This is a good book with a lot of information, but be advised: The author throws a lot of stuff at you right at the beginning. The novice guitar student or average, not super gifted person like me, will have to be very diligent to use this instruction. You will likely have to divide even the very first task the author gives into several parts yourself. It can take a while to learn 20 new chords!johnflaquito

This book 1 of Mickey Bakers Classic Jazz Course was all that was available when I was a kid and started out. This book as an introductory hands on Jazz course does the job of self tutoring extremely well in voicings that will always work and not require to many voice leading considerations. In fact it does it so well its obvious to my eye and ear Joe Pass used this book. If you have a natural ability and start out with then add to the foundation it forms quite well you will do well no doubt. Its a course designed to get you up and running with solid basics very quickly and does it superlatively. In this modern era there are now far better tutors but none that will have you musical able in basically competent way (at least as far as comping is concerned) as quickly. Mickeys course a Jazz classic, and the small problems that arose with my specific order Booktopia bent over backwards to correct and guarantee satisfaction.Steve

16. Jazz Soloing Basics For Guitar: A Step-By-Step Method For Learning Jazz Phrasing With Chromaticism And Swing-Feel Lines [Book]
Product Details:
This book explains how you can train yourself to compose and improvise solos over standard jazz chord progressions, with a sense of movement and swing. – there will be some licks and solos to learn of course, but rather than asking you to just memorize sample solos and long licks, expecting them to soak in and come back out as fresh statements over other songs, the program shows you how to construct working lines one note at a time and very slowly at first, then apply their principles in both prepared and improvised solos as you build up the tempo with time and practice. – this means a larger investment in time and effort at the beginning but a bigger payoff in the end. the foundation you gain here prepares you to function as a professional in any style that requires improvisational soloing. – includes: handling common rhythmic feels, progressions, and turnarounds. creating extended chord structures in lines. incorporating blues over key centers. modal and chord-scale theory. correctly placing dissonant notes. beginning fretboard and music theory in appendices. 100 examples and 15 études, with tab, notation and streaming video demos accessed through code included in the book. from the author of: chord-tone soloing–also available in french, dutch, and german rhythmic lead guitar guitar fretboard workbook–also available in spanish, french, and german guitar reading workbook interval studies and lead guitar technique harmonic minor, melodic minor, and diminished scales for guitar music theory: a practical guide for all musicians
