.

I purchased this guitar for my 11 year old daughter. I wanted to find a quality instrument that is smaller in size, easy to play, and stays in tune. I have owned other Yamaha guitars before, and they are a great guitar for the price. The Yamaha FG JR1 did not disappoint! The guitar is easy to play, stays in tune and it sounds pretty good for a small guitar. The strings do feel a little heavy for a beginner. I would definitely recommend changing the strings to a lighter gauge for a beginning player. I recommend the Ernie Ball Earthwood Silk and Steel Extra Soft 10-50. The resonance is unbelievable given that it's not made from solid wood and the neck is so comfortable, perfect for kids who are learning. This is my third guitar from Better Music and they never disappoint me. The guitars are well set up and the packaging is unbelievable every time. I bought this on the 7th birthday of one of my twin girl. I was on a tight budget of around $100 and then I thought to speak to one of the representatives at SamAsh. After having a talk with him I was convinced to get a good guitar to start even though I have to stretch my budget. Since my family is a newbie in musical instruments i am happy that my girl is interested in learning music. She is very happy and we are thinking to take her to few lessons. Really awesome guitar for beginners. The action was a bit high for me but it was easily adjustable. Been using this guitar to play in Central Park and it has great resonance and sound. Definitely a great quality acoustic guitar for someone starting out and doesn't want to break the bank. And the guys at Sam Ash were super helpful helping me pick it out!HUNTER

I'm a beggining player, and so I went into the store not knowing anything about guitars. I was instantly helped by an employee, and was drawn to this guitar. It is great quality and sounds wonderful. A very good starter pack. Through time, the the strap and soft guitar case will be upgraded to a strap of personal choice and a hard case for better protection during transport, but, they are fine for now. The guitar itself is of very good quality and could easily last a lifetime with proper care. The tuner is a necessary piece of equipment and the extra set of strings is a welcome idea. I believe this purchase represents the higher-end of an entry-level guitar package. One note about Guitar Center. We took the guitar to Guitar Center for tuning, fully expecting to pay a fee. Overall, the feeling of the store is that of the old style family owned business. It was refreshing. The staff won't steer you toward the "slower" moving stock like big-box stores are now doing. The kids were "blown-away" with the comprehensive array of instruments and of the staff encouraging them to "give it a whirl" even though they knew a sale wouldn't be made that day. We weren't charged for the tuning and we left with the staff encouraging us to "come back anytime". We plan to… In just an hour or so, Guitar Center established themselves as the retailer of choice for any further purchases of instruments or repairs. I believe we made a good choice selecting the Yamaha Starter Pack and with Guitar Center handling the transaction.Stan

I was on the hunt for a Jazzmaster for awhile, because I love Offsets. I mostly play Jaguars and wanted to branch out. I bought this mostly because of the color and matching headstock. I’ve never gotten along with the ****** bridge pickup in the Jazzmaster and this one is no different, but I expected that. I’ll end up dropping a P-90 in the bridge slot, so no worries. The setup was pretty nice right out of the box except for the strings which are anemic 9’s. After a swap to 11’s this thing is a beast, stays in tune well and sounds much better. Super stoked on this guitar.Jeff

I must say that I am pretty pleased indeed with my purchase of a LP Blue Jazzmaster from CME. Firstly, the service and help I received from CME was top shelf. They were very helpful and very attentive to my questions. Now, to the guitar. The fit and finish of mine were quite good for this price range. In fact, I have personally handled US made Fender guitars that did not have such a clean setup. No significant finish flaws or sharp fret ends here. Mine plays great. One thing that I was pleasantly surprised about was the Alnico pickups. At this price, I was ready to potentially have to install better pickups. However, having played it and enjoyed the pickups, I will be leaving them alone. Jazzmasters often have complaints of neck angle and bridge setup. This one is pretty good as is, but I may have a try at a small shim and heavier strings. For now, it is good. I am completely pleased with my purchase, particularly at this price point. Overall: First impression:Out of the box, this thing is downright beautiful. The Candy Apple Red just shines in the light without a flaw on it. In my personal opinion, it's the only one that the Tortoise Shell pickguard really works on and that's why I picked the color. Not disappointed. The Pao Ferro fretboard is gorgeous.I had the same Elite pickups in an old GAX 70 that got destroyed and the great sound out of them didn't catch me off guard, but the quality of the tuners did. They're smooth, just tight enough, and not catchy or jumpy at all. I actually get to keep a stock set for a while. I learned how to tie a "locking knot", so no need to replace them.The switches and knobs feel good, too. Nice and clicky switch, and smooth turns from the pots. The balance and feel are extremely nice, and the neck profile is just butter.I can't really say a bad thing about this guitar as it sits right out of the box, and then when I remember that it was only $199 it just blows my mind. This will go up on stage with me if I ever get up there again, no doubt.P.S. – We love you, zZounds!Robert

I own and have owed dozens of guitars. Many makes and models. This includes hollow, semi-hollow and solids. I have built and rebuilt many. With that said…this APXT2 is a fine "baby" guitar. Of course one can not expect it to sound like the full size…even with the pick-up. The bigger the body the potential lower richer tone. I play it almost every day for practicing. It is very light weight and does provide good sound. It is perfect for travel. Anyone that plays guitar could enjoy owing one of these.lottaplenty

I got this travel guitar so I could have something to do at job site during lunch. In my little Toyota truck it fits quite comfortably in the driver seat. I choose this traveler due to size, value vs other little guitars. Also I liken having built in tuner plug in capabilities. I choose it against a baby Taylor, little Martin. Sound wise apxt2 sounds pretty good. It doesnt sounds as crisp as other travelers but thats why I have my high end guitar at home. Using this little guy has helped up my game.bojackson63

I bought this out of curiosity. Didn't expect much, got more. Pure acoustic, it's not much. I have played it every day trying to beat some tone into it. It has improved but I'm probably just getting used to the tone and accepting it how it is. Like all new string instruments the nut requires some use and powdered graphite so the strings will move freely and tune properly. This little guitar really likes standard tune best, tension and tone wise. I also think best tone is achieved with a soft touch, pick or fingers. Plugged in, it comes to life. I have been using a Bose S1 Pro and couldn't be happier. I think it will get a lot of use around the house, on outdoor adventures, road trips, etc. Really can't imagine I would use it as a primary guitar for a gig, but it might be effective for a particular miced sound or visual effect.LW

For the many guitarists who have long hankered for a Jazzmaster this is a dream come true. In fact when, back in 2012 rumors and 'spy' photos of these started appearing on the web many thought that the story had to be bogus and the pix Photoshop creations. But no, they appeared on the market just as we dreamed about and more than lived up to — no, make that *much* more than lived up to — expectations. Newbies and guitar novices have to know something about the Jazzmaster (and its stablemate, the Jaguar) before jumping into the pool however. These are not (and never were) just 'pick up and play' guitars like Leo Fender's early designs — the Telecaster and the Stratocaster. They are sophisticated musical tools that take careful and knowledgeable setup so that they play right. I'll share some details… The Jazzmaster is centered around what Leo Fender called a "floating Tremolo" system. Basically it balances the tension of the tuned-to-pitch strings against a spring and "floats" in this sea of tension. The guitar's bridge is a separate piece, but it too "floats" in the sense that it is not rigidly affixed to the instrument's body. When the trem arm is moved to raise or lower pitch the bridge rocks back and forth. The above freaks some players out as you 'll see in some reviews — they think their guitar is either broken and poorly made. Neither is the case. That is how it was designed to work, and work it does. Beautifully. When the Jazzmaster was designed back in 1958 — It was then viewed by Fender as the company's top of the line guitar — guitarists used much heavier strings than they commonly do today. Playing styles were different then too. -String bending was not commonly done. And thus a Jazzmaster works best when heavier strings are put on it today. Indeed most all the complaints about "bridge buzzing" and strings popping out of the bridge's shallow grooves simply disappear with heavier strings. (I replaced the .9s that oddly came on the guitar with more appropriate .11s before I even played it!) This guitar says "Squier" on the headstock, not Fender. Squier is the moniker for Fender's lesser priced imported guitars. The Vintage Modified series is actually made by Cort in Indonesia. Cort's factory is fully modern, using computer-driven routing and shaping equipment. Their guitars are in this reviewer's opinion as good as any made anyplace, foreign or domestic. There was a time when Fender's "Squier" line meant "good for the price." No longer. Today better Cort-built Squiers are the equal to their "Fender" branded brothers and sisters. The Jazzmaster has a sound and feel all its own. Though designed for "jazz" it became more popular among early rock, and then "surf", instrumentalists. Its heyday was the heyday of such music. Since then the Jazzmaster has gone on to fame in other styles of rock music but often those guitars have been highly modified with a different (although sometimes similar appearing) pickup design. Some even do without the things that made a "Jazzmaster" a Jazzmaster – the floating tremolo and the 2nd, "rhythm," circuit. There is nothing wrong with that, but Squier's Vintage Modified Jazzmaster is much closer to the "real" thing — its modifications being basically an updated fingerboard shape (which allows for deeper string bending) and the eliminating of two feature — the "mute" and the trem lock — that players found not to their liking and often either ignored or removed from their guitars. So, if having a REAL Jazzmaster is has long been YOUR dream, here is your dream come true. The Squier Vintage Modified Jazzmaster is truly deserving of the five stars I gave it. It is a total and absolute winner!Duckman

I have been wanting a Jazzmaster for years, so when I saw the Squier prices starting to increase, I took the plunge. Mine is Sonic Blue, but it appears slightly lighter in color than Fender's original color. It arrived with a decent setup, requiring only a slight truss rod adjustment and floating bridge adjustment. The intonation was good, and all the electronics functioned properly. I like the somewhat beefy neck profile, and the frets were level and smooth, with no sharp edges. I was happy to see that the strings were properly aligned on the neck, and centered over the pickup pole pieces. There were a couple of cosmetic issues with the paint, such as a paint run resulting in a bubble, a couple of small spots near the neck pocket devoid of paint, and a small split in the paint on the edge of the body. I considered sending it back for a replacement, but I was afraid that the next one might have string alignment problems that are common on Squiers (high "E" string too close to the fretboard edge) or other issues. This guitar just sounds good! It has a chimey ring when played clean, through my Fender Deluxe Reverb. I have had no problems with the bridge or saddles, but I use 11's for strings. The only other issue is that the tone and volume rollers on the rhythm circuit are barely accessable, being flush with the pickguard. I took a look under the hood, and there is no room for adjustment. The vibrato bar keeps falling out whenever it wants to, but the system works smoothly and sounds good. The floating bridge and threaded saddles take some getting used to, but they are true to the original design and are just fine by me, if used with heavy strings. These guitars are not for everybody, but they produce a sound that you just can't get with any other Fender. The bodies are made from basswood, which is not my first choice due to the soft nature of the wood and the weight. But these Jazzmasters are a lot of bang for your buck, and are a blast!Jimmy J

Hey Jazzmasters are a different beast. Plain and simple. I first tried one because I love Magic Slim (RIP) and the Teardrops. Great blues band for 30 something years. When I first heard him it was like "Where is that cool sound coming from?". Nice different with PU switching and just a bite to his sound. So once I stated playing I realized it was the Jazzmaster with Slim's aggressive pick/finger approach. Nothing like it. I had a chance to ask him once how he kept the strings in the bridge and his reply was "Mustang". Not Mustang Sally but Mustang bridge. Try it as you may like it. If you don't you have not hurt anything. Before I put one on my '59 every time somebody sat in who popped strings or thought they were Albert Collins would knock the strings out of the grooves or off of the bridge entirely. I remember one guy who fashions himself as a local legend looking at my guitar afterwards and telling me it was broken. No, you just need to know what you are doing. Granted the grooves on that nearly 60 year old axe were fairly shallow. Anyway, with a Mustang bridge on it, no problemo. Almost bought a custom shop JM with a roller bridge and Bigsby on it that sounded pretty good but at 2k I just did not have the scratch. It sounded good too. And yes I have tried just about all of the other "solutions" mentioned here and of course you all have a point. But try the easy thing first, you may be perfectly happy. It will be interesting to see if the hardtail JM sounds like the tremolo one. That may solve a lot of problems for non-tremolo players. It is a cool guitar.Brindle

I bought this item for my daughter for her birthday and she loved it, it came to our door on time, it was playable and very attractive, unfortunately a relative with a drug problem stole it within a day and we haven't been able to afford a replacement. It would be wonderful if BCP would be willing to ship another to us, but either way, very good product. I'll buy another one in time when we are able to afford it.Steve H.

I would give it 20 stars if I could. I’m not going to say that I can even play guitar. I am still trying to learn. I have a Stratocaster that I have been learning chords and following the lessons in a book that is instruction for learning scale. But the semi-hollow body has such a wounderful tone that I have to get better. It is so Inspirational that I have been practicing more than I ever did with my strat. LOVE IT! Thank you.Ronald P.

Rogue Starter Guitar. Bottom line: NOT for beginners, requires too much set-up work and the strings feel very harsh on the fingers. I really tried to make it work. I was warned against buying cheap, but I thought I wanted something I could learn on, that I wouldn't be intimidated by, and eventually donate somewhere. But it was not playable out of the box. At first the tuning was awful. I figured out why they include an Allen wrench, and eventually put on my big-girl shoes and adjusted the truss rod. There are no instructions included with this guitar, so here's a clue: the access panel is in the front of the head stock, and you need to open the rhomboid black panel to access it. It was difficult to turn, but I adjusted it and made it sound a bit better, even though I was afraid of breaking it. However – the D-String tuning peg turned out to be totally defective, the screw threads were not lined up. How can I learn what it's supposed to sound like if it never sounds right? We are still in the middle of Covid-19, and I was unable to bring it back to Guitar Center for repair or replacement for weeks, so I tried to work with it and continued my self-guided lessons. As soon as the shop opened to walk-in customers, I returned it. I will not be replacing it with this model. It did serve its purpose in a way, I researched the guitar parts and repair, and took it upon myself to try to fix the issues, so now I am not intimidated by a guitar.J-net

Sorry, I hate to write negative reviews but… in what world are these the same guitars? From the picture, the Red Burst guitar looked like a dark mahogany color. Instead it's a bright red with a black edge. I'm sure that's some people's style, but not mine. It also won't stay in tune, and it's a pain to retune it every day I pick it up. I picked this guitar because I'm just starting to learn and didn't want to sink too much money into something I don't stick with. I'm not sure if I want to spend the extra money to upgrade to a better guitar, but I at least plan on taking it into the nearest guitar center store and see if I can exchange it for another color. Even that will be a pain, since I'll have to take it on the train and I don't have a case for it yet. I just wish the pictures were more accurate to the product!Rachel

I bought this for my friend that wants to learn how to play the guitar. I chose this for him because it's a nylon string so it wouldn't hurt his fingers which I noticed that most beginners easily gets frustrated when the steel strings hurts their fingers and then stops learning how to play the guitar. The guitar is well made and it looks like that it will last a long time of course with proper care. It's very light weight and compact so it's easy to maintain and store this guitar and also good for traveling.Rome

This Yamaha classical guitar is sold as a 'student' guitar but it's also a great travel size instrument. It's affordable, stays in tune, intonates well and has a great full body sound even though its a 3/4 size guitar. The nylon strings are easier on the fingers than steel strings and are great for someone just starting out. This one arrived with smooth fret ends and played perfectly right out of the box. At the base price, I was wondering how well made this would be but I wanted the white/ivory color so I bought it and I am glad I did. I had a guitar that cost a lot more and since I generally only keep one guitar (I am not a hoarder) I wanted to see which I liked better. Of the two, this one was easier for me to play. I like the big hollow-body feel and sound as well. The pickups would be the cheapest part but they are more than passable (though sound is personal and pickups can be changed). The guitar has a lot of heft (weight) to it in, what I consider, a good way. The neck is thicker than what I expected from Ibanez, although it is a hollow-body and not one of their metal guitars. Personally, I will change out the strings for Elixirs, the tuners for locking tuners, and put a Duesenberg tremolo (vibrato) on it (and maybe a roller bridge)(All personal preferences). But even now it is a great guitar to play. I did buy the Ibanez AS100C case for it here on MF (see comment there on the case). This is a great guitar and if anything happened to it I would buy another. It may sound expected in a commentary like this but I would say this is the best guitar I ever owned and I have owned all the brand names. That said, to each their own.BrazilBill

At this price I have no complaints. What I will say is replace the pickups with a name brand PAF style and you'll have a killer tone and a good wood.If I wanted a fancier fingerboard I'd go up a model or two but it's really not necessary. I'm also going to put locking tuners. If you get a AS93 with the Super 58 pickups you won't wanna change those after paying extra. I prefer to get Duncans or something equivalent. I don't feel bad tossing the original pickups on this model. I bought a blemish and still trying to find it!!JD

I play rhythm guitar in a small combo. Fit and finish on this guitar is excellent. The pick-ups sound very nice for my application. No neck dive. I recommend this guitar to anyone seeking a nice semi-hollow body guitar.Wayne

If is fine for a young kid 6-10 years old to see if they will have any interest in playing a guitar later on without putting a lot of money into it. The "case" that came with it was more like a plastic garment bag. Strap does NOT fit and only has one of the connections for it on the guitar. But the guitar alone was fine to hold for about 6 months to see if the child holds interest without spending a lot of money.smokey_littleone2004

Got the newer retro classic with 3 saddle bridge. Is a great value and equal to squier bullets for half the price. The newer indio needed a little work, but so did two squiers i have bought. The indio had rough fret ends and nut was a little tall. Sanded fret ends and sanded the bottom of the nut to reduce the height. Tuners are not smooth turning but stays in tune really well. Will remind again my squier bullets both needed much more work than this indio. Have sold both bullets and kept the indios. The indio plays great and is really slinky. I guess due to top load bridge. Indios are probably the best value out there.Travis

The guitar is surprisingly good considering the very low price. It did have one significant issue though that would make me hesitant to recommend it to a beginning guitar player. I'll start with the good stuff. The basic build of the guitar is very good. The finish is well done. The neck pocket is a good fit. The tuners are good. The nut was cut well. The included gig bag is similar to those I've seen selling in the $30-$50 range so it's a great value too. The electronics and pickups are the typical cheap and generic components that you find on guitars in the sub $200 price range. They aren't terrible though. The bridge design on mine is different than what was pictured. This doesn't matter to me but it does seem to vary. The bad thing on the guitar was the fret edges. I checked the level on the frets using a fret rocker and found them good but the edges were very rough. Since I do guitar tech work as a side gig, this was easy for me to fix but a beginning player might find this to be an issue.New User

This is a fantastic guitar for any beginner or someone who wants to see if a Telecaster is for them or to mod or even just to play. I've got Mexican and American Fenders and have had lower end Squiers. I'd say this guitar is the equal of the Bullet line but costs considerably less. The finish is flawless, electronics are fine, tuners are good and the neck is decent. The biggest problem I have with the guitar is the very small frets (not tall at all) and the sharpness of fret ends. The fretboard is listed as being rosewood but it's more likely what is called "engineered rosewood". It looks good and I like it but could be a little smoother. Buyers should note that Fender parts are not totally interchangeable. For instance, the neck plate is a different size so if you're planning to swap necks be aware. The pickguard holes and shape are not the same as Fender's, nor are the holes drilled appropriately for Fender's tuners. The ferrules fall out the back of the body when changing strings which is ridiculous and if you look in the holes you will notice that they are not drilled straight through the body. It appears the front and back of the body are actually two separate pieces of wood glued together with holes for strings drilled separately and they don't line up properly. That is unbelievably bad but you can still insert the strings so it doesn't negatively impact much. I would definitely buy this again and I'm even contemplating getting another.Steve

I purchased this guitar when it was $95 off full price. So that kind of makes it a worthwhile purchase. Definitely not worth full price in my opinion. Poorly packed with insufficient padding in the box allowed two of the strings to be bent during shipping. I assume this happened during shipping. They wouldnt send bent strings right? Thankfully they provided back up strings… The nut is very poorly crafted. You can visibly see burrs and imperfections in the nut that cause the strings to ring out of tune on certain parts of the fret board even after tuning. The pick-up selector nob fell right off first time I adjusted it. I will have to glue it myself. When the notes do play out true the triple pick ups sound better than the Peavy beginner guitar I used to have– Which only had two pickups and came in a similar starter package but was about half the price as this guitar. I think if I research how to fix some of the issues I can make it playable. But this guitar is far from playable out of the box. Fairly poor quality control.Cody

I was looking forward to ordering this as my first guitar after taking some classes a couple years back. The shipping was remarkably fast–however, when the product arrived the amp was completely broken. Upon plugging the guitar into the amp and strumming, it would make a horrendous scratching, broken sound. Plucking strings has the exact same effect, and occasionally the amp will cut off after a second of playing. I've tried adjusting the dials, turning overdrive on and off, I even bought a new cord thinking that was the issue to no avail. To make matters worse I have called the customer support number multiple times asking if I could recieve a partial refund, or ship back the amp for a functioning replacement–every time I'm left on hold before the call disconnects, if I can even get through to begin with. The only reason this isn't a one star review is that the guitar itself works fine and looks beautiful! I wouldn't reccomend buying the full set if they don't bother to make sure one of the most essential parts is functioning before shipping however.James B.

I worked outside for my father for a good many weeks while the guitar was on sale, and when I got it, I had mixed emotions. After a few days, the gig bag started to rip and now theres a big hole in it. Its still usable, but it isnt really well made. Also the bag isnt really protective. Its more decorative. The strings on it and the other ones were both junk, my local guitar shop guy told me that himself, but strings are moderately priced, and most of the time they last a while, so thats not much of a deal. The amp is lower end, and the cable that plugs into the amp and the guitar started to show copper wire around 2 weeks after purchase. It still works, but it should have lasted longer. And the stand on the amp didnt hold up at all, the plastic on it broke and now it wont angle so the sound comes at your face. But other than that its a good purchase, i would just suggest to just buy the guitar alone, and buy the amp separately, instead of the kit, but that may get expensive, so check out those options and compare them to this product and decide for yourself. My local guitar shop guy told me that the guitar itself is great quality though, but there are more expensive guitars out there, its a great guitar to start out with. Another side note, not relating to the quality of the guitar, but for beginners, how to learn how to play it fast. I suggest buying Rocksmith 2014 with this for PC, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One and other game consoles. Although it is expensive, the cable that comes with it counts as $20 dollars of it, and it actually surprisingly works! I started playing the game in late june or early july this year and I learned pretty quickly, to the point where I am now thinking about combining lessons and the game together to speed up the learning process even faster. Now it wont turn you into Guns N Roses overnight, but its pretty effective.TheVanillaMiner
